Emerging just as bro-country began its long fade in the mid-2010s, Brett Eldredge knew his way around an anthem, but as his career progressed, he gravitated toward his wheelhouse: a country crooner with a predilection for love songs. Eldredge's biggest hits arrived at the outset of his career, when he scored three back-to-back number one singles -- "Don't Ya," "Beat of the Music," and "Mean to Me" -- from his 2012 debut album, yet he remained a fixture in the Country Top Ten through the rest of the decade thanks to such romantic pop tunes as the 2016 ballad "Wanna Be That Song" and 2018's breezy "Love Someone." After steering toward the middle of the road with 2020's Sunday Drive, Eldredge returned to sunny, good-time music with 2022's Songs About You.

Brett Eldredge was born in Paris, Illinois, on March 23, 1986, and grew up listening to singers like Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, and Bobby Darin. After hearing Brooks & Dunn at the age of 16, he became fascinated by country music, a fascination that stayed with him when he began attending Elmhurst College in Chicago. After a trip to Nashville, where he heard his cousin Terry Eldredge (a veteran of Dolly Parton's band and a member of the Grascals) play at the Station Inn, Eldredge was inspired to transfer to Middle Tennessee State University, immersing himself in the vocal stylings of country singers like George Jones, Ray Price, and Vince Gill. He also began working on writing his own material and started performing at songwriter nights in the Nashville area. Eventually, he was introduced to producer and publisher Byron Gallimore, who signed Eldredge to his publishing company and encouraged him to keep writing songs.

Eldredge began tracking some of the best of his compositions, and following a showcase in Nashville, signed a recording offer from Atlantic Records. His first single, "Raymond," a poignant song about an Alzheimer's patient, was issued in September 2010 and earned respectable radio play. Eldredge's next single, 2011's "It Ain't Gotta Be Love," didn't fare as well, but 2012's "Don't Ya" was a genuine hit, selling over a million units and peaking at number five on the Country Singles chart. In August 2013, Eldredge issued his first album, Bring You Back, which included "Raymond" and "Don't Ya" as well as subsequent hits "Beat of the Music" and "Mean to Me." He was one of the opening acts on Taylor Swift's 2013 concert tour, and in 2015 he toured in tandem with Darius Rucker. May 2015 brought Eldredge another country hit, "Lose My Mind," which rose to number 12 on the Hot Country Songs chart, and "Just a Taste" followed in July 2015.

Released on September 11, 2015, his second album, Illinois, solidified his country stardom thanks to a pair of singles that reached number two on Billboard's Hot Country chart: "Lose My Mind" and "Drunk on Your Love." "Wanna Be That Song," which peaked at 17, kept Illinois on the charts into 2016, and in October of that year he released the holiday album Glow. Eldredge delivered the single "Somethin' I'm Good At" in February 2017, six months prior to the August release of his eponymous third album. The Brett Eldredge album debuted at number one on Billboard's Country charts and generated two Top Ten Country Airplay hits in "The Long Way" and "Love Someone."

Eldredge returned in the spring of 2020 with an EP of songs culled from his fourth album, Sunday Drive, a collection anchored by the single "Gabrielle." By the time the LP appeared in July, "Gabrielle" had peaked at 27 on Country Airplay. Upon its release, the record debuted at five on Billboard's Country charts and 42 on the Top 200. He next released Mr. Christmas, a seasonal set that appeared in October 2021. Eldredge returned to his usual upbeat style with 2022's Songs About You. ~ Steve Leggett

ABOUT BRETT ELDREDGE: In a genre defined by the credo “three chords and the truth,” Warner Music Nashville recording artist Brett Eldredge set a new bar with his current album, Songs About You. Candid in its approach and backed by an uncluttered, minimalistic soundscape, each of the 12 co-written songs finds the celebrated vocalist getting raw and unfiltered in a way rarely attempted in country music – or anywhere else. Eldredge has been engaged in one of country’s most transformative evolutions since the 2020 release of his critically acclaimed fourth studio record, Sunday Drive, when he began consciously pushing beyond clever, rom-com country anthems. His most recent holiday album, Mr. Christmas, followed his highly celebrated debut Christmas album, Glow. In 2016, the project inspired a single live show in Nashville, which has now grown into the annual Glow LIVE holiday tour, returning to major cities across the country later this year. With seven country radio No. 1’s, nine Gold and Platinum-certified singles, two Gold-certified albums and multiple CMA, ACM and CMT Music nominations and wins, the critically acclaimed entertainer regularly fills arenas nationwide with his powerhouse vocals and electrifying live performances.

Brett Eldredge Announces the Return of His Annual Glow Live Christmas Tour

The country star will take his annual holiday show on the road this November and December

It’s time to rock around the Christmas tree with Brett Eldredge .

The country music star, 37, announced on Monday that he’s bringing back his annual Glow Live Christmas tour for the 2023 holiday season.

The holiday show, named after his popular 2016 holiday album , will start ringing in the yuletide immediately after Thanksgiving on Nov. 24. The singer-songwriter kicks off the 14-date tour with a three-night residency in Nashville. He’ll then take the tour along throughout the Midwest and East Coast, with stops in Boston, Chicago, New York and Philadelphia, among other cities.

As he’s done since the release of Glow , the singer-songwriter will get fans in the spirit with his big band renditions of classic holiday songs from both the 2016 record and 2021’s Mr. Christmas , which also features two originals.

The “Songs About You” artist shared a statement about this year’s show in a press release. “The Glow tour has now become a big, beautiful Christmas tradition,” Eldredge said. “I love kicking off the season with all of you. I’m excited to return to some of my favorite cities and add some new cities including Detroit, Philadelphia and Milwaukee.  To me, it’s definitely the most wonderful time of the year.”

Last year, “Mr. Christmas” spoke to PEOPLE about why he loves continuing the Christmastime concerts . "I've been listening to this music since I was a kid, and I got to make my own version and my own spin on this music," the country star said. "And it's just a special kinda confidence I have in it of just bringing some joy and some much-needed comfort at a time of year where we all certainly need it. I'm just glad that I get to be a part of people's tradition and continue to grow that."

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free daily newsletter  to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

He added, "To see the tradition grow in front of me, in front of my eyes from when I started this Christmas album and these Christmas shows in a basement in Nashville for 100 people, and now it's going to multiple sold-out nights at our venues is the craziest thing. It just makes me think, you know, I can do this for another 50 years and I couldn't even imagine where it grows from there."

Tickets for the Glow Live Tour 2023 begin on Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. local time on bretteldredge.com . Citi cardholders will also have access to a presale , from Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. local time to Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. local time.

After getting into holiday mode at his home in Nashville, Tennessee, playing Christmas music and putting up decorations, country star Brett Eldredge is taking that spirit on the road.

His “Glow Live” tour visits Stifel Theatre on Dec. 3.

“This is my first time taking the show to St. Louis,” he says. “I’ve done New York, Chicago, Nashville through the years. It’s growing. We’re taking it to more cities, adding several more places.”

In planning the tour, Eldredge wanted to perform songs that reminded him of artists he heard his grandparents play — Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles and Dean Martin.

“I loved those big voices — people who moved you and grabbed hold of you with their voice,” he says. “When I was putting the set list together, those were the songs I grew up listening to. Holiday music is nostalgic. You listen to it and you feel those Christmas memories and that escape. The show is taking you back to those memories you loved before and creating some new memories.”

He says the show includes his favorite holiday songs, including “The Christmas Song,” “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “O Holy Night,” “Silent Night” and “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.”

“‘Silent Night’ is always a special moment,” Eldredge says. “The show’s got the whole mix. It’s overwhelming. I wanna do my favorites.”

He also wanted to include his own holiday originals — songs he says fit in among the classics.

Eldredge released his first Christmas album, “Glow,” in 2016 and followed it with “Mr. Christmas” in 2021. The collections are mostly his takes on favorites, with a few of his original songs.

“I’ll be making more,” he says. “There’s more songs I haven’t done yet. I just began this Christmas experience the last several years.”

Eldredge wrote “Feels Like Christmas” in 2020 during the pandemic.

“I was sitting on the couch like all of us,” he says. “I was writing on guitar, which I don’t always do. I had this really soulful Christmas song in my head. I would write to it, take a break and go do a Zoom, go back to it and keep chipping away at it.”

Another original is “Mr. Christmas”, which he started writing a few years ago. He had a hard time landing the chorus, but it came together after collaborating with a friend.

In concert, Eldredge will be dressed to the nines in an array of tuxedos. (He favors velvet — “when you put one on and it fits right, it puts a pep in your step.”) Fans typically show up in gowns and other festive attire.

“I go full out,” he says. “People get dressed and really show up. The kids are decked out, too. It’s a chance to allow yourself to be free.”

Eldredge grew up in Paris, Illinois, about 2½ hours from St. Louis. Growing up, he visited family in St. Louis at Easter.

“I’ve been going there my whole life,” he says. “It’s good to see family. It gives me a sense of home when I’m on the road, and that’s a beautiful thing. And I get a lot of my soul from St. Louis.”

He’s looking forward to returning for a meal at Pappy’s Smokehouse.

“I love to experience different things in different cities — not just sitting around in a hotel,” he says. “I want to feel the energy and spirit when going into the show.”

Eldredge’s seventh album, “Songs About You,” was released in June. He says it represents a big turn as a songwriter; he doubles down on themes from “Mr. Christmas.”

“It’s just a feel-good record — and a deep record,” he says.

At this point in his career, Eldredge makes music that means something to him.

“I’m not writing from the perspective of ‘this has to be a hit,’” he says. “If it hits, it’s a beautiful thing. I wanted it to mean something in my heart and connect to someone else.

“I wanted it to be vulnerable and upfront, to be able to trust myself and say, ‘This is who I am, and I’m going for it.’ And musically, it brings in the full picture of who I am.”
