At Champagne’s Cajun Swamp Tours, visitors have the unique opportunity to come up close and personal with the mystique of the bayou. One of the most exhilarating experiences is holding a baby alligator, feeling its cool, textured skin beneath your fingers and the surprisingly gentle grip of its tiny claws. As you cradle this young reptile, you are reminded of the delicate balance of life in the swamp, where nature’s ferocity and vulnerability coexist. Lake Martin is a favorite destination for Bird Watching or Birding for tourists from all over the world. This flooded forest is home to 205 different species of birds and is one of the largest nesting areas of wading birds. You will see many species of birds, such as Borrowed Owls, Great-horned Owls, Pileated Woodpeckers, Anhinga, Cormorants, Wood Ducks, Yellow (and Black) crowned Night Herons, & The Great Blue Heron. Other wildlife may be seen such as nutria, frogs, snakes, and best of all, gaint alligators.

Along the way, we may see alligators 3 to 14 ft long. Our experienced guides will explain how Cajuns harvested alligator eggs & alligators.   You will see Cajuns fishing for Sac-A-lait (Means Sack of Milk), crappie to others in the world along with Catfish, Bream, Largemouth Bass and many other favorite native sports fish.

We will traverse very dense aquatic native, and non-native vegetation to Southern Louisiana in our comfortable tour boats. There are many bird watching opportunities with large amounts of alligators.

About Cajun Country Swamp Tours

  Owner, Walter “Butch” Guchereau, grew up on a small Cajun farm located on the banks of the Bayou Teche in Breaux Bridge, La. From early on his father introduced him to the swamps of Cajun Country. By hunting, sport and commercial fishing and just plain exploring he came to know the swamps like his own backyard. Butch put himself through college by working summers on dredge boats located in Louisiana on the Mississippi and Atchafalaya River systems where he experienced the dynamic forces that have built the land of Acadiana over the last 25,000 years. He learned how the rivers, bayous, wetland areas, man’s interventions and coastal erosion are all intertwined and constantly changing. The time he has spent in the swamplands of Cajun Country coupled with college degrees in Zoology and Botany has given Butch a rich insight into the ecology of Louisiana swamps.

This knowledge has been taught to Cajun Country Swamp Tour boat captains to make your tour educational, entertaining, and enjoyable ( More than just a boat ride ). Your swamp tour is taken personally by us because we know that for many of you this maybe your only trip to Cajun Country and it is important to us that everyone’s swamp tour in Cajun Country is both pleasurable and memorable. 

Our tour boats are open Cajun crawfish skiffs powered by an extremely quiet, environmentally friendly, 4-stroke outboard motor with the water intake fixed so that shallow water muck and thick vegetation are not a problem. This very quiet motor, and the relatively small size of the swamp tour boat allows for some great wildlife viewing.

My swamp tour guides and I have spent most of our lives either learning about or earning an income from the swamps of Cajun Co untry - this is where we want to be. The swamps are our passion and Joie de Vivre (Joy of Life), and sharing a few hours with people who love and enjoy nature and the great outdoors is an enjoyable experience for us. Our personal experiences and observations along with my educational background enables us to give you an insightful eco-journey into the swamplands of the Atchafalaya Basin that is educational, enjoyable and entertaining; and just maybe with a serving of Cajun Hospitality this will not be your only trip to Cajun Country.

 Lake Martin is zoned as a non-commercial area...there is no office or store front when you arrive. Tour guides meet all guests at the Lake Martin public boat landing for departure. Look for our blue banner next to the boat dock. Please be sure to make a bathroom stop before you arrive and also PLEASE watch your speed down Lake Martin road. Thank you:)

South entryway to the lake is closed at Prarie hwy 353. Please use front entrance at Hwy 31 to Lake Martin rd. If your gps has you turning onto prarie hwy, pass it up and it will reroute you to the front entrance. Please call us if you have any questions.

"absolutely wonderful. the swamp is stunning with plenty of old cypress rooted in the water. the view are incredible. i wish the owner would have accepted to open to shades on the boat because it was so sunny but he didn’t want, disappointing when it’s 100f… also as much as i love having close encounter with animals, i am not a big fan to disrupt their life. we spent time chasing baby alligators close to their nest…not needed. we saw plenty of birds, alligators,…but the best remains the “floating forest”", "5 stars we enjoyed our swamp tour thoroughly. jason was great he knew his way around and knew where to take us. we saw a ton of alligators and local birds. he was patient and knowledgeable definitely book your tour ahead of time to make sure you get on the boat when you want.".

Awesome tour with a great guide. They do have a small store with bathrooms and drinks and also have a bar attached to the building. There is a large covered patio to wait in. The gators got pretty close to the boat after the guide was able to call some in. Thankfully the boats are covered and the bugs are not bad during the day. Great Swamp Tour in an Airboat near Lafayette, LA

Took the family to Lafayette, LA for a short getaway over the Good Friday weekend and found this on TripAdvisor. I wanted to surprise the kids with a swamp tour in an airboat and went with this place based on the reviews here and in talking with Christine from Atchafalaya Basin Landing & Marina Swamp Tours. She is SUPER nice - from the time I called her to inquire about the tour a fews days earlier, to another time to book the tour, to the day of actually checking in for the tour, and finally after the tour. Craig was our tour guide and he is great and also very nice. The 15 passenger airboat we were on was clean and the kids had clean lifejackets and all the earmuffs were very clean. The tour itself is as advertised - about 1.5 hrs. and we saw quite a bit of gators and Craig knew them all by name! He calls them and they all came to him / the boat and he fed them raw chicken - very up close! They were better trained than some people's dogs. Lol! We went pretty far out and it was neat to see this part of Louisana - the swamps. Highly recommend this particular tour if you're in the Lafayette area.

Had a blast with Captain Tucker! He not only shared some great history, but also some great jokes about living and visiting the swamp. Everyone we encountered there was super friendly and the directions that they provide are so much easier than my crazy GPS. Tour lasted about an hour and twenty minutes. We saw gators, birds and lots of beautiful scenery. It was amazing to see he gators so close. Captain Tucker called the gators in French and they def came when called! Lots of fun for all ages. They provided clean headphones and life jackets. Would def recommend this tour to families, couples and anyone wanting to learn something new about the Atchafalaya swamp and basin. Traveling under the I 10 bridge was def an experience.

What a great tour company so polite and helpful.went on the Sunday but one tour was full so the lady asked one of the guys if he would come out in the afternoon he was at a family gathering but was still willing to come out(we couldn't be that cruel),went next day and boy is it worth the money the views take your breath away and the amount of crocs you see well lets just say littleun loved seeing them.its a must do trip when in the area

We loved every bit of this tour! Our Captain,Tucker, was so nice, very informative and knowledgeable. I loved that he called the alligators over to the boat by name, speaking French to them the whole time. (Plus one was named Marie). Beautiful swamp, the cypress and Spanish moss, turtles, birds and at least 10 alligators that came right up to the boat to shake Tucker's hand! Definitely recommend this tour! Bring a jacket, it was chilly on an 80 degree day.

Approximately 1.5 – 2 hours and the time will fly by like one of our airboats! Please be here 15 minutes before your tour starts.

Each tour varies according to the mood of our wildlife. Customers may see:  American Alligators, Bald Eagle, Racoons, Wild Boar, Turtles, Snakes, Numerous different Bird Species. Live Oak trees, draped in mysterious Spanish Moss, Black Willow Trees, Swamp Red Maple Trees, Wild Iris, and Spider Lillys.

Chances are very high you will see an Alligator on our tours. Especially, in the warmer months. The alligators in our swamps are wild creatures so we can’t guarantee an Alligator spotting.

We offer private tours every day including wedding parties, corporate outings, special events, family reunions, etc. Ask our staff or check our site for details.

We are available to accommodate any kind of group/private tours for you and your party.

Snacks and drinks are always acceptable on our tours.

Sunscreen and bug spray are usually recommended. We will also have sunscreen and bug spray available for purchase in our souvenir shop, while supplies last.

While they are not mandatory. We highly recommend that you book to ensure you will have a seat. We do book up very quickly.

Our cancellation policy is as follows: 24 hour-no questions asked full refund.

Inside of 24 hours, there will be no refunds.

We are a rain or shine event. In the event of severe weather that is unsafe to operate our tours, we will refund or reschedule your tour.

We may delay the start or end of any tour based upon real time conditions and hazards.

Yes, there are a few restrictions for riding on our Airboat tours. The following are not permitted: expectant mothers, children under the age of 5, and persons with neck or back problems are not permitted.
