Beginning February 12, 2024, the Celebrity Cruises Premium Access Package is in force, an add-on announced last summer that was previously marketed as the Celebrity Pass (Xpass). Designed to provide an upgraded cruise experience, the Premium Access Package includes premium Wi-Fi in addition to several other enticing perks.

What Is Included In The Celebrity Cruises Premium Access Package

For about $28.99 per person per day (the price varies) if purchased before your cruise, you will receive the following benefits:

  • Premium Wi-Fi (available only on Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Beyond, and Celebrity Ascent)
  • Unlimited complimentary room service (waived delivery fee & gratuities)
  • Early access at the terminal on Embarkation Day
  • Priority luggage delivery to staterooms on Embarkation Day
  • Welcome lunch in the main dining room served from 12:00 pm to 1:30 p.m. on Embarkation Day
  • Priority departure from ship to shore in ports that require tender service
  • Reserved seating at shows in the theater
  • Express luggage service in the terminal on Debarkation Day

Note that the two most valuable benefits offered are premium Wi-Fi and complimentary room service.

If purchased onboard, the cost of the package is about $32.99 per person per day, but again, the price varies.

What You Need To Know

Most importantly, you need to know that you may already have access to most if not all of these benefits through your Celebrity loyalty tier, your Blue Chip Club loyalty tier, or by booking a cabin above balcony class.

Also, all guests ages 6 or older in the same cabin must purchase the package.

Is The Priority Access Package A Good Deal

If you were going to purchase the premium Wi-Fi package anyway, which costs about $35 per person per day (the price varies), then the package might be a bargain for you.

But there are other things to consider. Read on.

Who Would Benefit Most From Purchasing The Priority Access Package

The package might be a good deal for you if you:

  • Have booked a balcony cabin or below
  • Have a basic Wi-Fi package and plan to upgrade to premium anyway
  • Are sailing on the Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent, or a newer ship
  • Do not have a high loyalty tier with Celebrity or with the Blue Chip Club
  • Enjoy ordering room service
  • Would place value on priority embarkation, tendering, debarkation, and reserved theater seating

If you do not fit into several of the above categories, then the Premium Access package would probably not be a good fit for you.

If you are staying in a concierge class cabin, an aqua class cabin, or in The Retreat , you will already receive many or all of the benefits that come with the Premium Access package.

How Do You Access The Benefits Offered With The Priority Access Package

Your room keycards will have a special symbol on them that indicates you have purchased the package, allowing you the benefits.

Are The Benefits Offered Worthwhile

As repeat Retreat guests, we would not be candidates for the Premium Access package because we already receive those benefits. But we can attest that the benefits are worthwhile.

Being able to board the ship quickly without waiting for long periods in the port building is wonderful, giving you more time to enjoy your cruise.

Priority luggage delivery means you will have your luggage long before dinner, giving you time to get settled in and change your clothing for the evening.

Having the option of the welcome lunch in the main dining room provides a relaxed first meal onboard, avoiding the throng in the buffet on embarkation day.

Knowing you have reserved seating in the theater means not having to worry about whether seats are available, or having to wait in line. Up until a few minutes before the curtain rises, there will be seats available for you.

Priority tendering is helpful if you want to be one of the first off the ship to enjoy the port on your own with less crowding.

It’s nice to be able to order room service and not worry about the $9.95 charge and gratuities. When you have an early excursion, room-service breakfast is the best!

All of the above benefits help make your cruise experience more enjoyable and special. And we all want to feel special, right?

Final Thoughts on the Celebrity Cruises Premium Access Package

The Celebrity Cruises Premium Access is a great deal for certain cruisers on Celebrity, but not all. Before purchasing, ensure you don’t already qualify for the benefits offered.

If you would like to have more information about the Premium Access Package, contact Celebrity Cruises . Only a limited number of these packages are available per cruise, so act fast if you are certain you want to purchase the package.

6 Cruise Lines With Great Wi-Fi

celebrity cruises premium wifi review

Fast, reliable internet is increasingly important to cruise passengers and can be a factor when considering which cruise line or ship to book.

The good news is that simple internet tasks -- browsing websites, reading and sending emails, posting updates to social media sites -- are faster than they've ever been across most cruise lines. But performing more data-intensive tasks -- downloading or uploading photos, using Wi-Fi calling and VoIP (Skye, FaceTime, WhatsApp), and streaming TV shows, movies or music -- is still a crap shoot, with some cruise lines not supporting streaming at all.

A handful of cruise lines do stand out for significantly expanding the bandwidth capacity on their ships (typically from 1 to 2 megabits per second to as high as 10Mbps). Some of them can be commended for making internet access affordable, while others force you to pay for enhanced service. The following six cruise lines are our favorites for fast and/or affordable Wi-Fi onboard.

On This Page

Royal caribbean, celebrity cruises, norwegian cruise line, msc cruises, silversea cruises, carnival cruise line.

Speed: Great

Royal Caribbean's VOOM internet is the gold standard when it comes to cruise ship Wi-Fi, with the fastest speeds out there. Some Cruise Critic forum members report speeds of up to 24Mbps, which, believe us, is fast! With Voom, there's not much you can't do. Need to upload pictures to Facebook or Instagram? Not a problem. Want to catch up with your favorite show on Hulu? You can do that, too. From streaming to Wi-Fi calls and VoIP applications on messaging apps, everything is supported.

Access to the internet on Royal Caribbean is tiered and is priced accordingly with prices varying by ship (generally speaking, none of the packages cost more than $20 per day except day passes). The Surf package is the slowest and is best for those who just want to use social media apps or check email. The Surf & Stream package is what supplies the super-fast internet.

Prices for each package are by device (one, two or four), per day with the lowest prices being for those who purchase a four-device plan; single day passes are also available.

Celebrity Cruises' Xcelerate unlimited internet is fast enough to enable streaming and VoIP capabilities on a pretty reliable basis. Recent upgrades have increased the speed of the Wi-Fi on Celebrity ships by 70x what it previously was; however, the Internet can still be constrained by the ship's location, as well as by how many people are trying to use the internet at once. Cruise Critic forum members, however, report few problems streaming movies and live sporting events on a consistent basis.

The cost for internet is a bit pricy, starting at $249 on a seven-night cruise. Buying a package before the cruise gets you a 10 percent discount off the onboard price.

Speed: Good to great

Norwegian Cruise Line's internet ranges in speed, but can go quite fast. Though the line would not divulge its Wi-Fi's top speeds, Norwegian did recently invest to expand its bandwidth by 40 percent in time for the 2018 summer season. Most capabilities are supported, but you have to purchase the correct plan for what you want to do. Only one plan supports streaming, though depending on the ship's location and how many people are online at a time, you might be able to use a basic plan for VoIP apps.

The prices for Norwegian's plans are at the higher end for the cruise industry. For unlimited access to just social media sites, the cost is $14.99 per day ($105/week). An unlimited Wi-Fi package that does not support streaming of any kind (music or video) is $29.99 per day ($210/week), while an unlimited plan that supports streaming is $34.99 per day ($245/week).

You can also pay as you go or purchase a 250-minute package, but neither of these supports streaming. (All packages cost 15 percent less if purchased pre-cruise, and cruises of 13 days or longer receive a small per-day discount.)

Close-up shot of an iPad on MSC Divina, as the ship is leaving Miami

Speed: Great on MSC Seaside; average on other ships

MSC Cruises offers high-speed internet on its newest U.S.-based ship, MSC Seaside. (Europe-based MSC Seaview may offer the same speeds, but there are no confirmed reports of this yet.) Speeds for the premium plan are fast enough to support streaming and VoIP, but because MSC offers packages by data, rather than time, using high-data functionalities (like streaming movies or TV shows) will use up your plan rather quickly.

Plans are offered by data level and device usage. At the lower end is a one device, 1.5 gigabyte plan ($50) that's best for checking email and using social media, including posting photos and text messaging. A two device, 3GB plan ($100) and four device, 6GB plan ($160) are best for fuller usage of the internet, with the latter better for anyone looking to stream. (Keep in mind, one hour of streaming on Netflix uses about 1GB of data for SD video or up to 3GB for HD video.)

Speed: Good

Cost: Low (free) for standard; medium for premium

Silversea's standard internet, which is complimentary to all passengers, is generally reliable and supports most basic tasks, but its premium Wi-Fi is where the speed really comes in, generally fast enough to support both streaming and VoIP on a reliable basis. According to the line, Wi-Fi speeds can go as fast as 2.9Mbps -- slow for land-based internet, but at the high end for cruise ships. The average daily speed, of course, is less (the line could not provide a number), as the ship changes position and the number of people connected at any given time goes up or down.

Standard internet is free for everyone on Silversea Cruises, but those staying in larger suites get the premium Wi-Fi for no additional cost. Cruisers with standard who want to upgrade to premium can do so for $29 per day.

Speed: Average to Good with the Premium Plan; great on Carnival Horizon

Carnival Cruise Line has concentrated on making its internet more reliable, leaving its investment in increased bandwidth and speed for its newest ships only (namely Carnival Horizon and Vista). As a result, Carnival's Wi-Fi on most ships tends to be the slowest of the big three cruise lines and is the only one to not support streaming -- you can use VoIP with its top-tier plan (not including FaceTime) but sites like Netflix, Hulu and Spotify are blocked.

Carnival's internet pricing, on the other hand, is the best there is at sea. A Social Wi-Fi plan costs $5 per day and includes access to standard social media sites, as well as messaging apps. The VoIP function of such apps (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, etc.) does not work with this plan. The Value Wi-Fi plan costs $12 per day, gives access to most websites and occasionally will be fast enough to support the voice functionality of messaging apps.

The Premium Wi-Fi plan costs $17.70 per day and provides access to everything in the Social and Value plans, but does so at a higher speed (three times that of the Value Plan). It also supports VoIP calling on messaging apps and Skype (but not FaceTime), but be prepared for a noticeable lag time. (Prices are for plans purchased for the duration of the sailing; there is a discount if plans are purchased pre-cruise.)

Do cruise ships have Wi-Fi? A line-by-line guide to internet access at sea

Gwen Pratesi

Do cruise ships have Wi-Fi? Yes, but internet access on cruise ships is both better and worse than you might expect. If you're headed on a cruise vacation and want to stay in touch with family and friends — or stream movies and music on board the ship — it is possible to stay fully connected while at sea. But you'll need to adjust your expectations if you think the connectivity will be similar to a hotel. Connectivity can be slow and spotty, although cruise lines are working to change that.

Ships rely on satellites for their internet connections at sea. The strength of the connection depends on several factors, including where you are in the world and the weather. On many lines, certain locations — such as public spaces near the center of the ship — tend to have better connectivity than other places (like your cabin).

Cruise lines are adopting new technologies to make internet access more reliable — and more affordable. Lines like Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Royal Caribbean, have installed Starlink in many vessels (fleetwide, in some cases). Starlink technology provides download speeds that range from 40 to over 200 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds that come in at 8 to more than 25 Mbps.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Here is an overview of what to expect from internet offerings on cruise ships and a line-by-line look at the plans and pricing available on your next cruise vacation.

What types of Wi-Fi plans do cruise lines offer?

Larger mainstream cruise lines typically have several plans available for purchase, with the cheaper plans only supporting email and texting and the pricier plans allowing streaming and Wi-Fi calling. Most upscale and luxury cruise lines offer a complimentary basic Wi-Fi plan to upgrade if you need a faster connection.

Before purchasing a plan, consider how much time you'll be online, how many devices you need to connect (a smartphone, tablet and a laptop?) and how much speed you'll need. If all you want to do is check emails or send texts, you may not need to spend additional money on an upgraded plan at all. Most cruise lines, but not all of them, let you use a one-device plan across multiple devices as long as you're only logged in to one at a time.

Note that you do not need a cruise ship Wi-Fi plan to access the free services — such as ordering food or checking the daily schedule — on a cruise line's app.

Pro tips for using cruise ship Wi-Fi

celebrity cruises premium wifi review

Before booking your cruise, look for promotions and deals that include basic Wi-Fi. If you can't get cruise ship internet included, don't wait to purchase your internet package until you're on board: It's usually less expensive to purchase Wi-Fi packages before sailing. Buying a package for the entire cruise is typically a better deal than the daily rate.

Keep your phone in airplane mode while on the ship to avoid roaming charges and other fees. Satellite roaming fees are much higher than you realize.

Related: Can you use your cellphone on a cruise?

Download apps, movies and music before your cruise. Not only can you access this entertainment on the flight to your home port, but you will be prepared should the onboard internet be slow on a sea day when you'd like to catch up on your must-watch show or listen to your favorite tunes at the gym.

To find the strongest Wi-Fi signal on the ship, download a network analyzer like NetSpot.

If you don't need to stay connected while on board, head into port and find a restaurant, bar or mall with free Wi-Fi. Ask crew members on the ship about the best places for free Wi-Fi in port; they often know. Or, use apps like WiFi Map that show you locations of nearby hotspots when you're in port.

Related: How can I get Wi-Fi on a cruise for free?

If you're struggling to upload photos on a sea day when everyone is on board and online, wait until folks are off the ship in port to try again. Early morning and late at night, when people are sleeping, are also good times to find faster connections.

Line-by-line guide to cruise ship internet access

Want to know what's available at sea before booking your next cruise? Here's a list of the available Wi-Fi plans and pricing for each of the major mainstream and luxury cruise lines. Most prices listed are per person, per day for the length of the cruise, and for one device unless otherwise indicated. Note that cruise lines can update pricing and plans at any time.

Price: Starting at $19.95 per day

Azamara 's internet access is provided by AT&T and Wireless Maritime Service. Guests on board the line's ships can choose to use one of their own devices to access Wi-Fi, such as a laptop or smartphone, or they can log in at one of the onboard Touch workstations.

You can purchase prepaid packages during the first two days of the voyage, and pricing is based on the number of minutes — or days — guests will need access to the internet. The plans are only available for one device at a time, and unused minutes are nonrefundable. Prepaid options are priced at $19.99 for one hour of usage. A one-day pass is available at $29.95 for a full day. The daily sessions will end within 24 hours of purchase.

If guests buy a Full Cruise Unlimited Package, the cost is $19.95 per day. This plan can be purchased at any time during the sailing, but guests will be charged for the full length of the voyage.

Members of the line's loyalty rewards program, Azamara Circle , receive benefits and perks for internet options based on their level. Members who book a Suite or Verandah Plus category can also combine their loyalty and suite Wi-Fi minutes. Perks of membership range from a 5% savings, including 30 free Wi-Fi minutes, or 20% toward a Full Voyage Unlimited Package at the Azamara Circle Adventurer level. For Discoverer Platinum members, there's a 100% savings on Wi-Fi that provides a Full Voyage Unlimited Package, no matter the category of cabin or length of the voyage.

Carnival Cruise Line

Price: starting at $12.75 per day.

Carnival Cruise Line offers guests the option of three plans via the line's satellite providers.

The Social Wi-Fi Plan provides access to the most popular social media apps, including Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and others. Prices start at $12.75 per day (per person) if purchased pre-cruise. The onboard purchase price is $15 per day.

The Value Wi-Fi plan, at $19.55 per day pre-cruise (onboard price is $23 per day), includes the Social plan features and allows guests to browse the internet and send and receive emails.

The fastest connection available (at three times the speed of the Value plan) is with the Premium Wi-Fi plan. At $21.25 (or $25 on board) per day, guests will be able to place video calls and stream music and videos.

You can also purchase a single 24-hour pass for the Value plan at $25 or the Premium plan at $35.

Celebrity Cruises

celebrity cruises premium wifi review

Price: Starting at $20 per day

Celebrity Cruises uses Starlink as a provider for internet service across its entire fleet, with the exception of its Galapagos-based ships.

For cabins booked as cruise-only fares, ranging from inside cabins to Concierge class, Wi-Fi can be purchased separately on board the ship at $20 per day per device for a Basic plan, which allows guests to browse the web, send and receive emails and text via messaging apps. The Premium plan costs $35 per day per device and adds the capability for live streaming, video chats and more. With either plan, there's a 10% savings when it's booked pre-cruise.

If guests choose the all-inclusive cruise price , fares include a Classic Drinks Package (with nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages), Basic Wi-Fi access and gratuities. AquaClass cabins always have Basic Wi-Fi included in the fare; suites in The Retreat always come with complimentary Premium Wi-Fi. If you have Basic Wi-Fi included in your cruise fare, you can upgrade to the Premium Package for $9.99 daily.

Benefits of the line's Captain's Club membership include discounts of between 10% off a Wi-Fi package for Classic-level members to a complimentary Premium Package for Zenith-level guests.

Cunard Line

Price: starting at $18 per day.

All Cunard ships are equipped with Starlink technology. You can purchase internet plans in advance of your sailing or once on board by logging onto the ship's Wi-Fi and going to the line's My Voyage app.

The Essential Internet plan is priced at $24 per day when bought on a day-by-day basis or $18 per day for the entire voyage. This option allows you to browse the internet, send and receive emails and stay connected on social media platforms via text and photos.

The Premium Internet plan includes video streaming and a three times faster connection speed than the Essential plan. The cost for this option is $36 per day, or $24 per day for the whole voyage.

The pricing for either plan is for one device at a time, and these plans can be purchased at any time during your sailing. If you want to connect to the internet using two devices at once, you can purchase an additional plan with a 10% discount.

Cunard World Club members may be eligible to receive credit toward internet on the ships: $45 per person for Gold members, $80 per person for Platinum members and $135 per person for Diamond members.

Disney Cruise Line

celebrity cruises premium wifi review

Price: Starting at $16 per day

Disney Cruise Line previously offered varied internet plans for different ships and cruise destinations but now offers standard packages across its fleet.

Guests can choose among three different packages, starting with the Stay Connected plan at $18 per day when purchased on a day-to-day basis and $16 per day for the entire cruise. This option will provide enough bandwidth to post photos and send texts on social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly called Twitter), Snapchat and Linkedin.

Basic Surf includes the benefits of the lower-priced plan (posting photos on social media) and the ability to surf the internet and send and receive emails. It costs $28 per day when purchased on a day-to-day basis and $24 per day for the entire sailing.

The Premium Surf plan offers the fastest connection speeds and features access to Apple Music and Spotify. It costs $42 daily (on a day-to-day basis) and $34 for the entire cruise. Guests will also be able to make calls on Zoom or FaceTime and view short-form videos on sites like TikTok and YouTube, along with other benefits like access to emails, web surfing and more.

None of the packages support video streaming on platforms like Disney+, Hulu and Netflix. Discounted pricing is available for up to four devices.

Holland America Line

Price: starting at $17.15 per day.

Holland America completed the installation of Starlink across its entire fleet in December 2023, which enhanced connectivity for the line's guests and crew. The line offers three Wi-Fi plans.

The Surf Voyage package is the most popular option at $17.15 per day per device and provides access to most social media websites and applications.

The Premium package, at $34.99 per day, per device, includes audio and messaging apps, and the ability to surf the web and check emails.

The Stream package is $45.99 per day, per device, and includes streaming capability and all the benefits of the Surf Voyage and Premium packages.

If you're considering other onboard expenses, the line's "Have it All" Premium Cruise Package is an economical way to get internet access and a Signature Beverage Package (with nonalcoholic and alcoholic drinks), specialty dining and a credit for shore excursions. The package is available on most sailings for $55 per person, per day.

Holland America's 5-Star Mariner guests receive a $30 credit toward a Wi-Fi package. Early Booking Benefits for Grand Voyages include 5,000 minutes of complimentary internet access in select suite categories.

MSC Cruises

celebrity cruises premium wifi review

Price: Starting at $17.59 per day

MSC Cruises offers two internet packages with a 20% discount for booking ahead of your sailing.

MSC's Browse Internet Cruise Package includes unlimited data, 24-hour internet access, chat and texts, and the ability to post photos and send and receive emails. Pricing starts at $17.59 per day per device (pre-cruise cost) and $21.99 per day if you buy it on board.

The Browse & Stream Cruise Package comes with the additional capability to video chat, stream music and movies, and post videos and live stream on social media. Pricing for this option is $21.59 per day, per device. The per-device price drops when purchasing either plan for multiple devices. Note that MSC does not let you switch from one device to another on the same plan, so make sure to sign in to your plan for the first time on the device you intend to use it on.

One-day internet packages are $29.99 per day (for Browse) and $34.99 (for Browse & Stream).

Voyagers Club members also receive discounts on internet packages. Guests sailing in MSC Yacht Club cabins receive a complimentary Browse package for two devices. It's possible to upgrade the package for an additional charge.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Price: starting at $29.99 per day.

Norwegian Cruise Line 's most popular internet plan is the Unlimited Wi-Fi Package. It costs $29.99 per day for one device. You can add a second device for an additional $15.99; discounted pricing is available for up to four devices. This package provides web surfing capabilities and access to email and social media apps (but not TikTok).

If you take advantage of the Free at Sea promotional cruise fare, you'll receive a number of free Unlimited Wi-Fi minutes, depending on the length of your sailing.

The Premium Package starts at $39.99 per day per device (add a second device for $25.99 per day). This package features Unlimited Wi-Fi inclusions, as well as streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, TikTok and more. Discounted pricing is available for up to four devices. Guests can purchase an upgraded package before they sail or on board the ship.

Loyal cruisers and members of the Latitudes Rewards Program receive discounts of up to 25% on Wi-Fi packages based on their membership tier level. Benefits begin with a 15% discount at the Platinum level.

It's also possible to rent a laptop on the ship or surf the internet at one of the workstations in the fleet's 24-hour Internet cafe. Any internet package can be used with a laptop rental or at the onboard cafes.

Oceania Cruises

Price: complimentary to $9.99 per day.

Starlink service is currently available on Oceania Cruises ' Vista and Riviera, with a fleetwide expansion of the service to be completed by the end of 2024.

The line provides free, unlimited internet access with all cruise fares. Guests can log on to the internet throughout the ship, including in their cabins or suites or in public spaces and outdoor areas. They can also use the computers at the Oceania@Sea Internet Center on board their ships if they don't have their own device.

Two free logins are provided per cabin or suite for use on one device at a time. Plans that include access for additional devices can be purchased on the ship, and an upgrade to streaming services for movies or music is available at a cost of $9.99 per day.

Princess Cruises

celebrity cruises premium wifi review

Price: Starting at $24.99 per day

Princess Cruises claims the "fastest Wi-Fi at sea" with its MedallionNet technology , with download speeds of 12.6 Mbps and upload speeds of 1.9 Mbps. Carnival Corporation and Princess achieve this speed by working with SES Networks, a leading satellite connectivity provider.

With this internet access, you can check email, chat, surf the internet, FaceTime with your kids and pets, post photos and stream shows and music with speeds similar to what you might have at home.

Guests can choose from one-device to four-device packages starting at $24.99 per day that you can purchase through the MedallionClass app pre-cruise. Discounted pricing is available for up to four devices. Platinum and Elite members of Princess Cruises' loyalty program receive a 50% discount on plans that will appear as an onboard credit on the ship.

Guests can also purchase either a bundled Princess Plus or Princess Premier package, which are priced at about a 50% savings of the overall value when purchased pre-cruise through the MedallionClass app. Princess Plus includes a beverage package (with alcoholic drinks up to $15 each), Wi-Fi for a single device and crew gratuities. The cost for this plan is $60 per person, per day.

With Princess Premier, guests will receive the Premier Beverage Package (with drinks up to $20 each), Wi-Fi for multiple devices, crew appreciation, two evenings of specialty dining, a photo package and a chance to win prizes like a free onboard wine tasting, dinner at the Chef's Table or even a free cruise or cash. This package is priced at $80 per person a day.

With the latter option, you can also share the Wi-Fi availability with other passengers in the cabin who do not have Princess Premier.

Regent Seven Seas

Starlink service is currently available on Regent Seven Seas Cruises' Seven Seas Mariner and Seven Seas Grandeur , with a fleetwide expansion of the service to be completed by the end of 2024.

The line offers complimentary unlimited internet access throughout its fleet. Passengers have wireless access in most of the suites on the ships. However, bandwidth-heavy applications such as Netflix, Skype, YouTube and VPN are not included in the free plans.

One login is provided per suite for use with one device at a time. Gold and higher-level members of the Seven Seas Society and guests in Concierge Suites and higher receive up to four logins/devices per suite.

If guests are interested in streaming, they can pay for a higher-bandwidth plan at the cost of $9.99 per day.

Royal Caribbean

celebrity cruises premium wifi review

Price: Starting at $25.99 per day

Royal Caribbean touts its Voom internet as the "fastest internet at sea," with speeds six times faster than Wi-Fi plans you'll find on other cruise ships worldwide. However, some ships have been upgraded to Starlink service, with a fleetwide expansion of the technology to be completed by the end of 2024.

Royal Caribbean discontinued its basic Surf package and currently offers one plan — the Surf + Stream package. With it, passengers can surf the internet, send and receive emails, use messenger apps, live stream and post on social media and stream music and movies while on board the ship. The plan (for one device) starts at $25.99, and unlimited voyage packages for one device are $19.99 per day.

Passengers can receive a discount by purchasing packages that bundle a drink package with internet access.

Crown & Anchor Society members receive special discounts on pricing ranging from one day of Wi-Fi free to Diamond level members and two free days for Diamond Plus and Pinnacle members.

Price: Complimentary to $19.95 per day

Seabourn provides complimentary, unlimited access to the internet to guests during their voyages. The complimentary Surf Wi-Fi Package provides unlimited access on one device per person. This plan includes general web browsing, email access and posting to social media accounts.

Should passengers need faster speeds and more bandwidth, the Stream Wi-Fi Package is an upgraded option that allows up to four devices and offers additional connectivity such as video streaming, internet calling and VPN/cloud storage.

Diamond-level members of Seabourn Club and guests booked in Penthouse and Premium suites receive the Stream plan on a complimentary basis. Passengers in other suite categories can upgrade for a charge of $19.95 per day.

Price: Complimentary to $29.99 per day

All Silversea Cruises vessels feature Starlink connectivity on board. Silversea's standard internet access is complimentary in Vista and Verandah Suites, while premium Wi-Fi (the line's fastest Wi-Fi connection) is complimentary for guests booked in Medallion, Silver, Royal, Grand and Owner's Suites.

On the expedition ships, the level of internet access is also determined by the suite category, except for Silver Origin, which has complimentary standard Wi-Fi for all guests. For guests on Silversea's full world cruises or Grand Voyages, all passengers receive complimentary premium internet access for the sailing.

On all voyages — and with both types of internet access — the complimentary Wi-Fi is unlimited for two devices used at the same time.

If guests have standard internet access but want to upgrade to the premium plan, the price is $29.99 per day (covering two devices connected at the same time).

Price: Complimentary

All of Viking 's ocean ships offer complimentary Wi-Fi. Guests can connect to the internet via a personal device such as a smartphone or laptop, or they can use one of the ship's computers in the Business Center, located on Deck 1. The line relies on a VSAT satellite terminal — what Viking says is "one of the best solutions" for internet connection at sea. VSAT can provide wide variances in speed depending on weather and location.

Viking's expedition ships and river ships in Europe, Egypt and the Mississippi also feature free internet access. On Mekong River cruises in Southeast Asia, the line advises that the best option is to use the public computers on the ship to stay connected, but the internet service is limited throughout the region. Viking also asks that guests limit large uploads, downloads and streaming so that Wi-Fi is more accessible for everyone on the sailing.

Premium WiFi Question

Cool Cruiser

I'm sailing as a single on the Constellation later in Feb.  I have pre-ordered premium WiFI for 1.  I have sailed a lot but have never ordered premium wifi as I have always used the excuse of "no access" to avoid working while on a cruise (it worked for 20 years).  As now I'm semi-retired and no one will actively being trying to track me down and I will need to check in with my significant other, question is if it truly one device or one device at a time.  Reason for asking is that I use both an iphone and an ipad.  Is premium really linked to one device or as long as I don't do it simultaneously can I use the same subscription on both devices?

Celebrity Pass: VIP Boarding, Speedy Wi-Fi, and More for a Daily Fee

Picture of Andrea Santillan

Andrea Santillan

  • November 7, 2023

Passengers with upcoming itineraries with Celebrity Cruises have begun receiving an offer for a ‘Celebrity Pass.’ The VIP pass provides priority embarkation and debarkation, upgraded Wi-Fi access, and more for $32.99 daily.

Celebrity Equinox cruise ship

The notification sent to booked passengers and in the company’s loyalty program, Captain’s Club, reads, “On vacation, the little things can make a big difference. That’s why we’ve introduced the Celebrity Pass—your ticket to unrivaled convenience, exclusivity, and extraordinary experiences.”

It promises “a new level of VIP treatment, including premium amenities, and even more personalized service.”

Celebrity Pass Includes:

The program’s biggest draws are upgrades to the ship’s premium Wi-Fi for up to two devices per passenger, priority embarkation, priority debarkation at tender ports, an exclusive welcome lunch, waived room service fees, and reserved seating during formal Evening Chic nights.

Cruise Radio has yet to confirm if it’s available across the fleet or only on select voyages. We’ve learned through our tip line that it’s been offered on several reservations, and the price is consistent at $32.99 per day.

“It sounds like The Key”

oasis class ships meet up royal caribbean

If the Celebrity Pass sounds familiar, it should. Several cruisers couldn’t help but compare the Celebrity Pass to The Key, another special perks program that Royal Caribbean rolled out in 2018.

This doesn’t come as a surprise since Celebrity Cruises is its sister company under Royal Caribbean International.

The Key has almost the same benefits, including bag drop-off and fast-lane access to onboard activities. The price of The Key varies from over $20 to around $45 per person per day.

Almost like Faster to the Fun

grand turk cruise port carnival sunrise

Meanwhile, competitor Carnival Cruise Line has its own version of the program with Faster to the Fun (FTTF) . It essentially offers the same basic VIP features.

Its prices, scheduled to increase in 2024 , are based on the length of the cruise. The program will increase prices next year. Voyages over nine days will cost $189.95.

Ultimately, the decision to purchase (or not purchase) exclusive programs like these depends on the preferences of each passenger. Many cruisers get them for faster Wi-Fi access and priority embarkation, but not everyone finds them worth the extra expense.

Wi-Fi Changes & Updates FAQs Published on May 25, 2023

On May 25, Celebrity published a set of FAQs regarding "Wi-Fi Updates".  Celebrity has been communicating changes in this manner lately.  The problem for me is that you have to piece together what the change is based on the FAQs since it is not accompanied by an announcement that I could find.

It looks like a new pricing structure will be put into place and that Basic Wi-Fi will no longer be sold after Jun 1.  Now that I think about it, I recall CC members observing that Basic Wi-Fi offerings have disappeared from their Cruise Planner.  I just looked at my CP for my cruises and the Basic Wi-Fi option is gone along with the Basic to Premium Voucher option.

The Premium Wi-Fi pricing table in Question 8 does not indicate if the pricing is per day, but I think it is.  MCC must be the abbreviation for My Celebrity Cruise (see Question 11) but I don't know what it means..

Anyway, here are the Wii-Fi Updates FAQs: link

It looks like MCC is the pricing if you purchase pre-cruise in the cruise planner.

It’s nice to see prices go down on something for a change.

The pricing in my Cruise Planner looks cheaper than FAQ #8.

So Starlink improvements in overall bandwidth + lotsa passengers with Premium Wi-Fi = ??

Jim_Iain

While I don't have any knowledge more than what you posted it appears to be a Travel Agent message -    I read it as a daily rate -  in the bullet 9 -

9. DOES CELEBRITY CRUISES OFFER PROGRESSIVE PREMIUM WI-FI DISCOUNTS PER SAILING LENGTH? No, the per day price of Wi-Fi remains the same with all cruise lengths

Found item 12 rather interesting and can see some irritated passengers

12. CAN CRUISE RATE ONLY GUESTS PURCHASE BASIC WI-FI? No, only Premium Wi-Fi will be available for purchase beginning June 1, 2023

Did you notice item 7

WHAT IF A GUEST PURCHASED PREMIUM WI-FI BEFORE JUNE 1, 2023?

Guests are re-imbursed the difference via On Board Credit onboard. Process to refund and charge at new rate: • The Store Manager processes refunds on the first day of the cruise using the PCP participation report • Refunds are in the form of On Board Credit based on the difference in what the guest paid and the new price onboard • A welcome letter is placed in the cabin of affected guests

Just to clarify, I found this FAQ on Celebrity's trade website (for travel agents/planners) which is at https://www.thecelebritycommitment.com/

I asked myself the same thing--will this be the case for AI bookings after Jun 1?

1 minute ago, mahdnc said:   Just to clarify, I found this FAQ on Celebrity's trade website (for travel agents/planners) which is at https://www.thecelebritycommitment.com/

Understand.    I find it interesting that the current rates for my November Edge Cruise are less than what is published in the FAQ

image.png.140f8c38f7bc5263e367ce546ad15807.png

If you do a mock booking, the AI references “Unlimited Premium Wifi”.  Will be interesting to see how this impacts the actual usage of passengers.

PER  Item 10 and 11

10. WILL ALL INCLUDED GUESTS STILL RECEIVE BASIC WI-FI ONBOARD? Yes, guest that booked the All Included rate will receive Basic Wi-Fi.

11. CAN I UPGRADE MY BASIC WI-FI INCLUDED PLAN TO A PREMIUM WI-FI PLAN? Yes, this can be done pre-cruise using My Celebrity Cruise - $7.99 per person per day or once Onboard at the iLounge - $9.99 per person per day. Pre-Cruise pricing is always lower than onboard

For our Conny Nov 2023 TA the price is $24.50 CAD a day ($18.34 USD) and a 20% discount

but for our Equinox Nov 2024 TA the price is $25.56 CAD a day ( $19.12 USD ) and a 20% discount

no option for upgrading

I think you need an  Ouija board to understand Celebrity pricing

Don't you think it's a bit tricky using what you paid in CAD, converting it to USD (perhaps without knowing the exact exchange rate on the date of purchase) then comparing the different USD rates as though they 'ought' to be the same?

BTW, on your 'recommendation' I ordered a SIM from SIM Corner Canada for a recent trip and was very pleased.  Thanks.

No , I don’t

a cent or two difference on  on the exchange rate on $20 dollars will not make that much of a difference

It is also a reference for our American friends to show the price in USD

Hmm... not on the mock booking I just did on the UK website,  it still references 'Basic WiFi' for AI....

This is consistent with #10 on the published FAQ....

Yes.  The exchange rate used for the two separate purchases was the same; looks like it's simply a different pricing structure.

We had the new premium Starlink Wi-Fi on our June 4th Equinox cruise, and it was excellent service compared to past cruises with premium service. Never lost connection and I was able to send and receive phone calls and text messages with my Samsung Wi-Fi calling on my phone. I also was able to use video calling with the same excellent results.

I just did a mock booking for the Ascent (I'm in the US) and the AI mentions basic WiFi.

Based on the FAQ 10, I had assumed AI would continue to include only the basic WiFi.

Good to know.  We are on her in October.  I originally bought basic for 2 devices, but upgraded to premium for two people during the Memorial Day sale.  I'm skeptical, but the site took my money.  Will have to confirm onboard that I have wifi for both people, and not just 2 devices.

9 hours ago, mahdnc said: The pricing in my Cruise Planner looks cheaper than FAQ #8.

It is still cheaper than what I paid for on my last Celebrity cruise. I'm not surprised they may still have cruise planner sales that bring the price down further.

Although, logging into my own cruise planner, I see the pricing I'm used to (which is higher than 8).  The next cruise where I have an opportunity to buy Wi-Fi isn't until January of 2025 though.  IT must not have gotten around to later cruises yet.....

2 minutes ago, kywildcatfanone said: I'm skeptical, but the site took my money.  Will have to confirm onboard that I have wifi for both people, and not just 2 devices.

All Wi-Fi packages are per device (not per person).  So having a 2 device plan is essentially the same as 2 people having their own 1 device plan (unless you mean you bought 2 device plans for each of you).  You just share a login in the first case and have separate logins in the second case.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about it, but I bought basic wifi and it was cheaper to buy a 2 device plan than buy one device for two people, so I did that.  Then on the Memorial Day sale, the only option it gave me was to add for each person, and not upgrade my existing 2 device plan.  It works out the same, I paid for two, and I now have two upgraded, but it wasn't like I upgraded exactly what I bought originally.  I suspect it won't matter, but I am a bit nervous about it.  I have the documentation saved for each purchase, so hopefully it won't be an issue.

We had the 'Basic' Starlink WiFi on Eclipse in January and it was every bit as limited as the old 'Basic' WiFi unfortunately.

No question that it is an improvement for Premium, that seems to be well received by all, but Celebrity have kept the 'Basic' service locked down to such a low bandwidth that we couldn't even load this site...
