Krka National Park – boat excursions inside the park
The Krka National Park is one of the most famous and beautiful parks in the Republic of Croatia, which offers a visit to beautiful waterfalls and unforgettable scenes, as well as boat trips. The Krka waterfalls can be reached with the help of our daily Krka tours from Split, however, many visitors and tourists can ask us if there are boat trips within the national park and whether a ticket can be purchased for them. There are three boat excursion routes inside the Krka national park named the Visovac Island Tour, the Roški Slap Tour and the Krka Monastery Tour and the Trošenj and Nečven Forts. Boat excursion tickets can be taken inside the National Park itself.
Visovac Island tour
Visovac is reached by a boat starting from Skradinski buk, and because of its attractiveness, the island itself attracted pilgrims for many years, and today pilgrimage trips to that island are organized. This tour lasts an average of two hours and includes half-an-hour sightseeing of the church, Franciscan monastery and museum.
Raška Waterfall Tour
The Roški waterfall is also a boat tour from Skradinski buk and the excursion itself lasts four hours and includes a visit to the island of Visovac and passing by the Roški waterfall.
Krka Monastery and the Trošenj and Nečven fortifications
The Krka Monastery is a spiritual centre for Orthodox believers that is very attractive to visitors. This boat tour takes an average of 2 hours and 30 minutes
You can find tour prices on the official website of Krka National Park.

The stop on an island was perfect. It was beautifull and you had time to swim and snorkel. If you want to snorkel, bring your own gear. Read more Written July 19, 2023
- laurai356 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Good day trip Good boat trip from Vodice marina, cruising past the islands and then a couple of hours free time on one of the islands. You can walk to the view point, swim in the salt lake or just swim in the beautiful water. This boat was more comfortable than the one to Krka as the seats were padded. There are nice areas to sit indoors or outside in shade or sun. There was a saxophone player on board which was fab. Saw a quick glimpse of a dolphin fin. We went all inclusive and had a different wrist band so had unlimited drinks including beer, wine , bottled water and soft drinks. It was more money but we negotiated a 10% discount as also booked the Krka trip through sane company (destina are pretty much the only operator from Vodice so whoever you book with it’s same company). We booked at one of their stands around the harbour. The all inclusive lunch was steak but we opted for chicken as I am funny about how steak is cooked. Lunch was large and tasty, wine and water included on the table. Only negative was they shut the bar while making lunch but way before lunch started so we were not able to get a drink to have with lunch ( when you’ve paid for all inclusive you want to be able to use it!). No notice they were closing the bar, should give ten mins notice so people can grab a quick drink if they are thirsty rather than having to wait an hour until lunch is done. Lunch is served quite early like 11.45. Toilets on board although by the end they were not the nicest… Overall it’s a good day trip. I would recommend asking about all inclusive as not all tour operators seem to tell you about this option. Read more Written June 25, 2023

- 686hegeh 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Floating party, not recommended This is being marketed as a boat trip to a national park, with appealing marketing pictures. But in fact, it’s more like a floating party. The staff was attending and nice, but they started serving alcohol at 8.45 am, and a lot of people onboard got drunk and very unpleasant. We witnessed some guests threatening others, and we saw spilling of alcohol and people falling asleep during the trip because they were drunk. We travelled with children who did not enjoy this, and unless you’re looking for a party I would not recommend this trip. I think the fact that they offer “all inclusive” options with free bar indicates what the purpose of the trip really is. The scenery is lovely, but we couldn’t concentrate on that because of all the noise. Would not go again, did not font it worth the money. Read more Written July 16, 2022

- duostravelling 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles NP Krka tour We took a tour to the Krka National park with Destina Vodice. The trip itself consisted of a boat trip the the national park as well as at least 3 hours of free time in the park before getting back on the boat to come back to Vodice. It was a lovely boat trip, would recommend getting there via boat than a bus. The free time suited us best as that way we could enjoy the park at our own pace. The crew were lovely and welcoming providing you with extremely fresh mussels we picked up as we rode by. They also give you information of the trip and area in several different languages. There only thing I would say is I would have liked to have an opportunity to swim whilst on the boat maybe stopping somewhere to have a swim on the way back/there. Overall a good experience! A shot of schnapps certainly wakes you up, A hearty lunch was served, Fish, Chicken or Vegetarian options available served with pickled cabbage, wine and water. Arrived in Telescica to see the salt lake and a lovely viewpoint. Restaurants were available there. We stayed for 2 hours and then the heavens opened. Back onboard and back to Vodice via a different route. Good explanation of what we were seeing in 3 different languages. There was a large contingent of Slovenians onboard and it turned into a party boat on the way back, we loved it but I think some of the Germans onboard were not so keen. - Patrizia Z 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Krka & Kornati excursions - wonderful 😍 Tour to Krka NP and Kornati NP The tours are certainly worth the money (350KN /pp). Krka also includes the park entrance fee while the Kornati tour includes lunch (grilled Makrel or Chicken). Both tours start with a grappa which is somewhat challenging at 9.00. Although you get told to be at the boat at 8.45, unless you arrive by 8.00 forget about getting a decent place. For the Kornati trip there were two boats, as we were suuuuper early we were lucky to thus catch a place on the newer boat which was a treat. Staff on both boats are super nice and helpful. Both destinations are beautiful in their own way, but Krka a challenge as it is sooooooo crowded. Last time I saw so many ppl in one spot was at a concert. You can swim, but getting into the water is a challenge as you have to climb over roots and rocks. Kornati is a larger area to spread out the people, and obviously not as easy to get to, the salt lake is huge so you can easily find a quieter spot, the walk up to see the cliff amazing! Water shoes are recommended for both trips if you plan to swim! I would recommend the tours to anyone! Read more Written August 19, 2018

Where to Camp
Where to stay nearby, how to get there, tips for your visit, krka national park.
Named for the Krka River and known for its waterfalls and monasteries, Krka National Park has a rich history despite being one of the youngest national parks in Croatia. A movement to make the Krka River a national park started in 1971, but it wasn't until 1985 that the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia proclaimed the area spanning from the early Croatian fortresses of Trošenj and Nečven to the Šibenik Bridge as a national park. The park initially covered 55 square miles (142 square kilometers), however, in 1997 the Croatian Parliament revised the park boundaries to stretch for more than 43 miles (70 kilometers) along the upper and middle course of the Krka River through Adriatic near Sibenik interior to the mountains of the Croatian epicenter.
Krka National Park features a variety of hiking trails, boat excursions, biking paths, and educational workshops for families to enjoy. Visitors can enjoy relaxing in the remote landscape away from big crowds and take in sweeping views of waterfalls, rivers, and gorges.
Tourists travel to Krka National Park for a host of reasons ranging from enjoying the hiking trails to seeing the gorgeous waterfalls and monasteries situated within the park. The top site to visit during a trip to Krka National Park is surely the Krka Monastery—the most significant Serbian Orthodox monastery in Croatia. A local guide is available from mid-June to mid-October to show you around and discuss the unique architecture and history of the monastery which was founded in 1345. A boat trip to the monastery is also available from Roski Slap waterfall also situated in the park.
While you're near Roski Slap head to the Eastern side where travelers can visit water mills that were used to grind wheat. Then you can take another boat ride to visit the next waterfall in the park, Skradinski Buk. The series of falls stretch for more than 2,600 feet (800 meters) and feature cascading waters that land in the emerald green river below full of tropical fish. Visitors can also enjoy visiting the nearby mill cottages which were converted into souvenir shops, craft workshops, and small restaurants.
Best Hikes & Trails
Krka National Park features plenty of hiking trails and viewpoints to experience with families, friends, or on your own. Many of the trails are modest but some do include steep hills to climb so choose carefully based on guideposts. It’s imperative to wear comfortable shoes, carry a bottle of water, and apply sunscreen for your time hiking the array of trails in the park. Use the park guidebook provided at the entrance to differentiate and plan the trails which are most suitable for you.
- Skradin Bridge: The blue Skradin Bridge was first constructed in 1953 and marks the southwestern boundary of Krka National Park. The 2.1-mile (3.4-kilometer) trail begins at the reception at the Skradin Bridge and is made of gravel and dirt, so you may need to be careful of your footing. It features both walking and cycling trails.
- Skradinski Buk Trail: The Skradinski Buk Trail is located near Skradinski Buk waterfall, which is the longest, most famed waterfall in the park. The start of the trail is positioned at the wooden bridge over the falls or can you go through the ethno-village. The trail is 1.2 miles (1.9 kilometers) long and visitors can take in beautiful views of the white waves crashing nearby from the waterfall.
- Manojlovac Trail: The short Manojlovac Trail leads to the tallest waterfall at Krka Park, Manojlovac fall. The 196-foot (60-meter) waterfall is separated by a series of natural travertine stone barriers. Visitors can enjoy the imperial viewing points, which are divided by stairs with a slight incline and decline. However, people with mobility issues or who are using strollers or wheelchairs will not be able to walk the Manojlovac trail.
- Krka Monastery Trail: The Krka Monastery Trail is a 1.3-mile-long (2.1-kilometer) circular path that is reachable directly from the courtyard of the monastery. The pathway is lined with hackberry trees, which provide comfortable shade for a relaxing hike. The trail is on a gravel road, however, so make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.
- Roman Path Trail: This famed hiking path runs for 2,066 feet (630 meters) and is the historical path of the Illyrian tribes and ancient Romans. The pathway was important to locals as it leads to preindustrial watermills. The trail starts as gravel and has a slight incline at the trailhead.
There aren't any campgrounds inside Krka National Park, however, there are many options very close by. Situated near the entrance of Krka National Park is Camp Krka , a 2.47-acre (10,000 square meters) campground covered in pine trees that houses a number of mobile homes and tents. There are sanitary facilities at two on-site locations, as well as a children’s playground and bowling alley. Additionally, excursions are offered for day trips to Krka National Park. Additional camping areas in the area include the following:
- Camp Marina : Marina offers 40 camping units, five-day rooms, two sanitary facilities, a swimming pool, and an on-site restaurant. The area is covered with pine trees and a good amount of shade to enjoy outdoor activities such as paintball and cycling the area.
- Camp Skradinske Delicije : Skradinskke Delicije Camp is also situated close to the main entrance of Krka National Park. The campsite features 35 shaded pitches offering water, electricity, and drainage connections. The site is pet-friendly and has an on-site restaurant with a supermarket and beach nearby.
- Camp Robeko : Located 15 kilometers from Krka Park, this campsite offers 20 camping pitches surrounded by a vineyard and garden. In addition to the relaxing surrounding, there is on-site laundry, an outdoor pool, and a dining room available for use.
- Camping Skradin- Skorici : In the village of Skorici is the small family camp Skradin-Skorici, a suitable camping option 0.62 miles (1 kilometer) from the center of Skradin and Krka National Park. It has an outdoor pool, access to a garden with wine and olives on offer, and free transport to boats that transfer visitors to various Krka waterfalls.
There are no official hotels located in Krka National Park, but there are plenty of options in nearby cities like Sibenik, Skradin or Lozovac. Here are some of the best local hotels:
- D-Resort Sibenik : Located in the historic city Sibenik on the Adriatic coast, this luxury resort is known for its fantastic art installations, stunning accommodations, pool, and on-site spa. It also features great views of the marina, several bars, and restaurants serving international and Mediterranean cuisine.
- Medulic Palace Rooms & Apartments : With a central location in the heart of Sibenik Old Town, this hotel is a great choice for those looking to be in the center of it all. You'll have a nice choice of restaurants and stunning views of the old town’s beautiful cobblestone roads.
- Vrata Krke Hotel : This hotel has the perfect location in Lozovac near the main entrance to Krka National Park. It's close to the Skradinski Buk waterfalls, making it a great choice for those looking to explore that area of the grounds. It features cycling paths, an on-site restaurant, and even a wedding hall.
The town of Skradin is one of the main access ways to the park and is situated near one of the two main entrances. Visitors can enter the park by taking a picturesque ferry ride from Skradin down the Krka River. The other main entryway is from Lozovac, which is located 4.5 miles (7.3 kilometers) south of Skradin. The Lozovac entrance offers an abundance of parking spots, so it's the better choice for those driving. The park is located in Croatia’s southern expanse of Dalmatia, in between Zadar and Split.
The park is accessible by road for those self-driving or those interested in a private transfer option. Several bus options are available for those traveling from Split, Zadar, or Sibenik. Unfortunately, it is not possible to travel to Krka National Park by train, however for those interested in flying, the nearest airport is Split International Airport located 26 miles(42 kilometers) away.
- It is recommended to rent a car for the easiest level of access to Krka National Park. Several spots are only accessible via road, so a car is necessary to explore the largest area of the park.
- Arrive early to Skradinski Buk as it is the most famed area of the park and can get quite crowded. Getting there early ensures that you can enjoy the area on your own before tour groups reach the park.
- Avoid traveling to the park during peak season of June through September in order to beat the crowds and get cheaper prices on entry fees.
- A boat tour is available in the park but it is not included in the ticket price.
- From April through October, you can ride a boat from Skradin or take a shuttle bus from Lozovac to enter the park. Both will take you close to Skradinski Buk waterfall and both are included in the entry fee to the park.

2. Prvić Island
Prvić is the first island to the mainland of Vodice, only 1000 m away. It is inhabited by two picturesque, typical Mediterranean villages with stone houses and alleys, Prvić Šepurine and Prvić Luka, with about two hundred inhabitants in each. Because of their authenticity, they are protected as a cultural entity.
The island abounds in gorgeous natural beaches and the gentle terrain, with the present traces of arable land that testify for the people of Prvić as valuable farmers who cultivated a wide range of overseas lands along with their own.
Nowadays, Srima is a modern tourist resort connected to Vodice, but it was inhabited in prehistoric and ancient times. Archaeological finds of two one-nave basilicas, known among the population as “Prižba”, were found at the Srimska Lokva site. They are also called twin churches because they were built next to each other.
It was on Srima that the inhabitants of Prvić had vineyards, so the real jewel of dry-stone heritage remained from that time, hidden from the sea – “Domaćinova bunja” (Host’s Shelter) with a height of over 5 m. It was constructed to provide owners with accommodation when they had to stay longer to work in the vineyard, outside the main island of Prvić.
Zlarin is called the Golden Island because it is believed that its name comes from the Latin word golden.
It is also called Green Island because of its wooded appearance, the absence of cars, and cause it is the first “island without plastic” in Croatia.
However, Zlarin is best known as a coral island due to the long tradition of hunting and processing corals dating back to the 14th century. The Museum of Corals at the island shows that tradition, and the ecosystem of the Šibenik archipelago.
Jadrija is the first beach in Šibenik, a city district and a monument of cultural heritage. It is placed at the Šibenik Channel entrance, on a peninsula formed by an embankment in 1922 to connect St Andrew’s islet with the mainland.
The dominant view of Jadrija is the lighthouse, still in function, whose construction began in 1816 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was built as part of a lighthouse system on the Adriatic’s east coast, intended to ensure trade sea routes’ safety.
6. St Anthony's Channel
St Anthony’s Channel is the only sea route to Šibenik. It was protected in 1974 as a natural phenomenon due to its landscape value.
The Channel is characterized by Aleppo pine and holm oak forests, the vegetation of about 600 plant species, and an underwater world of 56 shellfish species and an abundance of fish. The dominant feature of the relief is karst.
It is a little more than 2000 m long, 220 m wide and 40 m deep. In the past, it had two towers between which an iron chain stretched and defended the entrance to the city for the enemy ships.
Due to the Channel ‘s narrow width, the traffic of larger ships is regulated by traffic lights.
7. Fortress of St. Nicholas
Under UNESCO protection, this fortress is one of the essential Venetian fortifications outside Venice, built for defence against the Ottomans. Famous as one of the most beautiful forts on the Adriatic. It was built on the islet of Ljuljevac, to which people eventually paved the way, and access to the fortress is now possible by land.
At the time of its construction, in 1540, it cost as much as half of Dalmatia, 40,000 ducats. The builders of the fortress are the distinguished Venetian Sanmicheli family.
8. The hermit's cave or the cave of St. Ante
There is the Cave of St Anthony, the abbot in the Channel that has served as a chapel since the Middle Ages.
Hermits also lived in it, including the Zadar nobleman Jeronim Detrico, buried there in 1615. One stone has been preserved from the church equipment, into which water drips from the rock. During the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, cannons were located there, and in the SFRY the cave continued to be used for military purposes.
9. Hitler's eyes
During the Second World War, Germany began digging a sea tunnel in the living rock that was supposed to accommodate the “Schnellboots.” People, therefore, popularly called the tunnel “Hitler’s eyes.” When only the excavated rock remained after the war, the post-war Yugoslavia army took over the tunnel, concreted it and used it for patrol boats.
10. Šibenik
Šibenik, as one of the historical Croatian cities, was first mentioned in the middle of the 11th century in a document of King Petar Krešimir IV.
The view is dominated by its four fortifications: St Nicholas, St Michael, St John and Barone.
Of the sacred monuments, of which the city has 24 churches and six monasteries, from a distance, the Cathedral of St James, a unique monument of European sacral culture attracts the eye’s attention. The cathedral was constructed entirely of stone, without any other materials and is the work of Juraj Dalmatinac and Nikola Firentinac, placed under the care of UNESCO World Heritage.
11. Shell farm in Šibenik Bay
On the way to Krka, we will stop to collect mussels at one of the shellfish farms, which we call “pidoče” in this area. You will taste fresh, freshly picked mussels, prepared on board as a speciality of this area. Mussels are prepared on “buzara” in a simple, traditional Dalmatian way that best expresses their exceptional taste.
12. Šibenik bridge
In terms of construction features, it is one of the top ranges in the world of bridge construction.
It is notable because of the reinforced concrete arch, which was the first in the world to be entirely made by the cantilever approach, without scaffolding resting on the ground.
Concreting sections made the arch of 28 m on a steel scaffold hung over the top of the pillar above the heel of the arch anchored in the abutment at the end of the bridge.
Until the bridge was opened to traffic in the 1960s, traffic between the places took place by the sea.
Zaton is a village on the edge of the bay of the same name that connects the brackish Prokljansko Lake with the Šibenik Bay. In this area, there are freshwater sources along the coast, so the salinity of the sea is not felt, and the proximity of the river is already noticeable in the landscape. Until the Šibenik Bridge construction in the 1960s, Zaton was connected to Šibenik by a regular ferry line.
14. Channel of St. Josip or the Prokljanska canal
The Prokljan Channel stretches from Šibenik to the entrance to Lake Prokljan. Its biggest depth is precisely below the Šibenik bridge and is 36 m. There are white fish farms (goldfish and sea bass) at two locations, and about ten sites of mussel farms (“pidoća”) which are among the most excellent quality due to the mixing of fresh and salt water and plant plankton in Croatia.
15. Prokljansko lake/sea
Lake Prokljan, with an area of 11 square kilometres, is the second-largest in Croatia and formed in the lower course of the river Krka which there encounters the mouth of the Guduča River. Due to the sea’s contact, the water is salty in the lower layers and sweet on the surface. That is why it is also called the Prokljan Sea.
In the northern part, the lake is very shallow, 1-2 m, and in the southern region, it reaches a depth of 25 meters. It is a natural phenomenon of crypto depression which means that the lake surface is above sea level and its bottom is below sea level.
16. Gavan's courts
Gavan’s Court is the name of a place on Lake Prokljan, where, in addition to the historical remains of the walls, according to locals, fragments of marble, decorated stones, Roman bricks, lead pipes and jewellery were found. According to the legend, a haughty rich woman, a “gavanuša”, rudely chased off an angel disguised as a beggar for three times, and when the angel flooded her court, the Lake Prokljan was created.
17. Krka Bridge
The Krka Bridge is an arched reinforced concrete bridge over the Krka, 391 m long, intended for road traffic. As it is positioned near the National Park, it was constructed with a completely closed drainage system to preserve the environment. Precipitation polluted by traffic is drained in a controlled manner, and only after treatment in specialized techniques, they get released into the environment.
18. Skradin
Skradin is the oldest settlement in Šibenik-Knin County, on the edge of Prokljansko Lake. It was inhabited early in prehistoric, Liburnian and Roman times. In the Croatian Middle Ages, it was associated with the Bribir dukes Šubić. Later it came under the rule of Venice and the Turks.
Today’s outlines the city in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a favourite destination of sailors and lovers of romantic places where you can feel the comfort of the water-rich region and the river Krka’s refreshing proximity.
19. Skradin bridge
The Skradinski Bridge was built in 1953 and marked the National Park’s southwestern border and the beginning of the Park entrance. In its place once was an iron bridge, demolished in World War II. Passing under the bridge, you enter the canyon that was formerly used for the traffic of ships from all over Dalmatia that transported grain ground in the mills on Skradinski Buk. Currently, it is a magnificent path of greenery that leads to Skradinski Buk.
20. Skradinski buk
Skradinski Buk is the last, seventh and longest travertine barrier on the Krka. The deposition of limestone and the growth of travertine layers here caused the watering of the Krka River to Roški Waterfall and three kilometres of the lower course of the Čikola River and created one of the most impressive landscapes of the National Park. The water of the rivers Krka and Čikola flows together over 17 steps of Skradinski Buk, spread over 800 meters in length. The waterfall width is from 200 to 400 meters, and the total height difference is 45.7 m.
21. Historical mills (Mlinice)
You can perceive what the traditional life on the Krka used to be like in a complex of restored mills from the 19th century, which contain a grain mill, hammer steps for softening wool and blankets, a smithy and a traditional “kitchen.” They are a significant monument of the Šibenik region as one of the leading sources of the economic strength of the city of Šibenik. The grain from numerous towns along the entire Adriatic coast ground here.
22. Jaruga hydroelectric plant
The Jaruga hydroelectric power plant is the second oldest hydroelectric power plant globally and the first in Europe. It was made according to the designs of Nikola Tesla. Thanks to its construction in 1895, Šibenik received public lighting and alternating current in homes above all in the world. It was built under the waterfall, and today one of the turbines of the first hydroelectric power plant is on display at Skradinski Buk. Next to the first, ten years later, the second hydroelectric power plant Jaruga II was built, which is still operating today.

Visiting Krka National Park in Croatia
UPDATED: 18.1.2023.
Only a few kilometers from the city of Šibenik, on the most beautiful parts of the Krka and Čikola rivers, lies a natural, karst phenomenon: Krka National Park.
Krka became a national park in 1985. A large number of lakes and waterfalls, a high density of aromatic lavender, wasps, and bees, and a surreal view are some of Krka’s most wonderful attributes.
Krka’s Skradinski buk is known as one of the most beautiful calcium carbonate waterfalls in Europe. Under Skradinski buk lies Hydroelectric Power Plant Jaruga, one of the oldest power-generating facilities in the world.
With preserved ecosystems and plenty of scientific, educational, recreational, and touristic opportunities, Krka stands as one of the most stunning and unique national parks in Croatia and beyond.
In this post, we cover:
- Why visit Krka
- How to get to Krka
- When to visit Krka
- Admission and tickets
- Ferry schedule
The facts are these…
Nacionalni park Krka – Croatia’s stunning national park
