VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI — Two years ago, Warner Vineyards held 16 concerts at its outdoor amphitheater. Last summer, that number grew to 25. This year, the Paw Paw vineyard is putting on more than 40 shows.

For the first time, the 1,500-person capacity venue, nestled alongside the East Branch Paw Paw River at 706 S. Kalamazoo St., will also play host to a number of national acts.

Among the names coming to Michigan’s second-oldest winery this summer include Dawes, Spafford, The Motet, Buckcherry, Powerman 5000, Sponge, Artimus Pyle and The Band of Heathens.

“Our goal is to become Southwest Michigan’s No. 1 outdoor music venue, as well as winery and brewery,” said Pat Warner. “Not too many people have a train on their property and also a river running through it. There’s a lot of charm and characteristic just to the natural beauty. And the music is growing.”

Warner, the third-generation owner of the 86-year-old family vineyard, is excited to unveil a new lighting rig and sound system at the venue this season.

He built the amphitheater 16 years ago, but has only been doing shows for six years, he said.

As far as the lineup, he attributes the addition of national acts in this year’s lineup to his partnership with Nick Leroy and Jon Lewchenko of NTL Productions. The Indiana-based company manages six other venues across the Midwest, which gives them more buying power, Warner said.

For example, NTL was able to book Buckcherry at two venues and Dawes at three, he said.

The venue, which kicks off its season on Friday, May 10, with Kalamazoo songstress Kait Rose’s Fleetwood Mac Tribute project, will also be the site of numerous tribute shows over the summer.

Music fans will be able to enjoy nights dedicated to the music of Prince, Taylor Swift, Pink Floyd, Dave Matthews, Eminem, Abba, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty and The Grateful Dead, to name a few.

Patrons to all shows will have the ability to purchase general admission tickets for either the front of the venue (standing) or back of the venue where they can bring in their own lawn chairs and sit by the river.

There are also 325 reserved table seats available for purchase, which allow show-goers to sit at one of the venue’s half-dozen decks or on floor level. With the addition of two new decks this year, the seating capacity has nearly doubled in size year over year, Warner said. Reserved seating sells out fast for each show, he said.

Those with a desire to stay on site may even have a chance to stay in a 1912 Canadian rail car that doubles as an Airbnb . The train car has been on site since 1967, but is in its third year of operating as an Airbnb.

The Airbnb isn’t the only new amenity at Warner Vineyards. The winery — second oldest in Michigan only to neighboring St. Julian, according to the South Haven Visitors Bureau — also introduced a brewhaus four years ago and began serving its own beers. At the same time, it began serving food on site.

“When we introduced the brewhaus, we realized we needed to do food as well,” Warner said. “We did our own for a couple years, but we’re very excited that Danny (Pellegrino) is handling all of that now.”

Pellegrino, who owns the Paw Paw Country Market with his business partner Antonio Ortiz, operates the Paw Paw Pizza Co. on site at Warner Vineyards and takes care of the concert menu with Ortiz.

There’s no deep-dish pizza offered at the brewhaus, but pub-style pizza, burgers, pretzel bites and items like pulled pork nachos, are all popular pre-concert favorites, Pellegrino said.

“We’ve found a niche with these concerts ... and it’s working,” Warner said. “We just want to keep going and make it better each year and make it fun. That’s what we do. We have fun.

“When it’s all said and done, we make wine, we make beer and we make music. We’re a company of fun.”

Well, the world didn't end, but Direct Inject is ready to soundtrack the next disaster on deck.

GRAMMY® Award-winning vocalist, songwriter, guitar legend, producer, and Gov’t Mule front man Warren Haynes has added a special show date at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre to his upcoming Now Is The Time Tour featuring The Warren Haynes Band & The Dreams and Songs Symphonic Experience. The new show takes place on Tuesday, September 10th and will feature Haynes (vocals, guitar) and his new all-star lineup for the Warren Haynes Band – longtime friend John Medeski (keys), Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott (bass), veteran WHB member Terence Higgins (drums) and the venerable Greg Osby (sax) – performing with the Colorado Symphony, led by conductor Christopher Dragon. Artist and venue pre-sale tickets for Red Rocks will be available Thursday, May 16th from 10am-10pm MT with the public onsale commencing Friday, May 17th at 10am MT. PRESS HERE to purchase and visit www.warrenhaynes.net for more info.

“It’s almost cliche to say Red Rocks is a magical venue, but the truth is…it is,” shares Haynes. “Having played there dozens of times, I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad show there. So, when picking places to bring my retrospective Symphonic Experience show, the one place I knew we had to play was Red Rocks. This show features material from all the amazing bands I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of over the last 30 years - interpreted by different orchestras around the country in addition to music from my various solo records and new, yet to be released material as well. I’m honored to perform once again with the Colorado Symphony and to unleash my new band, which will perform with and without the symphony.”

The Now Is The Time Tour featuring The Warren Haynes Band & The Dreams and Songs Symphonic Experience features a full set of symphonic music plus a set of Haynes’ signature rock/soul blend alongside the debut of the new Warren Haynes Band. The brand-new show will explore all aspects of Warren’s incredible catalog and career including music from Gov’t Mule, Allman Brothers Band, The Dead, Jerry Garcia, his solo albums (including the Grammy-nominated Man In Motion), and more set to never-before heard arrangements for all songs, except the Garcia tunes which will find Haynes revisiting compositions from the groundbreaking Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration tour. All shows, apart from Red Rocks, will be conducted by Rich Daniels of Chicago’s City Lights Orchestra. PRESS HERE to watch the tour promo video.

The Now Is The Time Tour featuring The Warren Haynes Band & The Dreams and Songs Symphonic Experience debuts next month with three special nights in the northeast June 7 - 9 and then continues in July with shows throughout the Midwest. In between, the Warren Haynes Band will head to Europe for an 8-date tour in June and support Slash at the West Coast dates of the S.E.R.P.E.N.T Festival from July 5 - 14 including July 13th at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. See below for all upcoming tour dates and details.

For all dates of the Now Is The Time Tour, a limited number of specially curated VIP packages are available for fans, including a Guitar Player option featuring an autographed Gibson Les Paul Standard Pickguard, set of custom Warren Haynes guitar picks in collector box, a Dunlop guitar slide, and set of GHS strings (the same items used by Warren), plus priority access and more. Also available for one very lucky VIP is the Ultimate Guitar Package which includes one Les Paul Classic, Translucent Cherry guitar to be played and autographed at the show by Warren and delivered in a private post-show meet & greet and photo with Warren, premium reserved seats, and much more. Visit www.warrenhaynes.net for more info and to purchase.

The Now Is The Time Tour featuring The Warren Haynes Band & The Dreams and Songs Symphonic Experience follows the hugely popular Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration, which featured 30 total shows throughout 2013-2016. The beloved production provided Warren the opportunity to interpret and celebrate the music of Jerry Garcia and ultimately served as inspiration to create his own symphonic event. In March 2019, Haynes first premiered his show “Dreams & Songs – A Symphonic Journey” to rave reviews with two sold-out shows with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra in Warren’s hometown of Asheville, NC. Alongside a full orchestra and an A-list band of core musicians, the one-of-a-kind evenings featured symphonic adaptations of his career-spanning material in a unique and distinctive way, allowing Haynes to stay true to his rock and improvisational roots while also embracing the power and beauty of the symphony. The all-new Now Is The Time Tour featuring The Warren Haynes Band & The Dreams and Songs Symphonic Experience will expand upon the original “Dreams & Songs” shows with a remarkable multi-dimensional experience, showcasing the unmatched career of one of the most impressive guitarists and vocalists of the modern era.

Taylor Swift made big changes to Eras Tour. What to know about set list, 'Tortured Poets'

PARIS, France — Who's afraid of little old Taylor Swift adding an additional set to her already extensive Eras Tour setlist ? The singer revivified her magnum opus in La Défense Arena adding seven songs from "The Tortured Poets Department."

Swift rearranged the majority of the show, leaving only the "Lover," "Fearless" and "Midnights" eras in their original spots. "Folklore" and "Evermore" joined forces in one eight-song set. Swift also debuted several new outfits and cut some songs from the set list.

Toward the end of her show, Swift officially launched the long-awaited “The Tortured Poets Department” section of the tour after the 1989 era.

Live from Paris: Taylor Swift's Eras Tour begins again in France

Swift performed the track “But Daddy I Love Him” off the April 19 album for her ecstatic fans while wearing a new beige dress with cursive letters.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

A road spiraled down the catwalk in an animation to initiate the era. The background animation showed a deserted road while large cages animated and fell on the road.

“Oh my god you should see your faces,” she sang.

She quickly segwayed into a brief moment of “So High School,” the beloved track speculated to be about her romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She then performed the powerhouse anthem “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me.”

Swift switched to “Down Bad” before seamlessly transitioning into the lead single “Fortnight.” Stage production recreated an asylum that resembled the music video for the song with Post Malone, whose recorded harmony played concluding the song.

Dancers entered the stage in a marching band style format playing drums as she performed the wrath-fueled song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Dancers Jan Ravnik and Kameron Saunders then revived Swift in a jazzy skit to set up “I Can Do With A Broken Heart,” where she debuted another new outfit.

“The End” text displayed wrapping up the era that’s likely here to stay. Other beloved tracks like “Guilty As Sin” and “Florida!” did not make the cut.

At the start of the secret set, Swift described the "Tortured Poets" set as "Female Rage: The Musical." Fans then got to hear another song from the new album as she played heartbreaking ballad "loml" on the piano as part of her acoustic set.

Set list: Taylor Swift unveils new Eras Tour in Paris with 'Tortured Poets' tracks

'The Tortured Poets Department' songs added to set list

Swift added these seven new songs from "Tortured Poets" to her set list:

  • "But Daddy I Love Him"
  • "So High School"
  • "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me"
  • "Fortnight"
  • "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
  • "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart"

The eras in a new order

Swift switched up the order of her eras in the set list. Here's how the new show proceeds:

  • "Speak Now"
  • "Reputation"
  • "Folklore" and "Evermore" combined
  • "The Tortured Poets Department"
  • Acoustic set of rotating, secret songs
  • "Midnights"

Check out the entire new set list here .

Songs cut from the Eras Tour set list

Swift gave a preview of the songs cut from her show in the first release of her Eras Tour movie. To be fair, she incorporated opening act Paramore during the "Speak Now" set to sing "Castles Crumbling" after "Enchanted."

  • "Lover": "The Archer"
  • "Evermore": "'Tis the Damn Season" and "Tolerate It"
  • "Speak Now": "Long Live"
  • "Folklore": "The 1" and "The Last Great American Dynasty"

The tortured poet debuted the new set in front of 40,000-plus fans at La Défense Arena in Paris.

CBS SF talks to Slayer guitarist Kerry King about his new band's debut album, upcoming tour

By Eddie Jorgensen

May 9, 2024 / 7:21 AM PDT / CBS San Francisco

For the uninitiated, Slayer's co-founding guitarist Kerry King has been at the forefront of thrash metal for almost four decades. With a style that encapsulates the finer moments of thrash, punk and metal, King's songs have been the soundtrack to many head-banging youths with such song staples as "Mandatory Suicide," "Hell Awaits," and "Raining Blood."

As the debut his new band's latest single "Idle Hands" proved, longtime Slayer fans didn't have to worry if the guitarist softened since Slayer's farewell tour back in November 2019. Said Kerry -- who ceremoniously left his trademark chains behind as he walked offstage at the last Slayer gig -- "I knew early on that I wasn't done, and I had no intention of not continuing to play."

Kerry King

With principle tracks recorded at Henson Studios in Los Angeles over the course of only two weeks, From Hell I Rise  was finished shortly thereafter. Featuring 13 blistering tracks including standouts "Crucifixation," "Toxic," "Residue," and the highly infectious "Tension," there isn't a dud to be found. And with song structures and topics that could only come from Slayer's axeman, this soundtrack to the apocalypse -- available on all formats on May 17th Reigning Phoenix Music -- is sure to incite riotous behavior and circle pits wherever the band performs.

Much more than a side project, Kerry King -- both the band and the man -- are on a mission and putting the group at the forefront of all conversations. While Slayer may have announced reunion appearances at a trio of festivals in the fall (including one at Aftershock 2024 in Sacramento ), King and his new band will be on the road as much as humanly possible. Started well before the pandemic, King has been a writing machine and, perhaps, even more prolific than during his full-time Slayer tenure.

And while there is much chatter going on about Slayer returning this year, From Hell I Rise  showcases one helluva line-up and is much more than a distraction from current events. Featuring some of Bay Area's best including longtime Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph (who also once played in Forbidden), guitarist Phil Demmel (formerly with Vio-Lence and Machine Head, who is also a member of the recently unveiled supergroup Category 7 featuring Armored Saint and former Anthrax frontman John Bush), and Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda along with bassist Kyle Sanders (Hellyeah), there is more than enough firepower to appease even the most devout Slayer fan.

As luck would have it, the band will be supporting Lamb Of God and Mastodon on a stateside trek dubbed the "Ashes of Leviathan Tour" that sees them crisscrossing the U.S. starting July 19th in Grand Prairie, TX and then ultimately ending in La Vista, Nebraska at the close of August.

CBS SF:  Just finally listened to the new album as a whole and it's a great listen from top to bottom. How long have these songs been ruminating? Were any of these riffs meant for Slayer originally?

Kerry King: There are two complete songs on this album that were left over from 'Repentless' and they were even done lyrically then, but I wasn't thrilled with how they turned out. I put them back in my pocket until the next Slayer record, but there never was a next record, so that became part of my new record.  Some of these riffs, like the main body of 'Residue,' is probably over 20 years old. I could never find the parts to finish it. This time I was able to. It's one of those songs that I always knew I wanted to use, but didn't want to put it out prematurely. There's tons of stuff I wrote since Slayer was done. There's also tons of stuff I wrote since 'From Hell I Arise' was done, so record number two is shaping up nicely as well.

CBS SF:  Your band features a veritable who's who of the Bay Area metal scene. Why that area in particular?

Kerry King: I didn't think of it like that, but that's just how it panned out. I've known these guys -- especially, everybody from the Bay Area -- for decades.  All of them except Mark [Osegueda] needed work. Certainly Paul and I were out of work. Phil Demmel was also out of work, but he put his name in the hat very early and worked with us doing demos off and on. Every five or six weeks, he'd come down to play and we'd sound better.

Using the demos we had, Phil would send new ideas whenever had new material. Phil's an incredible player and Mark's one of the best singers in thrash metal, without question. The pulse of thrash definitely comes from there. We were a little displaced because we were in Southern California, but at the end of the day, so was Metallica.

I met Kyle in 2015 on the Mayhem Tour and we became friends very quickly. I knew that if I ever wanted a bassist, that's who I'd be calling. He's my East Coast connection. Paul's been working with me on and off since the early 90's, so the talent and the friendship is there. I'm happy I could help the guys out when they didn't have work. Right now, I get to go forward and show everybody what we got.

CBS SF: A full U.S. tour is already on the books. Do you plan to stay as busy with the KKB in 2025?

Kerry King: Absolutely. I would like to get something filled up between October and December 2024, but if the promoters think that's too early, then it will be soon after the New Year as business picks up again. Five weeks in Europe is very short for any kind of tour, be it festivals, or whatever. We want to go back and do a proper headline tour over there. We'll probably come to the States and do a proper headline tour or shift gears and put our other record out. We will be busy for sure.

CBS SF:  Do you prefer festivals over headlining dates?

Kerry King: That's difficult. I like both. If I had my choice, I would probably say a headlining date.  When you're doing festivals, you're just a pawn in a sea of bands that are there to entertain a mass of people, so there's too many cooks in the kitchen, so to speak.

CBS SF:  Any songs that didn't make the record?

Kerry King: Absolutely.  Within three months of Paul and I getting together, we had so many songs.  I said, "Hey dude, let's shift gears and finish the ones I've already got lyrics or titles for, or just songs making this record, so we aren't spinning our wheels and getting burned out." Before we called those songs, we made demos of them however far along they were at that point, and those are ones I'm going to readdress when I start working on stuff again. Actually, when I finally go on tour, during days off I'm going to really try to finish lyrics and stuff. When I come home and when the tour cycle is over, we can go right back in the studio and get more music out.

CBS SF:  Why no Bay Area show scheduled so far? Seems like your biggest market aside from Los Angeles and New York.

Kerry King: I'll bet that Lamb of God has played the Bay Area recently. There's no New York City show either, so I'm assuming Lamb of God had shows there awhile ago as well. We're playing the sheds in some B & C markets, but when we come back we'll be hitting the other places.

CBS SF:  What are your earliest memories of touring alongside Mark Osegueda previous to joining the band? What about Phil Demmel?

Kerry King: My earliest memories are all gone, because that was probably 40 years ago. I've known Mark since he was a teenager singing in Death Angel. I remember them opening for us because Mark always reminds me he did when he was not even 18 years old and still a kid. Beyond that, Death Angel did an opening run for us in around 2016 or 2017. Before that, it was basically different circles.

As far as Phil goes, I knew Phil in Vio-Lence, but really I don't remember that period either. We'd already toured with Machine Head lots and unless we were playing the same festivals and we turned up at the same place, I would never see him. However, every time if I was off and he came through or he was off and I came through, we'd hang to talk music and stuff.

CBS SF:  Have you worked with anyone else outside of your band that has music recorded for possible release someday?

Kerry King: No. This isn't a solo project. Kerry King [the band] happens to have my name on it. This is my band and will be until we decide no longer to be one. Hopefully, that's when we're all done and want to hang it up to go sit on our porch and watch a bucket of grass grow. These are my guys now, so get used to them.
