Josh Kelley has a new album and some sweet digs too! The 41-year-old singer-songwriter and wife Katherine Heigl are raising their family away from the Hollywood spotlight on a sweet farm in Utah. Only ET got an exclusive tour of the place they've called home for about nine years.

The couple -- who share daughters Nancy "Naleigh," 12, and Adalaide, 9, and son Joshua, 4 -- also keep busy with 12 horses, 12 chickens, two pigs and two goats.

"We're out here in the middle of nowhere. We just sort of stay to ourselves unless I go on tour, unless my wife goes and makes a movie or TV show," Kelley tells ET's Lauren Zima. "We were already living a very quarantined life anyway."

On the property, Kelley also has his own studio, where he recorded two albums amid the pandemic.

"This newest record, the Unplugged record, is two things. It's a tip of the hat to MTV Unplugged which I grew up with," he shares. "I let the fans decide via social media what songs they wanted on the record. And then I just kind of started checking the list off one day at a time, and sometimes it's actually harder to be that minimal. You would think it would be harder to do the full band production, but when you have nothing to hide behind, you got to make sure you really singing your tail feather off."

Writing, producing, engineering and mastering the records all by himself, Kelley also kept busy doing Zoom writing sessions with people all over the world. "That was a huge thing for me because without that I was just by myself writing everyday, and I started getting sick of that," he admits. "I was ready to collaborate again. That was probably the best thing to happen to me is being able to co-write with people anywhere. So I do about three a week and then I produce the demos, and send them in. And that has sharpened my skills like nothing else ever has in my entire life."

He also has the best critics in his children, who get to hear everything first. He jokes that "thank god they're so sweet."

"My 12-year-old Naleigh, she'll sit next to me and I'm like, 'What do you think of that mix?' and she goes, 'It sounds a little bass heavy to me.' Naleigh is a scary genius and we're terrified of her," he adds with a laugh. "I think she's running the whole show."

The rest of the family has also kept busy learning new tricks and taking up new hobbies. His daughter Adalaide is getting riding lessons from their riding arena.

"During the pandemic we had friends that were teaching [Adalaide] how to ride horses. So she started on ponies and things like that and now she's so fearless she graduated to the bigger horses," he shares. "And now all she wants to do is jump these horses which scares me to death. I will not be doing anything with that. But yeah she's into that, Naleigh got really into baking and cooking and it turns out she's really good at it."

"[Josh], he's obsessed with superheroes, changes costumes about every 10 minutes," adds the father-of-three. "He's also obsessed with talking. He's the chatterbox."

As for Heigl, the Firefly Lane star took up gardening after Kelley built her her own greenhouse. The couple first met in 2005 when she appeared in his music video. They're now celebrating 13 years of marriage.

"What drew us together at the beginning of our union was that we loved to craft and we loved to create," Kelley expresses. "Luckily we can do a lot of that together and over the pandemic I think she got this like an online degree in Herbology or she's really close to get that degree. And so we were foraging a lot, we were creating essential oils, we were doing all this.

Up next for Kelley, a show in June and going on tour in October. This is the fourth time he's had to postpone the tour amid the pandemic. "I'm very excited and I know people are excited for live shows. I'm definitely not a household name but I think over the pandemic, we just got news the other day that a show I'm doing in June sold out in 60 seconds," he notes. "I've never had that happen in my life. So I think it's due to the pandemic. I think it's people's hunger for music."

Sibling rivalry, love it or hate it, without a doubt must be present amongst the Kelley brothers. Josh and Charles. What do they both have in common apart from beautiful wives, and good looks? They are both very successful and critically acclaimed songwriters who have between them earned a great amount of stellar accolades, Charles being in the Grammy winning country and western band, Lady Antebellum, whilst Josh, making a name for himself as an artist in his own right has had multiple singles on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks Chart. Today I’m going to discuss a performance done by the older, and maybe wiser sibling, Josh, who rose to success a little earlier than his younger brother at the ripe young age of 21 when he was signed to Hollywood Records, some of the alumnus include, Hilary Duff, Plain White T’s, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.

Kelley takes to the stage, with a confident chip on his shoulder that he knows what he is doing, and he knows exactly how he is going to give this performance. He launches into his song “Get With It”, and his loyal fans sing it word for word with every inflection, emulating every piece of vocal ornamentation that they can. Moving on, he tackles his song “Georgia Clay” which was written with his younger brother, Charles. This song gained an amiable amount of success making it to number 17 on the Billboard Hot Country Charts. Despite it being a little bit of a diversion from what Josh Kelley’s sound was originally, it is perhaps a healthy diversion from the pop rock genre, with this audience still singing along to this memorable hit single.

Josh Kelley Announces New Acoustic Album & Tour Dates

The powerful gospel soaked “Hold Me My Lord,” will be released on Friday, April 2.

Today, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Josh Kelley announces the release of his new acoustic album Unplugged from Upstream Studios on Friday, April 23. It features 11 deeply personal and reimagined songs from Kelley's overall body of work, that weave introspective lyrics together with stripped down instruments to explore the evolution of family, love, faith, growth and friendship. Kelley produced each track on the album himself, including each instrument, while quarantined at his home "Upstream Studios" during the pandemic.

The powerful gospel soaked "Hold Me My Lord," will be released on Friday, April 2 ahead of Easter weekend. Co-produced by Grammy, Dove and Emmy award winner Shannon Sanders and rounded out with a 30-member choir, the stunning track is sonically different than anything Kelley has written or released.

Kelley will also launch a 14-date acoustic tour in Fall 2021 across the United States, kicking off in Nashville and ending in Seattle. Dates are re-scheduled as a result of COVID, and this upcoming tour is among the first post-pandemic artist tour announcements for 2021. "This collection of songs are ones that I regularly play during my live set," Kelley says. "When I sat down to create this unplugged album in my home studio, I knew that all of these songs had to make the cut. I wanted to create something that hopefully can give my fans some of these stripped back crowd favorites, until we can get back out on the road in the Fall of 2021."

Unplugged comes right on the heels of Kelley's last studio album My Baby & The Band, which was released in November 2020. The central line running through ​My Baby and the Band is the contentment he's found in his life with his wife and three kids. It's wrapped in sonic packaging that's true to who Kelley is, clear in its reverence for a great voice and song but unafraid to experiment with new textures surrounding it. These themes extend on to Unplugged, which features 5 acoustic tracks from My Baby and the Band.

Josh Kelley

Josh Kelley has been pursuing his own creative path since his childhood.  Growing up Augusta, Georgia, in a close-knit family that encouraged his early interests in music, painting and drawing, he absorbed the influence of the R&B and soul that his mom loved, as well as inheriting his dad’s love of vintage country, and his older brother’s affinity for classic rock.  During their early teens, Josh and his younger brother Charles (now one-third of Lady Antebellum) formed a band, Inside Blue, whose self-released indie CD gained airplay on local radio and caught the attention of soul legend James Brown, who expressed interest in signing them.

While studying art at the University of Mississippi, Josh recorded his indie solo debut Changing Faces , building an impressive amount of online buzz.  His D.I.Y. ingenuity helped him to win a deal with Hollywood Records, which released his 2003 mainstream debut For the Ride Home , which spawned a Top Five single in the anthemic “Amazing.”  Kelley’s sophomore effort, Almost Honest , including the Top Ten single “Only You,” followed in 2005.

Despite those early successes, the artist chose to take a more hands-on approach to his career, releasing four independent albums — Just Say the Word , Special Company , the digital release Backwoods and the limited edition To Remember — between 2006 and 2008.  Meanwhile, Kelley became a familiar media presence, thanks to high-profile appearances on Ellen , Good Morning America , The Tonight Show with Jay Leno , Regis & Kelly and Last Call with Carson Daly .  Meanwhile, his songs were featured in episodes of such shows as Smallville , Scrubs , Brothers and Sisters and MTV’s The Hills .

Kelley then embraced his deep country roots, signing with MCA Nashville and releasing the steeped-in-tradition album Georgia Clay in 2011.  That album’s title track became a substantial country hit, helping to expand his extraordinarily loyal, open-minded fan base, which has continued to embrace his music, even during his recent recording hiatus.

“I just did this acoustic tour, and I was so nervous about what attendance was gonna be like, because I hadn’t been out in so long,” he explains.  “But we sold out 80 per cent of the shows.  And when I got on stage, it would always be a surprise to me, like, ‘Whoa, these people still care!’  My fans are pretty awesome, and I definitely don’t take that stuff for granted.

“It took me a long time to get to the point where I could really appreciate how fortunate I am,” Kelley reflects.  “I was very, very green when I got into the business, and I was scared of success.  So I sort of crawled into a hole up in the Hollywood Hills for a while, and smoked a bunch of weed and made music and didn’t tour much.  I wish I had handled it differently, but that’s life, and I know better now.”

Kelley’s renewed enthusiasm is apparent throughout New Lane Road — not only in the artist’s transcendent songs and performances, but in the album’s packaging, which features several of his paintings, which vividly illustrate his songs’ emotional contents.

“I’ve been painting and drawing since I was a kid, but I’ve never really showed that side of me to the world until now,” says Kelley.  “I’ve been recording music since I was 11, and I should have been using all of these things to my advantage.  But I never let anybody know, and I never let anybody know that I played all these instruments.  My wife pushed me to show that side of myself to the world, and to let people know about my artwork and my paintings.  She was like, ‘The world thinks you’re just some glossy singer-songwriter dude.’  So I guess that on some level, people haven’t ever known who I really am, and now they’re about to find out.

“I feel like I actually know what I’m doing now, which was not always the case in the past,” Kelley concludes.  “I’m a better player and performer than I’ve ever been, and I’ve found the sweet spot in my voice.  I write, record and create every single day, and because of that, I think I’ve gotten better at everything.  I’m a better husband, a better dad, and I’m better at my craft.  I think of all of the stuff I did before as my apprenticeship for what I’m doing now.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – CMT “Next Women of Country” 2021 class member Harper Grae will serve as the opening act for singer-songwriter Josh Kelley’s recently announced fall acoustic tour, set to kick off with a performance at Nashville’s City Winery on October 7th. The tour is among the first post-pandemic artist tour announcements for 2021 and will include stops in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Denver, New York City, and Boston, among others.

“I’m really looking forward to being able to get back on the road with Josh Kelley this fall after what has been such a historic year. After COVID-19 canceled the tour last year, I’ve been itching to get back on the road,” said Grae. “To see the light at the end of the tunnel and tours opening back up is such a positive outlook for our industry and something that we’ve all needed to put us in better spirits. I cannot wait to see everyone’s faces, masked or not – performing again has been one of my greatest prayers.”

The 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival wraps its first weekend on Sunday, April 14, with Doja Cat’s return to the desert for her first time headlining the event.

Other artists include Victoria Monét , Reneé Rapp , J Balvin and Bebe Rexha.

It has been a big weekend of music in the desert. Tyler, the Creator, had a guest-filled spectacle that included a bighorn sheep to top Saturday night after No Doubt performed a set of its biggest hits for the first time in nine years with a little help from Olivia Rodrigo.

Taylor Swift didn’t join Bleachers on stage, but she was watching from the side with Travis Kelce on Saturday evening and Billie Eilish showed up for a surprise in the Do Lab.

And that was after big sets from Lana Del Rey and Peso Pluma on Friday .

These are some of the festival outfits we saw on the field at the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

1:30 p.m. The Do Lab is often described as the festival within the festival at Coachella. In its early years, it was located smack in the middle of the grounds, a beaconing festival-goers with beats, cirque performances and the all-important misters.

The Do Lab’s popularity has grown substantially since it first debuted at Coachella in 2004 and now has its own dedicated area to accommodate 15,000 fans at any given point during the festival.

That space is also known for hosting an impressive list of surprise guests, and this year is no exception. Among those who dropped in this year were DJ Pee .Wee (Anderson .Paak) and Sofi Tukker on Friday and 2022 headliner Billie Eilish on Saturday.

The brothers behind the Do Lab, L.A.-based Dede, Jesse, and Josh Flemming, work together to design a whimsical space with an ever-improving concert experience that also provides a respite from the sun.

“We focus on shade primarily and water and misting. We have to pay attention to lighting and sound,” Josh Flemming said.

Even with those practical elements, what makes Do Lab special is the colorful stage build. This year, there are structures covered by fabric in shades of blue, orange, yellow and red that Josh Flemming described as “10 massive mushrooms.”

“We are the most colorful thing out there. We want people to feel like they almost went through a portal,” Jesse Flemming said.

2 p.m. It’s DJ Will Clarke’s first time as a bonafide Coachella performer, though he’s graced the Do Lab stage in past years. The U.K- and Detroit-based DJ who also runs a food-focused Instagram played in the Yuma tent on Saturday, but we met up early Sunday afternoon to take a tour through Postmates’ Sauce Bar in the 12 Peaks VIP Area. The yellow-and-orange shaded structure feels like stepping into the sun and felt at least 10 degrees hotter than our perfect mid-70s reality.

Diners can choose between fries, tots or a combination of both before adding on sauces that pull from some of L.A.’s most iconic eateries, such as BBQ sauce from Bludso’s and a collaboration ghost chile sriracha with producer Benny Blanco. Blanco’s dip turned out to be our favorite of the five options, with the honey mustard coming in second. The real pro move is to dip your fries or tots into the sriracha followed by the honey mustard to slightly temper the heat. We both agreed that Blanco’s sriracha sauce would be ideal with hot wings. Maybe Postmates will incorporate our feedback before coming back for Weekend 2. —Danielle Dorsey

Coachella 2024: No Doubt dusts off energetic greatest hits with assist from Olivia Rodrigo

4:18 p.m. Since Friday afternoon, I’ve been keeping track of the number of shaven chests vs. the number of unshaven chests among the men at Coachella. Current totals are:

28,987 shaven

27,674 unshaven

It’s a close race; eager to see which side wins at the end of the night. — M.W.

5 p.m. YG Marley is beaming as he enters the Coachella Stage under the high afternoon sun. Complete with an echoing hype man who waves a massive Jamaican flag, he starts with his single “Marching for Freedom,” stomping his feet and urging audience participation. Freedom, peace and love are recurrent themes throughout the set, and a message that collides with that of his late grandfather, Bob Marley.

It’s not surprising that YG Marley brought his mother, Ms. Lauryn Hill, to join him on stage, but the addition of Wyclef Jean and a handful of Fugees hits that follow create a frenzy among the crowd, who effortlessly recite every word of “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready or Not” and “No Woman, No Cry.”

Just when I think the energy can’t crescendo any higher, Busta Rhymes skips onto stage to his 1997 single “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See.” After a quick detour through Flipmode Squad’s catalog, the ensemble brings it back to Bob Marley hits and Wyclef asks the audience to raise both hands if they want wars across the world to end.

“Put your hands up for peace!” the hype man chants and the crowd happily obliges, hooting in agreement.

Wyclef segues into “One Love,” before queueing up YG Marley to bring it home with “Is This Love.” The Jamaican flag that’s emblazoned across the triple-screen behind the stage gets traded for vintage Bob Marley photos, with YG Marley’s live performance framed in a six-point star. As the music winds down, I find myself caught in a contact-high, not just from the heavy cannabis smoke that wafts across the grounds, but the performance itself. Yes, I think, this is love that I’m feeling. —D.D.

5:03 p.m. Before Taking Back Sunday took the stage in the Mojave Tent Sunday afternoon, the crowd started chanting “TBS! TBS! TBS!” Yes, the emo kids who crowded into basement shows over the decades had found their people. I know because I am one of them.

The band may wear suits on stage now, but they’re just as electric as they were when we were all in our 20s. Adam Lazzara can still swing a microphone around with the best of them.

Highlights of the band’s 45-minute set included opener “A Decade Under the Influence,” and classics “You’re So Last Summer” and “Cute Without the E (Cut From the Team).”

As I predicted, it was a big cathartic emo sing-along for those of us for whom it was never a phase, culminating in set-closer “MakeDamnSure.” —V.F.

6:05 p.m. Calling her guest “the hottest person in the world,” Reneé Rapp brought out Kesha at the Outdoor Theatre to perform her 2009 electro-pop smash “Tik Tok” — an opportunity Kesha took to change the opening lyric of her song from “Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy” to “Wake up in the morning saying, ‘F— P Diddy,’” following recent allegations of sexual abuse against the hip-hop mogul. Rapp — a big-voiced singer and actor known to audiences for her roles in Broadway’s “Mean Girls” and its big-screen adaptation — was introduced by several cast members of TV’s “The L Word” and sang flirty but sneering pop-soul tunes about her love of pretty girls and her disgust with annoying ones. Her song “Colorado,” she said, was inspired by the experience of “white people winter”— “the only thing we did right.” — M.W.

7:51 p.m. In 2023, Heather Shaw spoke on a panel at SXSW about augmented reality and the future of stage design and production.

The founder and CEO of L.A.-based Vita Motus Design Studio was so inspired from the conversation she created a presentation for a future stage at Coachella.

Shaw, whose many credits include working on the design of the Do Lab going back to 2006, ultimately didn’t present the deck to the festival’s team but it came to pass anyway, as Coachella sought out a new stage.

The Quasar stage, which was designed for longer DJ sets, sits in the former home of the Sahara on the southern side of the festival grounds, and made its debut at Coachella Friday evening.

Quasar is 55 feet tall, 235 feet wide and its screens have 660 LED panels.

There are two angled screens that bear a resemblance to the shape of Nevada, flanking a pyramid-esque nerve center where the DJs play. There are mirrors around the edges of the screens. And along each side of the stage are four large angled slat-like pieces jutting like stalagmites from the sides of the stage.

Shaw’s goal with the stage design is for festival-goers to “feel like they’re taken to another dimension or another world” when they come to watch a set.

What makes it unique beyond its shape is that the technology of the stage allows for real-time visuals that can react to beats per minute.

“It feels more realistic or in-depth and three-dimensional,” Shaw said. She sees it as a step of using augmented reality for inspiration.

On Saturday night, London DJ Michael Bibi, who recently entered remission after being diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma a year ago took over the stage for a few hours. Late in his set, the screens looked like kaleidoscopic insect wings as he dropped Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Later they morphed into a beautiful stained glass pattern that was almost church-like, but still pulsing to the beat.

“I’m hopeful too that we can eventually build on it and make it more of a three-dimensional immersive space,” Shaw said. –V.F.

Coachella 2024: Tyler, the Creator wreaks late-night havoc as headliner on Day 2

8 p.m. Big star turn tonight in the Mojave tent by Victoria Monét, who was already riding high with her best new artist win at February’s Grammy Awards. A longtime songwriter for the likes of Ariana Grande and Fifth Harmony, the 34-year-old singer broke out on her own with last year’s “Jaguar II,” a funny and funky retro-R&B disc that showcased her extensive knowledge of Black music history; here, backed by a crack band that included her producer, D’Mile, she threaded bits of tunes by Usher, Outkast and the Supremes into her own material, deepening that scholarly impulse. (In “Stop (Askin’ Me 4 S—)” she also demanded, “Stop this genocide” to a huge round of cheers.) Yet Monét was no less a thrill to watch as she executed complicated choreography while flanked by a small crew of dancers. At one point, her delightfully raunchy moves so moved one guy near the stage that he threw a fistful of dollars her way. — M.W.

8:10 p.m. Whoever threw that phone at Bebe Rexha probably feels like a true dingus now.

In the war eternal to be the Main Pop Girl, we have a new champion today in Rexha, a songwriting industry lifer who has always been *this close* to a breakthrough as an artist. After her decadently performed, expertly delivered Main Stage set, it’s safe to say the day has arrived.

Rexha has long been an insider’s pop artist - sort of an oxymoron, but a consistent fount of singles smarter and stickier than most, and sung with real power and panache. It’s either a delight or an irony that she got her smash hit with a virtuosically dumb cover of Eiffel 65’s Euro-rave chestnut “Blue” with David Guetta.

But given the chance to finally control a huge stage on her own, she wrung it for all it was worth.

Flanked by a few very limber and spicily-posed dancers in jet black, Rexha sung the hell out of singles like “Me, Myself & I” and “I’m the Drama,” with precision-point vocals cutting through artfully disjointed club pop. On “Bad Bitch,” one of her standouts, she almost dared the audience to get onboard with her chaos or gtfo.

Dua Lipa has the fitness girlies, Charli XCX has the poppers crowd. For today though, the People have spoken, and they said it’s Bebe Rexha.

“I always thought I wasn’t cool enough for Coachella,” said Rexha, as she wound down her exultant set on the main stage. No one could deny her this - “I’m cool now.” —AB

9 p.m. What could make J Balvin’s intergalactic set full of neon lasers, alien heads and chrome spaceships feel even more out of this world? How about a cameo from Will Smith coming out to rap along to the song “Men In Black” like it’s 1997? In a day full of big time guests, Smith’s appearance in the midst of Balvin’s hip-shaking reggaeton might sound strange. But in a fest full of nostalgia, Smith’s smooth dances moves lifted out of the music video for the self-titled soundtrack classic seemed to hit Balvin (and us) right in the feels as he mimicked the moves almost out of sheer childhood muscle memory. After blowing the our minds, Smith then tried to erase them by holding up the trademark MIB red laser to the crowd’s eyes. Nice try Will, you might be able to give us amnesia, but Twitter never forgets. —Nate Jackson
