Light Year Calculator

What is light year, how to calculate light years.

With this light year calculator, we aim to help you calculate the distance that light can travel in a certain amount of time . You can also check out our speed of light calculator to understand more about this topic.

We have written this article to help you understand what a light year is and how to calculate a light year using the light year formula . We will also demonstrate some examples to help you understand the light year calculation.

A light year is a unit of measurement used in astronomy to describe the distance that light travels in one year . Since light travels at a speed of approximately 186,282 miles per second (299,792,458 meters per second), a light year is a significant distance — about 5.88 trillion miles (9.46 trillion km) . Please check out our distance calculator to understand more about this topic.

The concept of a light year is important for understanding the distances involved in space exploration. Since the universe is so vast, it's often difficult to conceptualize the distances involved in astronomical measurements. However, by using a light year as a unit of measurement, scientists and astronomers can more easily compare distances between objects in space.

As the light year is a unit of measure for the distance light can travel in a year , this concept can help us to calculate the distance that light can travel in a certain time period. Hence, let's have a look at the following example:

  • Source: Light
  • Speed of light: 299,792,458 m/s
  • Time traveled: 2 years

You can perform the calculation in three steps:

Determine the speed of light.

The speed of light is the fastest speed in the universe, and it is always a constant in a vacuum. Hence, the speed of light is 299,792,458 m/s , which is 9.46×10¹² km/year .

Compute the time that the light has traveled.

The subsequent stage involves determining the duration of time taken by the light to travel. Since we are interested in light years, we will be measuring the time in years.

To facilitate this calculation, you may use our time lapse calculator . In this specific scenario, the light has traveled for a duration of 2 years.

Calculate the distance that the light has traveled.

The final step is to calculate the total distance that the light has traveled within the time . You can calculate this answer using the speed of light formula:

distance = speed of light × time

Thus, the distance that the light can travel in 100 seconds is 9.46×10¹² km/year × 2 years = 1.892×10¹³ km

How do I calculate the distance that light travels?

You can calculate the distance light travels in three steps:

Determine the light speed .

Determine the time the light has traveled.

Apply the light year formula :

distance = light speed × time

How far light can travel in 1 second?

The light can travel 186,282 miles, or 299,792,458 meters, in 1 second . That means light can go around the Earth just over 7 times in 1 second.

Why is the concept of a light year important in astronomy?

The concept of a light year is important in astronomy because it helps scientists and astronomers more easily compare distances between objects in space and understand the vastness of the universe .

Can light years be used to measure time?

No , despite the name, you cannot use light years to measure time. They only measure distance .

What Is a Light-Year?

For most space objects, we use light-years to describe their distance. A light-year is the distance light travels in one Earth year. One light-year is about 6 trillion miles (9 trillion km). That is a 6 with 12 zeros behind it!

Looking Back in Time

When we use powerful telescopes to look at distant objects in space, we are actually looking back in time. How can this be?

Light travels at a speed of 186,000 miles (or 300,000 km) per second. This seems really fast, but objects in space are so far away that it takes a lot of time for their light to reach us. The farther an object is, the farther in the past we see it.

Our Sun is the closest star to us. It is about 93 million miles away. So, the Sun's light takes about 8.3 minutes to reach us. This means that we always see the Sun as it was about 8.3 minutes ago.

The next closest star to us is about 4.3 light-years away. So, when we see this star today, we’re actually seeing it as it was 4.3 years ago. All of the other stars we can see with our eyes are farther, some even thousands of light-years away.

A chart explaining how far away certain objects are from Earth. The Sun is 8.3 light-minutes away. Polaris is 320 light-years away. Andromeda is 2.5 million light years away. Proxima Centauri is 4.3 light-years away. The center of the Milky Way is 26,000 light-years away. GN-z11 is 13.4 billion light-years away.

Stars are found in large groups called galaxies . A galaxy can have millions or billions of stars. The nearest large galaxy to us, Andromeda, is 2.5 million light-years away. So, we see Andromeda as it was 2.5 million years in the past. The universe is filled with billions of galaxies, all farther away than this. Some of these galaxies are much farther away.

An image of the Andromeda galaxy, which appears as a blue and white swirling mass among hundreds more galaxies in the background.

In 2016, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope looked at the farthest galaxy ever seen, called GN-z11. It is 13.4 billion light-years away, so today we can see it as it was 13.4 billion years ago. That is only 400 million years after the big bang . It is one of the first galaxies ever formed in the universe.

Learning about the very first galaxies that formed after the big bang, like this one, helps us understand what the early universe was like.

A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step

Meaning of “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.

This Chinese proverb means that a person must begin his or her journey to reach their goal or destination. It is a motivational proverb that expresses deep insight about determination and avoiding procrastination. It means a first step needs if we intend to finish a task or a thought on time . In other words, this expression tells that the great things commence with simple beginnings.

This proverb also stretches across two paradoxical phrases , ‘thousand miles’ and ‘single step’ while the emphasis is on a ‘single step.’ If an initiative is taken, the rest of the venture falls into place, and the mission starts. It also means that a voyage marked as a milestone starts with a single step. This proverb applies to a wide range of different circumstances where action needs to be taken for the completion of a task. Hence, in this saying ‘journey’ means a task/action and that it does not stay limited to traveling only. However, a step is an initiative or a starting point. A ‘thousand miles’ shows the longevity of a journey, while a ‘single step’ is an initial move. In other words, no matter how ambiguous the task is, how long the journey is or laborious the work is, a movement is always required to begin it.

Origin of “A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step”

“A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step” is a saying by an ancient Chinese philosopher. The original text is “A journey of a thousand li starts beneath one’s feet.”  Here li means distance. This quote was first used in Chinese classic text; Tao Te Ching attributed to Lao Tzu, a renowned Chinese philosopher. It was probably written between the 4 th or 6 th century.

Tzu’s powerful words have always been shadowed by renowned people. American President, John F Kennedy reintroduced this quote “A Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” in 1963 about the first nuclear test ban agreement.

Examples in Literature

The journey of a thousand miles… by Ronnie James Corbin

“I’m pretty drunk right now , But my thoughts are clear enough to say, I believe in you. I believe in your dreams . I believe you can overcome your flaws. I believe you could write the masterpiece of our generation. You could cure cancer, bring world peace, and feed the hungry. You can show love. You can breathe your positive presence into the air. I want you to go forth and shine like the beautiful star that you are. Together we can demolish our egos. Start on the path to purity. They say the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, So hold my hand, and follow me, As I take mine.”

Ronnie James Corbin is an Ohio-based American poet wrote this poem for his sweetheart requesting her to join the poet to defeat every other thing, including cancer. The use of the first person and the second person to counter it balances the poem. The poem is a marriage proposal after the presentation of both figures. It gets clear in the third last line where the long journey is a long life, while the next line shows the invitation as “hold my hand”.

There Is No Easy Way (But There Is a Way) by Willie Nelson

Now that we’re back together the battle is half won We’ll try to save a part of yesterday I know it won’t be easy but at least we have begun There is no easy way but there is a way We both could use some understanding trust would help And the journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step And is love not worth the price we’ll have to pay There is no easy way but there is a way We both could use some understanding trust would help And the journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step And is love not worth the price we’ll have to pay There is no easy way but there is a way

Willie Nelson, a songwriter and poet, wrote this song to convey his colleague and beloved that they could start the relationship again as there is always a way even if nothing is easy. For this purpose, he has used this proverb as a repetition as well as a refrain in the last two lines of both stanzas .

Journey of a Thousand Miles My Story By Lang Lang and David Ritz

This is an autobiography of a Chinese pianist Lang Lang. He co-wrote the book with David Ritz to underline his hard struggle when moving from a western Chinese city to Beijing. It is not just the story of a pianist prodigy, but a family saga. The writer includes his whole family, who supported Lang Lang until his stardom. His father’s tireless struggle to make his song a star goes a long way. Therefore, the title of the biography shows the courage and sacrifice that a father has demonstrated to make his son a star.

Examples in Sentences as Literary Devices

Example #1: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and is finally covered after a time.” Here the proverb shows the journey that is covered only when a step is taken.

Example #2: “ He is an epitome of a journey of a thousand miles beings with a single step as he always takes a small step to do everything and completes it on time.” Here the proverb has been used as a metaphor as it shows the person as the model.

Example #3: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step is like a task that has many parts, and if a small part is done, it means the big task will be done too.” The proverb has been used as a simile as the use of “like” shows.

Example #4: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step forward or ends with a single step back.” This proverb also shows the use of a paradox a journey is of thousand miles, but it starts with a single step.

Example #5: “ A journey as long as a thousand mile begins with a single step” shows its use as a simile as it compares the longevity of a journey with a thousand miles. However, the proverb has been twisted a bit with the words “as long as”.

Journey Of 1000 Years by Kiss

a journey of 1000 light years

Songfacts®:

  • Gene Simmons wrote this song from the viewpoint of God speaking to one who has just died and is moving through the tunnel of light, to the door of heaven, through that spiritual door to enter the Great Beyond. Consider the following lyrics: "I know just where you come from" - God knows everything about us. "All your yesterdays are gone" - Death "But you've only just begun" - Another life awaits us after death on Earth "It's time you opened up the door" - Moving from death to re-birth. "And now it's all very clear... this journey of 1,000 years" - The meaning of life and the purpose of the universe finally becomes clear. "Can you feel it coming, can you feel the sound, can you feel it coming, can you hear it" - Moving toward heaven. "Or is it the roar of the crowd?" - Can you accept this, or is there an Earthly explanation? "Did you sleep without dreams, did you fly without wings, did you touch without feel, where nothing is real?" - Did you live life to its fullest? >> Suggestion credit : jack - athens, Greece

  • Brian from Chicago Area, Il "Did you sleep without dreams, did you fly without wings, did you touch without feel, where nothing is real?" These are variations of lyrics from the song "Within" on the Psycho Circus album, intended to wrap the concept of life (the "Psycho Circus") around the beginning and end of the album. Also, a musical theme found just before the guitar solo in the song "Psycho Circus" is repeated in this song by a strings section before thefade out, another indication of beginning/ending, a kind of loose concept found on the Psycho Circus album.

Journey through darkness leads to light, thanks to Mental Health Ministry

a journey of 1000 light years

“I called them at one of my darkest times,” Robert Salas admitted.

Devastated by the shattering of a 17-year marriage and consumed by guilt and anxiety, Salas turned to the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix.

“I didn’t know where else to go. Trying to talk to family members — they did not want to hear what I needed to say.”

When Salas reached out to the diocese, his call was routed to Maricela Campa, manager of the Mental Health Ministry.

“She’s an awesome person. She’s the type of person who listens. She gave me good, concrete advice,” Salas said.

His history of trauma as well as a previous suicide attempt meant that the call was critical. Campa is well aware that answering calls such as Salas’ saves lives. She blinks back tears as she recalls the times callers have thanked her just for answering the phone in their darkest hour.

“That has been so meaningful to me and what the heart of the ministry is all about which is to be there and meet people where they are at,” Campa said.

Establishing a mental health ministry at a diocesan level was one of the top priorities of Bishop John P. Dolan when he was installed as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix in August of 2022. Bishop Dolan has lost three siblings and a brother-in-law to suicide, so he knows the heartbreaking trials of those who struggle with mental health issues.

Ten years ago, in the throes of depression, Salas took a handful of sleeping pills. Police were called to the scene, and he was hospitalized. “They had me on suicide watch,” Salas said. Reflecting on his brush with death, he recalled that his life was also spared at age 10 after a harrowing near-drowning in a river. He still has flashbacks.

“I remember going under, coming up and going back under. I must have gone at least 50 yards downriver. I was down at the bottom and could see the trees glistening over the water.”

Salas never received counseling for the incident, nor for the time he witnessed gang violence and dashed across the street to hold the victim of the attack in his arms as he died. Salas was just 15 years old when his own father died.

His Catholic faith, however, was ever an anchor.

Growing up in California, Salas has fond recollections of grandparents who were deeply Catholic and schooled him in the practice of the faith. He remembers kneeling with his siblings as they prayed the rosary in Spanish as their grandparents led them.

Mounting troubles

Seventeen years ago, Salas and his wife were married civilly but he wanted his marriage to be valid in the Catholic Church. The couple eventually celebrated the sacrament of matrimony at Holy Cross Parish in Mesa. For a while, the relationship seemed to prosper.

But there were ominous cracks.

On her side, there was a history of drug abuse and having experienced domestic violence in a previous marriage, troubles continued to simmer.

“Many people would say, ‘Bob, why are you in this relationship?’ I told them, ‘Because I love her. You don’t just leave a relationship. You try to work it out.’”

Last fall, everything came to a head when Salas’ adult son was battling an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Salas’ marriage was crumbling, and the added stress of his son’s serious illness didn’t help. “I told her (his wife) I needed to be with my son, that he might die.”

Salas eventually moved out to live with his son battling cancer. Years of turmoil and bitter arguments had taken their toll on his marriage.

On his way home from church one day, he started having thoughts of suicide again.

“It was depression. It was anxiety, guilt. Why did I leave her the way I did?” Salas said.

In 2021, the latest year for which the CDC provides data, 1,475 people in Arizona died by suicide, the 10th leading cause of death in the state. Salas might have added to that statistic in 2023 if not for the call he made that fateful day last fall.

When Salas spoke with Campa of the Mental Health Ministry, he found the support he needed at a critical time. The ministry is focused on education, accompaniment, and advocacy, providing resources in a Catholic and meaningful way.

Resources and information are listed on the ministry’s homepage on the Diocese of Phoenix website. The first words visitors to the page encounter are soothingly reassuring: “You are not alone,” the page declares.

And that’s exactly what Salas discovered. The phone call he made brought light out of darkness. “There was hope,” Salas said. “There’s people out there that are going to listen to your story. There’s people out there that can relate to what you’re going through because maybe one time they went through it, and they gave me hope.”

Although he’s still hurting, Salas said he’s slowly getting better. He continues to be very involved in his parish and the Knights of Columbus, serving food to the hungry at Paz de Cristo, praying in the adoration chapel before the Blessed Sacrament, and saying the rosary daily. Now, he consoles others who are reeling from broken lives.

His barber, he said, is going through a nasty divorce. “Every time I go to the shop, he’ll tell me about the breakup with his wife. He’s almost in tears and I embrace him. I tell him, “Hang in there. Things are going to get better.’” Salas has given him a rosary.

“The Blessed Mother is the one that embraces me now,” he said. “She’s my lady. And with her love, her intercessional prayers, and her beautiful face, I can make it.”

Golisano Children's Hospital gains autism certification for improving compassion and care

a journey of 1000 light years

Staff at Golisano Children’s Hospital are getting trained to minimize distress that children on the autism spectrum disorder may experience during a hospital visit.

And it’s not just hands-on medical staff who are getting the training, every employee is going through it, according to Alyssa Bostwick, chief nurse and operations executive of the 135-bed children’s hospital in south Fort Myers.

It is the first hospital in the state to gain autism certification from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards, and it may be unique in the hospital industry to have all its employees getting trained, Bostwick said.

“Golisano is light years ahead,” said Beth Fugere, who chairs the parents and family advisory council at the children’s hospital. “This is going to completely change how medical services will be provided at every level. It will transform how we look at inclusion.”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates one in 36 children are on the autism spectrum, based on 2020 data. Two years earlier the CDC reported the rate was 1 in 45 children.

It is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the country and the increase may also be tied to improved screening and diagnosis, according to the Autism Society of Florida.

Celebration of certification

Officials at Golisano and Lee Health, the public hospital system in Lee County which runs Golisano, celebrated the milestone Friday.

They also welcomed a “sensory-friendly ambulance” for transporting children with autism that has unique features to minimize sounds, lights and other things that can trigger a sensory overload for children with autism, said Niki Shimko, transport team manager at Golisano.

How did Golisano go down this road?

Golisano recognized that staff members could do better in addressing the unique needs of children on the autism spectrum and set out to do so, Bostwick said.

Professional training of medical personnel on autism has not kept up with prevalence of the disorder, she said.

Staff reached out to the international board of credentialing, which offers the training. It included having officials with the international board come on site to do a physical assessment and offer recommendations on how to be more sensitive to this population.

“It has been a year or more in the planning,” Bostwick said.

More: Photos: Naples mother, daughter embrace daily life with autism

More than 85% of hospital employees have completed the training. All told, the children’s hospital has roughly 1,000 employees.

Golisano is about seventh or eighth among U.S. hospitals that are autism certified where the other hospitals have a portion of the medical staff trained, which includes passing a test, she said.

How many kids with autism does Golisano see?

She estimates Golisano sees 10 to 15 children a day with autism; that’s based on an estimate of 170 kids coming each day which includes the emergency room and to other departments.

Fugere, who has two special needs children, said there are 100,000 children in the Lee County school system, so a sizable number are on the autism spectrum. There are others who have a cognitive issues that may not be so recognizable.

She applauds what Golisano has done with the training and with physical changes to reduce sensory overstimulation of children, to tone down lighting, noise reduction measures and to address other over-stimulating conditions.

Officials with the international board offered the recommendations when they did an assessment that started at the front door.

“They looked at it from the (patient) point of view,” she said.

Another bonus is that a resource page is being added to the Golisano website for staff members and families to turn to for help.

“I think this community was begging for resources for its growing needs of this population,” Fugere said.

What are some main things learned?

A key takeaway from the training is that no two children are alike. Also, it is critical to recognize that the parent, guardian or caretaker knows the child best for behavior, sensory tolerance and what can trigger distress, Bostwick said.

For both those reasons, its critical to include the parent in the care plan, she said.

The goal is to make the child’s experience in the hospital as pleasant an experience as possible.

What’s a sensory-friendly ambulance?

Golisano has four ambulances and one was in the process of getting upgraded, and the idea came up to make it sensitive to children with autism.

Staff worked with its ambulance company and the international board after learning there were no standards to diminish over stimulation from sounds, sight and touch sensitivity,  Shimko said.

It will be helpful for the medical team in the hospital to start caring for a child immediately upon arrival rather than having to wait for a sensory overload episode to end because of the strange surrounding during the transport, she said.

Ambulances normally have a noisy generator for backup but that has been changed out for a less noisy power back-up system, the vehicle has a special coating to minimize the siren noise, and the lighting inside is dimmed, Shimko said.

There are “bubble tubes” with bubbles inside, fidget pop it toys to manage anxiety and stickers that can be rubbed to distract kids attention from the setting.

“We have really taken all of the stressors for kids on the autism spectrum disorder and looked at how we can dissolve some of the over stimulation,” she said. “It’s a big leap in the impact it will have and not just special needs children. It will be for every child we transport.”

The cost of doing the sensory-friendly elements on the ambulance was about $40,000.

Stowaway Cat Gets From Utah to California in Amazon Returns Package

Galena, a 6-year-old shorthair, was found in an Amazon warehouse a week after she climbed into a 3-by-3-foot cardboard box at her owner’s home.

A cat with a dark body and a white underbelly stands on all fours.

By Yan Zhuang

When Carrie Clark got a phone call on April 17 from a veterinarian in California informing her that her cat, which had vanished from her Utah home a week earlier, had been found some 500 miles away, her first reaction was disbelief.

“I could not believe that it was true,” Ms. Clark said in an interview on Sunday night. “I told her: I think this is a prank.”

It wasn’t. Galena, her 6-year-old American shorthair, had sneaked inside a 3-by-3-foot cardboard Amazon returns package alongside five pairs of steel-toed boots. Then the cat was transported two states away to one of the company’s warehouses, where it was discovered by Amazon employees.

Galena survived the unexpected journey without any food or water, Ms. Clark said.

Despite her ordeal, Galena was in relatively good health with no issues apart from mild dehydration, Ms. Clark said. Two factors had helped: One seam on the box had come unglued, allowing oxygen to circulate, and mild weather kept Galena from overheating or freezing.

“It’s really a miracle that she was able to survive,” Ms. Clark said.

Ms. Clark said she thought that Galena got into the box while her husband was packing it, by jumping inside when he left to fetch some tape to seal it up.

“She doesn’t meow a lot and she loves boxes, so for her, she was really happy in that moment, I’m sure,” Ms. Clark said. “Although I’m sure that wasn’t the case later on.”

Since the box already weighed over 30 pounds, Ms. Clark and her husband, who live in the city of Lehi, near Salt Lake City, did not notice the added weight of a stowaway when they mailed it on April 10, she said.

But they did quickly notice that their shy, indoor cat was missing that same day. After days of searching the house and the neighborhood turned up nothing, worst-case scenarios started running through her mind, Ms Clark said. Had Galena darted outside without anyone noticing? Had she been snatched up by a predator? Or end up in the river behind the house?

“We had absolutely no idea what had happened,” Ms. Clark said. “It was really challenging; I was definitely in a lot of grief.”

Then she received the call from a veterinarian in Riverside, Calif. An Amazon employee, Brandy Hunter, had brought Galena in, and the veterinarian identified her through her microchip and contacted Ms. Clark.

Ms. Hunter, who could not immediately be reached for comment, said on Facebook that she received a call from co-workers who had opened a returns box and found a cat inside.

“We have gotten some pretty crazy things in my time but never anything like this!” Ms. Hunter wrote. She said she had driven to the warehouse to catch and look after the cat, which she said had spent days in the box “in the back of a trailer full of items being returned to Amazon.”

Amazon did not immediately respond to requests for comment. After products are dropped off at an Amazon returns center, they are inspected for damage and signs of use to determine if they can be re-listed for sale, according to the company.

When Ms. Clark got the call, she and her husband quickly booked a flight to California. The next day they arrived at the veterinarian’s clinic, where they were reunited with Galena.

“When I got to hold her again, she stopped shaking and knew that I was there for her,” Ms. Clark said. “It was such a miraculous moment.”

10 Best Anime Series Every Fan of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Needs to Watch

  • There are plenty of anime that are great for fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End .
  • Some anime are great for offering similar takes on adventuring through fantasy worlds as Frieren does.
  • Others are great for the overlap they have with Frieren 's writing style and overall themes.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is easily one of the biggest anime of the past few years. Not only does it have gorgeous art, animation, and overall direction, but its straightforward take on the fantasy genre, combined with intelligent and emotionally resonant writing, made it a major hit among fans and critics alike to a degree that very few anime have ever managed to achieve.

The first season of Frieren received unanimous praise from fans and critics alike. It’s currently unknown when Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will return for a second season, if at all, but fortunately, there are plenty of anime that fans of the series can watch.

As unique a series as it may be, there are plenty of great anime that overlap with Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End in terms of themes, characters, and overall quality ; a few anime, in particular, are especially worth highlighting, and any fan of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is sure to get a lot out of them, even if it’s not the same experience.

10 Best Fantasy Anime Every Lord of the Rings Fan Needs to Watch

Wandering witch captures the same pure essence of traveling as frieren, anime series by c2c; based on the light novel by jogi shiraishi.

C2C’s Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina stars Elaina the Ashen Witch, a young witch who travels the world in the hopes of living a life of adventure like her idol, the great witch Niké. Elaina takes it upon herself to not interfere in anything she witnesses on her travels, no matter how terrible something may be, but there are occasions where, at the very least, Elaina’s passivity does deeply affect her and force her to question her resolve.

Wandering Witch isn’t that well-known of an anime, but it’s still a great recommendation for fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End . Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina is, like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End , a thoughtful story of a magical being traveling across the world , but Elaina is a far more selfish person than Frieren, so it creates a different sort of traveling story, especially when her selfishness ends up hurting herself and others. Overall, Wandering Witch has the same sort of aesthetic as Frieren , but adds a unique-enough flavor to create a different experience, so it’s plenty worth checking out.

Kinos Journey Highlights The Beauty & Danger Of The World, Just Like Frieren

Anime series by acgt; based on the light novel by keiichi sigsawa.

ACGT’s Kino’s Journey—the Beautiful World— is about Kino, a young girl traveling the world with no one by her side except her talking motorcycle, Hermes. Kino makes it a rule not to stay in one place longer than three days in two nights to keep herself from getting too attached, and with how dangerous some of the places she visits can be, she always makes sure to keep a variety of weapons with her, most notably her .44 single-action revolver the “Cannon” and her .22 automatic pistol the “Woodsman”.

Similar to Wander Witch: The Journey of Elaina , Kino’s Journey—the Beautiful World— is great for anyone who was a fan of the adventuring aspect of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End . Not only do both stories have characters going on episodic adventures around the world, but the dark and fantastical nature of the places in Kino’s Journey—the Beautiful World— always adds something new to each story , whether it’s purely in aesthetic or in the themes the audience is expected to contemplate. Adventure is always used for thought-provoking storytelling, so that makes it perfect for fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End .

Mushishi Is Another Great Anime About Supernatural Good Samaritans

Anime series by artland; based on the manga by yuki urushibara.

Artland’s Mushishi is an episodic anime set vaguely in 19th-century Japan where people are constantly plagued by ethereal beings called Mushi. As one of the few people who can see Mushi, series protagonist Ginko has taken it upon himself to research Mushi and aid those who suffer because of them whenever he comes across them in his travels.

From start to finish, Mushishi is an anime that does a great job of playing into the same core aesthetic of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End . The element of traveling through a supernatural setting is one thing, but Mushishi being an episodic story of a supernatural good samaritan has a clear overlap with Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End , although Mushishi is the far more episodic story of the two. Nevertheless, both anime excellently play into the idea of good people just trying to help others, so any fan of one is sure to get a lot out of the other.

To Your Eternity Is Another Great Story About The Struggles Of Immortality

Anime series by drive; based on the manga by yoshitoki oima.

Drive’s To Your Eternity opens with a mysterious being called the Beholder releasing an orb into the world that takes on the form of anything that dies around it. The orb eventually becomes an immortal being named Fushi, and through his travels, he constantly befriends new people he’s always fated to outlive and must slowly come to understand why living that sort of life is so tragic.

Unlike some other anime, To Your Eternity ’s overlap with Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is through one of the more tragic elements of its story. Both To Your Eternity and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End revolve around nigh-immortal beings dealing with the reality of outliving the people closest to them , and sure enough, both anime use it to tell tragic and bittersweet stories from start to finish. The emotional beats of Frieren ’s writing have always been one of its biggest draws, and anyone who’s a fan of that is sure to be a fan of To Your Eternity .

Bocchi The Rock! Is Another Gorgeous Anime From Frierens Director

Anime series by cloverworks; based on the manga by aki hamazi.

CloverWorks’ Bocchi the Rock! stars Hitori Gotoh, a girl with crippling social anxiety who learned to play guitar in the hopes of using it to make friends, although her efforts never once managed to bear fruit. One day, however, Hitori is recruited to be the new guitarist in the band Kessoku Band, and as Hitori - now with the nickname Bocchi - commits herself to the band, she’ll find herself slowly but surely gaining the exact life she hoped for when she first started learning the guitar.

Bocchi the Rock! is a completely different story from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End , but that doesn’t mean fans of the latter shouldn’t watch it. Both anime were directed by anime director Keiichiro Saito, and sure enough, both Bocchi the Rock! and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End feature some of the best animation and overall direction of any anime that’s come out within the past few years. Keiichiro Saito is one of the best directors to come out of anime in the past few years, and if anyone wants to see what else he’s capable of, there’s no better anime to watch than Bocchi the Rock!

Spice And Wolf Excellently Makes The Mundane Entertaining

Anime series by brain's base & passione; based on the light novel by isuna hasekura, spice and wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf (2024).

Cast Jun Fukuyama, Ami Koshimizu

Release Date April 2, 2024

Genres Drama, Adventure, Anime

Main Genre Anime

Rating TV-14

Spice and Wolf is a low-fantasy anime about a traveling merchant named Kraft Lawrence who, one day, comes across a woman with wolf ears and a tail sleeping in his cart. The woman introduces herself as a harvest goddess named Holo, and after Lawrence helps Holo leave the confines of the village where they met, the two embark on a journey to bring Holo back to her birthplace while doing merchant work whenever and wherever it might come up.

Spice and Wolf is a very different sort of fantasy series from Frieren , but their similarities become readily apparent in their writing. In addition to characters having dry wit and largely unexaggerated dialogue, Spice and Wolf , much like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End , is much more focused on the minute details of worldbuilding than it is on the action , specifically the inner workings of economics and trading, and the execution always keeps it from being boring. It's a perfect anime for fans of Frieren , and with the Spice and Wolf reboot , now's the perfect time for someone to start watching.

Franchise(s) Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

Writers Hiroyuki Yoshino

Directors Naotaka Hayashi, Koji Masunari

Main Genre Fantasy

Creator(s) Shinobu Ohtaka

A-1 Pictures’ Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic depicts an Arabian Nights -style fantasy world where people can challenge mysterious dungeons for untold wealth and power that can change the world. Among the people who have a go at this are the young pair of Aladdin and Alibaba, and while the two of them originally just wanted to go on an adventure, they soon find themselves wrapped up in one major conspiracy after another that are all poised to upend everything they know about their world.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic ’s flavor of fantasy is very different from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End , but fans of Frieren can still get a lot out of it. Much like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End , Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic has incredibly intricate worldbuilding through its political elements and its highly-developed magic system , two things that are essential parts of Frieren ’s writing. It’s more lighthearted than some of its contemporaries, but with that sort of writing, it’s a perfect recommendation for fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End .

Violet Evergarden Is A Beautiful Exploration Into Humanity

Anime series by kyoto animation; based on the light novel by kana akatsuki, violet evergarden.

Cast Ben Pronsky, Christine Marie Cabanos, Tony Azzolino, Kyle McCarley, Reba Buhr, Erika Harlacher

Release Date January 11, 2018

Genres Drama

Streaming Service(s) Netflix

Franchise(s) Violet Evergarden

Writers Taaki Suzuki, Tatsuhiko Urahata, Reiko Yoshida

Directors Taichi Ishidate, Haruka Fujita

Main Genre Animation

Creator(s) Kana Akatsuki

The titular hero of Kyoto Animation’s Violet Evergarden is a former orphan turned soldier who spent her entire life fighting in a war that’s only now come to an end. Now needing a new purpose in life, Violet takes up a job as a special type of ghostwriter called an Auto Memory Doll in the hopes that writing for others will help better understand people, and she especially hopes it will help her understand why her commanding officer told her he loved her before he died.

Kyoto Animation is famous for its emotionally driven anime, and Violet Evergarden is easily one of its best. From start to finish, Violet Evergarden does an excellent job of depicting its hero’s struggles with learning what it means to be human in an emotionally poignant fashion , something that, of course, is at the core of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End ’s overarching narrative. Add in the consistently gorgeous visuals and overall direction, and Violet Evergarden hits nearly all the same aesthetics that made Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End such a hit.

Delicious In Dungeon Is The Perfect Fantasy To Complement Frieren

Anime series by studio trigger; based on the manga by ryoko kui, delicious in dungeon.

Cast Asuna Tomari, Hiroshi Naka, Kentarou Kumagai, Sayaka Senbongi

Release Date January 1, 2024

Genres Cooking, Comedy, Fantasy

Franchise(s) Delicious in Dungeon

Writers Kimiko Ueno, Ryoko Kui

Directors Yoshihiro Miyajima

In Studio Trigger’s hit fantasy anime Delicious in Dungeon , the adventure party of series protagonist Laios is wiped out by a dragon, with Laios’ sister, Falin, even being eaten alive. Laios and what remains of his party need to hurry back through the dungeon to revive Falin, but they lack the funds for the journey and have no time to gather them up. To deal with the situation, Laios convinces everyone, much to their disgust, to eat the monsters they encounter in the dungeon, something Laios is all but stated to have just been looking for an excuse to do.

Delicious in Dungeon is great for fans of Frieren thanks to largely being its opposite. While they’re both largely straightforward fantasy anime, Delicious in Dungeon , while not wholly unserious, has a far more comedic approach to fantasy than Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End , so the two can be seen as two sides of the same coin and of equal value to anime fans looking for something different from isekai and power fantasy anime. Add in its own uniquely great writing and animation, and Delicious in Dungeon makes for as great a watch as Frieren for a lot of the same reasons.

Fullmetal Alchemist & Frieren Are Both Excellent Gateways Into Anime

Anime series by studio bones; based on the manga by hiromu arakawa, fullmetal alchemist.

Created by Hiromu Arakawa

TV Show(s) Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Character(s) Greed (Fullmetal Alchemist), Envy (Fullmetal Alchemist), Lust (Fullmetal Alchemist), King Bradley, May Chang, Lan Fan, Ling Yao, Scar (Fullmetal Alchemist), Riza Hawkeye, Maes Hughes, Winry Rockbell, Roy Mustang, Alphonse Elric, Edward Elric

Studio Bones’ Fullmetal Alchemist is set in a world where alchemy is very much real, and in the nation of Amestris, alchemists can join the military in exchange for near-limitless authority. One of these state alchemists is Edward Elric, the titular Fullmetal Alchemist, and after an accident with alchemy costs Edward his limbs and forces the soul of his brother Alphonse to be bound to a suit of armor, Edward starts looking for the mythical Philosopher’s Stone in the hopes of restoring their bodies, completely unaware of the forces his journey will bring him into contact with.

10 Best Anime So Good They'll Turn Even the Most Skeptical Viewers Into Fans

Notably, Fullmetal Alchemist was replaced by Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End in many anime rankings' top spot, despite being completely different in both genre and story. Thanks to its stellar art and animation and a story that’s both entertaining and not too overly complex, Fullmetal Alchemist , like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End , is one of the best anime for getting people invested in anime , something that hasn’t changed in the slightest after over a decade. There’s a definite overlap between the two in that regard, and that’s why Fullmetal Alchemist is probably the best anime for fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End .

Wind Sailor

Introduction [ ]

Wind Sailor is an Achievement in Run 3 .

ChildFront

Gameplay [ ]

Four characters can earn this achievement: the Child and the Student can earn it on part 11 of the Box Storage Area , the Gentleman can earn it in Infinite Mode , the Runner as well as the Duplicator can earn it with luck.

If you are using the Child, start on Box Storage Area , part 10, and at the start of the level transition between parts 10 and 11, jump (or you can jump from one of the boxes). You will notice that the level keeps getting bigger at about the same rate as the Child is falling, meaning he can keep aloft until the level stops getting bigger. Just be sure to land somewhere, or the achievement won't count. Alternatively, at the beginning of Box Storage Area part 11 , fall into the gap between the two boxes in front of the Child at the beginning of the level and move left or right to catch onto the side of either of the boxes. The Child will be standing on a box halfway up the wall of the tunnel, and then it is a simple matter of floating down onto a surface, as the height will be sufficient enough to keep the Child airborne for ten seconds.

If you are using the Gentleman, try to enable your electromagnet when you're underneath a power cell, and use the power cells as a "bridge" to stay aloft for 10 seconds. A tip is that when you are going towards a power cell, you can release the electromagnet, then engage it again when you are below the power cell to get a lot of height out of nowhere. This takes practice to pull off consistently but is actually very easy with some practice.

If you are the Student, do the same as the Child, but when you are about to hit the ground, hold jump, and you should float to the other side of the level. You can only do this starting on Box Storage Area, part 11, by falling onto the side of a box. Doing the trick at the end of Box Storage Area, part 10 will not work.

You can also spam the jump button with the Duplicator , and hope that you get lucky and stay up for a sufficient amount of time. You need to spam at very high speeds(about 13-15 cps) in order to ensure you don't miss a jump.

You can get it with the Bunny if you are lucky enough. The Bunny earns this achievement by bouncing fast. Don't jump too much and you might earn the achievement.

It is possible to earn this achievement with the Runner in Box Storage Area part 11 by utilizing a glitch in which you go change gravity in one of the boxes at the beginning of the level, jump as high as you can, land in a gap formed by more boxes, and "float" outside of the level. Once you are outside, you will see a hole located behind the series of boxes. Normally, this hole (four of them can be found) will be located at the "bottom" of the level. You then direct the Runner to the hole, hitting the side of the thin platform surrounding it, causing the Runner to spin uncontrollably, getting the achievement. Getting this achievement through this way is not 100% guaranteed (thus not recommended) and has only been proven to work so far on the Beta version of Run 3 , (e.g. Player03's Website), as there are slightly different physics and more bugs in that version.
