• MSC Armonia will sail 7-night Caribbean itineraries with two days in Havana • An enhanced onboard experience for guests includes new dining and entertainment with a Cuban and American twist Geneva, Switzerland, October 11, 2018 – In just under two months until MSC Cruises world’s largest privately-owned cruise line and leading cruise line in Europe and South America, introduces MSC Armonia to Miami for the first time. Beginning December 10th this year, MSC Armonia will offer unique 7-night Caribbean sailings departing from Miami and calling Montego Bay, Jamaica; Georgetown, Cayman Islands; and Cozumel, Mexico before arriving in Havana, the Cuban capital, on Saturday and staying overnight to Sunday. MSC Cruises’ 7-night programme to Cuba  will include two days in the bustling city of Havana over the weekend. And, as excitement builds for this company-first, MSC Cruises will also introduce even more distinct culinary and entertainment features on board the ship to further elevate the guest experience, including elements of the Havana experience brought on board, a brand new specialty restaurant, original theatre performances and more. MSC Armonia will join MSC Seaside and MSC Divina in Miami, further enriching our offer Not only will we offer MSC Cruises’ guests a brand new attractive itinerary, but also a variety of enhancements to make the MSC Armonia experience that much more memorable. On board, guests will delight in fresh entertainment and new gourmet culinary choices, while on shore, an overnight in Havana will allow guests to fully experience the culturally vibrant city. Highlights of the Cuba cruise include the following: NEW ONBOARD CULINARY ENHANCEMENTS A new, mouth-watering specialty restaurant MSC Armonia will introduce a brand new specialty restaurant to the culinary line-up. The 38-seat “Surf & Turf” will serve a delectable menu, where guests can select an appetiser, main course and dessert from an assortment of gourmet options. For main courses, the Surf & Turf offers the best of both worlds, with a delicious filet mignon and tempting cold water lobster tail. Additional entrée highlights include a Lobster Thermidor, baked in shell with a mushroom cream sauce, and the 18 oz Certified Angus Beef Bone-in Ribeye. Desserts are as varied as they are divine with a Guava cheesecake, dressed in a warm Rum sauce, a Red Velvet Cake, and a Seven Layers Mexican Chocolate cake. Havana-inspired Mojito Bar Bringing the Cuban experience on board, MSC Armonia will transform one of its bars into a Havana haven, with a wide range of Mojito cocktails to choose from, whether traditional or out-of-the-box. Enhanced Pub Menu MSC Armonia ’s White Lion Pub will introduce a new and complimentary menu featuring hand-helds like the befitting Cuban sandwich, a Mojo Chicken Quesadilla, an Avocado and Tuna Salad Wrap, and Spinach and Artichoke Dip to share. The pub will also continue serving a wide selection of beers, including four new additions -- Heineken, Newcastle Brown Ale, Murphy’s Irish Stout, and Lagunitas IPA. New included delights MSC Armonia will also introduce some complimentary treats with the cruise experience. MSC Cruises is already known for offering some of the best gelato at sea and now, every creamy bite comes included with the cruise, leaving guests plenty of opportunity to try every flavour on board. In the main dining room, guests will be able to enjoy cold-water lobster to create their own surf ‘n turf at no additional cost. While dining on these elevated offerings, Aurea Experience guests will also have the option to dine al fresco, with a reserved outdoor area, featuring the open water as the backdrop. NEW ENTERTAINMENT CONCEPTS In addition to MSC Cruises fan-favourite parties like the White Party and Silent Disco, a highlight of MSC Armonia’s entertainment offering will be the addition of local Cuban music while in port in Cuba. Straight from the city of Havana, various musicians will join guests on board to play the best of local Cuban music during the Saturday evening of the ship’s overnight stay in Havana. MSC Armonia ’s evening theatre entertainment will undergo a complete review, with an entire line-up of new performances to be introduced on board. Cruisers will marvel at a new, distinct show each evening. And the shows will include dynamic, virtual sets with the addition of a central upstage LED screen to display a variety of vistas for each show. Shows include: • ABYSS : A mermaid’s spectacular adventures under the sea. • THE TIME OF MY LIFE : Inspired by the famous 80s film, Dirty Dancing, the show features songs, dances and a story that still captures audiences to this day. • ADDAMS FAMILY : The quirky family stars in this hilarious show, inspired by the satirical and ironic portrayal of the 20th century American Dream family. • FRENCH FOLLIES : An all-French variety show, with artists, dancers, singers that come together for an elegant and joyful show. • THE GREATEST : Featuring the best of Broadway, guests are taken through the most iconic pieces of musical theatre. • ITALIAN TOUCH : True to MSC Cruises’ Mediterranean heritage, this show will feature Italian music and the most unforgettable Italian songs. MORE TIME TO EXPERIENCE LA HAVANA With an overnight stay in the buzzing capital of Cuba, MSC Armonia’s guests will be able to fully enjoy all that the city has to offer day and night. Cruisers will be able to fully immerse themselves in many aspects of Cuban culture, both during the day and in the evening, through a variety of unique excursions to choose from. Shore excursions will explore local highlights from music, art and architecture to classic cigar rolling, rum distilling and much more. Guests can: • Ride in vintage American cars , a staple of the Havana experience. On this tour, guests will tour the city in classic vehicles down the seafront Malecón boulevards and Wuinta Avenida. Guests will stop for a historic photo opportunity at Plaza de la Revolución, and then head to the famous Christopher Columbus Cemetery. As the drive continues, participants will marvel at some of the city’s key landmarks. • Sip on local rum and classic Hanabos cigars to learn about a key part of Cuban culture. Guests will visit a cigar factory to watch highly-skilled torcedors as they hand-roll Cuban cigars. Then, cruisers will head to the Havana Club Museum to learn about how freshly cut sugarcane is distilled into rum and then try some of the final product. • Dance at Havana’s largest nightclub , the renowned Tropicana Club. Founded in 1939 in Havana’s Marianao suburb, the Tropicana Club is an iconic celebration of Cuban culture with tropical surroundings. Visitors will listen to live music and see a variety of performers in vibrant costumes, while sipping on a local cocktail and dancing the night away. Prior to these current onboard enhancements, MSC Armonia was the first ship in MSC Cruises’ $250 million Renaissance Program, where the ship was stretched in late 2014, adding a variety of new on board features. When will ferries to Cuba start?

As of now, the bilateral agreement between both sides that would allow ferry sailings between the USA and Cuba has yet to be 100% agreed. Thus, unfortunately there are not any ferries sailing at the moment. However, political and Business analysts have forecasted that by summer 2017, ferry travel will be up and running between Florida and Cuba.

How long will it take to get to Cuba by ferry?

The inaugural sailings will be from Miami to Havana and/or Port Everglades to Havana. Departing around 8:00-9:00pm arriving at around 6:00-7:00Am. The 250 nautical mile journey will take the fast ferry about 10 hours to complete. From Key West, the sailing distance to Cuba is around 90 nautical miles, a mere 4 hours away.

Where will the Cuba ferries depart from?

The ferries initially will depart from a few key ports stateside: Miami, Port-Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), with Key West and Tampa as prospective additional ports to be added at a later date depending on the success of the initial ports.

Where will the ferries sail to?

The ferries initially will arrive solely at either the Port of Mariel about 40miles southwest of Havana, or the Port of Havana. Other possible arrival ports may be considered for renovation in the future, making them available to receive ferries.

Which ferry lines will sail to Cuba?

As of late 2016 there are numerous companies that have received the US Department of Treasury and Commerce’s approval to sail to Cuba. American Cruise Ferries, Baja Ferries, Baleària, CubaKat, Havana Express, FRS, Attica Group & United Caribbean Lines.

What to do before or after your cruise from portmiami.

There’s always something new at PortMiami , the cruise capital of the world. If it’s not a new terminal , it’s a new cruise ship sailing from the world’s busiest cruise port. Some 7.3 million passengers boarded cruise ships in PortMiami in 2022-2023.

That's a lot of people roaming around Miami in anticipation of a cruise that could take them to the Southern Caribbean, South America, Antarctica or even around the world.

Rest assured, there are tons of things to do in South Florida to entertain any cruisers who arrive a day or two early or extend their vacation after the cruise. There’s world-class food, shopping, art and views at every turn. Plus the people-watching is first-rate. You never know who you might see in a Miami Beach club or shop, be it a pro athlete, a pop star or a reality show real wife from somewhere.

PortMiami is less than 10 miles from Miami International Airport and cars are easily rented there if you arrive in Florida with time to spare. And you really should plan on that because Miami is a cultural playground that will set the tone for whatever cruise itinerary awaits. Even if you don’t have access to a car, taxis and ride share options are easily had. Also, the Miami city trolley’s Coral Way route stops in three places at MiamiPort. The trolley is free.

PortMiami is on Dodge Island, which is adjacent to the state’s most exclusive residential islands, including Fisher and Star islands. Reported to own homes on Fisher Island are Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts and tennis great Boris Becker along with Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner. Nearby Star Island also has its share of celebs including Gloria Estefan, Shaquille O’Neal and Enrique Inglesias. Starstruck travelers won’t be able to get on the islands, but there are boating excursions that cruise past the stars’ backyards. Don’t care about stars? Check out the opulent architecture.

When it comes to dining, Miami serves the world on a platter. From Cuban and Latin American specialties to award-winning Japanese sushi and omakase experiences to local flavors that celebrate the sea, the city hums with good taste. Miami has one two-star Michelin restaurant and 11 restaurants that have been awarded one star, plus plenty more that get other recognitions. The Michelin Guide has just come to Florida and shined its light on Miami. If you want the two-star experience, check out L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon Miami . Bring your wallet. Dinner is easily $200 a person, before drinks.

But there are other places to eat just a few miles from PortMiami, some with legendary status like Joe’s Stone Crab on Miami Beach and Versailles Cuban restaurant in the city’s Little Havana neighborhood. There’s not a major campaigning politician, presidential hopefuls included, who doesn’t stop into Versailles to court Miami’s powerful Latin vote. Want something low-key but supremely interesting? Head to the Wynwood arts district for a tasty something-something from James Beard honored Artisan Jewish baker, Zak Stern. His Zak the Baker bakery draws foodies from all over and reservations are a wise move.

There’s plenty more things to do before or after your cruise out of PortMiami. Here are five ways to add value to your cruise vacation in the vibrant city of Miami.

Explore Miami Beach

The beachside town is known for neon-lit nightclubs and trendy fashion, but it is also home to a string of Art Deco architectural jewels plus other landmark buildings classified as Mediterranean Revival or Miami Modern. The Miami Design Preservation League has self-guided (with app-based audio) and narrated walking tours, which take about two hours. Feel like taking in the sites on wheels? The free Miami Beach Trolley takes riders up and down the barrier island on the ocean-side road which lets you see the old Art Deco hotels that have been transformed into boutique accommodations with nightclubs, past the legendary Fontainebleau Hotel and even by the mansion where designer Gianni Versace was gunned down. The trolley is mostly transportation and is not narrated. Still, it’s free and you can hop off and get back on along the way. Another way to explore the area is the seven-mile Miami Beach Boardwalk which runs between the beach and the back of the buildings on the east side of Collins Avenue for about 40 blocks. The boardwalk is open to runners, walkers and skaters; some stretches are okay for bicyclists.

Read the Walls

The Wynwood Walls Arts District is an example of urban evolution. Empty warehouses north of downtown Miami have been transformed into an open-air art museum thanks to 35 murals and creative artists. The walls explode with colorful art, some of it making social commentary. The Cost is $12 (less for military personnel, seniors and kids) to wander around on your own. Guided tours are $20. The art district has spawned retail shops and places to eat and drink. After you’ve satisfied your taste for mural art, stop at J. Wakefield Brewery for a cold brew with a wicked fun name like Hops 4 Teacher American IPA or an Amber Waves red ale. Dasher & Crank has tropical ice cream for the kids. Two scoops of mojito for the adults, please. If it happens to be raining when you want to visit, consider ducking into the Museum of Graffiti just a couple blocks away from the murals.

Take an Historic Dip

The Venetian Pool might just be the most unusual place you ever swim and at least the most historic. Tucked into a neighborhood in Coral Gables, just south of PortMiami, it’s near the University of Miami and the tony Miracle Mile shopping and dining district. The pool was built in 1923 from a coral rock quarry and is fed by spring water from an underground aquifer. It looks like something out of a vintage movie with its Mediterranean Revival structures and a waterfall reminiscent of a South Pacific scene. But it’s thoroughly modern in many ways, hosting kids birthday parties and staffed with lifeguards. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places. Entry is $6.95 to $22 depending on age and season. The pool is closed December and January, and every Monday.

Bike on Key Biscayne

A few miles from MiamiPort is the barrier island of Key Biscayne, which for years has been the winter home of politicians, celebrities and anyone who wants to escape from the cold weather up North. Key Biscayne is lush with tropical foliage and boasts one of the nicest beaches in South Florida, the municipal Crandon Park beach lined with 13 lifeguard stands. It’s here that you can rent a bicycle or a four-wheel surrey for four to pedal the length of the four-mile island. Before you take off, hang out at Crandon beach for a while, maybe even rent a cabana . Crandon takes up about half of the key and a residential/hotel area separates it from Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park (party entry is $8). At the tip of the island is the Cape Florida Lighthouse , built in 1825. This is a great place to take photos, including selfies. The intrepid can climb the 109-step spiral staircase to the top, and there are benches below where non- climbers can wait. Check before you go to make sure restoration work is finished. There are places to stop for food and drink along the residential portion of Key Biscayne. Another place to explore is Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center , also called the Biscayne Nature Center. Around the center are four marked trails that can be hiked in 25 to 60 minutes.

Get a Little Culture

The Pérez Art Museum Miami is one of the city’s newest museums and it features contemporary art of the 20th and 21th century. It’s a quick free trolley ride (Coral Way route) from MiamiPort and you’ll be transported to a building as interesting outside as it is inside. The museum sits on Biscayne Bay and its iconic hanging gardens —seven columns of plants—create a living sculpture. The design of the building pays homage to “Stiltsville,” the stilted fish houses built in the ’20s and ’30s near Cape Florida now under the auspices of the National Park Service. Inside the museum, are lots of works by Latin American artists among the permanent collections plus special exhibitions. Entry to the museum is $18 for adults and free for teachers, active and retired military, and first responders. Within walking distance is the Frost Science Museum, Aquarium and Planetarium with occasional events and activities for kids.
