From his 2003 Platinum-selling debut Long Black Train to his 2017 Billboard No. 1 release, Deep South, Turner has scored multiple GRAMMY®, CMA and ACM Awards nominations and received six Inspirational Country Music Awards. In addition to the 12-track studio project, Turner has released a complementing 90-minute live performance DVD featuring a special interview of Turner with gospel legend Bill Gaither, a performance with Turner alongside his wife Jennifer and their four sons, and more. The DVD has been edited to air as a one-hour television special hosted by Bill Gaither, which will air on numerous networks across the U.S. and Canada.

Turner is a disciple of traditional country music, a mentor to up-and-coming artists, and one of the youngest members of the Grand Ole Opry. Turner has been an Opry member for over 10 years and he recently revealed in his 150th performance on the famed Opry circle.

Turner checked off another bucket list item when he added author to his list of accomplishments. His first book, Man Stuff: Thoughts on Faith, Family, and Fatherhood was released in 2014. As highlighted in the book, the Hannah, S.C. native has been songwriting and performing since he was a young child, and in support of music education, created The Josh Turner Scholarship Fund to assist students interested in pursuing a future in arts and music. As a high school student, Turner had very little access to music education, therefore realizes first-hand the importance of arts education in schools.

Josh Turner is without question my favorite country recording artist. He's got that good ol' Southern charm and a baritone voice smooth as honey butter. His "Your Man" album is one of my top albums of any genre. I was stoked to see him live in 2009 in Salt Lake City. It's always a thrill to see your favorite musician live, and the show introduced me to some great songs I wasn't already familiar with, like Soulmate and So Not My Baby. Oh, and his wife plays the keys. So when he sings a love song, it's adorable. Anyone who's listened to Josh knows his deep voice and Southern upbringing come with a pretty laid back style. I think it would be great listening to outside or in a smoky bar, but in a sizeable concert the energy just didn't seem to be there. He's an awesome talent, but it's a much more toned-down environment compared to Brad Paisley and Keith Urban. I didn't really feel like the live performance was different enough from the albums to make it worth my purchase, although I love the man dearly. Overall, I will be sticking with Josh's albums in the future. But he is amazing, and I think you should check him out and decide for yourself.

Country singer Josh Turner is often described as one of the most sincere performers on the circuit. There is a lot of bravado naturally associated with the genre of country as it is known to be quite raucous at times yet Josh conducts his gigs with a quiet intimacy that is often rare to find these days.

From the offset, he greets the audience warmly and takes to his seat for opener 'Backwoods Boy' whilst making sure each note really resonates to everybody in the room. He builds a great rapport with his fans and thanks them for continuing to support his career and treats them to tales of song incarnation whilst teasing that they are his favourite crowd thus far.

He tries some new material on the receptive crowds which they applaud intently before he thanks them for their patience with a perfect rendition of 'Would You Go With Me?' which evokes mass singalong. Still relatively new to the scene, Turner leaves the audience with the overall impression he is destined for huge things.

I have been to over 40 concerts in my lifetime, and I enjoyed this concert as one of the best. I like the smaller venue, and smaller crowd. Josh was funny, clean, and very had a quality sound. My daughter and I walked down to the stage on the last 2 songs. I wish we would have done earlier.

The only thing I did not like or appreciate, was that the producer allowed the back rows to move up in the VIP tables, because there were empty seats (inclement weather and people did not show up). I drive 3 hours on ice, which normally takes 1 1/2 hours. The back rows were last minute coming in to find a seat. We and everyone in closer chairs had been waiting 2 hours.

The concert started over 1 hour late. The fact that the 2-3 back rows got to move up, did not set well with me. BUT... this had nothing to do with Josh.

Josh put on a very classy show, and My daughter and I finally got to seen him (even touched his hand!)

The concert was excellent!The location was the gulf states fairgrounds Mobile Al.It opened with Rachel Cole she was great.I was very impressed he and the band sounded just like they do on the Cd's. He played some of his new gospel music along with his old hits.His band was great and where very animated on the stage.I purchased a gold ticket so I was within ten feet of the stage,it was like the band was in my living room!! They came back to do an on core at the end.They played for a little over two hours.Josh I will definitely see you at future concerts when you come back to the area.Please come back SOON!!

Josh Turner's show at Crystal Grand was the 3rd time I have seen him live, and was not the least disappointed. He so easily captures the audience with his natural talents, sense of confidence, and consistency. The audience enjoyed the show. You could feel the love. My personal desire would be that he not have an opening act. He doesn't need it!! If you have him back to WI Dells, I will hit the "songkicks" site early and get GOOD tickets. Loved the venue and the show.

Awesome performance at Austin rodeo. I love that he uses his tremendous voice to reinforce his love of God and has songs that also have a blend for others. I had extreme experience seats and they were worth the cost. His band of musicians were superb team. Thank you making my day a little better with your music ... truly a blessing of joy and fun.

Was absolutely fabulous, I travelled over 320 miles from Edinburgh to spend the whole weekend just to watch him last thing on the Sunday and it was worth the wait, only thing I can say is I wished he was on stage longer, I really hope he comes back to the uk and hopefully to Scotland next time, il be first in line for tickets

I absolutely loved seeing him in Norman Oklahoma! We drove about 2 and a half hours just for me to see him! I absolutely had a great time! Him and his band are so awesome and I especially enjoy his gospel music! I also got to meet one of the band members! Hope he comes back to Oklahoma again really soon! I love you Josh!

It was totally awesome they had a paraglider show before it started they strung out flags as they were coming in closer it was totally cool the concert was something that I hope to experience again then after that they had a awesome firework show I'll be there again if he comes again

Singer-songwriter Josh Turner has announced an early 2024 tour across America performing some of his greatest hits. The Greatest Hits Tour kicks off January 17th in Beaver Creek and stretches through April making additional stops in Denver, Pensacola, Amarillo, Fort Worth, Indianapolis, Charles Town and Myrtle Beach. Joining the tour on select dates will be special guests Grace Tyler and Jared Harder. The artist recently wrapped up a massive U.S. tour earlier in 2023 celebrating the 20th anniversary of his debut album 'Long Black Train' .

UPDATE: Tour dates have been extended further into the year visiting cities like Wichita, Grant, Rapid City, Roanoke, Winston Salem, Cleveland, Bettendorf, Central Point and Greensburg.

Turner's debut 2003 album 'Long Black Train' was certified Platinum by the RIAA and includes the singles 'She'll Go on You' , 'What It Ain't' and its title track. His latest 2021 album 'King Size Manger' reached #14 on Billboard's Country chart and features guest appearances by John Anderson , Kris Kristofferson , Chris Janson , Allison Moorer , Randy Travis , Runaway June and Maddie & Tae . The same year, the Grammy-nominated singer launched his Holiday & The Hits Tour which was joined by special guest Mo Pitney .

Josh Turner Will Celebrate 20 Years of ‘Long Black Train’ With New Tour

It's been 20 years since the release of Josh Turner 's debut album Long Black Train , and the country talent is celebrating the occasion in a very special way.

The South Carolina native will embark on his 2023 Long Black Train 20th Anniversary Tour later this year, giving fans a second chance to enjoy the songs that helped Turner break into the country music scene two decades ago.

"Hey y'all, when I realized that "Long Black Train" was celebrating the big 2-0 this year, it was hard for me to believe," Turner shared in a message on his social media pages. "I hope you can join me to celebrate on the Long Black Train 20th Anniversary Tour kicking off this spring."

Turner will kick things off on March 4 with a stop at The Plant in Dothan, Ala., before hitting a mix of intimate theaters, outdoor amphitheaters, festivals, and fairgrounds across the U.S. through September. 

Released on Oct. 14, 2003, Long Black Train climbed to No. 4 on Billboard 's Top Country Albums chart, propelled by the success of the record's hit title track. Turner has released a total of nine studio albums and charted four No. 1 singles, including " Your Man " and " All Over Me ."

With timeless songs like “Long Black Train” and “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” Josh Turner’s global reach has surpassed 5.8B global streams, 6.5M album sales and almost 12M track sales world-wide. Turner’s five No. 1 singles include “Your Man,” of which the official music video surpassed 223 million views. Turner’s album Long Black Train debuted 20 years ago and was certified Platinum by the RIAA with nearly 1.5M album sales, 1.3M track downloads and almost 315M life-to-date streams. The lead single of the same name was also certified Platinum making up over 1M track downloads and almost 245M global streams.

Turner released his first Greatest Hits album in September of this year, which features 11 of his biggest songs from seven of his studio albums. Exclusive: Josh Turner Talks New Album & His Lasting Country Music Legacy

There was something in the country music water during the 2000s. A type of marriage between the traditions of the genre's classic heyday and the sleek shine of its modern evolution that would eventually open the gates to the "bro-country" era.

While there were many artists who hit their stride in this lauded era of the format, none did so with as much gusto and grace as Josh Turner.

After the release of his debut album, 2003's Long Black Train – its title track becoming one of the most recognizable song's in his discography – the South Carolinian had managed to turn heads amongst country fans, largely due to his distinctive baritone voice and sincere storytelling nous.

Yet, with his 2006 follow-up, Your Man , everyone's attentions were firmly fixed on the rising star. Including standout tunes like 'Would You Go With Me' and 'Me And God,' the crown jewel of the project was the multi-Platinum-certified title track, which eventually become Turner's first No. 1 single and turned him into a household name almost overnight.

"That song has experienced so many different lives," Turner shares with Holler, looking back at the near two decades since Your Man 's release. "The song was really striking a chord with people. Then Randy Travis and I did the CMT Crossroads special where we sang the song together, and that show started being rerun one after the other. The record ended up going 2x Platinum and then Scotty McCreery came out and sang it on American Idol , so all of a sudden, there was another spike in interest.

"The whole record experience was just incredible and then, not long ago, I got a call from my manager saying the record had been certified 3x Platinum and that 'Your Man' was certified 4x Platinum." He adds with a smile: "It just keeps going. It's the little song that could."

Since 'Your Man' entered the ether, Turner has enjoyed a steady stream of success, becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry, notching five No. 1s at country radio and nabbing several major award nominations, including two Grammys, five CMAs and two ACMs, among others.

Now, just over twenty years since dipping his toes into the country music waters, Turner has readied his tenth studio album, This Country Music Thing , released on August 16. The 11-song project, which marks his first original country record since 2017, finds Turner in his signature sweet spot, boasting songs that nod back to his 2000s country roots but have an ultimately timeless feel.

"I wasn't trying to make this album fit into any certain era or time period," Turner admits. "Songs have a way of dictating what a record is going to be. You can set out with one idea for where a record's supposed to go, but the songs will take you in a whole different direction. You just never know."

Explaining his approach to the record, he says: "I'm always open to trying something new. 'Two Stepping on the Moon' is a perfect example of that. At first listen, I thought, 'Well, it's kind of cool, but I don't know if it works for me. I don't know if it'll fit on this record.' But I just kept going back to it. There was something special about the song that I just couldn't give up on."

A masterful mix of nostalgic boot stompers, swaying love songs and a moving ode to his veteran grandfather, This Country Music Thing serves as a cross-section of who Josh Turner is: a man who cherishes his family, his country and, of course, country music.

"It sounds simple and cliche, but I just hope people love this record as much as I do. I hope they can hear the heart, hard work, effort and emotion that was put into making it," Turner offers. "It's not something that I just shoot from the hip on, it's something that I take seriously and work hard at. I hope they appreciate it as much as I do."

The track 'Heatin' Things Up' sounds very reminiscent of 'Your Man'. What made you want to cut it for this record?

The melody struck me right off the bat, because it was very different in how the melody flowed and laid in there. When I started playing it, the chord progression was very different and very interesting, which told me that there was a uniqueness about it. I love the lyric and it was in that 'Your Man' vein. I had a friend of mine tell me that it's the prequel to 'Your Man'.

Marv Green, Luke Laird and Brice Long wrote it and, I found out after the fact, that they'd actually written it specifically for me. I was very flattered and honored by that.

With some of these songs, you mentioned that you had to turn it into a "Josh Turner song". What exactly does a song like that consist of?

It's hard to put into words. It's obviously gotta showcase my voice well. I don't like a lot of these songs where the melody doesn't have a whole lot of range. I feel like it kind of limits me in regard to singing.

The demo for 'Two Stepping on the Moon' sounded like a lot of other songs that had been pitched to me that had that small range. I don't want to say it was monotone, but there just wasn't much to it and it was kind of flat. That song actually had a pretty legitimate melody, though, that I felt would really capture my voice in a great way.

The lyric was also really cool, which opened itself up to creative ideas like the video.

You penned the title track entirely on your own, which comes from your journey over the last twenty years and features quite a few nods to your musical influences and inspirations. How did you piece it all together?

The outro actually happened after we recorded the song. It came from me goofing off in the control room after I had done my vocal.

It was this big long outro and my producer, Kenny Greenberg, was talking about how he was gonna have this person play here and this person play there. While we were listening to it, I just started singing all these little snippets of songs. He said, "Oh, man! That's kind of cool. Why don't you go in there and do that now?"

I came back in, laid it down and told him I wanted it to have an effect like it was coming out of an old radio. He managed to find the right effect and it turned out to be a really cool moment on the record.

You first entered the country music scene more than two decades ago and you’ve enjoyed a mighty career since then. Are there any moments that come to mind when you think back on your time as an artist?

When I think about where I'm from and all the people who told me I was never gonna make it or I was crazy to try and get a record deal, now I can look at everything that I've been able to do. I've been able to sing for presidents, become a member of the Grand Ole Opry, been to multiple countries, sang on TV and at sporting events and rubbed elbows with my heroes. Every time one of them passes away, it becomes more and more special to me.

I look back and I can't believe I was able to do this, that and the other. I kind of look at it collectively because it all happened and I was willing to take a chance.

You've been busy cruising around the country on your Greatest Hits Tour and will be for the next few months. What have been some of your favorite moments so far?

I was having fun with my crowd in a suburb of Chicago. The address for the venue was Des Plaines, Illinois, and so I said to the crowd, "It's good to be here in Des Plaines, Illinois!"

I heard some people yelling out, "Chicago!" and some people yelling out other suburbs. I was just kind of egging the crowd on and we got to arguing back and forth about the town name when somebody said, "You're in Rosemont!" I said, "Yeah, we played in Rosemont last night. That was a terrible crowd!" We were actually closer to Rosemont than we were Des Plaines but it was hilarious. It was just one of those inside jokes with that particular crowd.

Those are the moments that I love because it kind of breaks up the monotony of the show, and you start having a connection with the audience. Those kinds of things happen a good bit when you have an audience that's listening and engaged.

We also had a fan in Oregon not too long ago that tried to sneak into the show, but he got stuck under a fence. We put that all over social media. He must've really wanted to see the show! All that to say, people shouldn't crawl under fences. They should buy a ticket, come through the proper entrance and they won't be disappointed.

Exclusive: Josh Turner Learned His Granddaddy Was a War Hero, Channeled Story Into New Album

Josh Turner didn’t intend to wait seven years between original country albums–his 2017 Deep South was his last. But time and a host of his passion projects, including a gospel project, a Christmas record, and a country covers and collaborations album, got in the way. Turner ‘s 10th studio album, This Country Music Thing, is out now. Released Friday, Aug. 16, This Country Music Thing is home to 11 songs, three of which Turner wrote or co-wrote. When Turner’s longtime label home, MCA Records, extended his recording contract, the singer and his producer, Kenny Greenberg, jumped into making This Country Music Thing with both feet. “It was like every other record I’ve done,” Turner says.  “The songs dictated the direction that we went in.” He was impressed by the quality of the outside songs pitched for the project, including “Heatin’ Things Up,” which Marv Green, Luke Laird, and Brice Long wrote specifically for him. “They sat down and said, ‘Hey, let’s write something for Josh Turner,’” Turner says. “I don’t think I’ve ever had anybody do that.” Turner feels he had to “scratch and claw” for the best of the best songs for his entire career, so to have three such celebrated songwriters sit down with him in mind was a uniquely touching validation for the happily married dad of four. Turner and his wife, Jennifer, have been married for over two decades. They recently moved their family from the Nashville area to her home state of Georgia. When Turner got pitched “Down in Georgia,” he felt like songwriters Tyler Booth, Anthony Olympia, and Brent Rupard might be reading his mail.

“I wasn’t familiar with those three writers,” Turner explains, saying he thinks that song was written specifically for him, too.  “I’m still trying to get the straight story on that. I don’t know if they knew that I was moving to Georgia, if they just knew my wife was from Georgia, or what the deal was. But when I heard it, I’m like, ‘Golly, what a perfect song for where I’m at in my life.”

Josh Turner – Two Steppin’ On The Moon (Official Music Video) (youtube.com) Turner wrote “Whirlwind”  with Mark Narmore and “This Country Music Thing” and “Unsung Hero” alone. He forgot about “This Country Music Thing” until Greenberg found it in a batch of recordings, but “Unsung Hero” is so personal he’ll remember it forever. Turner wrote it about his grandfather, a World War II veteran. Turner describes his grandaddy as a man of few words who didn’t talk about his experiences in the war. The singer remembers him sharing a story of riding a train from Columbia, South Carolina, to San Antonio, Texas. Still, he was so young when he heard it that Turner didn’t realize it had anything to do with World War II. “I didn’t know what questions to ask, so I was just kind of in the dark,” Turner says. When he got older, Turner started digging into his grandfather’s military history. “It made it very clear and very plain that here was an American hero living amongst us, and he never talked about it,” Turner says.  “We never talked about it. Nobody ever really asked him about anything.” Turner’s grandaddy was a medic who followed a tank battalion around Europe. He got shot by an enemy aircraft while he was driving an ambulance. Turner’s uncle acquired the veteran’s papers and medals but lost his grandfather’s Purple Heart, the singer learned.  

Josh Turner: “How Do You Lose a Purple Heart?”

“It was a gut punch,” Turner says. “How do you lose a Purple Heart? At the same time, he had all of the papers.  I asked him, ‘Can I take pictures of all this?’ He said, ‘Yeah.’” Turner used those photos for research and sat down one night in his songwriting cottage, where “Unsung Hero” poured out of him onto the page. “It didn’t take long to write because it was so personal to me,” Turner says. “I had done so much research on it.” Turner played “Unsung Hero” during concerts over Independence Day weekend a couple of years ago. Then he and Greenberg tightened the lyrics and chords up, and he included it on This Country Music Thing . He cried when he went into the studio to record it. “This was only the second time in my whole career that I ever got emotional in the studio because I was so moved by the fact that this song had ended up on the record as a tribute to my granddaddy,” he says. “He’s not here to hear it, and it also got me thinking about how many other people out there can relate to this song or know somebody like this.”

“Two Steppin’ On The Moon” is Turner’s other sentimental favorite. But this time, it’s because of the music video. Matt Dragstrem, Chase McGill, and John Pierce wrote the song, but Turner had the idea of incorporating other songwriters and artists with songs about the moon into the music video. Randy Travis, The Gatlin Brothers, John Anderson, Shenandoah’s Marty Raybon, and Mark Narmore, who wrote “The Moon Over Georgia are all in the clip.  “I’ve never been happier than I was when I was sitting at that table with those guys sitting there shooting a video,” Turner says. “I was like, ‘This is unbelievable, the fact that I’m sitting here with these country legends shooting a video. But on top of that, they love me enough to drive all the way out here to Portland, Tennessee, to this rat hole of a bar to do this. It was unbelievable.’ And just making that memory with them was just something I’ll always cherish.”

My wife & I have just completed the Journey of a Lifetime 16 day 15 night Trip as organised by Express to Russia. We also had a tour of St Petersburg & Moscow as well. Trans-Siberian Train

The main route of the Trans-Siberian Railway begins in Moscow and heads east to Vladivostok passing through Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan Ude, Chita, Blagoveshchensk and Khabarovsk. The length of the route is 9259 km or 5753 miles. The train travels through 7 time zones and takes 8 days to complete without making overnight stops. The Trans-Siberian splits off into a few other fascinating directions as well:

Trans-Mongolian Train

The Trans-Mongolian Line was built from 1940 to 1956 between Ulan-Ude at Lake Baikal’s eastern shore and the Chinese capital Beijing. From Ulan-Ude the tracks go south towards Mongolia, crossing the great Gobi Desert and finally ending up in Beijing. This route is a mere 7867 kilometers long (Moscow - Beijing).

Trans-Manchurian Train

The Trans-Manchurian Line runs on the same route as the Trans-Siberian as far as Tarskaya, which is a few hundred miles east of Baikal. From Tarskaya, the line runs southeast into China near Zabaikalsk and makes its way down to Beijing. This route is a 9001 kilometres long (Moscow - Beijing).

Where does the trans-siberian railway start and where does it end.

The Trans-Siberian Railway starts in Moscow and extends all the way to Vladivostok on the Pacific Ocean. This route connects the European part of Russia, the Ural region, Siberia and the Russian Far East.

Are Beijing and Ulan Bator stops along the Trans-Siberian railway?

Beijing and Ulan Bator are parts of Trans-Mongolian railway - an offshoot of the main Trans-Siberian Railway. There are many options to arrange your travel: to visit Ulan Bator and or follow the Trans-Siberian railway to or from Vladivostok. 

Can I use the hop-on hop-off principle when traveling by Trans-Siberian train?

Unfortunately, that is not possible. Train tickets in Russia are not open, so you will need a separate ticket with a particular date for each leg of your trip - for example, you may go all the way from Moscow to Vladivostok, but you will only be able to leave the train for short stops at the railway stations. In case if you would like to explore different cities on the way, you will need separate tickets, for example Moscow – Yekaterinburg, Yekaterinburg – Irkutsk, Irkutsk - Vladivostok. We offer carefully planned private tours that will allow you to visit several cities on your way.

Are there showers aboard Trans-Siberian trains?

Most of the Trans-Siberian trains do not have showers, and there are two WCs per each carriage. Please consider it while planning your trip. We recommend to choose shorter distances (that is, to plan more overnight stops in the cities along the way) to avoid the inconvenience of not showering. Another option is to choose the trip on board a more luxurious train which has all the on-board amenities that one might need.

Are meals included on the board of Trans-Siberian express train?

When traveling with RZD regular trains meals are not included. You can easily buy your meals in the restaurant car.  Another option is to buy local specialties from “babushkas” (grandmothers, or simply Russian old ladies) on the short train stops along the way. This is a very authentic way of getting your meals.

What is the most comfortable way to travel on the Trans-Siberian railroad?

There are luxurious trains on the Trans-Siberian railway that are quite different from regular RZD trains and can be described as 5* hotels on wheels. We offer this type of accommodation on the Imperial Russia train where you can enjoy a full board menu, a shower and a comfortable compartment.
