GH Lab tests found that its stainless steel, vacuum-insulated body kept drinks hot and cold for hours, and it was quite leakproof. This 10-ounce travel mug from Avana is perfectly sized for espresso-based drinks, but it's also available in 20-ounce and 30-ounce versions. Kitchen Appliances & Innovation Lab Director Nicole Papantoniou likes that the simple two-piece design is easy to clean because the lid is just one solid piece, unlike many other lids. Its large battery on the bottom — the manufacturer claims a 10-hour battery life — kept coffee hot (above the target temp of 135˚F) for the full four hours of our Lab tests . Once you get the hang of the controls at the bottom of the mug, the clear digital readout is helpful in setting the temperature and turning off the mug. This travel mug also aced our leak tests. Our tester noted that while the push-button lid is easy to use, the edge of the button can bump your lip while drinking.

Though we have not tested this pick in the Lab, we like its focus on giving back: T he bottom of each travel mug is printed with a "Give Code" that you can enter at Mirr's website for details on the brand's corporate giving , which is funded through every purchase. The Flip Traveler is available in several colors and 12-ounce and 16-ounce sizes .

Starbucks Classic Green & White Traveler Tumbler Coffee Mug

Starbucks fans will appreciate that they can purchase this mug online rather than solely in the stores. The ceramic mug is easy to use — the lid just pops into place and is surrounded by a rubber seal to help keep it (and the coffee) in place — and easy to clean . "It keeps coffee warm like a standard ceramic mug would, and the lid helps to keep things a little warmer for longer," our tester says. "I like that it's not scalding hot like in a metal mug, so I can enjoy my coffee without burning my mouth." The 12-oz size is perfect for refills of Starbucks tall drinks.

Our tester found that the travel mug will chill your coffee rapidly without watering it down with ice cubes. (The brand actually uses the same concept for its ice cream maker .) One caveat is that the freezable core holds only 11 ounces, which some might find too small.

It's microwave (and dishwasher!) safe, which makes it a great option if you like to reheat your coffee throughout the day. Since the glass is clear, it's easy to see how much coffee you have left — and hit your preferred shade when you add your creamer. Take note that the lid does not seal shut, so while it might be handy for car commuting, this isn't one that's great for tossing in your bag.

Many of the mugs on this list were tested at home over months (even over commutes) to assess their durability, ease of use and temperature retention.

Our pros also evaluate the mugs for stability, cleanability and comfort of both holding and drinking. They test whether the mug is easy to open and close, and they drop each mug to assess its durability. To test for leaking, our pros roll the mug around on its side as well as turn it upside down and shake it vigorously.

How to find the best travel coffee mug for you

When shopping for a travel mug, there are a few important questions to consider:

• Is the mug insulated? Insulated travel mugs can keep your drinks hot or cold for much longer periods of time. Most of the top-rated options on the market have stainless steel or glass interiors. Some options are also double-walled (or double-insulated), meaning there is an air pocket between the two layers of insulation to keep liquids hot and prevent the cup from overheating.

Christmas may have arrived a little earlier this year if you're a coffee lover . 

Starbucks has officially released its holiday cup line up ahead of the winter season. 

“The holidays are right around the corner and Starbucks is getting ready to deck the halls with a preview of this year’s top gifts,” according to the Starbucks website.

The line of festive cold cups and tumblers will hit brick-and-mortar stores nationwide very soon. Prices range from $5 to $28 depending on the size, material and design of the cup.  

The Starbucks Christmas and Holiday Blend will also be available in one-pound bags for $15.95, available in decaf, ground, or whole bean.

The average UK coffee drinker will sip on almost 62,000 mug-fulls of coffee over their lifetime

The average UK coffee drinker will sip on almost 18,000 litres - or 62,000 mug-fulls - of coffee over their lifetime. A poll of 2,000 adults, who consume coffee, found they enjoy an average of three cups a day, with 7am being the most popular time for the first brew. As many as 41 per cent revealed they struggle to function properly until they’ve had their first caffeine kick. But it’s a case of cappucci-NO when it comes to trying something new - with 43 per cent of consumers admitting they've ordered the same coffee for 21 years. Following the study, Breville, which commissioned the research, has opened a pop-up 'Spill The Beans' café to inspire coffee fans to be more adventurous with the drink. And the home appliances brand has also created a quiz where coffee lovers can put their knowledge of the beverage to the test. Spokesperson for the brand, Iain Stuart-Crush, said: "As the study shows, UK consumers can't get enough of coffee. "As anyone who loves a cup will tell you, it very quickly becomes an established part of our daily routines. "But it’s interesting to see how many people aren’t sure whether they’re making the best out of their coffee at home. "Perhaps this is why so many people prefer to leave it in the hands of the baristas more often than not. "We want to show consumers that they can make delicious, barista quality coffee from their kitchen with our latest espresso machine innovation." The most popular type of coffee among those polled is latte (21 per cent), followed by cappuccino (20 per cent), americano (18 per cent) and flat white (15 per cent). But nearly 74 per cent admitted they have no idea which type of coffee bean is used to make their favourite cuppa. And while 80 per cent have heard of the Arabica variety, many don’t recognise the three other popular types. A third have heard of Robusta, but only nine per cent know of Liberica and just eight per cent are familiar with Excelsa. Surprisingly, the study, carried out through OnePoll, found 51 per cent don’t know the difference between a cold brew and an iced coffee. The key difference being cold brew is made from coffee grounds, steeped in cold water for 12 hours, whereas iced coffee is cooled regular coffee. Using the new Breville Barista Signature Espresso Maker, founder of Artisan Coffee Co. Ashley Palmer-Watts, gave visitors to the pop-up café with coffee making advice. He said: “People often find themselves sticking to the same coffee they’ve been drinking for years, not fully exploring the rich world of coffee. "It was great to be at the Spill the Beans Café with Breville to help coffee-lovers master the art of homebrewing and teaching people all about the depth of coffee. "I want to help people understand their coffee choices and give them the confidence to explore different ways of drinking coffee including from the comfort of their own home.” ASHLEY PALMER-WATTS' TIPS FOR CREATING THE PERFECT COFFEE AT HOME: START WITH A WARM MUG Run it under hot water before making your coffee, to keep your coffee piping hot for longer LEARN TO ‘TAMP’ When using an espresso machine, tamping is essential to ensure the coffee bed is level. If it’s not level, the water won’t run through it evenly, resulting in an uneven extraction. Tamp down firmly until the grounds aren’t moving down anymore, then check the tamp is level with the rim of the basket. FREEZE YOUR COFFEE BEANS This helps maintain the freshness of the beans to make them last double the length of time. Once you’ve defrosted the beans, don’t re-freeze them, and make sure they’re sealed to keep them fresh.
