India Golden Triangle

The Golden Triangle is India's most popular sightseeing tour and includes visits to the following cities: Agra, Delhi , and Jaipur. First of all, tourists visit the capital - Delhi; the main attractions of this city are Jamu Mesjit, India Gate, and Qutab Minar. In Agra, people are invited to visit the Taj Mahal.

Many travelers to India visit the three cities of the best Golden Triangle Tour packages to appreciate the architecture, historical background, and culture each place has to offer (you can even take a 3 day Golden Triangle Tour if you're short on time). Sometimes, it is also called the “India golden triangle.”

Although the three cities may be comparable to some extent with regards to local cuisine and spoken language, each city has its soul and charm that is evident as you travel through them. Whether you take a 5 days Golden Triangle Tour or more, you will enjoy it like never before!

In this guide to India Golden Triangle Tour , we'll detail the experience that awaits you when you set foot here.

Why is Golden Triangle famous?

The Golden Triangle is an important historical place, and it can be compared with our "Golden Ring." It is a conditional geographical region that includes India's most impressive and exotic sights that have gone down in history and are themselves history. Golden Triangle Trips will reveal to you the exoticism of these fantastic places.

The golden triangle of India tour will take you through three main cities: the national capital of India - New Delhi (Delhi), the former capital of the Mughal Empire, Agra, and Jaipur - the capital of the Rajasthan. The India tours designed by our company is specially designed so that you can fully enjoy the history and culture of these cities, be fascinated by the identity of India, and keep the memories of this trip for a lifetime.

Whether you want to learn more about the history and past of the great Indian Empire, or you are interested in plunging into the modern life of this great and vibrant state, all the information is presented on the Indianholiday.ru website. The classic Golden Triangle Tour can be from 4 to 6 nights. Also, such a variation of the tour as the Golden Triangle of Goa is trendy among tourists. Many tourists know about the Golden Triangle, and tours are the most popular. You can get exciting photos from the Sarga-Suli tower. Yes, it's impossible to list everything.

A Quick Guide to India's Golden Triangle

To see the Golden Triangle India , it is not necessary to buy a ready-made tour. On the contrary, it is an independent trip that will help to feel every moment and the whole atmosphere. I have traveled alone and with friends, and with a child. I studied Hindi, acted in Bollywood films, lived with an Indian family, and slept in ashrams. Naturally, in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur - in the cities of the Golden Triangle - I have been more than once. Therefore I will be happy to tell you how to visit these cities on your own, what to see, where to find accommodation, and all the possible nuances of traveling around India. This country will not leave anyone indifferent.

When To Visit India?

It is relatively calm in the middle part of India in December and January. The region is deserted in places, with sharp changes in daily temperatures. If during the day it is sunny and the average temperature is +22 ... +24, then at night it sometimes drops to +3, sometimes there are frosts. Without heating and standard tight windows, to put it mildly, uncomfortable. It is better to get sleeping bags for a trip during this period. They come in handy.

From mid-February and throughout March, the climate is quite pleasant, hot in places, but bearable for walks and numerous excursions. In addition, many holidays and festivals fall at this time, so traveling around India in these months will be comfortable and incredibly bright.

From April, it becomes noticeably hotter; even a fan does not save (and air conditioners are far from being everywhere). In addition, due to their frequent use during this season, they do not withstand the mains. Sometimes you have to sit for hours in the heat without the opportunity to cool down and charge at least one gadget. In summer, the rainy season begins, so it becomes suffocating stuffy, humid, and dirty from the water flow. It becomes more accessible and more pleasant only in October.

For all these reasons, the Golden Triangle is best traveled during the off-season, i.e., autumn or spring. The ideal weather is similar to our usual summer, when it is tolerably hot and pleasantly warm at night, in November and March.

Things to Note before Visiting India

Not a general student anymore, one of the countries in Asia, namely India, is quite famous for its diverse culture. If you want to travel to India shortly, there are several essential things that Indonesian tourists need to pay attention to before going there.

We must follow the existing rules for a more enjoyable holiday when traveling to India. Here are things a traveler must know before setting foot in India.

1. Don't expect too high, and get ready for culture shock

India has some customs which are quite different from other countries. Travelers should prepare themselves to experience culture shock and see all the cultural differences in India. This country is known for successfully frustrating world travelers.

2. Prepare to be familiar with Indian food

No matter how strong your stomach is with typical Indian food, there must be a point where you will experience digestive problems. This happens because your stomach is not used to the food taste in India.

After that, the stomach will become more accustomed to the local food. This usually happens only on the first and second days.

3. Get used to the crowd

India has five times the population of the average American. At the same time, they live in an area that is not too broad. Travelers must get used to using public transportation and walking on busy streets.

Locks are used everywhere in hotels, but it is better to have your own so that employees do not have a spare key and cannot open the doors in your absence; theft is common.

5. Chain for bags

A chain for bags (or a bicycle lock) is needed for traveling on Indian trains due to theft of luggage because the bag has to be chained to its shelf.

6. Belt or chest wallet

You can save money and documents only closer to the body; bags are opened right on the streets, you won’t even immediately notice in the crowd that the pockets of your backpack have already been gutted (for this reason, by the way, backpacks are worn by tourists on their chests, and not on the back).

Some other travel tips!

A few tips for travelers who are going to visit India:

  • In Delhi, you can travel by metro, taxi, and auto-rickshaw. Adjust the price at the landing; otherwise, at the end of the trip, the amount may surprise you unpleasantly;
  • In any city in India's golden triangle, it's not worth the risk of drinking raw water or eating food on the street. According to experienced travelers, you run the risk of getting dysentery or a set of internal parasites;
  • The situation in tourist places is quite criminogenic: you can be deceived, not given change, even robbed. Be vigilant, do not carry large sums of money with you;
  • Before visiting the temple, it is better to stock up on a scarf to cover your head, arms, and shoulders. When entering temples, you may be asked to remove your shoes;
  • Jaipur's handicraft shops are the best place to buy quality souvenirs.

How Long To Spend On the Golden Triangle Itinerary?

We can spend as much time on the Golden Triangle India Itinerary. But even then, we need to establish how much time can be enough to enjoy most of India's must-see splendors. In general, seven days may be enough to note what to see and set out on a journey to discover more fascinating places. This, of course, excludes the two days required for the outward and return journeys. It is necessary to consider that reaching India takes almost 8 hours (specifically from Rome to Delhi), which can increase depending on the presence of any airports.

It may be helpful to consider an itinerary that takes us on a journey through the main destinations of India from north to south to concretely realize how varied and stratified the irrefutable charm of this beautiful land is, depending on the areas we touch.

India is a gigantic country of great cultural variety that starts from the ever-living religious traditions, passes through the fairytale charm of the eastern areas, and reaches the top of modern and avant-garde metropolises. This splendid country offers so many attractions that a few days will not be enough to visit at least a good part of it.

Golden Triangle Itinerary – Highlights

The Golden Triangle is an itinerary built on three main points, which, on the map, form a triangle. These 3 points are memorable places, perfect as a general introduction to typically Indian scents, colors, and atmospheres; Delhi, Agra , and Jaipur.

Generally, the itinerary starts from the Indian capital, Delhi; it moves towards Jaipur and then Agra through Uttar Pradesh and Golden Triangle in Rajasthan regions, in a continuous succession of architectural, artistic, and cultural beauties: the gold of the whole of India, in short.

Golden Triangle Itinerary India Route Map

We highlighted the Delhi → Jaipur → Agra route with an orange triangle on this map. In this order, it is most convenient to travel along the Golden Triangle Tour . Planes from anywhere arrive in Delhi, so visiting the capital itself is the first point.

Further, in principle, you can go first, not to Jaipur but Agra. But in this case, if you suddenly decide to visit Orchha and Khajuraho, Jaipur will be entirely out of the way. The path to these two memorable towns is marked with a blue line on my map.

Best Time for Golden Triangle Itinerary

You can visit the golden triangle india throughout the year. September to March is the best times when temperatures are enjoyable. They are cold from December-January. There are fewer people here during the summer and monsoons.

Golden Triangle India Tours

The three cities take you back to the reign of the Mughals and Maharajas in the 16th and 20th centuries. Though modern in every sense and comfort, cities have much to offer outstanding quality and architecture of forts, palaces, museums, and monuments. From the epitome of love, Agra's Tajmahal tour , to the work of art at Jaipur's Amer Fort and Hawa Mahal to Delhi's Red Fort and Qutub Minar, every day, you will be enchanted by the architectural marvel. And you will find that same 17th-century essence in the cuisines and local markets in these cities. This experience should never be missed when you are in India.

Golden Triangle Stop 1: Delhi

A mix of cultures that intertwine and overlap and have made it, over the centuries, a fascinating place full of mystery. The urban district of Delhi comprises the old city and the newer city agglomeration, the capital New Delhi.

Dehli is an infinite and hectic area, and it is doubtful, if not impossible, to be able to see it all. One of the symbols is the Red Fort, a residence of the Mughal Empire, with fantastic colors. But the Jama Masjid mosque and the Bahai Lotus Temple are also worth a visit.

Furthermore, at every corner of the street, there seems to be a market to discover, if only to immerse yourself in the frenzy of sounds, colors, and smells which are, after all, the meaning of honest India.

Some best stops in Delhi include:

  • The Red Fort
  • The Lotus Temple
  • Jama Masjid
  • Akshardham Temple
  • The India Gate

Golden Triangle Stop 2: Agra

The next stop on tour through the Golden Triangle is the city of Agra. This destination is the home of one of the Seven Wonders of the World but offers much more than the beautiful Taj Mahal. After wandering the ancient streets, dining in its charming restaurants, and visiting its sanctuaries, temples, and gardens, you will quickly learn why it is so easy to fall in love with this city. This city is full of stunning Indian sites to capture.

Tip: Set your alarm early and make your way to the Taj Mahal at sunrise. You will beat the heat and the crowds, but you will also be able to enjoy the beautiful mausoleum sun beginning to rise.

Some best stops in Agra include:

  • The Taj Mahal
  • Fatehpur Sikri
  • Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daula
  • Mehtab Bagh
  • Tomb of Akbar the Great

Golden Triangle Stop 3: Jaipur

This jaipur golden triangle is captivating - it brims with royal history and is often regarded as India's most glitzy state. The chaos is colorful and majestic, creating a fast-paced environment that propels you towards adventure. It is also a shopper's paradise. Here you can find dozens of different hands crafts, jewelry, textiles, traditional fabrics and works of art, even rugs. This is one of the beautiful places to find tic Indian souvenirs, so don't forget to explore the shops.

Tip: Bring some cash with you, as you never know when a crafty street vendor or shop will catch your eye. While some stores accept debit or credit, it's good to have the cash in your pocket if you fall for something that a smaller, more artisanal seller is selling.

Some best stops in Jaipur include:

  • City Palace
  • Jantar Mantar
  • Isarlat Victory Tower
  • Central Museum
  • Royal Gaitor

Things that can you do on the Golden Triangle Tourism

India's Golden Triangle Itinerary ,which includes Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur , is considered one of the best itineraries for a cultural exploration of the country. This unique, diverse cultural extravaganza allows travelers to experience the beauty of one of the country's most breathtaking architectural marvels, immerse themselves in medieval history, and taste delicious cuisine from India's physically close yet traditionally diverse cities.

For those who want to discover what India offers, the India golden triangle is sure to have activities and entertainment.

This unique and diverse cultural extravaganza allows travelers to experience the best of one of the country's most fascinating architectural wonders, delve into medieval history, and sample delicious cuisines from nearby, yet traditionally different, Indian cities.

So immerse yourself in the spirit of urbanism, and look through the kaleidoscope of three different cultures. There are many things to do on the Golden Triangle tourism for those who want to discover what India has.

Having a good guide or a local by your side is essential: they can recommend the best restaurants for the Italian palate (the spicy is hot), they help you in buying tickets for the various attractions, checking that they do not give you crumpled banknotes then unusable or that they do not give you the wrong rest, it helps you to cross the road on foot (the traffic is intense) and much more!

Bring shoes and clothes that you will then throw away; in the sacred areas, even the external ones such as the Ghats, along the sacred rivers, you walk barefoot, and you must remember that the cows are sacred. It means you are walking on ... anything!

Final Thoughts

Groups, couples, families, and solo travelers: India is a country suitable for all types of tourists. The extraordinary wealth in terms of natural and cultural resources, the widespread and efficient network of infrastructures and connections, the advantageous exchange rate, and the low cost of living make India a rapidly growing tourist destination, increasingly loved by visitors worldwide. Corner of the world, searching for art, spir quality, folklore, and breathtaking views.

Travellers looking at a shrine carving with their guide in Delhi, India

There’s probably no other country on the planet that blazes its way into your memory like India.

Years later, you can still hear the morning calls of the chai wallahs; see smoke curling over the Ganges during a golden Varanasi sunrise , and smell the rich aromas of simmering curry. A lot of India tours rush from highlight to highlight, ticking them off in a blur of temples and tikka. But not us. Our India holidays are more about spotting Bengal tigers in Ranthambhore or Panna National Park, hanging with nomads in Jaisalmer, meeting the holy men of Pushkar, or hunting down the best street eats. This isn’t just the India you see on postcards. This is India as it is. Raw, bizarre and totally addictive.

Best time to visit india.

Due to India's size and topography, the climate varies from place to place but the best time to visit, generally speaking, is in the winter from December until early March. During the coolest months (December-January), temperatures can get quite cold in Delhi and in the north, especially at night. The whole country tends to get very hot from April onwards and most regions experience the summer from late May to around October. The summer offers hot and humid conditions, although this is considered one of the best times to visit Ladakh and the hills.

Culture and customs

India is one of the world’s oldest civilizations with a culture steeped in ancient beliefs and traditions. Religion also plays a massive role in everyday life with 80% of the population practicing Hinduism while the remaining 20% is divided into Muslim (India has the world’s second-largest Muslim population), Christian, Sikhism and Buddhist populations.

At its core, India remains a deeply conservative nation; however, it has been touched by rapid modernization and Western influences in recent years. Some families still adhere to a traditional structure (especially in more rural areas) with generations living under the same roof, the eldest male at the head of the family and arranged marriages. But this is becoming less and less popular, particularly in larger cities, where Western ideas and societal shifts heavily influence the culture due to things like Bollywood films.

While some behavioral standards remain the same (public displays of affection are still taboo), it’s important to keep in mind that with more than one billion people speaking over 122 languages across 28 states and seven territories, it’s impossible to describe one unified culture for the entire nations and the character of India’s people can vary greatly from city to city.

Top places to visit in India

Surely there isn't a more iconic image of India than the Taj Mahal. It's spectacular and soul-stirring, but words simply aren't enough to describe the beauty of this immense mausoleum (even when it's packed with tourists). Best known as a monument to love and loss, the 17th-century building was built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a tomb for his second wife – a bold declaration of love, indeed! Wander around Agra on our 3 day Taj Mahal Extension or on our 15 day Real Kathmandu to Delhi tour.

2. Udaipur, Rajasthan

Welcome to Udaipur, India's most romantic city that could easily give Venice a run for its money. You'll undoubtedly fall in love as you explore its grand marble palaces, shimmering lakes, and winding alleys filled with cozy chai bars and dizzying bazaars. It's also a popular hub for Indian artists, dancers, and musicians whose talents will pull you deeper under Udaipur's spell. Get lost in the beauty of Udaipur on our 15 day Rajasthan Experience or on our 15 day Classic Rajasthan tour.

3. Ranthambhore National Park

Ranthambhore National Park was once a famous hunting ground for the Maharajas of Jaipur, but these days it's a haven for wildlife. Jump into a 4WD and search for Bengal tigers, hyenas, jackals, deer, langurs, marsh crocodiles and more. You can also hike up to the stunning ruins of the 10th-century fort or experience the peace and tranquillity of the ancient Ganesh temple (one of the oldest temples in India). Go wildlife spotting on our 14 day Premium India in Depth tour or on our 10 day Northern India Family Holiday.

4. Kerala Backwaters

Surrounded by tea and coffee plantations and connected by a series of blissful, palm-shaded backwaters, Kerala is a peaceful oasis deep within India's colorful chaos. Float along the dreamy waters of rural Kerala on a houseboat, paddle over to an island village on a pole boat for an overnight homestay with a local family, and enjoy traditional Keralan food served on a banana leaf. Explore the Kerala Backwaters on our 13 day Premium South India tour or on our 13 day Classic South India tour.

5. Varanasi

Varanasi is a place that will be etched in your memory long after your time in India is over. Uncover the stories and secrets of this holy city with your local guide, get lost in the laneways, cruise along the golden Ganges at dawn, or witness ancient religious traditions and groups of pilgrims praying in the river. Even if all you do in Varanasi is sit along the ghats and watch life go by, you'll walk away with countless stories to tell. Experience Varanasi's holiness on our 4 day Varanasi Homestay Extension , on our 11 day India Getaway or on our 11 day Real North India adventure.

This holy desert city is one of the main pilgrimage destinations for Hindus. Explore the bustling ghats and temples around Pushkar Lake, watch devout rituals and worship at the Brahma Temple, share a meal with a local family while learning about their life and culture, or hike up the hill to the beautiful Savitri Temple for unbeatable sunrise views over the town. Embark on a pilgrimage on our 22 day North India Revealed tour or on our 15 day Cycle Rajasthan tour.

Get ready for delicious bites and lots of Bollywood. Some say Mumbai is the food capital of India, and you'll see, smell and taste huge culinary diversity here that celebrates regional cuisines from across the country. You might also like to watch life go by at Dhobi Ghat (the world’s largest outdoor laundry), check out the Bollywood Walk of Fame, or explore the sprawling Crawford Market selling everything from fruit to jewelry. Snack your way through Mumbai on our 15 day India Real Food Adventure .

8. Dharamsala

The mountainous Himalayan town of Dharamsala, also known as McLeod Ganj, is home to the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile. Tibetan culture is central to life here and it won't take long for the town's calming, grounding energy to wash over you. Sip chai and watch robed monks strolling between the monasteries, listen to the prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, and visit the Dalai Lama’s temple. Geography and environment

India shares land borders with   Bangladesh ,   China , Pakistan,   Nepal ,   Myanmar   and   Bhutan , and also has wide stretches of coastline along the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. As the seventh largest country in the world, India is home to a variety of terrains - the Himalayas of the north, the deserts and plains of the west, the fertile waterways of the south and the hills and forests of the east. Development is occurring at a rapid pace, with India's large, sprawling cities consisting of everything from five star hotels to shanty towns, and with modern malls and cinemas sitting comfortably alongside bazaars and street food vendors. A trip through India will reveal a diverse range of landscapes, villages, cities and environments.

History and government

Early history.

Humans have inhabited India for as long as 75,000 years, with early civilizations flourishing as early as 3300 BC. Over the centuries, India both influenced and was influenced by other nations and kingdoms, with far-reaching trade, conquest and migration spreading the subcontinent's culture far and wide. Empires rose and fell over the centuries, with the wealthy Mughal Dynasty ruling most of India by 1600. At the same time, different European nations started showing an interest in India after being brought to the area for trade. The Portuguese, Dutch, British and French all had vested interests in India, with the British East India Company being given the rights to trade in India in 1617. The 1857 rebellion and War of Independence culminated in the decline of Mughal rule and were considered the first movements against the British Raj's heavy-handed rule of the country.

Recent history

By the 1920s, India's independence movement had grown considerably with Mohandas Gandhi leading mass movements based on passive resistance and non-cooperation against the British Raj. Although it took decades, India finally gained independence in 1947. More recently, India has seen dramatic societal changes mainly due to modernization and globalization. A new wave of prosperity has seen the rise of the middle class, with men and women entering into new work roles in telecommunications, manufacturing and business. India's large cities are dealing with the mass migration of rural citizens, who are moving to the city to seek better employment, education and opportunities for their children.

Festivals and events in India

Many of India’s biggest festivals are religious and follow either the Indian lunar calendar or the Islamic calendar. The dates may change each year, but the fervor of celebration never does. Some of the best and biggest festivals to keep an eye out for in India are:

Holi (Festival of Colour)

Take a whole lot of colored powder and water, add thousands of happy people not afraid to get a little (or a lot) dirty and you have Holi – a technicolor Hindu celebration that marks the beginning of spring and the triumph of good over evil. Celebrations take place across India in either February or March.

Diwali (Festival of Lights)

India’s biggest festival – meaning ‘rows of lighted lamps’, people decorate their homes with colorful lights, candles are lit and firework displays take place across the country. The celebrations are particularly spectacular in Varanasi, where illuminated candles and earthen lamps are floated down the Ganges River as fireworks light up the sky. This five-day festival takes place every October or November.

Gujarat Kite Festival

Large, colorful and unusual kites flood the skies of Gujarat each January to commemorate the start of summer and the beginning of harvest. Purchase your own at Patang Bazaar, a famous kite market, or just watch the others dance through the sky.

Mumbai Ganesh Festival

The birth of the elephant-headed god, Ganesh, is celebrated for 10-days each August or September in cities across India, but Mumbai takes it to another level. An incredible energy can be felt throughout the city as people pack the streets for a massive party and an elaborate statue of Ganesh is paraded around.

Pushkar Camel Fair

Thousands of camels (and their owners dressed in their finest garb) descend upon Rajasthan's Pushkar for the annual camel fair. Camels are traded and raced, acrobats and performers entertain crowds at a nearby fair, while finely dressed males and bejeweled females take the chance to let their hair down.

What is the internet access like in India?

Internet access is generally very good in India, with most cafes, restaurants and accommodations offering free wi-fi, even in the more rural areas. There is also good phone coverage for data use if you choose to purchase a local SIM card to stay connected for the duration of your India tour.

If you do wish to purchase a local SIM in India, make sure your phone has been unlocked before your tour begins. There are quite a number of carriers that are all very competitive, but Airtel is probably the best option for travelers. You’ll need to a copy of your passport and visa to pick up a SIM, and the process can sometimes be a hassle, but rates in India are very affordable given the competition.

Can I use my cell phone while in India?

Yes, you’ll be able to use your cell phone while on an India tour, but only if you have activated global roaming or purchased a local SIM card.

What are the toilets like in India?

Squat toilets are the most common toilets in India. Always carry your own toilet paper and soap or hand sanitizer, as they are usually not provided. Flushable, Western-style toilets can be found in up-market restaurants, some higher-end hotels and in some tourist areas.

Salad is off the menu for now – let your inner child rejoice!

Credit cards are being accepted in an increasing number of cafes, shops, restaurants and hotels in India, with Mastercard and Visa being the most common. That said, cash is still king, especially outside of cities like Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai.

The majority of Indian society is still conservative, and while most travelers will have a welcoming and hospitable experience, discretion is still advised for LGBTQIA+ travelers, particularly in more remote towns and villages which may be more conservative. The same advice is also given to heterosexual couples (and couples of all other sexual orientations) as public displays of affection other than hugging and holding hands are generally frowned upon.

For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting  Equaldex  or  ILGA  before you travel.

Is India accessible for travelers with disabilities?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

As a general rule, knowing some common words in the local language, carrying a written itinerary with you and taking to the streets in a group, rather than solo, can help make your travel experience the best it can be.

How will I be traveling around India?

Intrepid believes half the fun of experiencing a new country is getting there, and getting around once there! Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators and are heaps more fun.

Depending on which trip you're on while in India, you may find yourself traveling by Jeep.

Safari through jungles and national parks aboard a jeep, which is ideal for conquering the difficult terrain and offers supreme wildlife viewing opportunities.

Cruising the waterways of India is a revealing, inspiring experience. Whether it’s the iconic Ganges or peaceful Kerala backwaters, seeing India from the water is a must.

Traveling by train is one of the great experiences of India. It's a system which looks like chaos, but it works - and well.

Use the efficient metro to get around the sights and suburbs of Delhi.

Zip around the big cities of India by auto rickshaw.

What kind of accommodation will I be staying in?

Traveling with Intrepid is a little bit different. We endeavor to provide travelers with an authentic experience to remember, so we try to keep accommodation as unique and traditional as possible.

When traveling with us in India you may find yourself staying in a homestay.

Make new friends, feast on authentic home cooking and receive kind hospitality while staying with friendly families in India.

With walks, wildlife spotting and adventure sports nearby, staying in a jungle resort is the perfect way to see another side of India.

From ex-royal palaces to historic hill stations and converted forts, India is full of heritage properties that have been turned into comfortable accommodation with an old-world touch.

What is it like traveling on a small group tour?

Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or you’re about to embark on your first trip, traveling can be as intimidating as it is exciting. That's the beauty of a small group tour. From handling the logistics and organizing amazing cultural activities to local leaders who know each destination like the back of their hand (like which street has the best markets and where to get the most authentic food), traveling on a small group tour with Intrepid will give you unforgettable travel experiences without the hassle that comes with exploring a new place. Plus, you'll have ready-made friends to share the journey with. All you have to do is turn up with a healthy sense of adventure and we’ll take care of the rest.

Backpacking, customer review.

We have returned from our superb holiday and all credit goes to Adventure Delight. Arranging the whole trip was quite easy and all required factor was kept in mind. The hotels and tours were very comfortable, especially with my 4 year old son. Even with less time, we thought that we saw the best of that country.

As always, they have delivered a truly wonderful experience. Choosing India seems to be one of the best decision of my life. The parts of the country we visited were breathtaking, people were welcoming, everything we ate was luscious, and there were much fun stuff to see and do. The hotel we stayed at was great and each excursion we took was unforgettable and fun.

Adventure Delight Thanks for making our holiday experience in Malaysia a memorable one. The hotels, pickups, places of interest, guides & other arrangement made by your team were superb & very well executed.

Culinary Delights India Itinerary

Itinerary overview.

The Culinary Delights India Tour will tingle your taste buds with the myriad of Indian cuisine from different regions of India. Visit historical monuments, markets, take cooking lessons, eat in various restaurants, and meet chefs, and other interesting people who will enrich this tour.

Namaste and welcome to India!

Arrive Delhi, and after immigration, baggage, and customs, exit the arrival halls. A Geringer Global Travel representative will greet you with a placard bearing your name.

You will be assisted and transferred to your hotel.

After breakfast, explore Old and New Delhi. While Old Delhi speaks volumes about India’s history, culture, and traditions, New Delhi exhibits the picture of modern India. Join a local expert for an Old Delhi tour on specially customized cycle rickshaws. This tour is an extensive tour that covers 20 main sites that include palaces, mansions, elegant shrines, and colorful bazaars.

Lunch is at Sagar Ratna Restaurant for a traditional South Indian vegetarian meal.

After lunch, visit two of the important UNESCO World Heritage Sites of New Delhi. The first stop is Qutub Minar, the second tallest minaret in India. It is made of red stone and marble and is covered with intricate carvings and verses from the Qur’an. The second stop is the 16th century Humayun’s Tomb, the first garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent, an outstanding monument in the Indo-Persian style and a precursor of the Taj Mahal.

Drive past India Gate, the War Memorial Arch, the Parliament House, the Secretariat Buildings, and the Vice Regal Palace, now the official residence of the President of India.

Dinner is at Punjabi by Nature for North Indian Punjabi fare in a contemporary setting.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a flight to Lucknow. Lucknow is a 2500-year-old city with magnificent edifices, gardens, crumbling mausoleums, Imambaras, and ruins of what were once regal residences.

On arrival in Lucknow, check into the hotel and enjoy lunch.

After lunch, tour famous buildings like the Clock Tower, Asifi Imambara, Husainabad Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, and Asfi Mosque. Visit the ‘Chowk’, the oldest marketplace of Lucknow, known as a place that showcases the culture of the city and the best of handicrafts including Chikan embroidery.

Enjoy a culinary walk down the lane adjacent to Akbari Gate. Dinner will be a sampling of Awadhi dishes at famous eateries along the way. A culinary curator will explain the history and the recipe of these dishes.

After breakfast, visit La Martiniere which was designed by Major-General Claude Martin as a palatial home. His contribution to Lucknow is immense. His architectural marvels are highly regarded. La Martiniere is now one of the most prestigious 18th-century schools.

Drive past Chatar Manzil en route to the Lucknow Residency, a place where speechless walls are known to speak the gruesome tale of the 1857 mutiny.

Lunch is at the Royal Café, which once served the American and the British soldiers during the second world war.

The evening is reserved for an Awadhi dinner workshop with the chef of the royal family. A local expert will explain Awadhi cooking of the various dishes. The learning session will be followed by dinner with the royal family at their residence.

After breakfast, take a half-day village excursion to experience the traditional mode of cooking using cow dung cakes or wood. Lunch is served at the site in the village.

Return to the hotel.

Enjoy drinks, a cooking workshop, and dinner at Chak House, a private home. The Chak family is a very old, celebrated Kashmiri family of Lucknow that has kept the tradition of the Kashmiri-Awadhi cuisine.

After breakfast, drive to Agra (approximately 5 hours).

On arrival in Agra, check into the hotel and enjoy lunch.

After lunch, visit the massive Agra Fort, known as the Red Fort of Agra, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Dinner is at Peshawri Restaurant. Enjoy delicious kebabs, tasty Indian breads, and the inimitable Dal Bukhara.

Visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise. The Taj Mahal was commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 15th century as a memorial to his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is an architectural masterpiece of exquisite craftsmanship and perfect proportions.

Return to the hotel for breakfast, check out, and drive to Jaipur (approximately 5 hours).

En route, visit Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted red sandstone city, built by Emperor Akbar as his capital. Ponder the mysterious desertion of this capital city that was dramatically abandoned a few years after it was built. It was a veritable fairy tale city and its ‘ruins’ are still in pristine condition.

Stop for lunch at The Bagh, in Bharatpur.

After lunch, continue driving to Jaipur with a stop at Abhaneri Village to see Chand Baori Stepwell, one of the oldest surviving stepwells in Rajasthan.

Continue to Jaipur and on arrival, check into the hotel.

The evening is reserved for a special cooking lesson/dinner with Thakur Durga Singh, the current custodian of Dera Mandawa. He is a keen observer of history, culture, religion, and current affairs.

After breakfast, drive just outside Jaipur to the ancient capital of Amer to see the fabulous Amer Fort. En route stop to take a photo of the Palace of Winds known as Hawa Mahal. Visit Jantar Mantar or the Astronomical Observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh, the Maharaja of Jaipur, in the 18th century and is one of five such astronomical wonders. It makes accurate predictions even to this day.

Lunch is at Samode Haveli, a former residence of the rulers of Samode.

After lunch, visit the City Palace, a complex of exquisite palaces, gardens, courtyards, and decorative art. Afterwards, enjoy a fascinating late afternoon walk, mingle and talk with the locals while seeing some of the region’s culinary delights: pakoras, aloo tiki, samosa, and sweets from some of the city’s most popular street food vendors. Observe local artisans in their workshops: jewelers and silversmiths and gold and silver foil makers.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Hyderabad. Hyderabad is known as the ‘City of Pearls,’ a nickname earned from its days as a pearl and diamond trading center. Today, it is still one of India’s retail hubs, famous for its traditional bazaars, some of which have been operating for centuries.

Arrive in Hyderabad, and transfer to the hotel.

Enjoy a cooking demonstration and lunch with Parveen Khan. Parveen Khan’s mother, Begum Mumtaz Khan, was the doyenne of Hyderabadi cooking. She not only taught generations of Hyderabadi women but also consulted with hotels across the country.

After lunch, explore the old city and visit Char Minar, the decorative gateway referred to as the Oriental “Arc de Triomphe”. Explore Lad Bazaar where shops sell Hyderabadi embedded glass bangles, pearls, and cloth. Silver merchants, working in their tiny shops, make thin silver “leaf” by pounding sheets of metal.

Dinner is at Jewel of Nizam -The Minar, a fine dining specialty restaurant, that serves authentic Mughlai and Hyderabadi cuisine. The decor reflects the rich culture of the country.

After breakfast, visit Golconda Fort, a fortified citadel, built in the 13th century and an early capital city of the Qutb Shahi dynasty.

Lunch is at Paradise Restaurant, known for its Hyderabadi biryani.

After lunch, visit Salar Jung Museum which is one of the three national museums in the country and houses one of the largest private collections of art in the world. Salar Jung was the Wazir or Prime Minister to the Nizam between 1899 and 1949, and his collection of both Indian and European bronzes, textiles, jade, paintings, ivory items, and statues form the basis of this collection.

Enjoy dinner at Adaa Restaurant at Falaknuma Palace. Carefully crafted, slow-cooked Indian Hyderabadi fare recreates the wonders of the royal kitchens.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Kochi. Also known as Cochin, Kochi is a city in southwest India’s coastal state of Kerala. This city has served as a popular port for over 600 years and is known for its eclectic architecture and its array of religious monuments, museums, galleries, cafes, and antique shops.

Upon arrival at Kochi airport, transfer to the hotel and have lunch.

After lunch, take an interesting walking tour which displays the various facets of the old town of Kochi. Walk through the narrow lanes and explore its different buildings, temples, and markets. During the walk, learn about the spices and produce of the local cuisine.

Dinner is at Sea Grill Terrace Restaurant. Enjoy a detailed discussion on Keralan cuisine with the in-house chef of the hotel.

After breakfast, take the Blue Bus Tour. Explore Kochi like a local. The bus will take you from the old-world charm-ridden Fort Kochi to the bustling Ernakulam city. Explore Ernakulam market on foot. This is where the locals come to buy everything from a needle to groceries to jewelry. From here go to the iconic Indian Coffee House to try some local delicacies and coffee. Walk towards the local ferry terminus and take the ferry back to Fort Kochi.

Experience a cooking demonstration and lunch at the residence of Nimmy, a professional culinary instructor for more than twenty years. She teaches the nuances of traditional Kerala recipes. She is also a food consultant to writers, chefs, and magazines.

In the late afternoon, enjoy a performance of Kathakali, the pantomimic dance-drama. It is a combination of facial expressions and body movements, which brings out the thought and emotion of the character. Kathakali is performed by men.

Dinner is at Malabar House, which specializes in innovative Keralan cooking using local produce and fresh seafood.

After breakfast, drive to Dewalokam (approximately 2 hours). Dewalokam is a working organic farm that produces fish, meat, eggs, milk, fruits, and vegetables. The homestay is Jose and Cinta’s family farm. A stay at Dewalokam is a truly unique way to relax.

On arrival at Dewalokam, check into the homestay and enjoy lunch.

After lunch, explore the farm. There are different options to experience. Enjoy a rafting trip, dips in the river, going for a waterfall hike, bird-watching trails and much more. Dewalokam offers you an opportunity to visit a local village school and interact with the staff and students.

Dinner is at the homestay.

After breakfast, spend the time with the family and explore the various activities they are doing on the farm.

For lunch, enjoy homegrown produce freshly cooked as you sample gourmet traditional Keralan food and join the professional chefs in Dewalokam’s state-of-the-art kitchen in informal learning to cook sessions.

After breakfast, check out of the homestay and drive to Alleppey (approximately 3 hours). Upon arrival at Alleppey, transfer to the boat jetty for checking into the houseboat.

Explore the backwaters of Kerala. Along the way, pass rice fields, tiny villages, boats transporting children to school, farmers transporting their produce to the market, and women completing household tasks such as laundry and washing utensils. Stop to visit local villages. At night, the boat anchors mid-stream, and meals are specially prepared by the crew from freshly bought produce.

All meals are on board.

After breakfast, transfer back to Kochi. En route, stop in Kodungalloor for a Jewish Heritage Tour and lunch. Kodungalloor, located near Kochi, is literally the cradle of several religions. Apart from the first Jews of India, this is the port where the apostle St. Thomas landed which marked the beginning of Christianity in India. It is also the site of the Cheraman Mosque, the first Muslim house of worship in India. The Hindu Temple at this location since 1341 is dedicated to the Goddess Bhagavathy.

After arrival in Kochi, check into the hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure. The final dinner is at Flint House. Its exceptional ambiance and an authentic grill menu contribute to a great dining experience.

After breakfast, transfer to the Kochi airport to board the flight home.

India travel trends: Search for spiritual destinations surges 97%, Delhi scores high in inquiries

S piritual destinations are stealing the show in India's travel market with such locations recording a 97 percent surge in searches in the last two years, according to an analysis by online travel aggregator (OTA) MakeMyTrip.

Searches for Ayodhya grew 585 percent, Ujjain by 359 percent and Badrinath by 343 percent in 2023 over the previous year, said the report launched by the OTA on April 22.  Tier-2 and tier-3 cities are embracing spiritual journeys, it added.

The report also added that people taking more than three trips per year has grown by 25 percent in 2023 as compared to 2019.

Where India travels

On the international front, 30 percent of all foreign travel searches from India are for Dubai, Bangkok and Singapore, while London, Toronto and New York are the most searched long-haul destinations.

Searches for emerging international destinations grew by multi-fold in 2023 and the hot favourites include Hong Kong, Almaty, Paro, Baku, Da Nang and Tbilisi. Travel to unexplored destinations has increased which has led to over 30 percent growth in searches for 16 emerging destinations. As many as 31 unique destinations contribute to 60 percent of searches from all six metros including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Delhi NCR and Goa are the most searched destination from all six metros. Delhi has the highest share in terms of searches in 2023 at 11.4 percent, followed by Mumbai at 7.2 percent, Bengaluru at 5.4 percent, and Goa at 5.3 percent.

In the domestic flights category, tier II cities have emerged as the highest growth destinations. Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram Indore and Bhubaneshwar lead with maximum searches.

Travel sentiment touched an all-time high in November 2022 with seven out of 10 people planning travel, the OTA said. It added that there has been 45 percent growth in searches as compared to the pre-pandemic period. As many as 100 million people are actively searching for travel on MakeMyTrip platform annually.

How India travels

Family travel bookings surged by 64 percent in 2023 as compared to 2022, followed by solo travel booking a 23 percent growth.

Two people travelling together make for 50 percent of all bookings.

Indians continue to make last minute travel plans with a significant portion of travel bookings in India are made spontaneously, with 46 percent of domestic flights booked less than a week before the travel date. On the other hand, about half of all international bookings are made at least two weeks in advance. Only one-third of international bookings are made more than a month before the travel date, suggesting a flexible approach to international travel planning among Indian travellers.

For flight bookings, women prefer to pre-book window seats and men pick aisle seats. Tomato cucumber cheese lettuce sandwich is the most ordered in-flight meal on domestic flights. Vegetarian Hindu meal is the most ordered in-flight meal on international flights.

Delhi travellers are over-indexed on booking domestic flights less than a week ahead of travel date while travellers from Kolkata have a higher inclination to book flights over three months in advance for both international and domestic destinations.

Where India stays

Alternative accommodations including homestays and villas recorded 24 percent growth in bookings in 2023 on MakeMyTrip as Indians are searching for stays that provide an emotional connection with culture and nature, the platform said.

Hostels and apartments recorded maximum search growth of 39 percent and 31 percent respectively in 2023.

For hostels and apartments, the preference is for those properties which cost less than Rs 2,500 per night but for villas, it is higher. Close to 20 percent of family travellers searched for properties with tariffs over Rs 10,000 per night last year.

More than 50 percent of the family travellers and 75 percent of the solo travellers booked a property for stay below Rs 4,500 .

Weekend getaways emerged as the highest growth destinations in the domestic hotels category. Jim Corbett leads with 131 percent growth in searches on MakeMyTrip followed by Ooty and Munnar. A large number of these hotel customers are driving to these destinations from nearby metros.

People from Maharashtra contribute to highest domestic hotel searches. Travellers from Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka searched more for villas while maximum searches were done for hostels in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Goa.

Explained: How New Schengen Visa Rules Ease Europe Travel For Indians

Explained: How New Schengen Visa Rules Ease Europe Travel For Indians

A Schengen visa permits a brief stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day timeframe.

The European Union (EU) recently introduced a revamped visa system tailored specifically for Indian nationals. This new system offers substantial advantages to Indian citizens, allowing them access to long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas, which can significantly streamline travel plans and enhance the overall experience for those venturing into the Schengen area.

What Is Schengen Visa

The Schengen area comprises 25 countries out of the 27 EU countries except the Republic of Ireland and Cyprus. It includes countries such as Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. This extensive area not only offers diverse cultural experiences but also facilitates seamless travel across borders for visa holders.

A Schengen visa permits a brief stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day timeframe. This visa may be issued as either a single-entry, enabling one entry into the Schengen area, or a multiple-entry, allowing multiple visits for the duration of its validity.

How The New Rules Affect Indians

Under the new regulations, Indian travellers can now obtain a two-year Schengen visa, a marked improvement from the shorter validity periods previously available. To qualify for this extended two-year visa, applicants must have acquired and appropriately utilised two Schengen visas within the preceding three years. Upon successful utilisation of the two-year visa, travellers can typically expect to be eligible for a five-year Schengen visa, provided their passport maintains sufficient validity.

The new rules essentially say that Indian travellers can move freely within the Schengen member countries for short stays, typically up to 90 days within any 180-day period, without the need for additional permits or authorisations. Under this system, eligible travellers with a proven track record of travel will have simplified access to visas with extended validity, provided their passport's validity permits.

Promoted Listen to the latest songs, only on JioSaavn.com

The 'Cascade' system, as it's termed, is designed to reward frequent travellers with progressively longer visa durations. It begins with a two-year visa, and upon successful use, travellers can potentially qualify for a five-year visa. While these visas do not restrict the purpose of travel, they do not allow the right to work within the Schengen area.
