Best Travel Subscription Boxes for Coffee Connoisseurs & Tea Lovers

Trivia time: Over 70 countries around the world grow coffee, and even more have their own distinct coffee culture.  While four countries produce over 60% of the world’s coffee – Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia — there are so many more waiting to be explored.   Tea is even more popular than coffee, second only to water as the most-consumed drink in the world.

Send your favorite traveler to faraway lands with one of these travel subscription boxes that curate coffees and teas from around the globe.

Atlas Coffee Club

An Atlas Coffee Club subscription will take your traveler on a tour of the world’s best coffees each month. Every box includes a curated selection of single-origin coffee with tasting notes and brewing tips. Atlas Coffee is roasted-to-order, so it always ships fresh right after roasting. Plus, each box includes a postcard from the coffee’s origin and a bag design inspired by local landscapes and textiles (so you can imagine yourself there as you sip away!). This holiday season, I think Atlas Coffee is a thoughtful travel gift for coffee-loving travelers, especially those working from home or dreaming of future adventures.

7 travel-themed subscription boxes to satisfy your wanderlust

Mar 25, 2020 • 4 min read

travel box for

Embarking on a trip might not be on the cards right now, but you can still be virtually transported via these subscriptions that bring indigenous ingredients, travel-related titles, locally-created artisanal goods and more directly to your door.

Books entitled "The Illegal Gardener," "The Summer of my Greek Taverna" and "The Song of Achilles"

Wordy Traveler

When Cindy Nichols couldn’t find a subscription box combining her love of literature and travel, she launched Wordy Traveler . Her Luxury Quarterly Book Club includes three books, ethically-sourced tea evocative of the featured region and a custom art print; the Backpacking Edition is designed for less voracious readers with just one book along with the other inclusions.

Recent boxes highlighted Nepal, Greece and Nordic countries, while the next journey takes subscribers through the US National Parks System. Every box aims to show different viewpoints, spark the desire to travel and break down barriers, and a portion of the proceeds helps fund global education for girls and women. Subscriptions start at $49.99/month-to-month.

Kind of like StitchFix for travel lovers, Globein delivers unique, ethically sourced, full-sized goods from around the world. Before a box arrives subscribers have the chance to preview its theme and keep it, swap it or skip it. An Herbal Box includes a hand-painted white blossom teacup from Vietnam, olivewood honey dripper from Tunisia, silver Moroccan tray and peppermint detox tea and spoon from Kenya, while the Cold Brew Box features a stainless steel cold brew maker from India, Moroccan amira mug and Peruvian coffee beans.

The company’s fair-trade mission helps alleviate global poverty and provides tools of empowerment for women. Subscriptions start at $40/month-to-month.

A box of Seattle-based products, including coffee and cherries

Explore Local Box

From wild huckleberry jam made in Bozeman, Montana, to maple syrup tapped in Burlington, Vermont, the Explore Local Box is designed for would-be road trippers who want to explore US cities through their gourmet goods. Founder Jessica Larrabee only includes places that she has visited and seeks out small businesses and hard-to-find surprises. Included every month are locally-made products and food items, facts about each city and descriptions of each item and its producer.

Philadelphia; Richmond, Virginia; and Portland, Oregon, have recently been featured; future themes remain a secret until shipping. Prices start at $39.99/month-to-month.

Life’s a Wave

It’s endless surf, sand and summer with Life's a Wave , an ocean-themed subscription that brings the beach to your doorstep, launched by Santa Barbara natives who were inspired by during a trip to the biodiverse jungles and beaches of Costa Rica. Inside the eco-friendly packaging you might find artisanal chocolate sprinkled with sea salt, flavored culinary salts or bath salts, seaspray-scented candles, beach-themed jewelry and info on the current non-profit they are supporting.

A recent box included sea glass, a shell wine stopper and shell cheese spreader, citrus sunset bath bomb, head wrap, “life’s a wave” balance bar necklace, beachy socks and sea salt candle. Subscriptions start at $49.95/month-to-month.

A box of worldly activities for kids

Little Passports

The monthly boxes from Little Passports appeal to curious junior adventurers aged three through 12. Preschoolers can learn about the world’s oceans and marine life or global celebrations from India’s Holi festival and Día de los Muertos in Mexico with the Early Explorers subscription. The World Edition subscription immerses school-aged children in the culture and geography of a country with hands-on activities like molding Costa Rica’s sea turtles from sand or crafting a 3D puzzle of Venice’s Rialto Bridge. And kids can "visit” two states per month with crafts, puzzles and games in the USA Edition. The welcome kit includes a suitcase, map and more, and subscriptions start at $15.95/month-to-month.

Piles of colorful spices in a market

Spice Madam

Perfect for dinner clubs, family meals or home-schooling, the monthly boxes from Spice Madam include spices, recipes, music and factoids about a different global destination and support youth education nonprofits. Three to four spice packets is enough to make four to six servings of the dishes included on the recipe cards, which provide vegetarian and gluten-free adjustments.

Read up on the featured country via the welcome postcard, consult the shopping list and menu guide, then listen to the playlist. You'll be inspired to prepare braised lamb, muhammara dip and barazek cookies as part of the Syrian box, which contains packets of aleppo pepper, dried mint and da’ah , a cardamom- and cinnamon-based spice blend. Subscriptions start at $20/month-to-month.

A family playing a codebreaking game

Finders Seekers

Families who like finding their way out of escape rooms and solving puzzles will love Finders Seekers , a monthly mystery box recommended for players aged ten and up. Experience the underground culture and traditions of an exotic locale (called a “Find”) while relying on research, online tools and savviness to solve the puzzles and cryptic clues.

Locations have included Toronto, San Francisco and Athens; each adventure takes two to four hours to solve and after you complete the mission you can enter to win prizes. Subscriptions start at $30/month-to-month and a free mini-mission online lets you try before you buy.

Subscription Boxes for Travelers: Travel in a Box

For anyone not familiar with subscription boxes, a subscription box delivers a curated selection of food, snacks or other products to your house. Each company offers different delivery options – most boxes are usually sent monthly (but some are quarterly). Some subscription boxes renew automatically month to month (unless you cancel) or you can purchase a one time gift (usually for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months). You can usually see videos or photos on their website of past boxes to decide if the box is right for you or your loved one.

A general world food subscription box will include a variety food or snacks from around the world, with each month usually featuring a specific country. There are also destination specific boxes that focus on food from a specific country. Non-food travel subscription boxes include boxes that feature travel essentials and gear, travel books or artisan products depending on the traveler’s interests.

20 Best Subscription Boxes for Travelers (2023 Gift Guide)

Subscription boxes for travelers make amazing gifts! They have the potential to immerse someone in cultural and educational experiences from food to language and crafts, as well as transport the recipient (back) to a bucket list destination.

And, if you’re considering this as a gift-giving possibilty, then you’re in the right place.

In this guide, you’ll find a selection of the best travel subscription boxes and the top reasons to select one of them as a gift for the travel lover on your list.

Pinterest Pin Graphic - 20 Best Subscription Boxes for Travelers

Why a Travel Box Subscription Can Be a Perfect Gift

Gift-giving is an art. To do it right, you want to combine the person’s interests and the price you want to spend with the thrill of the person receiving something new, original, and unexpected. And as easy as this sounds, I’m sure we can all relate to feeling stuck and indecisive about finding just the right gift for a friend or family member.

But, that’s why travel subscription boxes literally check so many boxes!

For the person receiving one, the subscription is customized around a personal interest or theme. Yet, it offers that person the chance to try something new and receive gifts that might be unavailable where they are.

For a travel-lover on your gift-giving list, a travel box subscription could have food or items from a favorite destination or place on the person’s travel wish list. Or it might have gadgets and gear to go along with a travel-related activity like hiking , camping , or road-tripping .

Not to mention, a box like this contains the element of surprise and unpredictability. So whether you choose to gift one box or have the subscription continue over a few months, it’ll be so exciting for the travel enthusiast on your list to get something special, delivered by mail, all the while connecting with the person’s love for travel.

Plus, as the person giving a travel box subscription, options come in a range of prices and travel themes. They are conveniently available online and can simplify last-minute shopping. Oftentimes, too, you’re supporting small businesses and local artisans in specific destinations which is a definite feel-good bonus!

Best Subscription Boxes for Travelers

Below you’ll find the best subscription boxes for travel lovers. Most are monthly subscription boxes that you can decide for how long you’d like it to continue. In a few instances, boxes may come seasonally or each quarter.

And as you’ll see, many of these travel-themed subscription boxes are from small businesses that in turn curate items from other small businesses, as well as family-run shops, farmers, and independent artisans. All of this adds up to a personalized and unique gift that does a lot of good!

1. Sakuraco

Sakuraco curates beautiful premium subscription boxes with a combination of 20 Japanese foods, sweets, and tea. Each month, the selected items highlight a different area of Japan and the local family-run businesses that make the goodies in each box. Some boxes even come with a handmade dish or other houseware to connect with the foods in the box.

From the moment you open the box, you’re instantly immersed in a Japanese cultural experience. The booklet included not only tells about each snack but also gives insights about the place in Japan where the items have come from and the items themselves, as well as thoughtfully written explanations about the families and businesses behind these products.

There are also interesting facts you learn as you read and taste each item. For example, I learned that the Indigo Yuzen Dish in the box I received had a repaired broken pottery look because it’s remembering the Japanese art of kintsugi. Or that the butter used to make the Hokkaido Butter Cookies in the box comes from Hokkaido’s dairy farms which supply more than 50% of Japan with the raw milk it needs.

Quite simply, the Sakuraco subscription box is the most impressive I’ve received. It’s my top pick for a travel box subscription gift! Don’t just take my word for it, though. Their subscription boxes have been featured in publications like The New York Times, BuzzFeed, CNET, Refinery29, and many more.

Sakuraco’s boxes will transport recipients back to Japan to relive travel memories or take them on their first cultural and educational journey there. Either way, giving a Sakuraco subscription box as a gift is an absolute treasure!

Traveling is an exciting experience that allows us to explore new cultures, try new foods, and create unforgettable memories. However, packing for a trip can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to organizing and protecting our belongings. This is where a travel box comes in handy.

A travel box is a type of luggage that is designed to keep your items safe and organized during your travels. It can come in various sizes, shapes, and materials, depending on your needs and preferences. Some travel boxes are designed specifically for certain items, such as jewelry, electronics, or cosmetics, while others are more versatile and can accommodate a variety of items.

When choosing a travel box, it’s essential to consider factors such as size, weight, durability, and security features. You want a box that is spacious enough to fit all your essentials but not too bulky to carry around. It should also be made of sturdy materials that can withstand the wear and tear of travel, and have secure locks or zippers to keep your items safe.

We researched and tested ten travel boxes to identify the ones that offer the best combination of functionality, durability, and style. Whether you’re a frequent traveler or planning your first trip, our guide will help you find the perfect travel box to make your journey stress-free and enjoyable.

Buying Guide

When looking to buy a travel box, there are several factors to consider to ensure you choose the best product for your needs. Here are some key features to look for when shopping for a travel box:

Size and Capacity

One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a travel box is its size and capacity. Make sure the box is large enough to fit all your necessary items, but not too large that it becomes cumbersome to carry. Check the dimensions and capacity of the box before making your purchase.

Durability and Material

Travel boxes are subjected to a lot of wear and tear, so it’s important to choose a box made from durable materials that can withstand the rigors of travel. Look for boxes made from materials such as polycarbonate, aluminum, or ABS plastic.

Security Features

When traveling, it’s important to keep your belongings safe and secure. Look for a travel box with good security features such as a combination lock or TSA-approved lock. Some boxes also have additional security features such as reinforced corners or anti-theft zippers.

Wheels and Handles

If you plan on traveling with your box frequently, look for a box with wheels and a telescoping handle for easy maneuverability. Some boxes also have additional handles for easier lifting and carrying.

Organization and Storage

Finally, consider the organization and storage options of the travel box. Look for boxes with multiple compartments and pockets to keep your items organized and easily accessible. Some boxes also have removable dividers or packing cubes to help maximize storage space.

By considering these factors when shopping for a travel box, you can ensure that you choose a product that meets your needs and provides a safe and secure way to transport your belongings while traveling.

Travel + Leisure / Brian Kopinski

If you’ve ever traveled with a hat, you know it’s a terrible idea to shove it in your suitcase or purse. That’s a surefire way to bend the brim and otherwise misshape it. Instead, we recommend investing in a sturdy, trip-friendly hat box when regularly vacationing with these items. In fact, we’ve researched a wide range of suitable options depending on how many hats you’re traveling with, and their sizes, many featuring convenient carrying options like straps or trolley sleeves.

Our favorite hat box is the Inner Large Hat Box because it’s light and soft and has various carrying possibilities. But if you’re looking for something specific like a baseball cap carrier or something for multiple hats, read on for our top picks.

Best Overall

Inner large hat box.

Three different carrying straps makes travel ultra convenient.

It’s softsided so may not be suited for the most delicate hats.

This soft-sided travel case is perfect for stashing fedoras or other wide-brim hats while you travel. Though it can certainly be carried on its own, we love that it’s lightweight and slim enough to be packed inside your suitcase as well.

This product tops our list for multiple, comfortable carrying options. It’s equipped with a non-slip top handle, adjustable shoulder straps (which can be worn on one shoulder or two like a backpack), and a trolley sleeve if you prefer to slide it onto your suitcase handle. There’s also a small, transparent slip on the outside, which you can use to put your name and contact info in case you lose it.

The Details: 5.9 x 14.6 x 13.19 inches | 2.4 pounds | Ethylene-vinyl acetate | Fits 1 hat

Best Hardside

Brixton fedora travel case.

It’s as sleek as it is sturdy.

It’s pretty bulky if you're only carrying one hat.

Made specifically for wide-brim hats like fedoras, this fabric-covered, hard-shell travel case will protect delicate brims from bending. Its two carrying options include a leather top handle and an adjustable and detachable shoulder strap. The stylish case comes in a cream exterior with brown leather details or a gray exterior with black leather details. Inside, you’ll find a silky fabric liner with a large slip pocket and a smaller zip pocket. Feet at the bottom help it stand on its own.

The Details: 15 x 6 inches | Fits 3-4 hats

Best Softside

Happibox hat storage box.

It can hold up to 10 beach hats.

This is not the sturdiest option for tossing inside a suitcase.

A waterproof fabric keeps toppers safe from accidental messes or spills in this travel-friendly case. You can fit up to a whopping 10 beach hats (with a 15-inch diameter or less) into this expandable case, which has a convenient transparent panel for peeping what’s inside. While it’s great as a closet organizer, top and side handles make it suitable for travel as well (though we wouldn’t recommend tossing it inside a suitcase). When not in use, it collapses down to 1.5 inches tall.

The Details: 16 x 8 inches | 1.3 pounds | Waterproof fabric | Fits 10 hats

Steamline Hatbox Deluxe

You’ll want to put this beachy, vintage-feeling hat box on display.

It’s expensive if you plan to keep it hidden in a suitcase.

We dare you to find a cuter hat box than this peachy case splashed with hand-painted palm fronds and tropical flowers. Inside, the aesthetic splendor continues with a pastel pink and white-striped lining and a slip pocket for small essentials. The hardsided case is plenty sturdy, and detachable tan shoulder straps make toting this box a breeze. Still, when not in transit, the case makes for stunning storage and décor right at home, too.

The Details: 15 x 14 x 6 inches | 3.5 pounds | Fibreboard, leather, plastic and silvertone plate | Fits 3 hats

Best for Single Hats

Gigi pip leather hat carrying tote.

The multifunction tote makes the perfect carry-on bag if you’re traveling with one hat.

This bag doesn’t keep your hat shielded from the elements.

If you’re only traveling with a single hat, a hat box may end up being bulkier than it’s worth. Instead, consider a tote bag (that can double as your personal item bag) with nifty exterior straps for securing your wide-brim hat.

In this genuine leather bag, the innovative “U” strap cradles the crown while the side straps secure the brim on either side. The straps are adjustable and lay flat against the bag when not in use. Inside the tote, you’ll find a zippered pocket and an open pocket.

The Details: 20 x 14.2 inches (minus straps) | 100 percent leather | Fits 1 hat

Best for Multiple Hats

Treehouse london felt hat storage box.

The box folds away when not in use.

The transparent window only allows you to see the top hat.

If you’re the kind of person who plans a different hat for each vacation outfit, you’ll appreciate this stackable organizer that can fit up to 10 hats. The case is made of high-density felt, which is stronger and thicker than most felt, while still being lightweight enough to toss in your suitcase. (If you prefer to carry it separately, a shoulder strap makes that easy.) It is dirt-resistant, odorless, and capable of holding a good amount of weight. Furthermore, it has good abrasion resistance and won’t be damaged by a hat's tip or any hard objects either.

The Details: 19 x 11.5 inches | 1.35 pounds | felt | Fits 10 hats

Best for Wide-brim Hats

Calpak large hat box.

The beautiful textured exterior comes in three neutral hues.

At 6.7 pounds, it’s fairly heavy on its own.

With a 53-liter packing capacity, this ultra-large case has room for much more than just hats. Stow sunglasses, a water bottle, or other small- to medium-sized essentials in the large interior slip pocket. In fact, even if you’re not traveling with a hat, this sleek case can double as a carry-on or weekender bag with its adjustable and removable shoulder strap. If you are toting a wide-brim hat (up to 18.5 inches in diameter), the hardshell, water-resistant exterior will keep it well protected from any bumps, bends, or spills.

The Details: 20 x 8.5 inches | 6.7 pounds | Polycarbonate and polyester

Best for Baseball Caps

New era cap carrier.

With a six-cap capacity, it’s a great bang for your buck.

It won’t accommodate wide-brim hats.

Traveling with multiple baseball caps is a breeze with this organizer which can accommodate up to six flat-brim styles. All-over EVA foam keeps hats protected and secure while on the go. The case is small enough to toss inside your suitcase, or use the adjustable carrying strap or rubber carrying loop to tote it separately. It opens and closes via a dual zipper, and vent holes on the bottom free any odors and keep hats fresh. When you’re not on the road, store your hats in this case inside your closet to keep them dust-free, too.

The Details: 13 x 10 x 5.5 inches | Polyester and EVA foam | Fits 6 hats

Tips for Buying Travel Hat Boxes

Determine the best size and shape.

It’s important to consider how many hats you’ll want to pack before determining the best hat box for your purposes, as various options have different capacities. Measure your largest and widest hat to make sure it fits inside the selected case.

How you plan to carry your hat case is important as well. If you’re hoping to place it inside a checked suitcase, make sure to measure the hat box against your suitcase first to ensure it fits. If you plan to tote it separately as a carry-on or personal item, look for adjustable shoulder straps in a wide width for comfort.

Choose the proper material

Hardshell hat boxes will be the most protective, however, they also tend to be a heavier option. If you’re traveling by plane, you may want to invest in a hardside case that can withstand being jostled around. Water-resistant cases are also great for mass-transit travel as they can keep items safe from unexpected spills.

If you’re traveling by car, you may be OK with a softside case, which will be easier to carry. Soft cases are also perfect for closet storage, as they help keep hats organized and shielded from dust.

Hat boxes have rigid sides so hats don’t get crumbled and smushed in your luggage. The shape of a hat box should reflect the type of hat you’re carrying — for example, wide-brim hat boxes tend to be large and round, while hat cases meant for baseball caps tend to be smaller. A hat box will keep your accessory separate and secure from any potentially damaging sharp objects or liquids in your luggage (or elsewhere). Hat boxes can also keep your hats protected from dust while you store them in your closet at home.

If your hat box has a shoulder strap, you may wish to use it as a personal item or carry-on in order to save suitcase space. Many hat boxes will be able to accommodate other small items — such as sunglasses or wallets — so be sure to check the capacity if you’re hoping to stash a few extras in the case as well.

If you want to check your hat box on its own, we recommend a hardshell hat box as those will be best able to withstand the jostling around that happens on a luggage belt or on a plane. Make sure the hat box has secure zippers or clasps, and that you detach any straps before checking the case.

If you have a smaller, more lightweight hat box, you may opt to put it inside your checked suitcase. An alternative way to carry a single hat you plan to wear most of the time is by using a hat clip, which you can secure to the outside of a bag. They come in a variety of price points and styles, from simple clips to fancy leather options.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

I know very little about Moscow or Russia for the\at matter. I do know I would have to see the Red Square and all of its exquisite architectural masterpieces. Also the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. Thanks for shedding some light on visiting Moscow.

Thanks for swinging by! The Red Square is a great starting point, but there way too many places and things to discover aside from it!

U.S. tourist faces 12 years in prison after taking ammunition to Turks and Caicos

An Oklahoma man faces up to 12 years in prison on a Caribbean island after customs officials found ammunition in his luggage.

Ryan Watson traveled to Turks and Caicos with his wife, Valerie, to celebrate his 40th birthday on April 7. They went with two friends who had also turned 40.

The vacation came to an abrupt end when airport staff members found a zip-close bag containing bullets in the couple's carry-on luggage. Watson said it was hunting ammunition he had accidentally brought with him — but under a strict law in Turks and Caicos, a court may still impose a mandatory 12-year sentence.

"They were hunting ammunition rounds that I use for whitetail deer," Watson told NBC Boston in an interview conducted last week that aired after their first court appearance Tuesday.

"I recognized them, and I thought, 'Oh, man, what a bonehead mistake that I had no idea that those were in there,'" he said.

The couple were arrested and charged with possession of ammunition. Authorities seized their passports and explained the penalties they faced.

Valerie Watson said in the interview: "When I heard that, I immediately was terrified, because I was like we can't both be in prison for 12 years. We have kids at home, and this is such an innocent mistake."

The charges against her were dropped, and she returned home to Oklahoma City on Tuesday after the court hearing to be reunited with her two young children.

"Our goal is to get Ryan home, because we can’t be a family without Dad," she said.

The couple also spoke about the financial burden of a much longer-than-planned trip. "This is something that we may never recover from," Ryan Watson said.

The U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas issued a warning to travelers in September about a law that strongly prohibits possession of firearms or ammunition in Turks and Caicos, an overseas British territory southeast of the Bahamas that is a popular vacation spot.

It said: "We wish to remind all travelers that declaring a weapon in your luggage with an airline carrier does not grant permission to bring the weapon into TCI [Turks and Caicos Islands] and will result in your arrest."

The embassy added: "If you bring a firearm or ammunition into TCI, we will not be able to secure your release from custody."

The embassy and the government in Turks and Caicos did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The same thing happened to another American, Bryan Hagerich, of Pennsylvania, who was arrested after ammunition was found in his luggage before he tried to board a flight out of Turks and Caicos in February. He said he accidentally left it in his bag.

Hagerich was on a family vacation with his wife and two young children but has now been in the country for 70 days. He spent eight days in prison before he posted bail.

"It’s incredibly scary. You know, you just don’t know what the next day may bring — you know, what path this may take," Hagerich told NBC Boston.

"You know, it’s certainly a lot different than packing your bags and going away with your family for a few days. It’s been the worst 70 days of my life," he said.

Hagerich, once a professional baseball player, was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the MLB 2007 June amateur draft from the University of Delaware.

His case goes to trial May 3.

What’s new at Cedar Point, Kings Island, Kennywood: Top Thrill 2, Snoopy’s Soap Box Racers and a fix for Steel Curtain

SANDUSKY, Ohio – What’s your pleasure, coaster fans – family friendly and fun or sky high and super fast?

Amusement park fans in Ohio have two very different new coasters to look forward to this season: Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point , with a top speed of 120 mph and an added 420-foot-high spike; and Snoopy’s Soap Box Racers at Kings Island , which maxes out at 36 mph and 73 feet off the ground.

Both rides are expected to attract new visitors this summer to two of Ohio’s biggest tourist attractions.

Meanwhile, near Pittsburgh, officials at Kennywood announced this month that one of the park’s most popular coasters, the Pittsburgh Steelers-themed Steel Curtain, will be out of commission all of 2024 while the park completes what it is calling an “extensive modification project.” The coaster, which debuted in 2019, has experienced long periods of down time in recent years due to maintenance issues.

While Steel Curtain won’t be running, Kennywood is debuting a new Potato Patch-themed version of its bumper cars ride. And nearby, in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, Idlewild’s beloved Story Book Forest is getting a much-needed refresh.

There’s plenty of news behind the rides too.

In late 2023, Sandusky-based Cedar Fair , parent company of Cedar Point and Kings Island, announced it planned to merge with rival Six Flags, the amusement park company based in Texas. The new company will be called Six Flags, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Six Flags shareholders, by a large majority, last month gave their approval to the merger.

Cedar Fair shareholders don’t get a vote – and not all are happy about the plan, which has also attracted the attention of the U.S. Department of Justice for antitrust concerns.

Company officials, however, are confident the merger will be complete this summer.

No merger-related changes, however, are expected in any of the parks in 2024.

Here’s what you can expect this year at regional parks, including hours, admission and other details.

CEDAR POINT

What: Cedar Point reasserts its claim as the Roller Coaster Capital of the World with the debut of Top Thrill 2, a remake of record-breaking Top Thrill Dragster. The new version features a 420-foot-high spike to accompany the original 420-foot-high hill. The addition brings to 18 the number of roller coasters in the park, which is celebrating its 154th season this summer.

Opens: Opening day is Saturday, May 4, with the park open Thursday through Monday through May 16, when daily operations commence. Cedar Point Shores waterpark, which requires separate admission, opens for the season on Saturday, May 25. Hours vary.

Admission: $85 at the gate, $49.99 online. Admission to Cedar Point Shores is $49.99-$60. Parking has increased to $30.

What’s new: Top Thrill 2 is billed as the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch strata coaster (over 400 feet high). The coaster will launch riders forward part way up the 420-foot hill at 74 mph, backward up the new spike at 101 mph, and then forward again, up and over the hill, at 120 mph. Total ride time is nearly 2 minutes, up from 17 seconds on Top Thrill Dragster.

Note: Riders must be 52 inches tall and will have to go through a metal detector in line; no loose articles nor flip-flops will be permitted.

In addition to Top Thrill 2, Cedar Point is debuting a new event this year, Boardwalk Nights, running July 19-August 18, with entertainment, food and drink and other activities along the beach and boardwalk.

Also note: Snake River Expedition, an interactive boat ride, won’t open in 2024. The ride debuted in 2021, part of the park’s 150th anniversary celebration.

Opens: Currently open Friday-Sunday; daily operations start Wednesday, May 15; Soak City waterpark, included in park admission, opens Saturday, May 25

Admission: $85 at the gate; online tickets start at $44.99, depending on the date. Parking is $30.

What’s new: Kings Island is adding a new area, Camp Snoopy, to its award-winning kids zone. The highlight: Snoopy’s Soap Box Racers, a family-friendly coaster that will launch riders backward and forward on the same track. The new ride will be Kings Island’s fifth family-friendly coaster, staking the park’s claim as the Kids Coaster Capital of the World.

Camp Snoopy will also include Beagle Scout Acres, a shaded, nature-themed play area, as well as several rides that are being renamed, including Charlie Brown’s Rushing River Log Ride and Woodstock’s Air Rail.

Note: The new Camp Snoopy area, including the coaster, are not currently open, scheduled to debut sometime in June, according to a spokesperson.

Reminder: Kings Island last year instituted a chaperone policy that requires guests 15 and younger to be accompanied by a chaperone 21 or older after 4 p.m.

Manchester United staff ‘dismayed’ as club scrap free travel and food for FA Cup final

Sir Jim Ratcliffe File Photo

Manchester United staff have reportedly been left ‘dismayed’ after INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting saw the removal of employee perks for the upcoming FA Cup final.

Erik ten Hag ’s side threatened a historic collapse against Coventry City after squandering a 3-0 lead against the Championship side in normal time but eked through to next month’s final after a penalty shootout victory.

United will face rivals Manchester City in the showpiece event for a second successive season but the occasion will be markedly different for the club’s staff after a decision from the club’s new co-owners.

In the past, staff members had received multiple tickets for friends and family which also came with free transport to the game.

Club directors were also treated to a pre-match meal as well as a party and accommodation in London following the fixture.

However, according to The Times, those benefits have now been scrapped, with all staff members and directors now gifted just one ticket and required to pay for their own transport – a £20 return fare for a coach to Wembley.

It marks the latest in a number of cost-cutting measures from INEOS as they look to curb expenses and help United, who spent £183.5 million on new signings last summer , comply with profit and sustainability rules.

Coventry City v Manchester United - Emirates FA Cup Semi Final

Earlier in the month, the club removed company credit cards for some senior figures while also scaling back the use of private chauffeurs for some of the backroom staff.

In an email announcing the latest changes, which has been seen by the Times, the club noted that this year’s Wembley trip would ‘be a little different’.

‘We will still provide you with a complimentary ticket to the game. However, we’ll ask you to contribute towards coach travel, and lunch will not be provided,’ the email continued.

‘While we appreciate this is a change from previous trips, you will all be aware of the need for us to spend the club’s money effectively, with a focus on performance and outcomes.

‘We hope that this year’s trip balances the opportunity for you to go to Wembley to support our players while also ensuring we can invest as much as possible into the club over the coming months to achieve our goal of returning Manchester United back to the top of English, European and world football.’

Could Trump Go to Prison? If He Does, the Secret Service Goes, Too

Officials have had preliminary discussions about how to protect the former president in the unlikely event that he is jailed for contempt during the trial.

  • Share full article

Several men and women wearing dark suits standing around an airport tarmac.

By William K. Rashbaum

The U.S. Secret Service is in the business of protecting the president, whether he’s inside the Oval Office or visiting a foreign war zone.

But protecting a former president in prison? The prospect is unprecedented. That would be the challenge if Donald J. Trump — whom the agency is required by law to protect around the clock — is convicted at his criminal trial in Manhattan and sentenced to serve time.

Even before the trial’s opening statements, the Secret Service was in some measure planning for the extraordinary possibility of a former president behind bars. Prosecutors had asked the judge in the case to remind Mr. Trump that attacks on witnesses and jurors could land him in jail even before a verdict is rendered.

(The judge, who held a hearing Tuesday morning to determine whether Mr. Trump should be held in contempt for violating a gag order, is far more likely to issue a warning or impose a fine before taking the extreme step of jailing the 77-year-old former president. It was not immediately clear when he would issue his ruling.)

Last week, as a result of the prosecution’s request, officials with federal, state and city agencies had an impromptu meeting about how to handle the situation, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.

That behind-the-scenes conversation — involving officials from the Secret Service and other relevant law enforcement agencies — focused only on how to move and protect Mr. Trump if the judge were to order him briefly jailed for contempt in a courthouse holding cell, the people said.

The far more substantial challenge — how to safely incarcerate a former president if the jury convicts him and the judge sentences him to prison rather than home confinement or probation — has yet to be addressed directly, according to some of a dozen current and former city, state and federal officials interviewed for this article.

That’s at least in part because if Mr. Trump is ultimately convicted, a drawn-out and hard-fought series of appeals, possibly all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court, is almost a certainty. That would most likely delay any sentence for months if not longer, said several of the people, who noted that a prison sentence was unlikely.

But the daunting challenge remains. And not just for Secret Service and prison officials, who would face the logistical nightmare of safely incarcerating Mr. Trump, who is also the presumptive Republican nominee for President.

“Obviously, it’s uncharted territory,” said Martin F. Horn, who has worked at the highest levels of New York’s and Pennsylvania’s state prison agencies and served as commissioner of New York City’s correction and probation departments. “Certainly no state prison system has had to deal with this before, and no federal prison has had to either.”

Steven Cheung, the communications director for Mr. Trump’s campaign, said the case against the former president was “so spurious and so weak” that other prosecutors had refused to bring it, and called it “an unprecedented partisan witch hunt.”

“That the Democrat fever dream of incarcerating the nominee of the Republican Party has reached this level exposes their Stalinist roots and displays their utter contempt for American democracy,” he said.

Protecting Mr. Trump in a prison environment would involve keeping him separate from other inmates, as well as screening his food and other personal items, officials said. If he were to be imprisoned, a detail of agents would work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, rotating in and out of the facility, several officials said. While firearms are obviously strictly prohibited in prisons, the agents would nonetheless be armed.

Former corrections officials said there were several New York state prisons and city jails that have been closed or partly closed, leaving wings or large sections of their facilities empty and available. One of those buildings could serve to incarcerate the former president and accommodate his Secret Service protective detail

Anthony Guglielmi, the spokesman for the Secret Service in Washington, declined in a statement to discuss specific “protective operations.” But he said that federal law requires Secret Service agents to protect former presidents, adding that they use state-of-the-art technology, intelligence and tactics to do so.

Thomas J. Mailey, a spokesman for New York State’s prison agency, said his department couldn’t speculate about how it would treat someone who has not yet been sentenced, but that it has a system “to assess and provide for individuals’ medical, mental health and security needs.” Frank Dwyer, a spokesman for the New York City jails agency, said only that “the department would find appropriate housing” for the former president.

The trial in Manhattan, one of four criminal cases pending against Mr. Trump and possibly the only one that will go to a jury before the election, centers on accusations he falsified records to cover up a sex scandal involving a porn star. The former president is charged with 34 counts of felony falsifying business records. If convicted, the judge in the case, Juan M. Merchan, could sentence him to punishments ranging from probation to four years in state prison, though for a first-time offender of Mr. Trump’s age, such a term would be extreme.

If Mr. Trump is convicted, but elected president again, he could not pardon himself because the prosecution was brought by New York State.

Under normal circumstances, any sentence of one year or less, colloquially known as “city time,” would generally be served on New York City’s notorious Rikers Island, home to the Department of Correction’s seven jails. (That’s where Mr. Trump’s former chief financial officer, Allen H. Weisselberg, 76, is currently serving his second five-month sentence for crimes related to his work for his former boss.)

Any sentence of more than a year, known as state time, would generally be served in one of the 44 prisons run by New York State’s Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

The former president could also be sentenced to a term of probation, raising the bizarre possibility of the former commander in chief reporting regularly to a civil servant at the city’s Probation Department.

He would have to follow the probation officer’s instructions and answer questions about his work and personal life until the term of probation ended. He would also be barred from associating with disreputable people, and if he committed any additional crimes, he could be jailed immediately.

Istanbul, Turkey: Photo of Kadıköy passenger ferry port at sunset time. Passenger ferry, which is ... [+] coming from Beşiktaş just arrived the Kadıköy port.

Finding a great bookstore while traveling can be just as satisfying as spending the day at a beloved museum or sacred monument—and that’s certainly the case in Istanbul. The city is packed with hidden second-hand bookstores and flea market-style book alleys. The thing is—the majority of these places sell books written in Turkish, which, while beautiful to look at, mightn’t be the most practical if you’re looking for something to bring back to your hotel and read (unless of course, you speak Turkish).

That said, there are a handful of really good bookstores in Istanbul where you’ll find a huge variety of English-language books—from cookbooks and coffee table books to novels and nonfiction. Here are some of the best places to check out if you’re hoping to find a great read while in Istanbul:

Minoa Books & Coffee

Minoa Books & Coffee in Beşiktaş is a stunning spot to explore—whether you’re looking for a new book, fancy stationery, or you just want a pretty spot to stop and have a cappuccino. The independent bookstore and cafe has been around for over a decade and amassed a huge fan base thanks to its great selection of fiction and nonfiction and Instagram-friendly interior decor and art installations.

This massive bookstore chain in Istanbul might not be the most charming—but D&R is still one of the best spots in the city to find English language books and other media (including vinyl, video games, DVDs, and more). You’ll find this bookstore all over the city, including at the Istanbul Airport.

Robinson Crusoe 389

Robinson Crusoe 389 on İstiklal Caddesi is a must-visit while you’re exploring the bustling shopping street. This stunning bookstore is a great spot to stop and read (there are even cozy seating nooks to encourage patrons to stop and sample a book) and while most of the books are in Turkish, you’ll still be able to find a fair amount of English titles.

The fallout 4 next gen update is not going great, mike tyson on becoming a heavy hitter in weed, homer kitabevi.

Homer Kitabevi is going to be your best bet if you have a specific book in mind that you’re hoping to source. The sprawling space is probably the most comprehensive collection of English titles in the city and also includes a huge variety of children’s literature as well. This shop also has—true to its name—a great selection of philosophy and classic literature that will be worth seeking out as well.

Kadikoy Istanbul Bookstore

This beautiful bookstore is located just above the ferry terminal in Kadikoy—and it’s well worth checking out while you wait for your ferry to the European side of the city. The selection of English titles at the Kadikoy Istanbul Bookstore is on the smaller side but the views from the second-story bookstore are bar none.
