What Our Guests Are Saying

“A fantastic way to see Stanley Park in all its glory! Cycling through the park we saw the Lost and Beaver Lake plus the stories behind them. The sea wall is spectacular as are the totem poles! We went through a little gap and onto trails leading through, what we described as an ‘enchanted forest’ and could’ve been easily missed if we didn’t have our fabulous guide. Even on the way to the park we stopped off at some historic houses and learnt their background. Highly recommend this tour for anybody!!! Loved it!”

“We had a wonderful time on this last-minute booked bike tour around Stanley Park. Our guide Andrew was great, and the biking was very easy (only maybe 2 short hills)”

“We started our bike trip with some rain but Andrew was prepared, he had plastic ponchos for us and off we went. We enjoyed his presentation about Vancouver and Stanley Park. Would highly recommend.”

“Highly recommend Toonie Bike tours. One of our group was anxious about the tour, but Andrew created a 5-star experience for us, making us feel as if we were the only ones on the tour. He used his humor and vast knowledge of history to create a safe & fantastic bike ride for us. We even learned some photography tips along the way. It was a novel way to spend half a day in Vancouver and get a sense of all the primary areas.”

TD Five Boro Bike Tour 2021

More than 32,000 participants in the NYC Five Boro Bike Tour will descend upon New York City on May 5, and they’ll finish their 40-mile journey in Fort Wadsworth. (Staten Island Advance/Derek Alvez).

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — More than 32,000 participants in the TD NYC Five Boro Bike Tour will descend upon New York City on Sunday, May 5, and they’ll finish their 40-mile journey in Fort Wadsworth.

The event is billed as the largest charity bike ride in the world, with participants riding through all five boroughs of the city.

They’ll cross five major bridges, including the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, which will signal to riders that the Ford Wadsworth finish, and the Finish Festival, is near.

Streets throughout the city will be closed that day along the route, and parking will be difficult for participants and spectators, who are advised to park their car on Staten Island for easy access by ferry to the Bowling Green start in Manhattan.

It’ll also be convenient for cyclists, who won’t have to travel far to their car at the end of the race.

Paid parking in lots at the Staten Island Ferry in St. George are limited, due to ongoing construction, but there are several municipal lots nearby.

Another option would be to park near a Staten Island Railway station a few stops from the Staten Island Ferry. This is a good way to find free parking. Simply hop on the Staten Island Railway, head to the ferry, and off you go to the race start. Bikes are permitted on the train.

Paid Parking

  • Empire Outlets Parking

Hours: 24/7

Cost: $25/day

Note: The Empire Outlets garage will be accessible for parking only until 8:30 a.m. on Tour day.

  • Saint George Courthouse Garage and Parking Lot

Cost: $12/day (Subject to change)

Pay with cash or credit card (no debit card)

  • 25 Wall Street

Cost: $15/day (Subject to change)

Pay with cash, credit, or debit card.

Cars that park without checking in with an attendant are subject to being booted. Riders must comply with all posted rules and regulations.

  • 325 St. Marks Place
  • South Beach Field #4, 446 Father Capodanno Blvd

Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants parking at South Beach can cycle to the Staten Island Ferry in order to get to the Start Area in lower Manhattan.

MTA Staten Island Railway

Cyclists may find luck parking on local streets near any stop, or in a free Staten Island Railway Park-and-Ride at Dongan Hills, Great Kills, Annadale, Prince’s Bay, or Huguenot stations. Municipal parking lots are also available at Great Kills and Stapleton stations.

From there, participants and fans can easily then hop on a train to the Staten Island Ferry.

Bicycles will be allowed on the trains, and you can board at any Staten Island Railway station.

MetroCard fares are collected as you enter and exit at the St. George and Tompkinsville stations. Visit www.mta.info or dial 511 for more information.

Project 529 bike protection expands to law enforcement across BC

Getting your bike stolen seems to be an unfortunate right of passage for Vancouverites. But Project 529 is trying to change that.

Originally piloted with the Vancouver Police Department before expanding worldwide and becoming the most successful program to combat bike theft, Project 529 encourages bike owners to register their bikes free of charge in a universal registration system that connects to a mobile app. This database makes it easier for law enforcement to retrieve stolen bikes (and ideally deters thieves altogether).

Created by former Microsoft executive J Allard after his bike was stolen, Project 529 will now be working directly with law enforcement across BC. In a strategic partnership with the BC Ministry of Transportation, Project 529 is providing all police agencies and the RCMP access to the 529 Garage database. This comprehensive registry of bikes enables law enforcement to quickly identify and recover stolen bikes. Additionally, Project 529 is actively collaborating with post-secondary institutions, non-profiting biking organizations, and high-risk areas to implement effective measures to reduce bike theft.

“People all over the province will now have access to this service that can protect their property and keep them riding,” shares Rob Fleming, BC Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, in a release. “Project 529 is building on the great work done by local law enforcement to create a community-driven solution for bike theft.”

Since the pilot project in 2015, Vancouver has seen a 70 per cent decline in bike thefts. You should still invest in a very good lock, though.

A homegrown solution to combat bike thefts is expanding across B.C., thanks to funding from the provincial government.

Vancouver-born database for combating bike theft expands across B.C. Back to video

Project 529, which began as a Vancouver Police Department project, will expand to allow police in all corners of B.C. to quickly and easily look up a stolen bike and find whether it is registered to an owner.

Project 529 is a free database and app that invites bike owners to register the details of their bike and their contact information, so that stolen bikes can be easily identified and reunited with owners. The database also allows buyers of second-hand bikes to look up the bike they’re considering to ensure it’s not stolen, while those unlucky enough to be a victim of bike theft can log on and mark their wheels as stolen.

The latest funding from the provincial government will set up police across B.C. with full access to the database, allowing officers to look up registered owner information for a bike that is reported stolen or found. Currently, the database only indicates if a bike is registered but does not reveal personal owner information to the public.

The project launched in 2015 with support from VPD Chief Const. Adam Palmer and managed by now-retired Const. Rob Brunt.

At the time, Vancouver’s bike thefts were among the worst in the country, and had been growing 20 per cent a year.

According to Brunt, Vancouver police were receiving about nine reports a day of stolen bikes. Had that trend continued, Brunt estimates it could have been more than 6,000 bikes stolen last year, instead of the 1,049 thefts recorded in 2023.

He said that since 2015 the project has reunited around 1,250 stolen bikes with their owners — worth around $1 million.

Since the project’s launch, nearly 200,000 bikes have been registered in B.C., and more than 3.1 million registered around the world. Bike thefts in the city of Vancouver alone have dropped about 70 per cent since the online database was created.

“What began as a Vancouver pilot project has now spread worldwide — and we’re proud to be known as the first police force to make a meaningful impact on bike theft,” said Palmer.

The project has also caught the attention of police forces overseas, with New Zealand recently signing on to provide the country’s national police force with similar on-the-spot access to the database.

The database was designed by J Allard, a former Microsoft executive whose bike had been stolen.

“We’ve changed the way police fight bike thefts around the world, providing a universal registration system that’s accessible, searchable and shared by police forces,” said Allard. “As a result, bicycles are being returned to their owners, at times across international borders.

“With B.C. making this pioneering move, it’s not only great news for cyclists throughout the province, but it’s another step toward getting the rest of Canada — and the world — on board to further close the ranks around bike thieves.”

Billie Eilish announces world tour, hitting 3 Canadian cities

Singer to visit quebec city, toronto and vancouver on international tour.

Singer-songwriter superstar Billie Eilish is launching a massive concert tour — with both good and bad news for her Quebec fans.

The Grammy-winning musician will kick off her upcoming tour in Quebec City on Sept. 29 in support of her soon-to-released album  Hit Me Hard and Soft .

But despite moving on to Toronto with shows on both Oct. 1 and 2, Eilish does not have any concerts scheduled for Quebec's most populous city, Montreal.

After her upcoming dates in Toronto, the singer will move on to the United States, before returning to Vancouver on Dec. 3. From there, her tour will continue on to Australia and Europe for the summer of 2025.

Why big artists are performing in fewer Canadian cities

Eilish's last tour,  Happier Than Ever, saw planned dates in both Toronto and Montreal cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though Eilish did return to Montreal in late 2023 for the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival.

The news arrived via Instagram, where Eilish shared album artwork showing the pop singer floating in a body of water after being ejected from a door. In the caption, she wrote that she will not drop singles in advance of the release.

"I wanna give it to you all at once," she captioned the image. "I truly could not be more proud of this album."

  • Concert ticket system is 'broken,' say artists. But some experts say targeting resellers isn't the fix
  • Regina-raised dancer joins army of Kens during performance at the Academy Awards

Eilish worked with her brother and longtime collaborator, Finneas, on Hit Me Hard and Soft . The pair recently took home their second Oscar for their big Barbie  ballad What Was I Made For?  In doing so, Eilish, 22, became the youngest person to have won two career Oscars.

Her new album will release on May 17, while tickets for the upcoming concert will go on sale May 3 on Ticketmaster.
