“Top Gun: Maverick” Review: Tom Cruise Feels the Need for Speed in Adrenaline-Fueled Sequel

tom cruise first teeth

Rating: 8/10

There are many reasons to like Top Gun . The 1986 Tony Scott movie stars Tom Cruise as Maverick, an arrogant yet talented elite Navy pilot with an addiction to speed, adrenaline and irreverence. He’s all charisma and swagger. Top Gun is an action movie packed with aerobatic stunt sequences. It has a killer soundtrack. There’s a fair amount of melodrama and character growth. Maverick engages in a non-HR-sanctioned — yet somehow sexy — romantic relationship with one of his instructors (Kelly McGillis). And you can simply dig it for its homoerotic content : there’s a bunch of muscled dudes continuously parading themselves in various degrees of undress in front of one other and relishing it.

Top Gun: Maverick , the sequel that’s been more than 30 years in the making and had its release delayed by the pandemic several times, opens exclusively in cinemas on May 27. And it’s one of the few titles I’ve seen in the last year to really justify the extra bother and risk factor of watching it on the big screen.

This cinematic spectacle starts by paying homage to the original movie from its very beginning — with the notes of the “ Top Gun Anthem ” setting the mood — and it never stops. If you liked Top Gun , you’ll enjoy Top Gun: Maverick thoroughly. All the ingredients of the original movie are there.

After more than 30 years, Maverick is still a captain. “You can’t get a promotion. You won’t retire and, despite your best efforts, you refuse to die. You should be at least a two-star admiral by now. Yet here you are,” a frustrated Rear Admiral (Ed Harris) tells Maverick before tasking him with the impossible mission — pun very much intended — of teaching a select group of 12 Top Gun graduates. They’re the best of the best. They’ll have to fly and destroy a uranium-enrichment plant in enemy territory. Getting the pilots out of there alive becomes Maverick’s goal.

Jon Hamm is playing an even less sympathetic and personable boss than he did in Mad Men . He stays on top of Maverick. After all, Maverick’s reputation precedes him — and that’s not a compliment. The movie manages to cast a diverse array of actors — Danny Ramirez, Jay Ellis, Lewis Pullman, Greg Tarzan Davis —  to play the young group of trainee pilots. There’s even a woman — Monica Barbaro — among them. A mustachioed Miles Teller is Rooster, one of the pilots and the son of Maverick’s late partner, Goose (Anthony Edwards). The actors were selected from hundreds of performers to make sure they’d be able to endure the filming conditions inside of actual F-18 jets.

And that’s what justifies buying that theater ticket. Director Joseph Kosinski ( Oblivion ) and his frequent collaborator, cinematographer Claudio Miranda, spent 15 months designing a system to fit six IMAX-quality cameras inside the cockpit of the fighter planes to film the actors while they were actually in the air. (Real Navy pilots took care of the flying, but the actors were also in the cockpit.)

The performers were trained by Cruise on how to optimally frame themselves and operate the cameras while airborne. They also endured a three-month training period led by Cruise to get them acclimatized to aerobatics and flying at a higher g-force level than normal. They started in single-engine airplanes and would later on graduate to the F-18s. “These kids got the hell beat out of them with the g-forces,” Top Gun: Maverick producer Jerry Bruckheimer explains in the film’s press materials. “One g-force is your body weight, they were doing seven times their body weight, like an elephant sitting on your chest.”

Cruise has been open about his desire to do a sequel only if the technology allowed them to show the true experience of a pilot . His insistence and commitment to cinema paid off. Maverick ’s aviation and dogfighting sequences kept me engaged and tense. It’s evident that they aren’t the product of excessive CGI but the result of real stunts. Even the faces of the actors get distorted while flying in such conditions and that’s difficult to fake if shooting on a soundstage.

tom cruise first teeth

Top Gun: Maverick is not all flying and technological prowess though. There’s romance — Maverick rekindles his relationship with bar owner and sailing enthusiast Penny (Jennifer Connelly); a shirtless game of football takes place on the beach; a tragic event ups the dramatic ante; Rooster sings and plays the iconic “Great Balls of Fire” like his dad did; and, even though this isn’t a comedy, I found myself laughing at some very well-written and strategically placed jokes.

Co-screenwriter and frequent Tom Cruise collaborator Christopher McQuarrie almost manages to make Maverick work as a standalone movie. But while this film isn’t just another entry in the catalog of fan-service reboots, the movie does work better when it recreates moments of the original film or pays tribute to Scott’s directing style ( Top Gun: Maverick is dedicated to the memory of the late director). At times you wonder whether McQuarrie got the assignment to cram in as many callbacks to the original movie as possible — and as many shirtless moments for Cruise as well.

tom cruise first teeth

Even if Top Gun: Maverick has been crafted from more of a 2022 sensibility than the previous film, there’s still an awful lot of testosterone here. And that makes it hard for me to be truly charmed by this film and its predecessor.

Maverick manages to look almost the same as he did in the 1980s, donning the uniform of white t-shirt, jeans, bomber jacket and aviator sunglasses; I was a bit taken aback the first time I saw him using his cell phone. He’s too cool to bother wearing a helmet when he takes the Kawasaki motorbike for a spin, yet he’s succumbed to the smartphone addiction like the rest of us. Then I realized he was texting Ice (Val Kilmer) and it all made sense again. The two of them keep the chemistry going even via text message.

Now, if only they could have included “Take My Breath Away” in this new movie somehow — maybe in the brief and very non-revealing sort-of sex scene between Maverick and Penny (filmmakers really were more daring in the ‘80s) — this would have been the perfect sequel.

How Tom Cruise Got His Teeth Done

Being one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, Tom Cruise is no stranger to rumours and controversies.

Tom Cruise’s teeth have been at the centre of it from time and time again. Known for his dashingly good looks and versatility as an actor, the megastar is still flying high even as he approaches his 60s.

Even though the Top Gun star’s looks have changed dramatically throughout the years, it’s his teeth that are always left people with a lot of questions.

So, let’s find out what’s really going on with them.

Who Is Tom Cruise?

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV was born in 1962 in New York and later took on the stage name Tom Cruise.

Since his father was a part of the Canadian Armed Forces, he grew up in Canada, where his interest in acting was first cultivated.

Dubbed “Hollywood’s last real movie star,” he is the stuff of legends.

He’s been gracing the big screen since the 80s, smashing out one hit after another, not letting any of his personal life drama or even his age deter him.

Despite being on top of his game, he has managed to stay elusive, not accounting for the display of some “bizarre” moments here and there.

Young Tom Cruise

It was at the age of 18 that he seriously started to pursue acting, for which he first went to New York and then Los Angeles (LA) – synonymous with Hollywood itself.

Tom Cruise’s Professional Career

Tom got his first role in Brooke Shields’ Endless Love as Billy. However, he went on to play more prominent roles in Taps and The Outsiders . But it was his breakout role in Top Gun that got everyone’s attention.

From there on, it was an upward trajectory for the action star, who went out to star in the critically acclaimed Rain Man, Risky Business, The Color of Money, Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire , and Magnolia , among many others.

He has also been a part of some of the biggest movie franchises, the most successful of them being Mission Impossible , in which he has done many life-endangering stunts as his character Ethan Hunt.

While Mission Impossible 8 is still in the works, he recently starred in part 2 of the cult classic Top Gun .

Tom Cruise Mission Impossible

It goes without saying that this Hollywood A-lister is one of the highest-paid and highest-grossing actors of all time.

He has also won Golden Globes and received nominations for the Academy Awards and British Academy Film Awards. More recently, he was given an honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes film festival 2022.

Does Tom Cruise Have A Tooth Gap?

From a very young age, Tom Cruise’s teeth weren’t exactly “Hollywood dazzling.” They were misaligned and chipped with a pronounced overbite . However, before making his way to Hollywood, he got some dental work done.

We know that was the case because reportedly, he removed the “cap” (another name for dental crown ) from one of his front teeth (probably the one on the right) to add to his character of Steve Randle in The Outsiders .

Young Tom Cruise teeth

It is believed that his teeth were badly damaged as a result of a sports injury involving a hockey puck. The actor did play hockey when he was young, so it’s possible that he knocked his teeth out as a result of that.

A missing tooth on the left side of his upper jaw is also the reason why he has the “middle tooth.” His teeth have shifted to the left, which is why his dental midline is also to the left.

This is actually something that happens when people are missing their teeth. The surrounding teeth shift into the space left behind, which can make them misaligned and crooked.

There are also some other stories about Tom Cruise’s teeth. One involves the former editor-in-chief of The New York Post, Col Allan. Apparently, Tom Cruise’s front teeth fell out when he was having drinks with the journalist.

Allan recounts being “speechless” because of the incident.

At that time, Cruise told Allan that he had lost his teeth after one of his children’s heels struck them while he was playing with them. While the actor had “pleaded” that the information not be made public, that, unfortunately, is not the case anymore.

How Did Tom Cruise Fix His Teeth?

It is believed that the Mission Impossible star had crowns on his teeth. However, it is possible for people to get both crowns and veneers at the same time.

What will suit them better will depend on the condition of their teeth, their location and the severity of their problem. But veneers can also effectively hide the teeth, although it only covers their front surface.

Tom Cruise teeth

Other than that, Tom Cruise may also have had a teeth whitening procedure.

Despite him having a “unitooth” and not the traditionally “perfect” teeth, there are many people who admire his million-dollar smile.

And the reason why it dazzles so maybe teeth whitening treatments.

Keep in mind that dental restorations like crowns and veneers cannot be whitened. You have to take care of your teeth.

And for them to not look too white and stand out from the rest, many people get teeth whitening procedures done.

Did Tom Cruise Have Teeth Surgery?

Tom Cruise’s teeth have undergone a variety of changes during the course of his career. As mentioned before, he had dental crowns at the time of The Outsiders .

Dental crowns usually last for 10-15 years, so he would have needed them replaced. Other than that, his wearing braces at the 2002 premiere of Minority Report is the most widely circulated evidence of him getting dental work done.

Tom Cruise braces

He had ceramic braces at the time since they blend in more with the natural teeth.

From his pictures, you can see that the brackets on his teeth are transparent. Although there’s something else to see if you closely look at his photos from that time: his gums. They appear even.

However, if you look at the photos of Tom Cruise’s teeth now, the gum tissue on his left central incisor is more than that on his right central incisor.

The size of the tooth has also changed. The right tooth is bigger than the left one.

It is possible that the actor had a crown lengthening or gingivectomy procedure in later years.

Some people need these before getting dental crowns. Gingivectomy treatment involves the removal of gum tissue above the tooth so that more of its structure is exposed.

This provides a greater surface area to the crown for bonding and anchorage. It may be the reason why his gum line is not even anymore and why the size of his one tooth is now bigger than before.

Does Tom Cruise Have T eeth Veneers?

It’s more likely that Tom Cruise has dental crowns instead of veneers. That’s because, unlike crowns, veneers only cover the front surface of the teeth.

Tom Cruise teeth now

And considering how damaged his tooth was, Tom Cruise’s dentist might have also recommended him a crown to protect the underlying tooth (provided it’s still there).

Tom Cruise’s veneers wouldn’t have been able to do that as effectively. Although if he did get veneers, Tom Cruise’s veneer teeth would have looked just as natural (not considering the misalignment).

Has Tom Cruise Ever Said Anything About His Teeth?

Tom Cruise remains elusive to this day. The actor hasn’t confirmed or denied anything about his teeth.

We only know that he had work done from his pictures and the fact that he very publicly got braces at the age of 40.

There are many rumours about the Minority Report star that he hasn’t ever said anything about.

Tom Cruise teeth before and after

Despite being in the spotlight for more than 40 years, there isn’t much that people know about him. There was a time when people thought that he had a rhinoplasty or nose job. However, in an interview with Playboy Magazine, he made it clear that it wasn’t the case and “never would” be.

Did Tom Cruise Seek the Right Dental Procedures?

As mentioned before, Tom Cruise does have a million-dollar smile. His dentists would have tried their best to make what they could out of his situation.

It may not have been possible for him to undergo more invasive and extensive procedures because of the time constraints his career put on him. He has constantly been in the spotlight since the 80s.

That said, the actor’s midline could have been better if he had had an implant after he had lost his tooth.

The implants would have acted as a substitute for the natural tooth and not allowed the surrounding teeth to shift. Plus, dental implants Turkey would cost him a little.

With a crown placed on top of the titanium screw, Tom Cruise’s smile teeth would have looked even more glamorous since his midline would have been at the centre of his face.

Concluding Remarks

Tom Cruise’s teeth have been the subject of much debate and discussion by his fans. His teeth certainly deviate from the Hollywood norm. However, looking back at his photos, you can see that from a very young age, Tom Cruise’s teeth alignment was not normal.

Of course, that would have been a problem once he started appearing in big movies, so he got his teeth fixed through cosmetic restorations like crowns or veneers or both.

Still, Tom Cruise’s dental midline (the parting line between the two front teeth) is shifted to the left. This has been the case from the very beginning and remains so to this day.

His dentists would have tried their best to do what they could with his teeth in a short amount of time, and his smile does look great.

When it comes to smiles, Tom Cruise ’s teeth might take the cake — unless you look very closely . More than three decades in to his career, Tom is still one of the hottest actors in showbiz. He’s starring in the upcoming film Mission: Impossible — Fallout , scheduled for release on July 27, and we know his impeccable acting chops and winning good looks will make the movie a great one. No matter how phenomenal he is as an actor, we can’t help but notice that Tom’s smile consists of a rather odd middle tooth .

Don’t believe us? Check out photos of Tom Cruise’s middle tooth!

While he has amazing pearly whites, Tom’s 100-watt grin has one tooth that’s just a bit out of place. You can see from the photo that his teeth aren’t exactly symmetrical with the center of his face. Many have noticed that the 55-year-old actor’s right front tooth is just a tad askew, and has been widely referred to as his “middle tooth” for quite a while now.

Tom has certainly put in the time and effort to achieve the smile he has today. At age 40, just after his split from Nicole Kidman the Hollywood vet got braces to address an overbite and misalignment problems. He proudly showed them off while walking the red carpet at the 2002 premiere of Minority Report .

Tom has never been shy about flaunting his less-than-perfect smile. When he played Steve Randle in 1983’s The Outsiders , a young Tom voluntarily removed the cap from a front tooth that had been chipped by a flying puck in a hockey match. We’re impressed with his willingness to do anything for his job, even if it puts a flaw out in the public eye.

At the Jerry Bruckheimer Hand and Footprint Ceremony, Tom Cruise sported a set of beautifully-shaped white chompers. He attended the Hollywood event in 2010, 25 years after his role in The Outsiders , and we couldn’t be more impressed with the transformation his teeth went under.

At the Rock of Ages premiere in 2012, the Hollywood veteran showed off a new haircut and his well-known grin. The cupid’s bow of his lip gives a good indication of the asymmetry in his smile. Tom has never stopped gracing the silver screen and landing iconic roles since his career launched at 19.

Last October, Tom attended a benefit screening of the film he starred in, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back . He came out to Knoxville to support Variety – The Children’s Charity of Eastern Tennessee, and was smiling big during his red carpet appearance. Some fans also noticed that, aside from his middle tooth, his left incisor appeared to be bigger than his right one.

tom cruise front tooth

During an interview at The Mummy fan event in New York City, Tom flashed a smile showing off his pearly whites. You can tell from looking up close that his right incisor lines up with his nose. Despite this slight imperfection, his smile has come a long way from his days playing the part of Steve Randle. While Tom has never come out and stated exactly what he had done, many dentists speculate that, on top of his braces, he received porcelain veneers and most likely had whitening treatments.

There’s a reason Tom Cruise’s smile is irresistible: his confidence.

Despite his dental imperfection, Tom has never lacked confidence. In 1985, only a couple of years after his career took off, the genetically blessed star explained why he decided to embrace his newfound sex symbol status. “It doesn’t bother me at all,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “I mean, I don’t, like, resent it. I’m not tortured at night by it. You know, I’m actually very happy that people, you know, think enough of my work to feel that way.” His choice to embrace the public perception of his appearance has only driven success to his career, even now in 2018.

Many fans are also surprised to find out that Tom is actually only 5 feet 7 inches tall, which isn’t the “typical size” of someone you’d think would play Jack Reacher. In a previous interview, Tom was forced to open up about how his unconventional body type for superhero roles. “You know, [author Lee Child] created the character,” he said. “I had my own opinion that I didn’t say to Lee and then he came back and pretty much reflected what I had felt about it. But had he said ‘look I’d rather not,’ I would not have played the character.”

Although it doesn’t seem like it, the Edge of Tomorrow actor — who was just 20 years old at the time — actually started off his career with a set of chompers that were very discolored and extremely unaligned. According to Heightline , Tom initially fixed this issue with teeth whitening and alignment procedures.

Tom Cruise showed off his beaming smile and perfect pearly whites as he posed at the Producers Guild Awards in LA on Monday night.

But the A-list movie star, now 60, hasn't always had the best smile - sporting crooked teeth in his younger years before getting them fixed.

Images from his time on the 80s movie The Outsiders showed his far from straight gnashers before having a dental work done.

But over the years he has made sure to curate an impeccable grin to make him film star and red carpet ready.

Here MailOnline takes a look at the transformation of his teeth over the years...

Tom Cruise was just 20 and started his acting career in the early 1980s.

Back then like many young people his teeth were misaligned and were also discoloured.

According to Heightline, Tom initially fixed this issue with teeth whitening and alignment procedures.

His teeth are also not symmetrical with the centre of his face which is something you can still notice when you look at snaps of him now.

In addition, when he played Steve Randle in 1983's The Outsiders, a young Tom voluntarily removed the cap from a front tooth that had been chipped by a flying puck in a hockey match.

As The Outsiders called for Cruise to portray a streetwise brawler, the actor felt that revealing his teeth in their natural state would be fitting for the character.

In the film we see his real teeth, with one brown, dead tooth prominently on display in the middle of his mouth.

The cap came straight back over Cruise's teeth in his subsequent movies, and with blockbusters like Risky Business, Top Gun and Cocktail.

Then after his split from Nicole Kidman in 2001, the Hollywood veteran got braces to address an overbite and misalignment problems.

He proudly showed them off while walking the red carpet at the 2002 premiere of Minority Report. He had just turned 40 at the time.

To the surprise of many the actor arrived on the red carpet and interview circuit wearing his visible silver dental brace.

Cruise said at the time that it was to correct his overbite.

Cruise joked to David Letterman, 'I couldn't close my mouth properly for years, so they finally said, 'please, shut your mouth.''

The actor explained he'd taken his children to a dentist to have their teeth checked out, but to his surprise the dentist instead told Cruise that he could benefit from braces.

He wore the brace starting in January 2002 until the October of that year before beginning work on his film at the time - The Last Samurai.

From swoon-worthy Top Gun star to THAT puffy face - and now a deep tan and flowing locks: A look at Tom Cruise's changing appearance

Tom Cruise debuted a bold new look at the 95th Annual Oscars Nominees Luncheon this week, marking his first red carpet appearance in eight months.

The Top Gun: Maverick star, 60, was there to support the 2022 blockbuster summer film that has received several Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.

As one of Hollywood's highest-paid actors, Tom's career in front of the camera has spanned over four decades.

After making his breakthrough with roles in Risky Business (1983) and Top Gun (1986), he became a leading actor in the nineties with roles in The Firm (199) and Jerry Maguire (1996).

1980S - THE EARLY YEARS

Tom was a fresh-faced 24-year-old when he appeared in one of his most famous films: Top Gun.

The actor won the lead role of Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in the action flick, which became the highest-grossing domestic film of the year with $357million.

The star looked worlds away from his current self during this period, which also saw him appear in films like The Color Of Money (1986) and All The Right Moves (1983).

Tom spoke about his rise to fame during this time, saying it was strange being suddenly recognised in the street.

He told Interview magazine: 'I'm really very private, in my own world. Suddenly I was someone walking on the street and people were looking at me and I was thinking, "Jesus, is something hanging out of my nose?"

'It took time to get adjusted to it. It was such a perfect time to do Legend in England. Everyone is looking at you and somehow just moving your hand seems so much more exaggerated.

TURN OF THE MILLENIUM - MOVIE STAR

Tom was firmly established as one of the industry's biggest stars by this time and had a chiselled look to match.

The star looked like a male model when he attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards that year where he was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role in Magnolia.

Tom also sported a longer hairstyle during this period, just months before the end of his marriage to actress Nicole Kidman.

This was also the year the Mission: Impossible franchise kicked off in earnest with the release of the first sequel which made over $500million at the box office.

MID-NOUGHTIES - CONTINUED SUCCESS

Tom had gone with a bolder look a few years later, sporting a much shorter crew cut that he would keep for several years.

This decade was one of the busiest for Tom when he apeared in a slew of successful films including The Last Samurai, Collateral, and War of the Worlds.

He was also gearing up for a return to the Mission: Impossible franchise, with the third instalment released two years later.

Tom would soon embark on one of his most highly publicised relationships when he began dating actress Katie Holmes in Apirl 2005.

Just a few months later in October, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, Suri, who was born in April 2006.

They married in November of that year, with Katie filing for divorce five and a half years later.

2021 - TOM'S PUFFY APPPEARANCE RAISES EYEBROWS

Tom raised eyebrows in October 2021 when he attended a baseball game in San Francisco with a noticeably puffier face.

The father-of-three sparked speculation he had fillers after sporting a fuller face during the LA  Dodgers match.

Dawn Attewell, Registered Aesthetics Nurse at therapyhouse.co.uk told FEMAIL the pictures were a result of 'excessive filler' and 'post-procedure swelling' but he now looks fresher thanks to a 'hair transplant' and 'skin tightening treatments'.

'In the infamous October 2021 picture, you can see that Tom looked swollen and puffy, which could be due to excessive filler, post-procedure swelling, or weight gain.'

'Often, surgical procedures such as a platysmal plasty, or neck lift, combined with a mid-facelift could create this type of swelling in these areas.

However, it wasn't long before Tom was back to his old self as he walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022 with a slimmed down appearance.

PRESENT DAY

Tom returned to the spotlight last year with his first film in four years, To Gun: Maverick.

The fim made over $1billion at the box office - the higest grossing film of is career - and many critics considered it to be an improvement over the original.

Tom is once again sporting longer locks and has been busy in recent months putting the finishing touches on Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning parts one and two.

Part one is due for release in July while franchise fans will have to wait until June 2024 for part two.

Tom Cruise’s Teeth

Tom Cruise's teeth

His teeth were first brought to the public’s attention when he played Steve Randle in 1983’s  The Outsiders . To add to his role as Steve, a young Cruise volunteered to have the cap removed from a front tooth that had previously been chipped as a result of an accident playing hockey, according to this  article .

By the time Risky Business and the 1986 classic, Top Gun came around, his teeth were notably straighter, but the story of Tom Cruise’s teeth did not end in the 1980s!

In 2002, he famously sported fixed braces to the premier of his film ‘Minority Report’, embedding in our psyche that adults can wear braces too. It is reported that a mixture of clear aligners and fixed ceramic braces were used as part of his treatment during this time.

Dr Asif says:

“One of the most interesting things about Tom Cruise’s teeth has been that the mid point between his two central upper teeth (the dental midline) did not match the midline of his face, giving him the appearance of a single prominent front tooth.

I find some of my patients don’t often notice where their dental midline is but for others it’s their reason for seeking treatment. They appreciate that orthodontic treatment can move the teeth and hope that they can achieve a situation where the dental midline and facial midline are coincident, restoring harmony to the face and the aesthetics of their smile.”

Tom cruise teeth

The accomplished American Actor, Tom Cruise has dominated the screens since the eighties. And while his talent has remained consistent throughout his career. The same can’t be said about Tom Cruise’s teeth. The multiple-times Oscar nominee had an iconic smile. And while it’s been along with his best assets, even Tom Cruise’s smile had a humble beginning.

What was wrong with Tom Cruise’s smile

Tom Cruise’ Smile wasn’t naturally perfect, in fact, it was the contrary. When Cruise first rose to fame, his teeth haven’t had all the work of cosmetic dentistry just yet.

Time Cruise’s smile was remarkably misaligned and one of his incisors was oddly prominent. His dental midline was way off-grid where his upper incisor took over it.

In addition to his misalignment, Time Cruise’s teeth were also very stained. And all in all, his smile wasn’t up to Hollywood’s standard.

How did Tom Cruise fix his teeth

To fix Tom Cruise’s teeth, the actor had to go through many years of treatment to fix his smile. To get the perfect he currently has, Tom Cruise couldn’t opt directly for the Hollywood Smile procedure. Because Tom Cruise’s teeth were severely misaligned, he had to get braces first.

Tom Cruise had braces for his teeth around the time he was 40 and reportedly opted for ceramic braces. These types of braces are usually color-matched to your teeth so they’re not very visible. But this was back in 2002, now there are modern options if you wish to have braces minus the chunky look. There’s the Invisalign as well as bilingual braces.

The braces helped get Tom Cruise’s teeth into proper alignment restoring his dental midline. Orthodontics is always the first part of treatment in cosmetic dentistry. Getting the right alignment helps pave way for additional tweaks to polish your smile. Because when your smile is straight, it’s easier to identify other construction problems and opt for the Hollywood Smile.

While many might assume Tom Cruise was too old around the time he sported braces for his teeth, adult braces are in reality very common.

As for the staining, Tom Cruise’s teeth have had whitening to give them a natural glow. But since then, the actor has upgraded his treatments wearing veneers for the ultimate smile.

The Takeaway

Tom Cruise’s teeth took on a pathway similar to his career, rising into fame and perfection. Tom Cruise fixed his teeth in the early 2000s, so the technologies weren’t half as advanced as they are now. Now not only are there more modern and convenient options, but there are affordable ways of getting cosmetic dentistry. Tom Cruise’s teeth might have cost him a fortune, but you can correct more complicated costs for a trivial sum of money. For instance, you can consider the Hollywood Smile in Turkey, and for very low costs you can receive high-quality dental treatments. Especially at the leading dentistry center in Istanbul, Dentakay.

When Did Tom Cruise Change His Teeth? Find Out the Surprising Answer Here.

If you’re a fan of Tom Cruise, you may have noticed that his teeth have changed over the years. But when did Tom Cruise change his teeth? Let’s take a closer look at the Hollywood superstar’s dental journey.

According to various sources, Tom Cruise’s teeth have undergone several changes throughout his career. In the 1980s, he had a chipped tooth that he voluntarily removed the cap from to fit his role in the movie “The Outsiders.” In the early 2000s, he was also photographed wearing braces to correct an overbite.

Since then, Tom Cruise’s teeth have appeared straight and white, leading many to speculate that he may have had additional dental work done. While he hasn’t publicly commented on any further procedures, his smile continues to be one of his most recognizable features.

Early Life of Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise was born on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse, New York. His birth name is Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. He is the only son of Mary Lee and Thomas Cruise Mapother III. His father was an electrical engineer, and his mother was a special education teacher.

Cruise’s parents divorced when he was 11 years old, and he moved with his mother and sisters to various locations in the United States and Canada. As a child, Cruise was diagnosed with dyslexia, which made it difficult for him to read and write. However, he found solace in acting and performed in his high school theater productions.

After graduating from high school, Cruise moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting. He worked odd jobs to support himself while attending acting classes. In 1981, he landed his first major role in the film “Taps.”

Cruise’s early career was marked by a string of successful films, including “Risky Business” and “Top Gun.” However, his teeth were a source of insecurity for him, and he was self-conscious about his crooked smile.

According to sources, Cruise had his teeth fixed in the early 2000s. He underwent dental procedures to straighten his teeth and improve his smile. Since then, he has been known for his signature grin and perfect teeth.

Tom Cruise’s Initial Teeth

When Tom Cruise first entered Hollywood in the early 1980s, his smile was far from perfect. His grin was noticeably crooked and didn’t look natural. The main issue was his top incisor that took over his dental midline. It looked unnatural.

Tom Cruise’s teeth were not always perfect, and he had some dental issues that he needed to fix. The mid point between his two central upper teeth (the dental midline) did not match the midline of his face, giving him the appearance of a single prominent front tooth. This was due to a misalignment of his teeth, which was visible in his early movies.

Despite his teeth, Tom Cruise’s acting skills were exceptional, and he quickly rose to fame. However, as his popularity grew, so did the scrutiny of his appearance. Many fans and critics wondered why he had not fixed his teeth yet.

In 2002, Tom Cruise decided to undergo a dental procedure to fix his teeth. He had ceramic braces, which helped to straighten his teeth and improve his smile. The current perfect line that we all see is the result of constant treatment.

In conclusion, Tom Cruise’s initial teeth were not perfect, but he underwent a dental procedure to fix them. He had ceramic braces that helped to straighten his teeth and improve his smile. Today, Tom Cruise has a perfect smile that he can be proud of.

The Transformation Journey

Tom Cruise’s teeth have gone through quite a transformation over the years. When he first entered Hollywood in the early 1980s, his smile was far from perfect. His top incisor took over his dental midline, making it look unnatural and noticeably crooked.

In 2002, Tom Cruise reportedly had ceramic braces put on his teeth at the age of 40. These braces are often color-matched to your teeth, making them virtually invisible. However, it seems that the braces did not completely solve the problem, as Cruise’s midline was still off, creating the appearance of a so-called “middle tooth.”

According to Dr. Asif, a cosmetic dentist, “The mid point between his two central upper teeth (the dental midline) did not match the midline of his face, giving him the appearance of a single prominent front tooth.”

To correct this issue, Tom Cruise underwent further dental work to align his midline with his face. It is unclear exactly when this procedure took place, but it is believed to have been sometime in the early 2010s.

Today, Tom Cruise’s smile is much more symmetrical and natural-looking. While his teeth may not be perfectly straight, they are certainly an improvement from his early Hollywood days.
