2020 Tour Championship leaderboard: Dustin Johnson goes wire-to-wire to win FedEx Cup, $15 million payout

D.j. dominated the final few weeks of the 2019-20 pga tour season to cash in on monday.

Dustin Johnson finished what he started at the beginning of the FedEx Cup Playoffs by taking home the 2020 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club on Monday. Johnson (-21) won by three strokes over Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas, touching off an insane five-week stretch in which D.J. has lost to just two golfers -- Collin Morikawa at the PGA Championship and Jon Rahm in a playoff at the BMW Championship -- over his last four events.

Coincidentally for Johnson, who led all golfers in playoff scoring by a wide margin after finishing 44 under over the last three weeks' worth of playoffs, a par putt on Monday was his biggest shot. With playing partner Schauffele and Thomas closing on him, D.J. scuffled a bit at the end of the front nine and opened the back with three straight pars. Then he left himself 21 feet for par on the 13th hole with the tournament getting tight. He smashed it into the back of the cup and played the rest of the way in 1 under for the three-stroke win.

"This is a difficult golf course so no lead is really safe," Johnson told NBC. "I knew I was going to have to come out and play really well. ... I hit the fairways when I needed to coming down the stretch. The guys gave me a good fight today."

The stats are staggering . Everywhere you look, there's a different number that tells the story of just how dominant D.J. has been throughout the last part of the year. The fact that only one golfer (Morikawa) has outright beaten him over 72 holes in four of the best fields of 2020 is astonishing and underscores his phenomenal ceiling as a golfer.

The spoils are nice, too. Johnson collects his 23rd career PGA Tour win, a $15 million check and likely the PGA Tour Player of the Year award after winning the Travelers Championship, The Northern Trust and the Tour Championship over these last few months. That's not how his year started out either. D.J. He scuffled to just one top 10 at a full-field even before the PGA Tour paused. Then after winning the Travelers, he shot two 80s and a 78 consecutively before this torrid PGA Championship and playoff run. A short memory is a great thing.

Now Johnson will be long on cash and on the rest of the season. He enters the three-day offseason as the 8-1 favorite to win the U.S. Open in two weeks and among the favorites to win the Masters in November. With the FedEx Cup in his clutches, all that remains in his stellar career is to start stacking up major championship after major championship. He'll have plenty of opportunities over the next few years, and if he keeps playing like this (or anywhere near it), he'll have plenty of those trophies, too. Grade: A+

Here are the rest of our grades for the 2020 Tour Championship.

Xander Schauffele (T2):  Congratulations to the non-handicapped winner of the Tour Championship! Without factoring in the starting scores, Schauffele is your champion of this event, shooting 15 under on the week and riding maybe the hottest putter in the field to his runner-up finish. He should ask for future majors to be played at East Lake given that he's been beaten by just eight golfers over the last four seasons on this golf course. Grade: A+

Justin Thomas (T2):  J.T. just dug himself too big of a hole with his putter this week. He hit the ball quite well throughout, but he gave away so many strokes with his putter (highlighted by a missed 16-inch putt on Sunday in Round 3). It's been his big frustration since the PGA Tour restarted in early June, and has kept him from sniffing more than the one trophy he won at TPC Southwind. It will be easy to look past this, though, as we look ahead to the U.S. Open at Winged Foot, where I think his short game around those greens will be tremendous. Grade: A

Rory McIlroy (T8):  After he shot 64 on Thursday, I thought Rory was going to go absolutely bananas this week at a course where he normally plays quite well. Instead, he played the next three days in just 2 under and struggled at times with his iron play. He'll be a popular pick later this month in the U.S. Open at Winged Foot, but his play since the PGA Tour restarted through the end of the season remains a bit lacking. The encouraging thing is that he's been driving it really well the last few weeks. Grade: B-

Wow, Xander just walked in an absolute bomb on No. 16 to get within two. Getting interesting!

There’s a reason why everyone on the LPGA Tour wants to play in the CME Group Tour Championship. Competing in the no-cut, limited-field finale to the tour year is a symbol of a season well played, even if the season was interrupted by a pandemic.

There is also a financial reward that comes from playing in the season finale. For World No. 1 Jin Young Ko, the winner on Sunday at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Fla., a come-from-behind five-stroke runaway with a closing 66 earned her $1.1 million, the largest first-place payday on tour in 2020.

Ko, 25, played in just four events on the LPGA Tour this season, choosing to stay in her native South Korea and wait out the pandemic. Yet she earned $1.66 million in those starts to jump to No. 1 on the money list for the year. And she also topped the $5 million in career earnings, becoming the 71st player in LPGA history to reach that mark

Ko passed third-round leader Sei Young Kim on Sunday, but Kim didn’t walk away without a reward of her own. With a share of second, the 27-year-old earned enough points to claim the Rolex Player of the Year award for the first time in her career.

Here’s the prize money payout for each player in the field this week. We’ll update this list shortly after the finish on Sunday to list the names of those who played and how much they earned.

TOUR Championship payouts: See what each of the top 30 took home at East Lake

Mother Nature reared her head, but all she could do was merely delay the inevitable that Viktor Hovland would be the 2023 FedExCup champion.

Threatening weather suspended the final round of the TOUR Championship for 113 minutes on Sunday. As the halt prolonged, the only reasonable curiosity was if the final round would be completed on Sunday, for the outcome presented as much of a foregone conclusion as foregone conclusions are concerned. Yet, with plenty of daylight to spare, the 17th edition of the FedExCup Playoffs would conclude as scheduled.

In posting 27 under at East Lake Golf Club, Hovland prevailed by five strokes. He opened the tournament with FedExCup Starting Strokes of 8 under, and then scored 19 under across the 72 holes of competition to gallop away with the victory.

Although the 25-year-old Norwegian began the tournament in second place in the 30-player field, at +450, he was third-longest to win pre-tournament at BetMGM. Top-seeded Scottie Scheffler was a mere +140, while the third seed, Rory McIlroy, was +350. Alas, Scheffler’s woes with the putter continued en route to his share of three-way T6, while McIlroy battled through a sore back to finish alone in fourth. McIlroy, who is thrice a FedExCup champion, was attempting to become the first to successfully defend FedExCup title.

Xander Schauffele (+2800) gave Hovland a mild scare on his inward nine on Sunday, but he settled for distant runner-up honors despite a field-best, 8-under 62 in the finale. He opened at 3 under and scored 19 under during the tournament to total 22-under.

In his TOUR Championship debut, Wyndham Clark (+5000) placed third, albeit 11 strokes back the champ. The U.S. Open champion opened at 4 under and scored 12 under in four rounds.

2023 Tour Championship purse: Payout info, winner’s share

If you thought this year’s PGA Tour Designated events or LIV Golf Invitationals had big money, think again.

The FedEx Cup bonus pool was bumped up to a staggering $75 million this year meaning the winner of the Tour Championship will go home with a ridiculous $18 million payout .

While we can debate the semantics of the Tour Championship being the richest tournament in pro golf or not (technically the money is all from the FedEx Cup Bonus pool and not official earnings) that’s still a boatload of cash.

Heading into the final round, that $18 million is Viktor Hovland’s to lose as last week’s BMW Championship winner begins Sunday with a six-shot lead at 20 under.

However, Scottie Scheffler began last year’s final round at East Lake with a six-shot lead as well, only to cede it to Rory McIlroy.

Xander Schaufele is Hovland’s closest pursuer at 14 under. Schauffele’s record at East Lake continues to amaze, picking up a win in his first start in 2017 and never finishing outside the top 7 since. But Schaufele has not won the event since it switched to the staggered start format based on FedEx Cup standing.

But even a top-10 finish this week comes with a payday north of $1 million.

With that, here is the complete payout breakdown for the 2023 Tour Championship and FedEx Cup bonus pool. The total prize pool is $75 million

His first win at last year’s 2023 Barracuda Championship also came via a playoff. For his efforts, Bhatia will take home the top prize of $1,656,000. 2024 Masters Par 3 Contest leaderboard, results: Rickie Fowler wins, Viktor Hovland drains one of five aces

Fowler finally broke through at augusta national, though the green jacket still remains 72 holes away.

A Masters tradition is in the books for 2024. The Masters Par 3 Contest has come and gone, and a new champion has been crowned as Rickie Fowler fired a 5-under 22 on Augusta National's nine-hole par-3 course to take home the title. The fan favorite posted the clubhouse lead early in the competition with many players like Sepp Straka and J.T. Poston getting within a couple shots but never surpassing Fowler.

Fowler now holds the unenviable task of trying to break a streak dating back to 1960 of the Par 3 Contest winner not being able to slip on the green jacket later that same week. Numerous Masters champions have won the Par 3 Contest and the tournament, but never have they done so in the same year.

Fowler's card consisted of five birdies and four pars as he played alongside Jordan Spieth and Fred Couples. The theatrics of their grouping came in the form of Fowler and Spieth's children running rampant on the nine-hole, 1,090-yard par-3 course.

Elsewhere, fireworks came in the form of holes-in-one as there were five in total on the day, tying the second most in the competition's history. Luke List took the lid off the cup with an ace on No. 6; he was followed by Gary Woodland and Viktor Hovland on the same hole, Sepp Straka on No. 5, and Lucas Glover on No. 7. The total number of aces in the competition now stands at 112.

"As I said, this is my 12th time playing the par 3," Woodland said. "I've had some close calls. It was nice to see one go in. Nice to see my kids' reaction. They were so excited. I will say, my son making the putt on the last was more exciting for me than that ball going in."

With all the fun and all the preparations now in the books, it is time to get to the 88th playing of the Masters where another (slightly more meaningful) champion will be crowned.

Hovland with an ace!

Holes-in-one No. 5 comes from Viktor Hovland. He is the third player to make an ace on the sixth hole and he will be the last as he is a member of the final grouping of the day. Looks like Rickie Fowler is going to win this thing (grimaces)!

Koepka starts with three birdies

The five-time major champion goes 2-2-2 out the gate. I think in the back of his mind, Brooks knows not to win this thing and may have a family member take a swing (which automatically takes a player out of the competition). In real news, he is back to the mallet putter after some uncertainty earlier in the week.

Fourth ace of the day!

There are now 111 holes-in-one in competition history and four on the day after Lucas Glover made an ace on No. 7. That is the first one of the day on that hole as Glover joins Sepp Straka, Gary Woodland and Luke List as today's ace makers.

2020 champ gets underway

Dustin Johnson is one of the 20 Masters champions in the field and is joined by Charl Schwartzel and Thorbjorn Olesen. It will be interesting from a tournament perspective what we get from Johnson this year. He has won on LIV Golf, hasn't played a lot of other great golf but can certainly roll out of bed and shoot 67 with ease.

Fowler still leads

As the par-3 contest continues, the leaderboard is still spearheaded by Rickie Fowler. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is about to end his day with Sam Burns and Tom Kim.

Gary Woodland is cookin'

The 2019 U.S. Open champion became the second man to make a hole-in-one today and nearly poured in another one. He will have a putt on No. 7 to reach 6 under on his round and take the lead from Rickie Fowler.

Valero Texas Open payout distribution 2024: Prize money, purse

How much money is on the line the week before The Masters at the 2024 Valero Texas Open.

By Cody Williams | Apr 7, 2024

Akshay Bhatia at the Valero Texas Open

The 2024 Valero Texas Open is always a fun stop on the PGA Tour , largely because of where it falls on the golf calendar. It has been the final event before The Masters for years now, but the 2024 tournament at TPC San Antonio offered one of the better fields we've seen in some time with players trying to play into form for Augusta National -- and one man at the top at the event trying to play his way in.

Young Akshay Bhatia blitzed the field at the Valero Texas Open in the first round with a scalding 9-under 63 to give him a three-shot lead. Many wondered if he would fall back, but he only added to his lead with back-to-back two-under rounds, giving him a two-stroke advantage heading into the final round and with the majority of the chase back six or seven strokes off of the pace. Denny McCarthy was the closest challenger with guys like Hideki Matsuyama, Ludvig Åberg and Russell Henley a bit farther behind.

Bhatia would get not only a nice Valero Texas Open payout for winning, but would also earn a spot in The Masters with a win, as would several of the possible winners not already qualified. But again, there is also good money on the line this week, so let's take a look at the Valero Texas Open payout distribution and everything to know about the purse and prize money this week on the PGA Tour.

Valero Texas Open purse 2024: Winner's prize money, total purse

The winner of the 2024 Valero Texas Open will receive $1.656 million in prize money. This comes out to being 18 percent -- the general standard on the PGA Tour -- of the $9.2 million purse on the line this week at TPC San Antonio. It will obviously pale in comparison to the money on the line at Augusta National next week, but it's still a nice payday that also comes with the 500 FedEx Cup points in the season-long race and, as mentioned, and invite to The Masters if not already previously qualified.

Valero Texas Open payout distribution by finishing position in 2024

Here's the full breakdown of the Valero Texas Open payouts with prize money from the winner all the way through the 82nd and final player on the leaderboard who made the cut this week.

While either vying for a way into The Masters or simply getting into good form before that trip is the goal of many players, it's still a nice bit of prize money on the line at the top of the leaderboard. Both the winner and runner-up see seven figures coming their way at the Valero Texas Open while all of the Top 22 finishers will receive at least six figures in prize money.

2020 Korn Ferry Tour Championship final results: Prize money payout and leaderboard

tour championship payout 2020

The 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Championship final leaderboard is headed by winner Brandon Wu, who picked up a big win at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind.

Wu shot a final-round 65 to beat Greyson Sigg by a shot on 18-under 270. Victoria National played decidedly easier in softer, less severe conditions compared to other KFT events played there.

Vince India, Seth Reeves and Dan McCarthy all finished on 16-under 272 in a tie for third place.

Wu won the $180,000 winner's share of the $1,000,000 purse.

Korn Ferry Tour Championship recap notes

Wu earned 14 Official World Golf Ranking points with the win, but he more importantly earned 550 Korn Ferry Tour points, which will help him in his quest to earn a PGA Tour card at the end of the combined 2020-2021 season.

This week the cut was made at 1-under 143, with 67 players getting through to the weekend.

The Korn Ferry Tour continues next week with the Lincoln Land Championship in Springfield, Ill.
