Seats on Shearing coaches

Hi. Has anyone here been on a Shearings holiday recently, and can tell me about the front seat? I have been allocated modest board no. 1 and fear it won’t give me enough room. If it’s a solid board that is it, game over. I spoke to someone in the company and she seems to think it may have a bit of room at the bottom for the feet, but I’m not so sure.

Also, I have a 5.40am pick up. Worried I can’t cope ‘toilet’ wise. If I cancel now, I lose 70% of the holiday.

Are you paying exactly the same as everyone else Jazzi or are they offering you a discount?

I looked here https://www.leger.co.uk/pdfs/Seating-Plan-Executive.pdf and it says Modesty board seats have slightly less legroom and may not have footrests. If you’re paying the same as everyone else you might want to get in touch with citizens advice and ask whether you can claim a full refund? \

How long is the trip? I’d probably not be happy either if I was paying the same as everyone else tbh - can’t they give those seats to children instead?

ask them to change your seat Jazzi ,Tell them you are not happy with a front seat as you will throw up being so close to the front , and Most Coaches have Toilets on board usually to the middle so if you need the toilet a lot ,maybe get one close to the middle …

If you’ve paid the same price as everyone else, you’re entitled to equal comfort

Are you travelling alone? My friend, who is a widow, often tells me she gets shoved into the worst seats and hotel room

Phone them up, tell them you only booked on the promise of a comfortable seat with leg room as promised in their adverts and ask for a different seat, as you paid full price

If they say no, rant some more and demand a full refund for your cancellation

Get the name of who you spoke to and ask to speak to their manager, and the customer service manager. Rant again

Warn them that if they don’t comply, you’ll take legal action, and will shame them all over social media, including all the pensioner groups you belong to and the newspapers

Say you will expose them for discriminating against single women travellers and intend to take it up with your MP

Follow that up with an email and a letter saying the same thing, copy AgeUK, your MP, Citizens advice and anyone else you can think of

Send emails/letters to your MP and councillors and local papers and copy their customer services in

If you’re on Facebook or Twitter, put your complaint in their comments, or get someone else to do it for you. Then get all your friends to join in

Don’t let them get away with it, it’s not right, those seats should be cheaper, they are bang out of order and are taking advantage of you.

The only discount I am getting is there is no single room supplement (this was on selected holidays). And yes I did phone and was told the coach is full, so cannot change the seat.

The 5.40am departure worries me toilet wise. There is a stop maybe an hour away, for collection (Thickthorn services), but if the second leg is one of their coaches we can use any seat.

Going from Lowestoft to Thickthorn (Norwich), on to Rugby, for the coach with the allocated mod board seat, then to Whitby.

I looked into the idea of going by train, at a more reasonable hour, but as someone warned me on FB, what about cancellations, or delays.

And though it was suggested I could sleep on the coach, not sure about that if it’s slightly uncomfortable. What a dilemma! And no, I had absolutely no idea they would suggest such an early time.

Maree, don’t get upset! And there is no point me going down that route of complaint.

I’ve not travelled by shearings …however I have been on locks and glens coach holidays .

The front seat being highly prized, if shearing can’t help I’m sure once onboard one of the passengers would be willing to swap seats with you.

I thought the front seat on a coach was the one everybody wanted, because you get the best view and are first off.

I am missing something here.

I have posted on Chit Chat this morning, with my thoughts now on this.

I looked at their site and it says for a small supplement you can book 1st or 2nd row seats .So have you? aYou must get in touch with them to say you don’t want that seat ,it’s not suitable . If you didn’t request it and they just gave it to you they’re out of order surely if they won’t change it ? Ask to speak to Head Office if you get any aggro.

When I phone to cancel, and it is when, not if, I shall ask for a better refund because of the seat allocation and the time of pick up.

I just watch bus and coach activity on youtube from my sofa, guess I am a Coach Potato!

I’ve done many trips with Shearings and never had a pick up so early in the morning. And that was from London. Can’t understand this one.

Enjoyable trip to Keukenhof and Amsterdam

We enjoyed our 4 day holiday to the Dutch Bulb Fields, Keukenhof and Amsterdam. We had an informative, experienced driver, George, after Stop 24 and the one before Stop 24 picked us up when expected and gave details of the stops along the way. Moxy hotel in Utrecht was comfortable with a pleasant outlook and acceptable food facilities. The site-seeing days were full and totally memorable for all the best reasons. A change to a tunnel return was handled well. The trip home from Stop 24 on coach 188 was with a less experienced driver who took advice from passengers and got us to our dropping off point at the expected time.

Great communication with sales lady Adel

Really pleased with the young lady (Adel) who took our call, very helpful and when asked for extra information she rang the hotel in question and phoned us back with all the answers. So we have confidently booked our New Year stay in Newquay with you, thanks to Adele’s excellent advice.

Steaming through the bulb fields

Steaming through the bulb fields. We had a lovely trip to Holland. Visiting Keukenhof gardens on day two was beautiful - lots of colourful tulips and beautiful sunshine. We were very lucky as the week before they had storms and hailstones! Day three trips included a boat trip, steam train ride and a visit to the cheese and clog museum which we really enjoyed. Day four excursion to Amsterdam which cost us extra!!! Hotel was lovely and comfortable. The only issues were the set menu for dinner with no choice so if you didn't like it you were stuck. Also having to pay for drinks at dinner seemed a bit much. I think at least one drink with your dinner should be included. Our drivers Danny and Graham were excellent and keep us entertained throughout

Coach driver excellent, hotel food inedible.

The coach driver was excellent. The trip to Haverford needs changing, there is nothing there except empty shops, nothing to do. The hotel food was the worst I have ever experienced and was literally inedible. Not a single fellow passenger was happy, most people ate out.

Can’t fault Shearings. I found them to be well organised and responsive to requests. Their drivers are also friendly and helpful. However, the reason why I’m giving them five stars is that they went above and beyond when my friend had a heart attack and ended up in hospital. Pitlochry and Highlands tour

Tour driver Daren very friendly and helpful. Tour e perience could have been better, as for the most part excursions would have been just long shopping trips without the intervention of Daren. He went out of his way to ensure we managed to see Stirling castle And not have to once again tramp round shops all day. He also took us to see the Kelpies as an extra on the return journey. Visit to distillery was good, Pitlochry hotel could have been better.

DUTCH BULBFIELDS CRUISE

DUTCH BULBFIELDS CRUISE - MS SERENADE I 22 Apr 2024 for 5 Days. The hosts on the MS SERENADE I and the drivers on the coach were very helpful and kind, the partnership of Chris and Junior made the holiday. Great tour guides, very knowledgeable and informative with excellent customer care. The tour locations were amazing especially when we went to Keukenhof gardens, it was breathtaking to see all the colourful tulips and also to go up the Euromast to see a 360 view of Rotterdam was outstanding. I've made some great memories and some new friends. I would definitely recommend it if you're a solo traveller like myself because everyone looks after you and it's a great way to see different places and you know everything is taken care of so you're well looked after.

Oban&West Coast of Scotland

Oban&West Coast of Scotland was a good introduction to Scotland for me.Blessed with perfect weather for 5 day duration. Great Western Hotel very tired and in need of many repairs etc BUT the staff were lovely,food ok and most importantly location fabulous. Be prepared for long travel times in-between sightseeing trips but views amazing.Coach driver was excellent.

European Holiday cancellation issue.

I was upset at having to cancel my holiday abroad due to insurance problems with health issues. The customer service person was very kind and helpful. The follow up with the cancellation team was also very supportive and helped us book an alternative holiday in the UK. Thankyou very much to everyone

Five day holiday to Holland with…

Five day holiday to Holland with Keukenhof, Amsterdam, the Hague and Delft. Our first time with Shearings and will definitely be returning customers. We loved the convenience of the local pick up points, slick, well organised transfers and inclusive meals on the ferry. Hotel Moxy was clean, very comfortable and in a picturesque spot right next to a beautiful canal in Utrecht. Our driver/guides were Kelvin and Prem who were knowledgeable, friendly and humorous. They really added to the enjoyment of the holiday and even managed to arrange a warm sunny day for our visit to the Keukenhof tulips!

Venice with Wayne and Olly

The tour coach was good, but still no free wi-fi available, which I feel is a must have for long journeys. Drivers Wayne and Olly were excellent and went that "extra mile" to ensure everyone was OK. Hotel management and staff are like a family, and when you stay here they make you feel like you are part of that family. We found the food to be excellent with good options, excursions are great and Wayne's knowledge about the locations is very good. Weather wasn't great but still had a great time.

We had lovely time on Como trip made more enjoyable by the good company of the other guests and especially by our crew Sonia and Andrew who did everything go make sure we all were ok.the trip on the bernina express was the highlight for us,though st Moritz itself disappointing.Stresa and lake Maggiore beautiful,we didn't see the best of Bergamo as it rained all day ,we also visited Villa Carlotta and Bellagio ourselves,both very enjoyable,especially the old paddlesteamer back.thanks once again to Sonia and Andrew ,a credit to the company Angela and Tony Miller

Cleanliness is a top priority and this fell well short! Filthy doors where you could write your name in the grime, stains and general marks on walls, dirty toilet brushes, food good, staff pleasant apart from one reception male who had a attitude problem. Despite these issues we made the most of it and enjoyed ourselves!

Durch Bulb Fields and Amsterdam trip. 4 day.

The hosts and drivers on the coach, the partnership of Nigel and Sarah made the holiday. Great tour guides, very knowledgeable and informative. Exceptional Customer care. The tour locations were first class, however not enough people elected for the clog and cheese tour. In my opinion with the canal boat option on the Amsterdam day, there wouldn't be enough time for another trip that day. Maybe a shortened clog and cheese trip on the keukenhoff trip day would be better received ?

The young man who answered the phone…

The young man who answered the phone was very helpful when the holiday I requested was fully booked he found others for me and explained all about them

Not impressed to my query.

I booked my mini cruise holiday based upon the information in the current Shearings brochure. All went well until I Went to upgrade my basic cabin to a higher one. The brochure stated that the upgrade would cost £195 pp but when I accepted the upgrade the price jumped to £265 pp. I contacted Shearings to query the increase in price and was told this was a 'marketing error' and there was nothing they could do about it! My understanding of Trading Standards is that goods should be sold at the price advertised. I was not impressed with their response to my query. Lets hope the actual holiday lives up to it's hype!

An extremely well organised trip on the Dutch Bulbfields Cruise. Friendly, helpful staff with Chris and Junior for the coach part of the holiday, and that also applied to Beverly and Mircea, on the cruise. Excellent food, with refreshments on tap, and cosy clean cabins on the ship. A thoroughly recommended holiday.

Dutch Bulbfield Tour

Dutch Bulbfield Tour. Keukenhof Gardens were in full bloom - an excellent venue! The boat cruise was so far off shore - nothing to see and the steam train carriage was very cramped for our group! Clog and cheese farm visit & tasting was good. Main coach leg room not good enough for a European trip. Hotel room service not the best. Fixed one choice dinner menu - main course chips and salad every night (with meat). Breakfast excellent! Amersfoort via local no. 17 bus stop ( Bedrijventerrein De Horst on Frankement) on our free day - a lovely choice!

Boarding Points for Day Excursions

You can board your Johnsons Day Excursion from 40  local boarding points including Sutton Coldfield, Pype Hayes and Castle Bromwich in the north; Coventry, Warwick and Leamington in the east; Alvechurch and Barnt Green in the west; Evesham, Stratford-upon-Avon, Wellesbourne and Shipston-on-Stour in the south; and Birmingham and Solihull in the middle. Or you can park for free at our yard in Henley-in-Arden to join your day trip.

We provide full details and times for each Day Excursion so that you can clearly see what is included and how the Excursion has been designed to run. Reserved seating is provided on all day trips. Just choose your seat when you book – we find most people generally like to be near the front, so the earlier you book the better choice of seats you have.

What you can expect on board

Our wonderful fleet of coaches offer a luxury travelling experience with onboard entertainment and spacious seating. Am I absolutely crazy to attempt this? I’m sure it’s considered an off-season in regards to tourism. Aside from the cold what are the pros and cons to this?

And how do we live here? Are we crazy? Many people in the World do winter travels and like it very much. It's not only Russia - Finland, Norway, Sweden, Canada, Alaska. All these lands receive many tourists in the winter. Winter sports, walks in winter parks, extreme beauty of snow landscapes etc. The main thing that you need - proper winter clothing.

Can't think of any pros unless you like cold, bone-chilling dampness, snow, etc...but another con is still very short days...I guess a "pro" here is "not as bad as December 21st, the shortest day of the year...

Compared to what? "High season", I suppose: late May - August.

Frankly saying, November-like weather may happen in February too, but not so inevitably, maybe 20% against 80% of "real winter".

Daylight in November is much closer to February than indicated - just count out from December 21st...but re: compared to what, my point exactly...I repeat, unless one loves cold and snow, and short days, April, most of May, all of September and even October makes “pros”of February pretty much disappear.

We will have to let the OP tell us or decide if the whim of coming to Russia in February is a good idea!

Duration of the daylight: 1st of November - 9:20 vs 28th of February - 10:34;

30th of November - 7:34 vs 1st of February - 8:36.

There is no need in counting days.

I'm thinking about a 7-8 day trip to these two cities next February. (My wife is going elsewhere, so I'm on my own this time.) Normally I would plan it myself, but I really don't have the time or connections this time.

iExplore, which we've used before, offers a nice package from Adventure Center tours that seems to fit. Does anyone know anything about them? Or have an alternative suggestion?

Explore Russian Summer Life: Visit Russian Dacha!

People from Northern countries soak up every bit of pleasure out of summertime. Its days are numbered, and we do our best to store up the sunshine for the long, cold months that make up the rest of the year. Russians are among those who take full advantage of the brief, hot weather.

At summer’s peak, many Russians don’t venture far. The reason is dachas , our country houses. August brings the harvest for our small garden plots, but a dacha is much more than just an economic benefit: it embodies a culture dating back to Communist times.

The dachas is a unique phenomenon in the life of anyone who lives in the boundless expanses of the Russian Federation. A small plot – just 0.15 acres – with a few currant bushes, apple trees and a vegetable patch, a little wooden house with no telephone or running water and a discreetly located outhouse. I’d love to how you mine.

How we’ll get there:

I believe that it’ll be fun to experience the Russian suburban train (electrichka), which is very popular in our country. Electrichka is inexpensive and it might even be faster than a car as it doesn’t depend on the traffic. Travelling by commuter train you’ll be able to see ordinary people and possibly talk with them. Sometimes trains offer you such “free entertainment” as listening to numerous vendors and musicians. But local trains might be crowded at certain times of the day so in some cases we’d recommend you to go with us by car.

What we’ll do:

We start the trip with the tour of Dmitrov , an ancient Russian town, founded in 1147 and called Moscow younger brother. It is located 1 hour drive out of Moscow.

Learning how to prepare a Russianlunch:

First you choose the right meat, then the right recipe for the marinade.The fire has to be started and allowed to burn down until it’s almost out, but still smouldering. If you catch it at that moment, then the meat will roast evenly and not burn.

Meanwhile, the fire keeps threatening to go out, compelling family and guests to furiously fan it with pieces of cardboard. We serve sashlik with baked potatoes, pickled vegetables and of course Russian vodka. Lunch is followed by traditional Russian tea drinking .

You’ll be so involved, you won’t even notice when it’s time to go back to the city.

The tour cost is 200 USD.

Tour price is for 2 people but I can accommodate up to 6 people in this tour, however the price will change.
