A radio, a concept: Radio Cyclo

  • 2019 May 10

This week, we are delighted to welcome Jérome, founder of Radio Cyclo , the first online radio station dedicated to cycling.  Hold on tight, we’re taking you on a ride to the universe of this radio station, dedicated to 2-wheel enthusiasts.

Can you briefly describe your project and the origins of Radio Cyclo?

Radio Cyclo is first and foremost the encounter of two radio enthusiasts and sports lovers ( especially cycling ). I had already been involved with the radio in 1982, during the liberation of the airwaves as we say, and I recently returned to it through an online radio station entirely dedicated to real estate. Arnaud Manzanini, co-creator, produces and distributes his podcasts, he is a high-level cyclist, but also a race organiser. Our 2 experiences gave birth to Radio Cyclo.

To finish off, a word of advice for those who want to start their radio adventure?

Feel free to start and create your own online radio station. It is the modern medium. RadioKing allows you to embark on the adventure, with the necessary tools and with a reasonable budget.

Riding a cyclo in Vietnam – 4 best experiences

  • Travel tips

Riding a cyclo in Vietnam offers a local and authentic experience, particularly in the old cities of Hanoi, Hue, and Hoi An. It is a unique way to explore these historic destinations, immersing yourself in their charm and heritage while enjoying the leisurely pace of a cyclo ride.

What is a cyclo?

  • How to arrange a cyclo tour?

How much does a cyclo tour cost?

  • 4 best cyclo tour experiences

A cyclo is a traditional three-wheeled bicycle taxi, also known as cycle rickshaws. It features a seat for passengers at the front, attached to the front wheel, with a driver sitting behind and pedaling the vehicle.

cyclo tour in VIetnam

The history of cyclos in Vietnam can be traced back to the French colonial period. The cyclo was introduced to Vietnam by the French in the early 20th century and quickly became a popular means of transportation. It was an affordable and efficient mode of transport for both locals and foreigners.

Today, while cyclos are still seen in Vietnam, their usage has shifted more towards leisurely purposes rather than practical transportation. They are often found in tourist areas and are used for short rides or sightseeing trips. However, with the rise of motorbikes and cars, cyclos are gradually disappearing from the streets of Vietnam.

In an effort to combat traffic congestion and improve road safety, some cities or parts of cities in Vietnam have implemented bans on cyclos. These measures aim to prioritize more efficient modes of transportation and reduce the number of vehicles on the roads. Despite this, there is still a charm and nostalgia associated with cyclos, attracting many tourists who wish to experience a leisurely ride through the bustling streets of Vietnam.

How to arrange a cyclo tour in Vietnam?

There are two types of cyclo tours that you can choose from for your exploration:

  • Arrange a cyclo ride by yourself : This option allows you to independently hire a cyclo and plan your own itinerary. It is often the more budget-friendly choice, as you can negotiate the price directly with the cyclo rider. However, there might be some challenges in communication, as the cyclo riders may not speak English fluently. It can also be difficult to decide on the best places to visit if you are unfamiliar with the city. Nonetheless, this option provides flexibility and allows you to customize your experience according to your preferences.
  • Join an organized tour that includes a cyclo ride : Opting for an organized tour offers a hassle-free and well-structured experience. These tours typically include an English-speaking guide who can provide insights and explanations about the destinations you visit. The itinerary is already planned, so you don’t have to worry about deciding where to go or missing out on important sites. This option ensures convenience and peace of mind, as the details are taken care of, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the experience without any additional stress.

The cost of a cyclo tour in Vietnam can vary depending on several factors, including the duration of the tour, the location, and your negotiation skills. Typically, the price is agreed upon between you and the cyclo driver before the tour begins.

In popular tourist areas, such as Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the starting price for a short cyclo tour can range from around 100,000 to 200,000 Vietnamese Dong (approximately $4 to $9 USD). This would cover a relatively brief ride around the main sights or attractions in the area.

For longer cyclo tours or customized itineraries, the price can increase accordingly. It’s essential to negotiate and agree on the fare before starting the tour to avoid any misunderstandings or disputes.

Keep in mind that these prices are just a general guideline, and actual prices may vary depending on the location, time of day, and individual negotiations. It’s always a good idea to establish clear communication and agree on the price in advance to ensure a fair and enjoyable cyclo tour experience.

Tour de Romandie 2024: live stream cycling online

The 77th Tour de Romandie packs in 11,000m of climbing across six stages in Switzerland

Cristian Rodriguez time trials at the Tour of Romandie

  • FREE live streams
  • Watch from anywhere
  • Route & stages

Last year's winner Adam Yates and third-placed Damiano Caruso both return to this six day-stage race in Romandie, the French speaking area of west Switzerland to battle again in the region's beautiful mountain scenery.

Read on and we'll show you how to watch the Tour de Romandie 2024 live streams from anywhere with a VPN , and potentially for FREE .

Tour de Romandie 2024 live streams take place between Tuesday, April 23 and Sunday, April 28. Start times vary. • FREE STREAMS —   Watch on SRF (Switzerland) •   U.S. — Watch on FloBikes •   U.K. — Watch on Discovery+ • Watch anywhere — Try NordVPN

Starting with a minuscule 2.3km prologue in the town of Payerne, the 77th Tour de Romandie will cover a total of 657km and pack in over 11,000m of climbing with a time trial on stage three and summit finishes on both stages two and four at Les Marécottes and Leysin.

Favourite to repeat his victory of last year will be Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) who will be backed up by a strong team including Pavel Sivakov, Felix Großschartner and Juan Ayuso. Leading the challenge will be the ever improving Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers) winner of the recent Giro d’Abruzzo Alexey Lutsenko (Astana Qazaqstan Team) and young French star Lenny Martinez (Groupama - FDJ).

The course isn’t just for the climbers though as with a prologue and a mid-race time trial many TT specialists are on the start sheet too including Josh Tarling and Ethan Hayter from (INEOS Grenadiers) and Rémi Cavagna (Movistar Team).

An incredibly technical 2.2km prologue started the race with just hundredths of seconds separating the riders at the end. On the twisting course with multiple tight corners it was as much skill as raw power that would decide the winner.

Coming out on top was Maikel Zijlaard (Tudor Pro Cycling) who took the win ahead of Cameron Scott (Bahrain Victorious) with Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal-Quickstep) completing podium.

Read on for where to watch the Tour de Romandie 2024 cycling action live, wherever you are in the world.

Tour de Romandie 2024 stages

The race starts with a very short 2.3km prologue which will be contested by the overall favorites, keen to install a pecking order early on, and the short TT specialists looking for a chance to gain a leaders jersey in a big stage race.

Stage one follows the next day and it’s a lumpy 165.7km from Château d’Oex to Fribourg which will likely end in a sprint finish, although there are very view big name sprinters on the start sheet.

Stage two is where the GC action will really kick off with two huge mountains and a summit finish at Salvan/Les Marécottes. This 10km final ascent, averaging 7.3%, has slopes maxing out at 14% so will be a proper test for the climbers.

Those same climbers will the next day have to take on the 15.5km continuously undulating time trial around Oron and utilise another skill needed to win a stage race.

Stage four from Saillon to Leysin is 151.7km and takes the riders into higher territory with five classified climbs including the 10km summit finish at the end.

After this the GC battle should be stitched up with just the laps around Vernier to contend with on the final stage which will likely end in a sprint.

Why Rod Ellingworth left Ineos Grenadiers

After being at the forefront of British success for two decades, masterminding the development of superstars such as Mark Cavendish, Geraint Thomas, Bradley Wiggins and Tom Pidcock, Rod Ellingworth has left WorldTour to oversee the reboot of the women’s and men’s Tour of Britain.  In an exclusive interview trackside at Manchester velodrome, Ellingworth reveals why he left Ineos Grenadiers, how he has a bold vision to grow British Cycling’s national tours — and whether he’ll be giving Dave Brailsford advice on who to bring off the bench at Old Trafford… Sandwiched between the pavé and the Giro d’Italia are the Ardennes Classics, hilly one-day races in the elevated lands of the Netherlands and Belgium, the setting this coming weekend for a heavyweight clash between Tadej Pogačar and Mathieu van der Poel. In our preview of the weekend's major racing action, Ardennes Classics veteran Dan Martin, winner of Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 2013, tells us what makes these races so special and about the qualities required to win them. We also hear from Bahrain-Victorious's Pello Bilbao on how you go about beating Tadej Pogačar. While Van der Poel and Pogačar have been hogging the victories and the headlines at the very top of the sport, it's also become increasingly difficult to ignore the feats of 21-year-old Briton Joe Blackmore. Winner of the Tours of Rwanda and Taiwan, 4th against the big guns at Flèche Brabonçonne, and victorious again at the under-23 edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Blackmore has just signed a 2-year contract with Israel-PremierTech. In our profile of this hugely exciting talent, we hear from Joe Blackmore himself, who tells us what kind of rider he sees himself as and about his motivations as a racer. In our regular feature on "Ways to Make Cycling Better", former pro and now EF Education-EasyPost team director Tejay van Garderen tells us why he'd like to see names and numbers on riders' jerseys. Bora boss Ralph Denk on Roglič's state of health, Red Bull's stake in his team, links to Wout van Aert & Cian Uijtdebroeks' disappointing departure

The frenzy of the cobbles are just about behind us, the Ardennes Classics now lie in wait and soon the high mountains of races like the Tour of the Alps and, of course, the Giro d’Italia will fill our screens...  Meanwhile, off the road, the UCI has just announced that it is bringing in a new face to lead the fight against technological fraud….but who is this guy…? We profile and hear from Nicholas Raudenski – a former criminal investigator who has also worked for the US Department of Homeland Security – who's about to head up the UCI's beefed-up battle against motor doping. We also reveal the main focus for Raudenski and this new initiative, which is being driven by UCI president David Lappartient. Continuing our series of interviews with the managers of the peloton's leading teams, we speak exclusively to Bora-hansgrohe boss Ralph Denk. In a wide-ranging discussion, Denk reveals the latest on team leader Primož Roglič’s recovery from his Itzulia Basque Country-ending crash, Red Bull's increased investment in the team and potential links to Red Bull-sponsored Wout van Aert, why he'd like to see budget caps on top teams, his disappointment with Cian Uijtdebroeks' departure to Visma-Lease a Bike and his suggestion for improving the sport. In the wake of the horrific Itzulia crash, we also speak to Safe Cycling CEO Markus Laerum, whose company acts as a safety consultancy to many major races including the Tour France. He opens up on pre-Itzulia concerns about safety on that race, his conversation about dodgy Basque descents with Jonas Vingegaard, and about how receptive race organisers are to Safe Cycling suggestions and initiatives. Plus, after making his journalistic debut at Paris-Roubaix last weekend, our intrepid presenter Chris Marshall-Bell talks Hell of the North with Cycling Weekly's Tom Thewlis. Safety first at Paris-Roubaix with Arenberg chicane, One Cycling project in limbo, fears grow over Israel-PremierTech's presence

It’s time for Paris-Roubaix: the race that every kid dreams of winning, but that half the pro peloton hate. After last weekend’s chaos on the Koppenberg in the Tour of Flanders, what lies in wait in the ‘Hell of the North’?One thing that's already clear is that race organisers ASO and the riders' union the CPA are determined to put a strong emphasis on safety, most specifically with the introduction of a chicane right before the entrance to the most notorious section of cobbles in the Arenberg Forest. We hear from CPA president Adam Hansen, who reveals what drove this initiative and why he believes it's "wonderful". But, we ask, does it also alter the essence of this legendary race? The hot topic over the off-season, the One Cycling project is now on the back burner. Has it hit the buffers and come to nothing as some are claiming? Or is there still some life in it? We've been gauging the current attitude within the sport to the scheme and reveal how close it was to happening and what, ultimately, stymied it.  Since the start of the 2024 season, another issue concerning the sport has been Israel-PremierTech’s presence in races and the risk that poses to the peloton given the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. We report on growing anxiety within some teams and how IPT have responded to being the potential target for protests.Plus, we hear from Cofidis's Harrison Wood on his way to make cycling better, while our new quiz reveals the answer to the question: what's the lowest kilometric amount of cobbles to feature on the route of Paris-Roubaix?This podcast is brought to you with the support of our sponsor, Saddle Skedaddle.Music provided by HearWeGo Marion - High Hopes Support the show Learn more about your ad choices. Is Tadej Pogačar the greatest of all time? Plus, our Tour of Flanders preview and the latest on the Women's Tour of Britain

Another bike race, another Tadej Pogačar exhibition. The Slovenian didn’t just win the Volta a Catalunya, one of cycling’s toughest week-long stage races, he completely annihilated the opposition.Pogačar’s only 25, but already he counts 69 victories on his palmarès, including two Tours de France and five Monuments. Is there anything he can’t do? Is he now knocking on the door of eternal greatness? We put that question to the man himself in Catalonia, where Pogačar tells us that he's stepped up a level this year and is now going into every race determined to win, and always with a smile on his face.We also also hear from George Bennett and Guillaume Martin, who admit that the rest of the peloton are now racing for second place almost every time Pogačar takes to the start line.We also look ahead to this Sunday's Tour of Flanders, where there's also one name on everyone's lips, that of two-time champion Mathieu van der Poel. With Pogačar not defending his title and Wout van Aert and Jasper Stuyven now sidelined by broken collarbones sustained in this week's Dwars door Vlaanderen, the world champion is the outstanding favourite for a third Ronde success. We hear from Mads Pedersen, Michael Matthews, Jordi Meeus and Matteo Trentin on if and how Van der Poel can be beaten. And, finally, as Tour de France Femmes goes from strength to strength, what is happening with the British women’s scene? Cycling Weekly's Tom Thewlis reveals the latest on the Women's Tour of Britain, which now, of course, has former Ineos team manager Rod Ellingworth as its race director. After a period when it appeared that the Women's Tour might not take place in 2024, there are growing reasons for optimism, with a route taking shape that includes two opening stages in Wales. We also speak to Ford Ride London Classique technical director Kevin Nash on the strides being made by that three-day May race, and hear from Britain's emblematic road racer Lizzie Deignan, who highlights the continued growth and wider popularity of women’s racing in Britain and how the scene has changed since she won silver in the road event at the 2012 London Olympics. This podcast is brought to you with the support of our sponsor, Saddle Skedaddle. British Grand Départ on ice, Pogačar's plan for Sanremo, Paris-Nice set for big freeze

The WorldTour’s Big Four stage racers – Vingegaard, Pogačar, Evenepoel and Roglic — are all on the road at last, as the European season really gets going.  We start, though, with the news that the much-rumoured British Grand Départ, set to take place in 2026, has been shelved. UK Sport deputy CEO Simon Morton tells us, "We are not actively pursuing hosting in 2026," as the funding crisis in local government takes hold and cuts are made to government-backed sporting events in what's an election year. Yet after this latest gloomy development for British cycling, Morton suggests there is still some hope that the Tour and/or Tour de France Femmes could return to the UK, perhaps in 2027.After his demolition derby on his rivals at Strade Bianche, Tadej Pogačar is now turning his attention to Milan-Sanremo, one of two Monuments he's still to win. His 81km solo ride to success on Tuscany's white roads underlined once again that the UAE Team Emirates rider can create his own script for one-day races, but can he do that for Sanremo, the most predictable of the lot? We speak to Jayco-AlUla DS Matt White, who believes that the Slovenian is likely to make another early attack, but won't find is as straightforward to hold on when he does.In our final story, we look ahead to the finale of Paris-Nice, which is once again threatened by a big freeze as it heads towards high finishes in the southern Alps just inland from the Côte d'Azur.    Support the show Learn more about your ad choices. Opening Weekend preview, Women's Tour of Britain latest, Cofidis pro Zingle saves friend's life following race crash

Had enough of sandstorms, palm trees and camels at the roadside? Get ready then for beers and techno, bergs and burgers: it’s time for Opening Weekend...We start with a preview of Saturday's two editions of Het Nieuwsblad and Sunday's Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. The men's edition of Het Nieuwsblad will see Visma-Lease A Bike start with a stacked team that features the race's last two winners, Dylan van Baarle and Wout van Aert, and very much tagged as favourites. We hear from Sep Vanmarcke, who won this race in 2012 against an equally powerful BMC team and is now director for Israel-PremierTech in the Classics. Vanmarcke explains the hurdles facing Visma-LAB and reveals his hopes for the young IPT line-up.The women's Classics campaign also starts at Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday. We speak to Human Powered Health's Audrey Cordon-Ragot, who tells us about the significance of this race and why she's hoping it'll be wet and wild this weekend. The French racer also reflects on the latest more optimistic news for the Women's Tour of Britain. With that event in mind, we also hear from Cycling Weekly's Tom Thewlis,  who provides an update on the latest developments for the Women's Tour of Britain, which has returned to the UCI calendar as a four-day event and, assuming British Cycling can fulfil the financial and logistical requirements, is likely to run as a "hub" race based on one or two cities. Finally we turn to a quite astonishing story. It’s a tale that could have had an absolutely awful outcome, but which ended up with Cofidis pro Axel Zingle perhaps saving the life of one of his close friends, Yael Joalland, during the GP Marseillaise race in France last month.  Support the show Learn more about your ad choices. 2024 RBC Heritage live stream, TV schedule, how to watch online, channel, tee times, radio, golf coverage

There was no rest for the weary with a signature event on tap one week after the masters.

rbc-heritage-signage-2023-g.jpg

Players have made the short trip from Augusta, Georgia, to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for the 2024 RBC Heritage. In total, 69 golfers teed it up on Harbour Town Golf Links as yet another signature event on the PGA Tour's playing calendar rolls on.

Unlike the Genesis Invitational or Arnold Palmer Invitational, the RBC Heritage does not feature a 36-hole cut, meaning the entirety of the field will be around for the weekend. That is music to the ears to those who missed out on the weekend action at the Masters, including the likes of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman.

Spieth, the 2022 champion, looks to kickstart his season after a disappointing showing at Augusta National. He is no stranger to bouncing back at the RBC Heritage, following a missed cut at the year's first major championship with a win a week later in Hilton Head. He's not in contention to win this tournament, but he's certainly playing better than he did last week.

This tournament, like the rest on the PGA Tour these days, goes through Scottie Scheffler. The world No. 1 aims to collect his fourth trophy in his last five tournaments, and he holds the 54-hole lead entering the final day of play. Fresh off slipping on his second green jacket, Scheffler has widened the gap between him and the rest of the world and shows no signs of slowing down. Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Åberg -- just as they did at the Masters -- are breathing down Scheffler's neck on Sunday.

Plea for Rory McIlroy to rejoin PGA Tour board and help stalled merger talks with LIV Golf

Plea for Rory McIlroy to rejoin PGA Tour board and help stalled merger talks with LIV Golf

A plan is in place for Rory McIlroy to rejoin the PGA Tour board, a move that would require the board's approval and could be viewed as a chance to help improve stalled negotiations with the Saudi financial backers of LIV Golf .

McIlroy resigned from the board in November, saying he felt he could no longer commit the time and energy required with the PGA Tour trying to finalise an agreement with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

The deal with PIF was not finalised, and the PGA Tour instead took on Strategic Sports Group as a minority investor in a deal that could be worth as much as $4.62 billion.

Webb Simpson, one of the six player directors on the PGA Tour board and PGA Tour Enterprises board, has submitted a letter saying that he wants to resign as a player director but only if McIlroy replaces him, according to a person who has seen the letter.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the letter was not made public. The board is expected to discuss Simpson's request as early as Thursday.

PGA Tour Enterprises is the new commercial entity, though six players serve on both boards.

McIlroy's resignation in November required the other five player directors — Simpson, Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott and Peter Malnati — to elect a player to serve out the term through 2024. They chose Jordan Spieth.

Some of those players have been at odds with McIlroy over the last few months because the four-time major champion has changed his tune about LIV Golf and has suggested LIV players be allowed to return to the PGA Tour without penalty.

Spieth and McIlroy disagreed in February over Spieth's comments that a deal with PIF was not needed because of the SSG investment, although it would help with unification.

The Simpson case, however, is different. He has not resigned from the board. The person said Simpson's letter said he would resign if McIlroy could replace him; otherwise, he would stay on the boards.

The person said Simpson indicated the board currently does not have a European player — five are Americans and Scott is Australian.

SSG in a consortium of American sports owners, led by the Fenway Group, and McIlroy has an affiliation with Fenway through the new TGL team league due to start play in January.

The Guardian, which first reported McIlroy's potential move back to the board, also noted McIlroy has a good relationship with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the PIF governor.

Al-Rumayyan met with the player directors — he even played nine holes with Woods — in the Bahamas a week after The Players Championship last month. Spieth described that meeting as a chance to talk while figuring out the next step.

There have been no reports of progress since then.

A London financial newspaper, City AM, reported last week that LIV had offered McIlroy $1.3 billion to join, based on sources it did not identify. McIlroy quickly shot down those rumours and said he would play the PGA Tour “for the rest of my career”. But he also reiterated his hopes that golf could be unified again outside the four majors.

“The game is better when we're all together,” he said last week at the RBC Heritage.

The hurdle for any kind of a deal has been how to unify the game. Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, and Dustin Johnson are among players who signed bonuses said to be worth upward of $150 million that led to the divide.

McIlroy said last month at The Players Championship that Al-Rumayyan “wants to do the right thing” for all of golf and that LIV commissioner Greg Norman and others have done the PIF leader a disservice.

“So the closer that we can get to Yasir, PIF and hopefully finalize that investment, I think that will be a really good thing," McIlroy said.

SSG's initial investment of $2.3 billion is for a first-of-its-kind equity ownership program. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a February memo that $1.16 billion in aggregate equity would be granted to 36 players based on career performance, last five-year performance and Player Impact Program results.

Those players are to learn details of how much they receive this week.
