Garuda Indonesia: The Complete Guide To Earning & Redeeming GarudaMiles

Diana Mason

Garuda Indonesia is the second-largest airline of Indonesia and a member of SkyTeam. The carrier flies to over 90 destinations across Indonesia, Asia, Europe and Australia. Although Garuda does not fly to the United States, it does service popular destinations like Bali and Amsterdam. Plus, Garuda Indonesia has been recognized as Skytrax as the Best Regional Airline Worldwide.

See our  best credit card bonuses here .

GarudaMiles is the airline’s frequent flyer program, letting members earn and spend miles on flights, upgrades and more, with Garuda and its partners. Keep reading for everything you need to know about GarudaMiles.

CHASE UNITED℠ EXPLORER CARD

credit card bonus

The  Chase United℠ Explorer Card  from  Chase has an offer for up to 50,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 total in the first 3 months. We value these 50k miles at around $700 .

The card earns 2X miles on dining and eligible delivery services, hotel stays and United® purchases. United purchases include:

  • Economy Plus
  • Inflight food, beverages, Wi-Fi
  • Other United charges

GarudaMiles Elite Status

When you join GarudaMiles and take one flight with Garuda Indonesia, you’ll automatically become a Blue member. Move up status tiers when you collect enough Tier Miles within a 12-month period:

Status benefits include:

Earning GarudaMiles

Earn GarudaMiles Tier and Award Miles when you fly with Garuda Indonesia and all SkyTeam airlines:

  • Aerolineas Argentinas
  • China Airlines
  • China Eastern
  • Czech Airlines
  • Kenya Airways
  • Vietnam Airlines

You can also earn miles with non-SkyTeam partner airlines, including ANA and Etihad Airways .

The amount of miles you’ll get for your flight depends on which airline you’re flying as well as the ticket fare class.

Earn GarudaMiles when you:

  • Book your stay at Trip.com, Swiss-Belhotel, Melia, AYANA and more.
  • Book your vacation with Garuda Indonesia Holidays.
  • Shop onboard a Garuda Indonesia flight, or at Grand Indonesia, Pacific Place and RebateMango.

If you find yourself short on miles for an award, you can purchase 1,000 miles for $30. GarudaMiles allows a maximum purchase of 100,000 miles per calendar year.

Redeeming GarudaMiles

GarudaMiles expire after 36 months of inactivity. To keep your account active, make sure to earn or burn miles at least once every three years.

Use your GarudaMiles for free flights with Garuda Indonesia and their airline partners. Bear in mind, you must adhere to the following procedure:

  • Contact a Garuda Call Center to place a hold on your ticket.
  • Download the award ticket application form from the Garuda website and sign it.
  • Submit the form with your GarudaMiles membership card and proof of identity to a Garuda Indonesia Sales Office (Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, New York City) in person.
  • Return to the office and claim your ticket, which must be in person.

The process to upgrade with miles is similar, but with a different form to fill out and submit.

You can also redeem your GarudaMiles for:

  • CMK Jewelry shopping vouchers
  • PCR swab and antigen services
  • Charitable donations

GarudaMiles Best Redemptions

The best way to redeem your GarudaMiles is for short-haul domestic flights on Garuda and Citilink. You won’t find a better deal if you want to explore Indonesia.

Bottom Line

Garuda Indonesia isn’t a popular airline, nor does it serve any cities in the United States. That said, GarudaMiles can be a valuable program if you plan to travel to Indonesia.

However, it doesn’t provide many ways to earn GarudaMiles. For better earning potential, consider Flying Blue . The Air France/KLM frequent flyer program allows point transfers from American Express Membership Rewards® , Capital One Rewards , Chase Ultimate Rewards® and Citi ThankYou® Rewards .

Redeeming Your Miles

As a GarudaMiles member, you can redeem awards for tickets on all SkyTeam flights, but you are required to maintain Miles activity at least, once every 3-years!

However, the redeeming of miles may for some members appear something of a challenge due to the procedures involved, as follows:

  • You must contact a Garuda Call Center and place a hold on your ticket.
  • Download from the Garuda website and complete an award ticket application form and sign it.
  • Submit the form with your Garuda Miles membership card and proof of identity to a Garuda Indonesia Sales Office in person.
  • Return to the office and claim your ticket, which must be in person.

For some members, the procedures could entail more than one visit to your local Garuda office. Furthermore, it could only be a possibility for members in the USA with access to Garuda offices in the following locations none within an airport!

Garuda office locations:

California 16250 Venture Boulevard

Chicago 401 North Michigan Avenue

Houston 3050 Post Oak Boulevard

New York Suite 705, 450 7th-Avenues

Notwithstanding the required efforts, it's definitely worth it to take your time and pass the needed procedures.

Upgrading With Your Miles

You are given the opportunity of upgrading with your Garuda Miles on its own flights. However, for some members, it is not a viable option due to:

  • Booking restrictions,
  • The challenges posed with the redemption.

Although outwardly, upgrading from economy to business class may be considered comparatively reasonable, this perception could change. You must also take into account the need to purchase an upgradable economy ticket in a V, H, S or G classes in order to utilize your miles for an upgrade. Similarly, if upgrading from business to first class.

If the foregoing has given you cause to question whether it’s viable to make GarudaMiles your primary airline reward program here are some checks and balances for you to consider!

  • A lot depends upon the destinations you intend to fly.
  • Financial advantages when flying with Indonesia domestic or SkyTeam one-way flights.

Although the Garuda Indonesia airline is not well recognized and does not serve any city in the USA, it can offer you a valuable and financially rewarding service if you intend to travel to Indonesia. The GarudaMiles frequent flyer program offers its members significant redemption rates related to domestic flights within the country.

China Eastern is one of the world’s most important major airlines. Why? China Eastern connects much of the world to a vital global business hub: Shanghai .

Also known as China Eastern Airlines, China Eastern possesses roots all the way back to 1988 as a branch of the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

Today, it has grown to become China’s second-largest airline by the number of passengers carried, just after Guangzhou-based China Southern Airlines.

The SkyTeam airline offers a unique frequent flyer program known as Eastern Miles. The miles you can earn and redeem are typically referred to as Eastern Miles points .

In this guide, we’ll show you all the top ways you can redeem China Eastern Eastern Miles points for maximum value. You don’t have to book flights on China Eastern to get awesome value — read on for more details!

Deciphering all the policies that Eastern Miles has for redeeming points can feel a whole lot like reading hieroglyphs. Luckily, we’ve boiled down the major takeaways for Eastern Miles point redemptions in this section.

Here are some of the top reasons why you’d gravitate towards Eastern Miles:

  • You can book one-way tickets for half of the price of a round-trip award ticket on partner awards.
  • 1 open-jaw is allowed on international itineraries as long as the open-jaw is within a single region/zone.

Here are some of the major cons of Eastern Miles you’ll want to keep in mind:

  • The only eligible changes you can make to your award ticket are flight date and time changes .
  • There are no refunds/voluntary cancellations permitted unless you are an Eastern Miles Platinum member .
  • You can only redeem up to 2 round-trip award tickets or 4 one-way award tickets for other travelers besides yourself in China Eastern first or business class for flights between China and Europe, the South Pacific, North America, South Africa, or Hawaii.
  • Mixed cabin awards are allowed only on round-trip redemptions.
  • One-way tickets on China Eastern, Shanghai Airlines, and China United Airlines cost more than half of a round-trip ticket.
  • Most fuel surcharges are passed on.
  • The award price for children and infants is the same as for adults.

Using Your China Eastern Airlines Eastern Miles Points

China Eastern has some interesting rules when it comes to Eastern Miles point redemptions.

China Eastern’s frequent flyer program is based entirely on the metric system, so Eastern Miles points are accumulated and redeemed based on kilometers .

In other words, when you fly on an eligible plane ticket, the miles you earn are usually a function of the flight distance in kilometers, not miles. As a result, it’s significantly easier to earn Eastern Miles points.

Let’s say that you flew on a short, 500-mile (805-kilometer) flight with a 200% accrual rate. That means that you would earn 1,610 Eastern Miles points, as opposed to 1,000 Eastern Miles points.

In total, China Eastern has 4 types of award charts:

  • Domestic China flights operated by China Eastern and its subsidiaries
  • International flights operated by China Eastern and its subsidiaries
  • Domestic flights operated by partner airlines
  • International flights operated by partner airlines

Let’s take a look at some of these award charts.

China Eastern Airlines uses distance-based award pricing for its domestic flights and region-based award pricing for its international flights.

Also, China Eastern’s award chart covers its own flights, as well as flights on its 2 major subsidiaries: Shanghai Airlines and China United Airlines .

Here is China Eastern’s domestic award chart:

For example, if you booked a flight on Shanghai Airlines from Shanghai-Pudong (PVG) to Harbin (HRB), you would travel a flight distance of 1,653 kilometers.

Therefore, it would cost 16,000 Eastern Miles points for a one-way economy flight and 20,000 Eastern Miles points for a one-way business class flight.

Let’s take a look at Eastern Miles’s international award chart on China Eastern flights:

As you can see, China Eastern charges more points for a one-way ticket than half of a round-trip ticket, so you’ll want to book round-trip tickets in general for maximum value.

You might be wondering how you’ll know which countries/territories fall into each region.

The details are not readily accessible on Eastern Miles’s website, so we’ve put together the region definitions for you here:

If you put all of this together, we can conclude that, for example, a flight between Shanghai and India it would cost 55,000 for a round-trip economy ticket or 80,000 for a round-trip business class ticket.

China Eastern and its wholly-owned subsidiary Shanghai Airlines have been a full member of the SkyTeam alliance since 2011.

You can redeem Eastern Miles points on the following partners (non-SkyTeam partners included):

  • Aerolíneas Argentinas
  • China Airlines
  • Czech Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Garuda Indonesia
  • Japan Airlines (non-SkyTeam partner)
  • Kenya Airways
  • Middle East Airlines
  • Qantas (non-SkyTeam partner)
  • Vietnam Airlines

Eastern Miles is a bit quirky when it comes to partner award charts because it offers a partner award chart for domestic flights.

What this means is that you can enjoy slightly better pricing for domestic flights wholly within certain countries.

Check out the partner award chart for domestic flights below:

It’s a bit confusing at first glance to interpret this chart. Let’s do a few sample exercises!

If you wanted to book a one-way domestic Russia flight from Moscow (SVO) to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (PKC), you’d pay 20,000 Eastern Miles points in economy and 40,000 in business.

Similarly, if you booked a one-way flight between Taiwan (TPE/TSA) and Shanghai (PVG/SHA), you’d pay 15,000 miles in economy and 30,000 miles in business.

Lastly, if you wanted to book a domestic flight from Seoul (ICN/GMP) to Busan (PUS), you’d pay 15,000 miles in economy and 30,000 miles in business. This flight falls under “All other countries.”

The very last award chart that Eastern Miles employs is a region-based partner award chart, valid for international flights.

The prices below are for one-way tickets (click image to enlarge):

Eastern Miles Partner Award Chart

As a reminder, the region definitions are in the previous section about China Eastern award charts, so you’ll want to refer to that same chart.

For example, if you wanted to book an international flight on Middle East Airlines from Beirut (BEY) to Accra (ACC), you’d be redeeming 40,000 points in economy or 70,000 points in business class to fly from the Middle East, North Africa region to the Central Africa, South Africa region.

In general, there are 5 main ways you can make an award reservation:

  • China Eastern website
  • China Eastern service office
  • China Eastern service hotline
  • China Eastern app
  • China Eastern mobile website

You’ll probably be making a majority of your reservations through the service hotline over the phone because the website doesn’t offer the full picture when it comes to award availability.

Plus, the website is very clunky in general. The only time you might be able to use the website is if you’re booking an award ticket on a China Eastern-operated flight.

Technically speaking, China Eastern says you can’t call the service hotline for award upgrades or partner award tickets, according to its chart below:

If you’re wondering where this information can be found, you can find it via the Eastern Miles membership handbook .

As a reminder, it may be difficult to search for partner award availability because the search engine is known to produce invalid results.

The China Eastern global hotline is reachable at +86-21-2069-5530 .

To redeem Eastern Miles points, you’ll need to set up a Consumption Password  via the mobile app or a service center. After that, you must also upload or provide valid ID documents to redeem points for other beneficiaries, such as family members.

China Eastern Eastern Miles has some unique award ticket rules.

To start, one-way redemptions on China Eastern are more expensive than 50% of a round-trip redemption. This is not the case with partner airlines, as one-way award tickets are exactly 50% of the price of a round-trip award ticket.

One-way tickets are permitted in addition to round-trip tickets. Open-jaws are allowed only if the open-jaw takes place within the same region.

China Eastern only allows 2 types of changes for award tickets: date and time changes .

As a result, you’ll definitely want to make sure that the passenger’s information and the flight information are 100% correct before booking your award ticket because  you cannot cancel your ticket voluntarily and get your miles back unless you’re an Eastern Miles Platinum member .

If you’re an Eastern Miles Platinum member, you can voluntarily refund your award ticket and get your points back with no fee.

That means if you make a mistake as small as misspelling the passenger’s name, you’ll lose all of your points !

Your award tickets are valid 1 year from the date of issuance.

Also, upgrade and award redemptions will cost the same for children and infants as they will for adults.

Interestingly, you are actually limited in the number of  China Eastern business and first class flights you can book per year for other travelers besides yourself .

Specifically, you can only book up to 4 one-way or 2 round-trip award tickets in China Eastern business or first class between China and Europe, the South Pacific, North America, South Africa, or Hawaii.

Except for Japan Airlines, you can book mixed carrier awards including mixing China Eastern with other partners.

When booking Japan Airlines award flights, you can only book round-trip itineraries — one-way trips are not allowed.

You can only perform 1-class upgrades on 4-class cabins (economy, premium economy, business, and first). The only 2-class upgrades you can make are economy-to-business upgrades (skipping premium economy).

You can perform 2-class upgrades on 3-class cabins (economy, premium economy, and first). For example, you can upgrade from economy all the way up to first class.

Eastern Miles points are nearly impossible to earn with U.S. credit card spending, but they are incredibly easy to earn in China.

This probably makes a lot of sense because China Eastern is a Chinese airline, and China has a ton of banks where you can get rewarded for credit card spending.

The most practical way for those based in the U.S. to earn Eastern Miles points is by crediting your partner award travel (including on Delta Air Lines) to Eastern Miles. Remember that you can also earn Eastern Miles on non-SkyTeam partner flights such as Japan Airlines and Qantas.

Also, you can accumulate Eastern Miles points by booking hotel stays, tour packages, and even blogging on Flyertea, China’s largest frequent flyer social media website.

The 18 Best Ways to Use Your Eastern Miles Points

As we’ve seen above, there’s a lot to keep track of when it comes to a niche program like Eastern Miles.

However, the most important tidbit you’ll need to keep in mind is the fact that Eastern Miles points redemptions are in  kilometers , not miles.

This means that many redemptions will  seem expensive , but upon conversion by dividing by approximately 1.61, you’ll find that many of these redemptions are extremely attractive, often beating out frequent flyer programs like Air France/KLM Flying Blue and Delta SkyMiles .

For example, let’s say a particular flight redemption will cost around 50,000 Eastern Miles points. When you convert these points to miles, it’s roughly equal to 31,000 equivalent miles.

If you try to compare it to how much Flying Blue would charge, for example, and you find out that Flying Blue charges 40,000 miles for the same ticket, you can conclude that using Eastern Miles points is actually a superb deal!

This will give you a baseline to compare how good an Eastern Miles points redemption is. By converting Eastern Miles points from kilometers to miles, you will be able to compare loyalty program redemptions side-by-side.

Let’s get into the top ways to redeem Eastern Miles points!

China Eastern business class

One of the best ways you can redeem Eastern Miles points is on upgrades aboard China Eastern.

Why? China Eastern offers some amazing deals on paid economy tickets. On top of this, you can redeem a reasonable number of miles for international upgrades, particularly from economy to business class.

Here is the domestic award upgrade chart:

Here is the international award upgrade chart:

For international flights, particularly between the U.S. and China, the most realistic fare class you’ll be upgraded from is an N-class ticket . If you’re lucky enough to find an R-, S-, or Z-class ticket on your route, consider yourself lucky.

Here is great sample redemption you can make:

  • Los Angeles (LAX) – Shanghai (PVG) one-way in business class upgraded from an N-class economy ticket for $820 + 55,000 China Eastern Miles points (cash value = $9,000+)
  • Los Angeles (LAX) – Shanghai (PVG) one-way in first class upgraded from an I-class business ticket for $2,260 + 44,000 China Eastern Miles points (cash value = $14,935)

Depending on what your exact redemption is, you can get a whopping 15 to 30 cents per Eastern Miles point in value by leveraging upgrades!

Hot Tip: One caveat to remember if you’re performing searches: due to Chinese flight restrictions from COVID-19, China Eastern is proactively restricting many flights to only sell the most expensive fare classes. Therefore, it is temporarily more difficult to find discounted or deeply discounted economy tickets to upgrade.

China Eastern first class

China Eastern first class is one of our choices for the best first class seats for couples . Why? Because it is one of the only airlines in the world besides Qatar Airways , Singapore Airlines, and Etihad Airways that offers double beds .

This rare first class hard product is available on 777-300ER aircraft, and award availability is  very generous .

Plus, the cash prices for this ticket are egregious — expect to pay nearly $10,000 each way if you wanted to use cash!

Luckily, Eastern Miles offers a nice way to redeem points for a double bed first class seat with excellent award availability. Although the soft product won’t be as polished as airlines like Singapore Airlines, it’s still an excellent, comfortable way to go if you value an airline’s hard product the most.

In this case, an excellent sweet spot is a one-way first class flight between Shanghai and Europe that can be booked for as little as 135,000 points one-way or 240,000 points round-trip.

Here are some great sample redemptions you can make:

  • Shanghai (PVG) – London-Heathrow (LHR) one-way in China Eastern first class for 135,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$274 in taxes and fees
  • Shanghai (PVG) – Paris (CDG) round-trip in China Eastern first class for 240,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$669 in taxes and fees

Korean Air A321neo Prestige 2

Korean Air is one of China Eastern’s most useful partners. Korean Air offers many convenient itineraries to the South Pacific via Seoul-Incheon (ICN).

You can handily redeem miles for Korean Air business class , though first class is not an option anymore.

Korean Air’s business class product, particularly the Prestige Suites, which are Apex Suites with direct aisle access and lie-flat seats, are highly rated. Plus, the service quality of Korean Air is top-notch.

  • Atlanta (ATL) – Seoul-Incheon (ICN) – Sydney (SYD) one-way in Korean Air business class for 140,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$296 in taxes and fees
  • Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) – Seoul-Incheon (ICN) – Auckland (AKL) one-way in Korean Air business class for 140,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$295 in taxes and fees
  • San Francisco (SFO) – Seoul-Incheon (ICN) – Brisbane (BNE) one-way in Korean Air business class for 140,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$308 in taxes and fees

Hot Tip: If you are willing to book flights in the reverse direction departing from the South Pacific, you can save around $200 in fuel surcharges!

Air France new business class

Air France’s brand new A350 aircraft features Zodiac Optima seats, and they are very similar to the seats you will find on United Polaris class, for instance.

These exceptional seats can be had on many Air France routes between Paris and India. And when you consider the Eastern Miles award pricing here, you’ll find that the points cost is quite attractive!

On Air France business class flights between Europe and the Caribbean, you will pay 90,000 Eastern Miles points, which is roughly equal to 55,900 frequent flyer miles.

For comparison, Delta SkyMiles charges around 75,000 miles, and Flying Blue charges around 67,500 miles!

  • Paris (CDG) – Delhi (DEL) one-way in Air France’s new A350-900 business class for 90,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$325 in taxes and fees
  • Paris (CDG) – Mumbai (BOM) one-way in Air France’s new A350-900 business class for 90,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$325 in taxes and fees

Alitalia 777-200 business class

ITA, known formerly as Alitalia, is Italy’s flag carrier. This SkyTeam alliance partner offers convenient nonstop flights to Rome (FCO) and an overall solid experience.

One of the best ways to get 20+ hours in business class luxury is to redeem 130,000 Eastern Miles points for ITA one-way business class to the U.S. from Central and South Africa via Rome!

You’ll want to book flights departing from Africa to save the most on fuel surcharges because you’ll find total taxes and fees of nearly $1,000 if you depart from the U.S.!

Here is a great example route you can book:

  • Johannesburg (JNB) – Rome (FCO) – Los Angeles (LAX) one-way in ITA business class for 130,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$320 in taxes and fees

Japan Airlines first class

One of the most aspirational first class flights you can book is Japan Airlines first class. This first class product is famous not only for its spaciousness and plush comfort but also for its superb food and beverage program and incredible service.

Ordinarily, these redemptions are available to Oneworld airline partners only — however, Eastern Miles enables you to redeem miles for this magnificent first class product.

One of the nicest Japan Airlines first class redemptions you can make is on routes between Japan and Europe. You can only redeem Eastern Miles points for round-trip Japan Airlines first class flights, so you’ll pay around 270,000 Eastern Miles points (135,000 points each way).

This is approximately equivalent to 168,000 frequent flyer miles. And this is an excellent deal compared to other loyalty programs — for example, American Airlines AAdvantage charges 180,000 miles round-trip or 90,000 miles one-way!

  • Tokyo-Haneda (HND) – London-Heathrow (LHR) round-trip in Japan Airlines first class for 270,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$329 in taxes and fees
  • Tokyo-Haneda (HND) – Paris (CDG) round-trip in Japan Airlines first class for 270,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$173 in taxes and fees

KLM economy class

Flights between Europe and the Middle East or North Africa are often expensive, and nonstop flights on these same routes are often egregiously pricey!

When you consider the fact that many of these flights are less than 6 hours and can cost $600+ for one-way economy, you’ll probably want to seek out ways to redeem points to offset these costs.

And though these redemptions aren’t quite as glamorous as ultra-long-haul first class tickets, they will still save you a bundle of money.

  • Amsterdam (AMS) – Dubai (DXB) one-way in KLM economy for 35,000 points + ~$169 in taxes and fees
  • Paris (CDG) – Riyadh (RUH) one-way in Saudia economy for 35,000 points + ~$224 in taxes and fees
  • Rome (FCO) – Cairo (CAI) one-way in ITA economy for 35,000 points + ~$79 in taxes and fees

XiamenAir 787-9 business class

XiamenAir is one of the smaller Chinese airlines, but don’t let that deter you because it is known to be the best all-around business class product you can get from a Chinese airline.

You’ll enjoy reverse herringbone seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, tasty Asian food, and a comfortable soft product experience.

Additionally, XiamenAir offers nonstop flights between Australia and China at a competitive price: 90,000 points one-way in business class.

Here is a great sample redemption you can make:

  • Xiamen (XMN) – Sydney (SYD) one-way in XiamenAir business class for 90,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$149 in taxes and fees

Aeromexico 787-9 business class

Aeroméxico is Mexico’s flag carrier airline. Also a member of the SkyTeam alliance, it is a crucial player in the global route network connecting Latin America to the rest of the world.

Its business class product gets solid marks all around, especially on the newer 787-9 aircraft featuring reverse herringbone business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration.

These planes are typically reserved for flights to major Spanish-speaking cities such as Madrid (MAD) or major Latin American hubs such as São Paulo (GRU), but you’ll also find Aeroméxico’s 787-9 flown frequently to Seoul-Incheon (ICN).

You’ll also note that Aeroméxico’s longest routes are to North Asia , so it’d be an excellent opportunity to savor Aeroméxico’s best business class for a great deal — 110,000 Eastern Miles points one-way.

Hot Tip: If you are on the lookout for Aeroméxico’s top business class product, be sure to seek out the 787-9, instead of the 787-8, because the latter has a 2-2-2 configuration with Aerospace Diamond seats.

  • Mexico City (MEX) – Seoul-Incheon (ICN) one-way in Aeroméxico business class for 110,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$203 in taxes and fees
  • Mexico City (MEX) – Tokyo-Narita (NRT) one-way in Aeroméxico business class for 110,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$292 in taxes and fees

This carrier offers reverse herringbone seats, great amenities, and comfortable bedding for a comfortable journey down under to the South Pacific.

  • Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) – Sydney (SYD) one-way in Vietnam Airlines business class for 80,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$67 in taxes and fees

Saudia Airlines business class

Although Saudi Arabia isn’t a top tourist destination globally, it’s starting to grow rapidly. Whether you’re in Saudi Arabia for pleasure or business, you will get incredible value booking Saudia business class with Eastern Miles points.

One of the biggest sweet spots is for flights between the Middle East and Europe. One-way business class flights between Saudi Arabia and major Western European cities are hugely expensive when you consider that flights are typically shorter than 6 hours!

It’s best to redeem points for these flights because award availability is generous. Plus, Saudia offers comfortable reverse herringbone seats for your journey.

Just keep in mind that Saudia is a dry airline, which means it does not serve alcohol .

  • Jeddah (JED) – Frankfurt (FRA)  one-way in Saudia business class for 55,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$199 in taxes and fees (cash value = $1,500+)
  • Jeddah (JED) – Milan-Malpensa (MXP) one-way in Saudia business class for 55,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$133 in taxes and fees (cash value = $1,500+)
  • Riyadh (RUH) – London-Heathrow (LHR)  one-way in Saudia business class for 55,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$199 in taxes and fees (cash value = $2,500+)

Air France economy

Another great way to save big on cash when redeeming Eastern Miles points is to book intra-Europe point-to-point flights on SkyTeam airlines.

In general, hub-to-hub flights (i.e. Paris to Amsterdam) are significantly cheaper than point-to-point flights (i.e. Nice to Moscow).

You can use this fact to save big on intra-Europe flights. Here are some great sample redemptions you can make:

  • Amsterdam (AMS) – St. Petersburg (LED)  one-way in KLM economy class for 25,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$67 in taxes and fees
  • Athens (ATH) – Paris (CDG) one-way in Air France economy class for 25,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$51 in taxes and fees

China Airlines A350 Business Class Cabin View

China Airlines is one of the most elegant airlines you can fly in business class. The Taiwanese flag carrier receives high marks all around for its phenomenal business class product boasting velvety reverse herringbone seats, amenities from The North Face, and a remarkable quality of service.

Plus, China Airlines offers lots of well-timed connecting flights to Southeast Asia from the U.S. As a result, you can fly on one-stop itineraries via Taipei (TPE) to most of Southeast Asia without wasting too much time in layovers.

Delta One Suites A350-900 Sitting Photo

If you are lucky enough to find availability, you can redeem 90,000 Eastern Miles points for a one-way ticket between the U.S. and Europe in Delta One Suites.

Here are some great example redemptions you can make:

  • Detroit (DTW) – Amsterdam (AMS) one-way in Delta One Suites for 90,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$729 in taxes and fees

  • Nairobi (NBO) – Johannesburg (JNB) one-way in Kenya Airways lie-flat 787 business class for 40,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$108 in taxes and fees

  • Nairobi (NBO) – Yaounde (NSI) one-way in Kenya Airways business class for 40,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$108 in taxes and fees

Garuda Indonesia business class

Garuda Indonesia is the flag carrier of Indonesia, home to the fourth-largest population in the world after China, India, and the U.S.

This airline offers one of the rarest first class products in the world, and it’s easy to see why because it also happens to be one of the best first class products.

Unfortunately, first class is extremely difficult to book for U.S. residents, but business class is much more attainable.

In particular, redeeming Eastern Miles points for Garuda Indonesia business class is one of our favorite ways to use your points because it enables you to book 7 hours of luxury for as little as 55,000 points!

  • Seoul-Incheon (ICN) – Bali (DPS) one-way in Garuda Indonesia business class for 55,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$25 in taxes and fees
  • Seoul-Incheon (ICN) – Jakarta (CGK) one-way in Garuda Indonesia business class for 55,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$25 in taxes and fees
  • Tokyo-Haneda (HND) – Jakarta (CGK)  one-way in Garuda Indonesia business class for 55,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$45 in taxes and fees
  • Tokyo-Narita (NRT) – Bali (DPS) one-way in Garuda Indonesia business class for 55,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$45 in taxes and fees

Aeroflot A350 suite

Aeroflot’s newest long-haul aircraft is the A350 — a widebody aircraft equipped with brand-new suites in business class! These suites feature sliding doors, fully lie-flat seats, a side table, lots of storage space, and technologically-advanced amenities.

And although Aeroflot will continue to add A350s to its fleet over time as new planes get built, you’ll still find that these are quite rare. If you follow closely, you’ll find that this aircraft is usually flown to Western Europe from Moscow.

Currently, this is the only flight offering the A350 suites:

  • Moscow (SVO) – London-Heathrow (LHR) one-way in Aeroflot’s new A350 business class suites for 40,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$131 in taxes and fees

Qantas economy

Our last redemption is for Qantas’ domestic economy flights. Some Australian point-to-point routes are very expensive when paying with cash, but redeeming 20,000 Eastern Miles points each way is an excellent opportunity to deflect up to $450 in costs per ticket!

  • Adelaide (ADL) – Darwin (DRW) one-way in Qantas economy for 20,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$86 in taxes and fees (cash value = $450)
  • Brisbane (BNE) – Perth (PER) one-way in Qantas economy for 20,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$90 in taxes and fees (cash value = $300)
  • Melbourne (MEL) – Broome (BME) one-way in Qantas economy for 20,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$92 in taxes and fees (cash value = $670)
  • Perth (PER) – Hobart (HBA) one-way in Qantas economy for 20,000 Eastern Miles points + ~$80 in taxes and fees (cash value = $350)

There are tons of high-value ways to redeem Eastern Miles points. And although the policies are quite restrictive, you’ll definitely come out ahead if you know what awards to look out for.

You can redeem points for SkyTeam alliance flights, as well as flights on Japan Airlines and Qantas!

Eastern Miles points are counted in kilometers, so the number of points you’ll redeem will be higher than other loyalty programs — however, it’s also much easier to accrue points since you’ll be earning points based on flight distances in kilometers.

Hopefully, you found this comprehensive guide useful to help you make the most of your Eastern Miles points!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is china eastern so cheap.

China Eastern often offers exceptional pricing on flights, especially you’re booking a connecting flight, instead of a nonstop flight.

In short, China Eastern takes advantage of exceptionally low operating costs. Thanks to a large population base to appeal to, China Eastern can make a lot of money on volume sales. China Eastern also often offers fewer amenities than airlines like Emirates and Singapore Airlines.

What alliance is China Eastern part of?

China Eastern is a part of the SkyTeam alliance that includes Delta Air Lines, Air France, KLM, and more.

Is China Eastern better than Air China?

China Eastern is similar to Air China, although the products offer different features. For example, China Eastern’s business class hard product mostly consists of reverse herringbone seats or Vantage XL staggered seats, both of which are considered to be industry-leading. Air China still offers lie-flat 2-2-2 Aerospace Diamond seats that don’t guarantee direct aisle access at all seats.

Does China Eastern serve food?

China Eastern serves food on all long-haul flights, even in economy. As a reminder, China Eastern is a full-service legacy carrier, so you’ll enjoy a lot of the same perks you would on American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines.

Does China Eastern have Wi-Fi?

China Eastern offers Wi-Fi, but there have been accounts of the Wi-Fi not working on flights. This is also highly aircraft dependent, but don’t expect to have blazing-fast Wi-Fi on your Chinese Eastern flight, especially on the older aircraft.

Can you smoke on China Eastern Airlines?

No, you may not smoke on China Eastern Airlines. As is the case with almost every single airline in the world, passengers are not allowed to smoke at any point during the flight.

Is China Eastern reliable?

China Eastern is highly reliable and safe. The airline has made significant strides in improving the in-flight experience, as well as its operational excellence.

The 5 Worst Ways to Redeem Travel Credit Card Rewards

I t's exciting to start using travel credit cards . Most of these cards have big welcome bonuses, so it probably won't take long before you have a large number of points or miles amassed. When you're ready to redeem those rewards, you'll have more options to do so than you would with a cash back card.

Here's the tricky part: They aren't all good options. Some of the ways you can use your rewards offer far less value than others. If you choose wrong, you won't get nearly as much from your points. Before you do anything with your travel rewards, you should know about which redemption options to avoid.

Featured offer: save money while you pay off debt with one of these top-rated balance transfer credit cards

1. Paying with points when shopping online

Some travel cards give you the option of using your rewards at checkout with online merchants. For example, you may be able to connect your rewards to Amazon and pay with points there. PayPal is another common option -- you may have the option of paying with points at stores that offer PayPal checkout.

This might seem convenient, but it's a bad deal. Points are typically worth much less this way. For example, with Chase Ultimate Rewards points , you can get $0.0125 to $0.015 per point when you use them for travel bookings, depending on which Chase card you have. At that value, 100,000 points would be worth $1,250 to $1,500.

You can also pay with Chase points at checkout, but you only get a value of $0.008 per point. Those same 100,000 points would be worth $800, so you'd lose $450 to $700 in value.

2. Getting cash back

Most travel cards let you turn your points into cash back as a statement credit on your credit card. Once again, you're usually giving up value when you do this. For example, with American Express Membership Rewards points , you only get $0.006 per point on cash back redemptions.

If you want to earn cash back by using a credit card, then it's not a good idea to open a travel card. Check out cash back credit cards instead.

3. Buying merchandise or gift cards

Your travel card's rewards program may include a shopping portal where you can use your points to buy merchandise, such as Apple products. And most rewards programs give you the option of buying gift cards with your points.

The problem is, you guessed it, value -- or lack thereof. This is another type of redemption where you don't get much for your points. The normal rate is $0.006 to $0.01 per point, depending on the card you have.

4. Transfers to a travel partner before knowing what you want to book

Many of the most popular travel credit cards let you transfer points to airline and hotel partners. For example, Chase points are transferable to over a dozen partners, including United Airlines and Hyatt Hotels.

Transfers are one of the best ways to use travel points. It's often possible to get $0.02 to $0.03 per point or more this way. I almost exclusively transfer my travel points.

But transfers are irreversible, so you should only transfer your points when you know exactly how you'll use them. Don't transfer 50,000 points to United because you think you'll fly with that airline at some point in the future. Do it if you've already found airfare you want to book with United, and it costs 50,000 miles.

5. Hoarding them

Alright, this isn't exactly a way to redeem travel rewards. It's the opposite. But it's worth mentioning, because it's another common mistake.

Some people are great at earning travel points, but not so great at using them. They either don't end up traveling all that often, or they want to save those points in hopes of eventually using them for some amazing deal.

Travel rewards don't do you any good when they're sitting around unused. It's not like money in a high-yield savings account earning interest. They're just points, and they only have value when you use them for travel.

The most important rule: Use your travel rewards for traveling

If there's one thing to remember, it's that you'll get the most out of travel rewards when you use them for travel redemptions. That usually means either using them to book travel through the card issuer's travel portal or transferring them to travel partners. You can safely ignore non-travel options, such as paying with points at checkout or getting cash back. They won't get you nearly as much bang for your buck -- or in this case, your points.

Alert: highest cash back card we've seen now has 0% intro APR until 2025

This credit card  is not just good – it's so exceptional that our experts use it personally. It  features a 0% intro APR for 15 months, a cash back rate of up to 5%, and all somehow for no annual fee!

I’m a U.S. citizen who lives most of the year in Canada. But when I pick up coffee or purchase subway fare in my adopted city of Toronto, I often find myself habitually turning to the same few American credit cards I’ve owned and used for years.

Using my American cards while living across the border helps me maintain my U.S. credit history. Plus, I’ve found that they offer more value than comparably-priced Canadian cards.

I’m especially likely to pull out my Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card because it offers ample points without requiring me to think too hard about different rewards categories.

Instead, I earn the same unlimited 1.5 points per $1 on purchases, which is a rewards rate I’ve so far been unable to match with a no-annual-fee Canadian card.

Aren’t sure how to choose a credit card? Read our guide on how to pick the best credit card for you.

In Canada, rewards cards without annual fees are typically less generous –– especially when it comes to miscellaneous spending. For example, my CIBC Dividend® Visa* Card * The information for the CIBC Dividend® Visa* Card has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. offers 2% cash back on groceries, 1% cash back on eligible gas, electric vehicle charging, transportation, dining and recurring payments, 0.5% cash on everything else.

There are no foreign transaction fees on my Bank of America Travel Rewards card either. So I don’t have to sweat over 1% to 3% in foreign transaction fees that can quickly add up over multiple transactions.

However, the number one reason I turn so regularly to my Bank of America Travel Rewards card is its convenience.

After nearly 20 years of credit card experience, I’ve learned that I get more value out of low-maintenance cards that require minimal time and attention.

Editor’s take

  • 15 billing cycles of intro APR financing on both new purchases and on qualifying balance transfers.
  • Earn an unlimited 1.5 points per $1 on purchases.
  • No foreign transaction fees so it’s a good choice to use abroad.
  • Points must be redeemed towards eligible travel and dining purchases for maximum redemption value.
  • You can’t transfer rewards to airline or hotel partners.

Card details

  • Earn unlimited 1.5 points per $1 spent on all purchases, with no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees and your points don’t expire as long as your account remains open.
  • Use your card to book your trip how and where you want – you’re not limited to specific websites with blackout dates or restrictions.
  • Redeem points for a statement credit to pay for travel or dining purchases, such as flights, hotel stays, car and vacation rentals, baggage fees, and also at restaurants including takeout.
  • 0% Intro APR for 15 billing cycles for purchases, and for any balance transfers made in the first 60 days. After the Intro APR offer ends, a Variable APR that’s currently 19.24% – 29.24% will apply. A 3% Intro balance transfer fee will apply for the first 60 days your account is open. After the Intro balance transfer fee offer ends, the fee for future balance transfers is 4%.
  • If you’re a Bank of America Preferred Rewards® member, you can earn 25%-75% more points on every purchase. That means instead of earning an unlimited 1.5 points for every $1, you could earn 1.87-2.62 points for every $1 you spend on purchases.
  • Contactless Cards – The security of a chip card, with the convenience of a tap.
  • This online only offer may not be available if you leave this page or if you visit a Bank of America financial center. You can take advantage of this offer when you apply now.

Even abroad, Bank of America Travel Rewards are simple to earn, fast to redeem

In my experience, the Bank of America Travel Rewards Visa is especially easy to use in Canada compared with other American cards I own since it comes equipped with contactless technology (which was popular here long before it took off in the U.S.), and Visa is widely accepted.

I rarely use my Discover it® Miles , by contrast, because I’ve struggled to find vendors in Canada who will accept it.

Since I earn the same rewards rate with every purchase on my Bank of America Travel Rewards card, I don’t have to track spending bonuses or worry about the types of foreign purchases that will qualify for a higher rate.

Even better, the rewards I earn from my Bank of America Travel Rewards card are so easy to redeem I can do it within minutes online simply by checking some boxes next to eligible travel and dining purchases. Within days, a statement credit then posts to my account.

I also can book rewards travel from whatever site I want to, and I don’t have to plan around blackout dates or other travel restrictions.

For a working mom like me who can barely carve out time to book travel, let alone spend hours searching for a suitable rewards flight, that extra layer of simplicity is important.

I also have ADHD, so navigating a complicated rewards scheme that requires lots of extra steps or tracking can sometimes feel overwhelming. Simpler rewards programs are easier for me to stick to long term and are overall a better fit for my neurodivergent brain. Plus, I’m more likely to use my rewards if they’re easy to redeem.

On the downside, the redemption options for the Bank of America Travel Rewards card are limited: to earn a 1:1 return on your rewards spending, you need to redeem your points for travel or dining.

You can trade in your points for a gift card, but your points will be worth less than a cent each. The redemption rate for cash is even stingier.

Luckily, there are plenty of purchases that count as travel and dining, including public transit and parking fees, bridge and highway tolls, tourist attractions such as aquariums and zoos, fast food, coffee shops, bars and taverns.

Bank of America also gives you up to a year to redeem your points before a qualifying purchase is no longer eligible. So you have some time to build up your rewards.

How I use American credit while living in another country

In my case, I’ve managed to seamlessly transition to living much of the year in Canada without giving up my American credit history because I still have a valid U.S. address and phone number and maintain a presence in both countries.

I also happened to own most of my credit cards well before I moved to Canada in 2018. However, I have successfully applied for new cards in the years since and had them sent to my American address.

Expats who don’t maintain a valid U.S. address may need to work with a bank or credit union that specializes in serving U.S. citizens who live or travel extensively abroad. But for me, it’s been relatively easy, and my Bank of America Travel Rewards card fits my needs perfectly.

If you want to travel in style, few cards offer as much value as the Capital One Venture X Rewards credit card .

At first glance, the card’s annual fee might seem steep. But the card's benefits — if used effectively — are worth more than the annual fee. And unlike some of their competitors, the benefits aren’t hard to use.

From its generous welcome bonus and lucrative rewards structure to its extensive lounge access and valuable travel protections, Venture X is one of the best travel credit cards.

Our review will explore the features, perks, and potential drawbacks of the Capital One Venture X Credit Card , helping you determine if it's the right choice.

Key takeaway:

The Venture X is an excellent option for jet setters who value luxury perks and can use the Capital One Travel portal. While the card has a high annual fee, the sign-up bonus and travel credits can more than offset the cost for those who travel often.

  • Generous sign-up bonus of 75,000 miles
  • $300 annual travel credit
  • Unlimited lounge access
  • 10X miles on hotels and rental cars, 5X on flights booked through Capital One Travel
  • 2X miles on all other purchases
  • Up to $100 TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credit
  • High annual fee of $395
  • Redemption inflexibility with some travel partners
  • Points value can fluctuate

Capital One Venture X benefits

The Capital One Venture X Rewards benefits are generous and easy to use. Its annual fee is also much lower than rival premium travel credit cards.

“I think the Venture X has generated excitement among consumers, even those typically averse to annual fees, because the Venture X feels like having a few travel cards rolled into one,” says Zac Hood, founder of Travel Freely. “Because of its straightforward earning, redeeming, and simplified but valuable perks and benefits, it’s one of the simplest ultra-premium cards to understand.”

Here’s a closer look at some of the Venture X’s benefits.

Sign-up bonus

One of the most attractive features of the Capital One Venture X Credit Card is its generous sign-up bonus.

New cardholders can earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

The bonus is worth up to $750 in travel when redeemed through Capital One Travel. This offers a significant boost to your travel rewards right from the start.

If that wasn’t enough, you’ll earn a 10,000-mile bonus every account anniversary — worth $100.

Whether you're planning a luxurious getaway or simply looking to offset the cost of your next trip, the welcome bonus can help you reach your travel goals faster.

Earning rewards

The Capital One Venture X Rewards offers a straightforward and rewarding earning structure:

  • Earn 10X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel
  • Earn 5X miles on flights booked through Capital One Travel
  • Earn 2X miles on all other purchases

This earning potential allows you to quickly accumulate miles on everyday spending. It can be particularly lucrative for those who frequently book travel through Capital One Travel.

Keep in mind that the best earning rates — 10X miles on hotels and rental cars and 5X miles on flights) — require you to book through Capital One Travel.

Travel perks and credits

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card also offers a suite of valuable travel perks. Cardholders receive a $300 annual travel credit for bookings made through Capital One Travel. This effectively lowers the card’s annual fee to $95.

Cardholders are also eligible for an up to $100 TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credit every four years.

Other notable travel perks include:

  • Trip cancellation and interruption insurance
  • Primary rental car insurance
  • Travel accident insurance
  • Premier Collection perks and credits for hotel bookings
  • No foreign transaction fees

Lounge access

Cardholders enjoy unlimited access to Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass lounges worldwide. With over 1,300 Priority Pass lounges across the globe, this benefit can significantly enhance your travel experience.

Capital One Lounges offer a premium lounge experience, with amenities like comfortable seating, complimentary food and beverages, high-speed Wi-Fi, and more.

Redeeming Capital One Venture X miles

One of the most valuable ways to redeem rewards is to book travel through the Capital One Travel portal. This option allows for more flexibility, as you can book flights, hotels, rental cars, and more using your miles. There are also no blackout dates, and miles never expire.

Cardholders can transfer miles to 15+ travel partners at a 1:1 ratio, including popular airlines like Air France/KLM Flying Blue, British Airways, and Singapore Airlines, as well as hotel chains like Wyndham and Choice Privileges.

Cardholders can redeem miles for cash back, gift cards, and other options. Remember that these redemption methods typically offer less value than travel redemptions.

How transferring miles work

Transferring miles to travel partners can be especially lucrative, helping you save hundreds (or even thousands) on travel.

Let’s see how transferring miles looks in practice. Let’s say you want to take a one-way flight to Dubai from New York City on June 8 via Turkish Airlines.

Depending on when you book, prices are around $1,000 for economy class and well over $4,000 for a business class seat.

transferring miles 1.webp

But, if you use transfer miles from your card directly to Turkish Airlines — a Capital One travel partner — you’d only need 78,000 miles for economy or 180,000 miles for business class ticket.

transferring miles 2.webp

Or, let’s say you want to fly from Los Angeles to Tokyo, Japan, in September. A normal one-way economy ticket would cost around $2,000-$3,000. A business-class ticket would cost upwards of $8,000.

Transferring miles 3.webp

But Air Canada — another Capital One travel partner — offers flights between North America and Pacific time zones for 45,000-80,000 miles for economy class and 75,000-175,000 miles for business class.

Finding deals with miles takes a little work, but the savings can be substantial. Also, ensure availability before transferring miles to a partner airline.

If you don’t want to take the time to transfer miles to travel partners, you can also redeem miles as a statement credit or use rewards to book travel directly with Capital One.

Capital One Venture X drawbacks

One of the main drawbacks of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is its $395 annual fee. While this fee is lower than other premium travel credit cards, it can still be a significant expense for some cardholders — especially those who don’t travel often.

But it’s to analyze the value of the card's benefits in relation to the annual fee. For example, the $300 annual travel credit effectively reduces the annual fee to $95 for those who can fully utilize the credit. The value of the lounge access, travel insurance, and other perks can easily exceed the remaining $95 for frequent travelers.

The Venture X’s annual fee is also much lower than other premium travel cards. For example, the Platinum Card® from American Express has an annual fee of $695. See rates and fees. The Chase Sapphire Reserve® has an annual fee of $550.

Redemption inflexibility

While Venture X offers a 1:1 transfer ratio to multiple travel partners, the value of these transferred miles can fluctuate based on the specific program and redemption. There’s often limited availability for award tickets, especially business class, which may not coincide with your travel plans.

Some travel partners may also have limited availability or blackout dates, restricting the usefulness of transferred miles.

Redeeming miles through the Capital One Travel portal may not always provide the best value, as prices on the portal may be higher than booking directly with airlines or hotels. That’s why you should carefully compare redemption options to ensure you get the most value from their miles.

Is the Capital One Venture X right for you?

While the Capital One Venture X Rewards offers impressive benefits, it's essential to consider your travel habits and spending to determine if the card is a good fit. The Venture X is an excellent choice for frequent travelers who:

  • Spend significantly on travel: If you frequently book flights, hotels, and rental cars, the Venture X's bonus categories and travel credits can provide significant value.
  • Value airport lounge access: If you appreciate the comfort and convenience of airport lounges, the Venture X's complimentary access to Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass lounges can enhance your travel experience.
  • Can use the card's annual travel credit: If you can easily use the $300 annual travel credit through Capital One Travel bookings, this effectively reduces the card's annual fee to just $95.

If you rarely travel or prefer to book directly with airlines and hotels, the Capital One Venture X card may not provide enough value to justify the annual fee. On the other hand, if you frequently book travel through the Capital One Travel portal and can take advantage of lounge access and other perks, the card can be a valuable addition to your wallet.

“For those who can utilize the Capital One Venture X card's numerous benefits, it provides excellent value despite the $395 annual fee,” says Hood. “The card effectively pays for itself with the $300 travel credit and 10,000 bonus miles [on each account anniversary].”

Alternatives to the Capital One Venture X card

The major alternatives to the Venture X card include The Platinum Card from American Express and the Chase Sapphire Reserve . Here’s a shortcut to how their fees, benefits, earning rates, and perks stack up.

The bottom line

The Capital One Venture X Rewards is a premium travel credit card with great rewards, benefits, and travel protections. The card's tiered rewards structure, which favors travel purchases made through the Capital One Travel portal, can also be lucrative for those who can utilize this booking method.

However, the high annual fee and potential redemption inflexibility may be drawbacks for some cardholders. It's essential to carefully consider your travel habits and preferences to determine if the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card fits you.
