CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Journey’s members have a simple message for those who figured it was a band least likely to headline at Lollapalooza, a festival that’s long celebrated the current and cutting edge.

Don’t stop believin’.

The group, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 2017, indeed won raves and a big Hulu TV audience for its July 31 performance in Chicago’s Grant Park, which had tens of thousands singing along to “Don’t Stop Believin’” and the group’s parade of other hits. It’s part of a series of post-pandemic shows Journey, debuting a new lineup, has been playing this summer, with a Las Vegas residency slated for December.

And all that has been accompanied by new music. A single and animated video, “The Way We Used to Be,” came out in June, and Journey has recorded a new album -- its first since “Eclipse” in 2011 -- though it hasn’t yet announced a release date.

It’s safe to say that despite some harsh critics still out there, the journey goes on and on and on and on...

“Journey has become a crossover with kids, more than people realize,” says Jonathan Cain, keyboardist and guitarist since 1980 and a chief architect behind Journey’s nine-times platinum “Escape” album, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. “There’s a lot of factors there. ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’ was in ‘The Sopranos’ (finale), and on ‘Glee.’ It’s the most-performed karaoke song, one of the top five wedding songs, and then you have ‘Open Arms’ and ‘Faithfully’...

“We have permeated the young culture, and we still have the fans who were with us back when everything happened. We’re very blessed in that way.”

This Journey resurgence, in fact, comes after one of the darker chapters in the band’s 48-year history.

It was only a few years ago, back in 2017 that guitarist and co-founder Neal Schon was sniping at his bandmates, primarily Cain, via social media, even as the group was touring together. The issues, other than a band visit to the White House (Cain’s wife, televangelist Paula White, was one of Donald Trump’s advisers) were unclear and seemed to have little effect on the band’s performances.

Now Schon -- who formed the band in 1973 after a tenure with Santana -- acknowledges that “there was a period there where some things weren’t really right, and it took time to figure out what was going on and what to do about it.” And those things became clear on March 3, 2020, when Schon and Cain announced they’d fired co-founder and bassist Ross Valory and longtime drummer Steve Smith for an alleged “attempted corporate coup d’état” to take over the Journey and all of its trademarks.

Valory and Smith were supported in a countersuit by former frontman Steve Perry and former manager Herbie Herbert, but Schon and Cain moved forward while the matter was being litigated.

“Everybody wanted to own the brand, and I felt there was a takeover going on,” says Schon, who had started another band, Journey Through Time, that included Santana bandmate Greg Rolie, another Journey co-founder. One of the group’s old managers, in fact, even suggested Schon should quit the band he started, which only strengthened his resolve to establish new order to the group, which has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide.

“The ship is not going down. No one’s stealing the brand,” declares Schon, 67, who’s limited by the legalities from talking about too many specifics. “Things took a turn, businesswise, that I didn’t like, and that Jonathan didn’t like and we decided not to go along with it. There were a lot of unrealistic statements that were being made by different people and us not really talking and just believing what others were saying.

“Once I actually sat and talked to Jonathan, we cleared everything up and got rid of the divide-and-conquer scenario and realized we had a lot more to say musically together, as brothers.”

Journey also changed management and did some other housecleaning and legal reshuffling, as well as working on settling trademark issues that hadn’t been firmly established in the past.

“It was sort of a shocking thing, that brothers had come to that,” Cain says. “We had to sort it out. You get lemons, you make lemonade -- what else are you gonna do? It’s probably not that out of the ordinary for bands to do this kind of stuff, and it’s usually based on greed or whatever. I really am glad it’s behind us, that’s all -- and I wish everybody well, really. I have no ill will towards anyone.”

Journey now comprises Schon and Cain, as well as Arnel Pineda, the Filipino singer who joined in 2007 after Schon saw his performances of Journey songs on YouTube. Randy Jackson of “American Idol” fame returns in the bass slot, which he filled from 1985-87 -- though Marco Mendoza is filling in while Jackson recovers from back surgery. New to the lineup is Narada Michael Walden on drums, while Jason Derlatka, who’s been a hidden adjunct member for live performances, is now a full-time member on keyboard.

And, in a surprise move last month, Deen Castronovo, drummer from 1998-2015, is also back in the fold.

“We’re moving forward -- that’s all I can tell you, man,” says Schon, who put out an instrumental solo album, “Universe,” last fall and last month auctioned 112 of his guitars for more than $4.2 million. “It still sounds like Journey, but there is definitely a different strut in the rhythm section with Randy and Narada. It’s bombastic. It’s rocking. It’s majestic, and it’s soulful.

“I believe we got in a bit of a rut, for me, in the latter years of just playing exactly the same thing every night. It doesn’t have to be like that. We have so much material, and I think it’s great music and can all be brought to life in a new way and an updated way. That’s what we’re pursuing now.”

Journey has more than 20 songs it’s been working on for the new album, much of it being worked on remotely between Schon and Walden on the West Coast and Cain in Nashville and Florida. “The Way We Used to Be” is a case in point, growing from a piece of music Schon and Walden constructed and then sent to Cain for lyrics and additional melody.

“The lyric has a sort of angst to it, and the question was ‘can we ever get back?’” explains Cain, 71, who also released a new Christian rock single, “Oh Lord Lead Us,” last month. “There’s that frustration of being separated, by the pandemic, and a little fear in it. It just had enough for me to go, ‘OK, then we’ll just put a little R&B thing on it and story tell it and get to that chorus, which fit right into what (Schon) had.”

Both Schon and Cain say the new album is in its finishing stages. It has a tentative title that they’re not revealing yet, but the package is being designed by Jim Welch, who worked with the band on several albums, including “Infinity,” “Departure” and “Escape.” “It’s typical Journey, I think,” Cain says. “We’re back to our old sound, but it’s got a little bit more on the bottom end. It’s got fire. It’s just a little bit more edge to it. Neal’s playing his butt off, and it’s very driven, very cool. The songs came very interestingly. I like it a lot.”

For Schon, meanwhile, “I’m just all about moving forward right now. I’m making so much music and there are so many positive things happening. I’ve bought a lot of new guitars and I’m having a blast playing. We’ll get all this other (stuff) taken care of and behind us, and then it’s just full speed ahead. I can’t wait.”

Nelly Shares Glimpse Into Ashanti’s Motherhood Journey After Welcoming Baby Boy

Nelly shared insight into his and ashanti’s latest chapter as parents one month after the couple welcomed their first child together, son kareem kenkaide haynes, also known as “kk.”.

Ashanti  and  Nelly  are so happy, baby.

After the couple privately  welcomed a baby boy  named  Kareem Kenkaide  “KK” Haynes  in July, they shared the happy news on Aug. 21. Now, the “Ride With Me” musician is sharing insight into their first month of parenthood.

“Having kids is always a blessing,” Nelly told E! News in an Aug. 21 statement, “And seeing how dope Ashanti is as a mother is awesome.”

Shortly after announcing their arrival, Ashanti also shared the meaningful inspiration behind her son’s name, noting that it was actually Nelly who suggested it.

“Kenkaide is my dad’s name,” Ashanti told Entertainment Tonight on Aug. 21. “And obviously my dad has only girls, you know, so Nelly was just like, ‘I think that would be really, really dope. And this was all his idea.”

The “Happy” singer announced that she had welcomed her first baby on Instagram, sharing a candid photo of her postpartum body.

"This is what postpartum looks like," the 43-year-old wrote in her Aug. 21 Instagram post. "I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby."

Alongside the caption, the proud mom shared a video of herself in a set of Frida Mom’s postpartum underwear and a floor-length silk robe. In the clip, she pans over her figure before telling the camera, "Four weeks postpartum—you have no idea what this body can do."

Prior to welcoming their baby, Ashanti opened up about her latest chapter with Nelly—who is also father to  Chanelle  and son  Cornell Haynes III  with ex  Channetta Valentine , and adopted his sister  Jackie Donahue 's kids,  Shawn  and  Sydney Thomas , after she passed away in 2005—noting that she was fulfilling her lifelong dream.

"I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now," she added in the post, "but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings!"

Ashanti and Nelly, 49,  announced their pregnancy and engagement simultaneously  in April, seven months after confirming they had rekindled their  early aughts romance . Shortly after, public records revealed the couple had already privately tied the knot  in December 2023.

As for who the little one most resembles, Ashanti told ET , “In the beginning he was definitely resembling Nelly more. But now? Oh my gosh, he’s my twin.”

Alternative Learning Environment substitute teacher finds future adoptive daughter in classroom

Northside isd teacher’s journey to certification leads to unexpected family bond..

Japhanie Gray , Anchor/Reporter

SAN ANTONIO – A full-time Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) substitute at Northside ISD has spent the last three years working to become a full-time certified teacher, but on her journey to reach that goal, she had no idea she would also make a daughter out of a student she once taught.

Shawna Malarski works at Briscoe Middle School. She said her journey started by simply looking for a job with a flexible schedule nearly three years ago.

“Before this, I was a stay-at-home mom, and then when most of my children graduated, I started working at Chick-fil-A,” Malarski said. “I soon wanted a change. Then, I got hired as a sub to get a flexible schedule, and they asked if I would be interested in the ALE classroom. I never really thought about it, so I tried it out.”

Malarski said it was initially overwhelming, but she soon found her footing.

“It was a lot thrown at me at one time,” she laughed. “But within a few minutes of being in here, I knew I absolutely loved it, and I knew I wanted to be here all the time. I took any assignments where I could be in here with these kids, and I knew this is where I belonged.”

Malarski said the biggest joy she has is working with the children.

“The good days outweigh any of the rough days we have and watching these kids grow and learn and being so excited about it,” she said. “It is rewarding to see that and getting a hug and being there for them.”

Malarski admits that when she first walked into the classroom, she didn’t know what she was doing, but she had a lot of great help from her co-teacher.

“Mrs. Holcomb is wonderful,” she said. “She taught me a lot and helped me grow and (how to) be able to be there for these kids and teach them in the correct way.”

Malarski also served in the U.S. Army right out of high school, which she said also helped her on this journey.

“I have a lot of patience from being in the military and being a mom, and it helps in here having that background to assist these kids how they need to be,” she said.

Malarski soon realized this was her calling. She worked to take the steps needed to become a full-time certified special education teacher, but along that way, she was blessed with another gift.

“My first year in here, a student came in mid-year, and she was new, and she was a foster child,” she said. “By the end of the school year, she came up for adoption. I had a connection with this little girl, so I thought, ‘Let’s adopt her.’ I was going back and forth, and then my husband and I finally wanted to do it. We talked to our kids about it, and at first, they were like, ‘Why?’ But then we explained to them.”

“My husband was adopted and was in foster care and now works for CPS, so he has insight on what it is like to be in those shoes. So once they understood that they were on board. Everybody needs somebody to be in their corner and have people love them and be a support system, and everyone needs a family,” Malarski continued.

That little girl, who is not being identified due to the stages of the adoption process the family has to go through, ended up being the best decision in Malarski’s life.

“She is very outgoing, very helpful, sweet kid, and she loves to help the other students. Anyone who needs help, she is always there, giving them hugs and helping with work,” Malarski said. “She just really has a big heart. She’s a really sweet kid. When they told her, ‘Hey, this person is interested in you living with them and being your forever mom and dad,’ she was super nervous and excited, and she came to the house like she lived there and she has been there her whole life.”

Now, Malarski is a week away from getting her certification to be the full-time special education teacher she’s strived to be. She is also only a few months away from officially making her large family of seven grow by one more.

Malarski hopes her story inspires anyone out there to never stop finding their purpose.

“Anything those kids put their minds to, they can do,” she said. “Nothing is impossible. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can always change and find your place and your meaning for your life. Just because you haven’t found your purpose yet, there is still time. You can find that purpose in what you are supposed to be doing.”

Journey band legal battle

As Journey continues its stadium tour with Def Leppard and Steve Miller , two of its members have finally settled a legal dispute.

Jonathan Cain announced Wednesday that the Delaware Chancery Court has appointed a third independent director, former Vice Chancellor Joseph Slights, for his and bandmate Neal Schon ‘s Freedom 2020 business subsidiary.

After Schon agreed last week to Cain’s request to appoint a third party tiebreaker to manage the ongoing tour, Cain’s attorney Kasey H. DeSantis accused Schon of “now seeking to inappropriately limit the role of the custodian” in a recent petition.

With each owning a 50% stake in the company, Cain previously said in a petition that he and Schon “ fundamentally disagree ” on how to manage the company.

Bassist Ross Valory, keyboardist Jonathan Cain, and founder and guitarist Neal Schon of the band Journey are seen at Prudential Center on June 15, 2018 in Newark, New Jersey.

Cain accused Schon of taking a $1.5 million advance from promoter AEG to cover tour expenses, despite Cain’s request for a more modest $500,000 advance, in addition to ignoring the company limit of $1,500 per night for hotel accommodations and spending up to $10,000 per night for hotel rooms for him and his wife.

The legal resolution comes as Journey performs Wednesday in San Francisco, moving onto San Diego on Friday.

Among the band’s hits are ‘Don’t Stop Believin,'” “Wheel In The Sky” and “Any Way You Want It.”

Still having the post-Olympics blues? There are plenty of options to recap the outstanding athletic moments in our Paris 2024 replays .

But you can also enjoy more track and field action at the 2024 Rome Diamond League .

On August 30, four of the men who lined up when Noah Lyles won gold in a thrilling 100-metre men’s Olympic final will reunite at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea .

Jamaica's silver medallist Kishane Thompson ; USA’s Fred Kerley , the bronze medal winner; Italian Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs ; and Bostwana’s 200m Olympic hero Letsile Tebogo, who was sixth in the 100m, will all be in Rome.

Find out all you need to know about the who, what and where of the third last Diamond League meeting on Friday 30 August below.

When and where is the Rome Diamond League?

The 13 th stage of the Diamond League meet will take place on Friday 30 August at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, with a regular capacity of 55,211.

Diamond League action in the stadium begins at 7:30pm local time on Friday with the men’s discus.

Star studded men’s 100m line-up to light up the Olympic Stadium in Rome

At least nine Olympic champions are likely to compete at the Golden Gala in Rome: from throwers Ryan Crouser , winner of a third consecutive Olympic shot put title, and Roje Stona , the shock discus champion from Paris, to newly crowned gold medallist jumpers Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hamish Kerr , to track stars Masai Russell (100 hurdles), Winfred Yavi (3000 steeplechase), and of course Tebogo, the 200m champion.

It’s a lineup that should somewhat meet the needs of fans fighting the Olympics hangover.

The season world leader over the 100m Thompson, who came up second by just five-thousandths of a second in 100m final at the Stade de France, will line-up for his first post-Olympics race after skipping the Diamond League in Silesia on Sunday 25 August, where Kerley won .

Kerley is back at the Golden Gala seeking a third consecutive 100m victory while Jacobs, fifth in Paris returns to the Olimpico stadium where he clinched the European gold.

Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala , the second fastest man this year, is looking to bounce back after missing out on the Olympics final. He was second behind Kerley in Silesia while the Italian Jacobs finished fourth.

Tebogo was victorious in his first meeting since Paris 2024, comfortably winning the 200m at the 2024 Lausanne Diamond League .

He didn’t fancy his chances going into the race though as he hadn’t “trained for the last eight days” as he had been celebrating his historic medal back home. He cruised to victory in 19.64 seconds ahead of the American pair of Erriyon Knighton and Kerley , before he asserted himself again over the 200m in Silesia.

The field action should be equally captivating with Crouser tipped to beat the five-year-old meeting record of 21.97 meters. His team USA teammate Joe Kovacs , the winner in Silesia, and Jamaica’s Rajindra Campbell are all confirmed for Rome. Home favourite Leonardo Fabbri , who was fifth in Paris, will also return to the scene he won a continental gold.

Stona, the men’s discus Olympic champion, and the world record holder and Paris silver medallist Mykolas Alekna are among the top seven men from the Paris 2024 Games final who will be present in Rome.

American gold medallist Davis-Woodhall goes in as the favourite in the women's long jump against fellow podium finishers Malaika Mihambo of Germany and compatriot Jasmine Moore .

History of Krasnoyarsk Krai

The first state in the territory of southern Siberia appeared in the 4th-3rd centuries BC. Ancient Chinese chronicles called it Dinlin. Around 201 BC, Dinlin state was defeated by the Hunnu (the ancestors of the Huns) - an ancient Turkic nomadic people who inhabited the steppes to the north of China from 220 BC until the 2nd century AD. To protect the country against their raids Qin Shi Huang built the Great Wall of China.

After the defeat of Dinlin, the Turkic tribe of the Kyrgyz settled in Khakass-Minusinsk depression. In 840, Kyrgyz state destroyed Uighur Khanate and extended its power in Tuva and Mongolia. At the beginning of the 13th century, the Kyrgyz were conquered by the Mongols.

Since that time, the Kyrgyz ceased to play an independent role in the Asian international politics. But in the Minusinsk Hollow, the surrounding area of Krasnoyarsk and other northern territories, the Kyrgyz were the most powerful force and resisted the Russian Cossacks who were engaged in the conquest of Siberia. In the end they could not prevent the incorporation of these territories into Russia.

More historical facts…

Until 1629, the territory of present Krasnoyarsk krai was part of a vast region with its center in the town of Tobolsk. In the 1760s-1780s, Siberia began to be used as the main place of exile. In 1822, Yenisei gubernia (province) was established after the separation of Siberia into Western and Eastern. In 1863, 44,994 exiles lived in the Yenisei province representing 1/7 of the total population of the province. According to the 1897 census, 570,200 people lived in the province.

On December 7, 1934, Krasnoyarsk Krai was formed. The borders of the region were almost the same as of Yenisei gubernia of the Russian Empire. In 1991, Khakassia Autonomous Oblast being originally part of the region became a separate subject of Russia - the Republic of Khakassia.

On January 1, 2007, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Taimyr (Dolgano-Nenetsky) Autonomous Okrug and Evenky Autonomous Okrug were united in a single region called Krasnoyarsk Krai, the autonomous okrugs became Taimyr (Dolgano-Nenetsky) and Evenky districts.
