Bills Stadium Experience: Official preview center for new Buffalo Bills stadium to open on Wednesday

stadium tour highmark stadium

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Bills are giving fans an interactive look at every aspect of the new Highmark Stadium with the "Bills Stadium Experience" which is set to open Wednesday by appointment only at The Walker Center in the Northtowns

7 News Anchor Jeff Russo went on a tour of the "Bills Stadium Experience" with Bills officials ahead of the opening.

"I think the biggest thing when you go through a transition of an old stadium, to a new one, so many things change about the fan experience," said Colin Cook, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the new Highmark Stadium. "We are able to offer so many different areas and really a new reality of what fans are going to experience at the stadium."

Once inside, fans can experience key features of the new stadium by using interactive touchscreens, and even sitting in prototypes of future stadium seating.

The main highlight is the impressive scale model of the new Highmark Stadium and its surrounding footprint.

"You get to turn the corner and see the vision of the future, which is jaw-dropping. Everyone who sees the model is just blown away," said Frank Cravotta, Senior Vice President of Design.

The new Highmark Stadium will offer many different seating options and amenities. The "Bills Stadium Experience" allows fans to see a 3D view from every area of the stadium, and the opportunity to select their seats.

"This is about football first, Buffalo fans," said Cravotta. "Intensity, loud, and comfort where we can bring it in."

For the first time, the Bills will be introducing Personal Seat Licenses, or PSLs at the new stadium. It's an upfront fee that allows the holder the right to purchase season tickets. The Bills say season tickets will learn the pricing of their PSLs and season tickets when they select their seats.

"We've talked about the stadium being built for Buffalo, PSL pricing will also be priced for Buffalo," said Chris Colleary, Vice President of Ticket Sales and Service. "We've mentioned that season ticket members will be invited in different phases. Season ticket members are coming and they are getting that one-on-one experience and they are selecting their experience. They will see the different pricing for those options."

Season ticket holders will be invited to the "Bills Stadium Experience" based on current seat location as well as seniority. All season ticket holders will have an opportunity to visit the interactive experience to select their seats. The Bills are asking for patience.

"It may take a year to get through," said Colleary. "We want season ticket members to be patient. There will be an opportunity for all season ticket holders to come and select and purchase season tickets for the new stadium."

Highmark Stadium Buffalo Bills events tickets parking hotels seating food

Highmark Stadium

By Edward de la Fuente

Our guide to Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y., includes information on events, tickets, parking, public transportation, nearby hotels and restaurants, seating and more. Read on to find out how to get the most out of your gameday experience.

Over its long history, the stadium the Buffalo Bills call home has been through quite a bit.

From the team’s heyday of the early 1990s, when it reached four straight Super Bowls, to the lean years of the late 2000s and early 2010s, the stadium and Buffalo’s loyal fans have stood as a constant.

Now known as Highmark Stadium, the venue is also the answer to a trivia question involving a different sport: it hosted the first NHL Winter Classic , back in 2008, when the Sabres hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In recent years, a number of renovations have gone a long way toward enhancing the spectator experience in what was already one of the more fun environments in the NFL. The “Bills Mafia” has gained a reputation for being some of the most boisterous fans in the league, and it’s really on display during game days at Highmark Stadium.

Highmark Stadium is the latest name for a venue that recently went from New Era Field to Bills Stadium in quick succession. The facility has previously been known as Rich Stadium and Ralph Wilson Stadium in its long history.

Its days are now numbered, with a new stadium to be built just across the street. It will be ready for the 2026 season, so in the meantime enjoy Highmark Stadium for what it is: One of the quirkiest, most unique stadiums in the NFL.

Getting to the stadium

Orchard Park, where Highmark Stadium is located, is a suburb about 12 miles south of downtown Buffalo. But the stadium is not far from Interstate 90, which cuts through the city, as well as Route 219 aka the Pittsburgh-Buffalo Highway. From Route 219, exit at either Milestrip Road (Route 179) if you’re heading south on I-90 or Big Tree Road (Route 20A) if traveling north, then go east toward the stadium.

You can find more detailed driving directions here , but from our experience, traveling from the Buffalo airport, exiting Route 219 on Milestrip Road and heading east (against the gameday traffic flow), then turning right on Mid County Drive and right again onto Southwestern Boulevard, was a viable shortcut.

If you don’t have a car, you can consider taking a taxi or rideshare, but from downtown Buffalo you’re looking at a rather hefty one-way cab fare . However, there is a shuttle service that runs to the stadium from various points around the region, including in neighboring Canada.

Yes, plenty of fans come from across the border to see Bills games, and it’s not uncommon to see many cars with Ontario license plates in the Highmark Stadium parking lots.

Parking at Highmark Stadium

Highmark Stadium is surrounded by large parking lots on both sides on Abbott Road, the main drag on the stadium’s west side. Most of the outer lots are open to the public; general parking currently costs $40. Be forewarned that traffic between the stadium and I-90 can get gnarly as kickoff approaches and after games.

Note that the west side of Abbott Road is where the new stadium is set to be built, so expect parking capacity to decrease significantly there in the coming years.

There are also plenty of businesses near Highmark Stadium willing to offer up spaces in their parking lots for fans, with the usual discount getting steeper the farther away the lot is from the stadium. The westbound approach on Southwestern Boulevard has quite a few options, ranging from medical offices and restaurants to a tire store and a guitar store.

Orchard Park/Buffalo hotels near Highmark Stadium

For visitors, there’s very little in the way of hotel and lodging selections near Highmark Stadium. You might find yourself better off choosing from one of the many hotels in and around downtown Buffalo, about 12 miles northwest of the stadium, or near Buffalo Niagara International Airport about 15 miles to the north, and then driving to Highmark Stadium on game day.

• Red Carpet Inn Orchard Park – 0.4 miles away • Stadium View Inn – 1.9 miles away • Econo Lodge Buffalo South – 1.9 miles away Search for more Orchard Park/Buffalo hotels on Booking.com .

Map of the surrounding area

Things to do around the stadium.

Befitting its suburban locale, there isn’t that much to do in the immediate vicinity of the stadium other than a few mom-and-pop establishments — though they all have strong reputations as gameday hangouts.

In particular, check out Big Tree Inn and Danny’s Buffalo Cuisine (both at the intersection of Abbott and Big Tree roads), and O’Neill’s Stadium Inn at Abbott and Southwestern Boulevard.

The lack of hotels and restaurants in the area also largely means a lack of foot traffic around Highmark Stadium, save for folks walking from their car to the stadium. That’s OK, because that’s a big reason why the tailgating scene is so strong before Bills games.

Especially if you’re a one-time-only visitor, you owe it to yourself to walk around and check out a little bit of the tailgating, which has been known to get elaborate and sometimes a little rowdy . If you’d like to set up your own tailgate party, the Bills have published a guide which can be found here .

The Bills also host a kid-friendly pregame party in their practice facility, the Adpro Sports Training Facility, on the south side of the stadium. And a portion of Abbott Road is closed to traffic pregame — it’s in this area where you can find the “Billevard,” with sponsor booths and food trucks.

Watching a game at Highmark Stadium

Buffalo’s location at the eastern end of Lake Erie contributes to its reputation for having chilly, windswept days starting in the fall.

It goes without saying that fans need to bundle up for cold afternoons in their seats, particularly as it gets late in the football season, but die-hard Bills fans never use the weather as an excuse for not having a good time at Highmark Stadium. So bring a nice, heavy coat, a scarf and a hat, and revel in what can often be a party atmosphere.

Entry gates can be found throughout the stadium’s perimeter but are most prominent on the west side, where the Bills Team Store is as well as a statue of Ralph Wilson, his right arm outstretched so that fans can walk up and shake his hand.

The statue and team store are part of an enlarged entry plaza that was a big component of the stadium’s most recent renovation, which also included two new videoboards on the east end.

While the perimeter of the venue serves as the main concourse, most of the concession stands, bathrooms, etc. can be found within the stadium structure, with upper and lower levels. On cold, windswept days, you can find at least a little bit of shelter in these areas if you’re looking for a break from the weather conditions.

Highmark Stadium’s seating bowl itself has a similar feel to a college stadium, with aluminum bleacher seating in all but the lower bowl sideline sections. The benches at least have divided backs so that individual seats are more clearly delineated.

The upper part of the seating bowl is often where you can find Highmark Stadium’s most spirited fans, who are at their loudest when the Bills score and the stadium PA fires up the team’s own rendition of the song “Shout,” allowing them to scream out, “Let’s go Buffalo!”

Note that in the upper deck seating areas on both sides of Highmark Stadium, there is a concourse at the very top that have two sets of bathrooms each. There’s also limited standing-room viewing areas if you’re looking for a different vantage point or to stretch your legs a little.

But be forewarned that not every aisle leads to this top concourse; a few lead to dead ends at the top, forcing you to walk across rows to get to the next aisle and the concourse.

Food and drink at Highmark Stadium

Highmark Stadium’s concessions options were also revamped as part of the renovation. Among the purveyors that can be found there are Tim Hortons (donuts and coffee) and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que . And it wouldn’t be a Buffalo venue if Buffalo wings weren’t available — Duff’s Famous Wings  and La Nova operate stands around the stadium.

If you want to stretch your legs and get out of your seating area, you can head behind Highmark Stadium’s east end zone bleachers to the Miller Lite Brew Pub, which offers a sports bar atmosphere where you can watch the game for a bit.

Stadium History | Parking & Admission | Seating & Capacity | Food & Concessions

Highmark Stadium, home to the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, is located in Orchard Park, New York, a suburb about 10 miles south of downtown Buffalo. The Erie County coliseum holds the distinction of being the only permanent residence of an NFL team in New York, as the New York Giants and New York Jets share MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Opened in 1973 as Rich Stadium, the 71,608-seat, open-air facility has hosted numerous memorable Bills matchups, including the team’s undefeated home playoff game win streak from 1988 to 1996 and the 2017 Snow Bowl game, in which an estimated eight to nine inches of snow fell during an eventual Buffalo win in “Snowvertime” against the Indianapolis Colts. Though the massive outdoor space is almost exclusively used by the Buffalo Bills, Highmark Stadium has also presented special sporting events, such as the first NHL Winter Classic in 2008 between the hometown Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins, and live performances by The Rolling Stones, U2, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, and more.

As the fourth-oldest stadium in the NFL , Highmark Stadium has remained open thanks to extensive renovations in 1984, 1998 and 2013. The address for Highmark Stadium is 1 Bills Drive.

Highmark Stadium History

Highmark Stadium opened as Rich Stadium in 1973, only three years after the American Football League’s Buffalo Bills were admitted into the NFL. The locally headquartered Rich Products retained the facility’s naming rights until 1997, when it was changed to Ralph Wilson Stadium honoring the Bills’ founder and then-presiding owner. Following further rebrands to New Era Field from 2016 to 2019 and Bills Stadium in 2020, the Erie County complex became known as Highmark in 2021 after reaching a naming rights agreement with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York.

The 71,608-capacity stadium underwent its first expansions in 1984 and 1992, followed by a major renovation in 1994 that saw the installation of more executive and club seating as well as the largest video scoreboard in the U.S. at the time. Additional multi-million dollar renovations came after in 1998, 2007 and 2013. Construction of the 62,000-seat, $1.35 billion New Highmark Stadium is underway across the street and is set to replace the existing Highmark Stadium for the 2026 NFL season.

Parking and Admission at Highmark Stadium

Guests attending Buffalo Bills games should check the team’s website for the most current parking details.

Parking lots open four hours before Bills games and close after traffic clears, which is approximately one hour after the game ends. Day-of stadium parking for Bills games costs $40. The stadium is cashless, so parking passes must be purchased by credit card. Most parking lots at Highmark Stadium allow tailgating, except for the Administrative Lot, Team Member Lot, Training Center Lot, Tunnel Lot and Youth Stadium Lot.

The stadium also offers Bus & Limo parking, which must be purchased in advance by calling the Buffalo Bills Ticket Office at 1-877-228-4257. Buses and limos will be turned away if they arrive on game day without a permit purchased in advance. The stadium offers a tailgating atmosphere for bus and limo passengers in the Tailgate Village within the Bus & Limo Lot.

Highmark Stadium Bag Policy

Highmark Stadium follows the NFL’s bag policy, which allows clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags to be carried into the stadium as long as they don’t exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12.” They also allow small clutch bags approximately the size of a hand, as well as one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags. Additional clothing and blankets can be carried in loosely.

Highmark Stadium Capacity & Seating Options

The Sideline Clubs at Highmark Stadium offer some of the best views in the stadium, as well as amenities to protect guests from the elements, including covered seating and radiant heaters to keep you warm on cold days. The clubs also feature private restrooms, upscale concessions and HD televisions.

If you want to maximize your comfort at the game, Indoor Clubs offer a climate-controlled environment and plush, theater-style seating. All food and drinks are included with M&T Bank Club seats and guests have access to a full buffet, dessert, beer, wine and spirits.

Keon Coleman Takes Highmark Stadium Tour 'Makes Catch'

Rookie Keon Coleman just made his Highmark Stadium debut. Sort of.

Someday soon, it'll all be for real. Helmets and uniforms. Fans and Josh Allen. TDs and victories. All of it. But right now?

It's about Keon Coleman visiting Orchard Park in the wake of the Buffalo Bills having selected him at the top of their 2024 NFL Draft, as Coleman comes to Buffalo via the No. 33 pick ...

And has hit the ground running as a personality already being embraced by Bills Mafia.

And if you liked Keon before (join the club, as QB Josh Allen likes him, too), you'll love him once you see his joy upon visiting his new home at Highmark Stadium.

Coleman is bundled up for a chilly spring day ... no uniform yet. But he still couldn't resist "running a route'' as he first reached down to touch the end zone turf, and then took off for the other end of the field, 100 yards away.

The vision? The rookie in street clothes imagined himself scoring a touchdown.

And when you check out the clip of Coleman’s visit - and then eventually watch the Bills' full video?

You'll start to imagine it as well.

Keon Coleman visits Highmark Stadium for the first time (video)

As is the time honored tradition, Keon Coleman visited Orchard Park and One Bills Drive the day after the team selected him at the 2024 NFL draft.

It took an extra 24 hours to happen after the Bills traded out of Round 1, but Coleman comes to Buffalo via the No. 33 overall selection .

Upon visiting his new home at Highmark Stadium, Coleman couldn’t help but have a little fun. The new rookie receiver ran all the way across the field and imagined himself scoring a touchdown.

A clip of Coleman’s visit can be found below:

USA: New Highmark is taking shape - construction update

01.05.2024 10:55 source: StadiumDB.com; author: Jakub Ducki

Steel and concrete

I went on vacation and came back and was like, ‘Holy cow. We’re up on the second level here, said Steve Ranalli, president of the Erie County Stadium Corp., the state entity overseeing the project. By mid-April 2024, around 1,000 metal parts had been installed , but around 20,000 pieces of steel will be needed to finish the first two stages of construction. In total, around 25 000 tonnes of metal will be needed to complete the entire project, which will cover levels three to five.

According to the plans, some of the steel is produced close to the site of the project. 60% of the metal that will be used in the 62,000-seat stadium project will be created in New York State, and almost all of the steel will come from the United States.

The concrete for the foundations is about 90% complete. New utilities have also been installed around the stadium. One of the arena's ramps will soon be filled with cement to finish the foundations in the south-east corner of New Highmark Stadium . Prefabricated concrete stairs will be placed around the bowl.

Is construction progressing as expected?

In February 2024, steel began to be placed on the lower levels of the crater, which is the foundation of the stadium, and in April metal can already be seen 15 metres above ground zero. State officials have said they expect work on the second phase to start at the beginning of the quarter, so at this point all construction is working to schedule .

According to Paul Gianadda, the manager of the entire project, the most important thing is to be consistent and not be complacent. Despite his cool-headed assessment of the situation, a completely different view is taken by Steve Renalli, who finds it exciting to come on site every day and see the progress being made quickly.

April 2024-What's being built?

Most of the work involves the second level near the north entrance to the stadium, but that is not all. Utility work is being carried out within the arena. There are 6 cranes working on site at the same time , 4 are outside the stadium and 2 are located in the crater. The height of the tallest of the cranes is as high as 105 metres.

On the eastern side of the construction site, plywood is being laid to help show workers where the connections between levels are. On the southern side, the technology centre is also already under construction, as the deadline for the building is a year tighter to be able to test the technology inside as soon as possible.

As of April 2024, around 400 people are working on site . This is a slight increase compared to previous weeks, but in the coming months, the number of stadium builders can be expected to increase significantly to as many as 1,000. The estimated peak of the workforce will bend around 1,500, with workers from other trades such as electrical and masonry also included.

Earlier this month, 84 local companies were contracted to work on the billion-dollar project, and more than half of them are already working on site. New York State and Erie County, as the entities that put up a total of $850 million, are monitoring the progress of the construction as well as whether individual companies are doing the contracted work.

The official groundbreaking ceremony for New Highmark Stadium took place on June 5, 2023, with the facility scheduled to be ready in July 2026. The arena will be used by the NFL club Buffalo Bills.

You did it.  You got tickets to go see the Bills.  Now you're planning out your day.  The question is, "What can you bring into the stadium with you?"

The annual Blue Vs. Red practice is being held at Highmark Stadium tonight.  For many of the players, it will be the first time they will be able to see Bills Mafia in their natural habitat.  They'll be able to experience at least a little taste of what it will be like on a game day.

For many of the fans, it's their first time seeing the team on the turf with their own eyes.  It really is a whole different experience to be at the game.  You can follow the team all year from your couch, but there's something different about being in the stadium when history happens.

A free practice session is a great opportunity for a family that might not be able to afford to watch them any other time throughout the season. So if this is your first time going to the stadium, you need to know that there are some things that you won't be able to bring in with you and yes, they check at the door.

  • Weapons (knives, box-cutters, firearms, etc.)
  • Any other item deemed dangerous or inappropriate

Bags/Purses

If you do plan to bring a bag or purse into the stadium, remember they have to fulfill these requirements:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12", or
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar), or
  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand (4 ½" x 6 ½"), with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.

Things you CAN bring:

Luke Combs Breaks Attendance Records At Each Stop Of First Three Weekends On ‘Growin’ Up And Gettin’ Old’ Stadium Tour

stadium tour highmark stadium

Luke Combs is doin’ it BIG.

The country superstar kicked off his headlining 2024 stadium tour at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin back on April 12th, and has also played Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, New York and Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania in subsequent weeks.

And today, it was revealed that he performed to record-breaking crowds during each of the first three weekends of the tour:

“He achieved the highest single-night and two-night attendance at Milwaukee’s American Family Field with 44,752 and 90,828 attendees, respectively, the highest two-night attendance at Buffalo’s Highmark Stadium with 99,671 attendees, and the highest-selling and highest-grossing concert at University Park, PA’s Beaver Stadium with 73,339 total attendees.”

I mean, just insane numbers and it’s only just the beginning of his extensive Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old trek, which also features multiple stops at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium, Santa Clara’s Levi’s® Stadium and more.

The North Carolina native is also the most-nominated artist at this year’s ACM Awards, coming in with eight in total for the coveted Entertainer of the Year award, Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (Gettin’ Old, as artist and producer), Single of the Year (“Fast Car,” as artist and producer), Song of the Year (“Fast Car”) and Music Event of the Year (“Different Round Here” with Riley Green).

Mr. Combs is on an absolute tear right now, at the height of his career, and like I said, the tour is slated to run through August.

Everybody loves Keon Coleman: Former FSU wide receiver shows personality with the Bills

stadium tour highmark stadium

How can you not like Keon Coleman ?

The former Florida State wide receiver hasn’t played a down yet but has become the darling of the NFL after being drafted No. 33 to the Buffalo Bills in the 2024 NFL Draft.

In the last two weeks, Coleman has not been afraid to express himself and show his personality.

His fun, good-natured approach has made him an internet sensation.

'I ain’t no golfer - I’m Tiger WishHeCould.'

A recent video that surfaced on social media showed Coleman’s NFL Combine meeting with the Bills. When asked what he does after football, he gave a hilarious, yet genuine answer.

“I’m chilling at the house, golfing. I bowl a little bit,” he responded.

Then, in a follow-up question about his golf game. His response was:

“I ain’t no golfer - I’m Tiger WishHeCould.”

With golfing becoming Coleman's biggest trend, on Tuesday, Top Golf in Dallas (TX) posted a video of Coleman with content creator Roger Steele playing a game called 'Block Party.'

With only five shots, the golfer can hit anywhere on the virtual golf field and will gather points. The loser points had to do 50 pushups. It was unclear who won this virtual golf game, but what was clear was who had fun.

Keon Coleman's first visit to the Buffalo Bills facility

Once Coleman made it to Buffalo, he was a kid in a candy store. The Bills media production released Coleman's 24-hour visit.

Pick your poison in what stood out during Coleman's trip to Buffalo.

It could be his short story video about his first NFL visit to Buffalo. On his way to the Bills facility, he recalled looking for a swimming pool to work out in and ended up finding an ice rink instead.

"The last thing I was expecting was an ice rink," Coleman reacted. "An ice rink. I'm like, what am I supposed to do with that? That is out of the ordinary."

Or it could be Coleman trying out the Bills' cold chamber in the athletic training room for the first time. Amazed by the smoke around the chamber, he requested to turn the lights off and impersonate WWE superstar The Undertaker.

Maybe it was when he ran down to the field at Highmark Stadium, his name on the jumbotron, to complete his tour of the facility.

Keon Coleman's yellow jacket from Macy's

You can't help but smile when Coleman is in the room. Even though he can brighten anyone's day, his yellow winter jacket was brighter.

During his 24-hour visit, Coleman was rocking a black t-shirt, a chain with the No. 4 on, and a yellow jacket complete his outfit.

It was a jacket he bought on sale at Macy's when he was still at Michigan State. It only cost him $79.89, according to the Louisiana native.

When asked about it, he emphasized where he got it from and how much it cost, especially during his introduction to the local press while giving a little fashion advice to the media.

"It was a nice little deal," he explained. "You can get a trench coat for like $100. (It's a) nice little (jacket)...I'll take you up there personally."

Coleman hopes to buy a couple more jackets in blue and red.

Keon Coleman spoke out about missing the College Football Playoff

While his time at FSU is behind him, Coleman had no problem telling some FSU stories to former NFL quarterback and now an analyst for ESPN Robert Griffin III's podcast, 'RGIII and The Ones.'

During the podcast, he was asked about missing the College Football Playoff despite going undefeated and being the ACC champs.

“We did everything y’all told us to do," he said in RGIII's podcast. "Beat everybody y’all put on the schedule. Did everything right, and we was still like, what more could we have done?”

As frustrated Coleman was when FSU was snubbed, he understood the political side when he found out that losing quarterback Jordan Travis to injury contributed to missing the playoffs.

The Seminoles went on to play the Georgia Bulldogs in the Capital One Orange Bowl . Coleman didn't play that game, and the Seminoles lost 63-6.

'He's a confident kid': What Keon Coleman brings to Bills offense

Brandon Beane liked what he saw in Coleman, and he first watched him last year at FSU's season opener against LSU.

When Coleman ran a slow 40-time at the NFL Combine, Beane murmured that he could fall to the Bills under their laps.

After trading out the first round, it was the right time for him to select Coleman as their first pick in the second round.

"He's a confident kid," Beane said about Coleman. "He's a dog. However you want to say it, he'll bring some attitude and energy to our room. "

Beane likes his size and how he carries his body as a 6-foot-4, 215-pound wide receiver. He also loves the physicality and athletic traits he brings to the Bills' offense, something that is needed for Buffalo after Stefon Diggs's departure.

Coleman is likely to be focused as an outside receiver. Beane said he wouldn't avoid using him in the slot or returning punts on special teams.

While Coleman might not make a cornerback miss, his catch radius, ability to beat DBs in 50-50 balls, and yards after catch can make up for his lack of speed. Quarterback Josh Allen can work with that.
