6/29/2017 - The Saint in Asbury Park held an EPIC Lineup of the Hard, starting with the hard rocking,
crowd rockin' sounds of the band Overmind from Long Branch, NJ. Lead singer Mike Muratore spent more time offstage, mixing it up and singing with Overmind's loyal fans backing him up on vocals (which I've noticed is a signature part of their show). The crowd loved it.
Next up was the always insane, energetic, crowd jumping, rock, rap, jam, madman fusion band Psychotic Submarines. These are a bunch of younger cats, and they definitely show you that in their on-stage, wild and sometimes just crazy mauhem performances. It's always entertaining to see a band that leaves "it all on the stage." These guys took me by surprise when I first saw them open for Bumpin Uglies last October. I made it a goal to photograph their concerts as much as possible. They also bring in an excellent following of their college-aged peers. Absolutely incredible performance.
Finally, the main event, Bumpin Uglies. They play a nice and what seemed like a super long set, and I didn't here 1 complaint. The place was packed and jumping. Lead singer, Brandon, showed off his new haircut, haha. I've never seen him with short hair. One thing that totally stuck out was drummer TJ, absolutely destroying it on a couple separate drum solos. I swear he gets angrier at his drum set every time I see him play, lol. We in Uglies Nation should vote on a any mainstream song that has a dope drum solo for TJ to cover at a show or to, "like hot for teacher" but more recent of a band.
Overall this show gets an A+ from myself. I was looking forward to this one for a while and I had no doubt it would be nothing less of incredible. Today we got The Sounds of Summer Tour rolling through The Stone Pony in Asbiry Park, NJ. Slightly Stoopid, Iration, J. BOOG, & The Movement, with my friends band BARON PRAXIS playing the local stage inside the Pony @ 3:30 before the Tour starts outside. Another show for the history books today. If you're in the Asbury Park area, I suggest getting over to The Pony. Get there early and check my boys Baron Praxis out pre-Summer Stage too, you won't regret it. They are a legit Rock band that pumps out mad energy and great performances every time they play live.
One Love Everyone,
Nick Herron

Great band, tight live show, pretty damn dynamic for a 3-piece. All three players are really active up there (musically speaking, nobody's doin backflips on stage) and clearly have a love for playing. You can tell they're road warriors. Go see 'em and buy 'em a beer. This is drinking reggae rock.

BUMPIN UGLIES Announce ‘Underdog: The Acoustic Sessions’ LP and Fall Tour Dates w/ The Expendables
Fresh off the success of their recent album Mid-Atlantic Dub , rising Reggae Rock outfit Bumpin Uglies have announced the release of ‘ Underdog: The Acoustic Sessions ,’ a visceral 16-track collection arriving September 8 via Controlled Substance Sound Labs/The Orchard ( Slightly Stoopid, Rebelution, Pepper ).
While the new project boasts searing stripped-raw takes of classics from fan favorite releases Buzz (“Locust Avenue”, “Self-Loathing”, “This Is Ours”), Keep It Together (“Load In / Load Out”, “Keep Moving”) Beast from the East (“City by the Bay”), Keep your suitcase packed. (“Shades of Gray”, “Suburbia”), and 2022’s Mid-Atlantic Dub (“Wild Girls”), seven new songs join the fray to supercharge the day.
Acoustic can be urgent. It’s because of the words. Lyrics are the marvels that move you. The message is what resonates long after the beats dissipate.
On the band’s first ever career-spanning milepost, band co-founder/vocalist Brandon Hardesty revisits some of the band’s most solemn streets, from Suburbia and Locust Avenue to Self-loathing and City by the Bay, it’s shades of gray, it’s spinning plates, it’s catch & release and keep moving. It’s vitality, the pure essence of Bumpin Uglies . Full of passion and integrity, these are the anthems of a thinking man’s society. The land of the free. The home of the brave, these are the days we commemorate when the fire in the belly inflames, when you demand change. This is Ours. Don’t count out the Underdog.
“This is an anthem for authenticity. It’s for all the artists that choose to embrace their passion as a form of art, rather than a transactional medium. A celebration of the imperfections that make us beautiful,” offered Hardesty.
From the emotional umbrage of lead single “ Underdog ” (releasing June 16), to the lilting blue-collar confessional “ The Work ,” the bouncy ebullient self-awareness of “ Spinning Plates ,” and the tension-filled, fed-up verve of “ Loneliness in Ab ,” to the pandemic-fueled melancholy of “ Livestreams & Vaccines ” and album closer, “ Jerry’s Song ,” a heartbreakingly moving tribute Brandon wrote in remembrance of his father who passed away in 2021, the new tunes find Hardesty digging even further into his core, rescuing himself from another crossroads while providing guidance for those still in the throes.
The upcoming full-length expands upon the band’s two ‘ Live at Sugarshack Sessions ’ acoustic EPs, the latest of which featured a sparse passionate rendition of Jason Isbell ’s “Cover Me Up,” to which the former Drive-By Trucker championed with the social media comment “Lovely job!” Americana Highways seconded that sentiment by professing, “Vocals that are youthful and disarming and sound a bit like indie folksters like Passenger.”

Haslett (drums), Ethan Lichtenberger (keys) and Will Lopez (tenor saxophone), blend rock, hip hop, dub, reggae and punk into a refreshing blast of spacetime funk. Bumpin Uglies Announce Single “Spinning Plates” and Tour Dates with The Expendables
Rising Reggae Rock outfit Bumpin Uglies announce second single “Spinning Plates,” from ‘Underdog: The Acoustic Sessions.’
Rising reggae-rock outfit Bumpin Uglies have announced the release of “Spinning Plates,” the bluesy groove-driven second single from Underdog: The Acoustic Sessions , a visceral 16-track collection out September 8th, via Controlled Substance Sound Labs / The Orchard ( Slightly Stoopid , Rebelution , Pepper ). The single comes fresh off the success of lead single “Underdog,” the band’s quickest single to 100,000 streams (six days).
Characterizing the unflinchingly honest new single (“Spinning Plates”), available on all DSPs now , band co-founder/vocalist Brandon Hardesty offers, “Spinning Plates is a song about not being ok in your own skin so to compensate you try and stay busy so there’s no time to think about it. I was playing a lot of blues guitar when I wrote it so it’s made up with a bit of a of blues tonality over top of an acoustic reggae groove.”
While the new project boasts searing stripped-raw takes of classics from fan favourite releases Buzz (“ Locust Avenue ,” “ Self-Loathing ,” “ This Is Ours ”), Keep It Together (“ Load In / Load Out, ” “ Keep Moving ”) Beast from the East (“ City by the Bay ”), Keep your suitcase packed . (“ Shades of Gray, ” “ Suburbia ”), and 2022’s Mid-Atlantic Dub (“ Wild Girls ”), seven new songs join the fray to supercharge the day.
Hardesty comments on the band’s newest release:
“This album is an anthem for authenticity. It’s for all the artists that choose to embrace their passion as a form of art, rather than a transactional medium. A celebration of the imperfections that make us beautiful.”
The full-length expands upon the band’s two Live at Sugarshack Sessions acoustic EPs, the latest of which featured a sparse passionate rendition of Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up,” to which the former Drive-By Trucker championed with the social media comment “Lovely job!”
This fall, they’ll join reggae-rock icons The Expendables , as support on select dates, from September 14 – November 12, while also making appearances at a number of festivals, including Everwild Music Fest (Aug 3), Montana Hempfest (Sept 8), OctoberQuest (Oct 7) and Reggae Rise Up Vegas (Oct 8) which sees them share the main stage with Sublime With Rome , Dirty Heads , Action Bronson and Lettuce .
After their nationwide trek, the sextet will host a trio of Holiday shows, including their climactic Ugly Sweater Bash at Baltimore Soundstage in Baltimore on December 2. Tickets, information, and VIP upgrades are available here!

Samara Joy, born and raised in the Bronx, has dazzled crowds at jazz clubs, festivals, and cultural institutions across the globe, performed on NBC’s Today Show with Hoda and Jenna , and earned glowing public endorsements from the likes of Regina King , LaKeith Stanfield , and many others. While she is influenced by the greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Carmen McRae, Samara takes a contemporary approach to her art and performance as evidenced by her massive TikTok following. Her Verve Records debut album Linger Awhile - named one of the Best Jazz Albums of 2022 by The New York Times - is a 10-song collection of beloved tunes, updated for a new generation. Recorded at Sear Sound in New York City by Chris Allen and produced by Matt Pierson, Linger Awhile features exemplary musicianship by Pasquale Grasso (guitar), Ben Paterson (piano), David Wong (double bass), and Kenny Washington (drums).
