Travel Countries VISA-FREE with UK visa

One of the frequent questions I get is which countries can I visit with a UK visa. The short answer is the UK. The long answer is you can travel to 40 countries and territories VISA-FREE with UK visa.

I encourage you all to get a US visa or at least a Canada visa first. Both these visas are long-term visas. These visas offer VISA-FREE travel to quite a few countries. But if you happen to have a UK visa or applying for one, then it is still better than not having any visas at all. There are about 40 countries and territories you can visit with a UK visa.

UK tourist visas are mostly short-term (C-Type) visas valid for 6 months. The UK does issue long-term visas for 5/10 years but it would cost an arm and a leg.

The UK visa application is not the most difficult, but it can be stressful due to its lengthy processing times and lack of customer service.

More information on the new ETA scheme can be found via the official government website.

Nationals Of These 111 Countries Get Visa-Free Access To The UK

The United Kingdom has been one of the top tourist destinations in the world! Experiencing the bustling and fast-paced city life of London, exploring the gorgeous Scottish Highlands and trying authentic Irish coffee are just some of the many things aspiring travellers have on their bucket lists. For most, fulfilling these travel dreams of a vacation to this island country requires a tourist visa. But citizens of several countries don’t need a visa at all! Find out about the list of countries with visa-free access to the UK.

The citizens of over 111 countries enjoy the privilege of visiting the UK without a tourist visa! Thanks to the visa policies set by the British government, travellers from the US, Israel, Germany, Aruba, Australia, and more don’t need to apply for any travel document. They just need a passport, and they are good to go! Just like the UK offers the possibility of visa-free travel, even the US grants similar opportunities. You can learn all about visa-free travel to the US in our detailed guide.

  • British Virgin Islands
  • British Overseas Territories
  • Cayman Islands
  • Czech Republic
  • Falkland Islands
  • Liechtenstein
  • Marshall Islands
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand

  • Saint Kitts and Nevis
  • Saint Lucia
  • Sint Maarten
  • Saint Martin
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Switzerland
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Turks and Caicos
  • Vatican City

Citizens of these 105 countries can visit the UK visa-free for up to six months. They, however, do need to meet the requirements set for the Standard Visitor Visa — leave the UK after the trip, have enough funds to support themselves in the country and not live in the UK for extended periods or make it their home. Travellers from these nations only need to have a valid passport while entering the UK; there is no need for any kind of document which requires permission.

However, the British government is bringing a series of revisions to its visa policies that will change the way visa-free travel to the UK exists at the moment. Like the United States runs its Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ETSA), the UK has introduced a similar programme, the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Soon, the nationals of the countries listed above will have to apply for an ETA before entering the UK.

ETA will soon be implemented, making it necessary for travellers who don’t require a visa to enter the UK to seek the government’s permission before coming. This document is basically a pre-approval from the UK Visas and Immigration Department to cross the border. The ETA shall be electronically linked to the passport, granting permission to travel. It will cost GBP 10 (approximately INR 1,010).

The ETA will be applicable for Qatar from Nov 15, 2023, onwards. Citizens of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will also need the ETA for travelling on or after Feb 22, 2024. The US, France, Germany, Switzerland and other countries that enjoy visa-free entry will need to apply for an ETA from 2025.

Travellers will be able to apply through the official website GOV.UK or through the UK ETA app. The estimated time for a decision is three working days, and it may take longer if further checkers are needed. Since it is linked to the passport, the decision will be sent through email, and a printout of that document is not necessary. The ETA will grant permission for multiple entries and is valid for two years.

Who will not need an ETA?

British and Irish passport holders, along with people who have a visa to live, work, travel or study in the UK, will not need an ETA. Furthermore, legal residents of Ireland who are entering the UK from Ireland , Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man visa-free will not need an ETA as well.

Before the ETA commences, the current Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) programme will continue to run for a selection of countries to make their travel to the UK smooth and visa-free. You can learn about EVW below and know the countries which have to apply for it.

Often referred to as EVW, this programme, introduced by the British government in 2014, is currently in place for nationals from certain countries. It allows them to visit the UK without a visa for a stay of up to six months.

People eligible for this visa waiver must apply between three months to 48 hours before travel. The EVW is sent through an email, and people need to show it along with their passport. Since it is granted digitally, one doesn’t need to carry a printout; it can be shown through an electronic device like a smartphone.

Applicants must provide the details of their valid passport, the address in the UK where they plan on staying, details of the journey and other important information mentioned in the application. The EVW permits a single entry; every time a person plans on visiting, they will need a new EVW. The cost of applying is GBP 30 (approximately INR 3,051).

Countries applicable for the EVW:

  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates

Croatia and Bulgaria are famed for their stunning beaches, while Romania offers rich history and culture. Cyprus is a perfect destination for those looking for a mix of culture and relaxation. Keep in mind that for some of these countries, you may need to present evidence of your return ticket or proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay.

UKโ€™s Visa-Free Travel for GCC Citizens: Everything You Need to Know

visa free travel uk

The UKโ€™s new visa-free travel waiver for nationals of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries is set to come into effect soon.

Starting from February 22, 2024, citizens of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE can get an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).

The ETA is already available for Qatari citizens.

The new scheme is a much cheaper and faster process to secure entry into the UK compared to the Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) currently in place.

For just $12.75 (ยฃ10), the ETA allows GCC travelers multiple entries into the UK for two years.

An ETA is available for GCC travelers if they are:

  • Coming to the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, to visit family and friends, business or short-term study
  • Coming to the UK for up to 3 months on the Creative Worker visa concession
  • Coming to the UK for up to 1 month for a Permitted Paid Engagement
  • Transiting through the UK โ€“ including if they are not going through UK border control

Those who are not coming to the UK for the above-mentioned reasons will need to apply for a regular visa.

Travelers can apply for an ETA through the UK governmentโ€™s website and can expect to receive a decision within three working days. However, the UK governmentโ€™s website notes that a decision may be issued earlier.

Once the traveler receives confirmation that they have been issued an ETA, it will automatically be linked to the passport that was listed in the application.

If an individual renews their visa, they must apply for a new ETA.

When it comes to travel, UK passport holders are among the world's most fortunate individuals. Currently placed sixth on the world's most powerful passports, alongside Norway and the United States, British residents may travel to 183 countries visa-free or with an e-visa or visa-on-arrival.

Furthermore, most countries globally that need a traditional sticker visa for Britons to visit have built facilities due to a reciprocal arrangement between the UK and other nations.

However, a few nations worldwide, notably the United Kingdom, have harsher admission requirements for foreigners . Before traveling to any of these nations, visitors must carefully review the entrance criteria and ensure they are met.

Some of the travel restrictions for Britons traveling overseas, particularly to European Union member nations, are due to Brexit, likely to be a no-deal scenario. Following this page are many listings of countries where UK nationals require and do not require visas for tourist, business, and other non-work-related activities.

UK Citizens Travelling to the EU Member States After Brexit

UK holidaymakers will no longer enjoy the same privileges as EU nationals in a post-Brexit European Union . At airports, they must queue up with third-country residents and provide the necessary documents:

  • A valid passport is required. The key must be less than ten years old and have at least three months of validity remaining when the passenger intends to depart the EU.
  • Health Insurance is Valid across the Schengen Area, with a minimum of €30,000 in coverage for health-related occurrences.
  • In some Schengen nations, proof of residence and financial resources may be required.

UK citizens traveling to the EU will also need an ETIAS, an online permit to enter the Schengen Area, as of January 1, 2021.

Type of UK Visa

The majority of the British visa application procedure, including the visa criteria, is determined by your reason for visiting the UK. The sort of visa you require depends on your reason for visiting the UK, which might be one of the following:

  • UK Tourist Visa – for individuals who want to visit friends or family, go on vacation, do business, receive private medical treatment, get married, etc.
  • UK Transit Visa – for individuals passing through the United Kingdom on their way to another nation.
  • UK Work Visa – for individuals who want to work in the UK.
  • Other visas – such as visas to start a company in the UK or tickets to join a family member already residing in the UK – are available.

What Countries Can I Visit Visa Free with UK ILR

' src=

Although a visa is usually required for cross-border travelers, the United Kingdom has bilateral agreements with some countries and territories, allowing its citizens and residents to enter without visas and stay for a short period. ILR, referring to Indefinite Leave to Remain , is a UK permanent residence permit with which one can live in the United Kingdom permanently. In this passage, we are going to introduce visa free countries for UK ILR holder .

Travelling Outside of United Kingdom With ILR

Supposing that you have submitted an ILR application and it is being processed, you are not suggested to leave the UK, otherwise, your application will be invalidated. If you have obtained ILR and your home is in the UK, you are considered settling in this country. Therefore, you can travel abroad and re-enter the UK without extra visas. However, unlike British citizens who can travel in and out of the country without limitation, permanent residents should pay attention to the length of stay outside the UK. The PR status will become invalid if you are absent from the UK for consecutive 2 years or longer.

What Countries Can I Visit Visa-Free with UK ILR

Visa-free travel is known as one of the most attractive benefits of UK residence permits, but the entry requirements might vary from country to country depending on your nationality, visa type, etc.

UK ILR Visa-Free Countries for All Nationalities

14 countries and territories allow ILR holders to enter without visas despite their nationalities. They are covering Europe, North America, Central America, and the Caribbean Area. Duration of stay and entry requirements vary from country to country.

UK ILR Visa-Free Countries for Certain Nationalities

Can i travel to europe with ilr post brexit.

Yes. According to the Brexit agreement implemented on January 1, 2021, British nationals and permanent residents can take short-term travel to Europe without visas and stay within the Schengen Area for no more than 90 days in total during a 180-day period. When traveling within the Schengen Area, total duration of stay in all member states must not exceed 90 days during a 180-day period, which include Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Donโ€™t forget to check the specific entry requirements of your destination countries.

What Happens If My ILR Is Not Valid

If your ILR becomes invalid, you must not continue residing in the country without limitation. What you should do depends on why it is invalidated.

Supposing that you lose your permanent residency due to absence from the UK for a consecutive 2 years or longer, it is suggested can apply for a Returning Resident visa which allows you to obtain the Indefinite Leave to Remain again and continue to live in the UK. To apply for it, you must prove that:

  • you owned an ILR before which can be verified by a permanent biometric residence permit, stamp in your passport, etc.
  • you have never asked for financial support from the Home Office to travel abroad.
  • you have strong ties to the country, such as being employed, having a UK spouse, etc.
  • you have been absent for good reasons during the past few years.
  • You plan to stay in the UK permanently.

Please note that if you lose the status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS), the returning resident permit is not available.

On condition that you lose settlement status due to deportation, things will be more complicated because you will be banned from entering the UK in the coming 10 years.

Can Indefinite Leave to Remain Status Be Revoked

Yes. Your Indefinite leave status can be taken away on the condition that:

  • you are very likely to be deported but cannot be removed due to legal reasons;
  • you get the ILR by deception;
  • You get the ILR as a refugee and the refugee status ceases.
  • Your permanent residence status will be invalidated in case that:
  • you are deported from the UK, or
  • You are absent from the UK for a continuous 2 years or longer, or
  • You are absent from the UK for a continuous 4 years or longer when you are a Swiss citizen and gain the status under the EU Settlement Scheme, or
  • You are absent from the UK for a continuous 5 years or longer when you gain the status under the EU Settlement Scheme.

A few days ago we reported that the Palestinian Authority was preparing its bid for full United Nations membership.

Late on Tuesday night a UN Security Council committee considering the bid said it was "unable to make a unanimous recommendation" on whether it met the criteria.

"Differing views were expressed" on the issue, according to a committee report seen by Reuters news agency.

The Palestinian Authority is still expected to push the 15-member council to vote, possibly on Thursday, on a draft resolution recommending its full membership.

The Palestinians are currently a non-member observer state - a position granted in 2012 - but full membership would effectively recognise a Palestinian state.

Success for the Palestinians here, however, is unlikely - they need their bid to be approved by the Security Council, and Israel's main ally the US has the power to block it. It also needs support from at least two-thirds of the UN General Assembly.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) says its forces "engaged" two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in areas controlled by Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen.

"It was determined the UAVs presented an imminent threat to US coalition and merchant vessels in the region," it said.

There were no injuries or damage reported by US coalition or commercial ships.

"These actions are taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US, coalition and merchant vessels."

The command also posted on X about an aid drop earlier in the day, with photos.

Statement by National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan:

"Following Iran's unprecedented air attack against Israel, President Biden is coordinating with allies and partners, including the G7, and with bipartisan leaders in Congress, on a comprehensive response.

"In the coming days, the United States will impose new sanctions targeting Iran, including its missile and drone program as well as new sanctions against entities supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iranโ€™s Defense Ministry.

"We anticipate that our allies and partners will soon be following with their own sanctions. In addition, we continue to work through the Department of Defense and US Central Command to further strengthen and expand the successful integration of air and missile defense and early warning systems across the Middle East to further erode the effectiveness of Iran's missile and UAV capabilities.

"These new sanctions and other measures will continue a steady drumbeat of pressure to contain and degrade Iran's military capacity and effectiveness and confront the full range of its problematic behaviours.

"Over the last three years, in addition to missile and drone-related sanctions, the United States has sanctioned over 600 individuals and entities connected to terrorism, terrorist financing and other forms of illicit trade, horrific human rights abuses, and support for proxy terrorist groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Kataib Hezbollah.

"The pressure will continue. We will not hesitate to continue to take action, in coordination with allies and partners around the world, and with Congress, to hold the Iranian government accountable for its malicious and destabilizing actions."

The Ministry of Defence has commented on escalating violence in the West Bank, which increased following the death of a 14-year-old Israeli.

The MoD said it was alarmed by the "shocking levels of violence" in the occupied area.

"These killings, and subsequent actions, are escalating violence in the Occupied West Bank and the wider region at a critical time," it said.

"It is vital that Israeli authorities restore calm and conduct urgent and transparent investigations into all deaths."

Seven Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers since the attacks began on Friday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Israeli authorities have urged people not to resort to vigilante attacks.

The Iraqi prime minister has said his country has not received any reports or indications that missiles or drones were launched from its territory during Iran's attack on Israel.

Mohammed Shia al Sudani said Iraq's "position is clear" that it would not be "thrown into the arena of conflict".

As we have been reporting, Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles against Israel on Saturday.

Iraq is a rare ally of both the US and Iran.

Its airspace was a main route for Iran's unprecedented attack on Israel, and Iraqi officials say Iran informed them, as well as other countries in the region, ahead of the attack.

The IDF has released footage from the Israeli Air Force's control room during the attack from Iran over the weekend.

Times of Israel military correspondent Emanuel Fabian said the footage showed the control room during the first interceptions of the Iranian missiles and drones.

Iran fired more than 300 missiles and drones toward Israel, although minimal damage was caused.

In a world that has grown more dangerous in recent years, the nightmare scenario of a Third World War is in the public consciousness.

Earlier this year, UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps warned the world could be engulfed by wars involving China, Russia, North Korea and Iran in the next five years, and said we are moving "from a post-war to pre-war world".

The relief felt at the end of the Cold War in the late '80s has been replaced with increasing alarm at Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and there is outcry at the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

Sky News spoke to experts about whether World War Three is a possibility - and if we really are living in a "pre-war world".

Read our article below to find out what they had to say...

The two countries have agreed formally recognising a Palestinian state would help to end the current conflict.

At a joint news conference, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob said: "The most important thing is that we have addressed a whole series of questions - when, not if, but when is the best moment to recognize Palestine."

Mr Golob did not give a timeline for this, saying the matter did not depend on Slovenia and Spain alone but on other international factors.

However, he said Slovenia would vote in the United Nations Security Council for full membership of a Palestinian state.

Spain has long been a champion of Palestinian rights and last month agreed with the leaders of Ireland, Malta and Slovenia to take the first steps towards recognising a Palestinian state.

Arab states and the European Union agreed at a meeting in Spain in November that a two-state solution was the answer to the conflict.

International peace efforts have long focused on creating an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel, but these have been stalled for a decade.

Since 1988, 139 out of 193 United Nations member states have recognised Palestinian statehood.

A police vehicle has been struck in Gaza City, killing eight people, according to a report.

The vehicle was thought to be helping with securing aid deliveries and maintaining order, Al Jazeera reports.

The eight people killed were reportedly part of the law enforcement deployment helping in the Tuffah neighbourhood.

The incident happened in the eastern part of the city, which is densely populated.

Several pro-Palestine protesters have been arrested during a demonstration in Miami, Florida, local reports say.

Demonstrators gathered across multiple US cities to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Some protesters were reportedly dragged from the street by police after they tried to lie down and block traffic.
