There are not enough words of praise for Wanda at Adventure Travel after our amazing trip to Italy! She choreographed 10 people from 4 different locations with air, hotels, trains, guides, excursions, vans and many more of even the smallest of details for 9 cities/sites over 10 days. She made it possible to connect with old family friends in a tiny little town west of Milan, which was the biggest blessing of all. We saw art, architecture, ancient statues, works of Michaelangelo and more - all with the best guides you could imagine. Restaurants, handmade sandals, train connections without a hitch, Limoncello, shopping, and more special memories than we all thought was possible - because of her planning and prep. This was our first trip overseas and she prepared it so there was no fear of where to go or how to get there. Not just for a couple, but for 10 of us!! Thank you Wanda! We'll be back for other family trips as well as our personal ones!

Wanda at Adventure Travel is a fantastic resource in planning any vacation excursion. She and her staff are fun to work with and always ready to share a funny travel story or recommend some unique spot to visit on your journey. She is knowledgeable and worldly in her personal travel experience and I would highly recommend Adventure Travel for your vacation planning needs.

Have used Adveture Travel for years and they have always met and eceeded my expectations. The owner goes out of her way to resolve situations that may occur during a trip and will also plan your trip tailored to your every wish. Always going out of their way to make a trip perfect!

My mother booked an Alaska cruise for her 50th anniversary, and planned to take 13 of us along with her and my dad. Royal Carribean was amazing, but would have been funner if my wife had been allowed to go. Wanda at Adventure Travel assured my mom and sisters that 27 weeks pregnant was the perfect time to cruise. Royal Carribean does not allow anyone on the ship if the will be 24 weeks pregnant at any point during the cruise and requires a doctors note, so Wanda's plan to "just lie" had no chance of succeeding. My wife was booked on a return flight that she had no chance of making during rush hour in Seattle (with a draw bridge on the route, and a college graduation apparently going on), so my six months pregnant wife spent the night in the airport, while her family sailed away( she insisted we not break the promise of a cruise to the children)! We will never use any travel agent again. Thank God we weren't in a foreign country! Come to find out, this was just the first of many lies we were told by the person we entrusted our safety and enjoyment to. Again, Royal Carribean was the experience of a lifetime, and was shocked that my wife was booked on a cruise, when we contacted them and gave them the details.

Best way to book YOUR adventure

We offer Private Tours for your group. If you are looking at a particular tour, call us, we will go over details and options, then send you a complete itinerary with cost before you decide to book the private tour. (Minimum # of guests needed will apply for private tours)

 If you have a group of friends, family, co-workers or a business looking to entertain your V.I.P's, this is the place to be!

If required , the minimum number is stated in each of the tour information. (usually 4 persons)

Events do not have minimums, nor do the tube floats on the weekends.

Private weekday/evening tours do require a minimum number of guests in your party.

We ask that you call to book the tours that require the minimum guests.

Basilica of San Albino

On the north end of the Plaza, originally built of adobe in 1855, the church was rebuilt to its present structure in 1906. It became a basilica on November 1, 2008. Visiting hours vary during the year, see website for accurate dates.

Billy the Kid Tour

(Outlaw Rock at Stolen Horse Canyon, Mesilla Jail at Billy the Kid Gift Shop, Historic Fort Selden). This tour follows Billy the Kid’s trail past his most notorious hideouts, one at the Old Mesilla plaza and the other at Outlaw Rock in the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. Outlaw Rock is in Faulkner Canyon (also known as Stolen Horse Canyon) where Billy and his gang left their mark, then back to Old Mesilla where Billy escaped from jail on the historic plaza. Western history and cultural flair meet natural beauty in Faulkner Canyon and the Robledo Mountains Wilderness.

Throughout Mesilla, colorful ristras, red chile strung together, decorate homes and businesses symbolizing the hospitality of the Southwest. Stop in Las Mesilla and step into another era! 

OLD MESILLA

The heart of the picturesque village of Mesilla is much the same as it was one hundred years ago. Thick walled adobe buildings, which once protected residents against Apache attacks, now house art galleries, restaurants, museums and gift shops. Today, tourists stroll on the peaceful plaza and imagine life as it might have been many years ago.

La Ventana de Mesilla

After the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which concluded the Mexican War in 1848, the Mexican government commissioned Cura Ramon Ortiz to settle Mesilla. He brought families from New Mexico and from Paso del Norte (modern Ciudad Juarez) to populate the Mesilla Civil Colony Grant, which by 1850 had more than 800 inhabitants.

On November 16, 1854, a detachment from nearby Fort Fillmore raised the U.S. flag here confirming the Gadsden Purchase; thus, the Gadsden territory was officially recognized as part of the United States. In 1858, the Butterfield stage began its run through Mesilla. During the Civil War, Mesilla was the capital of the Confederate Arizona Territory.

Mesilla's most notorious resident, Billy the Kid, was sentenced to death at the county courthouse, but escaped before the sentence was carried out. Legendary hero Pat Garrett eventually tracked down and killed the Kid; later, Garrett was mysteriously murdered in an arroyo just outside of Las Cruces. He is buried in a local cemetery.

San Albino Church, on the plaza, is one of the oldest churches in the Mesilla Valley. Constructed in 1851, the present structure was built some 55 years later. The nearby Gadsden Museum houses Indian and Civil War relics and Southwest New Mexico artifacts.
