Unveiling the Controversial Marketing Tactics of Travelvids’ Owner: From MMA Fighter to Negative News Driver

In the fast-paced realm of digital media, attention-grabbing strategies often blur the lines between ethical boundaries and sensationalism. The enigmatic figure behind Travelvids, colloquially known as “BIGJ,” has garnered both infamy and success through a calculated approach that combines shock-inducing content with strategic marketing manoeuvres. Recent revelations expose BIGJ’s utilization of negative fake news as a tool to fuel outrage and, in turn, boost traffic to his websites,  travelvids.xyz  and  bigj.me . Surprisingly, his unconventional methods appear to have yielded dividends, raising questions about the ethical implications of his tactics.

Notably, BIGJ is not merely an internet maverick; he also holds a dual identity as a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. This intriguing amalgamation of professions adds layers of complexity to his persona, as he seamlessly navigates between the adrenaline-fueled world of combat sports and the digital universe of controversial content creation.

A controversial aspect of BIGJ’s modus operandi revolves around propagating negative fake news. By exploiting sensationalist narratives, he triggers public outrage, which draws curious onlookers to his websites. This calculated approach raises questions about the fine line between responsible journalism and manipulative content creation. However, regardless of moral debates, BIGJ’s controversial marketing strategy has undeniably yielded results, as indicated by the surges in traffic to his websites.

Despite rumours and speculations about his legal troubles, BIGJ has managed to return to countries like Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, Mexico, and Colombia without encountering any legal impediments. The mystery surrounding his identity further adds to the intrigue, with variations in his name—James or Jaymes, Shulte or Schute or Schulte or Shultz—making it challenging to decipher the man behind the controversial empire.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, BIGJ’s case serves as a provocative case study of the power and perils of unconventional marketing tactics. His fusion of roles as an MMA fighter and a purveyor of contentious content underscores the multifaceted nature of modern media personalities. However, it also raises important ethical questions about the potential consequences of leveraging negative fake news for personal gain.

In a world where attention is a coveted currency, BIGJ’s journey prompts us to reflect on the broader implications of such provocative marketing tactics. As audiences become increasingly discerning, the long-term sustainability of such a strategy remains uncertain, leaving us to ponder whether notoriety can genuinely triumph over credibility in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

Big J – Always 15 minutes behind what is really happening!

  • by OneAdmin
  • April 27, 2017

Really at some point you just have to own your own shortcomings.  I’ve always believed that, but when it is something so important to the day to day tasks of your job I just never wanted to believe I had a problem.  Somewhere along the development of The Morning After I found out I had this issue.  I would find something I thought was totally awesome, and excitedly tell my partner Nic.  He would then inform me that it happened 2 years ago.  I’m totally not joking either, it is a reoccurring phenomenon. So much so that I actually just stopped questioning myself and basically accepted that what ever it was currently I was into was years ago. I will sight 3 examples, here and now.

Master Ken:  The Youtube Karate Expert was a huge deal, 2 YEARS ago.  You should have seen the look on my face when Nic told me!  Master Ken is now back at it, but he took some time off.

Example 2: BatDad.  I just happen to run across this on Facebook a couple months back!  I just couldn’t get over it!  I thought it was genius and hilarious. I found this while doing The Morning After, of course I looked up from my computer and told Nic about it!  “Dude that is so old!” he said.  I should have known!!!

Until next time! GO to HELL!

WATCH LIVE: Magnitude 4.8 earthquake hits NJ, rattles entire tri-state; no injuries reported

The u.s. geological survey said the quake hit 3.7 miles east-southeast of califon, in hunterdon county. no damage to buildings or injuries to people were immediately reported. new york's governor said it was the strongest earthquake with an east coast epicenter in the last century, by jennifer millman , lauren maroney and jennifer peltz • published 2 hours ago • updated 7 mins ago, what to know.

  • A magnitude 4.8 earthquake hit Hunterdon County, New Jersey, at 10:23 a.m. Friday -- and it reverberated across the entire tri-state area; there have been no reports of damaged buildings
  • No injuries were immediately reported; no earthquake of that magnitude has had an epicenter near NYC since 1884, according to the U.S. Geological Survey
  • Emergency management officials say no aftershocks are likely, but they are also unpredictable; if you find yourself in one, drop to the floor and cover your neck, experts say

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck New Jersey Friday, triggering frenzied phone calls from Manhattan to Albany to Long Island, Montclair and New Haven, as buildings rumbled in a region unaccustomed to the ground shaking.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit 3.7 miles east-southeast of Califon, in Hunterdon County, about 45 miles west of New York City, at 10:23 a.m. It was a shallow earthquake, only 2.9 miles deep, which means an earthquake of that strength would be felt by a larger number of people. USGS put that number at 42 million.

"We're taking this extremely seriously," New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said, calling it the most powerful earthquake felt by the East Coast since at least 2011 and the strongest to hit the East Coast directly in the last century.

Get Tri-state area news and weather forecasts to your inbox. Sign up for NBC New York newsletters.

For context, a magnitude 4.0 quake can be felt about 60 miles from the epicenter. This 4.8 one reverberated throughout the entire tri-state, and was felt as far away as Maryland and Massachusetts, according to witness reports.

USGS reported "moderate" intensity near the epicenter, with light and weak shaking reported regionally. Aftershocks are unpredictable but possible, experts say. USGS reported a small one - magnitude 2.0 -- in Bedminster, New Jersey, around 11:20 a.m. If you find yourself in one, experts say you should drop to the floor and cover your neck.

Hochul said she directed her team to conduct damage assessments, including checking all state roads as well as major transmission lines and dams. The Democrat encouraged all municipalities to send crews for structural integrity assessments and vulnerable locations.

She also said the White House had pledged any assistance necessary to the New York area, and that she extended the same offer to Gov. Phil Murphy in New Jersey.

Earthquakes with magnitudes near or above 5 struck near New York City in 1737, 1783 and 1884, the USGS said.

Friday's quake stirred memories of the Aug. 23, 2011, earthquake that jolted tens of millions of people from Georgia to Canada. With an epicenter in Virginia, it left cracks in the Washington Monument and rattled New Yorkers ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

big j travel video

In New York City, people described feeling the quake as a slight vibration. Some thought it was just a subway rolling underground beneath them. A meeting at the United Nations was briefly disrupted. Hour-long ground stops were ordered at JFK and Newark airports to allow crews time to ensure the quake didn't cause any runway cracks.

The Department of Education sent messages to guardians of New York City Public School students ensuring them that their kids' were safest inside their classrooms, and that dismissal would proceed as usual later in the day. Should the situation change, city schools would notify stakeholders appropriately, officials said.

The NYPD says all relevant emergency agencies were being briefed on the situation. At this point, impacts appear minimal. Mayor Eric Adams was expected to join Office of Emergency Management officials at a noon briefing.

The MTA said service was not affected, though teams may be dispatched later to inspect train lines. New Jersey Transit, meanwhile, was reporting up to 20-minute delays due to crew bridge inspections in the aftermath.

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit west of Manhattan and has been felt throughout New York. My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day. — Governor Kathy Hochul (@GovKathyHochul) April 5, 2024

It's not the first quake to rumble the tri-state area this year. In January, a magnitude 1.7 earthquake struck near Astoria, Queens, according to USGS.

Earthquakes in the New York City area are rare, even if they seem increasingly common in recent years.

There are fault lines in the city but experts say residents have nothing to fear.

“I wouldn’t worry about it too much. The East Coast has been geologically stable for millions of years," Stephen Holler, an associate professor of physics and engineering at Fordham University, said.

He doesn't expect aftershocks to be a concern.

While a relatively strong earthquake for this part of the United States, it doesn't compare to the one that hit Taiwan earlier this week. T he country's strongest earthquake in more than 25 years, the magnitude 7.4 quake that hit Wednesday killed at least nine people died and hurt more than 1,000. Scores remain missing.

Earthquake felt across Northeast

In Astoria, Cassondra Kurtz was giving her 14-year-old Chihuahua, Chiki, a cocoa-butter rubdown for her dry skin. Kurtz was recording the moment on video, as an everyday memory of the dog’s older years, when her apartment started shaking hard enough that a 9-foot-tall mirror banged audibly against a wall.

Kurtz assumed at first it was a big truck going by. The video captured her looking around, perplexed. Chiki, however, “was completely unbothered.”

Attorney Finn Dusenbery was in a law office in midtown Manhattan. “The building shook and I thought that the ceiling above me was going to collapse,” Dusenbery said. “I did think that maybe the building was going to fall down for a second, and I wanted to get out of the building when I felt that.”

At a coffee shop in lower Manhattan, customers buzzed over the unexpected earthquake, which rattled dishware and shook the concrete counter. “I noticed the door trembling on its frame,” said India Hays, a barista. “I thought surely there couldn’t be an earthquake here.”

Solomon Byron was sitting on a park bench in Manhattan’s East Village when he felt an unfamiliar rumble. “I felt this vibration, and I was just like, where is that vibration coming from,” Byron said. “There’s no trains nowhere close by here or anything like that.” Byron said he didn’t realize there had been an earthquake until he got the alert on his cellphone.

People in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Connecticut and other areas of the Northeast reported shaking. Tremors lasting for several seconds were felt over 200 miles away near the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border.

Did New Jersey just have an earthquake? Yes, in Hunterdon County

If you felt that, you're not alone.

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook up the region shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday and people all over were on social media talking about the eruption.

Stay tuned for updated coverage .

Where was the earthquake?

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Whitehouse Station, Hunterdon County, at 10:23 a.m.

The earthquake was 4.77 kilometers North Northeast of White House Station New Jersey and the depth was five kilometers. People as far away as Bear, Delaware, and Germantown, New York, felt the rumble.

▶▶ What do you need to do after an earthquake? Tips from Seismic Safety Commission

When was the last earthquake in New Jersey?

The last earthquake in the Garden State was on March 15, measuring magnitude 2.2 struck near Whitehouse Station in Hunterdon County about 3 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 8.7 kilometers, the survey said.

Prior to March 15, the last earthquake in New Jersey was a 1.7-magnitude that occurred near the Lake Telemark section of Roxbury Township in Morris County in August 2022, according to the survey.

There have also been earthquakes at the Jersey Shore: a 2.2-magnitude at Tuckerton in June 2021; a 3.1-magnitude near Marlboro in September 2020; and a 1.4-magnitude that occurred near Keansburg in August 2017.

What was the strongest earthquake in NJ?

One of the strongest earthquakes at the Jersey Shore was a magnitude 3.8 quake that struck near Freehold on January 30, 1979.

“Objects were shaken from shelves and minor cracks were reported in masonry walls in a few towns near the epicenter” during that quake, according to the Northeast States Emergency Consortium.

Earthquakes of less than a magnitude 3 are considered weak quakes with little noticeable shaking, according to the California Earthquake Authority.

South River homes shake, branches knock, alarms triggered

In South River, the start of rumbling was accompanied by small knick-knacks and toys falling from shelves.

While at first it seemed likely that a truck or construction vehicle was headed down the street, it soon became apparent that something else was at play.

The house continued to shake for 20 to 30 seconds, as the rumbling noises continued, branches knocked against the walls, roof and windows, clanging noises were heard from a metal chimney pipe and a glass break security alarm was triggered.

The power remained on, and there was no apparent damage at an electrical substation on Southside Avenue nor at a neighborhood park on the street.

Loud rumbling, shaking in Milltown

In Milltown, about 30 miles from the earthquake’s epicenter, a loud rumbling noise accompanied shaking on Herbert Avenue in Milltown. A songbook fell off a piano inside one house.

Neighbors ran out of their homes and stood on lawns and porches asking each other what had just happened.

“It felt like my house was going to fall down,” said one resident. Another wondered if a residential construction project might have collapsed and caused the rumbling.

No visible damage was apparent on the block.

Stevie J posted a video that is Diddy 's biggest PR offensive to date ... and the message is clear -- check out who parties with Diddy, because it's virtually every big celeb in Hollywood.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

The video is a highlight reel of Diddy's 50th birthday bash back in 2019 in Bev Hills, and the guest list is the Oscars meets the Grammys meets the ESPY awards.

Among the guests ... Kobe Bryant , Dr. Dre , Jay-Z , Mary J. Blige , Kim and Khloe Kardashian , Kylie Jenner , Post Malone , Naomi Campbell , Cardi B , Big Sean , Travis Scott , The Weeknd , Kanye West , Jaden Smith , Snoop Dogg , Queen Latifah , Kevin Hart , MGK , and on and on.

It's not hard to read between the lines -- with all the talk of sex parties, they're trying to show this is what really goes on behind closed doors at Diddy's parties.

Of course, both could be true -- celeb-packed back-tie events, but also sex parties outside the spotlight -- and that's what the feds are examining after last week's raids .

What's clear, however, since Stevie has been Diddy's biggest and most public ally ... Diddy is active in trying to shape a new narrative for public discussion, and reminding everyone exactly who's been happy to party with him.

4.8 magnitude earthquake rattles NYC, New Jersey: Live updates

NEW YORK – A 4.8 magnitude earthquake recorded in New Jersey shook residents in surrounding states and New York City on Friday morning.

The temblor was reported about 5 miles north of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, at about 10:23 a.m. Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter was about 45 miles away from New York City, where residents reported shaking furniture and floors.

No major disruptions or damage have been reported in New Jersey or New York.

"We have activated our State Emergency Operations Center. Please do not call 911 unless you have an actual emergency," said New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said the quake was felt throughout New York, and officials are assessing impacts and any potential damage.

In Yonkers, New York, Mayor Mike Spano said City Hall shook but no injuries were reported.

"A few moments ago our entire house shook for about 25 seconds or so here in Mendham, NJ," former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said.

New Jersey business owner describes worst quake ever felt, but went right back to work

It was a busy day for La Bella Salon & Spa in Lebanon, New Jersey, when an earthquake struck near the rural township.

About a dozen stylists and customers, some who were getting their hair dyed while others got manicures and eyelash extensions, all froze as the building rattled for about 30 seconds.

“People started to feel the shaking, and it got worse and worse. We were like ‘Oh, my god, what is going on?’" said shop owner Rosanne Drechsel. “I thought a truck hit the building or something.”

After the tremor subsided, nearly everyone in the building started receiving texts and phone calls from friends and family, Drechsel, 61, said.

Nothing was damaged and no one was injured, but Drechsel, who was born and raised in New Jersey, said it was “by far the worst earthquake” she had ever felt.

“We all went back to work and finished the appointments,” she said. “Customers are calling now to see if we're still open and if they can still make their appointments later on today.”

'It was scary': Quake rattles shelves in Brooklyn bodega

In Brooklyn, residents said they felt their buildings shake and many went outdoors after the rumbling stopped to check in with neighbors.

Julio Melo, a deli worker, said he thought the sounds of the earthquake resembled those of a large truck going down the street. But when Melo, 32, looked around and saw beer bottles rattling on store shelves, and a potted plant shimmy down the counter, he thought it might be something bigger, he told USA TODAY.

“I looked at my employee and he had the same tragic face on as me, it was scary,” he said at Jenesis’ Grocery Corp. in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

-Claire Thornton

Where was the earthquake felt?

Residents and officials said the earthquake was felt throughout New York, as well as in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and elsewhere. It was also felt as far away as Cambridge, Massachusetts, about 250 miles away from the reported epicenter.

Charita Walcott, a 38-year-old resident in the Bronx borough of New York, said the quake felt "like a violent rumble that lasted about 30 seconds or so."

"It was kind of like being in a drum circle, that vibration," she said.

Earthquakes common in the region, but the size is unusual: Expert

Dr. Chuck Ver Straeten, a geologist and curator of sedimentary rocks at the New York State Museum, told USA TODAY it’s not surprising this earthquake happened where it did.

“New York, around New York City going into New Jersey, there’s a lot of earthquakes historically down there. Happens every year,” he said. But it’s less common for them to be of such a high magnitude. It’s not surprising that many people felt it, he said. Usually earthquakes in the region are at a lower magnitude and less likely to be felt.

Ver Straeten said the real question now is if this is just a precursor to a larger quake.

“You never know what is the earthquake, what is a pre-earthquake, what is an earthquake happening after the main earthquake, you just have to see,” he said. “One slip along the rock fault, when one happens, it makes other areas around there more tense also and they start to slip and you slip again and slip again.”

But, he added, it would be unlikely for a larger quake to follow this one. In the Northeast, it’s more common for one large quake to be followed by smaller aftershocks, rather than a mounting series of tremors.

Ground stops issued at regional airports

The Federal Aviation Administration issued departure ground stops for New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) until 11:30 a.m. ET and New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) until 12:30 p.m. According to flight-tracking website FlightAware, JFK is seeing about 32 departure delays and EWR about 41 as of 11 a.m. ET.

The FAA said there's a "medium" probability of extending the ground stops.

What does magnitude mean in an earthquake?

Magnitude is a measurement of the strength of an earthquake . Officially it's called the Moment Magnitude Scale . It's a logarithmic scale , meaning each number is ten times as strong as the one before it. So a 5.2 earthquake is moderate while a 6.2 is strong.

The magnitude and effect of an earthquake, according to Michigan Technological University :

  • Below 2.5: Generally not felt
  • 2.5 to 5.4: Minor or no damage
  • 5.5 to 6.0: Slight damage to buildings
  • 6.1 to 6.9: Serious damage
  • 8.0 or greater: Massive damage, can totally destroy communities

Intensity scales, measured in Roman numerals, are used to describe how strong the earthquake felt to people in the area.

According to the California Earthquake Authority , an intensity of I is typically felt only under especially favorable conditions. A IV, which leads to light shaking, is felt indoors by many, but not typically outdoors. It might awaken some people at night and lead to a sensation like a truck striking a building. A parked car would rock. Intensities VI and above would be strong, frightening and felt by all, with the damage increasing up to a X where the shaking would be violent. Some well-built wooden structures would be destroyed and most masonry and frame structures along with their foundations would be ruined.

While you might have heard the term " the Richter Scale " used to describe earthquakes, it is no longer commonly used because it was only valid for certain earthquake frequencies and distance ranges.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Live Updates: 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles New York City and Northeast

There were no immediate reports of damage. Mayor Eric Adams said at a news conference that aftershocks could happen, but that “New Yorkers should go about their normal day.”

Here’s the latest on the earthquake.

A magnitude-4.8 earthquake rumbled through the northeastern United States at 10:23 a.m. on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey, sending tremors from Philadelphia to Boston and jolting buildings in Manhattan and throughout the five boroughs.

The U.S.G.S. reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was in Lebanon, N.J., about 50 miles west of New York City, where frightened residents darted into streets wondering what had just happened.

The New York Police Department said it had no immediate reports of damage, but sirens could be heard all over the city. Several East Coast airports issued ground stops halting air traffic in the immediate aftermath.

Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement Friday morning that New York City did not have any reports of “major impacts or injuries” so far. He said the city would continue its inspections of critical infrastructure.

“I encourage all New Yorkers to check on your loved ones, and if you feel an aftershock, drop to the floor, cover your head and neck, and take cover under a solid piece of furniture, next to an interior wall, or in a doorway,” he said.

Here’s what else to know:

The Police Department’s chief of transit said on X that no structural damage had been reported within the subway system and there were no service disruptions as a result of the earthquake. New York City’s public schools reported no immediate signs of damage or compromised buildings either, said Nathaniel Styer, a spokesman. “The safest place for our kids right now is in our schools,” Mr. Styer said. “Schools are operating as normal.”

New York City officials were slow to send an alert about the earthquake. A beeping text alert went out to some residents at 11:02 a.m., nearly 40 minutes after the earthquake hit. Mr. Adams has received criticism in the past over his delayed response to emergencies, including floods and wildfire smoke.

Gov. Phil Murphy of New Jersey said on X that the state had activated its emergency operations center, and urged residents not to call 911 unless they were having an actual emergency. Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania said on X that his team and the state’s emergency management agency were monitoring the situation.

There is a small chance — roughly 3 percent — of a large aftershock to come, and smaller ones are more likely, according to an aftershock forecast by the U.S.G.S. Aftershocks are common after an earthquake, and officials in New York City warned residents to be prepared for them.

While most earthquakes in the Northeast go undetected, New Yorkers have felt several over the years. A 2.2 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of New York and New Jersey in May of last year, and a 3.6 magnitude earthquake rocked the town of Adams Center , N.Y., the month before that. In 2011, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake in Virginia led to the evacuation of City Hall and Midtown office buildings in Manhattan.

New York City added earthquake safety provisions to its building code in 1995, but most of the city’s roughly 1 million buildings were built before then. The city has more than 100,000 multifamily buildings made out of unreinforced brick, mostly built before the 1930s. These buildings have a higher risk of collapsing during a strong earthquake, according to the city.

Emma Fitzsimmons , Erin Nolan , Mihir Zaveri and Troy Closson contributed reporting.

Emma Fitzsimmons

Mayor Adams said that he did not feel the earthquake. He was at Gracie Mansion in Manhattan at a youth summit, and his security detail told him about it.

The New York City schools chancellor said at a news conference with Mayor Adams that all students in public schools were safe, and parents should not pick up their children early. Dismissal will happen as usual this afternoon.

Earthquake Shakes X Awake

In the olden days, before it was X and before many users decamped to alternative social media platforms , Twitter was the place to be for a collective experience. Election updates! Weather events! That time Oprah interviewed Meghan Markle ! Whether these moments were fun or terrifying or both, the site was where millions of people went to ask “What’s happening?”

On Friday morning, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 shook New York City and beyond around 10:23 a.m., according to the United States Geological Survey. The U.S.G.S. also reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was northeast of Lebanon, N.J., and that its tremors could be felt in cities from Philadelphia to Boston.

They could also be felt on X, where some social media users — shaken, quite literally, from dormancy — began posting questions, fears and a fair few jokes. While there has been much discussion in recent months over whether people use X with the same zeal they once did Twitter, one thing quickly became clear. In a moment of collective curiosity and concern, X is still where many people go first to find out more. (And then talk about what is happening ad nauseam, probably to the annoyance of those on the platform who were not physically rattled on Friday morning.)

First, there were the curious, those seeking affirmation that what they felt was real. Some flocked to X simply to ask, Did the ground just start shaking? Exhibit A: The actor Jessica Chastain, who posted : “Did we just have an earthquake?! NYC.”

Then came the official updates. Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York quickly posted some details about the size and scope of the quake. “My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day,” she posted , noting the earthquake hit “west of Manhattan.”

Then, finally, the jokes. “Congrats to NJ for officially being referred to as west of Manhattan by the Gov,” Ben Max, executive editor and program director of the Center for New York City Law wrote . “I AM FINE,” the official account of the Empire State Building reassured its nearly 300,000 followers.

Others, including Ms. Chastain, shared well wishes. “Hope everyone is ok and that our buildings weren’t damaged,” she later posted with a heart emoji. The New York Police Department said it had no immediate reports of damage.

Mayor Eric Adams said that earthquakes were unusual in New York City and could be “extremely traumatic” for some. He urged New Yorkers to be aware that aftershocks could happen, though a top emergency official for the city said the probability was “low.”

Mayor Eric Adams said at a news conference that aftershocks could happen but that “New Yorkers should go about their normal day.”

Amtrak officials said that train speeds were being restricted throughout the Northeast while crews inspect tracks for earthquake damage.

An aftershock with a magnitude of 2.0 — likely too weak to be felt by many — happened at about 11:20 a.m. near Bedminster, N.J., according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey.

A text message shortly after noon told New York City residents that dismissal will proceed as usual at New York City public schools this afternoon.

Transit officials in Philadelphia said that no injuries or damage had been reported within the region’s transit system, and that trains and buses were running as usual as of about 11:45 a.m. They noted that crews are still inspecting the system for structural impacts from the earthquake.

Mattathias Schwartz

The Philadelphia police asked residents not to call 911 unless they had an emergency to report. Joe Grace, a spokesman for Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, said the request was made because of the large number of calls coming in after the quake. Grace said city officials were checking Philadelphia’s municipal buildings but had so far found no damage.

Jeff Mays

Some New York City officials took to social media to criticize what they considered a delayed emergency alert after the earthquake. Shaun Abreu, a councilman who represents Upper Manhattan, wrote on X that he didn’t know if he was “startled more by the earthquake or the 39 min late emergency alert that just came in.” Justin Brannan, a councilman who represents southern Brooklyn, posted the alert and wrote sarcastically, “Yes boo we know.”

Christine Chung

Airports in the New York City metropolitan area are conducting runway inspections, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said. John F. Kennedy International Airport and La Guardia Airport have been cleared. Departing flights remain paused at Newark Liberty International Airport.

There is a 3 percent chance of a large aftershock within the next week and it is more likely that there could be smaller aftershocks in the coming days, according to an aftershock forecast for New York City’s earthquake by the United States Geological Survey. The federal agency said there is 3 percent chance of aftershocks within the next week that are larger than magnitude 5, which can be damaging. There is a 46 percent chance of a magnitude 3 or higher aftershock within the next week.

A second alert from the city went out to New Yorkers at 11:54 a.m. warning that aftershocks could happen, but that New Yorkers could continue their “usual activities.”

State officials in Albany said that they had been in touch with counties as well as nuclear facilities across the state, with no reports of damage aside from a gas leak in Rockland County. “Fortunately here in the state of New York, we are masters of disasters," Hochul said. “We know how to handle this.”

Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement shortly before noon that New York City did not have any reports of “major impacts or injuries” so far. He said the city would continue its inspections of critical infrastructure.

A little over an hour after an earthquake rattled the State Capitol in Albany, Gov. Kathy Hochul told New Yorkers that the state had not identified any life-threatening situations but was nonetheless reviewing all vulnerable infrastructure. “This is one of the largest earthquakes on the East Coast to occur in the last century,” she said, adding that the state was taking the review “extremely seriously.”

Flights at John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport are fully grounded, Hochul said, with no planes taking off at this time. Amtrak and the M.T.A. are running on normal schedules with no interruptions.

Based on U.S.G.S. data as of 11:25 a.m. Eastern, the quake in New Jersey is the third strongest within 250 miles of New York City since 1950.

The shaking was felt across a wide swath of southern New England, from the Berkshire region in western Massachusetts to Cape Cod and Rhode Island. Residents reported rattling windows, swinging doors and vibrations in walls or on the ground that some initially attributed to construction or truck traffic.

Officials running New York City’s public housing system, where more than 300,000 New Yorkers live in dozens of deteriorating buildings, said they were “assessing conditions across the portfolio.”

Michael J. Fox Says He Is Open to Acting Again Despite His Previous Retirement

The actor stepped back from on-screen work in 2020..

Adele Ankers-Range Avatar

Michael J. Fox has revealed that he would consider coming out of retirement to act again if a suitable role was on the table.

Fox stepped back from on-screen work in 2020 amid his decades-long battle with Parkinson's disease, but it now seems like he is open to returning. The actor shared his current stance on acting in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight , telling the outlet that he would make a comeback for the right opportunity.

"If someone offers me a part, and I do it, and I have a good time, great," Fox declared. "I would do acting if something came up that I could put my realities into it, my challenges, if I could figure it out."

Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's back in 1991 and went public with his diagnosis in 1998. He later set up the Michael J. Fox Foundation – an organization dedicated to finding a cure for the degenerative disease. The 62-year-old star admitted that his work with the foundation (and his family) had taken priority over acting.

"My biggest goal, I think, was to raise a family. We have four amazing kids, and that's been the big thing," Fox said, referencing his children, whom he shares with his wife Tracy Pollan. "And then the other is with the [Michael J. Fox] foundation."

Fox added that the 2023 documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Story , which was released on Apple TV+ last year, chronicling his personal and professional triumphs and travails, "just happened," but it ended up being "a big thrill" and "fun" project to be a part of despite the fact he "never would have set that as a goal."

The documentary recounts Fox's extraordinary story and rise to stardom in 1980s Hollywood. He had many memorable roles during this time, including playing Alex P. Keaton on the NBC sitcom Family Ties and starring as Marty McFly in the hit Back to the Future movies alongside Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown.

The Top 15 Time Travel Movies of All...Time

Whether it's the story of a killer cyborg sent back in time to wipe out the future leader of a rebellion, the tale of some poor soul forced to relive the same day over and over in a time loop, or the fable of an investigator playing with time in order to solve a mystery, this particular sci-fi terrain is always fruitful. Here are the top 15 time travel films ever!

Fox shared an emotional reunion with Brown at New York Comic Con in 2022, as both actors appeared onstage to rapturous applause from attendees. "The best part of the movie was working with Chris," Fox said of Lloyd during the panel, in which he referred to his co-star as the "King of Exposition," per the New York Post .

In the same year, Fox received an honorary Oscar , more specifically, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, which is an award given to an "individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry," according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' website .

Trump's social media stock tumbles, erasing early gains

Stock in the parent company of Donald Trump's social media company fizzled on Monday, reversing last week's big gains.

Stock in the parent company of former president Donald Trump's social media platform fell sharply on Monday, erasing last week's market gains and shaving more than a billion dollars off the value of Trump's stake.

The drop came after a regulatory filing , in which the company — ticker symbol DJT — reported losing $58 million last year, on revenues of just over $4 million.

The platform, Truth Social, which Trump started after being kicked off Twitter (now known as X), has far fewer users than other social media outlets. And its heavy dependence on Trump's own posts make it vulnerable.

"The value of [Trump Media and Technology Group's] brand may diminish if the popularity of President Trump were to suffer," the company said in its filing. "To the extent users prefer a platform that is not associated with President Trump, TMTG's ability to attract users may decrease."

Despite Truth Social's financial losses, Trump loyalists eagerly snapped up shares in the parent company when trading began last week . The stock jumped more than 30% in its first two days on the market, making Trump's shares worth more than $5.2 billion.

That early enthusiasm didn't last. The stock fell more than 6% last Thursday and another 21% on Monday, reducing the value of the former president's stake to $3.8 billion.

That reduced sum could still come in handy for Trump, as he battles legal challenges and must post a bond of $175 million this week while appealing a civil fraud judgment in New York.

Trump can't sell his stock any time soon, though. Monday's filing confirmed that he and other insiders are barred from selling their shares for six months.
