Not just that, Bangalore is home to some of the best colleges in India as well as some leading organisations. However, there's a softer side to this city. Bangalore is also famously known as the " Garden City " due to the vast, well-kept gardens scattered across the city. There are also a multitude of great cafes and restaurants in Bangalore. Apart from all this, Bangalore has some iconic sights such as the Vidhan Soudha and Bangalore Palace. While Bangalore may not be a place you'd want to spend many days in, but it's certainly a good place to visit on a weekend for even for one day. This Bangalore itinerary tell you all the places to visit in Bangalore in 1 day. But if you have more time, you can visit some of the other places here or even do a quick day trip to Mysuru.

1. Cubbon Park

Start your one day in Bangalore by taking an early-morning stroll in Cubbon Park . Among the hustle and bustle of the city, you’ll find this expansive area to be relaxed and calming. Here you’ll find people running, doing yoga, walking their dogs and even cycling. It’s great to see a whole bunch of people with varied interests coming together with one common intent - to relax and maintain their fitness. Granted that my image of Cubbon park doesn't look that appealing but trust me, this Bangalore park is better than my shoddy image of it.

2. Vidhan Soudha

Vidhan Soudha, an iconic landmark of Bangalore is just a short walking distance from Cubbon Park and one of the best places to visit in Bangalore in 1 day. Not only is it the state legislature of Karnataka, it is also the largest one in India. Vidhan Soudha in Karnataka is the epitome of grandeur. As a matter of fact, it costs 20 million rupees to maintain it’s splendour annually. Just opposite to this marvel lies the High Court of Karnataka, another beautiful building.

3. Breakfast at Little Green Cafe

It’s no doubt that there’s no shortage of awesome cafes in Bangalore. Because I had limited time and I wanted to visit one of the top instagrammble cafes in Bangalore, I walked toward Little Green Cafe. Because this cafe is a 15 minute walk from the Vidhan Soudha , you will save time when you have just one day in Bangalore.

From the minute I walked in, I fell in love with everything from the decor, the lights, the table tops, the cutlery to the extensive breakfast menu. I went for the Namaste Omelette , which was prepared in the Indian style using tomato, chillies and onions. It came with large toasts, a crunchy salad and grilled tomato. Everything on the plate was hearty and delicious. I honestly wish I could’ve come back here for lunch. In any case, there’s always a next time.

4. Bangalore Palace

Next stop is another iconic sight in Bangalore which can't be skipped from the places to visit in Bangalore in one day - the Bangalore Palace . Now, I felt the camera fees for the palace were a little steep. I bought a ticket for myself and paid a fee for just my DSLR camera, not my phone camera, which brought my total upto almost 1000 rupees.

Coming to the palace itself, the Bangalore Palace grounds were well-kept and gave away a great view of the palace. The tickets purchased can be used to access the grounds, the inside of the palace as well as a Bangalore Palace audio guide . The guides were insightful and gave away details about the palace, it’s residents and guests. Be sure to keep your ticket safe until the end of the visit since the staff does random checks at various points in the palace.

5. Tipu Sultan's Palace

After lunch, head to Tipu Sultan Palace which used to be the summer residence of Tipu Sultan , the ruler of the Kingdom Mysore during the 1700s. The rooms in the ground floor of the palace contain relics and pictures depicting Tipu Sultan and his reign. While the palace isn’t much and can be covered within 10-15 minutes, it’s just one of those Bangalore attractions which can’t be skipped and so I have included it in my 1-day Bangalore itinerary.

6. Lalbagh Botanical Garden

A visit to Bangalore will be incomplete if you haven’t visited one of the many Bangalore gardens. After all, Bangalore is known as Garden City for good reason. Take a leisurely evening stroll in one of the most popular gardens in Bangalore - Lalbagh garden. Make sure you visit the beautiful glass house which hosts flower shows twice a year. Not just that, there’s also a lake which you just can’t miss!

7. Indiranagar

Now that you’ve covered the most important sights in Bangalore, it’s time to let down your hair and experience the Bangalore nightlife. Indiranagar is undoubtedly the most happening place in Bangalore . It’s flooded with all the biggest stores, some of the best cafes in Bangalore and of course, great pubs. So pick your poison and have a gala in this fantastic area because Indiranagar is the best place to end your one day in Bangalore.

8. Dinner at Truffles

No trip to Bangalore will be complete without paying a visit to what is one of the best cafes in Bangalore. Truffles, located in Indiranagar, as mentioned earlier, is famous for its burgers and cold coffees . I had the cheese burger and asked for a brownie points cold coffee to go with it. The coffee came with a whole brownie, pulled apart into pieces and a giant scoop of vanilla ice-cream, topped with some chocolate sauce. That one coffee was way too delicious and way too much for one person. The burger had fantastic flavour and the potato chips were yum. Without a doubt, it’s one of the must visit places in Bangalore.

2. Kodaikanal

If you take the overnight sleeper bus from Bangalore late in the evening, then you will find yourself in beautiful Kodaikanal early in the morning. Known as the 'Princess of Hill Stations', the town is nestled in the western ghats of India.

Apart from a lake, many churches and food joints, there are many things to do in Kodaikanal in 2 days , making it the perfect day trip from Bangalore.

Anywone living in or visiting India, especiall the Southern half of India, is well aware of this place. Gokarna is a small temple and beach town on the western coast of India, very close to Goa.

Apart from  Hindu temples, there are many beaches in Gokarna. In fact, a Gokarna 5 beach trek is one of the best things to do here. And just like Kodaikanal, Gokarna is also an overnight journey from Bangalore.

4. Pondicherry

No visit to Southern India would be complete if one did not visit Pondicherry - a former French colony that still retains the architecture and food culture of its colonisers.

You will find many overnight buses to Pondicherry from Bangalore and arrive there early in the am. I followed this itinerary exactly – except Indiranagar. I had a nice day. If I was doing again I’d skip the Sultans place. Long drive (only cause traffic is ridiculous) – not really worth it! Enjoyed the Palace and botanical gardens and dinner at Truffles. Thanks!

A walk through the heritage park of Bangalore watching the colourful birds and breathing the pleasant air at 7'o Clock in the Morning is one of the best ways to start your wonderful one-day sightseeing in Bangalore. Located very next to the Divine Kote Venkataramanaswamy temple, this Historic monument supported by classical Teak wooden pillars stands as an Indo-Saracenic architectural genius in the heart of the city of Bangalore. A visit to this Royal Palace and also the ruins of the fort nearby in the sunset is something you shouldn’t miss while taking a day trip in Bangalore.

A lovely boat ride in the Tranquil waters of the ‘Ulsoor lake‘ giving respite from the blazing heat of the afternoon sun is sure to give you a delightful experience. Located in the centre of the city, it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the city of Bangalore. Near the lake is also a famous Gurudwara, one of the largest Sikh shrines in India. The lake is filled with small islands and spreads across 120 acres. This historic temple in the city dates back to the 15th Century and was built by the Vijayanagara Empire rulers. In the same yard, there is also a ‘Dodda Ganapathi temple’ which houses an 18 feet high monolithic Ganesha statue which is also called as ‘Satya Ganapathi’ meaning God of Truth.

7. Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore

The house of Karnataka’s State legislative assembly, “The Vidhana Soudha” and the centre of Justice of the city, “The Attara Kacheri ” are two monumental buildings standing right in the heart of the City. The Neo Dravidian style Vidhana Soudha constructed using only pure Granite, and Porphyry is an architectural genius of Sri Kengal Hanumantaiah, the second Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka. This magnificent building houses a central dome sixty feet in diameter supported by eight huge pillars and is breathtakingly amazing when it is fully illuminated.

8. HAL Aerospace Museum, Bangalore

The gleaming fighter jets flying flawlessly under the blue skies of the city gives us spine chilling goosebumps seeing it roar past the horizon. This museum in Bangalore has some of the most indigenous aircraft models designed by Hindustan Aeronauticals Limited (HAL) such as the Marut and Kiran and also a Vintage Canberra Bomber. There are also mock dock-fighting simulator machines operating at a very low cost. A wonderful flying experience of flying can be had in one of the State of the Art modern Flight Simulators which provides a panoramic view of the landings and takeoffs at the Bangalore Airport.

A ‘Natural Wonder ‘ and a place with amazing charm, this spot is one of the lesser known places for one-day sightseeing in Bangalore. This is a single ‘Big Banyan tree’ which is over 400 years over and spread across an area of around 3 acres. With a crown diameter of more than 80 meters and more than one thousand aerial roots, this huge tree offers cool shade and wonderful sight of greenery all around. The scenic beauty of this place is enriched by the ‘Savandurga Hills’ and the ‘Manchenebele Backwaters’ which are very close by to the tree.

Nandi Temple:   This temple is a dedication to Nandi - a sacred bull who is the gatekeeper and vehicle Lord Shiva. Built during the reign of Vijayawada - Kempe Gowda ruler, this temple is one of the oldest in Bangalore and largest Nandi temple in the world. Cubbon Park: Cubbon Park in Bangalore is spread over 300 acres of land and is part of the green belt in the city with around 6000 trees. This park was laid down by Lord Cubbon after whom the place is named. The Park apart from having a rich flora and fauna also has many other attractions including India's second-largest aquarium. ISKCON Temple: Known as Shri Radhe Krishna temple, it is a shrine of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. 1) Hogenakkal Waterfalls – The cascading wonder

Hogenakkal falls is a waterfall on the river Kaveri. It lies on the border between the Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu and Chamrajnagar district of Karnataka. This waterfall is about 130 km from the Garden city and is an ideal place for a one day trip near Bangalore. It is sometimes acknowledged as the Niagara Falls of India. Hogenakkal gets its name from the Kannada meaning ‘Smoky Rocks’ as the river that falls on the rock with force looks like smoke emanating from the rocks. The bathing areas and boat rides make it a sought after tourist attraction. Coracle rides are permitted during the dry season when the gushing water from the falls don’t disturb the passage of coracles. Fish that are freshly caught near the gorge can be deliciously cooked in the stalls on the left shore. 

The best time to visit Hogenakkal is soon after monsoon when the falls are in full form. However some people prefer to visit the place during off season when the crowd is scant.

2) Yelagiri – Of orchards, rose-gardens and green valleys

Yelagiri is a hill station surrounded by orchards, rose-gardens and green valleys. The hill station, which is 156 km from Bangalore, lies in the Tirupattur district of Tamil Nadu. This quaint hill station, which is still on the path of development, is known for adventure sports like paragliding and rock climbing. Yelagiri, which is at a height of 1410.6 metres above sea level is also a trekkers’ paradise. Swamimalai Hill, which is the highest point in Yelagiri, is a destination for trekkers and offers beautiful views.

The hill station has several trekking trails through thick forests. Javadi Hills and Palamathi Hills also serve as good trekking options. The best time to visit Yelagiri is from November to February, though the hill station boasts of a favourable climate for tourists throughout the year.

3 ) Chota Ladakh – The Bikers’ Paradise

Chota Ladakh, also referred to as Dodda Ayur is a serene spot, which lies about 60 km from Bangalore. It is a small quarry, which is filled with rainwater and surrounded by rocks. The place gets its name from its somewhat resemblance to Ladakh. Bikers highly frequent it, as it is one of their favourite spots. Camping is a preferred activity in this place. Owing to its proximity to Bangalore, tourists consider the place to be a breakfast getaway. However, it is advisable to go there in the early mornings or evenings to escape the scorching sun. 

4) Kotilingeshwara Temple – A perfect getaway for spiritual vibes

Koti in Kannada means a crore and hence Kotilingeshwara means one crore Shivalingas. This temple boasts of the tallest Shivalinga in the world, along with 90+ lakhs of other Shivalingas of various sizes. A towering Shivalinga of 108 ft tall is surrounded by smaller lingas. In front of the huge Shivalinga is a gigantic Nandi. This temple is located in the Kammasanadra, a small village in Kolar District of Karnataka. There are shrines for other deities as well. The Kotilingeshwara temple is open from 6 AM to 9 PM. The distance between Kotilingeshwara temple and Bangalore is about 100 km and makes way for a perfect one day trip near Bangalore.

5) Dodda Alada Mara – A perfect picnic spot

Dodda Alada Mara on the Bangalore Mysore road is a 400-year-old Banyan tree and spreads across more than 3 acres of land in the village of Kethohalli. It lies about 30 km from Bangalore. The tree is the second largest in the country and the largest in Karnataka. It is a perfect getaway for a picnic with family and friends amidst the limbs of the Big Banyan tree. The seating arrangements around it pave the way to simply relax. A small temple under the tree also attracts people to worship. Tourists also cycle their way around the tree to the Manchandela Dam near the Dodda Alada Mara. The tree is home to many monkeys and tourists are cautioned to take care of their things. 

6) Akkayamma Betta – Of Temples, Sunrise and Sunsets

Akkayamma Betta is a small hillock that lies about 30 km from Bangalore. Vehicles can reach almost to the top of the hill and tourists can cover the rest of the distance by a ten-minute walk. Tourists also opt to walk up the steps from the base of the hill. There are five temples on the top of Akkayamma Betta, of which one is a cave temple. The temples are open on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Tourists can also visit the Doddajala Lake nearby and Chikkajala fort. The Chikkajala fort is about 300 years old and also hosts a Hanuman temple in it. Beautiful orange flowers cover the expanse of the grasslands there during monsoon. Tourists can enjoy the sunrise and sunset from this hillock. Akkayamma Betta makes way for an ideal one day trip near Bangalore.

7) Ambur – Of Spicy Biryani and Leather

Ambur is a town in the Tirupattur district of Tamil Nadu, known for its leather industry. Ambur spicy Biryani and Makkhenpeda are very popular amongst tourists. It lies about 161 km from Bangalore. Tourists visit this town to relish the lip smacking Biryani and shop for leather goods. Ambur Shoe Lounge is a must visit for shopaholics, where people can buy leather goods like handbags, clutches, purses, slings, backpacks and laptop bags. The Karuppuleeswarar Temple in Gudiyatham, which is a 1000 year old temple around 30 km from Ambur is also worth visiting.

8) Shivanasamudra Falls – The beauty of the twin waterfall

The twin waterfalls, the Bharachukki fall and the Gaganachukki fall together form the Shivanasamudra falls in the Mandya district of Karnataka. The Shivanasamudra falls on the Kaveri river is a perennial and spectacular waterfall. It is in its best form during the monsoon season. The waterfall lies about 137 km from Bangalore and makes for an interesting one day trip. The Bharachukki falls has a wider flow of water than the Gaganachukki falls and hence popular amongst tourists.

Tourists can view the beauty of the Gaganachukki waterfalls from the Shivanasamudra watch tower. Though the twin falls lie next to each other, the viewpoints are about 15 to 20 minutes drive. Swimming is dangerous and tourists are not allowed near the water. The Shivanasamudra falls serves as a perfect picnic spot and an excellent one day trip near Bangalore. The best time to visit the Shivanasamudra falls is from June to September when there is a good flow of water.

9) Talakad – The historical site of temples

Talakad is a place of temples. It is a must visit place for those who are interested in history and archaeology. It is a town, which got submerged in sand owing to the curse of a queen. The few temples that were excavated from the sand are a part of over 30 temples that were submerged in the sand. The Pathaleshwara temple, Vaidyanatheshwara temple, Arkeshwara temple, Maruleshwara temple, Keerthi Narayan temple, Thirumakudal Narsipur temple, Mallikarjuna temple and Somanathapura are some of the interesting temples with fascinating archaeology. Talakadu today is known for horticulture and wine making.

Fine wine, artisan cheese and diverse culinary experiences form the face of the present day Talakadu. Talakadu lies about 135 km from Bangalore.

10) Sula Vineyard (Domaine Sula) – Wine and More

Sula Vineyards rebranded as Domaine Sula is located in Channapatna, about 60 km from Bangalore. One Day In Bangalore: The Perfect Itinerary With Lots Of Options!

Bangalore was the first place that I ever travelled to in my life. I was just 13 years old then. I still remember how excited I was. Now so many years later, I have actually spent 6 years in the city and while it isn’t perfect, there are a couple of things to do in Bangalore in one day that should really be on your list.

In fact, a couple of years ago Bangalore was once known as the garden city. Rapid urbanization has changed the way the city looks today. There are still a couple of gardens around, but nothing compared to the green paradise I remember it to be.

My parents and grandmother often talk about the time when people would visit Bangalore to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Today, the reverse takes place. People from Bangalore want to head out of the city to get a bit of peace.

That does not mean however that the city isn’t interesting. There is a lot to explore and see. Today, the city is considered to be an IT hub and is popular for its breweries and clubbing. There is lot to see in terms of culture, religious monuments and plenty of the famous south Indian food that you should taste.

With that in mind, I decided to write a post about how to spend one day in Bangalore. Before I start talking about the itinerary, let’s talk a little about how to reach the city, where to stay and a little bit about the transport in the city.

How to reach bangalore.

Bangalore is a metropolitan city and it has its own airport which caters to both domestic and international flights. It is also where people head out to when they want to explore other parts of Karnataka. The airports make it really accessible or well sort off… That’s because the traffic in the city is horrible.

Other ways to reach Bangalore are via bus and train. Majestic is the largest bus stop in the city and most of the interstate buses arrive and leave from here.

Bangalore also is one of the stops on many road trips, since it is really central. You can see why people would want to cover as much ground as possible when passing through the city.

Where To Stay In Bangalore

You would be surprised to know just how big Bangalore is. If you have just one day in Bangalore, you probably want to stay as close to most of the sites as you can. I would suggest staying in and around M.G. road or Brigade road. You will find that it reduces your travel time and you will be forever grateful because the gridlock traffic can take the fun out of the exploring the city.

Transport In Bangalore

One thing that I really do not like about the city is the traffic. I would say avoid rush hour traffic but it is really hard to define when rush hour really is. Luckily staying in the center of the city should help reduce the time to destination.

So how can you get around the city? There are a number of different bus routes that you can use. Uber is another popular option. The center of the city also has a lot of autos that can certainly make the transit easier. So, if you just have one day in Bangalore, know that you have options to start move about.

Spending One Day In Bangalore

Now that you have a feel for the city, let us start talking about how an ideal day in Bangalore would be spent. I know that there are a lot of things to do in the city, but you want to get a taste of the culture, the food, the architecture and everything else that the city has to offer.

Start Your Day With A South Indian Breakfast

One of the things that I love about Bangalore is the food. There are so many different places in the city that you can head to catch a bite to eat. I highly recommend eating a south Indian breakfast. There are so many different items to try and it would be wrong of me to tell you to just try one item when there are so many good ones out there.

Woody’s at commercial street is one of the old restaurants that is famous. One thing that I have learned however is that all local restaurants serving south Indian food are invariably amazing!

Head To KR Flower Market

Exploring K.R. market definitely should be on your list!

A lot of people fall in love with the K.R. Flower market. I have visited it in the afternoon hours, but I am given to believe that the best time to visit it is in the wee hours of the morning. Well… By wee hours I mean around 6 am.

So why is K.R. flower market so attractive? Well, you get to see the flowers of course. The whole area is filled with vendors stringing them together to form garlands. Just like most things in India, the flower market is really colourful and you will find that there is very little place to move around.

Once you are done with the flower market, pause a bit to wander around the other parts of the market. K.R. market is a bustling place and is a classic Indian market if you haven’t explored one before.

The Bangalore Fort

I definitely would suggest visiting this gorgeous fort in the city centre.

I believe that you definitely should visit Bangalore fort and it makes the most sense to do it immediately after visiting K.R. market since it is very close to it. The fort isn’t much to look at from the outside but that doesn’t mean you should keep it off your itinerary. The thick walls of the fort can only be appreciated once you step inside it. An enclosed garden was something that I never expected to see.

Tipu Sultan’s Palace

Tipu Sultan’s palace should be your next stop. It is a short distance away from K.R. market and the Bangalore fort. The palace is a popular tourist spot and while it isn’t really very big, you definitely should not skip it. Unlike the larger Bangalore palace, the ticket to the Tipu Sultan’s palace is much cheaper (15/- for Indians and 200/- for foreigners).

The palace is made of wood. It is beautiful and you will definitely enjoy taking a look at the intricate paintings on the walls. Some spots may have faded but you can definitely see the splendor that the palace must have had in the days of yore.

Lalbagh Botanical Gardens

The towering trees at Lal Bagh is a perfect quiet place to stop at during your one day in Bangalore.

Lalbagh is one of the largest forested areas in the city. It is impressive and a lot of the locals love to walk around here but it isn’t really crowded since it covers a large area of land. If you have just one day in Bangalore and you get stuck in traffic, you may want to pull this off your list. If you do have time, then head to Lal Bagh once you are done with Tipu Sultan’s palace. You could even buy some

There are so many places to eat in Bangalore that it is hard to narrow it down. People in the city use the Zomato app to locate restaurants and read reviews about each place. I would suggest heading to a restaurant that serves south Indian cuisine and trying out what is called a meal. It comes on a steel plate (known as a thali) and is served with an assortment of dishes and Indian bread.

Usually it is unlimited and cheap! The MTR outlets are pretty popular. There is one outlet next to Lalbagh and there is one next to the Bangalore Palace which is the next stop on our one day in Bangalore itinerary.

Bangalore Palace

One of the places that you have to visit during your one day in Bangalore should be the famous Bangalore palace. It belongs to the Wadeyar family and is a rather magnificent building that has been opened for the public. I would really suggest heading here after lunch because it would mean that you would be walking in an area that was covered.

Of late Bangalore has begun to have rather unpredictable weather. On the days that it is hot, you will find that the heat can really give you a sun stroke. Staying out of the afternoon heat and keeping rehydrated is probably the smartest thing that you can do during your day in Bangalore.

Getting back to the topic, the Bangalore palace is rather interesting. From tea wood floors to the mounted head of an elephant, the palace has it all. It even has a courtyard which is decorated with tiles that were a gift from the King of Spain. You can even get an audio guide that will tell you about each part of the palace and about the history of various items in building.

Iskcon Temple

The next stop on your one day in Bangalore should be the Iskcon temple. Somehow, visiting the Iskcon temple had never made it to the top of our list till lately when we realized just how close to Bangalore palace it is. The temple is huge and has its own dedicated parking area which was a relief for us since we were driving with a baby.

While the temple does have similar architecture when compared to the famous south Indian temples one big glaring difference is that the temple is painted white. I have noticed that most of the south Indian temples are rather colourful.

At the end of the tour of the temple, you can buy prasad (or food offered to the Gods). We chose to buy some of the sweets which were insanely delicious. Just know that the sweets are often made using Ghee which isn’t vegan.

Loads of malls have cropped up around the city. Orion mall is a huge shopping complex that lies very close to the Iskcon temple and you should have no trouble getting to it. It is a great place if you are looking for all the brands in one spot.

You can also catch a bite to eat in one of the numerous restaurants in the complex or even head out to try out a buffet at one of the restaurants in the Sheraton next door.

Other Attractions In Bangalore

As I mentioned before, getting around the city is probably the most time-consuming thing that you are going to face especially if you have just one day in Bangalore. This largely because of traffic and not because of the distance from spot to spot.

Most people measure distance by the time it takes from point A to point B, before heading out. Google maps is usually pretty accurate. There are a couple of things that you can swap around with the locations that I have given you. Let’s take a look at those shall we?

Shopping In The City

As I mentioned before, Bangalore has a lot of places that you can head out to if you love shopping. There are malls in all corners of the city if that floats your boat.

Popular ones are Phoenix Marketcity, Orion mall and the various Forum malls. UB city is a luxury mall that is located in the centre of Bangalore and has everything from shopping to spas and dining.

If you would love to visit a shopping district and not wander through a mall, then head to Brigade road, M.G. road and commercial street. You will find that there is a mixture of brands and local artisans sitting here. It is a fun place to wander if the weather is good.

Be forewarned that the crowds can get to your after a while and you have to factor in traffic! So if you have just one day in Bangalore plan with that time factor in mind!

Cubbon Park

Cubbon park is another gorgeous park in the city that deserves mention. It’s large trees and shaded area attracts people who live nearby. Quite frankly, if it wasn’t for the traffic, I definitely would visit Cubbon park more often. It may not have a lake like Lal Bagh but it is another one of the green lungs that the congested city depends on.

St Mary’s Basilica

St. Mary’s Basilica is the oldest church in the city and would definitely make a fine addition to your one day in Bangalore. The Basilica is in the Commercial street/M.G. road area.

In fact, you could head there in the morning before breakfast at Woody’s should you choose to. It won’t take you long to explore and the façade of the church is really worth taking a look at.

Venkatappa Art Gallery

It has been ages since I visited the Venkatappa Art Gallery. It is located close to Cubbon park. So you may want to add this to your list if you are in the area. If memory serves me right, you will find that the entry fees are not too expensive. It houses as many as 600 noteworthy pieces of art!

This is a place for people who are history buffs and/or art lovers. Definitely recommended for a pit stop on your one day in Bangalore itinerary.

Great Day Trips From Bangalore

If this isn’t your first visit and you have already seen the most iconic tourist spots, don’t give up hope. We’ve curated a list of great day trips that can give you a bit of inspiration on how to spend one day in Bangalore.

As we mentioned before, the city is pretty central when you see its location in the state. Traffic and road conditions can dissuade you but there are a couple of great places to spend one day in Bangalore, albeit on the outskirts.

Bannerghatta National Park

Bannerghatta National park is a place where you can spend one day in Bangalore away from the main city.

Bannerghatta National park is located just 35 kilometers away from the city. It is another one of the city’s attractions that I have not visited in a very long time. The park houses a number of enclosures where animals are housed. The experience involves tourists driving into the enclosure in a jeep or in a bus. It all depends on how much you want to pay.

The jeep is definitely more costly but there are less people and the experience is fun. What I liked about it was that the humans are in an enclosed space and not the animals. Well… At least they are not in a very small enclosure.

Please note that I have been to this park a very very long time ago. I have heard that things have changed and that the animals aren’t very well treated. So do your research before you visit.

In search of a bit adrenaline and fun? Wonderla is another great place to spend one day in Bangalore if you have finished the other touristic stuff. Wonderla is an amusement park that sits around 30 kilometers away from the centre of the city. It has loads of rides that include and exclude water.

Like most places close to the city, Wonderla too can get packed during weekends and holidays. It doesn’t mean that it is any less fun but you do have to wait in longer queues which can get frustrating. My advice would be to visit it on a weekday when you can get the maximum out of the place.

Nandi Hills

One of the places to visit near Bangalore is Nandi hills.

Located around 60 kilometers away from the center of the Bangalore, you will find that Nandi hills is one of the most loved getaways from the busy city live. Weekends are usually when the area is really crowded. I would suggest heading there on a weekday when you have the place all to yourself. What do you see there? I can't wait for South Indian breakfast! Also, the flower market looks beautiful. Would it be appropriate if I bought a flowered necklace to wear, or are they only for certain local celebrations or events? That is a bit sad to read that it used to be the garden city, hopefully they incorporate more green urban design in the future.

You are going to love the South Indian breakfast! I don't think people will say much though you probably will get an odd look or two. The garlands are usually used for idols and religious ornaments. I also think that they are used in marriage ceremonies. Honestly, you kinda flummoxed me a bit ;) I've never thought of wearing one.

The trail starts from the Papagni Mutt that is located at the foothills of Skandagiri. You can complete the entire trek in 5 hours including 2 hours in ascend, 2 hours in descend and 1 hour at the peak.

How to reach – Take the bus from Bangalore that will drop you at Chikballapur. From there either you can take an auto to reach the base in 15 minutes or you can also walk down to the foothills of Skandagiri which will take around 1 hour.

• Trek Distance – 3 KM
• Best time to visit – Any time of the year. (Early morning is the best time of the day to get enjoy the beautiful sunrise. You can start your trip around 3 AM with a torch. )
• Places to eat – Chikballapur is the place where you can get good restaurants at a good price. Papagni Mutt is the last place where you can fill your water bottle. But it is advisable to carry packed food and water while going for the trek.

• Places to visit near Skandagiri – Nandi hills, Muddenahalli and Bhoga Nandesshwara temple.

3. Nandi Hills – 61 KM

Nandi Hills is also known as the Nandi Durga. It is a perfect one-day trip from Bangalore. This place is famous for its awe-inspiring sunrise and sunset. It is home to various historical forts, temples and shrines. There is a garden for the families and kids to relax and play. You can also do the trek to reach the top of the Nandi Hills. The trek is about 1.5 KM and the Silver oak farm is the base point of the trek. It will take around 1 and a half hours to complete the trek.

How to reach – Take a state bus of KSRTC from Bangalore to Nandi Hills. There are regular buses from the Bangalore bus stand to Nandi Hills. If you want then you can also drive your own vehicle as well.

• Timings – 6 AM to 10 PM
• Entry and Parking fees – 10 INR entry fees, 15 INR for 2 wheelers and 60 INR for 4 wheelers.
• Best time to visit – Any time of year. For sunrise, try to come early in the morning (around 5 PM) to skip the crowd. But the gate will open at 6 Am so you have to wait at the entry point. Visit this place on weekdays because during weekends this place goes crowded. And sunset is the best time of the day to visit this place.
• Places to eat – There are lots of eateries and stalls at the peak where you can have snacks and refreshments. For more varieties, you can also find decent restaurants at the bottom of the hills.
• Places to stay – KSTDC – Mayura Pine top is the only hotel at the top of Nandi Hills. Booking can be done through the official website of KSTDC. You can reach before 5 PM for an overnight stay. You can find lots of hotels near the Nandi Hills.  

4. Makalidurga – 57 KM

Malkalidugra is another amazing trekking spot near Bangalore. Away from the traffic and noise of the city, this place will amaze you with its stillness. Makalidurga fort is the main highlight of this place. After reaching the top you will get to see the ruins of this fort and beautiful views of the lake & nearby villages. Don’t forget to witness the train meandering through the hill. The trek is easy to moderate and can be completed in around 2 hours even if you’re a beginner. You can either start your trek from the Makalidurga railway station or you can reach the base point by your vehicle by crossing the railway line. The whole trail is marked by the arrow so don’t worry about the direction.

It is advisable to bring water bottles and packed food as there is no facility for water on the route. And before planning make sure you made a booking at Karntaka Eco Tourism .

How to reach – You can easily reach the Makalidurga from Bangalore via SH 9. It will take around 2 hours to reach there. The state bus is the most convenient way to reach Makalidurga from Bangalore.

• Food – Bring your own food either from your home or restaurants on the highways.
• Main Highlights – Makalidurga Fort, Makalidurga temple and View of Gundamagere Lake which looks like the shape of South America.

5. Savandurga Hills – The Largest Monoliths in Asia (47 KM)

Savandurga hill is an excellent trek near Bangalore. The trek is full of adventure, steep hills, huge rocks, breathtaking views and lots of excitement. It is an easy to moderate trek that can be completed in around 40 to 60 minutes. Wear good grip shoes as the trail is full of rocks and sometimes can be slippery especially in monsoon. To avoid heat and crowd, try to start the trek early in the morning (around 5 Am). You’ll get local vendors on the peak selling refreshments and snacks. So don’t overweight your backpack. But do carry good amount of water to keep hydrating yourself on the trek.

There are 2 temples at the base – Savandi Veerabhdraswamy temple and Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple. And the trek to the summit starts from behind the Lakshmi temple in the southeast direction. The whole trekking path is clearly marked by the forest department.

How to reach – Savandurga is located in the Magadi town and it is easily accessible by road from Bangalore. If you want to drive your own vehicle then just follow up the navigation in Google maps. But don’t forget to stop at Dodda Aladamara – A Big Banayan tree that is around 400 years old. If you’re traveling here by public transport then take a bus to Magadi then take shared auto that charges you around 15 INR to Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple.

• Trek length – 3 to 4 KM
• Best time to visit – September to March
• Food – There are no restaurants at the base of the trek so it’s good to bring your packed food to have meals during the trek. Also, bring a good amount of water. You can refill also water bottle at the base of the trek but the water here is non-purified underground.
• Major Highlights – Trekking and witnessing the largest monoliths in Asia.

6. Bannerghatta National Park – 21 KM

Bannerghatta National Park is a good place to spend an amazing time with family and friends near Bangalore. Spread over an area of 260 sq Km, this national park is home to lions, tigers, wild cats, elephants, leopards, wild boars, cobras and butterflies. There is also a zoo, snake and butterfly park. The best thing about this park is there are well-defined zones for different animals.

• Timings – 9:30 AM to 5 PM, closed on Tuesday
• Safari timings – 10 AM to 4:30 PM
• Entry Fees for Indians – 80 INR for Adults, 40 INR for kids and 50 INR for senior citizens.

7. Anthargange Hills – 68 KM

Antharganga means the Ganges from deep in Kannada, named after the spring that originated from the hill and water flow through the statue of a bull. It is a small yet wonderful place near Bangalore with an amazing mix of religious significance and adventurous trekking trails & caves. If you’re looking to escape from the daily routine life then it is a great place to visit. The religious peaceful vibes of the temple and adventurous natural trekking trails and caves are enough to attract any adventure lover.

It is a great place near Bangalore for night trekking and camping. The 3 KM trek is full of rocky, boulders and plain land that demands lots of stamina and energy but all of this is worth it. It can be covered in around 1 and half hours. There are some temples dedicated to Lord Shiva at the base point of the trek.

• Trek Length – 3 KM
• Best time to visit – October to March
• Best way to reach – Take a bus from Bangalore to Kolar that will charge you around 50 INR per head and take around half an hour. From Kolar, take a shared auto to reach the base of Antharagange. You can also drive your own vehicle till Antharagange but have to park at the entrance. The road condition is good with amazing scenic views.
• Food – If you want to spend time then bring your own packed food. There are some roadside restaurants for lunch but you have to come down for that so it’s good to carry food and water.
• Major highlights – Antharagange caves at the peak, beautiful sunrise & sunset, amazing views and night camp inside the caves.

8. Manchanabele Dam – 40 KM

Built across the Arkavathi River, the Machanabele dam is built for irrigation purposes of Magadi town. This water reservoir is surrounded by the hills from the three sides and looks scenic from the distance. It is a perfect off-beat place to spend a good day near Bangalore. There is no crowd, no shops, no traffic, no restaurants and no entry ticket, just you, a dam and peaceful vibes of nature. It is a good place for a day outing with friends and family.

How to reach – Located just 40 KM from Bangalore, Manchanabele dam is easily accessible via road. You can easily get a bus from K.R market to Manchanabele dam. You can also drive your own vehicle by following this link .

• Food – There are no shops and restaurants. So its good to bring enough food and water to spend some time around the dam.
• Major highlights – Do Nothing, just enjoy the amazing views and fresh air. And don’t forget to visit 400-year-old Big Banyan Tree that is just 10 KM from the dam.

9. Chunchi falls – 90 KM

Located 90 KM away from the Bangalore, Chunchi waterfalls is situated on the route to Mekedatu and Sangama. Kanakapura is the nearest town to the falls. Due to its proximity to Bangalore there you’ll find lots of tourists on holidays. The height of the falls is 50 feet and it emerges on the Arkavati river. The surrounding lush greenery and rocky formation make it a good picnic spot near Bangalore. You’re not allowed to do swimming in this region due to the presence of crocodiles.

How to reach – The fall is around 30 KM from the Kanakapura. The fall is located around 1 KM from the bus stop. There is no direct bus from Bangalore. You may need to change the few buses and hire an auto-rickshaw to reach the fall. You can drive your own vehicle. The route could be like this – Bangalore -> Kanakapura -> Turns towards Mekedatu -> Yeleguri Village. After parking the vehicle you need to take a short walk of 30 minutes to reach near the falls. The whole journey from Bangalore will take around 2 and half hours to reach the falls.

• Location – 30 KM from Kanakapura, Bangalore.
• Best time to visit – Monsoon season is the ideal time to visit Chunchi falls.
• Places to eat – You won’t find any decent shops or restaurants near the falls. There are you can spot some locals who sell some refreshments and snack items. So it’s good to bring packed food and water. There are some good restaurants on Kanakapura road, where you enjoy decent food.
• Things to do – Hiking, photography and picnic.  

10. Shivanasamudra Waterfalls – 133 KM

Shivanasamudra falls is a beautiful waterfall on the Kaveri River that falls from a height of 98 meters. The surrounding thick vegetation and proximity to the main town make it a perfect place for one day trip to Bangalore. It is a collection of 2 waterfalls – Gaganachukki and Bharachukki. Despite being part of the same river, both of them are apart from 15 KM each other. There are well-maintained viewpoints and stairs made by KSTDC to enjoy the beauty of the falls.

How to reach – It is located a 2-hour drive from Bangalore on the Bangalore Mysore highway till Mandya then you have to turn into Malavalli town which takes around 1 and half hours. There are daily buses from Bangalore to Malavalli bus stop. From there you can either hire an auto-rickshaw or take a bus to reach the base of the fall. The road condition is pretty good with amazing views and fresh wind.

• Location – Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka
• Timings – 8 AM to 5 PM all days.
• Entry Fees – 20 INR at the Bhara Chukki falls and 10 INR to walk down the stairway to the base of the falls.
• Best time to visit – Post monsoon August to February
• Places to eat – Don’t worry about food because there is a number of shops and food stalls where you can have decent food at an affordable price.
• Places to stay – KSTDC runs hotels, jungle lodges and resorts near the fall where you can enjoy the stay. Also, there are some hotels and cottages in Mandya city, 30 KM from the waterfalls.

11. Lepakshi – 123 KM

Lepakshi is a small village near Bangalore that is famous for its cultural activity and Veerabhadra Temple. The historical significance and architectural design of this temple attract thousands of tourists every year. According to the legends, when the demon Ravan abducted the Goddess Sita then bird Jataayu fought with Ravana and this is the place where he fell. Due to that, this place is named Lepakshi which means Rise Bird in Telugu.

How to reach – Lepakshi is located around 2 hours of distance from Bangalore. Try to leave early in the morning to avoid traffic and rush. The road is condition is very good and surrounded by the thick vegetation. Either you can drive your own car or take public transport to reach there. There are number of private and government buses run on this route.

Travellers may train their binoculars on the amazing Asian Paradise Flycatchers, Bulbuls, Blue Capped Rock Thrush, Tawny Eagles, Puff-Throated Babblers, etc., in the region, which also gives visitors peaceful surroundings, a rich history, and lovely views.

6. nandi hills – 61 kms.

Small hillocks near Bangalore are referred to as Nandi Hills or Nandidurga. It served as Tipu Sultan’s vacation destination. This hill town enjoys a lovely environment all year, making it one of the best day trips near   Bangalore.

The Cholas constructed the Yoganandeeshwara Temple, where Shiva resides on the hills. These hills are known for their unusual vegetation. There are more native species than Coffee Arabica. About 8 kilometres long and taking 4-5 hours to finish from the base is the Skandagiri trek. The track must be followed as it is designated to prevent any accidents. Timings:  The hill is open to trekkers till evening. Going to the hill after the evening is strictly prohibited.

8. Sangam and Mekedatu Rivers – 100 Kms

Some of the most popular destinations for a  one day trip from the Bangalore  area include Sangam and Mekedatu. Two rivers, the Arkavathi and the Kaveri, meet in Sangam. Mekedatu, one of Karnataka’s most stunning canyons, is about 4 kilometres from Sangam.

It is believed that a tiger once attempted to attack a goat. To save its life, the goat had to leap from one side of the precipice to the other. The goat finally made its decision and leapt down the canyon. After realising this, the tiger stopped pursuing him and left. Because of this occurrence, the area became known locally as Mekedatu, which means “Goat’s Leap.”

9. Chunchi Falls – 90 Kms

Chunchi Falls, one of the many beautiful waterfalls close to Bangalore, provides a day of complete relaxation away from the city. 10. Bheemeshwari Adventure and Nature Camp – 100 Kms

Homage to the magnificent Kaveri River may be found at the Bheemeshwari Adventure and Nature Camp. This camp is close enough for easy access yet far enough away to cut oneself off from the daily grind. It is a perfect combination of a lovely environment and wild adventure.

11. hogenakkal falls – 127 kms.

Due to the unusual configuration of the enormous carbonated rocks surrounding the waterfall, it is known as Hogenakkal, or “Smoky Rocks”. You will be fascinated by the sight of the River Kaveri dividing into several little streams and cascading from various heights ranging from 15 feet to 66 feet! How the water gushes down over enormous boulders at Hogenakkal Waterfall resembles the well-known Niagara Falls.

Water from the Hogenakkal waterfalls cascades through herb-filled woodlands. Locals claim that the waterfall has healing properties and that bathing there after a satisfying oil massage may positively affect one’s health. It’s also said that a dip in the waterfall pool cleanses one of the sins.

Coracle (basket-shaped boat) rides are among the most well-liked activities on the river during the dry season, when it is calm and safe. Another choice is to walk through luscious vegetation and a labyrinth of rocks to reach the falls. The hike is beginner-friendly and simple. Those who love the outdoors may stroll around the falls to enjoy the sights.

12. Talakad – 132 Kms

Talakad is a historical location with some fascinating mythology attached to it. Sand has buried the temples in this area. It is supposed that a queen named Alamelamma cursed the city. 

The five Lingams that are thought to depict Shiva’s five faces and comprise the Pancha Pathi are notable among Talakad’s temples. The temples in question are those of Pathaleshwara, Maruleshwara, Arkeshwara, Vaidyanatheeshwara, and Mallikarjuna. A celebration known as Panchalinga Darshana, which was most recently celebrated in 2006, is held once every 12 years as a homage to these five Shiva temples.

13. Mysore – 143 Kms

You may reach Kunti Betta by taking a short drive from Pandavapura to the temple at the base and then climbing some stairs.

The climb is difficult with steep hills, though some rocks need ropes for beginners. The Thonnur Lake is continually in view as you ascend Kunti Betta after initially going up and over a hilltop. Volcanic granite rock and boulders make up the landscape, with sporadic patches of moorland. You know you have reached the peak when you see the stone pillar. The Stone Pillar is the ideal vantage point since it offers stunning views of the nearby farms, hills, and Thonnur Lake. There are areas where a campfire may be started at night that are protected from strong gusts by rocks.

15. Hassan – 183 Kms

Hassan, which is dotted with temples and cloaked in mystery, is ideal for people who wish to learn about Karnataka’s past. Hassan’s historic buildings and monuments are significant in giving it a prestigious appearance. Among the top sights in this area are the Hoysala temples, Gorur Dam, and Shettihalli Church. At a distance of 5 km from Bangalore City Railway Station, Bull Temple also known as Basavanagudi Nandi Temple is situated on top of a hill at Basavanagudi. This Hindu temple is situated inside a park called Bugle Rock. The temple is dedicated to sacred bull Nandi, the vehicle of Lord Shiva. This is one of the oldest temples of Bangalore and also one of the top pilgrimages & tourist attractions in Bangalore city. The temple was built in 1537 by Kempegowda in Dravidian style. The temple is relatively small in size, but houses one of the largest monolithic Nandi statues in the world which measures 4.5 meter in height and 6 meter in length. The temple also houses the idols of God Surya and Chandra, on their chariots. A 17th century inscription at the base of the structure mentions about a stream called Vrishabhavathi that originated here. The tower over the shrine was constructed in early 20th century and is adorned with figures of gods and motifs. As per legend, a bull used .....

At a distance of 6 Kms from Bangalore City Railway Station, the Dodda Ganapathi Temple or Basavanagudi Ganesh Temple is located on the Bull Temple Road in Basavanagudi. Built in 1971, the temple has a monolithic statue of Lord Ganesha with 18ft in height and 16ft in width. It is one of the popular pilgrimage & tourist attraction in Bangalore. The deity in this temple is also known as Shakthi Ganapathi or Satya Ganapathi. The idol is believed to be growing on its right side. The most popular ceremony of the temple is the butter coating which apparently consumes about 100 kg of butter. This butter is broken up and distributed to the devotees once in every four years. This is a spectacular sight at the temple and a visit to the temple to witness this is recommended. Timings: 7 AM to 12.30 PM and 5.30 to 8.30 PM

3 Tipu Sulthan's Palace

At a distance of 3 km from Bangalore City Railway Station, Tipu Sultan's Palace or Tipu's Summer Palace is situated near the Tipu's Fort at Albert Victor Road. This palace stands as one of the notable Islamic buildings and an important landmark in the city of Bangalore. This was used as a summer retreat by the Sultan, who lovingly called it the Rash-e-Jannat meaning Envy of Haven. Hyder Ali started the construction of the palace within the walls of the Bangalore Fort and it was completed by Tipu Sultan in 1791. Used as a summer retreat, the structure is similar to the Daria Daulat palace of Srirangapatnam . After Tipu Sultan's death in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, the British Administration used the palace for its Secretariat before moving to Attara Kacheri in 1868. The Summer Palace is an example of Indo-Islamic architecture. The entire palace is built of teak wood, mortar, stone and plaster. It is laid on a stone plinth. .....

4 Visweswaraiah Industrial & Technological Museum

At a distance of 5 km from Bangalore City Railway Station, Visweswaraiah Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM) is located on Kasturba road in the surroundings of Cubbon Park. It was established as a tribute to Sir M Visweswaraiah, a great civil engineer. This is one of the best science museums in India and one of the best places to visit in Bangalore city, especially for children. The museum occupies an area of 4000 sq. m, housing various industrial products and engines, which were opened by Sri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1962. The first gallery set up at VITM on the theme Electricity was opened to the public in 1965. An airplane and a steam engine are displayed in its compound. VITM has 7 permanent exhibition galleries titled Engine Hall, Fun Science, Electro technic, Space - Emerging Technology in the Service of Mankind, Biotechnological Revolution, BEL Hall of Electronics and Children Science. 5 The Govt. Museum

At a distance of 4 Kms from Bangalore City Railway Station, The Karnataka Government Museum is located at the Kasturba Gandhi Road, quite near to the Cubbon Park. Established in 1886, it is one of the oldest museums in India. It is also known as State Archeological Museum. With great collection of artifacts, it's one of the ideal places to visit in Bangalore for history & art lovers. There are 18 galleries showcasing a rich collection of coins, art and relics from the Mohenjodaro, Halebid and Vijayanagara. It also houses the relics dating back to 5000 years. The painting gallery includes beautiful and rare paintings in Mysore and Tanjore style and also paintings from Rajasthani and Pahari schools. The museum also preserves antiques that date back to the civilization of Harappa and Mohenjodaro. 6 Lalbagh Botanical Gardens

At a distance of 6 km from Bangalore City Railway Station, Lalbagh Botanical Garden is situated near the Lalbagh fort road. It is one of the best gardens in India and one of the best places to visit in Bangalore city. The ruler of Mysore, Hyder Ali commissioned the development of the garden in 1760. Initially designed in Mughal style, this garden was further developed by Hyder Ali's son Tipu Sultan. Sprawling over an area of 240 acres, there are more than 1,800 species of flora, including plants, shrubs and trees, most of them from outside India. The garden attained status of a Government Botanical Garden in 1856. The garden surrounds one of the towers erected by Kempe Gowda. The park has some rare species of plants brought from Persia, Afghanistan and France. One Day in Bengaluru!

Bengaluru (or Bangalore) - The capital of the southern state Karnataka, having had a hell lot of public parks and nice green cover, has been eminent as the “Garden city of India”. However, In recent years the city earned a different nickname, “The Silicon City of India”, but on a cost of becoming a concrete jungle.

I was on a trip to the state but had an extra day before I catch my flight back to pune, So I decided to roam around the city. Although the city has a lot to offer, I would agree if people tend to refrain from traveling due to bad traffic conditions, especially on weekdays. But if you do have one day, I would like to help you get the most of Bengaluru with minimum traffic mishaps.

Here is the map of places you can visit in a day (even a weekday), avoiding traffic.

By the end of the trip, you would probably be thankful to BMRCL for the joyful metro rides.

As you can see, most places are in vicinity to metro routes, thus avoids traffic. The maximum distance you’ll have to cover by road would be for HAL Museum, i.e. 6 kms from Swami Vivekananda Metro Station.

City Tips :

• Don’t be worried about language barrier here as most people can understand Hindi and English very well.

• Since you’ll be travelling in Metro for most parts, I’ll suggest you buy a smart card instead of token tickets. Apart from the 15% discounted fares, It’ll help you save time as you won’t have to stand in queue, plus you have the flexibility to exit at any station.

• The smart card comes with a 5 year validity, so can also help you in your future visits to the city. Although the recharged amount is valid for a year only.

• Got Baggage? Well, that’s no trouble! If you’ll be travelling by train, you can put your baggage at some store inside Orion mall, which is near to Yeshwantpur Junction.

• In case travelling by flight, you have Central mall at MG Road as the alternate. Of-course, you can use other facilities like Railway cloak room, but that’ll involve time and money.

Located in the heart of city, built around a tower built by Kempegowda, the founder of Bengaluru, Lalbagh is a prime tourist attraction. Spread over around 250 acres, having variety of flora and fauna, trees more than 100 years old, it is a delight for photographers and nature lovers. The most fascinating part being the garden’s internal irrigation system. The garden also features an aquarium, a lake, different themed gardens and is home to the famous Glass house, similar to London’s crystal palace, which host two annual flower shows. The metro station is situated near the west gate, which opens up to the lake. You can take e-vehicle to explore the main sections of the garden.

2. Breakfast at Vidyarthi Bhavan, KR Market or MTR, Lalbagh Rd

Serving since 1943, Vidyarthi Bhavan started as a canteen to carter nearby schools (hence the name). Located amidst Bangalore's oldest and busiest market, the restaurant has become the place of city’s food heritage. Their limited menu offers very authentic south Indian breakfast meals, most popular being the very crispy benne dosa, which the waiters very skillfully carry in dozens. Although, it's not about just dosa - their Rave wada, Kesari bath and filter coffee ( or rather, kappi ) are amongst the best. Their dining hall offers a very vintage experience, nostalgic to the native people and has hosted giants such as chief ministers. Although you’ll have to wait in a long queue, share the table and be quick in eating, the experience is worth the visit.

Mavalli Tiffin Rooms - MTR, Lalbagh Road

Formally known as the Brahmin Coffee Club, later named Mavalli Tiffin Rooms after the locality - MTR started in 1924. Having had a long journey of serving for decades, MTR has become the icon of the city’s food culture, an important landmark, and a huge brand, having branches not just in India but in Dubai and Singapore as well. The restaurant pays special attention towards hygiene and cleanliness after its owner went Europe to study cleanliness in restaurants there. It is said the famous rava idli was invented here, by the owner’s grandfather due to shortage of rice during World war II. Often visited by celebrities (even Yash Chopra once) as well as politicians and their visit has also brought certain honor to the restaurant.

3. Bull Temple – Basavanagudi

The Bull temple is one of the oldest temple of Bangalore, dedicated to Nandi, known in Hindu mythology as Shiv's vehicle. Although I didn't find the temple impressive, the temple has an exciting legend associated with it. Also has Ganpati temple and Bugle rock garden adjacent to it.

5. Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace

• Nearest Metro: Lalbagh Station of Green Line (400 mtrs)

Located at KR Market, built around year 1791 the palace was summer residence of Tipu Sultan. Although, there isn't much to see as the palace is very small, you can take a stroll and combine it with Lal Bagh.

6. Vidhana Soudha

• Nearest Metro: BR Ambedkar Vidhana Soudha Station of Purple Line

Constructed in Mysore Neo-Dravidian style in 1956, the State legislature of Karnataka - Vidhana Soudha and adjacent to it - Atta Kacheri, the High Court of Karnataka are both architectural masterpieces. Although entry to these buildings is restricted, their all lighted up exterior offers a mesmerizing view in the night. Being just near to Metro Station (just outside the exit), it is very accessible and worth taking photos.

7. Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath and National Gallery of Modern Art

• Nearest Metro: Mantri Square Station of Green Line (1.4 kms)

Chitrakala Parishat is a renowned school of art, a place where you can appreciate art and culture. Established in 1960, KCP is a paradise for art-lovers and hosts a number of art exhibition and shows round the year, most popular being the annual Chitra Santhe during January. Chitrakala Parishat combined with National Gallery of Modern Art consists of around 13 galleries, making them a popular tourist spot.

8. Bangalore Palace

Built to resemble Windsor Castle, the palace was built in 1887 in European Tudor Style. The palace is surrounded by a vast garden, known as palace ground. Although very small, the palace looks amazing but one thing that I didn't like was their over-expensive entry fee, that too for such a small palace.

9. ISKCON Bengaluru and Orion Mall

• Opening Hours: Weekdays: 7.15 am –1.00 pm and 1.00 pm–8:30 pm, Weekends: 7.15 am –8.30 pm

• Nearest Metro: Mahalaxmi Station of Green Line (450 mtrs)

Being near Railway Station and easily accessible through metro, the temple has become is probably most visited destination in Bangalore. One of the largest ISKCON temple in the world.

The beautiful ambiance of the temple complex also featuring a small pond, along with Hare Rama-Hare Krishna chants make the atmosphere very serene and peaceful. It also offers great view of nearby buildings. The temple is very well planned, efficiently managed to handle the crowd and is a must visit.

10. Government Aquarium, Cubbon Park

Although poorly managed, The aquarium is adjacent to Cubbon park and has a nominal ticket of Rs 10. Said be the second largest museum in India, has a verity of exotic fishes. You can combine it with MG Road.

A very well maintained temple, known for beautiful giant Shiva statue about 65.5 feet tall, surrounded by artificial snow and 32 feet tall Lord Ganesha statue. Although the place has been overly-commercialized, the experience is mesmerizing, right from a shiv-linga like entrance, the main statue resembling Mount Kailash (even having an artificial lake similar to Man Sarovar), and a cave inside which there are small replicas of important Shiv temples (Jyotirlings) of India, making it a must visit.

To mark this year’s Earth Day, a two-hour cleanup will be held Saturday, April 20, at the Santa Ana-Delhi Channel entrance at the corner of Mesa Drive and Irvine Avenue in Costa Mesa. Volunteers are encouraged to help out.

The event organized by OC Coastkeeper and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Parking will be available on Mesa Drive or Anniversary Lane behind the channel.

Newport Beach Women’s Democratic Club to meet April 25

The OASIS Senior Center in Corona del Mar will be the venue on Thursday, April 25, when the Newport Beach Women’s Democratic Club will hold its monthly in-person meeting. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for networking; the speakers’ program starts at 6 p.m.

Dragon Kim Foundation offers 2 CdM students fellowship

Newport Beach students Preston Kousoulas, 17, and Evan Razmjoo, 16, both of whom attend Corona Del Mar High School, have been welcomed as members of the 2024 Fellowship Class of the Orange County-based Dragon Kim Foundation.

The nonprofit is a social entrepreneurship incubator for high school youth. Kousoulas and Razmjoo will be given three weekends of leadership training and up to $5,000 from the foundation to implement a social service project in the community this summer.

The duo plan to launch “CodeQuest Kids,” a project driven by their passion for coding that aims to equip underserved children with an introduction to coding skills. By conducting coding boot camps they will introduce students in grades six through eight to the world of programming and teach them to craft their own 2D video games.

New GM for Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach

The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa announced Thursday the appointment of Jon Benson as its new general manager.

Benson, who once served as the property’s director of food and beverage, is returning to oversee operations of the 519-room resort. He has been with Hyatt for more than 35 years, most recently as general manger of its Hana-Maui Resort.

Spring Garden Art Fair on tap for day before Mother’s Day

Sherman Library & Gardens’ Volunteer Assn. is hosting the Spring Garden Art Faire on Saturday, May 11.

The event, which will feature the sounds of harp music performed by members of the Orange County Harp Troupe, showcases not only the garden in its spring glory but themed artwork in a wide variety of media.

The Sherman’s volunteer group that’s known as the Sowers will present one-of-a-kind spring items for people and pets, with 100% of proceeds benefiting Sherman Library & Gardens. Children can create a birdhouse at the craft table and make a Mother’s Day card to take home.

Instructor-led classes will feature spring-themed projects throughout the day, and the horticulture staff will help interested guests create a bouquet for purchase.

The event is free with garden admission, which is free for members and $5 for nonmembers.

20th annual Spring Garden and Outdoor Living Tour set for May 19

Tickets are on sale now for the Rossmoor Woman’s Club’s 20th annual Spring Garden and Outdoor Living Tour, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.

The fundraiser will feature six Rossmoor homes, two elementary schools, floral demonstrations, a plant sale, raffle and more.

One of the featured gardens, a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat, is inspired by the owner’s antiques collections as well as her pilgrimage to the famous Camino de Santiago in Europe. Another home employs murals, plants and statuary in homage to its owner’s late spouse and in appreciation of friends and family who have helped her through her grief.

Other gardens on the tour feature amenities such as pools, bars and barbecue areas for family-oriented entertainers, a putting green and a hot tub for retirees seeking low-maintenance. The tour this year also includes vegetable and herb gardens tended by pupils at Richard Henry Lee and Rossmoor elementary schools under the auspices of the Orange County Master Gardeners Program.

The self-guided tour includes an outdoor marketplace at Arbor Village. Tickets, which contain addresses and a map to all the homes, are $20 per person. They may be purchased in advance from any club member, from a selection of local merchants or on the club website, rossmoorwomansclub.org .

5 Maryland teens shot, 1 critically injured, during water gun fight for senior skip day

Authorities are searching for at least one suspect who shot five teenagers, one of whom was critically wounded, during a water gun fight Friday celebrating "senior skip day" at a park in Greenbelt, Maryland, authorities said. 

"These were kids on senior skip day who were looking to have a good time at a local park," Greenbelt Police Chief Richard Bowers said at a news conference later on Friday evening. "And to have something like this occur, is just — it's maddening, honestly." 

Hundreds of teens who had skipped school in Prince George's County for the tradition had initially gathered in Bowie, Maryland, said Greenbelt police spokesperson Ricardo Dennis. 

When both Bowie and Prince George's County police scattered the crowd, about 500 students eventually reconvened at Schrom Hills Recreation Center in Greenbelt, Dennis said. The meet-up had been informally organized on social media authorities said.  

Students will leave school and head to the park with super soakers and squirt guns and "have a good time playing water gun battles," Bowers said, adding teens had a similar water gun fight last year with no incidents.  

The Schrom park is not large and there were a lot of teens crowded into a small space, said Bowers, so officers requested backup. 

Officers were monitoring the water gun fight when live shots from "someone who brought a real gun" were heard, Bowers said. There were about eight to 10 shots fired, Bowers disclosed, and the area was immediately secured while officers searched for a suspect. 

Most of the teenagers left the park as police responded, Dennis said, and a critically injured victim was airlifted to an area hospital. Four other victims were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, he said. 

Authorities had earlier reported that two of the victims were in critical condition, but downgraded that to one in the evening news conference. 

Two of the shooting victims were under the age of 18, and the other three were over 18, police said. 

Investigators believe the suspect fled the park with the other teens. Police are still investigating whether the gun was fired by someone who was participating in the water gun fight.   

"This is a horrible, tragic, senseless act that happened today. There is absolutely no reason that this occurred. It is senseless, it is chronic in our society, and we have to do something to stop it," Bowers said.
