Rama Krishna Beach is also popularly known as RK beach. It is one of the most popular beaches of Vizag, and I must say this is the place which is the heart of the city. The RK beach name comes from Ramakrishna Mission ashrama over the beach road from the park.

The beach is situated on the east coast of the Bay of Bengal , which is about two to three from the city. The beach is very easy to access, and this is a place where all ages people can enjoy their time.

It has super clean water; it is good for those who love to play with water and along with also you can able to find camels and horse rides. Besides the beach, there are also you find other spots to visit which are aquariums and museums. It is one of the best places in Visakhapatnam on a 1-day trip.

Google Review – I have never seen a beach with ROCKS. So it was a great experience for me to be there. And at the right time in the evening, black clouds surrounding the beach look more aggressive. The view was extremely awesome. Just see these pictures and enjoy them.

waterfalls

Katiki Waterfalls is one of the best sightseeing places in Vizag. I must recommend this place if you are an adventure lover. The place is situated in the Alluri Sitaram Raju district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. This is the place where you can see the outstanding gardens which are covered with lush green forests.

The place is simply to get rich by car which will take approx 2 hours and 50 minutes journey via Araku. On this journey, you will see many small shacks selling coconut water, roasted corn, pure organic honey, and other food as well.

Once you will reach this mind-blowing place, you will feel wow for sure. This Instagrammable picturesque waterfall is above 50 feet high and the most important thing is that the name comes from the tribal dance. It is one of the best tourist places near Vizag within 200 km.

At 1st must say this is a place which has a marvelous creation of nature. The place has located 90 kilometers away from the city of Visakhapatnam and it is almost 750 meters above huge sea level. It is located in the Ananthagiri hills which are situated in the Araku Valley in the Visakhapatnam district.

It is also the best option for those who love animals and wild birds. Between the cave, you will also be able to see the bats and golden geckos. This is one of the best views and picturesque locations which will thrill your day and is among the best places to visit in Araku Valley.

Google Review – Avoid if you are scared of depth or caves. Otherwise, enjoy the colorful cave and the dripping water(be careful, due to the dripping water, sometimes the stairs are wet and slippery). Anyways it’s beautiful and the river beside is a beautiful view as well. You can find many roadside crafts vendors, maybe you can consider a little souvenir. Enjoy your trip.

zoo park

If you are looking for the best tourist places in Vizag, think of Indira Gandhi Zoological Park. It acts as a home for approximately eighty different species of animals spread over an area of 625 acres full of lush greenery. The place is situated only 5 kilometers away from the Kailasagiri.

The beach is located in Vizag city near Rushikonda village. People are used to saying that the place is a house of colorful birds and various types of snakes. So be aware of that. The place has also a small temple, known as Veera Venkateswara Swamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Thus you can have both a day view and a night view of the city.

submarine

The submarine museum is located in Visakhapatnam, RK beach in the south-eastern state of India. The museum has a collection of preserved boats, vintage equipment, and other artifacts. It is one of the best places in Vizag for couples, family & friends to visit.

Other nearby tourist places include Andhra University Museum, Bheemili Beach, and Odiyan Rock Cut Caves. This is one of the top places to visit in Vizag at night.

An almost two thousand-ton submarine parked ashore allows one to walk through it and see the internal workings of a submarine, tiny rooms where they had to manage to do their daily activities. The place is open from 2-8 pm. It has a bathroom facility as well.

Once you are there, spend some time at its most popular landmark, Dolphin’s Nose Lighthouse. The lighthouse is one of a kind and was built in 1892. This icon of Visakhapatnam offers an unforgettable experience as it overlooks Port Visakhapatnam’s coastline, providing a beautiful view of sea activities at night.

It is also very famous among photographers because of its lighthouse characteristics and architecture that shines brightly during sunrise and sunset times. Visitors can get close to lighthouses by walking up some steps through a hillock.

Google Review – A Awesome place to visit in Vizag, It’s under the control of the Indian Navy, and for the normal public we have to choose Yarada road, Just maps the location to Yarada and the once-inclined road starts map for the lighthouse. The opening time is from 3 Pm to 5 Pm and remember to carry ID proof.

It is believed that the temple was constructed by the Vishnukundins, rulers of a kingdom that ruled parts of eastern Telangana , northern Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh from the 6th to 8th centuries. The idol here is a 10 feet long Varaha Narasimha icon, which shows Lord Vishnu’s incarnation of Narasimha in a seated posture.

An idol of Bhumidevi or Earth Goddess is also present here; she is said to be the deity who brought Varaha to earth. Apart from Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism have played important roles in shaping and making Simhachalam a place of spiritual prominence.

Google Review – The fragrance of camphor enchants the entire temple complex. I found the prasad here to be like nectar. All arrangements have been made for the convenience of the visitors. Words are falling short to praise this place. Please do visit this temple on coming to Vishakapatnam.

Teenati park

The dominant feature of the park is an artificial hill with a statue of a golden-crowned sparrow on top. It is often called Maidan Mukku, as most of the city’s population can see it. There are also 3 more small hillocks covered in dense trees towards its edges.

These hills are placed to form the 4 sides of a rectangle, making Tenneti Park rectangular. The Park has been used as grounds for many cultural activities, including the ‘Vizag Souvenir’ which is organized by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA).

There is also an annual flower show held here every year in January, which attracts immense crowds from across Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states like Telangana and Tamil Nadu as well. It is one of the famous hidden places in Vizag.

Located in the port city of Visakhapatnam , Visakha Museum is known for its amazing collection of artifacts and antiques. The museum was built by the state government of Andhra Pradesh and has a collection that spans over five centuries.

It is best visited on Tuesdays as it’s closed every Monday and Wednesday. The museum has an extensive collection of medieval antiquities belonging to the Pallava, Chola, Vijayanagara Empire, and Kakatiya periods.

Another highlight is the archaeological remains found during excavations at Amaravathi village near the museum campus, including relics like brick sculptures from the 2nd century BCE onwards; pottery shards from the 10th CE onwards; terracotta tablets from 2n to rd century CE, etc.

The Thotlakonda is a world-historical landmark in Andhra Pradesh. It has been called The Historical landmark of Andhra Pradesh by James Grant Duff. This scenic place is located in the Visakhapatnam district. The place is best for tourism and must-visit places in Visakhapatnam.

Best Places to Visit In Visakhapatnam (Vizag)

Must visit places in Visakhapatnam

Last Updated on April 8, 2022 by admin

Call it Visakhapatnam or Vizag, it does not feature on the must-visit tourist places in India. And that notion should be immediately changed because Visakhapatnam for tourism is amazing. I did not google things to do in Visakhapatnam or the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam as I was on a work trip and my day was action-packed. It was also expected to rain due to the tropical Cyclone Gulab . I planned to stay indoors as I flew on my work trip from Ahmedabad .

And I regretted not reading what to visit in Visakhapatnam the moment my flight started its descend. My flight window showed beaches and a sharp turn later, some mountains. As I landed and saw some more mountains, I kept thinking, Visakhapatnam is supposed to be a port city and have beaches and all I could see was mountains surrounding it.

This intrigued me and I mentally tried to arrange my work schedule so I could spend some time visiting a couple of places and praying that Visakhapatnam weather doesn’t play spoilsport.

Table of Contents

Where is Visakhapatnam situated?

Visakhapatnam is situated in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Visakhapatnam is a port city having headquarters of Eastern Naval Command on the coast of the Bay of Bengal and surrounded on three sides by the overlapping mountain ranges. Vizag’s shipyard is this country’s oldest and one of the largest shipyards, and the only natural harbour on the East Coast.

Due to the naval base, Visakhapatnamfor for living is a preferred choice for ex-navy and maintains a cosmopolitan culture.

Best places to visit in Visakhapatnam (Vizag)

Visakhapatnam is a class A city and has mountain ranges, valleys naturally formed caves, temples, beaches, museums and even Buddhist pilgrimage sites.  Visakhapatnam is also the ninth cleanest city in India (Swachh Sarvekshan ranking, 2021).

Naval Submarine Museum | Kursura Submarine Museum

If you have seen the movie, Ghazi Attack , you can relate to this museum so much and feel super proud about it. An actual submarine that was used in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 is now converted into a museum. The museum consists of pictures of artefacts and an exhibition of original machinery that depict the life of warriors. It is one of the best tourist places in Visakhapatnam.

Kursura submarine was commissioned in 1969 and served the nation for over 30 years, where it played a key role in patrol missions. The submarine also participated in naval exercises with other nations and made many goodwill visits to other countries. After decommissioning, it was towed to RK Beach in Visakhapatnam and was established as a museum ship, which is the first submarine museum in South Asia. Towing the submarine 600 metres to its final location took 18 months and cost approximately Rs. 6 crores (60 million).

I swelled with pride looking at the mammoth size of the submarine, the engineering functions and the space utilization with which it served for three decades. And that is why the submarine is of the must-visit places in Visakhapatnam.

Tip: The museum is open till 9 pm so you plan to visit it at the end of the day.

Submarine museum Vizag entry fees: Rs. 40 per adult and Rs. 20 per child

Camera fees: Rs. 50 per camera

TU 142 Aircraft Museum

On the road opposite the submarine, the museum is the Aircraft TU-142M museum which was commissioned in the year 2017. After 29 years of service, the TU-142M aircraft of the Indian Navy was decommissioned and converted into a museum. If you are an enthusiats that loves aircrafts then this is one of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam.

You can enter the actual aircraft, but before that there is an interpretation centre developed wherein various equipment and parts of aircraft are displayed inside an exhibition hall. Types of equipment like sonobuoys, propeller, engine, survival kit, anti-submarine missile, data recorder etc are displayed with all details. The design of the aircraft was inspired by the bird ‘Albatross’ by a Russian designer Tupolev. It is the world’s heaviest and fastest flying turboprop aircraft.

After visiting the exhibition hall you will enter into the aircraft. Photography is not allowed inside the aircraft. After seeing various equipment inside the plane you can come out of the aircraft from its front door to then take a photo of the aircraft. You need skills and a wide frame lens to photograph it in one frame!

Submarine museum Vizag entry fees: Rs. 70 per adult.

Camera fees: Included in entry fees. Photography is prohibited inside the aircraft.

Kailasagiri – Best parks in Visakhapatnam | Best places to visit in Visakhapatnam

All the local residents told me to visit Kailasagiri as it is one of the must-visit destinations in Visakhapatnam. Located in the heart of the city, it is perched at a height of 560 feet and offers spectacular views of the city and the east coast. You can take a ropeway to reach the hilltop.

Considered to be a well-known attraction due to the huge idols of Shiva and Parvathi, this is a well-known picnic spot amongst the locals and tourists alike which offers plenty of beautiful viewpoints like Shiva Parvathi Statue, Shanku Chakra Naama, Floral Clock, Jungle Trails, Food Courts, 7 Wonders of Vizag, Shiva Temple, Titanic View Point, etc. You can also hop into the toy train operating at the park which takes a circular tour of this garden at the hilltop.

Go there for the views of Rushikonda Beach!

Entry fees: Rs. 10 per adult (parking fees for vehicle/car/bus extra)

Ropeway fees: Rs. 10 0 per adult (round trip)

Toy car fees: Rs.  150 per adult

Kailasagiri - Best parks in Visakhapatnam

Bheemili Beach

Bheemunipatnam (popularly known as Bheemili)  is one of the longest beaches in the country. Unlike RK beach or Rushikonda beach, there are fewer tourists here which according to me are brownie points. It is easily one of the most offbeat places in Visakhapatnam and can also pass off as romantic places near Visakhapatnam for couples.

Located about 25 km from Visakhapatnam, Bheemili beach has its own character and is one of the hidden places in Vizag. Driving from Visakhapatnam to Bheemili is amazing as you can see the coast on your right side most time and mountains straight ahead in front of you. The Beemili beach is said to be safe for swimming as compared to RK or Rushikonda, but I’d not recommend it because I found it to be a bit dirty, thanks to a village settlement nearby.

There is a major Dutch settlement of the 17th century near the beach. The town also contains one of the oldest Christian cemeteries on the coast.

Have more time on hand? You may plan a Visakhapatnam to Araku valley by car and Borra Caves. Read about Beach camping.

Dolphin’s Nose

A fascinating viewpoint offering gorgeous views of the city as well as of the coastline, the Dolphin’s Nose happens to be one of the must-visit places in Visakhapatnam. Named after the large rock viewpoint that resembles the shape of a dolphin’s nose, there is also a lighthouse which is one of the sought after attractions.

I did not have the time to go all the way, it is about 10kms from the city, but clicked it from RK beach, so yes it is visible from far.

VUDA Park – Visakhapatnam Best Places

VUDA Park, also known as Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority Park (VMRDA) is a perfect family outing and picnic place in Visakhapatnam. With a lovely manicured garden, a skating rink and a musical dancing fountain it is favourite among the locals and the tourists. Many Vizag Tours Packages include this park in their list of things to do in Vizag. The park is located near RK Beach.

Probably the newest addition to Visakhapatnam Tourism, the Ramanaidu film studio is located at the top of a hill. Surrounded by hills on one side and sea on the other side, this film studio is used by several film producers of nearby states to produce movies in national and regional languages.

Entry fees: Rs. 35 per adult, Rs 40 per camera

Simhachalam Temple

Out of the many Hindu Temples in Visakhapatnam , Simhachalam Temple is one of the most popular and frequented temples in Visakhapatnam. It is a famous religious site that is frequented by the locals and all the pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and has a history that dates back to the 9th century when the Later Cholas founded it. It is one of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam for the journey within.

Entry fee: Free

Visakhapatnam famous food

Although the traditional Andhra Pradesh food is on the spicier side, there is no dearth of street food in Visakhapatnam that is more ‘suited’ for the tourist’s taste. While Idli and Dosa are popular, other typical Indian street foods like Pav Bhaji and Chat are available in plenty.

Punugulu Karam is a populr snack. It is a deep-fried snack made with urad dal and rice batter. These crispy orbs are served with peanut and coconut chutneys.

What is a good beach without the Tomato Bajji? Tomato Bajji is readily available on the beaches of Visakhapatnam. This is made of fresh tomatoes that are coated with gram flour and deep-fried and cut into half, like cups, with the tomato flesh scooped out. Served with crunchy peanuts these are a must-try!

Kalakand is Visakhapatnam famous sweet. Made with milk, cottage cheese and ghee, Kalakand makes its presence felt in every local festival. It comes in two variants, brown and white and the brown Kalakand is more popular than its white counterpart in Visakhapatnam.

Weekend getaways from Visakhapatnam – Araku Valley

Araku Valley is one of the best weekend getaways from Vizag. Situated only 100 km away, a one day trip is possible, however, it is ideal to spend at least a day here exploring Coffee museum Araku, the waterfalls and especially Borra Caves in Araku valley. Borra caves are naturally formed Stalactites and stalagmites caves that have interesting shapes that lend a surreal aura to the caves. I have been to such caves before – Mawsmai Caves is one of the top tourist places in Meghalaya and Halong Bay, Vietnam .

Best time to visit Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam gets super hot and humid during summers and it becomes difficult to move around as a tourist. The best and comfortable time to visit Visakhapatnam is in winter in the months of October to March.

' src=

In spite of having served in the Indian Navy, I have never been to Visakhapatnam. It has been on my “Take the kids here” list for a long time now. Lovely read 🙂

' src=

I’m yet to visit Vizag. This post is now tempting me 🙂

' src=

Never been there but goo to know about this place. I cannot wait to go 🙂

Haha do add it to your must visit places in India!

' src=

Looks like a great place to visit! I’m particularly drawn to Bheemili Beach – it looks gorgeous! But I’d also want to visit the floral clock because I just saw one on my trip to Panama and now I think they’re just the coolest things!

Oh there are so many floral clocks in India. We are obsessed with it 😀

' src=

Nice post! Certainly a different view on India than what I saw when I was there. Maybe I should go back for some additional exploring 🙂

Haha i was surprised myself! India is full of surprises even for its nationals 🙂

' src=

Whoah, this looks phenomenal! Bheemili Beach looks like an absolute dream. Visakhapatnam has never been on my list but I’m definitely pinning this for future travel ideas. Thanks, Ketki, great post!

Glad to know that Indian destinations are high on your list 🙂

' src=

Visited this place 15 years back and the submarine is very vivid in my memory. Is not it the same one used during Ghazi attack?

Yup it is! The story is based on this submarine only 🙂

' src=

I have seen pics of vizag on social media many times, its beaches and view points seems tempting.I would love to visit this city and you have described short guide for it. Informative post on Vizag.

' src=

I’ve never heard of this place but it looks like it has tons of great things to do! I’d love to tour a submarine. And the view from Kailasagiri looks stunning!

' src=

I lived in this city for 2 years. Absolutely stunning and safe place to live. I miss Vizag so much

' src=

I like the idea of a whole submarine turned into a museum. I’ve never been in one and yet my cousin did part of his military service in one… Did the navy make a point of serving high quality food onboard? I heard from my cousin that it’s an essential part of making sure that the sailors stay sane during the long weeks underwater…

' src=

Is that a view of Rushikonda Beach..so pretty! We plan to visit Araku Valley from Vizag during monsoons. A day in Vizag should be good to experience all that you mention here.

' src=

Despite the bad weather this place seem stunning and worth to be visited. I have never heard about this place and will have more information about.

' src=

I haven’t set foot on India and there are so many cities/regions to go to. This is the first time I am hearing of Visakhapatnam and it does sound different. It is interesting that you didn’t choose to highlight a temple!

Being an Indian, I don’t go to temples so recommending something I don’t go to is not fair. Also temples are a very tiny portion of what the city offers.

' src=

I’m keen to go to India, as your posts make it seem so inviting. The view of Rushikonda beach looks beautiful. The submarine museum sounds very interesting too.

' src=

The submarine museum looks very cool, with some fascinating history. It’s not something I would have expected to find. It looks like the Kailasagiri viewpoint is a must, and I could not resist Bheemili beach, even though you say it’s not that clean. I looks beautiful, so I hope it gets cleaned up.

' src=

That beach is particularly nice…but my partner would want to go to both of the museums – he loves military museums that let you into the planes and other machinery. And good tip about visiting the submarine at night – we have a submarine museum where I live and it gets hot during the day.

' src=

There are always places in the world that I have never heard of before – very exciting! The submarine I think great. I have also looked at one before and found it pretty tight. Being on the road for longer would not be for me. I like the beach. Can you take a nice bath there?

' src=

I’ve never heard of this place but it looks really interesting and full of lots of different things to do too from beaches to museums. I love that the museum is inside the submarine, what a cool experience it would be to actually go inside and see it first hand.

' src=

Lots of interesting things to do here. Submarines are so fascinating so that would be on my list for sure, and I’d love to see Kailasagiri and the view from there as well.

' src=

Ru not visited borra caves. Aruku velly and near places 100km from vizag city its also belongs to vizag

Unfortunately I did not have time to visit Araku valley. Hopefully next time 🙂

Surrounded by hills on three sides, it is lined by the Bay of Bengal n the fourth, completing this picturesque scene you see here. Unlike other beaches of Vizag, this one is comparatively calmer and peaceful.

If you can visit the beach at the time of sunset and sunrise, you might be lucky to find it without people. Now that would give you the perfect frame, setting and view for those Instagram-worthy clicks, won’t it? But, thanks to its popularity among tourists, the navy does allow civilians access to this scenic spot. So, if you can plan a trip, this tourist place in Visakhapatnam is totally worth a visit.

20 thoughts on “best places to visit in visakhapatnam (vizag)”.

Visakhapatnam is such a beautiful city, with so much to offer. I’m dying to visit here after reading your blog. Thanks for sharing such a great collection of beautiful places to visit. I’m definitely saving it for later.

Such a great variety of things to do; from beaches to caves, taking in submarine museums and airplanes. The clean beach is a bonus too.

You make it sound so great! I would love to go to the waterfalls, the nature preserve and both museums. How convenient that the museums are right across the street from each other too!

I have been to a few submarine museums in the US, but they were all still in the water. This is the first time I see a submarine museum that is not submerged. Looks interesting and I wonder if it was painted silver in front originally?

Wow, it sounds like there’s so much to do in Visakhapatnam! I would definitely check out the museums (especially the submarine and coffee ones) and that waterfall is gorgeous!

Vizag looks like such a beautiful place. I especially love the wildlife sanctuary. Can’t wait to visit soon!

Oh wow..i would love to visit that sub..didn’t know such a thing existed!

Very well written blog, I never knew one can visit so many places in Vizag. I can see a kid will have loads of fun, visiting the submarine and aircraft museum. But the best part is Lambasingi, it looks too surreal and must-visit kinds. How much a 3 day trip will cost, with a decent staying option?

I have many friends in vizag but never got a chance to visit. Now you have given me a plenty of reasons to see the city. Museums look interesting especially the aircraft and coffee museum.

It has been decades I have visited Visakhapatnam, after reading your post I am sure what interests my family and choose accordingly.

Lol I have to admit, I was not expecting this to include a submarine! What a fun and unique museum!

I am so impressed with the variety of things to see in Visakhapatnam. The wildlife and nature is where I would want to spend most of my time, but those beaches and caves look fantastic too.

What an interesting place! I really like the submarine, and I think I would really enjoy visiting the Tribal Museum and learning about the cultures of the local tribes.

Went to Visakhapatnam from Hyderabad a couple of years back on my India visit. Loved Araku valley and the plantations. The submarine museum was unique. First time I ever entered into a submarine.

I love caves, waterfalls and wildlife, so would want to spend my time exploring that. My boys would love the aircraft and submarine museums. It sounds like we should visit the culture center if we come to the area as well to learn about the native people.

Your photo of Rushikonda Beach is amazing! I never thought of India as a beach destination, for me it’s more about the culture, the food and the temples… But to know that this is one of the cleanest beaches in India is very enticing!

Thanks for all your recommendations, this is a great resource!

Visakhapatnam certainly seems to have everything. I love beautiful beaches, but am more interested in the museums (especially the coffee museum!) and the caves. I would really like to visit this area. It looks beautiful but with so many interesting places to check out, it seems ideal for family visit.

We were sorry we did not get to visit the great beach areas in India when we visited. We certainly would head to Rushikonda Beach. As an ex-Navy guy, hubby would not miss the Naval Submarine or Aircraft Museums. I would bargain for a day trip to Katiki Falls or the Borra Caves in exchange for those museum days!

The Bora caves are SO BEAUTIFUL they remind me of Ruby Falls in Tennessee. Lambasing is quite eerie in a hauntingly beautiful way. This sounds like a great place to visit.

Beaches, wildlife and waterfalls, this place ticks plenty of must haves on my list. I can’t wait to visit.

Rose hill church, vizag port, sagar nagar beach, beach road, thotlakonda buddhist complex, thotlakonda, mudasarlova park, hanumanthavaka, tu 142 aircraft museum, pandurangapuram.

The Yarada Beach is the most happening beach in Vizag. If you’re just settling in Vizag, this is the beach you can start your exploration with. And don’t forget to apply some sunscreen before you head out. Clearly, it’s one of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam with your friends (Coz ‘Yaar’ ada, no?)

Most cities have hills a 2 or 3 hour road trip away. But the Kailasagiri is a hill situated in the heart of Visakhapatnam. It offers jaw-dropping views of the lush forests, the pretty beaches and the magnificent city.

The Borra caves are one of the longest caves in the country i.e. one of the easiest to get lost in. Just kidding. There’s plenty of natural light filtering in, so you can find your way around. In fact, the light reflecting against the karstic limestone formations is stunning. So yes, there’s definitely some light at the end of this tunnel!

The popular Aquarium is located on the Ramakrishna beach. It features both freshwater and saltwater fishes. It’s a great place to visit if you’re interested in marine life. And even if you’re not. The entry fee is just 30 bucks, dude.

Vizag is obviously famous for its temples. And the Simhachalam temple is definitely one of them. So it might not be one of the hidden places in Vizag, but each time you visit, you will be stunned. Probably by the number of elephant idols there (honestly, there are like, fifty bazillion of them).

This Zoological park is the third largest zoo in the country. That itself is a reason for you and your roomie to visit it. Over here, you’ll see over a hundred species of mammals, birds and reptiles. And one rare breed of apes – your roommate.

The Vuda Park is spread over 37 acres and it features fitness centres, food stalls and playing areas. Vuda Park is a jogger’s paradise. It gets so crowded in the morning, it’ll be like playing bumper cars. But with your fellow joggers.

Located in Araku Valley, about 90 kms from the city, the Katiki waterfalls is among the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam for 2 days. Especially if you plan to camp with your flatmates. And FYI, there are no growling wild bears nearby. But maybe, you’ll find some noisy tourists.

Dolphin’s nose is one of the most popular viewpoints in Visakhapatnam, and is situated by the beach. But as you’re catching a glimpse of the dolphin, don’t fall prey to the sharks near the shore. They swim pretty close at night.

This famous beach lies beside the Rishikonda hills, and is popularly known as the ‘Jewel of East Coast’. Moreover, it’s one of the most romantic places in Vizag. Once you take a long walk along the coastline with your jewel of a partner, you’ll see why.

The 17th century forts and cemeteries by the Bheemili beach are a flashback to the Dutch era. This makes it a sweet escape from the bustling city. And also the closest thing you’ll experience to time travel.

The Araku Valley is one of the best tourist places near Vizag within 100kms. Mostly because of the coffee plantations and greenery all around. This is a hotspot for photographers. Seriously. Sometimes, you can spot more DSLRs than plants and trees.

The monument was built in 1996 in honour of the Indian Navy. The complex houses a pyre that is always lit up in respect to the martyrs. After walking out of the memorial, you can grab a quick bite in Beach road or just run up to the beach opposite to it.

Most beaches in Vizag are crowded. However, Lawson’s Bay beach is somewhat secluded. In other words, you won’t find any wannabe influencers trying to capture the perfect #beachselfie here. This makes it one of the best hidden places in Vizag.

Coconut trees are a common sight in Vizag beaches. But not every beach has pretty palm trees amidst golden sands, like this one does. The palm trees offer another advantage – you can rest in their shade without worrying about a coconut landing on your head.

Remember Dolphin’s nose? The Ramakrishna beach is located nearby. Owing to its peaceful environment, the beach is often crowded with people who are into yoga and meditation. And if yoga doesn’t really cut it for you, you just do the sit back and relax with some coconut water asana!

The Submarine Museum is one of the hidden places in Vizag. Believe it or not, the museum lies inside an actual submarine – INS Kurusura. When you visit this place, you’ll be fascinated by the lives and pictures of warriors that fought underwater. And don’t worry, the submarine is permanently stationed on land.

Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary

The sanctuary is an abode for wildlife enthusiasts. It belonged to the Maharaja till 1970. Since then it’s been managed by the forest department. It is home to several endangered species like the Indian leopard, Russel’s viper and Indian Muntjac. And the abundant species of people looking for getaway places to visit outside Vizag.

Visakha Museum, Pedda Waltair

If you want to learn about the history of Vizag, you should visit the Visakha Museum. The museum houses galleries that document coastal life and features rare exhibits. Also, there’s a 250 LB bomb from World War II that did not explode after being dropped by Japan. Clearly, one of the most ‘explosive’ members of this list of places to visit in Vizag!

Bojjannakonda is a series of 6 rock carved caves. Dedicated to Lord Buddha, you can head there to experience tranquility amidst nature. But we suggest you pack some food along. There are no eateries nearby. And you don’t want the tranquility to be disturbed by your grumbling tummy.

This is one of the best places to visit in Vizag at night. As the sun sets, the church is lit up with candles and becomes a pretty sight for sore eyes. So if it’s the night before a big exam and you’re yet to open your books, you know where to come to pray.

Hey, guess what? It’s another popular beach along the beach road lol. But no, on a serious note, Sagar Nagar is more than just sand and the sea. It also offers boating and paragliding. If you’re tired of hurting your back working from home, it’s time to stretch your muscles and head out to this beach!

Buddhist monasteries have always been the most zen spots. But this one is situated on a hillock. That makes Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex the zenest of zen spots. And a sure shot name on the list of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam!

The park is located beside the Mudasarlova reservoir. This is where most of Vizag’s drinking water comes from. So perhaps, a picnic at this place will quench your ‘thirst’ for a weekend getaway.

The museum archives India’s military history and features equipment such as anti-submarine missiles and sonar devices. It also has a real Tupolev TU-142 that served the Indian Air Force until 1917. Don’t know what that is? Lol neither do we. But it sounds really cool and demands a visit, don’t you think?

Florida is home to theme parks, sharks, alligators, beaches, but it made ‘most boring’ list

visakhapatnam tourism places list

Florida is boring?!

The Sunshine State is home to Disney World and Universal Studios and has hundreds of miles of beaches. We have the oldest city in the U.S. in our backyard and some of the richest people in the world .

To keep life interesting, we even have sharks and alligators .

Apparently, that's not enough.

According to a study by Solitaired , Florida is the fifth most boring state in the United States , based on an analysis of 66.7 million Google reviews of 3,290 popular tourist attractions around the world. The analysis was made to determine what locations were the least interesting.

Here's what the study discovered.

Takeaways from study on Top 100 most boring tourist sites around the world

According to Solitaired , key takeaways include:

  • Branson Scenic Railway in Branson, Missouri, is the most boring attraction in the world.
  • Museums comprise 33% of the Top 100 most boring attractions.
  • Four LEGOLAND Discovery Centers are in the Top 25 most boring attractions worldwide.
  • Georgia is the most boring state, with many attractions and extensive reviews indicating boredom.
  • The U.S., Canada and Australia hold the top three spots for countries with the most boring tourist attractions. And yes, U.S. was No. 1.

Top 10 states with highest boredom score

"We ranked states based on how often attractions were called boring in reviews compared to the total number of attractions with any reviews labeling them boring in that state," Solitaired said. "By this metric, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Tennessee are the nation's top three boring states."

The "boredom score" is on a scale from zero to five.

  • Georgia: 21 boring attractions. Boredom score: 5.0
  • Massachusetts: 4 boring attractions. Boredom score: 4.1
  • Tennessee: 49 boring attractions. Boredom score: 4.1

How did Florida rank as 5th most boring state in US?

"With its 104 boring attractions, Florida might seem like the boredom capital at first glance ," Solitaired said.

"Yet, it only ranks as the fifth most boring state because each attraction garners very few yawns from visitors. Despite many attractions being labeled boring by reviewers, this sentiment is such a minority that Florida only pans out as the fifth most boring state."

Solitaired, an online gaming platform that creates classic games — like Solitaire — with a focus on improving mental acuity, memory and processing speed.

In March 2024, Solitaired "analyzed 66.7 million Google reviews of 3,290 popular tourist attractions worldwide , spanning 384 cities across 71 countries.

"We focused our analysis on keyword mentions indicative of a bored tourist. Those keywords were "boring," "bored," "bore," "boredom," "tiresome," "dull," "drab," "lackluster," "lifeless," "mediocre," and "tedious.

"We ranked the attractions by the frequency with which tourists mentioned boredom-related keywords, comparing the mentions to the total reviews for each spot."
