11 Best Places To Visit In Araku Valley (+Vizag): A Hidden Gem

I went for a solo trip to this little-known hill station lying on the southeastern coast of India. As I hadn’t heard much about this place before, I didn’t have much expectation. However, after the trip, I realised how underappreciated this place was.

It blew my mind how this scenic hill station hasn’t been covered or talked about much among the traveller community in India, even today. And hence, I would like to give you an introduction to Araku Valley, also known as the Ooty of Andhra Pradesh.

Famous for its international hot air balloon festival, world-famous Arabica coffee beans and the deepest caves in India, Araku Valley is a hill station in Andhra Pradesh that is criminally underrated in India. There’s so much more this place offers that’ll make you realize how you’ve never heard of this place before.

I travelled from Hyderabad to Araku Valley on my own. In this guide, I would like to tell you the 6 best places to visit in Araku Valley along with the 5 best places to visit in Vizag, if you plan to come for a 4-day trip. I have included Vizag as well as it is the starting point for Araku Valley.

6. Padmapuram Botanical Garden

5. yarada beach and dolphin nose, 2. where to stay in araku valley, which is the best month to visit araku, where is araku valley (and vizag).

Araku Valley is a hill station in the Eastern Ghats known for its tribal population, lush green forests and numerous waterfalls. Located in Andhra Pradesh and close to the border of Orissa, the nearest major city to Araku Valley is Vizag, lying 111 km away from it.

The best way to reach Araku Valley is to travel to Vizag before making way for Araku Valley. Hence, I recommend you explore Vizag as well before heading off to Araku Valley.

Vizag, also known as Visakhapatnam, is the largest city and the financial capital of Andhra Pradesh. It is a coastal town in Andhra Pradesh, primarily known for its beaches and museums. As such, it offers a different experience to Araku Valley making your trip more wholesome.

6 best places to visit in Araku Valley

I covered Vizag during my first two days before I went to Araku Valley. I have talked about the 5 best places to visit in Vizag in the next section.

For this section, I would like to tell you the 6 best places to visit in Araku Valley in chronological order as I drove from Visakhapatnam to Araku Valley.

1. Borra Caves

places to visit in araku valley

I started my drive from Vizag at around 10 am. The drive was smooth as the roads were well-maintained and you’ll be passing through several villages en route to Araku Valley.

As you go further towards Araku Valley, you’ll be driving through mountain ranges and encountering hairpin bends as cool air starts surrounding you in no time.

My first destination was Borra Caves, which is a slight diversion from the road to Araku Valley.

Known for being one of the largest and deepest caves in India, Borra Caves is one of the most unique places to visit in Araku Valley.

best time to visit araku valley

This 150-million-year-old cave is filled with intriguing stalactite and stalagmite formations of limestone deposits. The caves were created due to the flow of the Gosthani river (which flows nearby) over the limestone area.

The cave was so deep that I spend close to an hour exploring it. There will be several places inside the cave where you may need to bend, crouch or maintain your head due to the irregular formations.

The different lights that are installed inside the cave further add to the ambience and bring out the best of the unique formations.

The only drawback to visiting Borra Caves is that you may find a lot of people inside the cave as it is highly commercialised. However, it is still worth visiting considering the visual delight you get inside the caves.

2. Katiki Waterfalls

vizag to araku valley

While coming back from Borra Caves, take a diversion to go to Katiki Waterfalls, which is only 7 km away. You can visit other waterfalls like Anantagiri and Chaparai in Araku Valley but they pale in comparison to Katiki Waterfalls.

Katiki Waterfalls derives its name from the Katiki village and originates from the Gosthani river. This 50-feet high waterfall flows through a lush green forest and the water is clear and white in hue.

Apart from the falls, you’ll also enjoy the adventurous hike and the scenic beauty surrounding you while hiking the hill. When you reach the falls, you can also take a dip there to re-energise yourself.

You can’t use your vehicle to reach the falls.

where is araku valley

You need to hire a jeep to travel from the Katiki Falls ticket counter and it costs INR 1,500 for 8 members (rates may vary). The jeep covers 5 km of mountain roads till you reach a railway track near Tunnel #44. From here, you have to cross this track and trek 1.5 km further up the hill.

This trek takes half an hour through a forest and the path is narrow and slippery. You’ll find several food kiosks on the way that serve snacks and beverages especially Bamboo Chicken and fresh Coconut Water.

Don’t carry much luggage as the path is steep and uneven. Depending on your pace, it can take up to 2-3 hours for the entire experience.

P.S. I couldn’t visit this amazing destination as I was short on time. But I assure you it will be one of your favourite places to visit in Araku Valley.

3. Araku Coffee Plantations/Galikonda View Point

hotels in araku valley

As I continued my drive towards Araku Valley, I kept ascending the mountains. After driving for 45 minutes, you’ll be greeted by the Araku Valley coffee plantations.

It starts on a stretch of road where you can stop your vehicle by the side and go for a short trek through the coffee plantations. There are also roadside stalls set up by locals where you can have coffee, and buy coffee powder and pepper.

As I’ve seen coffee plantations before, I decided to continue my journey and stopped my vehicle at Galikonda View Point, only 1.5 km ahead.

things to do in araku valley

Galikonda is the second-highest mountain in the Eastern Ghats and the highest in Andhra Pradesh. From Galikonda View Point, you can get a panoramic view of the mountain ranges and green valleys covered in clouds.

Here too, you can find roadside stalls from where you can get coffee, sweet corn and bamboo chicken.

If you’re a non-vegetarian, I highly recommend you try the bamboo chicken which is a local delicacy that is made by cooking chicken pieces inside a bamboo stem with spices.

Like Borra Caves, you’ll find many people who stop at Galikonda View Point for a break so be prepared for the crowd.

4. Araku Tribal Museum

araku valley coffee

From Galikonda View Point, Araku Valley is only half an hour. The ride to Araku Valley from here is a pleasant one.

You’ll be driving through a plateau with a wide expanse of land and mountains in the distant background. You’ll also find many resorts and camping tents on either side of the road.

The first stop I made at Araku Valley was the Araku Tribal Museum.

It was another highlight of the trip.

The Araku Tribal Museum gives you a peek inside the lives of the 19 tribes that live in Araku Valley. The purpose of the museum is to create awareness about the tribal lifestyle and culture in Araku Valley.

araku valley in andhra pradesh

You’ll find galleries depicting photos of tribal weddings, artefacts used by the tribals and the figurines of tribals interacting with each other in their day-to-day lives, among many things.

Overall, the museum is well-maintained and everything has been sculpted and preserved beautifully. Hence, I suggest you spend at least an hour here to get a good understanding of tribal life.

The tribal dance called Dhimsa is performed at 5 pm inside the premises.

There are some shops as well from where you can buy chocolates, coffee and other local produce and other shops where you can get local handicrafts and ornaments.

There are additional activities inside the museum like rope cycling, boating, ziplining, etc., if you’re interested.

5. Araku Coffee Museum

visakhapatnam to araku valley

If you’re a coffee-lover, you must visit the Araku Coffee Museum which is right next to the Araku Tribal Museum.

This small museum describes the origin and history of coffee from Ethiopia to Europe and India via Chikmagalur , Nilgiri and Araku Valley. All of this information is depicted via photos, figurines and sculptures much like the Tribal Museum.

You can also taste and buy different types of Araku Valley coffee products like coffee beans, coffee powder and chocolates.

You’ll need a maximum of half an hour here to cover everything here.

araku valley from hyderabad

Padmapuram Botanical Garden is the next stop in Araku Valley, 2 km from the Araku Tribal Museum.

Built in 1942 during World War 2, it was initially developed to supply fruits and vegetables to the soldiers. Today, it is a fully developed garden, host to a wide variety of trees, plants and flowers including a rose garden.

Hence, it is a great place to walk around and relax especially after your long journey from Vizag.

You can also take the toy train inside the garden that gives you a tour of the botanical garden.

5 best places to visit in Vizag

Excluding Araku Valley, you’ll need two days to cover Vizag. In this section, let me take you through the 5 best places to visit in Vizag:

1. Rushikonda Beach

araku valley tourism

Rushikonda Beach is the most prominent beach in Vizag.

Located 30 km north of Vizag, Rushikonda Beach surrounds itself with hills and curves along the coastline of Vizag. It is a white sand beach with clean waters that has got international recognition for maintaining cleanliness standards.

If you’re into water sports, you can find plenty of activities here like a speed boat, jet skiing, surfing, scuba diving and paragliding.

There are plenty of food stalls as well near the beach.

2. Kailasagiri Park

araku valley weather

If you want to get a panoramic view of Vizag from a height and spend some time in nature, the Kailasagiri Park is your best bet.

Spread across 100 acres on a hilltop, the Kailasagiri Park has a huge garden full of different kinds of trees and plants, a toy train that takes you around the park and a food court as well.

The major attraction of Kailasagiri is the 40 feet tall statues of Shiva and Parvathi.

You can easily spend an hour here walking around the park and observing different viewpoints of the city and sea.

visakhapatanm araku valley

There are two ways to reach Kailasagiri Park. Either you can take your vehicle and ascend through the hairpin bends to reach the top.

Or you can take the cable car via ropeway that covers 700 metres in 5 minutes. You get a bird’s eye view of the city in the cable car. The only drawback is that you may need to wait in a queue, especially during the weekends.

You can board this cable car from the Ropeway Base Station at the bottom of the Kailasagiri Park.

3. Ramakrishna Beach

resorts in araku valley

Ramakrishna Beach, also known as RK Beach, is the most prominent beach in Vizag after Rushikonda Beach. Located along the coastline of Vizag, this beach attracts a lot of crowds.

The beach is huge as it stretches across 3.7 km along a curve much like Marine Drive in Mumbai. But unlike the former, this beach is well-maintained with white sand and crystal clear waters.

There are lots of eateries and restaurants nearby where you’ll get plenty of street food. While you’re here, don’t forget to try the muri mixture which is a staple snack here.

4. INS Kurusura Submarine Museum/TU 142 Aircraft Museum

araku valley places to visit

When you’re at Ramakrishna Beach, don’t forget to visit the INS Kurusura Submarine Museum and the TU 142 Aircraft Museum, which are near the beach.

The INS Kurusura Submarine Museum is the only Submarine Museum in Asia. INS Kurusura Submarine served the Indian Navy for over 30 years before being decommissioned on 27th February 2001.

This museum has artefacts, pictures and life-sized figurines that explain the workings of the submarine and how the officers inside the submarines lived their daily lives. Everything is explained in great detail and well-maintained, hence you’ll learn something new from touring the museum.

haritha resort araku valley

Similarly, you have the TU 142 Aircraft Museum right next to the INS Kurusura Submarine Museum. The TU 142 aircraft had a history of flying the Indian Navy for over 30,000 hours before it was decommissioned in 2017.

This aircraft showcases an array of aeronautical equipment like a survival kit, engine, data recorder, propeller, anti-submarine missiles and sonobuoys.

Overall, you’ll need at least an hour in total for both the museums and by the end of it, you’d have learnt a great deal about the life of an Indian Navy officer and both the machines. As such, don’t miss this experience when you’re in Vizag!

haritha resorts araku valley

Yarada Beach is one of the lesser-known beaches located at a distance of 15 km south of Vizag. It surrounds itself with the sea on one side and hills on the other side which gives it a different feel compared to the Ramakrishna Beach.

Being at a remote village, you’ll find lesser crowds here as compared to Ramakrishna Beach. The drive to Yarada Beach is another highlight as you’ll be passing through a hill and some villages to get here.

Located 5 km from Yarada Beach is the Dolphin’s Nose which is a hill that represents the shape of a dolphin’s nose. Make sure you visit this hill as well as it gives you a panoramic view of the sea and the Vizag shipyard.

Visit the Dolphin’s Nose Lighthouse (at the hill) for the best view from the top. The timings are from 9 am-11 am and 3 pm-5 pm.

You can visit Yarada Beach and Dolphin’s Nose in the evening to watch the spectacular sunset.

1. where to stay in vizag.

Being a major city, you can find different kinds of stay options at Vizag. I stayed at a small hotel along the streets of Vizag but if you want the best experience, I recommend you stay at one of the hotels near the beaches.

For example, you can find plenty of sea-facing hotels and resorts suiting different budgets along Ramakrishna Beach.

The good thing about its location is that Borra Caves, Katiki Waterfalls and Araku Coffee Plantations/Galikonda View Point are all nearby, which are all important places to visit in Araku Valley. You can cover these places together and on the next day, you can drive to Araku Valley, cover the remaining places and come back to Vizag.

How To Reach

How To Reach: Araku Valley Tourism And Travel Guide

The first thing that one should know before planning a trip to Araku is how to get here. All three options (railways, roadways, and airways) are available but not directly. To reach Araku the only convenient way is to reach through Vizag that is 115 km away. Trains will be the best way to get here while airways will help you reach quickly but you will have to shell out more.

As said above, there’s not direct connectivity from Mumbai , Delhi , Kolkata and other prominent cities in India to Araku. However, the neighboring city, Vizag, is a prime Indian city that’s extremely well-connected with all major cities in India. From Vizag, 3 direct trains run between Araku and Vizag and take about 3 hours to complete the train journey. They run daily and provide a stunning view as they pass through several tunnels and valleys. Don’t forget to click memorable pics of your train journey to Araku from Vizag.

Even by road, you’ll have to reach Araku through Vizag. APTDC and some private bus operators run buses but the frequency cannot be relied upon. The majority of tourists prefer hiring a cab from Vizag and riding for 3 hours to reach Araku. We suggest the same as you get a perfect opportunity to click some amazing pictures of your journey. The roads are well-maintained but have sharp turns. Therefore, exercise caution if you’re self-driving.

There isn’t any airport in Araku, so the nearest airport is at Visakhapatnam . It operates both international and domestic flights. So you can get down at Visakhapatnam airport from anywhere in India or from abroad. Araku is some 120 km away from Vizag airport. So you can prebook a cab or after getting down at the airport. A 3-hour ride to Araku from Vizag can be stunning because of the view and pleasant climate. So check online and get your tickets booked to Vizag from your city.

Getting Around:

Being a hill station, public transport is not that developed. So don’t rely on them. To visit the tourist spots in Araku, the best option is to hire a cab. There are several local auto-rickshaws available at the Araku railway station but they usually demand more. That doesn’t mean you have to accept what they offer, negotiate and strike a deal that works best for you. Hire a cab for the day and avoid the hustle of transportation, roam freely, and just admire what Araku is famous for.

Borra caves, the marvelous creations of nature, are one of the top places to visit in Araku Valley. Locally known as Borra Guhalu, they remained a secret to the outside world until discovered in 1807 by William King George of GSI. These million-year-old caves are said to have formed due to the chemical reaction in this limestone region caused by the flow of the Gosthani River.

Chaparai water cascades:

Chaparai waterfalls, also known as Dumbriguda waterfalls, are unique in their kind and thus, are among the top Araku places to see! Surrounded by thick green forests, Chaparai water cascades are a continuous stream of water sliding along the slick surface of wide rock formations. The breathtaking beauty of the landscape draws many tourists to this popular attraction in Araku Valley. It is also the favorite picnic spot of the locals. Move about carefully on the slippery rocks and let the gentle flow of water tickle you while you enjoy the refreshing breeze!

The traditionally designed two-storied building displays fascinating artworks and artifacts of the tribal people such as hunting tools, jewelry, kitchen utensils, musical instruments, etc. There’s also a section where beautifully created human models depict tribal dances called Dhimsa and Mayur. After exploring the museum, go paddle-boating in the artificial pond located within the museum complex.

Padmapuram Gardens:

Padmapuram Gardens is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Araku Valley . Originally built in 1942 to provide vegetable supplies to the soldiers of World War II, today’s reformed botanical garden sprawling 26 acres is a top tourist place in Araku. Besides the exotic varieties of plants, rose gardens, and impressive sculptures, the major attractions of Padmapuram Gardens are its treetop huts (also called hanging cottages) and Araku Express toy train ride. You’ll love experiencing the random swaying motion of the hanging cottage induced by a heavy breeze!

perfect plan for araku trip

one can enjoy visiting araku in the months of oct,nov and dec.,.;,. as i visited araku number of times i advise u guys to plan correctly to njoy the trip., at first remember that araku is not such a beautiful place like ooty or kodai but a 2 day trip to araku would be enjoyable by following the below plan make sure that you're planning on the weekend there is a train (vishakapatnam - kirandul) from vishakapatnam which atarts at 7am. take it,. the train journey will be awesome and i gaurantee it.. get down at BORRAGUHALU stn.. visit borra caves which are at a stone throw distance.Borracaves are natural caves and u'd love it when u see the entrance.,., such a beauty. then by taking local jeeps with high ground clearance one can visit KATIKI water falls.,.,. very much adventurous.., must see then again from BORRACAVES take a cab to araku.,. buses are available but one cannot appreciate the scenic beauties the road way through the coffee plantation will be cool and enjoyable.,., by the time u reach araku it'll be 3/4pm by following the above plan.,., then visit tribal museum.,., it takes hardly half'n''hr then u can visit the most astonishing CHAP RAI which is 15 to 20km from araku.,.,. it is a big rock on which the water flows and the surface is so smooth that we can slide on the rock all the way to the bottom.,.,. my advice is .,., there is noyhing more in araku to see so plz return the day itself ,. and @ halfway down the ghat road u'll find JUNGLEBELLS and u can stay that night over there..,. JUNGLEBELLS are constructed in middle of the forest and u can find resorts deep into forest which makes u feel thrilled.., the next day morning u can return to vishakapatnam on the way u can visit THATIPUDI reservoir where no.of shootings where shot NOTE: one should make reservations for train and night stay at jungle bells saturday at jungle bells will be wonderful, book a cab for all the day and that makes u'r journey cool safety first at CHAP RAI the above said places are ''must see'' places.,., don't skip anything.,.., thank u

I must have expected a lot from the place. From Vizag the road leads to Hills which made me joy but then it started declining as i found the place is "Plane " surrounded by hills at distance, may be thats why its called "Valley". For relaxing the place is ok, but nothing else you can do. I found nearby Anantgiri Hills APTDC Lodge is better located on the edge of Anantgiri Hills. Araku was full of green after the monsoon, but somewhere it lacked. I would rate the place at 3/5, while Munnar/Kodaikanal would be 4.

You must visit to araku by train from Vizag. There are 57 tunnels in hour train journey and before you finish counting on one another will start coming, Enjoy with crowd when they shout while entering into an tunnel . be a child and do that , you will feel the rhythm with your fellow passenger. It is hard to get reservation in that train, but not a problem - go a bit early to station and manage a sit in the very general compartment on Indian railway, trust me you will enjoy more here. watch the curves of hills and flowers at hill side. Take warm clothes while visiting in winter season.

araku trip for 2 days

One should try to reach Araku valley via road and enjoy the steep and curvy drives through beautiful scenery and points ...Try here the Bamboo Chicken Awesome delicious made naturally with resourceful and natural spices and herbs.Yummy...For those who are not comfortable through the Curvy and Steep drives ...should not go by road..u have train as well to reach...but I bet will enjoy the road route.

How is the current situation in araku which is affected with hudhud cyclone. Is it improved or going to improve in coming month. let us know if anyone have visited araku after hudhud cyclone

Did not get Resort Package due to holiday rush, so decided to travel on our own to Arku and Bora Caves. Visit to Arku was a waste and nothing much to see. Tribal Dance and valley view is available if are staying in a good resort. Coffee plantation, Botinical garden and View point are an average attractions if one has already visited oozy etc.

Vizag Itinerary – The Perfect 2 Day Getaway in India

Tired of heading to Goa every weekend? Here’s the ultimate 2-day Vizag Itinerary for the perfect, refreshing getaway.

I was almost about to book another trip to Goa for a long weekend getaway with my friend and somehow, we didn’t feel the excitement we should have before finalizing our trip. We quickly realized we’ve been to Goa way too many times and felt we should try a different place that would give us the breath of fresh air we needed. I’d been to Vizag many years before on a college trip and remember being pleasantly surprised by the natural landscapes. With convenient flight options on offer, we agreed to visit Vizag for the beautiful valleys around the city in addition to the beautiful beaches.

Our goal at Wander Smartly is to make your travels smarter and help you have the best experience on your trips. From my multiple visits to the underrated city of Vizag or Vishakhapatnam in India, I share the all the details you would need to spend two invigorating days here.

Vizag Itinerary

Day 1: kailasagiri park, submarine museum, rushikonda beach.

Start your first day with a buffet breakfast and a relaxed morning at Varun Beach. I stayed at Novotel in Vizag, which is right across the beach and possibly the best place to stay in all of Vizag. Its prime location, majestic views and infinity pool make it the perfect abode for your vacation in Vizag.

Head to Kailasagiri Park – a hilltop park that offers panoramic views of the city and coastline. You can reach the summit by a ropeway or a drive. The park is adorned with sculptures, well-manicured gardens, and walking trails. Witness the colossal statue of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, which stands as a symbol of spirituality and devotion. A visit to the Kailasagiri Park was a calming and divine experience for me. It is well worth a visit on your trip to Vizag.

View from Kailasagiri Park

Next, grab lunch at Sri Sairam Parlour. This is a simple restaurant without any frills, but the food here is lip-smacking. I am a huge fan of South Indian food, namely, dosas and idlis, and found the food here to be absolutely delicious. Their filter coffee had the biggest froth I’ve seen on any coffee I’ve had across the globe. This is a must-visit place on your trip to Vizag. You can even eat here multiple times, like I did.

Filter Coffee at Sri Sairam Parlour

Your next stop is the Kursura Submarine Museum on RK Beach. INS Kursura, an Indian Navy submarine, served the nation diligently for over three decades before being decommissioned in 2001. Today, this once-operational submarine has found a new purpose as a floating museum, showcasing the trials and triumphs of submariners and the technology that enabled them to navigate the depths of the ocean.

One of the most poignant aspects of the museum is its portrayal of life aboard a submarine. Audio-visual presentations, photographs, and personal anecdotes from submariners shed light on the challenges they faced – from isolation and confinement to the camaraderie that developed among the crew members. These narratives offer a human perspective to the technological marvel that the submarine represents.

This museum is at walking distance from Novotel and charges a minimal entrance fee of INR 40 per person and INR 50 for a still camera. It is open on all days except Monday, from 2 pm to 8:30 pm. On Sundays, it is also open in the mornings from 10 am to 12:30 pm.

Spend the evening taking a tranquil walk on Rushikonda Beach. I went here only after sunset and had a mesmerizing moonlit ocean retreat. With its pristine shores, clear waters, and a host of water sports activities, Rushikonda Beach has earned its reputation as one of Vizag’s most sought-after destinations. Enjoy jet-skiing, banana ride, parasailing and even kayaking along Rushikonda Beach.

Moonlit Rushikonda Beach

Have a peaceful dinner at Novotel and tuck in early, as you have a bit of travelling to do the next day.

Day 2 – Araku Valley, Borra Caves, Coffee Museum

Kickstart your second day in Vizag by embarking on a scenic drive to the enchanting Araku Valley, nestled amidst the Eastern Ghats. The approximately 4-hour drive rewards you with lush landscapes, coffee plantations, and breathtaking views. As you approach the valley, you’ll be captivated by its mist-covered hills and refreshing weather. I was completely blown away by the magnificent views of the valley, that made me visit Vizag once again, after a decade.

Araku Valley

Araku Valley is renowned for its coffee plantations, which contribute to the region’s economic and cultural identity. The sight of meticulously maintained coffee estates covering the hillsides is a testament to the labor of the locals who cultivate the cherished beans. Many plantations offer guided tours, giving you the chance to learn about the coffee cultivation process and even sample freshly brewed coffee.

Araku Valley

I reached Araku Valley by road once and took a train the other time. Both ways to reach the valley are fine, you can choose as per your convenience. To check train options, go to the official website of Indian Railways – IRCTC – and put in ‘VSKP’ as origin and ‘ARK’ as destination.

Head over to Borra Caves, a wonder carved by nature over millions of years. These limestone caves boast intricate formations that resemble sculptures, stalactites, and stalagmites. The play of light and shadow adds an ethereal touch to the interiors. Don’t miss the Lord Shiva lingam-shaped formation, a sight to behold. Ensure you wear comfortable clothing and carry a jacket as it can get chilly inside the caves.

The ambiance within Borra Caves is both mystical and enigmatic. The cool air, the gentle echoes of water droplets, and the unique smell of mineral-rich earth combine to create an atmosphere that transports you to a different realm. The faint echoes and reverberations further add to the sense of awe and wonder as you explore deeper into the cave’s chambers.

End the tour to the valley with a visit to the Araku Valley Coffee Museum. I happened to discover this museum on my return journey by chance, and I’m glad I stopped to make a visit! As a coffee-lover, I loved knowing all about the discovery of coffee, how it gained popularity all over the world and many more factoids about my favorite beverage. I also grabbed some freshly brewed Arabica from the local plantations at the museum, and it was just the right touch to the coffee museum experience.

Fun Factoid from Araku Valley Coffee Museum

The Araku Coffee Museum is more than just a showcase of coffee beans; it’s a celebration of the intricate process that transforms these beans into a cherished beverage. The Araku Coffee Museum isn’t very popular and you wouldn’t find many people writing or talking about it, but this place is a must-visit on your journey back to Vizag from Araku Valley. You must also pick up coffee packets from Araku Valley as souvenirs for your loved ones back home. You will also get these at the airport.

The Coffee Museum is open all days of the week from 9 am to 8 pm and charges a meagre entrance fee of INR 10 per person.

Where to Stay

Perched along the picturesque coastline of Visakhapatnam, Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach is a prestigious five-star hotel that seamlessly blends modern luxury with the tranquility of the Bay of Bengal. Offering breathtaking views and exceptional service, this hotel provides an unforgettable experience.

Novotel Visakhapatnam

The hotel’s beachfront setting allows you to relish both the sunrise and sunset over the water, creating a truly magical ambiance that sets the tone for a memorable stay. I stayed there during my second visit to Vizag and absolutely loved the location and the views. Look no further and book your stay in advance to avail great prices.

Best Time to Travel

October to February is generally considered the best time to visit Visakhapatnam due to the comfortable weather and the opportunity to enjoy the city’s outdoor attractions. The monsoon months of July to September do offer lush landscapes, but you run the risk of heavy rain disrupting your plans.

How to Reach Vizag

Visakhapatnam Airport is well-connected to major Indian cities through regular domestic flights. Travelling by air is the easiest and most convenient way to reach Vizag.

Several express and superfast trains run to and from Visakhapatnam, making it an accessible destination by rail. Visakhapatnam Junction is a major railway station that connects the city to various parts of India.

You can also travel to Vizag by private car, bus, or hired taxis. Several state-run and private bus operators offer bus services to and from Vizag, connecting it to neighboring cities and towns.

Local Transportation in Vizag

Once you’re in Vizag, you can easily get around the city using local transportation options such as taxis, auto-rickshaws, and app-based cab services. I had rented a car for both the days to ease my itinerary and make it more flexible. County Road 26 to open Monday for local, critical trips

Limited travel for commuters using the lake city cutoff opens after state and county collaboration as bridge closure continues.

Montrose and Gunnison Counties — This weekend, CDOT and Gunnison County are working together to accelerate improvements to County Road 26 (Lake City Cutoff) so it can open Monday for local commuter travel between Montrose and Gunnison.  At the same time, engineers continue to conduct safety inspections of the US Highway 50 bridge crossing the Blue Mesa Reservoir at Dillon Pinnacles. This bridge, located west of Gunnison at Mile Point 136.3, closed Thursday in the interest of public safety after an inspection revealed a crack in one of the girders. The technical structure name for the bridge is K-07-B.

Recognizing the US 50 closure creates a significant detour for commuters traveling between Montrose and Gunnison, CDOT and Gunnison County officials this weekend prioritized getting a shorter access route in place for local travel between the two communities. That collaboration will continue as officials work to further fortify the road with gravel and manage traffic to a level that the road can safely carry.

“We are starting slow in order to increase the chances we can go faster later. The impact on western Colorado cannot be understated and we are exhausting all opportunities and partnerships to mitigate the impacts of the bridge closure,” said Martin Schmidt, Assistant Gunnison County Manager for Public Works.

On Monday, April 22, pilot cars will lead  passenger vehicles through the access route two times a day in each direction. Because CR 26 is a high-mountain, unpaved road that is not intended to accommodate the traffic volumes of US 50, travel times will be limited and commercial vehicles exceeding a 16,001 gross vehicle weight rating are prohibited. The schedule for piloted travel is:

  • 6 to 6:30 a.m. and 6 to 6:30 p.m. for westbound travel
  • 7 to 7:30 a.m. and 7 to 7:30 p.m. for eastbound travel

The queue for westbound pilot car operations will start near the intersection of CO 149 and CR 26 and the queue for eastbound travel will start near the intersection of US 50 and CR 26. The travel time on the access route is expected to be 30 minutes or more.

County Road 26 will only be open for local, essential travel during these timeframes. The road will remain closed at all other times for the ongoing restoration work needed to ensure the road remains safe for travel.

A hotline and email continue to be in place to assist customers with questions about the closure. Anyone with questions can reach out via 970-648-4423 or [email protected] . Calls will be closely monitored and will receive a prompt reply. Information is also available on the project website at bit.ly/us50bridge . Travelers should refer to COtrip.org or the smartphone COtrip Planner app to plan an alternate route.

“CDOT appreciates Gunnison county’s dedication and hard work as we cooperate to offer more options to help the western slope manage this safety closure.  CDOT will continue to support the county as we focus on the opening of County Road 26 to serve the critical needs of residents,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “County Road 26 is an important local route that is up to five hours more efficient than detouring via state highways. However, this road currently has a natural roadbed and can only accommodate limited traffic - so it is important that we help Gunnison County focus this capacity on the needs of local communities most impacted by the closure.”

There are two recommended detours for through travel via Interstate 70 to the north or US 160 to the south and these detours add six to eight hours of travel time. CDOT is coordinating with emergency service providers to ensure emergency response is unaffected.

Travel Impacts

  • US 50 is closed between Montrose and Gunnison
  • Recommended alternate routes are I-70 to the north or US 160 to the south
  • A limited, local detour is in place for travel at specific times
