“Quite comfortable catamaran. Trip to Symi took 1 hr 10 min. The schedule was observed which is a big thing for Greece. We traveled a bit with boats and ferries in the region and this one was the first that left and arrived on time. “

SeaDream II Itineraries

Seadream ii review, review of seadream ii.

The 1985-built SeaDream 2 yacht was constructed by STX Finland (Petter Yran & Bjorn Storbraaten, Helsinki Finland ). Previously, the cruise ship was operated by Cunard Line as "Sea Goddess II". The vessel is in SeaDream Yacht Club's fleet since 2001. The only fleetmate is the sistership SeaDream 1 (1984), with a newbuild planned for the future - SeaDream Innovation (concept superyacht).

The vessel (IMO number 8203440) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 308311000) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

The 112-passenger ship SeaDream II is indistinguishable from the sistership SeaDream I . She was designed for independent, experienced travelers who dislike large ships with kids running around, and all the dressing up - ties are useless here. Inside SeaDream II, there is a feeling of discreet sophistication. The public rooms are elegant and chic, with potpourri and flowers everywhere.

Decks and Cabins

The superyacht SeaDream 2 has a total of 56 staterooms (all are Suites, in 4 grades) and max passenger capacity 112 (plus 100 staff-crew. Most are the Yacht Club Staterooms (54 total, sized 195 ft2 / m2), of which 16x can be converted/connected into Commodore Suites (8 total, sized 390 ft2 / 36 m2).

The ship has no cabins with step-out balconies. The largest accommodations are the Owner Suite (445 ft2 / 41 m2) and Admiral Suite (375 ft2 / 35 m2).

Each stateroom features a marble bathroom (Bulgari bath amenities, plush cotton bathrobes, magnifying mirror, massage shower units), spacious living room, smart UHDTV, CD/DVD system, USB charging ports, Internet outlets, iPod stations, personalized stationeries. Refrigerators and mini-bars are stocked with soft drinks, beers, bottled spring water (all beverages are complimentary).

The boat has 6 decks , of which 5 are passenger-accessible and 3 with cabins.

Shipboard facilities and amenities

A delightful feature of SeaDream cruises in warm areas is the beach barbecue "caviar in the surf" (land BBQ dining experience). Another benefit is the drinks onboard, which except connoisseur wines and premium brands, are all free. All meals in the Dining Room are open seating, all the time. Breakfast is typically served at the ship's Topside Restaurant. Guests can choose from a small array of fruits, bread, cereals and yogurt at a mini-buffet. Hot dishes are ordered from a menu. Lunch is also served at the Topside, while dinner locales vary.

SeaDream customers love entertaining themselves. Entertainment options include an intimate Piano Bar, Top Of The Yacht Bar, Casino, Boutique, Promenade (on Deck 5), Spa, Gym, Beauty Salon, Library, Golf Simulator, Main Lounge (light music and first-run movies), sundeck's swimming pool and Jacuzzi/whirlpool, or a great choice of in-cabin CDs and DVDs. At no cost, passengers may check out iPods stocked with different types of music. The stern watersports Marina makes it easy for passengers to snorkel and sail off the stern. Complimentary to all tourists are provided snorkeling gear, kayaks, wakeboards, stand-up paddleboards, sailboats, jet skis, Hobie Cats (sailing catamarans), a banana boat, a floating island and a trampoline, as well as electric mountain bikes.

SeaDream 2 yacht cruise ship

Both SeaDream yachts feature "Top of the Yacht" bars (added during the drydocks in 2001), along with the 8x alcoves set to the starboard and port sides of the Funnel/smokestack (equipped with padded two-person loungers). At the front part of the Sundeck, there are large hammocks, more sunloungers and 2x Jacuzzies (added during the drydock in 2022), as well as a Golf Simulator (with 30+ golf course choices) that doubles as Cinema/Theater.

The superyacht has 1 elevator (midship, interconnecting all decks but 1-CrewDeck and 6-Sundeck) and Infirmary/Medical Facility (hospital and pharmacy, served by a resident physician).

In November 2022, SeaDeam 2 was upgraded with an inflatable water slide which is deployed from the pool deck (Deck 3 aft). The slide is approx 6 m / 19 ft above the sea and with length 7 m / 24 ft and width 0,3 m / 5 ft.

Itineraries

Traditionally for SeaDream yachts, SeaDream 2 itinerary program is based on Mediterranean voyages (homeporting in Civitavecchia-Rome , Venice , Barcelona , Piraeus-Athens , Dubrovnik Croatia ), as well as Caribbean voyages with homeporting in San Juan Puerto Rico and Charlotte Amalie (St Thomas USVI) .

The cruise ship is also open for private charters with custom-designed itineraries.

Following the Coronavirus crisis, both SeaDream yachts restarted operations in July 2021 (Europe/Mediterranean deployment). The Caribbean operations were restarted in November 2021, with SeaDream 2 from San Juan Puerto Rico (Nov 20) and SeaDream 1 from Bridgetown Barbados (Nov 26).

Seadream ii wiki.

SeaDream 2 cruise ship is company's second all-inclusive yacht, with sistership Sea Dream 1 . The vessel was built in 1985 and chartered as "Sea Goddess II" to Sea Goddess Cruises (between 1984-1998), as "Seabourn Goddess II" to Cunard and Seabourn (between 1999 and 2001) and operated under its current name by the shipowner since 2001.

SeaDream 2 cruises in the Mediterranean (during summer) and in the Caribbean (during winter). Transatlantic cruise deals are offered seasonally on yacht's the Atlantic Ocean repositioning crossings. Some of the itineraries can be combined into back-to-back cruises (longer, discount priced voyages). While departure and call port times are generally pre-set, the Captain can modify the yacht's cruise schedule and adjust those times (even seaports) along the route. While most Caribbean-based cruise vessels depart from ports of call in late-afternoon, SeaDream 2 is often departing in late-evening - just to give its affluent guests the chance to enjoy the local nightlife. Many cruise itineraries additionally feature scheduled overnight stays in ports.

The yacht's passenger capacity is only 112 guests, making it perfect for cruise ship charters, that usually serve corporate business meetings, "rich family" reunions, celebrities' anniversaries at sea, etc. On such deals, the cruise itinerary route for the yacht's charter is determined by the booking party.

SeaDream 2 refurbishments review

In 2022 (January and May), SeaDream conducted a USD 10 million (EUR 8,8M) drydock refurbishment project for both yachts at Navalrocha Ship Repair Lisbon  (Portugal).

Works included full-scale renovations of all staterooms (new furniture, hardware, textiles, wardrobes, electrical upgrades / USB charging ports, Wi-Fi, fingerprint sensor lights, 55-inch smart HDTVs), all outside deck spaces (premium teakwood flooring, premium mahogany Balinese beds and sun loungers, Loro Piana upholstery and cushions, Frette towels, TUUCI parasols and hammocks), upgraded cabin amenities (woven lines, silk pajamas, silver ice buckets, GioBagnara Miramar trays).

Forward on Deck 6 (Sundeck's sunbathing area) were installed 2x new Jacuzzies and 2x new rain showers.

The aft-located/stern Marina Platform was also upgraded.

In November 2022, to the superyacht was added an inflatable water slide which is deployed from the pool deck (Deck 3 aft). The slide is approx 6 m / 19 ft above the sea and with length 7 m / 24 ft and width 0,3 m / 5 ft.

Review of Virgin Voyages – Resilient Lady (Adriatic Sea and Greek Gems)

Thank you to Malika Bowling for this story and review of the Virgin Voyages Resilient Lady

Photos credit Malika Bowling

In the demand for cruising, it seemed that there was an unserved segment.

Enter: Virgin Voyages – the adults-only cruise line for foodies, fitness fanatics and fun for grown-ups.

Virgin has addressed many of the objections some have had about cruising and fixed the issues.

Eschewing the overrated Caribbean, I booked Virgin’s  7-day Adriatic Gems cruise, visiting Croatia and Montenegro before returning to the Greek island of Corfu. On embarkation day, I anticipated a long wait, but it was only about five minutes from the time we walked to the tent to getting on board, which was a nice surprise.

Stateroom: Unlike many cruise ships, the majority of cabins on Virgin Voyages come with a balcony. Unique to Virgin Voyages is the signature red hammocks that you will use more than you think. The room felt spacious once we tucked our luggage under the bed. Plus the counter that spanned about half the room was perfect for setting things like laptops, books and other smaller items like jewelry. You’ll get two large containers of water each day in your room. One of the coolest things was the electronic buttons for Do not Disturb or Service Requested.

Ship: Virgin launched its first ship in 2021, so everything is relatively new. Elevators were spaced out enough and plentiful enough that wherever I was on the ship I never had to wait long. The pool is quite small, so don’t think you are going to be doing any laps in there, it is more for lounging. One thing that I loved is that entitled cruisers can’t hoard loungers by placing towels on them. They’ll be removed by staff after 40 minutes.

The top features a basketball court, swings, see-saws and other lounging areas if you prefer relaxing over party vibes.

Shows: There were several magic shows on board, one a funny duo that kept the audience laughing and another solo performer who uses deduction to impress the audience with funny guesses and quips. Since the venues are not huge (which is actually a bonus for seeing the performers) many of the shows repeat at least once during the cruise, so if you don’t get to see them the first go round, you have the opportunity to catch it the next go round.

Lola’s Library was a combo of cabaret, acrobatic feats, and theatre. Do make sure to get there about 10 minutes before showtime to get a good seat as all seating is first- come first serve. Pro Tip: head upstairs for the best view.

sea dream greek cruises

The ship has a handful of fine dining restaurants that operate almost as stand-alone restaurants with their own dedicated manager and staff. It is best to have reservations but if you show up, it is quite easy to get seated.

Extra Virgin – The Italian restaurant features steaks and pastas. While it was good, it didn’t knock our socks off. The beef carpaccio was a terrific start. Our server was a bit absent but overall, a decent meal.

Gunbae – This Korean Barbecue spot is designed to be an experience, not just a meal. Note that you will need to dine with others (we had six others at our table). While this is a fun experience for some, if you have regular access to Korean barbecue where you live, you may want to spend your night dining elsewhere. The staff has a drinking game of sorts set up and when you lose you must do a shot of sake.

Pink Agave – The elevated Mexican cuisine here was impressive. Start with the shrimp and chips and guac. The smoked pork and duck covered in mole sauce left us wanting more. I wished we had gone there another night instead of Gunbae or Razzle Dazzle.

Razzle Dazzle – One of two restaurants open for brunch, Razzle Dazzle is somewhat of a healthy dining option, especially at brunch. At dinner, they offer more comfort food options like fried chicken. Though I did have a snapper entree that was on the healthy side. If I had to do it again, I’d do this for brunch but skip dinner.

Test Kitchen – For the more adventurous eaters, check out Test Kitchen which looks like somewhat of a food lab. Opt for a seat with a view of the meal prep. The steak and elk were so soft you could cut them with a butter knife. Cocktails were interesting too. The dessert was a mandarin ice cream served inside of an orange. This is a THE spot for creative dishes with an artful presentation. It may not be the best choice if you are not an adventurous eater.

The Wake – By far, the best dining experience on the ship. We ate here three times during our weeklong cruise. Though I was disappointed, even with Rock Star status we couldn’t get a table by the port window, it was still a wonderful experience. The decor is much more high-end than Extra Virgin and the food is spectacular from lamb and steak to fish. There is even an ice display of all the shellfish. We even opted for the pay option of meaty oysters to kick off both dinners. Brunch was equally impressive with clam chowder and poached shrimp too.

The Galley – Virgin Voyage’s answer to a buffet, these stations feature Asian, Mexican, breakfast all day, paninis and more.

Pizza Place – There are several pizza options on the menu here and you can get pizza until 2 am. The smallish (4 slices per pie) are the perfect late-night snack.

Lick me Til – This ice cream spot features a multitude of ice cream flavors and they change them out daily.

sea dream greek cruises

There are two sea days and there were plenty of activities to keep busy during those days. You can immerse yourself in shows, events like a Mezcal bingo game (yes, they really have that on the ship), exercise classes and more.

Dubrovnik – Our first Croatian city, we wished we had skipped breakfast and dined at one of the cute cafes around town. But walking along the cobblestone streets and taking in the sights, we had a fascinating time just taking in all the picturesque spots.

Spit – Though we purchased a city tour, this is another port where you could simply walk around. Unless you are a huge history buff and want to know lots of detailed facts, save your money for Kotor tours.

Kotor – This city in Montenegro is the place you want to participate in shore excursions. There is a gorgeous blue bay where you can swim and excursions will take you to see this unique colored water. Plus, another excursion took us to taste mussels freshly caught and cooked in front of us.

Corfu – If checking off a Greek island is on your bucket list, this is it. Corfu is also the place to do your shopping for gifts for friends and family. There are plenty of shops for souvenirs. We got some cute kid’s outfits, jewelry and playing cards.

Overall, Virgin Voyages cruises are ideal for foodies looking for a refined experience. While Virgin may give off scantily clad 20-something vibes, the reality is an age range of 30s to 50s in the majority of this cruise. I can’t wait to sail with them again!
