The San Francisco Dinner Cruise

Tips for a magical evening on the bay.

A San Francisco dinner cruise is a super way to enjoy the beautiful sights of San Francisco Bay at night.

As the sun sets, the City glows, and the lights begin to sparkle on the bridges.

What could be better than enjoying a gourmet meal, sipping your drinks, and being treated to San Francisco's best light show?

California Hornblower yacht, at Pier 3 in San Francisco

The SF Dinner Cruise

The dinner cruise, actually a dinner/dance cruise, leaves from San Francisco every night.

Guests are served a multi-course dinner while the large yacht sails around San Francisco Bay, past Alcatraz and Sausalito, out under the Golden Gate Bridge (usually), and then under the Bay Bridge as well.

They recommend business attire or above (no jeans) for the cruise; the guests were generally nicely-dressed on our trip.

Getting on the boat...

All the San Francisco dinner cruises leave from Pier 3 on the Embarcadero.

Pier 3 , also known as Hornblower Landing , is right near the Ferry Building and has its own parking lot ($10 parking fee for dinner cruise passengers).

Hornblower Landing, Pier 3 San Francisco, San Francisco Belle at dock.

The dinner cruise leaves at 7:30 pm, but you can start boarding at 7:00. (Winter-time cruises board at 6:30 and sail at 7:00 pm.)

Tables are assigned by City Experiences, so there's no advantage in getting on early.

Before you embark, there's the photo op outside (an optional $20, which you can purchase on board later, two prints, plus digital versions).

When you enter the boat, the staff checks your tickets and tells you your assigned table number.

For summer cruises, it's still daylight when you board, so the first hour or so you have a clear view of the sights you're sailing past: Alcatraz, Sausalito, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

You'll get to admire both the daylight SF skyline and the twinkling night version during the cruise...nice!

The City Experiences Yachts

All the San Francisco dinner cruises are provided by the City Experiences company.

City Experiences is a respected company that has been doing bay cruises for decades, in San Francisco and other cities.

They are a first-class operation, and most people really enjoy their dinner cruise.

City Experiences is also the company that runs the ferries out to Alcatraz.

The dinner cruises, and their other bay excursions, depart from Pier 3, and their Alcatraz boats leave from Pier 33.

First off, we were greeted by our server and given flutes of champagne (unexpected). Our salads were already on our table and we settled in with the sourdough bread and butter to study the menu choices.

The menu changes frequently, but there are four choices of entrees, plus two soup and two dessert choices. You can also add on a couple of appetizers (for an extra fee). The food was delicious and the atmosphere was elegant.

The waves were kind of rough the night we went, and the boat was rocking a bit in port, to the extent we started to worry about seasickness! Fortunately, once we were underway, the rocking died down and we could enjoy eating;-)

The Dancing

During dinner, a pianist was playing soft jazz, but after dinner a DJ set up on the dance floor and was playing a collection of good dance music, with selections from the 60's, 70's, and 80's music, and later.

But we were a quiet bunch that night and he couldn't get anyone out on the dance floor! From what I've read on Yelp and other reviews, it's usually a livelier crowd. I think the DJ was a little frustrated with us.

Friday and Saturday nights there's a live band (and probably livelier dance action!).

The views are the best part, in my opinion. San Francisco Bay is so beautiful, it never disappoints.

Seeing the sun setting beyond the Golden Gate, getting a look at Alcatraz, and sailing under the bridges is amazing.

View of Alcatraz on San Francisco dinner cruise

We sailed under the eastern span of the Bay Bridge as the sun was going down, which gave the bridge a gorgeous golden glow.

It was still light enough to get a good look at Yerba Buena Island as we went by.

The Coast Guard maintains a post there with housing for it's members;  there are red-roofed buildings scattered here and there on the steep hillsides:  a cool place to live!

The small number of private citizens living on the island were evicted in 2015 to make way for hotel and condo developments, but nothing appears to be happening in that department.

This was a joint development plan with nearby Treasure Island; the flat island next door has had serious problems cleaning up the radioactive waste left by the Navy base that used to be there.

Sailing by Yerba Buena Island on SF dinner cruise.

Tip: after dinner is a good time to get out on deck and admire some of the best city and bridge views after dark.

You can walk along the sides of the yacht and to the front where the views are super.

It is usually pretty chilly and windy after dark, even in summer, so wrap up!

Night view of city skyline and Bay Bridge on San Francisco dinner cruise

The cruise route varies somewhat based on the weather and water conditions.

The typical route: about 75% of the time (they told me), the ship sails around the bay, passing Alcatraz and Angel Island, then goes out under the Golden Gate Bridge.

Next, it sails past the city skyline, and goes under the western span of the Bay Bridge, past Yerba Buena Island, down to AT&T park, then circles back and returns to Pier 3.

Something cool: if there's a baseball game at AT&T Park, the boat will stop in McCovey Cove near the stadium for a bit, so you can watch them play.

McCovey Cove is the turn-around point for the cruise.

Map of cruise route around bay on San Francisco dinner cruise

Each night, the captain checks with the harbor master before the cruise about the currents and wave conditions.

If the sea is too rough, they follow Plan B.

The night we went, they did Plan B: no trip out under the Golden Gate.

But we got the treat of sailing under the eastern span of the Bay Bridge (the one closest to Oakland).

On our trip, we sailed around the bay, past Alcatraz and Angel Island, then went under the eastern span of the Bay Bridge (beautiful), past Yerba Buena Island, then down the bay to the turn-around point near AT&T Park.

We returned sailing past the city all lit up and under the western span of the Bay Bridge (the lit-up portion).

Bay Bridge Light Show

The Bay Bridge has its own light show, created in 2013 by artist Leo Vilareal to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Bay Bridge.

You get a good look at it during the dinner cruise, especially when you go underneath it on the way back to the pier.

The work is called the Bay Lights.   It just got upgraded in September 2023 with double the number of lights.

Now, around 50,000 LED lights are attached to both sides of the western span of the bridge, and they blink in random patterns generated by a computer (they say the pattern never repeats).

It's a beautiful addition to an already beautiful bridge.

See Bay Bridge Light show for more info.

Booking a Dinner Cruise

The dinner cruise in San Francisco sails Wednesday through Sunday; the main difference is the Friday and Saturday night cruises are 3 hours, and the other days are 2.5 hours.

The window tables are better, no question, although the large windows in the dining area give you good visibility from all the tables.

We went on a Thursday night in summer and were assigned a window table because there weren't that many people on the boat that night.

Tip: you can reserve a window table when you book the cruise .

Now that I've been on the cruise, I would reserve a window table just in case; cozier, more romantic and the view is better.

They also have some fun add-ons at checkout: a "romance package" with champagne, flowers, chocolate and more, plus a couple of other upgrades.

Dining room on San Francisco dinner cruise

Prices: Tickets start at $140 per person; more on Friday and Saturday nights. Sometimes discounted to $112.

To check availability and book the cruise , see Dinner Cruise .

Getting to Pier 3

Public transportation.

BART: Pier 3 is only a short walk from the Ferry Building, so coming in on BART (get off at Embarcadero Station) puts you very close to Hornblower Landing.

Head towards the Ferry Building, then turn left.

From  Fisherman's Wharf: the  F-Line street car  that runs through Fisherman's Wharf stops near Pier 3 at Washington Street. See map of F-Line .

From Union Square: walk down Powell Street to Market Street. You can catch the F-line trolley on Market Street. Get off at Washington Street and walk back a little to Pier 3.

Map of Hornblower Landing, Pier 3, and Embarcadero BART

City Experiences has a convenient parking lot on Pier 3 . For guests on the dinner cruises, there is a flat fee of $10.

It's a safe place to park, since the lot has attendants present during the cruises. They don't do reservations, though.

It's unlikely to be full in the evening, but if that occurs, there are many other garages and lots in the area.

See my page on Embarcadero parking for a list, and descriptions of the best choices.

The Champagne Brunch Cruise

City Experiences also does a popular, weekend brunch cruise, with a lavish buffet and unlimited champagne and mimosas ;-)

They sail around the bay for two hours, past Alcatraz, Angel Island and Sausalito, and out under the Golden Gate Bridge.

This is a highly-rated cruise; looks like fun.  For more information, and booking , see Champagne Brunch Cruise .

San Francisco Night Tour Recommendations

Jill on a windy day at the Golden Gate Bridge

by Jill Loeffler   •

Updated: March 27, 2024

A San Francisco night tour is a great way to learn about the city after dark. You will find tours that range from chilling ghost walks to our famous sunset bay cruises to outings with food or drinks or both!

One of my favorites is the night tour of Alcatraz. On this tour, you get to see what it was like to be inside this former federal prison at night. Since they limit the number of people on the night tour, you have more opportunities to move around and get a feel for the stories and events that happened there.

Whether you set sail on the bay, head out on foot, or cruise around in an open-air bus, below you'll find top options for viewing the city lights and more.

San Francisco City Hall in Orange at Night

Disclaimer : I receive a small commission from some of the links on this page.

1. Alcatraz Night Tour

The most popular San Francisco night tour is the tour of Alcatraz. From my experience, this is the best way to see the real Alcatraz.

During the Alcatraz night tours, they limit the number of visitors. This allows them to open several additional areas of the prison for you to visit.

The last time we were there, they opened the upstairs hospital for visitors. This is where some of the most infamous prisoners of Alcatraz lived out their last days.

These tours are only available a few nights a week.

>> Learn more about the Alcatraz night tour

Insider's Tip : Don't forget to dress warm and bring along your jacket. Even in the summer, the nights here are cool and windy, so the extra layer will allow you to enjoy your San Francisco night tour even more!

2. Double Decker San Francisco Night Tour

If you want to sit back and relax as you soak in the lights of San Francisco, then this night tour is for you! Sit in the open-air top deck of this double decker bus as your driver takes you past all of our best sights.

The tour starts in Fisherman's Wharf. You will then cruise through North Beach ,  Chinatown , and Nob Hill . Admire the Bay Bridge lights as you cross over to Treasure Island for a photo stop. This tour also includes a ride through Union Square  and along the Embarcadero.

In 60 to 90 minutes, you will see most of what SF has to offer. This tour leaves at 6:30 pm. This means that during the winter months it will be after dark and during the summer the sun will still be shining.

>> Get more details about this popular tour and pick up tickets

3. San Francisco Bay Sunset or Twilight Cruise

This San Francisco night tour starts with a ride by Alcatraz Island. You will then cruise around  Angel Island and along the shores of Tiburon, Belvedere (an island with some of the most expensive homes in the US), and Sausalito .

You will watch the sunset or the evening lights as you cruise over to and under the Golden Gate Bridge . On your way back, you will ride along the shores of San Francisco while taking in the stunning skyline.

Food and drink are available for purchase onboard this two-hour tour.

This sunset cruise is available from April to November. In the winter months (November to March), this cruise still runs, but with some slight modifications. Since the sun goes down earlier, you will not catch the sunset, but you will still get to enjoy the beautiful scenery as you cruise around the bay.

>> San Francisco Bay Sunset Cruise

4. Sunset Photography Tour

Have you always wanted that perfect picture of the Golden Gate Bridge at night? If so, then this Sunset Photography Tour is your chance!

You will head out to several scenic locations, including Baker Beach and the Palace of Fine Arts near the Golden Gate Bridge. Bring along your camera and your expert photography guide will help you capture that picture-perfect moment in the golden hour.

This tour runs most afternoons (just before dusk) during the week and lasts for 2 to 3 hours.

>> Visit Viator to learn more and pick up your tickets today

5. Walk with Spirits: A Haunted Pub Crawl

This fun and unique tour is part bar-hop and part ghost tour. The spirits that you taste will be accompanied by spirits that have haunted SF's downtown streets since the Gold Rush era and the famous earthquake and fire of 1906.

Your guide will walk you through Jackson Square, "Devil's Acre," and the Barbary Coast, and finally you'll end up in Chinatown.

Along the way, you'll enter four ghost-ridden bars, and hear about the tragic stories of the miners, sailors, and women who walked there before you.

This tour starts at 6:30 pm. It runs Fridays and/or Saturdays, depending on the week. Drinks are not included.

>> Find out more and make your reservation for this fun and spooky tour

6. True Crime Tales from the Haight

The Haight Ashbury District has a lively past. It was once home to the Summer of Love, tie dyed t-shirts, and music in the park.

It's also seen its share of serial killers, ghosts, and murders.

On this two-hour tour, you'll learn more about where Charles Mason and Jim Jones spent their time here. You'll also hear about the Zodiac Killer and the murders of Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk.

The guide for this tour is great and will also tell you more about famous musicians such as Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and others that used to live here.

This two-hour tour is offered most days of the week at 5 pm.

>> Get tickets for all dates on Get Your Guide

7. SF Ghosts: Gold and Ghouls Tour

Do you love to chase ghosts? On this one-hour, one-mile walking trek, you will visit eight spine-chilling, historical and haunted places in San Francisco. Some of the dark stories you'll hear date back to the Gold Rush days.

You will visit both the Nob Hill and Union Square Districts as you learn about infamous crimes that took place there. You'll hear about some of our famous haunted hotels, streets, and what really happened in the Sutter Building.

This tour is offered most nights of the week at 8 pm.

>> Get tickets for all dates on GetYourGuide

8. Luxury Dinner Cruise on the Bay

The San Francisco Dinner Dance Cruise is a long running bay cruise. This 2- to 2.5-hour San Francisco night tour includes a formal dinner with music.

During the cruise, you will get the chance to watch the sunset over the San Francisco Bay. You will also cruise past several popular SF attractions such as Alcatraz Island, Sausalito, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Throughout the tour, you will feast on a three-course meal made with local ingredients. The meal is prepared on board.

There will be DJ entertainment for dancing. Coffee, tea, and water are included. Alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.

The dinner dance cruise is available several nights a week throughout the year.

This is a more formal setting than the above-mentioned sunset cruise. The attire is nice, business casual dress. No jeans allowed.

>> Find tickets for upcoming cruises

9. North Beach: Gourmet Ghost Tour

Both a food and a ghost tour of one of SF's most iconic districts—what could be more fun for an evening walk around town?

This tour includes a full meal: an antipasto platter, a focaccia sandwich, pizza, and cannoli for dessert. You'll munch at different stops as you listen to the mysterious tales of North Beach's past and present.

Your encounters will include the resident ghosts at the San Remo Hotel to the landmark Washington Square, to the kidnapped sailors that haunt The Saloon to a modern ghost story at the Condor Club.

You'll even make a stop in the haunted labyrinth of streets that make up Chinatown.

>> Find available dates and tickets on Viator

10. City Sunset Tour by Vintage Sidecar

One of the coolest ways to check out the streets around San Francisco is on this City Sunset Tour by Vintage Sidecar.

You and others in your group will ride in sidecars as your drivers and guides show you interesting places all around the city.

You'll see parts of Union Square, Civic Center, and North Beach. My favorite part of the tour is riding down Lombard Street and checking out the sunset at the Golden Gate Bridge.

This tour is about two hours long and is a unique way to get to know SF!

Built by the U.S. government between 1903 and 1914, this 50-mile waterway linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans revolutionized shipping by creating an expedited route for the transportation of cargo and, ultimately, cruise ship passengers.

Panama Canal itineraries are offered by almost every cruise line. Thanks to a 2016 canal expansion project, a third set of locks can now accommodate larger vessels. It's possible to cruise the Panama Canal on ships of all sizes (from 148 guests to more than 3,000), on itineraries that range from a week in the sun to a six-month world cruise.

Some ships sail a full transit of the canal, from the Atlantic to the Pacific or vice versa. These one-way journeys between Miami or Fort Lauderdale and Los Angeles or San Diego visit ports in Central America, South America, Mexico and California.

Others sail only a partial transit, entering the locks from the Atlantic and cruising into Lake Gatun before turning around and exiting again. These itineraries, sailing round-trip from Florida ports, combine the canal experience with island hopping in the Caribbean.

The array of options means that a Panama Canal cruise experience is possible even if you're short on time or have a limited budget — and chances are high that your favorite cruise line offers one or more itineraries. Most sailings attract couples, typically retirees, but if the timing is right, a Panama Canal cruise can also be a great multigenerational experience.

Here are a dozen of the best Panama Canal cruises to consider.

Holland America's 14- to 17-night Panama Canal cruises

Holland America offers a variety of Panama Canal cruises , but the most popular itineraries span 14 to 17 nights. They offer a full transit between Fort Lauderdale or Miami and San Diego, Seattle or Vancouver, British Columbia, or vice versa, and are offered on multiple ships, including Koningsdam, Zuiderdam, Zaandam, Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam.

These sailings call on Cartagena, Colombia; Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; and Huatulco and Puerto Vallarta or Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Longer sailings also call on several Caribbean islands.

Who should go : Holland America ships sailing a full transit are popular with retired couples who appreciate the cruise line's consistency and good value. All four ships accommodate between 1,432 and 2,650 passengers and offer signature onboard experiences that include the Greenhouse Spa and the World Stage for evening production shows.

The larger Eurodam, Koningsdam and Nieuw Amsterdam feature additional specialty dining options, such as Tamarind and Nami Sushi, as well as popular music venues B.B. King's Blues Club and Billboard Onboard.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises' 16-night Los Angeles-to-Miami cruise

Regent Seven Seas Cruises ' newest ship, Seven Seas Grandeur , debuted in November 2023 and will transit the Panama Canal on several occasions in the next few years. The 16-night Los Angeles-to-Miami (Jan. 8-23, 2025) transit offers luxurious all-inclusive pampering, plus port calls in Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas and Acapulco, Mexico; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; Corinto, Nicaragua; Panama City; Cartagena, Colombia; and George Town, Grand Cayman.

Plan even further ahead for Grandeur's 22-night Miami-to-Los Angeles transit (Jan. 3-25, 2026) to enjoy additional Caribbean ports of call. From Jan. 25 to Feb. 9, 2026, the ship will sail a 16-night Panama Canal transit from Los Angeles to Miami with an itinerary similar to the 2025 cruises.

Who should go : This itinerary can be a wonderful splurge for a couple seeking to celebrate a milestone anniversary or birthday in a memorable way on a luxurious new ship. Prices start at a hefty $10,099 per person for a spacious balcony suite, but they also include airfare, transfers, gratuities, dining and beverages, Wi-Fi, and shore excursions — meaning you'll hardly have any other vacation expenses.

Celebrity Cruises' 11-night Panama Canal & Southern Caribbean cruise

For a Panama Canal experience that begins and ends in Fort Lauderdale, Celebrity Cruises ' 11-night Panama Canal & Southern Caribbean itinerary is a great option. At the time of writing, cabins are still available for the Dec. 2, 2024, cruise or the half dozen almost identical sailings that follow through April 2025.

All sailings are aboard the 3,260-passenger Celebrity Beyond and visit Cartagena, Colombia; Colon, Panama; Oranjestad, Aruba; Kralendjik, Bonaire; and George Town, Grand Cayman (Willemstad, Curacao, replaces Grand Cayman on some 2025 sailings).

Who should go : Celebrity Beyond and its Edge Class series sister ships appeal to millennials, Gen Xers and young-at-heart baby boomers who appreciate innovative design, entertainment and dining options. The ships are geared toward couples or groups of friends, but families with older teens might also enjoy the onboard vibe. There are no splash pools or waterslides for younger kids, although calls on three Caribbean islands offer aquatic fun.

Windstar Cruises' 7-night Costa Rica & Panama Canal cruise

To explore the Panama Canal region in a relaxed manner aboard an intimate motorized sailing yacht or small ship, check out Windstar Cruises' seven-night Costa Rica & Panama Canal itinerary. Bookable on more than a dozen dates from November 2024 through March 2026, the itinerary is offered aboard 148-passenger Wind Star or Wind Spirit (in 2024 and 2025) and 312-passenger Star Pride (in 2026).

The ship will travel from Colon, Panama, to Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica (or vice versa), transiting the canal. Passengers can visit Panama City and Isla Parida in Panama, plus Golfo Dolce and Quepos (for Manuel Antonio National Park) in Costa Rica.

Who should go : Fans of small-ship cruising who enjoy a casual onboard ambience, are interested in nature and wildlife, and wish to sample the regional flavors of Central America should consider a Windstar cruise . All accommodations on the sailing yachts are in snug yet well-designed cabins with windows but no balconies.

Wind Star and Wind Spirit are cozy and social four-deck ships, each featuring a pool and pool bar, a lounge, and two restaurants. Star Pride is the better option for those who prefer a more spacious, suitelike cabin with a balcony and a larger bathroom.

You'll enjoy beach time as you island-hop in the Caribbean, while calls on Golfito and Puntarenas in Costa Rica offer access to eco-adventure. Princess Cruises' 12-night Panama Canal with Costa Rica & Caribbean cruise

While Princess Cruises offers several longer ocean-to-ocean Panama Canal itineraries, its popular 12-night Panama Canal with Costa Rica and Caribbean cruises conveniently sail round-trip from Fort Lauderdale on more than 20 dates in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

What's more, you can choose between two ships: the 3,140-guest Caribbean Princess and the 3,080-guest Emerald Princess. In addition to the partial transit, these sailings call on several Caribbean islands, including Aruba, Curacao, Jamaica and Grand Cayman, as well as Cartagena, Columbia; Limon, Costa Rica; and Colon, Panama.

Who should go : Couples who enjoy a ship with a more traditional vibe and families with kids who are content to participate in interactive learning activities and nature-based adventure (versus waterslides) will enjoy this cruise. Princess ships are known for their Movies Under the Stars screenings, multiple pools, specialty dining options, such as Sabatini's Italian Trattoria and The Salty Dog Gastropub, and Crooners piano bar.

Norwegian Cruise Line's 12-night South America: Peru, Colombia & Ecuador cruise

There's no "Panama Canal" in this itinerary's name, but Norwegian Cruise Line 's 12-night South America: Peru, Colombia & Ecuador cruise (Feb. 27-March 11, 2026) makes a full canal transit as it sails from Miami to Lima, Peru. The 2,402-passenger Norwegian Jade will visit historic Santa Marta and Cartagena in Colombia; Panama City; Manta, Ecuador; and Trujillo and Lima in Peru.

Who should go : Couples and friends interested in experiencing not just a Panama Canal transit but some of the top coastal experiences along the Pacific coast of South America should choose this itinerary.

Norwegian Jade is an older, smaller vessel that was refurbished in 2022 and features a top deck more conducive to sunning than thrill rides. The ship also has a surprising number of restaurants for its size: two main dining rooms, a buffet restaurant, a pub-style bar and grill, an Asian restaurant, and an outdoor grill on a complimentary basis, plus six specialty dining venues (including a steakhouse and venues showcasing French, Italian and Japanese cuisines) for an added fee.

Oceania's 16-night Miami-to-Los Angeles cruise

Oceania Cruises ' 1,200-passenger Vista — which debuted in May 2023 as the first new-build ship in Oceania's fleet in more than a decade — will offer back-to-back, 16-night Miami-to-Los Angeles (Jan. 8-24, 2025) and Los Angeles-to-Miami (Jan. 24-Feb. 9, 2025) itineraries.

Both sailings visit six countries with port calls that include George Town, Grand Cayman; Cartagena, Colombia; Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Corinto, Nicaragua; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; and Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada, Mexico. (The second sailing visits San Diego instead of Ensenada.)

Who should go : Oceania's newest ship offers a great compromise between a small and medium vessel. It's ideal for those seeking a premium cruise experience with casual sophistication.

Older couples especially will appreciate the ship's elegant cabin decor in soft hues of wheat and seagrass, a mix of grand and intimate spaces, and a wide array of dining options. (Two new and noteworthy venues on Vista include Ember for inventive American cuisine and Aquamar Kitchen for wellness-focused breakfast, lunch and dinner.) A more immersive mixology program features curated cocktail menus, indulgent pairing experiences and specialty beverage carts.

Cunard's 26-night Southampton-to-San Francisco cruise

Cunard's brand-new 2,996-passenger ship Queen Anne, which debuted in May 2024, will make both its first transatlantic crossing and its first Panama Canal transit on this historic 26-night Southampton-to-San Francisco sailing (Jan. 9-Feb. 4, 2025). The ship will first cross the Atlantic and then overnight in New York before calling on Aruba, transiting the canal and visiting Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It will conclude with an overnight in San Francisco.

The winter transatlantic crossing might not be right for everyone, but the second half of this voyage explores warm-weather destinations with plenty of relaxing sea days for sunning, reading, taking dance lessons and enjoying expert lectures.

Who should go : British cruise line Cunard appeals mainly to older travelers who savor the line's formal traditions. This cruise is for you if you enjoy afternoon tea, dressing up for dinner, gala evenings and dancing to big-band orchestras. This particular itinerary appeals to retirees who wish to visit several cruise regions in one sailing.

Viking's 180-day World Voyage

For the ultimate cruise indulgence, Viking's 180-day World Voyage I includes a Panama Canal transit (on Christmas Day, no less) as 930-passenger Viking Sky cruises from Fort Lauderdale to New York City (Dec. 19, 2024-June 17, 2025). This round-the-world cruise will visit 37 countries while guests enjoy Viking Sky's modern Scandinavian interior decor, soothing LivNordic Spa, two pools (including one with a retractable roof) and six onboard restaurants. Pricing includes airfare, gratuities, and complimentary wine and beer with lunch and dinner.

If this longer voyage is sold out, consider the 138-day Viking World Cruise (departing Dec. 19, 2025), also on Viking Sky. This sailing, which travels from Fort Lauderdale to London (Greenwich), visits 28 countries and transits the Panama Canal on the eighth day.

Who should go : With cruise fares that start at $79,995 and $59,995 per person, respectively, these extended adventures at sea require a luxury budget. Viking 's base clientele is mostly retired or close-to-retirement-age professionals who enjoy the cruise line's focus on educational enrichment (via onboard lectures) and serene ambience (there's no casino, and the nighttime vibe is on the quiet side).

Where to find san francisco’s best brunches.

Dalida’s delicious options.

San Francisco is a food lover’s paradise where exceptional cuisine can be found on practically every corner. Although dinner is arguably city dwellers’ favorite time to eat out, it’s followed by brunch , that (mostly) weekend dining indulgence where excess is celebrated and creativity reigns.

Here, we highlight 10 top brunch spots in San Francisco.

Dalida is a must-visit for anyone interested in unique Mediterranean cuisine. Chef couple Laura and Sayat Ozyilmaz have created a beautiful and welcoming restaurant that reflects a distinctive point of view. Sayat grew up in Istanbul and Laura hails from Mexico. The two met at the Culinary Institute of America in New York.

At their airy and bird-print-wallpaper-clad Presidio eatery, you’ll find paper-thin, perfectly cooked octopus with flavorful pork sujuk (a sausage), crispy tahdig (a Persian rice dish) with silky uni and smoked trout roe and succulent Aleppo half chicken. Though all of the food is hearty, complex and elegant, the most memorable brunch dish is the flatbread with mornay, sujuk and poached egg. It’s a messy delight that’s incredibly satisfying.

There’s also a diverse and appealing beverage menu with mocktail options and international wines from Greece, Armenia and Lebanon. Bravo’s Top Chef fans should note that Laura appeared in the most recent season and placed fourth. If you’re lucky, the down-to-earth chef will stop by your table to say hi and tell you about her culinary experience.

‘Don’t Get Left Behind’—Crypto Suddenly Braced For A ‘Game-Changing’ Trump Bombshell After Wild Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana And XRP Price Swings

Taylor swift's austria shows canceled over terror plot — here's what we know, ‘inside out 2’ gets digital streaming premiere date.

We never turn down an invitation to dine at Spruce, a Forbes Travel Guide Recommended restaurant in the lovely Presidio neighborhood. Opened in 2007, the upscale destination has an Old World elegance and a chic, sophisticated dining room. It’s a see-and-be-seen place, so don’t just roll out of bed and into the eatery. You’ll want to be dressed appropriately when you order the three-course brunch prix fixe.

Almost as dapper as the clientele is the beautifully presented farm-to-table cuisine. The meal starts with a baked coffee cake, warm from the oven, with cultured butter. From there, choose your own culinary adventure, ranging from Dungeness crab toast to red-wine-braised short ribs with soft poached eggs, blue corn grits and black truffle jus. Spruce also makes one of the city’s best French omelets.

The Garden Court’s crab salad.

The Garden Court at Palace Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel

The Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Palace Hotel needs no introduction. The city’s grande dame opened in 1875, burned down during the 1906 earthquake and was rebuilt to opulent splendor in 1909.

The area of the hotel that was once for horse-drawn carriage arrivals is now home to The Garden Court, the signature restaurant. Enjoy a caviar omelet, blueberry pancakes and a crab salad with green goddess dressing among the statuesque marble columns, glittering chandeliers and brilliant glass ceiling. It’s Gilded Age luxuriousness in the modern day.

La Mar Cocina Peruana’s mimosa flight.

La Mar Cocina Peruana

When the sun comes out, you can’t beat the view at La Mar’s expansive waterfront patio. It’s a simply enchanting address overlooking the Bay. But the vista is far from the only reason this restaurant is marking its 16th year in S.F. The team serves consistently good, exciting Peruvian cuisine, the atmosphere is always celebratory and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

Don’t know what leche de tigre is? The waiter will not only explain the citrus and aromatic marinade at length, but he’ll share the best dishes with it as well. For its new brunch, La Mar pulls out all the stops. There’s a decadent crab omelet, peppery filet mignon with fried eggs and poached eggs with Parmesan foam and roasted vegetables.

If you’re in the mood for the signature ceviches and tiraditos, you can also order them. A recent special included octopus and hamachi with purple potato puree — it’s inventive, fresh and has an outstanding balance of bright, acidic seafood flavors. When you’re thirsty, order the sensational pisco sour or try one of the more esoteric bottles (like the super-dry Austrian Riesling) off the wine list.

Don’t be late to Early to Rise.

Early to Rise

Chef Andrew McCormack is behind San Francisco’s hottest new breakfast destination, Early to Rise. The restaurant started as a pop-up, where McCormack spent years fine-tuning his recipes before translating the concept to a full brick-and-mortar that opened to much fanfare earlier this year.

Long lines form north of the Panhandle for his eggs Benedict, Burmese-inspired samusa potato pancakes and lox sandwiches. McCormack’s team makes everything from scratch, from the butter and hot sauce to the English muffins and bagels. The kitchen smokes the bacon, whips the ricotta and concocts the seasonal jams and syrups that make up the toppings and condiments. The bloody mary even features housemade tomato paste.

Although Early to Rise does not accept reservations, skip the crowds by dining during the week or experience McCormack’s mastery by ordering off a to-go menu that includes doughnuts, bagels, coffee, cocktails and smoked meats.

Brunch at Che Fico.

Che Fico is one of the city’s most impressive Italian restaurants. It transports you to another world through its décor, cuisine and hospitality. The space is bright and inviting at brunch, and the open kitchen is bustling.

For instant breakfast bliss, grab a Fragolina Balsamico, a pretty pink concoction of rum, strawberry, white balsamic and citrus, and a salumi pizza with housemade prosciutto cotto, mozzarella, potato, rosemary and two runny eggs. You can’t go wrong with chef David Nayfeld’s breakfast panino, which is essentially an Italian English muffin stuffed with fluffy scrambled eggs, ham, strawberry jam and melty caciocavallo cheese. It’s delicious, stays together and isn’t overly filling, making it one of the best breakfast sandwiches we’ve had in a long time. There’s also French toast done with a two-inch-thick piece of brioche, soaked in decadent custard and fried until crisp, then doused in a generous pool of maple syrup.

Copra’s morning spread.

Copra is a spectacular coastal Indian restaurant on Fillmore Street with an elevated vibe and lush, plant-filled setting. The team recently launched weekend brunch, and the menu is unlike anything else in the city. Here, chef Srijith “Sri” Gopinathan pays homage to Kerala and Tamil Nadu, two southern states of India where he grew up.

One of Gopinathan’s favorite dishes is shrimp vennai roast, a delectable brown buttery shrimp with chili chutney, curry leaves and lime. It’s an exciting way to start the day. If you’re in the mood for something else, Gopinathan also recommends the cardamom Copra toast with cashew mittai cream and fruit jam or the vegetable kothu parotta with fried hen egg, gravy and raita.

For those who prefer sweets at brunch, there’s green apple halwa (pudding), cardamom pave (savory squares) and watalappan (a coconut custard with pineapple, palm sugar, cashews and butterscotch cream). Pair the meal with a turmeric spritz, a clarified lassi punch or one of the other artisanal cocktails.\

Rosemary & Pine’s tasty options.

Rosemary & Pine

Design District darling Rosemary & Pine recently relocated to a refreshed destination only a few blocks from its old home. While the team used to offer dinner, Rosemary & Pine 2.0 has a new focus. Chef Dustin Falcon serves breakfast and lunch classics like granola with mixed fruit and an egg sandwich with a sausage patty and white American cheese.

The menu is filled with modern twists on morning favorites, too. For example, the avocado toast comes with bacon, chili crunch, parsley salad and a poached egg while the grilled cheese features raclette and a sunny-side-up egg. The little gem salad, a ubiquitous offering around town, is an innovation with sour cream and onion dressing and texture-adding potato chips. There are also light, fluffy doughnuts, super coffee and excellent waffle fries.

Palette Tea House

Since no San Francisco brunch guide is complete without a dim sum recommendation, we’d like to introduce you to Palette Tea House. Located in the iconic Ghirardelli Square, this address specializes in artfully presented Cantonese brunch. The menu is extensive, innovative and inclusive of every dietary need.

The xiao long bao sampler features five different types of soup dumplings, ranging from kale to crab, done in a colorful array. The lobster option comes with a syringe of liquid butter. The vegetarian dumplings look like beautiful flowers. The black taro puff is as elegant as a swan.

If you aren’t in the mood for dim sum, choose from plenty of other traditional Cantonese dishes, like wok-fried wagyu, Sichuan-style chili fish, smacked cucumber salad, braised eggplant with tofu, and Peking duck. A selection of fine tea, sake, beer and craft cocktails rounds out this exceptional eatery’s menu.

Oysters are carted around during the Bungalow Kitchen’s brunch.

The Bungalow Kitchen

Local star chef Michael Mina’s Bungalow Kitchen is a short ferry ride across the Bay in Tiburon. The space boasts stunning views of San Francisco and a fun, clubby vibe. It’s worth the trip on weekends when Daniela Vergara — shy of 30 years old, she’s the youngest executive chef within the Mina Group — serves a two-course tasting menu that features shrimp Louie lettuce cups, tai snapper ceviche, steak and eggs with black garlic aioli, and crème brûlée French toast. There’s also caviar, pastries, an oyster cart rolling around the dining room and Mina’s signature bloody mary, a recipe that his wife, Diane, has perfected and served to thousands over the years.
