The Pierces are a band based in Los Angeles, California, United States who formed in 2000. The band is made up of sisters Catherine and Allison Pierce, and they have released five studio albums since their debut the year they formed.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, United States to a guitar playing father and a painter mother, it’s fair to say that the Pierce sisters had a unique childhood. Their parents were, for lack of a better term, hippies who saw more worth in giving their kids an education in arts and culture that regular schooling. So Catherine and Allison were home-schooled while travelling all over the United States, and alongside that, both sisters showed a natural talent for singing, dancing and performing. Unsurprisingly, their parents encouraged this and talked the duo into performing anywhere they could, be it at parties or weddings thrown by their family, or at church fetes that they happened to be in town to see.

Before long, Catherine and Allison began to write songs together, but any career in music that they would undertake the put off until they’d finished studying at the Auburn University in Alabama, United States. Or so they thought. A friend of theirs sent a tape that the duo made to Sony Records, who were so impressed that they signed them to their 550 Music imprint. Unfortunately, their 2000 self-titled debut album wasn’t promoted as well as it could have been, and the record sunk without a trace. The sisters were hooked though, they knew they had what it takes to land a record deal so they relocated to New York City in order to land a new deal. By 2005 they had succeeded, releasing “Light Of The Moon” with the Universal Music Group.

Ever since then, the band have become one of the most critically folk-rock artists around, supporting everyone from Coldplay to Lissie and recording with the likes of the All-American Rejects. Even with well over a decade and a half’s worth of touring and recording experience, The Pierces are a band that continue to grow and improve with every show and every record released. For that, they come highly recommended.

Live reviews

Versatile singer and multi instrumentalist El May and her band played a well received warm up set featuring material from her recently released CD. Her style and music fits in well with the headliners, who attracted a good crowd to the Academy2 in Manchester, which proved a very suitable venue. The Pierces took to the stage at 9.00 pm, opening their set with "Elements" from their new CD. The sisters look great in their contrasting colours (dark haired Allison in white and blonde Catherine in black) and they immediately strike up a rapport with the enthusiastic audience which lasts throughout the set. They are complemented by their band, all in black and demonstrating the skill and flexibility to enable them to reproduce the sound of the sister's recorded output accurately. There is a harder edge to the songs in the live environment, but the band ensure that delicate moments from the records are not lost. While the music borrows from many genres, from folk to pop and rock, it is dominated by the sister's immaculate vocal harmonies - they are certainly able to produce their sound live and their vocals cut through the backing music to stamp their authority on the band's sound. Catherine tends to be more mobile while Allison swaps between acoustic and electric guitar playing rhythm on all tracks in the main set. The set showcases their new CD "Creation", but includes some of the important songs from their back catalogue, including "It will not be forgotten", the quirky "I put your records on" and main set closer "You'll be mine". Of the new material the songs "Creation", "Monsters", "Honest Man" and "Kings" stuck in my mind, but in all honestly there was not a dull moment in the set and I liked every number performed. Vocals are shared evenly between the sisters and all of the songs feature their trademark harmonies. Between numbers there is playful banter and song introductions include anecdotes and explanations which add to the experience.

After the main set Allison and Catherine returned to the stage to perform an unaccompanied take on Simon and Garfunkel's "Kathy's Song" as an encore. They were then joined by the band on "Flesh and Bone" from the new CD before finishing of with a jubilant performance of "Glorious", the perfect song to close on. To quote Allison Pierce as the band introduced their last song; "Manchester, you've been glorious!", but it was the Pierces that were "Glorious" tonight and well worth the 150 mile round trip in my view!

Allison and Catherine Pierce are two beautiful and extremely talented sisters known as The Pierces. They both have unforgettable smoky and sultry voices. Their songs are well written and very melodic.

The Pierces were born in Birmingham Alabama and come from artistic parents. Their father was a guitarist who obviously passed down his musical genes to his daughters. You can see and hear that their musical talents are natural with a raw beauty. They truly are music to my ears. These two sisters were born to sing together as they harmonize perfectly with each other.

The Pierces are definitely in that category of musicians who sound incredible live. They don’t have the need to produce an elaborate stage set up as their performance is already captivating enough for the audience. Their show will have you toe tapping and singing along without even realizing it. They have spent their entire lives performing for others starting as young children singing at parties and weddings.

Their live performance will have you feeling peaceful and in a great mood. It will also cause you to want more. The Pierce sisters are one of the most talented live performers I have ever experienced and truly look forward to seeing them again.

News: The Pierces Announce Full UK Headline Tour For September

the pierces tour

(UK)  The Pierces have announced details of a full UK headline tour in September in support of their new album ‘Creation’ which is released on September 1st. Starting in Edinburgh, the tour takes in 10 cities and includes a show at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on September 23rd.

‘Creation’ is the follow-up to sisters Allison and Catherine Pierce’s 2011 breakthrough album, ‘You & I’. The Alabama-born siblings now reside in California and the relocation can be heard on their radiant new record.

‘Creation’ marks a stunning sonic evolution for the duo. From the opening title track, the thirteen songs retain the breezy, melodious charm of their previous work whilst injecting a world-wise, sun-drenched sparkle. Tracks such as ‘Kings’ and ‘The Devil Is A Lonely Night’ match taut grooves to soaring harmonies and there’s a life-affirming glow to the lolloping stomps of ‘Creation’ (their new single due for release on September 1st), ‘Believe In Me’ and ‘Honest Man’. Elsewhere, folk-pop ballads such as ‘The One I Want’ and ‘Flesh And Bone’ blend Laurel Canyon sing-alongs with melancholic reflections. The Pierces sound at the peak of their powers. Listen to album title track and their forthcoming single Creation below.

Tickets for the tour go on sale on Friday 1st August at 9am.

PIERCE THE VEIL Announces Fall 2023 U.S. Tour; BLABBERMOUTH.NET Presale Available

Platinum-selling powerhouse PIERCE THE VEIL — guitarist/vocalist Vic Fuentes , guitarist Tony Perry , and bassist Jaime Preciado — has announced their fall 2023 North American tour plans. "The Jaws Of Life Tour" will kick off on November 4 in Sacramento and run through December 8 in San Diego.

The band will hit the road on a headline run with L.S. DUNES , DAYSEEKER and DESTROY BOYS in tow. It is truly a stacked lineup that shouldn't be missed!

A special BLABBERMOUTH.NET presale will begin on Wednesday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. EST and end on Thursday, July 27 at 10:00 p.m. local time. When prompted, type in the presale code "BBMPTV2023" to access tickets before the general public. General on-sale will be Friday, July 28 at 10 a.m. local time.

PIERCE THE VEIL dropped their new album "The Jaws Of Life" — their first in seven years — in February via longtime label Fearless Records .

"The Jaws Of Life" marked a welcome return for PTV , with press praise pouring in from Rolling Stone , Uproxx , Huffington Post , Gawker and MTV , among others. The single "Emergency Contact" also landed in the Top 5 at alternative radio.

PIERCE THE VEIL has debuted atop Billboard 's Top Rock Albums, Alternative Albums, and Hard Rock Albums charts twice — first with "Collide With The Sky" (2012) and its follow-up, "Misadventures" (2016). A decade after its release, the already-platinum "King For A Day" shot to No. 1 on Billboard 's Hard Rock streaming chart, driven by the viral #KingForADay hashtag on TikTok .

The band Rolling Stone once described as "hyperactive, progressive post-hardcore," returns with album number five, and it's full of fuzzy guitars, massive melodic hooks, and PTV 's distinct emotional heart. "The Jaws Of Life" is PIERCE THE VEIL at their most raw, crackling with urgency and immediacy. Never predictable, always engaging, PIERCE THE VEIL continue to soar on the strength of highly potent energy, rich musicality, and a scrappy sense of authentic exuberant ambition that's frankly unrivaled. Vic Fuentes , Tony Perry and Jaime Preciado put volatile, angsty, confessional emotions into the music, which is why their songs resonant with so many. "No matter where the band performs, fans will show up," wrote Loudwire . "When you see PIERCE THE VEIL live, you'll understand why."

PTV 's evolution from album to album is nothing less than stunning. The early buzz generated by "A Flair For The Dramatic" (2007) made its follow-up one of the most anticipated albums of 2010. "Selfish Machines" shot to No. 1 on Billboard 's Heatseekers chart. The Chicago Tribune saluted "Collide With The Sky" for its “post-hardcore punk with more than a few nods to QUEEN ." They became a true arena act on "Misadventures" , selling out huge venues without losing the intimate connection with their fans.

PIERCE THE VEIL have long cemented their status as one of the most exciting and relevant acts in their genre — by constantly evolving. With their new album "The Jaws Of Life" debuted at No. 1 on the Hard Music chart, as well is in the Top 3 of the Rock, Alternative, Independent, Vinyl, and Album Sales charts upon release. The album also received press accolades from Rolling Stone , Uproxx , Gawker , The Huffington Post and Associated Press . The single "Emergency Contact" landed in the Top 5 at Alternative Radio, while selling out tours with I PREVAIL and THE USED . They've tallied over 2 billion streams and 500 million YouTube and have earned multiple gold and platinum RIAA certifications — proving that growth is a constant for them.

"The Jaws Of Life" was produced by Paul Meany ( TWENTY ONE PILOTS , YUNGBLUD , WALK THE MOON ),and mixed by Adam Hawkins ( MACHINE GUN KELLY , TURNSTILE , TWENTY ONE PILOTS ). Deadly serious subject matter abounds, but PIERCE THE VEIL enduringly navigates it all with grace. The lyrics continue the Fuentes tradition of painstaking honesty and clever twists of phrase. PIERCE THE VEIL performs at the biggest festivals and is counted among the biggest and brightest of a younger generation of bands. But it all starts with the songs. "The Jaws Of Life" is filled with the kind to keep the PTV fire burning forever.

Step Inside Emma Roberts’s “Grown-up Dollhouse” in LA

By Chelsea Hodson

Photography by Michael P. H. Clifford

Styled by Amy Chin

The home is like a womb,” says actor and producer Emma Roberts (most recently seen in American Horror Story : Delicate ), adding that her new Los Angeles residence is a place where she can feel protected and happy. “I haven’t always had that—I think I lived in 10 houses by the time I was 15—so for me now, having a son, I wanted a place that felt really ours.”

After a few self-proclaimed “failed” attempts at decorating on her own, Roberts turned to star designers Louisa Pierce and Emily Ward of the AD100 firm Pierce & Ward , with whom she had worked on a previous residence. Their first step was simply to repaint the stark white walls a creamy ivory in order to begin bringing warmth, depth, and an air of timelessness to the space. “We want a house to look like it’s been there for 50 years,” says Pierce. “We never want a home to look new.”

Entry way in a home

In the entry hall, a 1950s Italian light fixture, Hunter Douglas window shades, a vintage Welsh spinning chair, a vintage pine accent table, and an antique Persian rug from Nasir’s Oriental Rug Gallery .

powder room

In the powder room, a 19th-century English pine chest was repurposed to create a vanity. Newport Brass sink fittings and Arjumand’s World Floral Spread wallpaper envelops the walls.

Keeping in line with this approach, they retained many pieces of furniture that Roberts already owned, doing things like reupholstering the sofa in the formal living room to give old possessions new life. They also incorporated much of the art that Roberts already had, and made room for her collections of dolls, books, and vintage magazines. “ Minimalism is not my strong suit,” she says with a laugh. “Every house I’ve ever lived in feels a little bit like a cabinet of curiosities.” This element of repurposing, Ward points out, helps ensure the home doesn’t feel overly designed.

“I loved the idea of making my very own grown-up dollhouse ,” Roberts says, explaining that she was smitten with the place after seeing it advertised as a rental on Instagram. On a whim, Roberts went to check it out and ended up asking if the owner would consider selling it. When the owner said yes, it all began to feel meant-to-be for Roberts and her now three-year-old son, Rhodes. “I have a picture of the day we moved in,” Roberts says, smiling. “I’m holding him and it was the most sunny California day, and we were in front of the blue door of our new house. I just remember feeling like we are exactly where we need to be.”

A Capiz Shell Globe light and Bardot burl wood coffee table by RH center the family room. Timothy Oulton sofa in Honey Chenille from F & S Fabrics ; Nickey Kehoe chairs; Swedish stools. Artworks on the rear wall include photographs of Joni Mitchell and Graham Nash by Henry Diltz and Debbie Harry by Maripol , and a limited-edition silkscreen of Mitchell from Woodstock Leisure Syndicate inspired by a photograph by Gijsbert Hanekroot .

On her first visit, Roberts had taken one look at the cabinets in the living room and thought, “I can put all my books there.” At the time, the doors were inset with chicken wire, so anything on the shelves would be on full view. Pierce and Ward changed the open wire to solid caning to help create a sophisticated neutral backdrop for the room. This way, Roberts can continue collecting all the mismatched paperbacks she likes without the pressure to style them in any way. On nearby open shelves, many of her prized vintage editions are on display, amplifying the feeling of coziness and adding to the literary atmosphere.

It’s clear a reader lives here. Roberts and her best friend Karah Preiss have run the beloved Belletrist book club since 2017, and two years later, the two started Belletrist Productions, which has produced two television shows so far ( First Kill on Netflix, and Tell Me Lies on Hulu). In this role, Roberts is often reading several books at once.

In the living room, a Radius coffee table by Nickey Kehoe stands between a pair of Louisa club chairs by Pierce & Ward and a sofa upholstered in a Rose Tarlow Melrose House glazed linen. Custom curtains of bamboo silk.

Rhodes has his own mini library in his room, in addition to his first “big boy bed.” The ceiling is covered in a Mulberry Home wallpaper depicting flying ducks because, Roberts explains, “I remember as a kid, whatever’s on your wall and your ceiling is seared into your brain for the rest of your life. So I wanted to make it extra cozy and fun, but not too overwhelming.”

Roberts calls the primary bath her “happy place.” It’s where her son gets ready for bed and, later, where she likes to soak with a book. Right now, she’s reading an advanced copy of The Coin by Yasmin Zaher, which comes out in July. Roberts recently finished The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis, which she recommends wholeheartedly, and After Henry, a 1992 collection of essays by her literary hero Joan Didion , which she bought on Etsy from Womb House Books. This was the last book by Didion on Roberts’s list—she was saving it, because she didn’t want to have read all of her books. Next to the tub stands a bar cart that the design team cleverly repurposed to hold Roberts’s favorite candles and bath salts, as well as Rhodes’s bath toys.

The kitchen , where Roberts makes French toast for Rhodes many mornings, is another favorite area. She recalls feeling that something about the room wasn’t quite right, and the design team told her it needed an island. Roberts was on the fence but now loves the addition. “It’s a game changer,” she admits. “It’s completely changed how we live in the kitchen. It’s just so much easier to cook and so much easier to sit.” When she saw the island, she asked if it was custom-made. Pierce and Ward began laughing and revealed that it was actually a ready-made piece from Urban Outfitters. Roberts recalls them saying proudly, “High-low, baby!”

bedroom pink bedspread

John Derian’s Rose Mosaic Forest fabric—used on the bed and for the curtains—defines the primary bedroom. Samarcande pendant light from Ebur ; vintage artwork; antique Persian rug.

That open-minded approach has resulted in rooms that look to the past for inspiration while also making plenty of space for living in the moment. Things feel luxurious, but never precious. “A room is never done,” Ward says. “You need to breathe new life into spaces all the time.” So, even though the collaboration between Roberts and Pierce & Ward is complete for now, the design allows for change and growth.

Hanging on a wall of the formal living room is a 1968 Julian Wasser portrait of Didion—the iconic shot of her in front of her Corvette Stingray with a cigarette dangling between her fingers. The photo—one of Roberts’s most treasured possessions—was a gift from her manager David Sweeney, who has worked with her since she was nine years old. It makes sense that this photo would make its way into Roberts’s new home—Didion evokes Hollywood literary glamour in the same way Pierce & Ward’s design does. Here, history and beauty coexist and evolve as Roberts and Rhodes continue to write new stories.

  • Panoramic Tour of Moscow: See Moscow beyond the postcard images on a private excursion by car through the city streets including a drive along the banks of the Moskva River. Visit the famous Bolshoi Theatre, pass by Gorky Park and the Novodevichy Convent, and admire the city from on high at the Sparrow Hill observation platform.
  • Moscow Historical City Centre Guided Walking Tour : Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of one of the world’s biggest metropolises and discover local haunts on foot, including the Red Square, the Kremlin and the multi-coloured domes of St Basil’s Cathedral.
  • Armory Chamber tour: Explore the endless treasures of this unique museum, displaying the wealth accumulated by Russian rulers from the 12th century until the October Revolution of 1917. Walking through the exhibition halls is a journey through the centuries.
  • Moscow Metro Tour : Go deep underground on a subway tour of the famous Moscow metro. The world’s deepest metro system is renowned for its palatial, art-adorned stations, complete with marble columns and chandeliers.

On your first day, you’ll be treated to a panoramic, drive-by tour of Moscow to get a feel for the immense scale of one of the world’s most rapidly developing urban centres. The city’s history unfolds in real-time as you pass lavish imperial mansions, solemn Soviet structures and luxurious modern shopping centres.

Day two kicks off exploring Moscow’s historic centre on foot, followed by a tour of the Kremlin, the seat of Russian power and political intrigue for centuries. Stand in the Red Square, surrounded by the stunning architecture as you hear stories of the people and events behind many of Moscow’s most iconic landmarks.

On your final day, we’ll head beneath the city for a tour of the Moscow Metro and its famously ornate underground stations. Art lovers should hit up one of Moscow’s many world-class galleries such as the Tretyakov State Gallery, the Pushkin Museum or Garage, Moscow’s cutting-edge contemporary art museum. History fans can follow a Soviet trail through the city including Stalin’s Bunker, while those seeking a more indulgent experience can browse trendy neighbourhoods like Kitay Gorod or shop for everything from fashion to kitsch souvenirs at the enchanting Izmaylovo Flea Market. Foodies can head to one of the countless speciality stores sampling vodka, caviar and chocolate.

If you only have a few days to spend in Moscow, this tour will ensure you make the most of your time in the city. Let the experts navigate you through this complex and occasionally overwhelming capital, giving you plenty of time to soak up the city’s most unmissable attractions.

Russia Moscow Tour

Day 1 Panoramic city tour

Welcome to the glorious capital of Russia, Moscow! You’ll be met by your driver at the airport and taken to your centrally located hotel.

After check-in and rest, meet your private guide at the hotel lobby for a comprehensive tour of Moscow by car. Visit the starkly contrasting Theatre Square to see the stunning Bolshoi Theatre, pass Tverskaya Street, the city’s main boulevard and home to the landmark Yeleseyevskiy Grocery Store.

You’ll enjoy a panoramic drive along the Moskva River, where a huge, controversial state of Peter the Great was erected. Pass by the legendary Gorky Park and the White House before a stop at the architecturally stunning Novodevichy Convent, and the observation platform at Sparrow Hills, for a bird’s eye view over this staggering megalopolis.

Day 2 Red Square and Kremlin

After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the historical city centre. Stroll through the Red Square, the hub of cultural life in Moscow, with its elaborate ‘stone flower’ fountain and fantasy-like St Basil’s Cathedral – a postcard-perfect symbol of the nation. Admire the grandiose façade of GUM, the city’s most luxurious shopping centre, and visit Alexander’s Garden, with its eternal flame and the chance to watch a changing of the guards.

Break for lunch before continuing on a tour of the Kremlin and Armoury Chamber, famous of its collection of tsarist fashion, with regalia such as jewel-encrusted crowns, orbs and sceptres as well as arms and armour, exotic gifts from the leaders of faraway lands, and an illustrious case of Imperial Faberge eggs.

As an option* spend an evening on a sumptuous dinner cruise, taking in the stunning sights and city lights of this mesmerising metropolis by night.

Day 3 Metro and Arbat Street

Start a day with a tour of Metro, stopping on the way to marvel at some of the most elaborately decorated stations of the world-famous Moscow subway system. Take a stroll along Old Arbat street - the most famous street in Moscow. Through the centuries Arbat used to be one of the most bohemian places in Moscow. Today Arbat is a promenade full of small cozy cafes and street life.

The afternoon is free for you to either enjoy the rest of the day on your own or choose among optional excursions to explore more of Moscow. Visit the Tretyakov Gallery or Pushkin State Museum to admire Russian art. Join locals for a stroll at the Gorky or VDNH park.

Visit beautiful Kolomeskoye Estate or Izmailovo Kremlin, or spend a day exploring the beautiful city of the Golden Ring (Russian province) - Sergiev Posad. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your departure to your next destination.

Antonio Pierce-led Raiders ‘putting in that work’ together during offseason

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - NOVEMBER 12: Interim head coach Antonio Pierce of the Las Vegas Raiders laughs with linebacker Robert Spillane #41 on the field before their game against the New York Jets at Allegiant Stadium on November 12, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Raiders defeated the Jets 16-12. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

HENDERSON, Nev. — The day linebacker Robert Spillane signed with the Las Vegas Raiders last March, he made his way to the weight room to get a workout in. When he got there, he saw defensive end Maxx Crosby , offensive tackle Kolton Miller and other veterans already working with the training staff.

“The leaders of the team were showing that they’re not too big to come in and work every day in the offseason,” Spillane said Monday. “So, that inspired me to stick around here for the majority of the offseason and to encourage other guys. You know, get in the building. It’s free meals, free workouts. You get to be around the boys. I was really proud of the guys that stuck around and showed that they’re putting in that work.”

The Raiders started Phase 1 of their voluntary offseason program Monday. During the next two weeks, they’re limited to holding meetings, strength and conditioning and rehab. It’s essentially the ramping-up period ahead of the start of OTAs next month.

For weeks, however, the Raiders have already had dozens of players in the facility regularly. The players weren’t allowed to formally interact with coaches or members of the front office until Monday, but they’ve been working out, receiving treatment from the training staff and spending time with each other.

Glad to be back 🏴‍☠️ #RaiderNation pic.twitter.com/Hqomh1cFpk — Las Vegas Raiders (@Raiders) April 15, 2024

The movement started shortly after Super Bowl LVIII in February. Given that’s usually a time of year players use to relax, it surprised the coaching staff.

“It’s shocking,” coach Antonio Pierce said in February. “I don’t know why, but they seem to like to be around a little bit more. They seem to understand what they can do to get better and help us get better and win. There’s some meat on the bone and guys felt like it’s unfinished business. The season ended and they wanted more.

“I think we created a culture and a fit at the building where it’s OK to hang out. We’re not going to step on your toes. I give ’em a wave when I see ’em, but I don’t check in and see if they’re doing this and that. We’re going to see results when we get out there in the spring and, more importantly, when we get to training camp.”

Some notable players who have been regulars at the facility this offseason include Crosby, Spillane, Miller, receiver Davante Adams , quarterback Aidan O’Connell , center Andre James and defensive tackle John Jenkins . Their collective leadership has set an example for the other players.

Much-happier Raiders WR Davante Adams makes it clear: 'This is where I want to be'

“AP challenged me early and (told me) it’s not just about me,” Crosby said. “There’s a lot of really good players, but the great ones bring others up. I took that personally. Guys like Spillane and John Jenkins and other dudes, it helps when you’ve got guys like that coming in because it gives the young guys no other option but to be here. We wanted to be here and work together and just continue building what we already started.”

For all of the good vibes Pierce brought during his nine games as interim coach last season, the Raiders finished with just an 8-9 record and missed the playoffs. The players’ consistent presence in the facility this offseason is undoubtedly a byproduct of their belief in Pierce, but it’s also a sign of knowing they need to be better in 2024.

“I feel like this team has all of the potential,” Crosby said. “We have more than enough talent to go out there and achieve great things. But all that is bulls— unless you go out there and do it yourself.”

Although the Raiders’ level of player participation this offseason is uncommon in the NFL , it’s reminiscent of how things operate in college. College football players are typically on campus for eight or nine months a year for classes, spring camp, fall camp and the season. That has made it a smooth transition for some of the younger players on the roster.

“You’re with your guys the whole offseason in college,” O’Connell said. “I took a couple of weeks off right after the season to get away from football and rest my mind, but I like to be doing stuff throughout the year. So, even in those couple weeks, I got a little stir-crazy. I was itching to get back.”

Raiders NFL Draft 2024 guide: Picks, predictions and key needs

It also doesn’t hurt that the Raiders have a state-of-the-art facility. In this year’s NFLPA player team report card , the franchise ranked third in the league in the weight room category, fifth in food/cafeteria, nutritionist/dietician, locker room and training room, seventh in strength coaches and 13th in training staff.

“It just goes to show how great of a city Vegas is and I think it also goes to show (the quality of) the strength staff that we have here,” James said Monday. “Why would you go out and pay thousands of dollars for training when you have some of the best equipment and some of the best crew here always available? There’s not really anywhere else you would want to go.”

Teams aren’t yet allowed to conduct any on-field work, but the last couple of months were impactful when it came to strengthening the culture that Pierce began to instill last season. It has had a contagious effect that has spread among returning players and newcomers alike.

“It looks different,” Pierce said last month. “The players are protective of it. … We’re checking badges. We’re checking resumes. We’re checking how you are. That’s important to us. … Being a Raider is different. We want that fit to be perfect.”

Raiders NFL mock draft 3.0: Filling the biggest need at No. 13 — and it's not a QB

The players have been taking their workouts seriously, of course, but the atmosphere in the facility has been loud, loose and personable. That’s indicative of the fact players have been in the facility so frequently because they genuinely enjoy it, not because they feel like they have to be there.

“I know the guys that went off campus, they still did their work and they’re still putting in that work, but it’s always good to be around each other,” Spillane said. “I think it brings about a level of inspiration both to and from. Guys were asking me, ‘What do you get from these offseason workouts?’ I said, ‘I get inspired by young guys.’ I love getting chased. Those next guys behind me want my job as bad as I want my job. So, how can I keep my job with this team? Just being here inspires me.”

One of the primary reasons former coach Josh McDaniels was fired last season was his inability to create that type of environment. It remains to be seen whether Pierce can maintain this positive vibe, but it’s a strong sign that he was able to cultivate it so quickly.

“That’s how football should be,” Pierce said. “You shouldn’t come to work mad. You should be enjoying every day and every second of the day. … Don’t take it for granted. Love what you do. Be proud that you’re in the Raiders organization. And then, hopefully, you’re around something that we’re building that’s going to be special.”
