I see all of you complaining about the RA. With all due respect, don't you realize that we aren't in the 90s anymore, and that the modern game has moved on to stiffer frames? Sure, the pocketing, touch and flex feel from a low RA is great, but it isn't viable in today's game. If your goal isn't to win but to simply reminisce, then go out and buy the original. You should be happy that they've produced a stiffer version of the frame that can hold up to the mass of the ball today's tweener frames produce. Also, it isn't 68-70RA, so it's not a bazooka. Look at this release as a positive and enjoy the 2.0 for what it is - an update.

And before you chime in combatting my claim that 'low RA isn't viable in today's game' with posts about Murray, Cilic, etc, please understand that I'm a firm believer that all else being equal, if they used stiffer frames, it would only help their game. When I say they aren't viable, I mean they aren't viable in the context of non-pro players as compared to using a stiffer frame.

My feeling is that the frame probably won't live up to the nostalgia but I could be wrong.

Kudos to TW and Head for bringing this racket to life. I'd love to see 2.0 versions of other classics like the PS85, the (PK) Black Ace, also.

is the 360+ prestige layup different from that in pt2.0? (i note that marketing is different, but in reality if they were the same mould, weight, string pattern, would they be the same thing?)

I recently sold my pair of PT630. Fantastic frames, feel really great, ball cupping effect is indeed unique, lots of plow, and really cool for nostalgic sessions. But it's not necessarily better or worse than others out there. I prefer the feel of my Ultra Tours when I hit spot on for instance. The problem with them is that they're no good when it comes to winning matches, at least in my level (4.0ish). Too sluggish, head is too small, flexes too much so it's hard to generate power and tough on the arm if you don't swing it fully or miss the minute sweetspot, it's much harder to apply spin compared to modern frames, it's not whippy enough making it virtually impossible to hit a semi decent shot if you're half late on the stroke or playing defense... anyway, not so say that it's not a great freaking stick, but most people shouldn't be playing with it in today's fast game, unless they have VERY consistent technique and mad fitness level.

Born in the 90's and the only frame I played with before this release is the PT 280 from an old coach of mine. Bought two of the Pro Tour 2.0 since it's limited edition. Currently playing with the Blade v7 18x20 so I'm definitely excited to try these Head Frames! I just got them today! Super fast shipping from TW.

BTW, Djokovic's stick has an RA of 60. No you don't need to play with super stiff power frames to win even at the highest levels.

Why does every other two-bit rec player on this forum act like they know what equipment would be better for top ranked pros? "Oh, Player X will win slams if he switches to a high swingweight and gets rid of his toy racket" "Player Y is good, but he would be really good if he switched to modern frame with a higher RA". At a certain level, people stop pinning their successes and failures on equipment.

Hi guys, I just got one of these. 12.1 ounces, 32mm balance, 330SW. I took it to drills yesterday. It's a pretty cool stick, especially with the Lynx strings. I'm told they are string at 46lbs. Touch and volleys are great. Amazing even. Ground strokes will take a while as I am used to racquets with a looser pattern. I feel like a loose a little on my whippy forehand and Kick serve but accuracy, touch and feel are exceptional. I find it has more power than my Ultra tour. It feels great!.

Sorry to bump this up even if its no more relevant but I came across this old thread with great amusement. A high powered racquet with little sweetspot is not modern. Think of six one. I guess e.g. OP isn’t running very much around the court or is playing old school serve and volley. If the ProTour 2.0 had lower stiffness it wouldn’t suit suchly playing customer base and would require bigger swings. It’s about marketing and targeting and it seems like OP has found the stick for his game, good for him. Maybe the low price contributes to absolutely cheap production with no special technology.

Why do you think head brought this racket out to begin with ? I’d assume just to get all the old fogies off their back and release the damn 630 again . But why did they make this stiffer one without the Kevlar ingredient?

The PT2.0 is a great frame, played with it regularly for almost a year. Super dense string pattern, excellent for pinpoint precision, the stringbed has a very consistent feel on contact, it’s got fantastic control and feel for volleys, and it’s actually got quite a bit of punch for groundstrokes. That said, the sweet spot feels a bit small, can sometimes feel a little jarring when hitting outside of it. I only really realized how small the sweet spot is when I started hitting with the TF40, which is more forgiving and comfortable. The TF40 is easier to use but doesn’t have quite the precision or the amazing feel on volleys as the PT2.0.

Im glad head made an effort to appease the vocal fans (me, really, in my posts on TT) by releasing a djokerish prostockish racquet like wilson did with the rf97. but the watered down argument i have heard about 150 times that “you suck at tennis and you arent worthy of the true king arthur sword in the stone racquet and if you try to play with djokovic racquet your arm will get gangrene and you will die in a hospital bed, soiling your bed pan with your final thought being “God i wish i had listened to head and realized it would be reckless to expose my virgin arm to the sheer power of the ultimate pros racquet, why did i not listen to them ohhh woe is me….”” yeah, we get it. We arent pros. But only letting pros use pro racquets is like only letting dentists use a rotating toothbrush. Let ppl quench their curiosity ffs! Its not like the middle age ppl who buy a pt117b and dont play as good as expected are going to flame head and post on TT that head makes the worst racquets on the planet and completely total their tennis depts business. They will accept that its not the racquet for them, and probably buy a newer head model the next day. its almost like head does this keep away **** as some sort of psychological marketing ploy to spread legends and rumors of the magical mystical pro stock racquets that mere mortals are not worthy of. dear head tennis, tennis players are rich, which is to say, NOT STUPID…so stop treating us like we are eh?

HEAD Pro Tour 2.0 Review – First Impressions

head tour pro 2.0

I have had my first hit with the HEAD Pro Tour 2.0 and here is the first part of my HEAD Pro Tour 2.0 Review: my first impressions.

This post will later be updated with some footage of my first hit with the HEAD Pro Tour 2.0. I didn’t think I would be able to find a tennis court, but if you’re desperate enough…

The HEAD Pro Tour 2.0 is the rebirth of a classic. It has the same design as the original , but a stiffer layup. It also lacks Twaron, a material that the hardcore Pro Tour 630/280 fans claim to be the magic ingredient. So how does it compare to the legendary Head Pro Tour 630/280? A more full-length HEAD Pro Tour 2.0 Review is to come, but here are my first impressions.

HEAD Pro Tour 2.0 – First impressions

head tour pro 2.0

Most players were worried about the listed stiffness rating of 65 RA strung from the Tennis Warehouse spec page . I can safely say that this seems high. When you are hitting with the HEAD Pro Tour 2.0, you’re getting that classic, plush feel that the PT57 line of racquet got famous for. Perhaps it is not quite as plush and flexy as the original, but it is damn close.

I would put this racquet somewhere in between the iPrestige MP (PT57E) and the HEAD Pro Tour 630/280 (PT57A). It is a crisper form of the latter. You get some extra free power and stability compared to the original, but sacrifice a little bit of flex and feel. I think this one is easier to swing and use, so it is a tradeoff I am willing to take.

Some player ask about the grip shape. Most HEAD racquets come with the rounder pallets these days (TK82S), but the HEAD Pro Tour 2.0 has the more rectangular TK82 pallet. My specs for this play-test were: 339g, 32 cm balance (7 pts HL) and 327.5 SW. With a dampener, I am sure it climbed up to 330.

You need to be on your game

head tour pro 2.0

As you probably know, I have a lot of love for this racquet. The great blend of precision and connection to the ball is hard to beat. It is one of the best racquets of all time, no doubt about it. But the time I thought I played my best tennis with heavy 95 sq inch racquets is gone. These days I appreciate a more forgiving head size and sweet spot. Comparing this racquet to a customized HEAD Gravity (they are both in the 330 SW range), the Gravity was just a lot easier to use. Yes, it does not give me the control of the PT 2.0, but it is easier to generate spin and depth. And the improved consistency with a larger sweet spot is definitely a factor. I am not Tommy Haas.

Compared to other 95 sq inch racquets it is great though. And the re-launch of HEAD Pro Tour makes it possible to try this legendary frame without hunting down expensive PT57A pro stocks on forums. It is still a great frame, but it also sobers you up about your own tennis-playing abilities. If you want to be consistent and win matches, you are likely better off with another frame. If you are all about enjoying the feeling of hitting the ball in practice, the HEAD Pro Tour 2.0 might be your new best friend.

Great work getting to a court! It’s also possible now in the UK thankfully.

I’m not saying this racket isn’t good or your review accurate, but I have concerns about this and similar rackets that are only available from TW. Is this really a Head, when it’s not even on their website? There are other ‘classic’ frames available from TW like the Prince POG and Wilson 6.1 95 that similarly have slightly different paintjobs to the originals. I slightly suspect that TW has arranged to produce these under license from the original manufacturers, using third-party manufacturers. I’m sure they can get great materials and turn out a quality product, but is it really a Head/Wilson/Prince? To me it looks like a classic marketing arrangement to attract nostalgic people, but at the same time I feel it slightly diminishes the original product.

What do you think? Does it seem like a real Head or are there any clues that look different to you? In fairness, it’s highly likely that all the big companies use the same manufacturers in China, so it’s not really ‘fake’, but I would rather see identical re-issues than slightly different versions.

Anyway, what’s your plan for the other strings? I saw you had it quite high for a 18×20. What about a full bed of multi or a softer hybrid at 52lbs?

Keep up the good work! Cheers.

A blast from the past. From the paint job to the feel, this racket is everything we like about 90’s tennis.

head tour pro 2.0

String Pattern

The number of strings running horizontally and vertically across the racket. A more dense pattern (18×20) offers more stability, while a more open pattern (16×19) offers more spin, power, and feel.

Racket Weight

Generally, beginners should stick to lightweight or medium rackets (less than 11oz). More advanced players, however, should choose medium or heavy rackets (more than 11oz). (Learn more)

Swing Weight

Swing weight is a calculated by using the racket’s weight and balance. The greater the swing weight, the more power a player will get. (Learn more)

Balance means where most of the weight is centered in the racket. Head heavy rackets (HH) offer more power, while head light (HL) rackets offer more maneuverability. (Learn more)

These are some of the characteristics of the racket you should pay attention when deciding whether this is the right racket for you or not. If you not quite sure what they mean, you can just use the "What is this?" feature in order to learn more.

The head size of the racket influences how easy it is to play with it. A large head size (over 98) makes it easier to make contact with the shots but offers little maneuverability – which is great for beginners.

Racket Length

Most rackets range from 27 to 29 inches. Longer rackets offer more power and reach, but are more difficult to maneuver.

These numbers reflect the beam width at the head, shoulder, and handle. A larger beam usually means more power, but less maneuverability.

Choosing the right strings and the right string tension is just as important as choosing the right racket. Some rackets play better with higher tensions, while others require a lower tension.

We've played with hundreds of rackets, so we like to be pretty thorough with our reviews. We were also told that we make the best Youtube racket reviews (yes, mostly by our moms), but also by this guy and some other cool people.
