Genting Dream Cruise All-Inclusive Restaurants (Free of Charge) • The Lido & Dream Dining Rooms

Genting dream all-inclusive restaurants (free of charge).

Up to 6 meals a day are included when cruising on board Resorts World Cruises’ Genting Dream. Here are the dining options you will have for almost 24 hours without any additional charge while cruising, whether on the move on high seas or even when docked at destinations.

The Lido • Halal, Vegetarian, Jain International Buffet

dream cruise genting food

The Lido on Deck 16 is Genting Dream’s main buffet restaurant, and certified Halal by OIC (Organisation of Islamic Corporation) and SMIIC (Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standards.

dream cruise genting food

A sign is displayed in the queue to enter The Lido to not bring any alcoholic beverages into the Halal area.

dream cruise genting food

As compared with the World Dream with only 1 buffet line by the entrance, the whole port (left) side of The Lido is now a Halal line on the Genting Dream, but divided into local and international cuisines.

dream cruise genting food

A wide variety of food for everyone is available in The Lido now that the whole port-side buffet line is Halal-certified, so all passengers have more food options without the worry of mixing cutlery.

dream cruise genting food

Drinks are also available for self-service.

dream cruise genting food

Inclusive cold drinks revolve around syrup juices.

dream cruise genting food

Coffee and milk are available from large dispensers, which is especially useful now that the ship operates at full capacity with no more social gathering restrictions.

dream cruise genting food

Cutlery is now available from self-service stations.

dream cruise genting food

There is still a bar in The Lido, but this is to be consumed on the aft and starboard sides of The Lido.

dream cruise genting food

The starboard (right) side of The Lido serves up Indian Vegetarian and Jain food, certified by Global Vegetarian Certification Services (GVCS).

dream cruise genting food

With a crowd of more than 3000 on board, The Lido does get busy but it can still cope well for finding a table reasonably fast with the space available. Food are also available on multiple lines so the crowd is spread out around The Lido.

dream cruise genting food

A small sample of the food offered at The Lido. I didn’t take much as this was a late afternoon “lunch” and dinner was going to happen for me soon.

dream cruise genting food

If heading down for an early shore excursion, The Lido is also open for an early morning start to your day for a quick grab-and-go plated breakfast.

dream cruise genting food

A wide variety of local and international breakfast options are available on the various buffet lines at The Lido.

dream cruise genting food

A butter machine is also installed now to plop roundels of butter on to your plate.

My small selection of a quick breakfast from The Lido as I was heading off for a shore excursion to Phuket .

The Lido Outdoor Snacks Corner

dream cruise genting food

During gaps in main meal times (morning tea, afternoon tea, and supper), The Lido Outdoor Snacks Corner on Deck 16 serves up light bites for those still hungry.

dream cruise genting food

Snack food is available during afternoon tea, but some breakfast options are available for morning tea for those who woke up late and local favourites such as porridge are available during supper as well.

Dream Dining Room Lower • Western Semi-Buffet Restaurant

dream cruise genting food

Dream Dining Room Lower is an inclusive Western restaurant which operates in a semi=buffet style.

dream cruise genting food

Orders are taken at the table for main courses, but everything else is found on buffet lines.

dream cruise genting food

Breads, salads, and soups are now self-service from the Dream Dining Room Lower buffet line.

dream cruise genting food

I was surprised that my steak doneness was requested by the waiter at Dream Dining Room Lower as I had expected that the food at inclusive restaurants would be done in 1 style.

dream cruise genting food

Dessert was also done buffet-style at the buffet line.

dream cruise genting food

A mix of cakes and local hot desserts are available.

dream cruise genting food

If dining during the safety demonstration, the waiters double up to point out the safety features and procedures on board the Genting Dream.

dream cruise genting food

Breakfast is a full buffet at Dream Dining Room Lower with an international menu, similar to The Lido.

dream cruise genting food

A variety of local and international cuisines are available at Dream Dining Room Lower. Do note that the buffet line at Dream Dining Room Lower is not Halal and includes pork.

dream cruise genting food

A small selection of western breakfast for me this early morning.

dream cruise genting food

Omelettes and sunny side up eggs can be ordered through the waiters.

dream cruise genting food

For the last dinner of the cruise, I went back to Dream Dining Room Lower as well, since I prefer Western food.

dream cruise genting food

I had a beef tenderloin which was very tender, nicely pink, and can be cut easily with a regular knife.

dream cruise genting food

The vegetarian option of Spinach Lasagna was also good with generous fillings and sauce.

dream cruise genting food

Dessert was also local hot dessert and cakes from the buffet line.

Dream Dining Room Upper • Chinese Set Menu Restaurant

dream cruise genting food

Dream Dining Room Upper is Genting Dream’s inclusive Chinese restaurant served in set menus.

dream cruise genting food

I had only tried Dream Dining Room Upper once on this cruise for a sit-down breakfast.

dream cruise genting food

For a solo cruiser, meals were portioned out nicely for 1 person’s share, but I thought it was still a bit generous for an early start to the day.

dream cruise genting food

Chinese dim sum and carbs were served for breakfast with noodles, congee, glutinous rice, dumplings, and the popular golden egg yolk bao which every other table seems to be ordering extra servings of.

BONUS: Blue Lagoon • Chinese Set Menu Restaurant (Peak)

dream cruise genting food

Blue Lagoon is a specialty restaurant serving up a la carte local fare. However, during peak periods , Blue Lagoon doubles up as an inclusive restaurant serving up a Chinese Set Menu which will be the same as Dream Dining Room Upper. Check your RW Daily for details on when Blue Lagoon will operate as an inclusive restaurant.

With a variety of cuisines and meal times catered by Genting Dream, it’s hard to go hungry when on board the ship. I personally like the western mains served up by Dream Dining Room Lower, but many others prefer the Chinese food at Dream Dining Room Upper. Perhaps it’s for everyone to find out their favourites with the many meal times and menus offered throughout the cruise.

The Digital Travellers

India’s leading b2b travel trade digital media, a look at genting dream’s food offerings onboard.

  • Product Reviews

Being one of the most popular cruises in Asia, Resorts World Cruises was officially launched in June 2022 with the theme ‘A Resort Cruising At Sea’. Genting Dream, the flagship cruise of Resorts World Cruises has over 35 restaurants and bars spread across 18 decks of the ship. For Indian travellers, it’s a perfect cruise offering a mix of Indian cuisine with international flavours and options.

Genting Dream is not the first cruise ship to serve halal food, but it’s the first with an internationally halal-certified kitchen with an OIC/SMIIC standard halal-friendly certificate. This is based on OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) and SMIIC (The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standards. The cruise also holds a vegetarian certification by Global Vegetarian Certification Services. The Lido which is the free-buffet restaurant on the ship provides an extensive range of international cuisines including vegetarian and Jain food options. For instance, The Dream Dining Room(upper) is dedicated to serving Chinese set meals, whereas the Dream Dining (lower) serves semi-buffet western meals.

We even went behind the scenes and discovered that there are dedicated timings and lifts to deliver the food. From the way the food is prepared and delivered, to the way utensils are washed after — everything is segregated so there is no chance of cross-contamination at all. So, Jain travellers can cruise and eat with peace of mind onboard Genting Dream.

If you are not convinced, we take you on a virtual tour of this ship by Chef Reinhard Mammes, Executive Chef, Genting Dream.

Food onboard a cruise ship

Cruise guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for free on a cruise. This includes access to all complimentary food venues onboard. Main dining restaurants feature versatile menus that cater to a variety of tastes and dietary preferences, which comes included in your cruise fare.

Genting Dream also has exclusive dining venues, only accessible to passengers in Dream Palace suites. Food can also be delivered to your cabin 24/7 if you are staying at a Palace suite. For balcony and interior cabins, it comes at an additional cost.

You can bring your own food onboard — including snack food you like to have on hand and items you pick up in port. You can’t bring raw meat onboard, but pretty much anything else is fair game. However, there’s so much food onboard that, unless you’re very picky or have a dietary restriction, there’s not much need to bring your own food. Moreover, Genting Dream restaurants pretty much always have vegetarian options; low-salt, low-carb, gluten-free and vegan food is either available and noted or can be prepared with advance notice.

Feasting on the High Seas: Resorts World Cruises Dining Delights

dream cruise genting food

Written by Katherine

Genting dream | resorts world cruises | singapore.

Welcome back to part two of the Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream series~! In this second part of the series, I will be covering the dining options that you can find on board the Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream. Similar to what I have done with Dream Cruises, I have chosen a speciality restaurant to try out its food and service. Without further ado, let’s check out what you can eat on board the cruise~! ⁽⁽◝( • ω • )◜⁾⁾

✨ BEFORE YOU GO ✨

In case you have missed out on the previous parts of the series, you might want to check out the following posts as well:

  • My Experience of Staying at the Balcony Room and Our Disastrous Embarkation
  • All the Activities on Board Resorts World Cruises!

Inclusive Dining Options

Speciality restaurants, using the resorts world cruises portal for dining information, nominal fee for a second inclusive meal, is reservation needed for resorts world cruises’ dining, resorts world cruises’ dining package, dream dining room – how does it fare this time, must-haves at the lido, better be early on the last day for breakfast, snacks & supper options, full menu of lobby cafe and blue lagoon, superb service at the silk road, all about the dishes, other things worth mentioning, full menu of silk road, menus from other speciality restaurants, photo gallery, singapore-related posts, resorts world cruises genting dream dining options.

Since we were staying in the Balcony Stateroom, we assumed that the inclusive dining options on the Resorts World Cruises would be similar to Dream Cruises. That means the Dream Dining Room Lower and Upper as well as The Lido are inclusive. While preparing for this blog post, I read through all the RW Daily I gathered from the past few days. And O.M.G., I realised Blue Lagoon and Function 8 also have inclusive dinners! (⊙_⊙) I blame Resorts World Cruises for not putting their RW Daily in our room on the first day! (#`Д´)

So if you are reading my posts, you are safe. And just in case, I have included the inclusive restaurants and opening hours below for your reference, subject to differences and changes.

Besides the inclusive restaurants, there are also a lot of speciality restaurants if you are willing to pay for your meals on board. I have included the speciality restaurants and their opening hours below for your reference, subject to differences and changes.

I would say most of the restaurants are the same as what was on board the Dream Cruises with a few additional choices such as the Bistro and the Lido Outdoor Hot Pot & Grill. We also decided to try Silk Road this time since we have tried a few others on Dream Cruises. I will talk more about this later~! (´• ω •`)

Besides the speciality restaurants, there is also a wide selection of bars and lounges if you want to drink and chill. I have included two bars below for your reference as they included snack options. All other bars and lounges would be mentioned under part three of the series!

Besides all the useful information I have mentioned in the first part of the series , you can also find all the dining information on the Resorts World Cruises portal.

Screenshots taken from the Resorts World Cruises portal on the dining options

I don’t remember this being a thing previously but a nominal amount will be charged for a second meal during the same meal period for the inclusive dining options. This means that if you already had lunch at the Dream Dining Room Lower, you would need to pay a nominal amount to have lunch at let’s say, The Lido, on the same day. Since they scan your key card before dining, you cannot cheat the system. ( ´ ω ` )

Note that this does not apply to speciality restaurants. That means that you can have lunch at Umi Uma and go to The Lido to have lunch again on the same day. We went to The Lido for desserts after our meal at the Silk Road so this is tried and tested. (´ ∀ ` *)

No reservation is required for the inclusive restaurants and everything is based on a first-come-first-served basis. Simply put, you just have to queue for inclusive restaurants. (´・ᴗ・ ` ) Reservations for the speciality restaurants can be made by calling their hotline or you could simply approach the restaurant’s reception during their opening hours.

Another simpler way is to use the portal! You just have to choose the restaurant that you want and scroll all the way down to see the “Make a reservation” tab. From there, you can choose your number of pax as well as your preferred date and time. Nice and easy! You can even use it to locate the restaurant. See, I told you the portal is very useful. ヾ(´ ▽ ` )

Screenshots taken from the Resorts World Cruises portal on how to make a dining reservation using the portal

Anyway, as compared to the Cruise to Nowhere, I think there were fewer passengers reserving the speciality restaurants, especially when we had the option to disembark on the second day. But it is still advisable to make a reservation since you don’t know how popular the restaurants might be. Better safe than sorry~! (*¯︶¯*)

If you are dining at the speciality restaurants on board the Resorts World Cruises, it would be good to consider buying the Pay as You Go – Extra F&B Credits . This promotion is only available until a certain time so make sure to make the purchase before that. Once you know roughly how much you might be spending, just head over to one of the bars or speciality restaurants to make the purchase.

Note that the credits are non-refundable and cannot be used with promotional items. A sticker would be pasted on your key card so that staff would recognise that you are using the F&B credits. And by right, they would also advise you if you happen to order a promotional item.

Key card showing a sticker on it if you purchase a Resorts World Cruises dining package with them

Also, depending on the staff, they would usually let you know the remaining credits you have. We went to Zouk and paid for the drinks using our credits but the staff did not inform hubs of the balance. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to check with reception. We were wondering how tough could it be if the system captures everything. Eventually, we realised the calculation was actually done manually. I guess the restaurants and bars can only calculate for you if you buy something from them. Also, maybe Zouk was too dark for the staff to do any calculations hence no balance was given to us. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

After a terrible experience with the Dream Dining Room on the Dream Cruises , I was reluctant to have breakfast there. But for your sake, I decided to give it a go! (-ω-、) This time, we went with the Chinese set menu at the Dream Dining Room Upper again. The menu just seems more interesting as compared to the International Buffet at the Dream Dining Room Lower. Also, my parents would prefer to have Chinese food so that was the choice we went with. (´• ω •`)

Surprisingly Good Food from the Chinese Set Menu

Anyway, we didn’t have to wait too long until we got a table assigned to us. We waited for a while and all the food from the Chinese set menu was being served. And surprise surprise, the breakfast was actually one of the best meals we had from an inclusive restaurant. LIKE WHAT!? (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

The interior of the Dream Dining Room on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Honestly, everything was good! I was definitely caught by surprise after that lousy meal we had on Dream Cruises. Even my parents gave their approval. ٩(◕‿◕。)۶ The best of the lot was the Deep Fried Golden Silk, which we have no idea what is it made of. The inside tasted like mochi while the outer layer is similar to that of the crab claw you see in buffets or restaurants. It was more sweet than savoury. A really surprisingly nice dish.

The breakfast set that we had at the Dream Dining Room on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

The only ambiguous item was the steamed red bean paste bao. Or what we thought to be the steamed red bean paste bao but turned out to be a kaya bao? Haha! (◎ ◎)ゞ Another thing to highlight was the service. I think the staff was overwhelmed hence they held off the queue. We asked for chilli sauce twice and it did not appear even at the end of the meal. ┐(‘~`;)┌

The steamed red bean paste bao that looks more like kaya bao at the Dream Dining Room on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Be Early to Avoid Disappointment!

We went to the Dream Dining Room Upper on the second day and there was a long queue when we arrived at around 8.30 AM or so. After queuing for a while, a staff came out to block off the queue behind us, probably to manage the crowd. She told the remaining guests to come back at 9.15 AM, which is 15 minutes before the closing time. (・・;)ゞ I think a lot of them would just go to The Lido for breakfast instead. But if you are coming here for breakfast, better come earlier!

The Lido, International Buffet by the Sea

Since what Dream Cruises offered was so similar to Resorts World Cruises, I thought the food quality would be similar. Let’s just say the variety of food options was still there but there were more hits and misses during the few meals we had at The Lido. (´-ω-`)

As with Dream Cruises, Halal and Indian Vegetarian options are available in the buffet. There honestly wasn’t much to highlight. The speciality item on the first night was roasted beef and the smaller pieces tasted better than the chunky ones. A lot of people were queuing for them since there was only a section for the speciality item.

People queuing up for the roast beef at The Lido on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

I highly recommend having the cakes and fruits while at The Lido. We tried all their cakes and about 95% of them were really good. Even the kuehs at the Halal section were quite nice as well. The fruits were also generally quite sweet and tasty. (b ᵔ▽ᵔ)b Interestingly, there was also an ice cream machine! Hubs made a really nicely shaped one for me though I ended up not finishing it because it tasted pretty average. Haha! (*/ω\)

Some of the cakes and desserts we had at The Lido on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

We had breakfast at The Lido on the last day. Since we would be arriving in Singapore at 10 AM, we know that the majority of the guests would be having breakfast at The Lido around the same time. So we decided to wake up earlier to have breakfast and that was probably the best decision we have ever made. We didn’t have to queue too long before getting a table at around 7.30 AM and there was already quite a crowd inside the dining area. By the time we were done, there was a super mega-long queue outside. So yes, if you don’t want to wait, wake up earlier~! (´• ω •`)

The long queue outside The Lido on the last day for breakfast on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Anyway, based on the signage on every table, dining is limited to one hour. But we have never been chased out by them before so probably this will only be in effect during super crowded hours, such as the last day’s breakfast hour. ( ´ ω ` )

I didn’t go for either as we were too full from our lunch to have snacks. We checked out supper on the first night and it was way too crowded. So we skipped that and moved on. Haha! I am guessing it should probably be the usual fries, nuggets and what-nots. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Lobby Cafe and Blue Lagoon – Light Snacks & Supper

Previously on Dream Cruises, we tried the Singapore Laksa from the Lobby Cafe and it was really delicious. This time, we went for something light from their All-Time Favourites menu, kaya toast. To be honest, it was not too bad but nothing beats the ones at Yakun. So don’t put your hopes too high! (´ ∀ ` *)

The Kaya Toast from the All-Time Favourites at the Lobby Cafe on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Besides the Lobby Cafe, we also managed to have supper at the Blue Lagoon. Our in-room dining on Dream Cruises was actually from Blue Lagoon and the food portion was big and tasted quite good as well. So this time, we decided to try eating at the restaurant. We were still not hungry yet but I pulled my parents along to eat after leaving the Zouk Night Club. \(★ω★)/

We ordered pork congee, Singapore Hokkien mee as well as fried keow teow. And everything was ON POINT. O.M.G. We have been missing out on some delicious food! Blue Lagoon’s food portion was HUGE and the food was super delicious. I especially love the fried keow teow for the wok hei. I swear if there weren’t four of us, we probably couldn’t finish the food. (*/ω\)

For all you lovely people’s sake, I have taken photos of the menu at Lobby Cafe as well as Blue Lagoon for your reference. Click on each thumbnail to expand the image. (≧◡≦)

Silk Road – Dining Highlight of Our Resorts World Cruises Trip

Dining at the Silk Road was the highlight of our trip. Since my parents are used to having Chinese cuisine, we decided to have dinner on our last night at Silk Road. And I have to say, it was definitely a very worthy meal. (´ ω `♡)

The decorations of Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Since we dined at Umi Uma and Hot Pot on Dream Cruises previously, we thought that the food at Silk Road would be kind of overpriced. But we were wrong. The food at Silk Road was quite affordable for the quality and quantity of food served. The service we received was also top-notch and our staff attending to our table was also really attentive and friendly. As mentioned earlier, we cannot use the F&B credits on promotional items. After noting the sticker on hubs’ key card, she reminded us of this and suggested alternatives for our order. Too bad I didn’t get her name as her service was so amazing. She even offered to take a group photo for us when I was taking a photo of my parents. (´• ω •`) ♡

A photo of hubby and I with my parents and the interior of Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Anyway, we ordered the Two Courses Peking Duck (Half), two bowls of Hot and Sour Seafood Soup, Fried French Beans and Claypot Braised Pork Belly. Everything tasted sooooooooooooooooooooo good except for the duck meat, which was a bit tough as we chose to stir fry it as the second course from the Peking Duck. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Peking Duck skin and wrap. I don’t remember how much it cost to have this item but it only cost us 38 SGD! Oh boy, I could have more. (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

The Peking Duck dish that we had at Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Another of our favourites was the claypot braised pork belly. The quantity was a lot and it has a slight hint of spiciness to it. The overall umami was ON POINT. As I said, everything that we ordered was on point and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. The cost of soup on the menu is per bowl so order based on the number of bowls you need. We ordered two bowls of soup for sharing since we had a lot of food. So everything adds up to quite a nice quantity for us. Overall, we paid 108 SGD for everything, excluding the 18% service charge. (´• ω •`)ノ

Other dishes we had at Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

The rice, tea, as well as peanuts (appetisers), were free. We only had two bowls of rice since we did not want to overeat. Haha! But it was nice to know that these items come free with our meal so we did not have to incur additional costs. Unless you want to have the special tea from their menu, drink to your heart’s content! (*♡∀♡)

There was also a huge screen and stage in front of us and they were showing some China programs before they started to show videos from Li Ziqi . That was nice and a good way for us to enjoy our meal while watching her cook. My parents definitely enjoyed it a lot. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

The big screen at Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

I captured the full menu of Silk Road but please pardon my phone’s shadow. The lighting in there wasn’t the best. Click on each thumbnail to expand the image. ♡( ◡‿◡ )

Besides the menu from Silk Road, I also managed to capture the menu from Umi Uma, Bistro and Red Lion for your reference. Click on each thumbnail to expand the image.(*^^*)♡

I have compared the price of Umi Uma from this trip to the one we had at Dream Cruises. The price is the same except for the 18% service charge. So you could probably still refer to my old blog post for restaurants I did not feature here. I did not see the prices for The Lido’s Hot Pot & Grill and Gelateria was always NOT OPENED. I also forgot to take a photo of the menu at the Crystal Life Cuisine so you are on your own for these places! (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Genting Dream Cruise to Nowhere Review – Part 3: All Inclusive Dining

Please share this article if you think it's awesome!

  • Facebook 65

There are 2 types of people on a cruise. The first one doesn’t mind paying extra for specialty restaurants. The second one doesn’t want to spend a dime on food because, “Isn’t food included in the trip? Why pay extra?”

Ladies and gentlemen, I belong to the second group.

In this article, I’ll share my experience eating in complimentary restaurants as well as tips on how to get the best bang for your bucks time.

Genting Dream Cruise to Nowhere (2021) Series Part 1: Reservation, ART Test, Boarding Part 2: Balcony Stateroom Part 3: All Inclusive Dining Part 4: Activities and Shows Part 5: Tips for FOMO Travelers

PS: During my visit in 2021, the ship was called World Dream . However, they changed name to Resort World Cruise in 2022. Just want you to know that they’re interchangeable =)

Where can I eat for free?

There are 4 places you can eat for free in World Dream. They are:

Dream Dining Room – Upper Deck (Chinese)

Dream dining room – lower deck (western), the lido (international buffet).

  • The Lido Outdoor Snack Corner

Only The Lido is Halal, the rest are not.

At the time of my cruise, we are only allowed to eat at 1 restaurant for free in a certain meal period; if we eat at 2 different places in the same meal period, a nominal fee (SGD 15) will be charged. This rule doesn’t apply to the Snack Corner.

For example: if I eat breakfast at Lido (the buffet), I can’t have another breakfast at Dream Dining Room, but I can have snacks at Lido Outdoor Snack Corner during breakfast period.

The dine-in regulation on the cruise follows Singapore’s dining regulation. If the rule in Singapore only allows groups of 2 to dine-in, then the same will be applied on the cruise.

From the reviews I’ve read and watched online, it seems like there is a consensus that the Chinese Dream Dining Room serves pretty decent food compared to other complimentary restaurants. Therefore, I told hubby that we should spend most of our time eating at Chinese DDR and forget about other places.

Dinner at Chinese DDR

We had our first dinner and our first breakfast at Chinese DDR. On our first dinner, we went to DDR quite late (about 7pm) and the restaurant was already full. They offered us a slot at 7.45pm and we said ok, then they gave us a piece of paper that stated “7.45pm” and asked us to come back at 7.45pm. This is quite a good system actually, we don’t have to queue, so we can use our time for something more productive.

When we got seated, the server asked if we want everything in the menu. Of course we said yes, except the bean sprout. A while later, they served the appetizer, soup and main course. But they didn’t serve us any rice even though the menu has rice in it. But it’s okay, we don’t want to waste calories on rice anyway.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere - Day 1 - Chinese DDR Dinner

Verdict for Dinner at Chinese DDR : Only the pork rib soup is memorable. The deep fried chicken, steamed fish, prawn in sichuan broth, braised pork knuckle and green bean sago are forgettable.

Breakfast at Chinese DDR

The next day, we had breakfast at Chinese DDR. It was open quite early for breakfast, at 7am. Afraid that restaurant is full again, 10 minutes after we woke up, hubby quickly went there to queue for a slot. It turned out that the restaurant was not full at all, so there was no need to rush down to take the q number.

We had our breakfast at about 7.45am. To be honest, the breakfast menu sounded very yummy. Bao, dimsum, noodle and congee.. basically all my favorite breakfast items! Of course, we had to order everything on the menu.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere - Day 2 - Chinese DDR Breakfast

Verdict for Breakfast at Chinese DDR : Bao, spring roll and wanton are forgettable. Pork dumpling gave me trauma. I usually love mee taimak and congee at hawker centers, but over here, both of them as bland as the Chinese tea. Luckily soya sauce saved the congee, but the mee tai mak was not rescuable.

At this point, we were not sure what is edible anymore. Maybe I had too high expectation of Chinese DDR? I was too scared to step my feet on Chinese DDR again, yet I dreaded the food at other places because of the reviews I had read & watched.

But life must go on. We decided to brave it out and step out of our comfort zone and try the food at Western DDR and Lido.

We had our second dinner, second breakfast and third lunch at Western DDR.

Dinner at Western DDR

Dinner on Day 2 is our first foray into Western DDR. Similar to Chinese DDR, the Western DDR was quite popular during dinner time. When we went there, it was already full, so we had to take a queue number and come back again at our allocated slot.

Pro-Tip: They do allow people to enter 10 mins earlier than the allocated time, so do come early.

Another Pro-Tip: Early birds get the worm. If you go early, you may be able to score one of those rare window seats!

Similar to Chinese DDR, we can choose our preferred food from the menu, or we can ask them to serve everything in the menu. There were 3 choices of main course: pan fried fish fillet, honey glazed chicken and slow cooked pork collar. We asked one of the staff for recommendation and were told that the chicken and pork are great. So we went with that.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere - Day 2 - Western DDR Dinner

Verdict for Dinner at Western DDR : Exceed expectation! Salad was alright. Pumpkin soup was amazing. Chicken was so tender I almost couldn’t believe my luck. Pork was not my favorite but hubby said it was alright. Chocolate cake was not bad.

We definitely didn’t expect to be wowed by this dinner. We decided to come back again the next day for breakfast on Day 3.

Breakfast at Western DDR

We knew that the breakfast menu at Western DDR is quite boring (scrambled eggs, pancake, waffle, baked beans, etc) but we just wanted to try for the sake of having a variety.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere - Day 3 - Western DDR Breakfast (2)

Verdict for Breakfast at Western DDR : Nothing remarkable about the items in the menu. But, we do love the buttery bread which the servers keep in a bread basket and offer customers from time to time.

Lunch at Western DDR

For lunch on Day 3, we went to Western DDR again (3rd time in a row). The options for main course during lunch were fish, burger or meatball. We asked the same staff again for recommendation of main course and he said the meatball is great. So, both of us just ordered meatball. It came with a small portion of kimchi rice.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere - Day 2 - Western DDR Lunch (4)

Verdict for Lunch at Western DDR : Amazing! Following a staff recommendation never fails! We even asked for another serving of the meatball and ate until too full.

Pro-Tip: Ask the right staff for recommendation and you’ll have a great time. But you need to find the right staff who will tell the truth.

We ate at Lido for 4 times: lunch on Day 1 & 2, dinner on Day 3 and breakfast on Day 4. Let me just cut to the chase: in my opinion, lunch was standard, meanwhile, breakfast and dinner were surprisingly quite good!

Pro Tip: Do keep a lookout on special items that are not repeated at every counter, because these items are limited in quantity, such as: crème brulle, bao.

Lunch at The Lido

I had lunch twice at The Lido and I found them to be really standard.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere - The Lido - Lunch (1)

Dinner at The Lido

Dinner at The Lido was definitely much better than lunch. During my cruise, the theme was Japan. So, during dinner at The Lido, they served sushi and ramen. I wonder why they don’t serve Jap food during lunch too.

The sushi and ramen are enjoyable if you are not fussy. They also served a chicken rice (chicken and gravy are amazing, but rice is mushy).

Pro-Tip: don’t bother asking for window seat for dinner, you can practically see nothing outside at night.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere - Day 3 - The Lido Dinner Buffet

Breakfast at The Lido

The breakfast at Lido is surprisingly quite good in my opinion. The congee at Lido is much much better than the congee in Chinese DDR. The nasi lemak is quite good.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere - Day 4 - The Lido Breakfast Buffet

I love a good breakfast by the window. However, they rolled down the curtain during breakfast to avoid morning sun. I took the below photo at the unoccupied section, so curtain was up.

We had our final breakfast at Lido, by the time we finished eating, the ship has already docked and we got to see Marina Bay Sands from the window.

World Dream Cruise to Nowhere - The Lido International Buffet

Lido Outdoor Snack Corner

The snack corner is the place to go when you want to have a place to sit and to snack for free. It is located just outside The Lido. There are not many choices of food and drinks, but it’s certainly enough for snack time.

For food, we encountered fried beehoon, french fries, sausage, samosa. For drinks, it’s similar to The Lido, they have coffee, tea, water and juices.

The good thing about this snack corner is that, there is no limit of how many times you can visit in a day. It’s open 24/7, so if you wake up hungry in the middle of the night, you can still find free food.

Every restaurants have its pros and cons. For a well-rounded experience, you can consider going to different restaurant for each meal.

For 4D3N, you have 3 breakfast, 3 lunch and 3 dinner. Since there are 3 restaurants, you can get 9 combinations and you won’t eat the same meal in the same restaurant twice if you don’t want to.

For 3D2N, you’ll have to make compromise and choose the restaurant that’s likely to give you the best meal. If I may give you a recommendation, here it is: Day 1 Dinner: The Lido Day 2 Breakfast: The Lido Day 2 Lunch: Western DDR Day 2 Dinner: Western DDR Day 3 Breakfast: Chinese DDR or The Lido

By the way, don’t expect too much from the coffee at all-inclusive restaurants. To be honest, the 3-in-1 Nescafe in the cabin tastes better.

If you can afford specialty restaurants, by all means go for it. Better yet, if you can afford staying in The Palace, you can say goodbye to all-inclusive restaurants in this article, because you’ll get free meal at specialty restaurants and The Palace restaurant.

Have any suggestions or comments about the food in Dream Cruise complimentary restaurants? Let me know in the comment!

My check in time is 2pm for thursday cruising. Is lunch provided when I hv checkin on board.? Thank you.

Check the operating hours of Lido. I can't advise you the operating hours cos it keeps changing. If you can enter the restaurant before they close, then you can dine there. My gut feeling says you may not have enough time to eat lunch cos by the time you board the ship, it may already be 3pm+.

Hi WaiYee, hope you have a great cruise!

Monday 13th of June 2022

Thanks for being so informative, I love your succinct and straight-to-the-point style - you answered all the queries in my head!

I was trying to find out if the other restaurants were halal which would help me decide if palace suite was a worthy option.

Tuesday 14th of June 2022

Thank you, Nad!

Thursday 30th of December 2021

Thank you for sharing so much detail on dining. It is very informative. We are doing the 3N sailing in early Jan. We are not aware about the dining rule. Otherwise we would not book the ship. Do you remember if lido opens between meals? Also does the snack area serves salad? Thank in advance for your reply.

Friday 31st of December 2021

Hi Alice, thank you! Lido is not open between meals. The snack area doesn't serve salad during my time, it only serves finger foods (mostly fried items). If you need proper food between meals, you can go to one of the paid restaurants, like Blue Lagoon.

Monday 11th of October 2021

Thanks for the comprehensive post! It helped us in our preparations as well. Post-trip, we have also written a post on pre-cruise preparations for World Dream Cruise to Nowhere. Hope this helps those who are going on their next trip!

Happy Seacation!

GENTING DREAM: Cruise Guide for First-Timers

GENTING DREAM: Cruise Guide for First-Timers

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

The idea of going on a cruise may be intimidating for some because of the cost. Others dismiss it as a retiree’s holiday option. That may be true many years back, but this trend is gradually changing as years roll by.

The rise of more cruise lines, offering different options and encouraging healthy competition, resulted in relatively reasonable cruise rates. Some of these companies are going the extra mile to reach out to the growing number of travelers that are willing to spend on things or experiences that give good value for money by creating themed cruise ships and coming up with innovative itineraries. Genting Dream is one of those that cater to a wide range of guests — friends, families, couples, and even company incentive trips (or sales conference/meeting).

If you will be sailing with Genting Dream soon and it is your first time, this post is for you. We hope this will help you prepare and maximize your cruise experience. Here are the things you can expect.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Packing & Pre-Trip Preparations

dream cruise genting food

  • Travel Documents. You need to bring these documents: passport, a photocopy of your passport’s bio page, a copy of your cruise ticket, and a visa (if necessary). If you are a Philippine passport holder, no visa needed because the sail destinations are within Southeast Asia and the homeport is Singapore. If you want a hassle-free purchase transaction, you may present your credit card.
  • Clothes/Outfits. Come on. We know you want to snap as many photos as you can while onboard and during shore excursions. We normally pack two sets of clothes per day: casual for the day activities and smart casual or dressy outfits for the night events, especially if you plan to watch the evening shows or try the fine-dining specialty restaurants. The same goes for footwear. The important thing is that you are comfortable.
  • Toiletries. The stateroom comes with the toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, cotton buds, and tissues. It also has bath towels, hand towels, bathrobes, and hotel slippers.
  • Check-in Luggage. Each passenger can check in more than one luggage without incurring additional fees.
  • Onboard Currency. The default currency while on the ship is the Singapore Dollar (SGD).
  • Onboard Time. Genting Dream follows Singapore time (same as the Philippines) throughout the entire cruise.
  • Dream Cruise Mobile App. Download the App before getting onboard. You can use the App to view ship information, see the daily onboard schedule, check availability of onboard attractions and facilities. You can also use this to send IM to your shipmates, purchase your onboard WiFi package, and review your onboard account statement.

  • Embarkation Process. Genting Dream is homeporting in Singapore at the Marina Bay Cruise Center. Upon arrival at the terminal, look for the baggage drop area for the pieces of luggage you want to check-in. Prepare your travel documents for check-in. After that, you will pass through immigration and then security checks before you can finally board the ship.
  • Checking-in. You need to present your cruise ticket at the check-in counter to get your Access Card that will serve as your cabin keycard and your purchase card for onboard shopping and when dining at specialty restaurants. You can check-in online via the official website from 7 days up to 24 hours prior to the departure date. If you are going on a shore excursion, you also need to present the Access Card when getting off and returning to the ship. Do not lose this card. When you do, relax. Go to the Reception and they will print another one for you after answering SOP questions.
  • Surrender Passport. Upon boarding, the staff will take your passport. Do not panic. You will get it back after the cruise (before you check out).

WELCOME ABOARD!

ATTENTION! Changi Lounge is offering the Fly-Cruise Transfer service, which includes: Seamless bag transfer. End-to-end luggage transfer from Changi Airport Baggage Claim area to the Marina Bay Cruise Terminal to your stateroom! Your luggage will be waiting for you in your cabin. Advance cruise check-in at the lounge. You will have your documents processed in advance and get your Access Card here. Enjoy the lounge amenities. Complimentary buffet, various drink selections, free internet connection, desktop computers, and electrical outlets. It also has meeting rooms, a nap room, and a shower room. You can also explore Jewel while waiting. The lounge is located near the famous Rain Vortex and the Changi Experience Studio. Ground transfer. The transportation to the cruise terminal from the airport is also covered. When you avail of this service, you will skip the check-in process at the Marina Bay Cruise Center and head straight to the immigration process.

Safety Drill

dream cruise genting food

Before setting sail, there’s a safety drill that everyone is required to participate in. You need to pay attention and familiarize yourself with the ship’s map, especially your Assembly Station (which is indicated on your Access Card), and the emergency exits in case of an emergency. Check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory that you will find in your cabin for the safety drill schedule. Ours was held at 9:00 PM.

3 Complimentary Restaurants

This is part of what you paid for when you booked your cruise ticket. You can dine here without incurring additional fees. It’s free-of-charge. Genting Dream has three inclusive restaurant options:

  • Dream Dining Room Lower. It serves either a semi-buffet type or Chinese set menu, depending on the schedule. You may check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory for the info. This is located on Deck 7, Aft section of the ship. Reservation is required.
  • Dream Dining Room Upper. This only serves the Chinese set menu. This is located on Deck 8, Aft section of the ship. Reservation is required.
  • The Lido. This serves Asian and international buffet, including Halal and Indian cuisines. The outdoor area of the restaurant is a 24-hour snack place that also serves morning tea and afternoon tea. This is located on Deck 16, Aft section.

Dream Dining Room Upper and Lower have a ballroom hall-themed setting and floor-to-ceiling windows that afford guests the magnificent views of the ocean.

Note: Alcoholic drinks are not free-of-charge.

dream cruise genting food

You may also try the specialty restaurants! Genting Dream has nine. Charges apply when dining at any of these, but if you are craving any of their offerings, go for it. Here are your options:

  • Umi Uma (Japanese Cuisine and Teppanyaki / Korean BBQ; Deck 8, Aft)
  • Hot Pot (Choice of meat, seafood or vegetarian hot pot; outdoor setting; Deck 8, Aft)
  • Prime Steakhouse by Mark Best (Western Dishes / Steak; Deck 8, Mid)
  • Seafood Grill by Mark Best (Western Dishes / Seafood; Deck 8, Mid)
  • Gelateria (Homemade Gelato; Deck 8, Aft)
  • Blue Lagoon (Hawker Food / Asian and International; Deck 7, Mid, open 24 hours)
  • Lobby Café (Coffee / Tea / Bread; Deck 6, Mid)
  • Silk Road Chinese Restaurant (Chinese Fine Dining; Deck 6, Forward)
  • Crystal Life Cuisine (Healthy Options; Deck 15, Forward)

Shore Excursions (Shorex)

To put it simply, these are pre-arranged tours at every stop. One of the best things I love about cruising is that you get to visit other countries while enjoying the cruise ship’s amenities and features at the same time.

This time with Genting Dream, we took the weekend getaway package with a stop at Bintan Island in Indonesia. For this stop, there are three Shorex options to choose from: Tanjung Urban Explorer, Scuba Tryout at Trikora Coast, and Bintan Black Coral Leisure Diving. We took the first option which includes Gurun Pasir Busung (sand desert), Telaga Biru (Blue Oasis), and Trily Resort Center Mangrove Forest in the itinerary.

dream cruise genting food

You can also pull a D-I-Y. It’s up to you. Here are the scenarios:

  • Booking a Shorex. This is the same as joining a guided group tour. You won’t have to worry about getting to one attraction to the next or how much it will cost you because everything, including the meal, will be taken care of for you by the local tour operator partners. You can be assured that you will return to the ship on time.
  • Pulling a D-I-Y. You can travel at your own pace and control your itinerary. It is also a cheaper option. BUT, you need to be aware of the time. Make sure that you return to the port on time or earlier because the ship will not wait for you. It will leave, with or without you.

Whatever you choose, you will be given a small sheet of paper upon disembarkation. This usually contains instructions and the address of the port where the ship is docked. Don’t forget to bring your Access Card and a photocopy of your passport bio page.

Note: Some Shorex options may require a lot of walking or trekking or activities that might not be suitable for those with health issues. Carefully check the itinerary and assess if the tour is viable for you. Also, each tour needs a minimum number of participants. A tour may be canceled if it doesn’t meet the minimum requirement.

Room and Amenities

dream cruise genting food

Genting Dream has four types of accommodations: Interior Stateroom, Oceanview Stateroom, Balcony Stateroom, and the exclusive suites, collectively referred to as The Palace. Since the ship caters to families and big groups, there are over 100 connecting rooms. About 70 percent of accommodations feature spacious balcony staterooms. Aside from the toiletries and towels, the rooms also have haird ryer, mini-refrigerator, safe, water kettle, complimentary bottled water, tea, coffee, and sugar packets. These are replenished daily as housekeeping do regular cleaning.

The cheapest is the Interior Stateroom. If you want to make the most of the ship’s features, you will probably be spending most of your time outside the room — swimming, sunbathing, eating, playing, shopping, watching shows or going on shore excursions.

Here are some amenities that you can enjoy for FREE:

dream cruise genting food

  • Waterslide Park. You have six slide types to choose from — from gentle slopes for the family to steep inclines for the adventurous. Wear proper swimming attire. Follow the rules and the staff on duty for your safety. Located on Deck 20, Aft.
  • Main Pool and Kids Water Park. Located on Deck 16, Mid. You can see the Waterslide Park from here. You can also relax and sunbathe at the Sun Deck on Deck 17, Mid.
  • Crystal Life Fitness. This is the gym. If you don’t want to miss your workout routine, you can do it here. Located on Deck 15. You can also go to the Jogging Track on Deck 17, Forward.
  • Ropes Course. Perfect bonding activity for the family, couples, and groups. Complete the course and punctuate it with the 35-meter zipline, gliding along the side of the ship above the water from Deck 18.
  • Sportsplex. A large outdoor court that can host basketball, tennis, archery, bubble soccer, and other physical games. Located on Deck 19, Aft.
  • Rock Climbing Wall. Wear proper footwear. Located on Deck 18, Aft.
  • Mini-Golf. Nine-hole putting course. Please wear proper sports shoes. Located on Deck 18, Aft.

If you like to shop or bring home some souvenirs, you can get duty-free items from The Dream Boutiques located on Decks 6 and 7. The Dream Store/Souvenir Mart, located on Deck 6, is where you can get Dream Cruises merchandise. If you fell in love with one of the artworks you see inside the ship, you can go to the Art Gallery, located on Deck 8, to purchase a copy of that artwork.

Evening Shows and Events

dream cruise genting food

The night is as exciting as the day onboard Genting Dream. You can choose from brilliant live production shows brought to you by the award-winning international entertainment team. During our cruise, we have two choices: SONIO – A Tale of Two Dreams and Some Like It Hot. We were able to watch the latter at Zodiac Theatre. You need to reserve your seat for the show at the Box Office on Deck 6 (Mid). You can find the opening hours of the Box Office on the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory sheet provided in your cabin.

If you want to brush up on your moves and still got the energy to dance the night away, let Zouk and Zouk Beach Club orchestrate an unforgettable party for you as it brings the best beats by world-class DJs. Both are located on Deck 17. Zouk is Singapore’s most sought-after nightclub and consistently chosen one of the top ten clubs in the world.

If you booked a 5-night cruise, expect a grand night party on the last night called Dream Night. This usually happens at the pool deck. You can also check out the bars if you just want to have a sip and unwind. Here are some of them: Sun Deck Bar (Deck 17/Mid), Pool Deck Bar (Deck 16/Mid), Red Lion (Deck 7/Mid/24 hours), Bar 360 (Deck 6/Mid), Karaoke (five rooms/Deck 6/Mid), and Bar City, a collection of bars in one area: Johnnie Walker House, Penfolds Wine Vault, Mixt Cocktail Bar, Humidor Cigar Lounge, and Bubbles Champagne Bar (Deck 8/Mid).

Cinema at Sea

dream cruise genting food

For movie enthusiasts, you can still watch while on board. Depending on the schedule, here are the places to catch flicks: Zodiac Theatre (Deck 7/Forward), Zouk Beach Club (Deck 17/Aft), and the Lobby (Deck 6/Mid). Check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory sheet for the venue and the time.

Yes! You can connect to the internet while at sea. How? Subscribe to WiFi through the Dream Cruises Mobile App. Here are the rates. Note: Rates vary depending on how many days and the package type.

  • Standard: SGD19 – SGD95. Good for e-mail, chat, and social media. You can connect up to two devices.
  • Premium: SGD29 – SGD145. Good for e-mail, chat, social media, and light media streaming. You can connect up to two devices.

Checking Out and Disembarkation

dream cruise genting food

Things to Eat, Do, and See on the Genting Dream: Cruise Your Way To An Unforgettable Holiday

dream cruise genting food

PUBLISHED October 13th, 2018 06:00 am | UPDATED March 26th, 2019 01:30 pm

The lovely thing about cruises is that even if you’re too lazy to explore the port of call, there’s plenty to do on the ship itself.   Dream Cruises ‘ Genting Dream sails to exciting islands like Pulau Redang, Koh Samui and Sihanoukville in Cambodia, but onboard entertainment includes water slides to foam parties, sumptuous buffet spreads, and of course, the slots. It’s gonna be tough finding your feet once you’re back on land so here are 10 things to enjoy aboard Genting Dream while it lasts.

dream cruise genting food

The Genting Dream Cruise challenges the commonly held assumption that food onboard cannot be as good as the food on land. Fresh ingredients and skilled preparation methods mean delicious and satisfying meals available at sea.

Indian Food at the Lido buffet

dream cruise genting food

After chatting with a Singaporean couple at another buffet restaurant onboard, they claimed that “the Indian food at Lido is better than most of the restaurants in Little India”. This piqued my curiosity and true enough, the extensive spread of Indian dishes at this buffet (inclusive in the cruise package) will leave you sated. The struggle to decide with choices like idly, naan, paratha and a whole plethora of spiced rice dishes that can be eaten with an equally appetizing mix of curries and deals is real. There’s even a designated Jain Counter for vegetarians. The dessert section is pretty standard but I enjoyed assembling my daily sweet treat; frozen yoghurt with fresh fruit.

Traditional Chinese Cuisine at The Dream Dining Room

dream cruise genting food

I couldn’t get enough of this restaurant during my cruise. While buffets excite with the lavish spread of delicious possibilities, there is nothing quite like a sit-down restaurant meal with friends and family. This Chinese restaurant (inclusive in cruise package) serves a variety of courses for each meal.

Breakfast was my favourite with a feast of tasty Cantonese style dim sum, two noodle dishes, a bowl of congee and Chinese tea or coffee. Dinner comes with a soup and dessert course as well.

The attentive staff will be more than happy to bring you another round of dishes should you still feel hungry – and it’s hard to stop especially when fried chicken is one of the dishes on the menu.

Bistro by Mark Best

Australian celebrity Chef Mark Best has launched a new menu at his onboard restaurant. The seafood section features innovative dishes like the Peruvian inspired Kingfish served with Kiwi Ceviche and Finger Lime and the fresh Black Cod Poached in Tomato, Chili and Olives for some umami goodness while the choice cuts of steak are nothing to scoff at either. It is the   Slow Braised Australian Wagyu Ox Cheek with Mashed Potatoes , however, that represents Chef Mark Best’s care, knowledge and integrity when it comes to everyday ingredients.

Keep yourself thoroughly entertained with their incredibly fun amenities like the Glow Bowling Alley, a fully equipped Arcade and a mini Golf course. You can even join a Fitness Bootcamp or an energizing dance class with the sea as your backdrop.

Zipline/ Ropes Course/ Rock Climbing

dream cruise genting food

The Ropes Course is a tough call (especially if you’re afraid of heights), but the stunning view of the open water makes this a must do. Strapped in with a safety harness and with numerous staff standing by, it’s a safe way to experience your own ‘I’m the king of the world!’ moment, 18 decks above the sea. Not without its challenges, like the short rock wall you will have to scale or the moving plank walk, this thrilling activity that will leave you glowing with pride as you step back onto the ship – even if it takes you twice as long to complete.

The Rock Climbing Wall is somewhat more challenging, with different routes, varying in difficulty, to reach the top that’s 23.46 feet high. You will need proper shoes before a a staff member can strap you into the safety harness to climb this Great Wall.

Water Slides and Jacuzzis

dream cruise genting food

Experience the most exhilarating moments onboard with the six waterslides that cater to older kids and adults. Sure to get the adrenaline pumping, each slide is designed slightly differently, ranging from from gentle to sharp descents so you can build your confidence as you go. After all that excitement, take a relaxing break in one of the jacuzzis. It can comfortably accommodate 6-8 people so chill out with friends or the fam, grab a drink and snap a little something for the ‘gram.

Zouk Night Club

dream cruise genting food

Ditch all your preconceptions about clubs and lounges on cruise ships because this one is radically different. Be it EDM or Bollywood, the Zouk DJs have got you covered so let loose and dance till the club closes at three in the morning. The Zouk Beach Club is located outdoors for fun movie nights under the stars while imbibing delicious cocktails. Spend an intimate night in one of the jacuzzis while enjoying a nightcap or join in the fun at the foam parties and other themed beach parties held here.

Luxury Spa Treats

dream cruise genting food

Get pampered at the Crystal Life Asian Spa located on Deck 5 with treatments like the hour-long relaxing Foot Massage ($50 for 60mins) or the Chinese Acupressure Full Body Massage ($85 for 60mins / $110 for 90mins). Enjoy spa facilities including the Sauna, Steam Room, and Vitality Pool, as well as Thermal Suites perfect for soothing aching muscles.

Visual entertainment featured on Genting Dream’s programming include movie screenings and live music, which are available till late. There is even an After Dark with Dream Girls Show from midnight onwards that seductively fuses dance, music and fashion for an unforgettable night.

Daily Theatre Shows

dream cruise genting food

Every night, there are exciting staged productions to catch. Voyage of a Lover’s Dream was by far the most captivating theatrical performance with several death-defying stunts sure to leave you spellbound. The mesmerizing costumes and the pure spectacle makes for an enjoyable evening onboard the ship. China’s Got Talent – The Dream Experience Show is another interesting show where you get to watch live acts like a contortionist sister act, a knife-throwing husband and wife pair and an LED dance performance.

The Bridge Viewing Room Viewing Gallery

Located just after the Fitness Centre on Deck 15, the Bridge Viewing Room is where you can observe the captain and crew on the job. With interesting facts and information tidbits about the ship, you can sign up for a Bridge Tour for that will illuminate secrets behind navigating this massive vessel and you will have the chance to get up close and personal with the bridge officers.

Genting Dream cruise review and survival tips by an indie traveller

By: Author Jaclynn Seah

Posted on Published: December 24, 2017  - Last updated: October 23, 2019

Categories Review , Malaysia , Singapore , Thailand

Excluding the time I spent a week sailing through the Galapagos Islands , the last time I went on a proper fancy cruise was back when I was a very young child and I remember absolutely nothing from that experience. So tagging along with my family on the Genting Dream cruise over the holiday season was a rather interesting experience for me, and I thought I’d share with you what my cruise experience was like, and some hacks I figured out to make your cruise better (and involve less queuing).

Also – this is not a sponsored post , I wasn’t even planning to write about this trip at all since it’s a family vacation and it’s not my usual style of travel, but I was looking for info on the Genting Dream the day before I departed (wooh for last minute research), and only realised then that this was a pretty new route that launched just a month earlier in late November 2017 and the ship will spend a year with Singapore as its home port . There were pretty mixed reviews from Tripadvisor , so I thought I’d add my voice to the conversation. Also, I’m sure other indie travellers might be in the same boat (hurhur pun) as me and this might help them survive their own vacations a little beter.

I did the 6D5N Island Escapade that followed a route from Singapore to Klang and Penang in Malaysia, and then to Phuket , Thailand before heading back home, my last trip of 2017 . Click on the hyperlinks to see my experiences and recommendations travelling in these areas.

Why would an indie traveller even join a cruise?

I’ve established through my travels that I like to travel in a certain way that I describe as Indie Flashpacker, where I figure out my own travel plans and don’t have much of an itinerary, and while I travel pretty cheaply I’m willing to spend on occasion. But taking a cruise is quite the antithesis of being an Indie Flashpacker, my biggest issue is that it sometimes feels like you are trapped in a Marina Bay Sands Twilight Zone that you can’t escape . Sure, this ginormous ship has 19 decks and planned activities, but it does get stifling after a bit.

And the most important thing about travel for me is being able to explore a place on my own terms and time, and that’s quite difficult to do on a cruise schedule, where you are pretty much limited to very short day/half-day trips every time you are in port. You could do it, but you’ll need to do a lot of prep work to squeeze the most out of your limited time on land. To be fair, I love waking up each morning in a new city or country, and the plus points of not having to squeeze on planes or go through tedious airport security is awesome, but if I wanted to properly visit a place, this is not how I want to do it.

You think being on a somewhat inclusive cruise (I’ll get into why I say ‘somewhat’ further down) means being able to turn your brain off for a bit, but frankly I found having to figure out their schedule sometimes a tad stressful, especially because there are quite limited hours for certain activities, so I couldn’t quite laze around as much as I wanted to if I wanted to get stuff done.

The Genting Dream Survival Guide

Enough of my whinging – regardless of how or why, you’re headed on a cruise, and here’s how you can survive the next few days and actually have yourself a decent time. Read on for more details on my Genting Dream cruise experience as well.

Pin it: How to survive a vacation on a mega cruise

Board early if you can

The Genting Dream is HUGE. And I mean GINORMOUS. The ship has 19 levels, accommodates 3,400 pax and easily towers over any other ship in port with it. Correspondingly there are a massive ton of people trying to board the ship, so boarding early means less arduous queues to suffer through, and if you have luggage, it gets sent up to your room much faster then if you come on board later. Hot tip: pack your essentials in a day bag that you can carry with you so you aren’t stuck waiting for your bags to get sent to your room.

The ship set sail at around 6pm, and the final boarding call time was at 430pm, but we decided to head in much earlier and reached the Marina Bay Cruise Centre at around 12pm. It was about 1pm when they called for our group to board, and about 120pm by the time I put my stuff down in my room. I was definitely quite a lot faster than my sister who had to take her kids through the regular counters while I went through the automated check-in for Singaporeans. There are a lot of foreigners who fly into Singapore just to hop on this cruise, mostly Asians – the nationalities I was seeing/hearing a lot of: Singaporean, Malaysian, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian.

Genting Dream Cruise Ship Side Exterior

The main perk of boarding early is that it is the best time to go try out the popular activities that you really do not want to queue up for – everyone else is just getting oriented to the ship, so you have a lot of people wandering around exploring, but no one is really ready to do anything. We had the main pool on Deck 16 mostly to ourselves that first afternoon, and my sis and I hit the water slides multiple times that evening without having to queue or wait as others had to do in the following days, and I saw some people doing the rope course as well.

Other optimum times to hit the facilities with less crowds around are during mealtimes or if you come back from your day trips a little earlier than everyone else – most people aim to return in the last hour or so before the boarding time, so if you put your things down in your room and head straight out, there’s a good chance you’ll get less of a queue.

Of course if you can afford it, the Dream Palace VIP level means no queues wherever you go, but it costs about 2x as much as a regular room, so I’d say only if you can afford it and want to live the lux life.

Know the daily activity schedule

The timings of meals and activities fluctuates every single day, which is a bit of a pain for someone like me who likes having a fairly stable time schedule to remember. There is a daily newsletter with highlights that gets placed outside your room or in the main areas, or download the Dream Cruises app, which has the same info that they have on the e-notice board located around the boat.

There were a ton of families on board with kids of all ages. I think you need to be at least 1.4m in height and about 8-10 years old to fully utilise all the fun facilities like the slides and rope course, otherwise you might end up a tad disappointed like my poor niece.

Genting Dream Cruise Ship Pool Deck 16

Some random activity comments:

  • Water Slides: There are 2 baby slides, but for the real fun you have to climb up 3 decks to the large water slides. There are 3 levels, my favourite was the Medium level because there is a particularly steep vertical drop right at the start which is like, woah.
  • Rope Course: You’re about 2m in the air walking over obstacles and climbing stuff which is pretty fun – stick to the outside of the course where you can look down over the side of the boat, but the best part is the zipline at the end of the course where you zip over the side of the boat. Most thrilling to do on the last day while the boat is on the move!
  • Glow Bowling: This can be found at Zouk at Level 17 and is UV lit later in the night, but it usually is a lot less crowded if you go earlier in the evening as it starts getting crowded after dinner and there are only 4 lanes. It also costs $8/game (10 frames) – which means each person pays $8 to bowl 10 frames unless you’re happy to share.

You have to sign up for slots for some of the activities like the night shows in the theatre. Unless you have a really big group and want to guarantee a slot for your entire group, I honestly don’t think you need to bother, especially later in the trip when the theatres seemed more empty. My mum who’s pretty organised about this sorta thing signed us up for 4 shows, I ended up going to only 2 of them:

  • The Santa’s Leading Ladies show was a medley of Christmas songs sung by 3 ladies that I personally found very boring and made worse by the amount of typos in the song lyrics flashed on either side of the stage, as well as the poor gif like animations used in the background. I’ve seen more polished school projects, come on.
  • The house show Voyage of a Lover’s Dream is a bit of an abstract mishmash of everything and there seems to be a very loose storyline based on an astronaut and a mermaid falling in love (you’ll see the artwork on the side of the boat as well), and it’s entertaining at least. Some of the acrobatics are mindboggling, the trampoline act is like woah.

This is a Genting boat after all, so there are tons of gambling opportunities for you all around as you walk around Levels 6-8 where all the dining and shopping happens. I hardly went to the casinos because I’m just not interested so I can’t tell you very much about that.

Genting Dream Cruise Ship Night Activity

Where and when to eat

Genting Dream boasts of over 35 dining concepts within its ship , but here’s a bit of a reality check, only 3 of these are inclusive dining areas like The Lido (International buffet, deck 16), Dream Dining Upper (Chinese food, deck 8) and Dream Dining Lower (Western food, deck 7), which is what you are limited to when you’re on a plebian tier (my words, not theirs). Everything else you pay extra for unless you are in the Dream Palace tier (that’s like the VIP tier).

The meal timings fluctuate, and you would think going to eat early would mean less queuing, but that seems to be what everyone thinks as well, so you are actually better off going at around an hour or so after the opening meal time for that first wave to leave, especially on the first day. My friends on the VIP tier say that the premium restaurants were mostly uncrowded, so if you are tired of queuing, maybe consider forking out the cash for a fancier experience.

For breakfast, I had a much better experience in Dream Dining Lower than in The Lido – it was much easier to get a seat and much less crowded. There was less food selection of course compared to the buffet spread in The Lido, but the food quality was definitely better, actually warm and better tasting in my opinion. The Dream Dining rooms do set meals, so you get assigned a table and either get to choose from a list of set meals (western), or you get served family style (chinese).

Genting Dream Cruise Ship Dream Dining Chinese

The Lido definitely does lunch and dinner better – I like having variety, but it also gets pretty packed compared to the other 2 dining areas. It’s a U-shaped room with multiple food stations, but it isn’t entirely identical on each side. The starboard (right side when you face the front) of The Lido tends to be less crowded compared to the port side (left side). The bend of the U is an extremely popular Indian food section – this cruise seems to be quite popular with the Indians, which means yay curries and papadum for variety but holy moly it gets crowded when the Indian folk all come into the restaurant at once.

If you have super picky eaters, there’s a bakery on board and some smaller meal options where it’s not crazy expensive that might work for you. Donuts were going at around $3.50 and a Breakfast Set for around $7, not cheap but hey you’re a captive customer, it’s not insane either.

Some food comments:

  • I’d recommend: beef (DDL as a set meal and the carved roast up in the Lido), bak kut teh (DDL – it’s Malaysian style with lots of ingredients but the soup quantity itself is quite small), live noodle stations (super spicy tom yam, great prawn noodle soup and lor mee, I liked the fishball noodle soup but the fishball itself was forgettable), fried chicken (can’t go wrong honestly). We had a seafood Chinese dinner that was pretty good on our last night (DDU)
  • I’d skip with no regret: juices (these are very much cordial drinks and very sweet at that. Stick to water), dory fish (DDL – it’s kinda soggy and fishy), porridge (especially if it’s not hot like our first breakfast in The Lido)

The ship docked in different ports every day – Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang, I skipped this and stayed on board), Penang (Swettenham Pier which is really near George Town) and Phuket (near Patong Bay).

Genting Dream Cruise Penang Swettenham Port

For Phuket, you’ll need to pick up a ferry transfer ticket to transfer you from the boat to the land, unlike the other 2 where you can walk off the boat directly. Whatever time you pick, hustle down to pickup area (ours was in the Zodiac Theatre) as early as you can, because they board on a first-come-first-serve basis and it can take awhile. We waited at least half an hour for our 945am call time to finally board a ferry. The return is much faster though, possibly because the seas are less choppy in the evening and there are more boats.

Genting Dream Cruise Ship Port Klang

The moment you disembark, you will be surrounded by people offering taxi services – do your research beforehand so you know how much to pay and not get ripped off. It’s a bit of a swarm, I let my family work out the details and just tagged along. You definitely could consider walking, catching a cheap public bus or taking a Grab in Penang because of the proximity to George Town, unless you plan to travel further. For Phuket, there is a decent stretch of beach within walking distance of the port if you rather not travel too far. It’s a bit crowded, but you can do your sea sports and the water/sand are nice enough.

The ship also organises day tours, which I honestly thought were pretty pricey, but that’s to be expected. We had actually planned to go on a Phi Phi island tour but the weather wasn’t great so that got cancelled. Instead we ended up heading to some sort of activity centre for ATV rides, and they also offered elephant rides and ziplining.

Looking for ideas on things to do in Penang and Phuket?

  • There is so much street art to see and easy to get to in George Town ( click here for a detailed guide ), or if you are more adventurous and are hiring a driver anyway, why not head to Balik Pulau or take a quick ferry transfer to Butterworth ( here’s where to go exactly )
  • Of course Penang is a great foodie destination, so make sure to eat, eat, eat !

Most of my Phuket experience has been about their resorts, but there was that one time I ate insects , which was pretty memorable :p

So that’s a bit of my experience on the Genting Dream and cruising, there are good things about cruising and as can be seen from the sheer number of people on board, lots of people love this type of travel but it’s just not for me, so I doubt I’ll be cruising again anytime soon. Drop any questions you might have below and I’ll try and help.

I am going to spent 5N6D on genting dream cruise with my wife and two kids. I will have 4 shore excursion i.e. port klang, lagkawi, penang and phuket. My querry is that can i get shore excursion options outside the port from local travel agent or i have to book in advance.

Jaclynn Seah

Usually at the port when you disembark from the cruise ship, there are lot of drivers etc offering you tours and other services, so you can book from there. You can probably make your own arrangements as well, or book via the ship's tour desk.

Going on the Genting Dream cruise in the 1st week of October.

Can you please tell us what kind of wall sockets for power are available in the rooms?

I honestly don't remember offhand, sorry!

Thursday 25th of April 2019

Hello, I'm curious on where did the ship docked at penang? From the port is there any form of transport available to go george town? If so, how much should i set aside for it?

Hi Estie - if you look at the section under day trips, in Penang the boat docks at Swettenham Pier which is quite close to downtown George Town. There are lots of taxis waiting and guides waiting for passengers coming off the boat, Price really depends on where you go though, hard for me to advise about that.

Genting Dream Review

Review of genting dream.

The 2016-built MS Genting Dream cruise ship was the first vessel in the fleet of the Chinese premium brand Dream Cruises (Genting Hong Kong/GHK-owned subsidiary company launched in November 2015). One of the world's largest passenger liners , the 151300-GT-ton vessel debuted in November 2016. Its former fleetmates were World Dream/Manara (2017/sistership), Resorts World One (1999-built as SuperStar Virgo, named Explorer Dream after the transfer from Star Cruises in 2019) and the larger Global Dream/Disney Adventure (2020/GLOBAL-class).

The vessel (IMO number 9733105) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311000319) and registered in Nassau .

Since May 2022, Genting Dream operates for Resorts World Cruises ( new travel brand ) established by GHK's former owner Lim Kok Thai.

MS Genting Dream's last drydock refurbishment was in 2023 (February 17 through March 1), being previously refurbished in 202 (January). Both drydocking renovation projects were conducted in Singapore (at Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard).

History - construction and ownership

In late-April 2022, Asian online media reported that Genting Dream becomes the first liner in the fleet of "Resorts World Cruises" - a Singapore -registered company (incorporated on March 9, 2022) established by Lim Kok Thay (Genting Group/Genting Cruise Lines). Also was reported that Resorts World Cruises is in negotiations with banks and investors to acquire Dream Cruises' other two vessels (Explorer Dream, World Dream).

The company's management team is led by Colin Au (CEO and Executive Director) and Michael Goh (President and International Sales Directors). Resorts World Cruises opened bookings for Genting Dream on May 18, 2022.

The parent company "Resorts World" is a Genting Group-owned subsidiary (Malaysian hospitality and casino franchise) and brand used across all Genting-owned resorts and casinos worldwide. Resorts World has ultra-premium properties (46 total/as of 2022) in Asia (Malaysia's Pahang, Terengganu, Langkawi-Kedah, Singapore's Sentosa Island, Philippines' Newport City-Pasay, Entertainment City-Paranaque, Macau's Nam Vam Lake), also in the USA (Winchester Nevada, Queens NYC, Kiamesha Lake NY, Miami Florida), Bahamas (North Bimini) and Europe (Solihull-Birmingham, England UK).

On May 18, 2022, at a news conference, Resorts World Cruises officially announced that as a "gesture of goodwill" the new company will offer complimentary FCCs/future cruise credits of "equivalent value" to all customers affected by World Dream's cancellations ( cruises to nowhere from Singapore/bookings for voyages scheduled for departure between March 2 and August 31, 2022). The FCCs were valid for the period June 15, 2022, through March 31, 2023, and applicable only to affected World Dream bookings that had not yet received any refund from the original booking source.

According to Colin Au (Resorts World Cruises' CEO and Executive Director, also GHK's former Deputy CEO), as the provisional liquidator couldn't revive the brand (Dream Cruises), they had worked with the Chinese lessors (Genting Dream's shipowner) and had decided to restart operations under the new "Resorts World" brand.

MS Genting Dream cruise ship

GHK is a global entertainment, hospitality, and leisure company based in Hong Kong . For its new Dream Cruises brand, GHK ordered two custom-built vessels to serve the Asian market, specifically China. GHK's other two cruise market segments were served by separate brands - Crystal Cruises (ultra-luxury) and Star Cruises (contemporary).

On October 7, 2013, Star Cruises announced that GHK signed a shipbuilding agreement with Meyer Werft ( Papenburg Germany ) for the construction of a new vessel for Star Cruises, with scheduled delivery in 2016-Q4. On February 10, 2014, was ordered a sistership, with scheduled delivery in 2017-Q4. Both vessels were with gross tonnage 150,000 GT tons and double-occupancy passenger capacity 3364.

However, later GHK decided to create a new brand (Dream Cruises) and both newbuilds were transferred to the new company. MS Genting World's (later renamed "MS World Dream") steel-cutting ceremony was held on February 9, 2015, at Meyer Werft Papenburg shipyard. MS Genting Dream debuted in November 2016. The sistership World Dream was launched in November 2017. On August 20, 2016, Genting Dream was floated out of the covered building dock 2 at Meyer Werft Papenburg.

MS Genting Dream staterooms (1686 total) accommodate between 3376-3400 passengers served by 2020 crew, meaning a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.7, which is the highest in comparison to any Asia Pacific ship. The German-built vessel is also designed with spacious interiors.

~70% of all staterooms are with private step-out balconies, and 100+ cabins are connecting (with adjoining interior doors) making them suitable for families. Suite services include special perks, privileges, professional European butler service.

The largest accommodations are the Dream Grand Villas (sized 224 m2 / 2410 ft2). Other Dream Suite categories Executive (56-80 m2 / 600-860 ft2) and Deluxe (43 m2 / 460 ft2).

"THE PALACE" is a ship-within-ship concept/exclusive complex consisting of 154x premium Palace Suites (sized 37-40 m2 / 400-430 ft2), with exclusive dining and lounge venues/areas, butler service, suite-only perks. The boat has 18 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 10 with cabins.

Note: Deck 15 is actually the ship's "Deck 14". This enumeration is due to the fact that for the Chinese, numbers that include 4 are considered unlucky - similar to the Western practice about the number 13, and the Italians' number 17.

Genting Dream Wiki

In January 2017, Dream Cruises announced the inaugural cruise itineraries of their first newbuild Genting Dream. The homeporting in Singapore (starting December 3, 2017) made it the first large-sized cruise ship based there for year-round operations. Genting Dream is the latest generation vessel (Germany-built) and is calling at more than 10 ports in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam during 2018.

The vessel (Meyer Neptun yard/hull number S712) has volume 150695 GT-tons, DWT-deadweight 15370 tons, mx width 44 m (with the bridge wings), max draught 8,6 m. The powerplant is based on MAN B&W marine diesel engines (model 14V48/60B) with combined output 62,4 MW (83680 hp).

Before Resorts World Cruises, the registered shipowner were three Genting Hong Kong Ltd-owned companies (Xiang CR18 HK International Ship Lease Co Ltd, Sea 172 Leasing Co Ltd, Compass Shipping 32 Co Ltd) while the registered operator was GENTING CRUISE LINES.

The vessel's physical construction/assembly officially started on December 4, 2015, with the keel-laying ceremony held at Meyer Werft GmbH's Neptun yard in Papenburg Germany . During the ceremony, a massive keel block (number 2 / one of the ship's all 92 building blocks) was lifted into the dock to officially start the assembly process. GHK's Chairman and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay laid the traditional "lucky coin" (a good fortune symbol) under the block to bless the new vessel.

The vessel was floated out from drydock on August 20, 2016. Its conveyance (northbound route to North Seas along Ems River) started on September 18, leaving the Papenburg shipyard at around 2 pm. It entered the North Sea waters on Sept 19, at around 6 pm. After the scheduled sea trials, the ship docked in Bremerhaven (at Columbus Cruise Center).

On November 14, 2016, was the christening ceremony held at Guangzhou (Port Nansha) . The ship's godmother is Mrs. Puan Sri Cecilia Lim - wife of Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay. He is Chairman and CEO of GHK (Genting Hong Kong) and second son of Genting Group's founder Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong. The naming ceremony was attended by over 900 distinguished guests, including numerous VIPs (prominent Chinese government officials, top executives from the cruise industry and shipping trade). Among the VIP guests were Cai Zhaolin (Guangzhou's Vice Mayor), Zeng Xiaofeng (Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province's Deputy Director), Chen Hongxian (Guangzhou Port's Chairman), Cai Jinlong (Guangzhou Port's General Manager). The welcome aboard event was held at the ship's Zodiac Theater (999-seat show lounge) led by Thatcher Brown (Dream Cruises' President). Next spoke Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay (GHK's Chairman and CEO). Followed the traditional for China exchange of gifts.

MS Genting Dream cruise ship construction

On October 12, 2016, the vessel was officially delivered to Dream Cruises by Meyer Werft in Bremerhaven. Ships' hull art (titled "Voyage of a Lover’s Dream”) is by the Chinese artist Jacky Tsai.

Wartsila Funa was the supplier of the ship's unique external "Dynamic Exterior Lighting" system. The order was placed in 2016-Q1. The innovative lighting system provides stunning visual effects (color, movement, and video) to the vessel's exterior. The technology is based on custom-designed and individually controlled LED RGBW lighting units. Wartsila Funa specializes in audio, video and lighting control design for large land-based public facilities (including theme parks, attractions, museums) and for cruise ships.

Ship's first Captain (Master) was Jukka Silvennoinen.

In late-September 2019, GHK (shipowner) sold Genting Dream (via sale-and-leaseback deal) to a consortium of three Chinese banks. The liner was sold for USD 900 million (~EUR 805 million) or 80% of its current market value (EUR 1,055 billion / USD 1,18 billion). According to a previous filing, as of June 30, 2019, the vessel's unaudited net asset value was ~USD 862,5 million (~EUR 777,3 M). The deal was finalized on January 15, 2020. The liner was immediately bareboat chartered (leased back to GHK) for 12 years, which means it will be purchased back by GHK in 2031.

The vessel's sale and leaseback transaction was with a 4-party consortium of Chinese financial companies - Bocomm Leasing (Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co Ltd, 2007-founded), CMB Financial Leasing Co Ltd (part of China Merchants Bank), CCB Financial Leasing Corporation Ltd (part of China Construction Bank) and CDB Leasing (China Development Bank Financial Leasing Co Ltd). GHK's Financial advisor was DNB Markets (2003-founded, part of DNB Bank ASA / fka DnB NOR Bank).

Genting Dream refurbishments review

In January 2020, the ship was drydocked for 3 days at Sembcorp Marine Shipyard ( Singapore ) for general maintenance works and technical updates. During the drydock was installed a new dual water hybrid scrubber (exhaust gas cleaning system, supplied by Valmet) and 2 new overboard discharge valves (for the Valmet scrubbers). Maintenance works also included hull cleaning, swimming pools modifications (for reducing the vessel's draft/draught) and equipment tests - conducted by specialists from the companies Wartsila (engines), ABB (propulsion system) and DNV GL (classification society). Refurbishment works / new flooring received the World Buffet (Lido restaurant).

Genting Dream was last drydock refurbished in 2023 (February 17 - March 1) at Singapore's Sembcorp Shipyard. The drydocking was mainly for regular maintenance (technical and class works).

The annual event is open to consultants with "CLIA Ambassador" level accreditation and employed by CLIA member travel agencies. Masters Conference 2017 commenced in Hong Kong (China) on September 16. All booked travel agents enjoyed 1-night pre-cruise accommodation before boarding the ship for a 5-night cruise to Japan visiting Naha (Okinawa Island) and Miyakojima . Participation fees were included in cruise prices (USD 1880 pp double occupancy/airfare excluded).

We Went On Genting Dream Cruise, The World's 1st Cruise With A Halal-Certified Kitchen, Here's What It's Like

avatar-name

Qistina Bumidin  •  Jul 04, 2023

Remember those cruises to nowhere? They’re now a thing of the past! We (finally) set sail for Kuala Lumpur and Penang from Singapore on Resorts World Cruises’ new Genting Dream Cruise , the world’s first cruise ship with a halal-certified kitchen . Safe to say, we wish we didn’t need to leave the ship! Particularly because we had the chance to stay in the Palace Suite, where we had a dedicated butler service. No kidding! Read on to find out about our experience!

Follow us on Telegram for the latest updates: https://bit.ly/3LnFN1F

P.S. HHWT readers! Resort World Cruise and Klook are giving you up to $70 off your stays. Stick on till the end to find out more!

Palace Suites: Cabins fitted for royals

dream cruise genting food

There’s a saying that goes, “Heavy is the head that wears the crown”, but when you’re a Palace guest, you’ll feel like the royal treatment was made for you ?We stayed at the Palace Deluxe Suite, which is part of a range of “The Palace” rooms. This is the premier class of rooms on the Genting Dream, situated on higher floors, with its private amenities and, yes, a dedicated butler service. The room was spacious for us; they truly mean business regarding royal treatment! ? There’s one queen-size bed and a double sofa bed (which can be converted into a bed for your little ones), which is perfect for a family of four! The room covers all your needs - a bathtub and an adjacent shower area, a dresser, complimentary coffee and mini-bar snacks, wardrobes and more.

dream cruise genting food

But one amazing feature that stood out the most was the huge balcony! If you’ve ever been on a cruise before, you’ll know that having an entire balcony to yourself is simply a privilege, but as Palace guests, we enjoyed waking up to expansive views of the ocean. Two words - simply breathtaking!

dream cruise genting food

And the list of privileges never ends! For starters, we mentioned earlier that we had a dedicated butler service (we’re not sorry for flexing this repeatedly), and boy, were we pampered from head to toe. It’s a round-a-clock service, where you can ask your butler assigned to you for anything. From ordering room service, and doing your laundry, to even helping you pack or unpack your luggage, it’s not wrong to mistake yourself being in Buckingham Palace instead. Palace guests also get priority reservations for all the amenities and activities on board, such as spas, dining, performances, excursions and more.

Your butler will check on you from time to time, during your meal times and activities, either to update you on your bookings or get your desired speciality restaurant for the next meal time. Imagine that!

Palace Restaurant

dream cruise genting food

For meals, the Palace restaurant is exclusive to Palace guests! While the restaurant is not halal-certified, you can request a Halal menu, which will be provided by Lido Restaurant.

P.S. If you prefer to dine with less crowd, you can request to have your meal at Palace guests with cutleries and meals provided by Lido Restaurant, the only halal-certified restaurant on the ship.

Balcony Cabin: The most popular choice

dream cruise genting food

If you spend 3 nights in the middle of the sea, a balcony makes the experience more enjoyable! It’s easy to see why the Balcony stateroom is the most popular choice on board the Genting Dream. Besides the balcony that provides a spectacular sea view, it’s also spacious enough for a family of 4!

Family-friendly activities to check out

dream cruise genting food

Cruise ships schedule so many activities that a day at sea can be as fun as a full day of sightseeing. From ropes courses to cosmic bowling, mini golf to water slides (free-of-charge by the way), there's truly something for everyone! Yes, everyone, even your adorable little ones!

dream cruise genting food

The Little Dreamers Club is a special section of Deck 16 dedicated to kids. With beanbags, games and toys to entertain kids between the ages of 2 to 12, this kids club at sea also comes with stunning views through the huge wide windows.

Your kids will love the nearby Kids Water Park, which has a kid-friendly waterslide and water sprays!

dream cruise genting food

Of course, the main pool deck is a highlight not to be missed. Located on Deck 16, there’s one main pool and four jacuzzis for some splashing good fun!

dream cruise genting food

But if you want privacy, here’s something great about being a Palace guest. You have your pool deck (jacuzzi included!), gym and spa! Since there weren’t many guests around, we could enjoy the ENTIRE pool deck to ourselves. It makes you feel like you’re on top of the world!

Lido Restaurant: The World’s First Halal-Certified Restaurant On A Cruise Ship

dream cruise genting food

Here's the real icing on the cake: Resorts World Cruises' new ship serves halal food at Lido Restaurant ! Dig into a buffet of authentic and popular cuisines, such as traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian and local cuisine such as kueh, pastas, and more, for that boost of energy, you'll need to explore the rest of the ship!

dream cruise genting food

For me, I love the noodle soup station. I’m a fan of soupy dishes, and slurping up their delicious chicken noodle soup hits the comfort spot for me, especially when you’re miles away from land - it simply feels like a warm hug! I spotted the ice cream station which makes soft serve ice cream - which the kids (and adults with a sweet tooth like me) will love!

Port of Calls: Kuala Lumpur and Penang

Disembarkation process.

We took the 4D3N itinerary, where we disembarked at two ports of call - Port of Klang in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Genting Dream Cruise offer tours for you to explore KL and Penang in a different light.

Our disembarkation process was smooth from the start! Our butler assisted us from the room till the end. Cruise lines usually keep your passports as it’s easier for immigration to check passports when travelling between different countries, and when we disembark the ship, our passports are returned to us! And yes, if you’re wondering if we Palace guests did get priority to disembark, you’re right! We were escorted to a designated waiting area to facilitate the disembarkation as we were the first group to disembark. Now nothing is stopping us from the fun!

dream cruise genting food

We disembarked at the Port of Klang and embarked on a tour around Kuala Lumpur. If you’re a Palace guest, your butler can help you book a tour for Palace guests, while other passengers can head to the Shore Excursion counter at Deck 6! There are so many to choose from, and we decided to pick out the shopping tour since KL is home to both cheap steals and luxurious goods!

The tour guide brought us to Pavillion via coach, which has over 700 retail outlets - time to shop till you drop, which we did, and boy, did we score lots of loot. After the tour ended, we had some free time, so we just explored the nearby Bukit Bintang area before meeting at the designated pick-up point and heading back to the ship.

Penang tour

dream cruise genting food

On the 3rd day, we headed to Penang ! We decided to try something completely different for a change: explore the vibrant city of Georgetown on a trishaw! This is part of the ‘Colours of Georgetown’ tour. You’ll get to see mural arts and plenty of photo opportunities!

Verdict: are the tours worth it?

It depends on the travel you like, and who you’re travelling with! If you’re travelling by yourself, with your friends, or simply prefer moving at your own pace, exploring the cities on your own would be a much better option. You won’t be restricted to a certain itinerary, and you can move on your own time without rushing about or being rushed. For instance, Penang has a thriving cafe culture that we wanted to visit, however, there weren’t as many offered on the tour we went to.

Genting Dream Cruise offers one-way buses from the ports to KL city and George Town in Penang, so you’re free to roam around! However, just remember to return before the cruise sails off! It’s best not to explore too much or too far. However, if you prefer having your travels planned out for you, or you’re travelling with a large group, perhaps the tours would be the best choice! Everything is planned out for you; sometimes, food is included, albeit not that much.

Furthermore, some tours offer food experiences; however, they may not be halal. Do inform the staff on deck so that they can help you make the necessary arrangements! There are different tour options anyway so surely, one would best suit you!

P.S. If you need some ideas on food, shopping and sightseeing, check out our Kuala Lumpur and Penang tags on our website!

Here’s a side note : you don’t need to leave the ship! You can simply stay in bed and chill the entire day, or explore all the other activities you’ve missed. There were still a number of activities such as rock climbing and high elements that I did not get to do as we spent quite some time onshore!

P.S. To make checking in more efficient, check your assigned check-in timing, which would have been assigned to you 7 days before your cruise. If your reservation was made less than 7 days before your cruise, you will receive your assigned check-in timing 48 hours before your cruise. Palace guests can skip the immigration queue and embark right ahead! Afterwards, you will be escorted by ground crew staff while you wait for our key card at a lounge.

Final verdict? The Genting Dream Cruise is the perfect vacation for everyone of all ages, and you can choose to make it as active or chill as you like! Of course, we won’t stop talking about the amazing butler service, other special privileges as a Palace guest, and how we don’t have to worry about finding halal food while you’re miles away from the land ? Plus, you don’t have to stay on the cruise for the entire trip - this is something I didn’t enjoy when I first boarded the cruise to nowhere. You get to leave and explore KL and Penang, which means more fun activities (and food) await you offshore! If you need a sign, this is it: it’s time to pamper yourself and book a cruise with Genting Dream Cruise via Klook !

What’s New on Genting Dream — Resorts World Cruises Review

dream cruise genting food

Find out what’s new and what’s back on board the new Resorts World Cruises’ Genting Dream!

After having a whale of a time on Dream Cruises’ cruise to nowhere , we were pretty bummed when it ceased operations in March 2022 . Thankfully, it has returned under a new name — Resorts World Cruises !

To find out what’s new and what’s back, we hopped on its inaugural cruise on 15 June 2022. So here’s a preview of what to expect on Genting Dream 🚢.

Click any of the links below to jump straight in .

What’s New  |  On-board Activities  |  Entertainment | Dining Experiences | Accommodation

Pre-boarding Essentials

Resort World Cruises Genting Dream - Singapore Cruise

Before you set sail, here are some pre-boarding essentials to take note of:

1) Mandatory online check-in — closes 24 hours before sailing 2) Take a supervised or tele-supervised ART test and present a negative result — earliest one day prior to sailing 3) Fill up a pre-boarding health questionnaire — on the day of sailing 4) Collect your cruise key card — on the day of sailing 5) Check-in via SafeEntry on the TraceTogether app or token — before boarding the ship

What’s New on Genting Dream

This may be the same ship under Dream Cruises but we’ve sussed out the new stuff.

1) Immersive Activities with Performers

People posing in Brazilian Carnival Dance - Genting Dream

This was one thing I really loved about the cruise. Especially when I spotted my on-board dance instructor on the big stage performance just a couple of hours later!

People Performing on Stage - Genting Dream

The entertainment organisers wanted to create an immersive experience for guests to “dive” into, so guests could interact with the performers even when they were off stage.

An afterparty was held at the dance floor of Zouk Beach Club so the fun doesn’t end when the performance does.

People Dancing at Zouk Night Club - Singapore Cruise

Unfortunately, my dance instructor recognised us so we couldn’t escape the awkward dancing 😅 but at least we still had a great time!

2) Foam Party at Sea

People Partying with Foam - Genting Dream

For those who just want to party (but with an extra kick), here’s a brand new activity: foam party at sea!

Equipped with a giant foam spraying machine, gigantic floats, and water guns, we had a blast blowing foam at each other for two hours and imagining it was snow in hot, humid Singapore.

Don’t worry about the aftermath too. There will be towels provided to help you dry off before you head on to your next activity.

3) World’s First Internationally Halal-certified Kitchen on a Cruise

Genting Dream is not the first cruise ship to serve halal food, but it’s the first with an internationally halal-certified kitchen.

Halal-Certified Buffet - Genting Dream

This is based on OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) and SMIIC (The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standards. The cruise also holds a vegetarian certification by Global Vegetarian Certification Services.

Man in Halal Lift - Singapore Cruise

We even went behind the scenes and discovered that there are dedicated timings and lifts to deliver the food.

From the way the food is prepared and delivered, to the way utensils are washed after — everything is segregated so there is no chance of cross-contamination at all!

While this doesn’t really affect me personally, it helps give my Muslim friends peace of mind when dining on a cruise 🙂.

On-board Activities

Most of the facilities and activities are similar to the previous Dream Cruises, so here’s a recap of what you can expect on this one.

Girl Bowling - Genting Dream

Rain or shine, these are some activities that you can do: arcade, bowling, karaoke, t-shirt or tote bag painting workshops, and workout classes. But prepare to fork out some cash for certain activities.

Boy Painting T-shirt - Singapore Cruise

For example, bowling costs S$10 per game and it’s S$22 to buy a t-shirt to paint on — but at least you’ll get to keep it! We also recommend booking slots for the karaoke room early in advance because demand is really high.

People at Brazilian Carnival Dance Class - Singapore Cruise

If you’re looking to save a few bucks, try the free workout classes instead! Choose from yoga to a couple of dance classes like funk line dancing, hip hop dance, Brazilian carnival dance, and traditional flamenco dance.

We didn’t have time to try them all so we went for the Brazilian carnival dance where we learned different types of dances like the salsa and samba. It’s a one-hour class so expect a lot of hip-shaking, spinning, and sweating. Remember to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated!

People at Waterslide Park - Genting Dream

While we can’t splash around in the sea, we can definitely do so at the on-board waterslide park. There are six different slides to choose from — my personal favourite being the donut-shaped slide which opens up mid-way, allowing you a glimpse of the blue sky before diving back to darkness and into the water.

Girl in Hot Tub - Singapore Cruise

Besides the water slides, there are also pools and hot tubs for you to swim and “chill” in leisurely.

People on High Obstacle Course - Singapore Cruise

But if you don’t want to get wet, try the ziplines, rock climbing wall, high obstacle course, mini-golf, ping pong, or even giant chess.

Girl Playing Mini-golf - Genting Dream

You could even set up a friendly basketball match in the SportsPlex too.

Girl Playing Basketball at SportsPlex - Singapore Cruise

Or dance and party your hearts out to popular hits played by DJs all through the night at Zouk Beach Club.

Party on Dance Floor - Genting Dream

Bonus — Visit the Captain’s Bridge

Controls at Captain's Bridge - Singapore Cruise

Before covid hit, there were organised tours to the captain’s bridge — a control room where the captain and his crew navigate the ship.

Girl Looking at Captain's Bridge from Viewing Room - Singapore Cruise

But due to social distancing restrictions, the tours stopped and we don’t have that luxury anymore. So we were actually glad to discover this hidden gem on board to find out what it’s like!

Girl Looking at Ship Replica in Captain's Bridge Viewing Room - Singapore Cruise

Head up to deck 15 via the lift (forward lobby) and walk past Crystal Life fitness. Turn left and walk all the way to the end. You’ll find a small, hidden room with a clear view of the captain’s bridge, plus a really cool mini replica of the ship to admire!

Entertainment

Couple Doing Balancing Act - Genting Dream

Every day, a newsletter would be delivered to your cabin — with various show and programme schedules so you can plan your day to catch them all!

*Note: The timings are in local (SG) time.

Dance Performance - Singapore Cruise

One highlight not to be missed is definitely the Yin.Yang performance at the Zodiac Theatre. It blends eastern and western entertainment, featuring a world-class array of performances from balancing acts to contemporary dances.

Singing Performance - Genting Dream

I was deeply impressed by one performer in particular, Tong Shaohan, who wowed us with his unique double vocals — singing both female and male parts in a duet.

We were truly shocked, yet in awe when we found out this beautifully dressed lady who sang in a high-pitched voice turned out to be an extremely talented man.

*Pro-tip: Arrive earlier as doors close 10 minutes before showtime and seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dream Boys Performance - Singapore Cruise

Apart from the Yin.Yang show, we also had a sneak peek of Dream Boys (which isn’t new), but is set to make a comeback sometime in July.

Dining Experiences

On the Genting Dream, there are more than 20 dining options including restaurants, cafes and bars — not all are free though, so take note!

Inclusive Restaurants — Complimentary

The Lido Halal Food Buffet - Genting Dream

These are the places where you can eat your fill without any charges.

As mentioned above, Genting Dream has an internationally halal-certified kitchen. However, it’s only limited to food items in The Lido restaurant.

Jain Food Buffet - Genting Dream

But don’t fret because there are still plenty of cuisines to choose from, such as Western, Chinese, and even Jain — for vegetarians with a strict diet of not consuming any food produced underground (including potatoes and carrots).

Girl Eating Dim Sum - Singapore Cruise

For other non-halal options, there’s also the Dream Dining Room Lower and Upper which serve Western and Chinese menus respectively.

*Note: Check the daily newsletter for restaurant breakfast, lunch, and dinner timings. You’ll also be charged an extra S$15 for a second meal during the same meal period.

Specialty Restaurants — Charges Apply

Chef Cooking Food at Umi Uma - Singapore Cruise

The food might be more pricey (from S$60), but speaking from experience, it’s really worth it! During our time on the cruise, we tried two specialty restaurants: Umi Uma (Japanese teppanyaki ) and Bistro (Western).

We ordered the Emperor (steak and seafood) and Samurai (chicken and salmon) set from Umi Uma where the chef cooked our dishes before us. The meat was cooked perfectly and not chewy at all! The salmon also had a flavourful, buttery taste 😋.

Umi Uma Meal with Steak and Fish - Genting Dream

At Bistro, we had a full four-course meal with a seafood salad appetiser, pumpkin soup, and a choice of seafood tower or braised beef cheeks, before ending it off with some sweet panna cotta!

Girl Eating Seafood and Beef - Singapore Cruise

Other dining places include Silk Road Chinese Restaurant, Hot Pot, Lido Outdoor Hotpot and Grill, and Crystal Life Cuisine.

*Pro-tip: Reserve in advance as restaurants can be fully booked during peak hours.

Cafes and Bars — Charges Apply

Girl Holding Cocktail - Genting Dream

Besides restaurants, you can grab some light meals at cafes like Lobby Cafe and Blue Lagoon, or even cool down at Gelateria with some homemade gelato.

There are also various bars all around the cruise for alcohol-lovers — open all day till late. Check out Bar 360 for drinks and live music, Mixt for its innovative cocktails, or Tributes which has indoor and outdoor seating coupled with entertaining performances.

Accommodation

Genting Dream offers various room options, from balcony to oceanview staterooms and even palace suites.

Balcony Deluxe Stateroom

Balcony Deluxe Stateroom on Cruise - Singapore Cruise

We stayed in a Balcony Deluxe Stateroom which consisted of a queen-sized bed, a large sofa, a bathroom, and of course, a balcony overlooking the sea. To be honest, I was really surprised by how spacious the room is.

Bathroom with Bath tub - Singapore Cruise

We were also lucky to find a bathtub in our bathroom (apparently, not every room has it) and the dual-tap sink was way bigger than the one in my home.

Sunset View on Cruise - Genting Dream

But the best part of the room would have to be the balcony — where we got a gorgeous view of the sunrise.

Cost: From ~S$550/pax for three nights

Palace Suite

We didn’t have time to tour the Palace Suite but this is what it’ll look like:

Palace Suite Room on Cruise - Singapore Cruise

It looks pretty similar to the Balcony Deluxe Stateroom, but the private balcony is twice as big! Staying in a palace suite also gives guests certain perks like access to exclusive restaurants and programmes, as well as a 24-hour butler service 😏.

Cost: From ~S$1,100/pax for three nights

Is Resorts World Cruises’ Genting Dream Worth Checking Out?

Resorts World Cruises Main Deck - Genting Dream

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been on a cruise (I’m talking about 10 years ago-long), so I was really excited to just hop onto a ship once again!

I was glad that the water slides still remained and I could have fun like a kid again without any reserve. Being older now, I could also appreciate the fine dining experience of a full-course meal and of course, drinking alcohol 🍷.

Girl Eating Breakfast Buffet - Singapore Cruise

The halal-certified food also didn’t taste any different from usual and I stuffed myself with plenty of different options. The highlight of my cruise though was interacting with the performers when they weren’t on stage and discovering more about their culture.

Fun fact: Do you know why Brazilians dance so well? According to my Brazilian dance instructor, Gabrielle, most kids there start learning from 10 years old!

Girl on Balcony with Sea View - Genting Dream

With Resorts World Cruises as a new cruise line, we now have more options to set sail from Singapore’s ports. Although we didn’t dock anywhere this time, the automatic time change when we were near Indonesia made us feel like we were overseas.

Starting 1 July, the cruise will also sail internationally to Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand! You can make your reservations online with prices starting from ~S$149 per person (book by 3 July 2022) 🤩.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
