We have just returned from ten fabulous days in Israel, thanks to your organization. I particularly want to acknowledge three of you. First off, Pam Pearlmutter, our trip planner, was incredible in creating a memorable tour that included all of the important, and even some of the lesser-but-no-less interesting, sites. What I truly appreciated was the ease in dealing with her, her availability and ability to change her initial plans to suit and accommodate our wishes, and the diversity of the sites on the trip that pleased ALL of us: we were seven traveling on a private tour. Pam has been to Israel many times and knew about places and opportunities that we would never have been aware of, were it not for her! THANKS, Pam! Second, in addition to the incredible sites, the trip came to life because of our tour guide--DAVID LESHNICK, an American-born Israeli citizen/educator/administrator and fundraiser, now incredible tour guide, whose wealth of knowledge and ability to impart it to ALL of us (ages 6 to umpteen!) was a feat in itself. Warm, inspiring, a teacher/story-teller/passionate Israeli enthusiast, with a ready smile, an even disposition--even when our youngest members were tired and trying at the beginning and end of some days, with a sweet sense of humor, and an obvious desire to make us love his adopted country the way he does. The breadth of his knowledge and the way he conveyed so many different aspects of past, way past, and present history, his broad information about all of the places we visited, and his welcome desire to take us all by the hand and show us his country in a realistic and loving way--with all of its problems and all of its triumphs. "Awesome" was the way our ten-year-old described him. Our six-year-old learned SO much from him, obviously enjoyed his sense of humor, and at the end of the trip drew a fairly accurate map of all of the places we had been, naming them and placing them where they belonged on the map: the Red Sea, the Dead Sea, the Mediterranean, the countries surrounding Israel, and so on. We were all impressed by how much HE got out of the trip. And on the day when the 10 and 13 year old were having a somber but memorable experience at Yad Vashem, he and I were dropped off and later picked up at the Jerusalem Zoo where we had a terrific time! From the moment we met up with David--and our driver ASAF COHEN (who was also so accommodating and friendly and helpful)--we felt comfortable and so well taken care of. David also suggested some alternative and additional places to visit that were not included on our initial plans, and we loved every place he took us to. I cannot say enough good things about our guide and driver. They were perfect! Lastly, I want to thank Ayelet Tours for making the trip so easy and enjoyable. Your organization arranged for us to be met at the airport by one of your representatives who led us in the large, complex airport to our nearby private bus that took us where we had to go. The same occurred as we exited the country--led by one of your representatives who made our leaving Israel easy and effortless! And when we wanted to make additional/alternative plans to what was on our itinerary, our guide called your office, and it was done! We thank you for all you did to make our trip the BEST EVER! As for our favorite experiences, hard to say. We truly enjoyed it all! Memorable, all of it! THANK YOU.

In 2020, my trip with this company was cancelled due to Covid. Owner would not make a full refund even though it violated their published policy. Was willing to try to go again this year. Owner prohibited me from going unless I took down the post. Told her I would take down post if I went on trip and enjoyed it. Owner declined and now I am not going with my Temple. This business owner has no integrity. Would not recommend.

Hi Amy - We would welcome you on the tour, as noted when we spoke. We asked that you temporarily remove your 1-star review until after the tour and then, once you had travelled, post whatever you wanted to say with no caveats or restrictions. You insisted you wanted the post to remain, which is of course your right. We look forward to creating another unforgettable journey for the Temple where you are a member. We are disappointed you chose not to join them to experience that for yourself. Shalom, Ayelet Tours

I booked a tour as part of a group. I signed on early and used Ayelet to book my business class airfare as well. They did not purchase the travel insurance that was requested. As a result of the pandemic, the trip was cancelled. They did not refund our full deposit. They created their own refund policy that was never agreed to when the trip was booked. I would not recommend them.

If you're looking for a company that will cater to your concerns, interests and needs, you can forget about getting support and assistance from this business. They don't comprehend that; they become defensive. I thought I found another tour group, outside of the others I've traveled with, that included trips for singles over 40. It seemed so. This one specifies a particular faith as well, which would have meshed with me. Though since airfare wasn't included, I had interest in setting up flights to connect with others from my area, I also preferred a reasonable flight rate, I inquired about the numbers of women to men going, I asked about discounts, I needed details on the trip insurance ! All these questions should have been expected & explained, without hesitation or delay. It was an International tour, not a local one by far. However, when I made an effort to get assistance on the varied matters, I was told I shouldn't go on their trip! Just imagine how that felt. Because they were irresponsible, I got booted. I received opposite the response I expected or deserved. I had been ultra motivated to travel. Though being meticulously curious with Ayelet Travel, especially the Best Day Adventures Tour to Tuscany and the Countryside, was my only downfall.

Israel!!! Our group of 37, ages 10-80 was over the moon satisfied with Ayelet, our guide Roni, and driver, Menachim. They nimbly handled all the BIG items tour, and found gems of other sites and experiences. The bus rides were filled with historical, geographical and geological details, and the land sites equally outstanding using their own audio devices. The specialty hired guides with Jeep riding up Golan, the ANU museum, street tours in Haifa and Tel Aviv , excavating in Beit Guvrin, added fantastic moments in their area of expertise. Don't think twice about booking with Ayelet; they are professionals. The all inclusive pricing was a terrific value for 10 packed days. June 2022

Thanks Helene for your beautiful and kind words! We are so proud to create connections through travel and look forward to welcoming you back to Israel or elsewhere in the future! Shalom.

We've used Ayelet for Hadassah travel to Israel. Sefie and other staff have been excellent and worthy of 5 stars. However, during the Pandemic, Ayelet has offered virtual travel and Israel related programs. One program featured Professor Stephen Berk from Union College for a series. I was disappointed with Prof. Berk's virtual lectures. He is very knowledgeable but also bombastic. So full of himself, it's a wonder he doesn't burst. He used his platform to gratuitously attack a pro-Israel group with whom he disagrees. This is not the time for discord among those who support Israel, nor is Ayelet's virtual classes the proper forum for Berk's personal political expression. It reflects poorly on the sponsor.

Thanks Bruce - I appreciate you noting our Israel tours and staff are 5 star worthy (I agree!). Hope all is well. Shalom!

I recently went on a tour of Acadia National Park with Best Day Adventures and had a great time. Everything was well organized. It was a relatively short trip which is what I needed to start traveling again after 2 years. Bill is a terrific tour leader. Changes had to be made due to Covid restrictions but everything was taken care of and it never felt like we were missing out on anything. I look forward to traveling with them in the future.

Thanks Laura - so glad you enjoyed the trip. Hope to see you traveling with us again soon Shalom!

Although I haven't talked with this organization, I am really impressed with their support of the Zoom-based courses held by Portland State University. OK, so they cant run tours during the pandemic; they are not just sitting on their hands and I really appreciate it. Thank you Ayelet.

Thanks for your kind words - we continue to work towards innovating ways to keep people connected, both through real world travel and virtual programs. Shalom!

Excellent tour of the Pacific Northwest. It was my first tour with Ayelet and although I felt like the new kid on the block, it was well organized and fun. Karen was a great tour guide and handled some difficult circumstances easily and with good humor.

Thanks Ronnie! As you had the chance to see, we work hard to create travel programs filled with opportunities for memories to last a lifetime - so glad you enjoyed the Pac NW trip! Shalom, Ayelet Tours

Israeli Strike on Lebanon Kills at Least 10

The strike came as tensions between the two countries were running high over the Gaza war. Negotiators are pushing for a truce in Gaza, hoping to avert a wider regional conflagration.

The rubble of a factory destroyed in an Israeli airstrike, seen through a window.

By Maria Abi-Habib Euan Ward and Aaron Boxerman

Maria Abi-Habib reported from Toul, Lebanon, Euan Ward from Beirut, Lebanon, and Aaron Boxerman from Jerusalem.

An Israeli airstrike hit a factory in a small town in southern Lebanon, killing at least 10 civilians, Lebanese officials said on Saturday, as people across the Middle East uneasily awaited reprisals against Israel by Iran and its allies for a pair of assassinations.

Israel’s military said it had targeted a weapons warehouse used by Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group, in the strike overnight on Friday. But the mayor of the town of Toul, where the attack took place, disputed that account.

The strike appeared to have destroyed the factory and an adjacent structure that were inhabited by Syrian refugees who worked there, as well as their families. Reporters who visited the site saw steel beams but no signs of weaponry.

The mayor of Toul, Saeed Mahmoud, said in a phone interview that the factory was used to collect steel spare parts.

The death toll was one of the largest so far in Lebanon amid the near-daily exchange of border attacks with Israel in the 10 months since the war in Gaza began. Hezbollah fighters and other Iran-backed militants have been attacking Israel in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, leading to months of cross-border fire by both sides.

The tensions have escalated sharply in recent weeks following the killings of Fuad Shukr, a senior commander in Hezbollah, and Ismail Haniyeh, a top leader of Hamas, groups allied with Iran. Hezbollah and Iran have vowed to retaliate more forcefully than before against Israel, leaving the Middle East on tenterhooks for more than two weeks.

The Biden administration has led a renewed diplomatic push for a Gaza cease-fire , which U.S. and regional officials hope will prompt Iran and its allies to curb any retaliation and avert a wider regional war. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken was scheduled to travel to Israel on Saturday to help facilitate the talks, which are being mediated by the United States, Egypt and Qatar.

On Saturday, Israel’s cease-fire negotiations team briefed Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, on two days of talks in Qatar that ended on Friday. The security chiefs who participated in the negotiations expressed “cautious optimism” about the ability to move toward an agreement, Mr. Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

All of the people killed in the strike on Toul, near the southern city of Nabatiye, were Syrian refugees and included a woman and her two children, said the Lebanese health minister, Dr. Firass Abiad.

More than a million Syrian refugees fled to Lebanon to escape a long-running civil war at home that began in 2011. Syrian laborers often live with their families where they work.

On Saturday afternoon, Israeli drones circled above the remnants of the destroyed factory. Next door, a collapsed concrete building held what appeared to be the sleeping quarters of the workers and their families. The broken concrete and the metal rebar that once supported the structure were strewed with clothing and the broken plastic of a child’s car seat.

One laborer was killed where he was sleeping along with his wife and two children, according to rescue workers who dug them out of the rubble. At least six other laborers were killed in the strike and two were wounded, the rescue workers said.

The Israeli military said it was looking into the claim that civilians were harmed in the attack.

Hezbollah’s chief, Hassan Nasrallah, threatened in July to hit new targets in Israel if it continued to target civilians in Lebanon. In response to the latest attack, Hezbollah said it fired a barrage of rockets at Ayelet Hashachar, a kibbutz in northern Israel.

The Israeli military said roughly 55 rockets crossed into Israeli territory, some of which ignited fires. There were no immediate reports of casualties. An Israeli soldier was severely wounded in a separate rocket attack from Lebanon on Saturday morning, the military said.

For months, Israel and Lebanon have appeared to carefully calibrate their attacks in an attempt to avoid a wider escalation.

Hezbollah has fired thousands of rockets and drones at northern Israel in solidarity with Hamas, which led the massive surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7 that set off the war in Gaza.

Israel has responded to attacks from Lebanon with bombardments that have killed more than 500 people, most of them Hezbollah fighters, according to figures from the Lebanese health ministry, Hezbollah and the United Nations.

But after a rocket attack from Lebanon in late July that killed 12 children and teenagers in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, Israel killed Mr. Shukr, one of Hezbollah’s highest-ranking military commanders, in an apartment in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Hours later, an explosion widely attributed to Israel killed Mr. Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas’s political bureau, who was staying in a closely guarded state guesthouse in the Iranian capital, Tehran, to attend the inauguration of a new Iranian president. Israel never publicly confirmed its involvement.

Iran and its ally Hezbollah have pledged to avenge the killings. But U.S., Iranian and Israeli officials said on Friday that Iran had decided to delay any reprisals against Israel to allow mediators to continue working toward a cease-fire in Gaza.

High-level talks in Qatar on a truce and the release of the 115 hostages still held by Hamas and its allies in Gaza ended without an immediate breakthrough on Friday. But the United States, Egypt and Qatar said the negotiations would go on next week in Cairo, as mediators raced to try to secure a deal.

Even as senior officials have shuttled from capital to capital in an attempt to end the war, the fighting in Gaza has gone on. About 15 members of a single family, including children, were killed when their house was bombarded, according to the Palestinian civil defense agency.

Israeli aircraft struck dozens of sites across the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, the Israeli military said on Saturday, and ground troops swept through parts of the southern city of Khan Younis, already devastated in an earlier assault.

The Israeli military again ordered Palestinians to flee parts of central Gaza that Israel had previously designated a “humanitarian zone” for many of the nearly two million Gazans who have been displaced during the war.

Avichay Adraee, an Israeli military spokesman, said Hamas and other militant groups had repeatedly fired rockets from the area.

Many Gazans have been displaced multiple times by the war. Aid groups say there is still nowhere safe for them to go, as Israel has vowed to target Hamas wherever it believes the organization is operating.

“Many of the thousands of families affected only recently arrived in the area, after other displacement orders in Khan Younis,” said Louise Wateridge, a spokeswoman for the U.N. agency that aids Palestinian refugees.

Gazans are “trapped in an endless nightmare,” she said.

Our Coverage of the Middle East Crisis

Israel-Hezbollah Tensions:  Amid fears of an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, the two sides mounted the biggest round of cross-border strikes  since the war in Gaza began. But both sides signaled that they were de-escalating , for now.

Gaza Cease-Fire Talks:  After senior Israeli and Hamas officials arrived in Cairo to meet with mediators, four days of talks concluded with no breakthrough. Officials said discussions will continue .

Polio Concerns in Gaza:  Polio vaccines arrived in Gaza, kicking off an expansive effort to vaccinate more than 640,000 Palestinian children  after the first confirmed case of the disease in the territory in 25 years.

Seeing Hope in Hamas:  In Ein al-Hilweh, Lebanon’s largest community of Palestinian refugees that has long been mired in despair, Hamas recruitment is up  and the downtrodden air has given way to defiance and celebration.

Gaza’s Orphans:  The war in Gaza is making so many orphans   that no agency or aid group can count them. Extended families, hospital staff and volunteers are stepping in to care for the children.
