First of all the show was not a CONCERT! It was more of an exploration of what Hatsune Miku and the vocaloid music is all about. My daughter and her friend were expecting to see Hatsune Miku perform for most of the show, but instead we had an introduction of loud music and extremely bright flashing images, which seemed to last forever. Miku only performed about three or four songs and the rest was talking,done by a Japanese guy. The so called "concert" lasted maximum 45minutes. I didn't know I was paying nearly £400 for THAT! The description on the Songkick site wasn't clear at all.

Then we had the painfully long Q&A session,with the creators rumbling on. There was a promise of some selfies with Hatsune Miku at the end, but when nearly an hour later, the creators were still talking without us hearing much, we decided to leave. The drive back home was going to take us at least an hour and a half and it was nearly 10pm by then.

The whole experience was very disappointing and I would never buy tickets on this site again.

This ten thousand capacity room is sold out tonight for the huge artist Hatsune Miku, who is sort of not even real. It’s actually a humanoid persona voice by a singing synthesizer application developed by Crypton Future Media. She “performs” on stage as a projection. When she takes to this stage this evening, the audience goes absolutely insane, which is surely quite strange because she’s not even real, though she performs with a live band, who are made up of some fantastic musicians, who engage in dueling guitar solos in this first song “Secret Police”. There is something about Hatsune Miku that just freaks me out a little bit because she’s not real, but she sort of is because it’s a hologram, that so many people have paid good money to go and see, nor do I know how to give it any acclaim because, well she’s not real. The atmosphere is absolutely wild, as though she is the biggest thing since sliced bread. It is as though she is a ruler of this people. Goodness me. No words.

oh, it was awesome. I don't think i will ever have ANYTHING be as fun as that was. Even know my seat was kinda far from the stage, i could still hear everything! I cannot wait to come to another one! "worth dragging my mom to! she even liked it, and she doesn't like anything!" And i had dressed up "cosplayed",originally expecting to be about the only one to do that, but i was wrong,Because other people did too! "made me feel SO much better!"

The concert was awesome! I got lucky and found a really good spot on a balcony from which I could see everything perfectly (I was worried since I'm very short and it was open floor and crowded). The show was on time and everything was perfect--we could hear the Vocaloid's voices clearly and the animation was so high quality and clear. The band (and opening act) were great, and they did multiple encores at the end of the show.

Really cool visual effects. The more you look at the holograms the realer they look! Definitely better on the main floor in the crowd than in a balcony.

Being virtual it’s hard to want to clap because of there being no feedback from the performers. Same went for the encore where it was pretty much silent for a while until they came back on stage.

The band playing with the group was really good!

All the surprise artists, the many customs Hatsune Miku used were great as were the songs obviously.

Wish the organizers had used English (my concert was in Germany and a lot of them spoke German which I don't understand). Would definitely go again. (I flew in from a different country)

I'm going to it because I din't see it, but my best friend did, he told me all about it, he get me to like her, but if she was real, I'm going to sing fnaf songs to her and see how she'll feel, back to were I was, if don't ever see a miku concert, it will brake my hart, so I'm gonna be one miku's best fans

The music itself was outstanding, absolutely amazing. The only thing was that the Ziggodome didn't make a golden circle for VIP guests. Normal guests could just push their way to the front where VIP was supposed to be.

It was amazing, a better perfomence than Cologne Last year..

Nice Rock Metal parts Mixed with nice EDM and Pop Songs.. crowd was nice to and The atmosphere Just incredible..

Live band was great! Really enjoyed the holograms as well, and the bit where they made her speak Dutch was really cute. Syncing your glow stick color up with the singer on stage was also fun.

What is Hatsune Miku?

Hatsune Miku is a Japanese music sensation, a 16 year-old blue-haired girl with a unique voice and prodigious energy.

What makes her special is that she is not a human singer, but a virtual persona who uses a computer-generated voice and 3D graphics to perform on stage. With a repertoire entirely provided by individual creators, she is the first truly crowd-created virtual talent. • Description: The seventeenth installment in Crypton Future Media 's annual HATSUNE MIKU EXPO concert series, this is the first in-person MIKU EXPO since the cancellation of the 2020 North American tour following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It spans 17 different cities across Canada, the USA, and Mexico and also marks the 10th anniversary of the MIKU EXPO series. The theme for the event is "American Comic Super Heroes". Four contests were held in conjuction with the tour, as well as the event's 10th anniversary.

The HATSUNE MIKU EXPO 10th Anniversary Song Contest was held in collaboration with digital store SONICWIRE, where creators could submit a 3–4 minute song sung only by Hatsune Miku. The theme for the song contest was "Universal Positivity". The grand-prize winner would have their song performed during the tour, as well as receiving a pair of tickets to any of the tour's shows, 100,000 JPY voucher for music production products from SONICWIRE, and an assortment of Hatsune Miku and Piapro Characters goods. Two runner-ups would receive a pair of tickets for the tour, 30,000 JPY worth of points from SONICWIRE, and an assortment of goods.

The winning song was later announced to be " M@GICAL☆CURE! LOVE ♥ SHOT! " by SAWTOWNE.

The HATSUNE MIKU EXPO 10th Anniversary Costume Design Contest was held where illustrators could submit a design for Miku to wear when performing the winning contest song for the tour. The winning illustrator would have their design be made for the winning song, and be rewarded with a pair of tickets for the tour and assortment of goods. The theme for the contest was "Universal Positivity".

The winning design was later announced to be illustrated by NICOYUKA and Narushima.

The HATSUNE MIKU EXPO 10th Anniversary Song Remix Contest was held in collaboration with digital store SONICWIRE, where producers can create and submit there own remixes of the 10th anniversary theme song "Intergalactic Bound". The winning producer will have their remix be considered for inclusion as a bonus track on the MIKU EXPO 10th Anniversary CD and receive a 100,000 JPY voucher for music production products from SONICWIRE. Runner-ups will have their remixes be considered for inclusion as bonus track on the MIKU EXPO 10th Anniversary CD and receieve a 20,000 JPY worth of points from SONICWIRE.

The HATSUNE MIKU EXPO 10th Anniversary Illustration Contest was held in collaboration with pixiv where illustrators could submit artwork featuring the piapro characters. The theme for the contest is "Universal Positivity". 6 winning illustrators whose artworks are chosen for the "Award of Excellence" will have their works be included in the official MIKU EXPO booklet, exhibited at the Los Angeles animate store as part of the MIKU EXPO × pixiv exhibit. Runner-ups whose artworks are chosen for the "pixiv Award" will have their works exhibited at the MIKU EXPO × pixiv exhibit.

Crunchyroll is teaming up with Crypton Future Media for Hatsune Miku Expo 2024 North America Tour. This event will come to 16 cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. 

Hatsune Miku celebrates her 16th anniversary this year with major announcements. These announcements includes Fitness Boxing Feat. Hatsune Miku: Isshoni Exercise  and Project Voltage collaboration with The Pokémon Company . Fans in North America may also look forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary of Hatsune Miku Tour. 

Hatsune Miku Expo 2024 North America

The upcoming Hatsune Miku Expo 2024 North America tour allows fans to celebrate the creative culture of Hatsune Miku across many major cities. Fans can expect concerts and sub-events full of fun activities through April and May 2024. Pre-sale access and ticket onsale will open soon, so those interested in joining the festivities may begin to plan out their trip soon. 

Crunchyroll Premium members will receive an email on September 14 at 7 a.m. PDT / 10 a.m. EDT with an exclusive code for pre-sale access. The pre-sale code may be used on the official Miku Expo website to purchase tickets. Non-Crunchyroll subscribers, Miku Expo general ticket onsale will begin on September 22 at 7 a.m. PDT / 10 a.m. EDT.

Miku Expo is a world concert tour series with sub-events that allows fans of all backgrounds to celebrate the creative culture surrounding Hatsune Miku. 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the Miku Expo.

What is Hatsune Miku? Hatsune Miku is the world’s most famous virtual singer, a girl with a computer-generated voice and 3D graphics that enable her to perform on stage in front of a live audience as well as appear in games, TV commercials, and hundreds of thousands of online videos.

• Mon., April 8, 2024 @ 8pm
• Tues., April 9, 2024 @ 8pm

•  Early entry at 6pm
•  Exclusive gift provided at check-in

Upon your arrival at 6pm, proceed to the VIP check-in area at the main entrance to check in and pick up your gift – be prepared to show your ticket and a valid photo ID.

Crunchyroll and Crypton Future Media, INC is announcing today the HATSUNE MIKU EXPO 2024 North America powered by Crunchyroll, coming to 16 cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

MIKU EXPO  is a world concert tour series with sub-events that allows fans of all backgrounds to celebrate the creative culture surrounding Hatsune Miku. 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the MIKU EXPO tour.

Crunchyroll Premium members can expect an email on September 14, 2023 at 7 AM PST with an exclusive code for Premium-only pre-sale access. Fans can head on over to the  MIKU EXPO website  and use the presale code to purchase tickets!

For non-Crunchyroll subscribers, MIKU EXPO General Ticket Onsale will take place on September 22, 2023 at 7AM PST.

Costumes & Make-up

We welcome your costumes and make-up!  As you prepare for the event, please keep in mind the following:

• remove masks/hats/headgear so your face is completely unobscured for entry through security screening.
• leave all costume weapons at home (not even faux weapons are allowed in the venue!).
• remove your masks/hats/headgear for age verification at concessions.
• during the performance, be considerate of those seated around you and remove costume elements that may block others' view or protrude into their seating area.

Glow Sticks: Chemical glow sticks 6" and under are permitted but bring your own; there will not be any give-aways.

DO NOT bring your own LED lights, flashlights, or battery-powered glow sticks unless they are official Miku glow sticks (from this or a previous Miku concert/tour) because they may interfere with the concert performance.

Official, concert-approved, battery-powered glow sticks with 7 changeable colors will be available for purchase at the event.

PLEASE BE AWARE: Haze and Confetti are used in this production.

Sensory Bags

Sensory bags, equipped with noise cancelling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards and weighted lap pads are available to guests who may feel overwhelmed by the environment. Sensory bags and lap pads can be found at the coat check window.

Cancellation of HATSUNE MIKU EXPO 2020 USA & Canada

Dear Hatsune Miku fans and supporters,

Earlier this year, Crypton Future Media announced the postponement of the HATSUNE MIKU EXPO 2020 USA & Canada concert tour on two separate occasions, most recently announcing in June the postponement of the rescheduled September and October show dates. This decision was made with the sincere hope that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic would soon be on a path to containment, allowing for another rescheduling of the tour for 2021.

Unfortunately, given the current trajectory of the disease in North America and worldwide, it has become more and more clear that the conditions to hold the event while guaranteeing the health and safety of our fans and crews will very likely not be met within the next year. After much consideration, it is with heavy hearts that we have made the decision to cancel MIKU EXPO 2020 USA & Canada. For inquiries on ticket refunds, please contact your ticket vendor.

What is Hatsune Miku?

Hatsune Miku is a Japanese music sensation, a 16 year-old blue-haired girl with a unique voice and prodigious energy.

What makes her special is that she is not a human singer, but a virtual persona who uses a computer-generated voice and 3D graphics to perform on stage. With a repertoire entirely provided by individual creators, she is the first truly crowd-created virtual talent. But being virtual doesn't stop her from filling up concert halls, or teaming up with major artists like Lady Gaga and Pharrell Williams!

Internationally popular with over 2.5 million followers on social media, the increasing demand for concerts overseas paved the way to MIKU EXPO, a global tour which since 2014 has taken Hatsune Miku to Indonesia, the United States, China, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Europe! In 2019, MIKU EXPO is celebrating 5 years of international shows.

Hatsune Miku is playing Coachella, but she's not human. Why brands are working with digital avatars

On Friday night, Hatsune Miku performs songs on her biggest stage yet — Coachella.

The turquoise-haired Japanese icon has been touring North America, singing to thousands of fans in large concert venues. She's inked branding deals over the years with companies including Google . And on Friday, she's expected to thrill her followers at one of the world's biggest music festivals — on the same day as Lana Del Rey and the Deftones.

But Miku is not human. She's a totally digital creation, like an online avatar or mascot.

Her music — mostly synthesizer-heavy dance pop — is created from software developed by the Sapporo, Japan-based technology company Crypton Future Media.

The technology lets people, including fans, type in lyrics and punch in a melody. The program generates a singing voice for the song. Crypton then licenses the songs from the fans for her to sing at concerts. Miku herself is an illustrated character, resembling a 16-year-old girl from an anime or manga. To "perform" onstage, Miku's image is displayed on a giant screen as a video behind a live band.

Unlike the "hologram" performances of deceased celebrity artists (think Tupac and Roy Orbison) that took the music industry by storm a few years ago, virtual artists aren't simply re-creations — they're avatars performing original music.

As it would be for a local indie rock artist, landing a spot at Coachella is a significant milestone for Miku. And her human creators. One of the people from Crypton who will be there at Miku's performance at the festival's Mojave tent is Riki Tsuji, a member of the company's global business team.

"I've never been to Coachella, so I have no idea what kind of people are going there, what the crowds are gonna be like," said Tsuji, who is traveling with Miku on tour. "But we'll be putting together a show that hopefully they won't forget."

Hatsune Miku is part of an expanding group of digital, non-human performers that are attracting the attention of brands and music fans.

They've generated fans from younger generations of audiences that brands are eager to attract and understand — the kinds of kids who spend two to three hours a day on average on Fortnite and Roblox and are thus comfortable interacting with digital characters and online worlds.

One non-human digital influencer, named Miquela, boasts 2.6 million followers on Instagram and has done commercials for Calvin Klein and BMW . She's represented by major Hollywood talent firm Creative Artists Agency, best known for working with A-listers including Brad Pitt and Viola Davis.

"There's a new paradigm in terms of the digital world and the digital landscape," said Phil Quist, a music and emerging technology agent at CAA. "When you think about what that looks like moving forward, those kids are going to be so used to being in those realms that a lot of their entertainment is going to come from that space as well."

How much money a nonhuman virtual artist can earn varies widely., Gigs, ranging from social media posts to live performances, can generate up to nearly seven figures, Quist said.

"It ranges, but it's very commensurate in terms of the following and engagement," Quist said. "I think it can be comparable to 'traditional talent' in terms of what those deals look like."

In addition to her Coachella appearance, Miku is putting on a North American tour, which includes 21 concerts in 17 cities. Initially, Miku announced 17 performances , but the tour expanded because of demand, Tsuji said.

Miku began as a singing voice synthesizer (a.k.a. a "vocaloid") in 2007. Her voice has been used in more than 100,000 songs.

"She's very much a vessel for people to kind of express themselves and come together as a community," Tsuji said. "It's not just an artist-listener relationship. Each listener could also be an artist in this community."

But the growth of nonhuman influencers comes at a time when actual performers are worried about how digitization and automation through artificial intelligence could impact future work. The cost of creating a digital avatar could become cheaper as technology evolves. Human influencers could find themselves competing for the same brand deals as nonhuman ones.

The fandom surrounding digital artists can rival that of human musicians. During Austin's South by Southwest festival in 2022, fans uploaded videos from a concert by digital music artist angelbaby, singing along to the songs.

Angelbaby, a computer-generated humanoid rapping rabbit, is owned by Hume, an L.A.-based metaverse tech and music company, which is now represented by CAA. Angelbaby's single, "life is good," which was released in November, hit more than 4 million streams on Spotify.

"At the end of the day, if the music wasn't good for those artists, people would potentially point fingers and laugh," Quist said. Looking at angelbaby, "you could tell that people were so engaged and enamored by the performance."

The idea behind angelbaby came from Hume co-founders David Beiner and Jay Stolar. Stolar is a songwriter and producer who has worked with performers including Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.

Hume created a backstory for angelbaby, a seven-foot rabbit from the year 3045, who is coping with losing the love of his life. Angelbaby has appeared on recordings with Grammy-winning producer Gino the Ghost and human music artists including boy band Prettymuch. The rabbit's fans lean male and are in their 20s into their early 30s, Beiner said.

"I think on the emotional level if you do it right, people like to feel like they're part of a fantasy," Beiner said. "People have always liked to escape."

Much of the work for virtual artists comes from partnerships with brands, who want to tap the performers' younger, digitally savvy followers.

For example, Miquela — whose character is a socially conscious digital influencer from Downey — was featured in a commercial for BMW's iX2 electric vehicle. The bulk of Miquela's fans are under 35.

"When you think about the BMW vehicle that came out that's 100% electric," said Ridhima Ahuja Kahn, vice president of business development and strategic initiatives at Dapper Labs, the company behind Miquela. "That was something that was really compelling to her because it tied in with a lot of her goals around sustainability."

But like human influencers, there can also be some controversy surrounding digital ones.

Miquela's ad with Calvin Klein showed her kissing model Bella Hadid, which some people online criticized as queer-baiting. Calvin Klein later said, "We sincerely regret any offense we caused." Dapper Labs said it stands by the direction of the ad, which was to support all different types of backgrounds, genders and preferences.

"With virtual influencers, even they have drama too, just like any real-life influencer," Ahuja Kahn said.

Many people worry that digital talent could take away human jobs. Last summer, writers and actors went on strike in part for more protections against the use of artificial intelligence.

"Anyone in the entertainment industry at large is very cognizant that a human resource of being on camera or being filmed or even writing a script or even editing a movie is being absorbed by what AI and technology can do," said Elsa Ramo, a managing partner at Ramo Law PC.

But supporters of nonhuman talent say that the work can lead to more innovation, and, ultimately, jobs for the people who build the non-human influencers, although they acknowledge that AI will lead to more efficiency, which in turn will impact other jobs.

Ilian Gazut created Zlu, a blue alien model represented by management firm IMG Models who has done work for fashion designers like Karl Lagerfeld . Gazut said that Zlu's movements are based on his movements.

"There is always a human behind it," Gazut said. "So in my case, I didn't have a job and thanks to him, I have a job."

The world of digital, nonhuman influencers continue to evolve. Miquela, who made her first post in 2016, was originally conceived as being perpetually 19, but recently, the character made the jump to her 20s. And prospective schools are noticing.

"There are a few colleges who have reached out to us, so she's looking at those and currently thinking about what the right fit for her would be and if college makes sense," Ahuja Kahn said. "She's been exploring what that path would look like for her."
