The Postal Service releases 2013 tour dates

We knew The Postal Service was back, but now it could be coming to a city near you. According to the band’s website , The Postal Service is going on tour in 2013 for the first time since 2003.

The band is set to release a 10th anniversary edition of its album Give Up complete with 15 additional songs on April 9, which also marks the band’s first tour date in Reno, Nevada. Two months later, the tour will wrap in Brooklyn, New York. Check out a full list of tour dates below:

it hthe upcoming 10th anniversary re-issue of The Postal Service's Give   Up , the band has announced a run of tour dates in the US, Canada, and Europe and includes stop at both Coachella and Sasquatch festivals.

The re-issue is set for April 9 and will include 15 bonus songs.

The Postal Service has announced a string of tour dates for 2013 to commemorate the 10th anniversary and subsequent reissue of their 2001 debut Give Up.

The Postal Service Announces Tour Dates

Two weeks ago, we learned that the Postal Service was reuniting for the tenth anniversary of their only LP, Give Up . Now some details are coming out, including the twelve stops on their tour. The tour starts on April 9, corresponding with the release of the special-edition Give Up reissue. We already knew about their Coachella slot , but they will also be playing the Primavera Sound Festival. The whole thing ends at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Jenny Lewis, who actually played with the band on their first and only tour, we’ll be joining them once again. Read the full list of dates below, so you can buy your tickets in a style that Clark Gable would have admired.

Jenny Lewis Talks The Postal Service Reunion & New Solo Record

You’ve basically done everything when it comes to movies and music except for a soundtrack. How was this different? What attracted you to it? "It’s way more of a collaborative process than I’m used to. Even being in a rock band, you’re dealing with three other people. I’ve been really fortunate over the years; I haven’t had to answer to anyone creatively except myself as a lyricist...and my band. So, having to create something for a director, a story, producers, and their feedback is apart of the process. I really learned a lot. This was my first time composing a score and I think throughout the process I figured it out. By the last week I was like, 'Oh! Now I know how to communicate with people.'"

Which is what happens when you work with a large group of people who are very used to production schedules and particular ways of "business-like" communicating...

"And to have a real job — I play rock and roll, so I sleep ‘til noon. To have to wake up in the morning and be in a room with people, and learning how to assimilate the critique from people who don’t speak the language of music, and then to be able to apply that to the actual work where you’re like, 'Uh, so do you want me to change the chord or do you not like the drums? Can you be specific and tell me what it is that you like.'”

Like, “Well, we want it to be more sad…”

You haven’t done anything in film in years...

"Well, I had a cameo on Gossip Girl two years ago, but that didn’t count and I was terrible. They gave me the weirdest line to say and I made a thousand facial expressions. I blinked a couple of times and the camera luckily panned away from me. I retired when I was...19 or 20? It’s been a while."

So, elephant in the room: The Postal Service is getting back together. Are you involved in that? Are you excited? Can you tell us a little bit more about it?

"Well I don’t want to say too much ‘cause I’m going to let Ben [Gibbard] and Jimmy [Tamborello] talk about it. They’re my good friends and I would be sad if they didn’t ask me to come along. But, I am very excited. Ten years ago when we toured that record, we toured before it came out and for about a month or two after it came out. So, I don’t think we’ve experienced the full impact of how [it was received] — people really love that record."

Unbelievably so. It was era-defining. What about you, though? What’s on your horizon?

"I’m finishing up a solo record that I’ve been working on for a year and a half. I had to start working on the film, so I had to shelve it for a moment, which was actually a positive thing for me because I hit a wall with some of the songs. Working instrumentally on the film was a little break from my own narrative. Now I’m ready to get back to myself."

How was it working back in movies, but without actually acting in them? Did you get to work with the actresses? "The song that Lizzie Olsen performs [in Very Good Girls ], ' Go Ahead ,' is a Rilo Kiley song. It’s the first song off the first record. She’s a young songwriter within her first maybe ten or fifteen songs, so [Director] Naomi [Foner] and I thought that would be a really great way to speak to that process.

Here Is The Postal Service’s ‘Give Up 20th Anniversary Tour’ Setlist

Last night at Washington DC’s The Anthem, The Postal Service made their grand return for their first concert performance since 2013. The reunion tour finds the group celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 2003 album, Give Up .

Given that Ben Gibbard is also part of The Postal Service, the tour is also a joint run with Death Cab For Cutie — giving tribute to their other album from that same year, Transatlanticism .

“I know for a fact I will never have a year again like 2003,” Gibbard previously said. “The Postal Service record came out, Transatlanticism came out. These two records will be on my tombstone, and I’m totally fine with that. I’ve never had a more creatively inspired year.”

For fans who are planning to catch the stacked tour at one of the upcoming stops, as the two bands are set to play in Boston, NYC, and other North American cities, you might be wondering what songs The Postal Service will be playing.

US Postal Service seeking to hike cost of first-class stamp to 73 cents

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service signaled plans Tuesday for a rate increase that includes hiking the cost of a first-class stamp from 68 cents to 73 cents, part of an overall 7.8% increase to take effect this summer.

The request was made to the Postal Regulatory Commission, which must approve the proposed increase that the Postal Service contends is necessary to achieve financial stability. If approved, the 5-cent increase for a “forever” stamp and similar increases for postcards, metered letters and international mail would take effect July 14.

U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy previously warned postal customers to get used to “uncomfortable” rate hikes as the Postal Service seeks to become self-sufficient. He said price increases were overdue after “at least 10 years of a defective pricing model.”

In its filing, the Postal Service said it’s also seeking price adjustments on special services such as money order fees and certified mail. But there will be no price increase for post office box rentals, and postal insurance will be reduced by 10% when items are mailed, the postal service said.
