Every one of Silversea's cabins has an ocean view, and they're all designated as suites with a high space-to-guest ratio. For guests' needs throughout the cruise, butler service is available in every room.

All-inclusive sailings

Many cruise lines charge their passengers a base fare for the trip, allowing them to choose various add-ons — such as beverages, specialty restaurants, internet access and port excursions — for an additional cost.

Silversea does away with this. It advertises an all-inclusive cruise package, which includes everything from shore excursions and alcoholic drinks to butler service and gratuities.

Primary U.S. ports

Silversea ships span the globe, but travelers that don't want to venture too far from home will find many cruises departing from Fort Lauderdale and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Trips also depart from New York City for destinations in Canada.

Those wishing to depart from the West Coast can set sail from San Francisco or Los Angeles. Ships from these ports travel to the Caribbean, Alaska, Canada and other far-flung destinations.

Where does Silversea sail?

Silversea's destination map is extensive, with over 900 ports on all seven continents. Sailings are at least six days long, but trips can last several weeks to a month or more.

For those with the time and the money, Silversea offers World Cruises that travel from continent to continent in a global adventure that can take as many as 140 days.

How much does a Silversea cruise cost?

Silversea sailings are no discount venture, but the all-inclusive nature of each cruise adds value.

Meals, drinks, entertainment and onboard special events are all part of the price. The rates vary based on demand, destination and time of year.

There are two types of prices: "door-to-door," which includes airport transfers and airfare, or "port-to-port," which is the cruise fare without any transportation to or from the port.

Rates can vary from as low as $2,800 for a seven-day trip from Colombia to Florida to $94,700 for a 125-day expedition cruise from Chile to Norway.

Silversea also offers special fares for single travelers on select excursions, which provides a discount instead of paying the full cost of a double-occupancy cabin.

What is the best Silversea ship?

There are 13 ships in the Silversea fleet — with more scheduled for delivery in the coming years — ranging in size from 51 to 364 cabins. The best ship, however, will depend on the type of sailing you want.

The smallest ships are typically expedition ships that sail itineraries like the Galapagos or Antarctica. For example, the 100-passenger Silver Origin was Silversea's first purpose-built destination ship, built explicitly for cruising in the Galapagos. It is also the most environmentally-friendly ship built by Silversea.

Another small ship is the Silver Explorer, with a capacity for 144 guests and a strengthened hull to sail in Antarctica and the Arctic safely.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have larger ships such as Silver Spirit, which was renovated in 2018. With space for 608 passengers, it spends much of its time sailing around Europe, the Middle East and the Indian Ocean.

Ships like Silver Spirit look more like cruise ships, with amenities that include larger pools, lounges and plentiful dining options. Expedition ships are smaller by nature and therefore have fewer onboard facilities.

The best Silversea ship depends on the type of traveler you are, the destinations you want to visit, and the amenities you desire.

What is the newest Silversea ship?

Silver Nova is Silversea's newest ship, with plans to set sail later this summer. It will also be the largest ship in the Silversea fleet, with space for 728 passengers. Coming in 2024 is a second ship of the same size, the Silver Ray.

These ships feature a new asymmetrical design that gives their interiors a more spacious feel. Additionally, they'll have the largest pools in the Silversea fleet, and every suite will have a balcony.

What's included in a Silversea cruise

As mentioned above, Silversea advertises its cruises as all-inclusive, and compared to many cruise lines , this is pretty accurate. Here's what's included with all Silversea cruises:

Unlike other cruise loyalty programs, Silversea's program — the Venetian Society — does not award points. It doesn't have elite status tiers, either. Instead, members earn "days" based on the length of each sailing. The more days they accrue, the more benefits they can receive.

Here's what Venetian Society members can expect to receive based on the number of days accrued:

The best part about the Venetian Society is that the benefits are cumulative. It's not similar to a points program where once you redeem points, your balance gets lower until you earn more. With Venetian Society, you can take advantage of that perk once you hit the next milestone while enjoying previous bonuses.

For example, once you hit 350 days, you are eligible for a complimentary seven-day voyage. But, you can also take 10% off any door-to-door cruises — a perk you receive after reaching 250 days — you book after that.

Yes. Like most of its onboard amenities, Silversea cruises include basic Wi-Fi free of charge. Those in upper suites will receive free premium Wi-Fi speeds, and other guests can pay for a faster speed package. The prices vary by sailing and ship.

You’ll see and do more in one sailing than you can imagine, even knowing this itinerary begins in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and ends in Lisbon, Portugal. Spending months away from home requires forethought and planning. After all, can you fill a prescription in the South Pacific or find your favorite moisturizer in Egypt? And how do you pack?

Here you’ll find detailed answers and information about preparing for this unique journey. From choosing the right cell phone plan to wondering how chefs keep the cuisine fresh, day after day, this guide to World Cruise 2026 will put most of your concerns to rest – and get you excited about the extensive laundry list of unusual destinations and special events. And yes, by the way, laundry is included.

World Cruise 2026: The Curious and the Sea

Each year, Silversea’s epic world cruise carries a theme that shapes the journey. For 2026, “The Curious and the Sea” label refers to the history-making expeditions of explorers as they sought to map uncharted territory and understand other cultures. The cruise culminates, fittingly, in Portugal, the homeland of many famous explorers, including Vasco da Gama and Ferdinand Magellan.

Destinations: The Curious and the Sea

The 2026 World Cruise will visit more than six dozen destinations, including 26 that are probably new to Silversea’s Venetian Society loyalty members. These destinations are as varied as Bari, Italy, and Nouméa, New Caledonia. The ports of call cover 37 countries and six continents, from Australia and India to the Polynesian islands of Tonga and Vanuatu. Take a loot at the segment-by-segment maps for World Cruise 2026.

Silversea’s 2026 world cruise departs Jan. 6 from Fort Lauderdale and culminates on May 27 in Lisbon. The voyage is divided into nine segments that total 140 days, including 62 days at sea.

This world cruise will be aboard Silversea’s Silver Dawn, which debuted in 2022. The 596-passenger ship boasts a Roman baths-inspired spa and wellness area; the renowned S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) culinary program; a creative entertainment offering; and the line’s hallmark touches, from butler service to top-shelf cocktails and caviar.

Bookings for the 2026 world cruise with Silversea open to Venetian Society members on June 14, 2023, and to the public on June 22. Despite the 2.5-year lead time, these world cruises book up far in advance. Inclusions when you book this cruise include business class airfare and private transfers, $1,000 in onboard credit per guest and one complimentary Otium spa treatment each.

Not included: meals at specialty restaurants such as La Dame or Kaiseki ; personal training sessions; spa treatments beyond the one included; some premium shore excursions; purchases in the boutique or gambling in the casino.

Pre-cruise logistics

Passports and visas

Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond the date of the last port you visit (many countries require at least six months validity for admission). You’ll be in good shape if your passport is valid at least through the end of 2026. World travelers also understand that obtaining visas can be an obstacle course, but luckily, Silversea includes a visa package with the 2026 World Cruise that can help reduce red tape.

Vaccinations and precautions

For a trip of this breadth, you will want to visit a travel clinic to check on medications you may need or vaccinations that are required.  Before that, check with your primary care physician to be sure that your routine vaccinations are up to date, including tetanus. The rabies vaccine is optional, but not uncommon for world travel. To embark on a Silversea vessel, all passengers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least two weeks before departure; boosters are recommended.  

Health care and insurance

When it comes to standard health insurance, travel insurance, medical evacuation clauses and filling your prescriptions for four months away, you must have this sorted out well before embarkation.

If you don’t have a travel insurance plan that covers medical evacuation, buy one. This kind of policy is designed for emergencies in far-flung places (some of the ones you will be visiting) and should include being air-lifted to the closest hospital on the mainland. Silversea has a doctor on board, but the cruise line does not cover the cost of medical emergencies or prescription refills, which can be difficult to find in some countries.

Have a conversation with your doctor about what you need to stay healthy and functioning for one-third of the year at sea. This includes obtaining months’ worth of prescription medications, and over-the-counter remedies for common ailments such as heartburn, nausea or upset stomach. Some physicians will prescribe a broad-spectrum antibiotic that could be helpful to have on hand

Money matters

You can order foreign currency from your bank, but given that 37 countries are involved, your best bet is to take some nations-specific cash with you. Trying to keep track of dozens of different monetary units, some you might only need for a day, can be a hassle.

Make sure you have a couple of credit cards that do not charge foreign transaction fees and ideally reward travel purchases. A debit card attached to your bank account is also helpful for withdrawing local currency from an ATM. 

In both cases, alert your credit card provider and your bank that you will be traveling to various countries for several months. That should help prevent your account from being frozen because of what the institution may deem “suspicious activity.” Keep these cards close at hand and your pin numbers private. (Note that some banking institutions require a four-digit card number.) If you suspect that you have misplaced a card or are a victim or fraud, call to freeze your own account right away.

Dedicate some time before this big trip to making sure your technology – mobile phones, tablets and any other electronic devices – are in working order and that you have a phone and data plan that make sense for you.

For such an extended trip, you’ll want to consider buying a travel-specific SIM card and/or a mobile hotspot that gives you better access to high-speed Wi-Fi. Silversea world cruisers have unlimited premium Wi-Fi for up to two devices per person.

With a strong enough Wi-Fi signal, VOIP — Voice Over Internet Protocol or a voice call over a Wi-Fi signal like your ship’s — is possible. Common services that use VOIP include WhatsApp (app required) and FaceTime if you have an Apple product. T-Mobile has a great built-in international plan with its standard service and some easy upgrades.  Some destinations will be just too far-flung to expect reliable cell or WiFi signal.

Securing your home

Maybe you live in a gated or residential community, or someone will still be at the house to keep everything running, but chances are you might be leaving your home empty during your 140-day cruise. This requires a few logistical measures on your behalf before departing.

Consider putting a hold on your mail while you’re gone. If not, sign up for the U.S. Post Office’s Informed Delivery service that shows what is being delivered each day.  

Do your plants need watering? Will your sidewalk need shoveling if it snows? Make sure you hire someone — or have incredible friends — to be on call for any maintenance or emergencies (burst pipe) while you are halfway across the world.

Pets are not allowed onboard, so start researching well-rated kennels that will board your dog or cat long term. Or you can strike a deal with a dependable friend or family member with whom the pet might be more comfortable. Birds or reptiles might be harder to place in a formal facility.

Smart home security systems, including the Ring camera and doorbell, are now almost ubiquitous. These services function off an app and require WiFi but might be able to provide some peace of mind while you are so far from your front door. In any case, a trustworthy human to occasionally check on your property and valuables may be the most reliable choice in the end.

Packing for a World Cruise

How much can I bring on board?

A Silver Shore baggage valet will assist with two bags of up to 50 pounds each, per guest, or 100 pounds of stuff per person for your 20-week expedition. That limit does not include carry-on luggage such as a purse, backpack or duffel. Sometimes less is more, especially if you’re looking to purchase a ton of souvenirs during your travels. Be reasonable!

How do you pack for a world cruise?

First things first: Don’t try to pack for all 140 days. You’re going to want to stick to versatile clothing items (pants you might can dress up or down, or a sundress that is easily gussied up) as well as tried-and-true staples in your wardrobe. Scan destinations for average weather during the time you’ll be there, and pack for comfort. Even if Egypt looks toasty, the ship is air-conditioned, so you’ll need a light sweater, a jacket and a windbreaker at various points during the trip. Layers are better than bulk. Pack plenty of socks and underwear.

It’s not the time to buy brand-new shoes and see if they work out onboard the ship. If you decide to stock up on some new gear before embarking, do so at least a few weeks in advance. This gives you time to break in any new footwear.

There will be some formal evenings, especially Silversea’s marquee world cruise events, but practicality is the running theme here. If you’re dining among ruins at night, leave the stiletto heels in your suite (or at home). Certain religious or cultural dress codes may require women to cover their heads, shoulders or knees; out of respect, always adhere to any local dress codes.

Reversible swimsuits; classic dresses or dress shirts in neutrals; nice leggings that can pull double duty are ways to game the packing system. Dressing up the mighty black dress or well-tailored suit jacket, by buying scarves or pocket squares, pashminas or ties in ports along the way is fun. And these double as mementos.

Despite Silversea’s lenience about how much you pack, there are some restrictions. For example, no full-face snorkel masks from home. Be sure to read through the fine print before you take something prohibited that could have made space for something else.

How does laundry work?

Laundry service is included in your world cruise fare. There are self-service launderettes onboard if you miss the experience of doing your own. These services are arranged through your butler.

The on-board experience

Does my cabin choice matter.

All rooms onboard Silver Dawn are suites, starting at 335 square feet with a large picture window for ocean views called a Vista Suite. Most suites feature a full, private balcony and luxurious amenities. Expect a pillow menu, plush robe, stocked mini bar, luxury bath products and Champagne upon arrival, no matter which suite you are booked in.

Plus premium offerings on Silver Dawn include Otium spa-inspired experiences , facilitated by your butler, including a balcony hot chocolate service; premium sunbathing experience; or an indulgent drawn bath.  

A ship suite may be smaller than a full house or condo, but the entire ship is your oyster. You’ll find ample public spaces where you can relax and unwind. After all, you will be spending so much time on shore tours that you will probably tired from your explorations and ready to climb into bed.

Will I be with the same passengers all the time?

Some cruisers will embark along with you in Fort Lauderdale and leave as cruising family four months later in Lisbon. Some guests, however, book world cruise segments or partial world cruises. This means that at eight points along the way, other guests may join the voyage or leave it. Think of it as a change of scenery and the possibility of dinner companions throughout your lengthy holiday.

Will food choices begin to repeat?

If you’re wondering whether salmon will be on the menu more than once during this months-long sailing, yes, it will. But Silversea and its food and beverage teams work tirelessly to plan the menus for these world cruises so there is as little repetition as possible across venues and throughout the days and weeks.

The entire crew will get to know you, as well as your preferences (and most importantly, dietary restrictions) from Day 1. Likewise, after dining at each venue multiple times (and there are eight to choose from, not including room service plus the S.A.L.T. program), you will get to know the best spot for that steak, sushi or salad, depending on what you’re craving.

What role will S.A.L.T. play in World Cruise 2026?

Silversea’s distinct Sea and Land Taste program will thrive on the 2026 World Cruise . The S.A.L.T. Kitchen will create 80 distinct menus based on places visited. A rotating lineup of visiting chefs, regional food experts and authors will come aboard to teach a variety of S.A.L.T. Lab classes and also will take up residencies, offering intermittent lectures.

Besides hands-on culinary experiences (onboard and ashore) as well as the distinct itinerary-inspired epicurean menus, the S.A.L.T. Bar transforms local flavors into liquid form. With more local wines offered than ever before, as well as beers and exclusive spirits, guests can sip on regional beverages as well as attend tastings hosted by sommeliers and mixologists. About 70 custom and regionally inspired cocktails will be featured on the 2026 World Cruise.

How can I stay in shape onboard?

Endless weeks of rich cuisine can take their toll. You are likely to stay active just from exploring the many ports you’re visiting, but if you would like to take a more organized approach to your routine, Silver Dawn’s fitness center comes complete with free weights, machines and cardio equipment. How are holidays and events celebrated?

The 2026 World Cruise kicks off after the New Year, but no matter what Hallmark holidays or religious observances you recognize from January to May, there will be a way to mark them onboard. From Valentine’s Day to Passover, your crew is dedicated to making each memory and occasion special. This includes special food and drink. Nondenominational services are typically held onboard on Sundays. Catholic, Protestant or Jewish clergy will be brought onboard when possible for select holidays.

Celebrating a birthday, anniversary or another milestone onboard? Notify Silversea (or allow your travel advisor to do so) at least a month before departure to arrange the proper festivities.

How will I keep in touch?

Nearly everyone travels with mobile devices so you need not rely on the costly satellite phone service onboard the ship, unless for some reason it’s the only option. Be sure to bring information on your phone plan, including contacts for troubleshooting. Staff is available once you’re onboard to walk you through connecting your phone, laptop or tablet to the free shipboard WiFi.

As for organizing calls with friends and family, leave them with a printout of your scheduled itinerary, so they can have an idea of where you are and when. Time zones will change many times throughout your journey, and it will be hard to keep track.

On an iPhone, you can add the destinations and time zones where your friends and family live by going to Clock > World Clock. This is a convenient shortcut when you’re guessing whether your sister-in-law is awake to chat.

The Wi-Fi onboard should be solid, but it will change depending on your location and how many people are accessing it at the same time. It should be a strong enough signal to browse the internet, send a text or an email, but not always reliable for a video call. Manage expectations.

What happens in case of emergency?

Things happen. A storm could brew, a political event could take place that might prevent you from entering a country or from Silversea deeming it safe. The encouraging thing about a cruise ship is that it moves and is generally flexible about schedule changes (as should you).

Many storms can be avoided; ports can be replaced or skipped if there is a threat. Someone could get sick onboard and be sent home. Silversea is very equipped to handle these emergencies — especially on a lengthy World Cruise.

Are shore excursions included?

One shore excursion per port, per day is included for each guest onboard a Silversea world cruise. Shore excursions range from active hikes or snorkel and dive trips to guided walking tours and local workshops. While your plans — or whims — may certainly change, it’s a good idea to browse through these detailed offerings prior to boarding to select the tours you are most passionate about joining and secure a spot.

Of course, you can never predict how you might feel on any given day, but timing some relaxation and recovery between all your active exploits is its own preventative maintenance. This is vacation, after all.

Must I get off at every port?

Deal alert: Book these cruises now and get $1,000 in onboard credit

Silversea Cruises is out with a new promotion that will get you $1,000 in onboard credit when booking a new sailing.

The Suite Upgrades offer, as the luxury line calls it, can also give you a two-category cabin upgrade on select voyages for certain cabin categories.

All cabins on Silversea ships are suites, hence the name of the promotion.

The offer applies to more than 100 voyages departing this month through May 31, 2024. To qualify for the offer, bookings must be made by May 31.

Silversea offers two tiers of pricing: port-to-port fares and more expensive door-to-door fares, the latter of which are the only ones that are part of this promotion.

Port-to-port fares include accommodations on a ship, butler service, onboard meals, drinks, onboard gratuities, unlimited Wi-Fi, shore excursions and a complimentary city center shuttle service when applicable.

Door-to-door fares cover all the above, plus private executive transfers from home, international flights to reach the ship and the availability of business-class upgrades at a reduced rate. In-country air and hotels also are included in door-to-door fares when required by the itinerary.

In short, door-to-door fares include just about all the arrangements you'll need for travel from the moment you leave for your cruise until the moment you return home.

Silversea's door-to-door fares start around $3,500 per person for an entry-level suite on a seven-night Caribbean cruise. They can be much higher for more exotic and longer itineraries, and for stays in higher-level suites.

The fine print of the offer

The $1,000 credit available with the Suite Upgrades promotion is per suite, not per person. Specifically, you'll receive a $500 per person credit that applies to a maximum of two people per room.

The credit can be used for a wide range of onboard amenities, including spa treatments, extra-charge dining experiences and premium wines and spirits that aren't included in the fare. It also can be applied to the cost of optional extra-charge shore excursions.

As of Thursday, 130 sailings were bookable under the promotion on Silversea's website, with departures available to a wide range of destinations.

The voyages that were available to book as part of the promotion included:

• A 10-night, round-trip sailing from Tokyo on Silver Whisper departing Sept. 21. The voyage brings calls at Osaka, Shimonoseki, Kanazawa, Akita and Hakodate in Japan, as well as Busan, South Korea.
• A 10-night sailing from Fort Lauderdale to Barbados on Silver Dawn departing Dec. 11. The voyage brings calls at Puerto Rico, St. Maarten (the Dutch side of the island of St. Martin), Antigua, Dominica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Martinique and Grenada.
• A seven-night voyage from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Seward, Alaska, on Silver Nova departing May 9, 2024. The sailing brings calls at Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and Yakutat in Alaska, as well as a visit to the state's Hubbard Glacier.
• A 14-night, round-trip sailing out of Reykjavik on Silver Endeavor departing May 18, 2024. The voyage brings stops around Iceland, the Faroe Islands and several islands off the coast of Scotland.

Another sailing available to book as part of the promotion is a seven-night Galapagos Islands voyage kicking off on Jan. 6, 2024. The trip will take place on the line's new Silver Origin.

We review the cheapest Silversea Cruises across Europe, Asia, North & South America, Africa, Alaska, and beyond, along with how and when to book to take advantage of cheap cruises with this luxury cruise brand.

Silversea Cruises has a fleet of small but exceptional boutique cruise ships, but these cruises aren’t cheap. They claim that their offering is six-star, and their cruise ships are certainly ultra-luxurious. Luxury ships include Silver Cloud, Silver Dawn, Silver Discoverer, Silver Explorer, Silver Galapagos, Silver Moon, Silver Muse, Silver Origin, Silver Shadow, Silver Spirit, Silver Whisper, and Silver Wind.

Silversea Cruises consistently wins cruise liner awards as the best luxury cruise line in various categories, including the Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards, which they have won for 10 years in a row. They also get a 5-star Berlitz rating. Why are they so good? Spacious cabins, fine dining, and a high level of staff-to-guest ratios help. There is almost one crew member for each guest!

Their smaller ships mean that Silversea Cruises can access smaller, more unique ports, such as Portofino on the Italian coast. All-suite accommodation means that there are no bad rooms. Here is our pick of the cheapest Silversea Cruises in the world. It is not a definitive list, as rates change all the time, and new Silversea Cruises are popping up everywhere, but I hope my choices will inspire you to cruise away. These Silversea Cruises can be affordable. You just need to know how to play the game!

Please note: With COVID-19, many cruises have been canceled or amended datewise, so this article is based on what would usually be available to book rather than the cruises that are available right now.

1. Singapore to Bali

This tends to be the cheapest Silversea cruise and can offer very low last-minute prices, with cruises starting at around £1,420 GBP per person.

2. The Middle East to India from Dubai

Another one of Silversea’s cheapest cruises is to India from Dubai and usually departs from Dubai on Silver Spirit. Prices start at around £3,500 GBP per person for 11 nights.

3. Caribbean & Central America

One of the cheapest cruises that Silversea offers is in the Caribbean & Central America region and departs from San Juan on Silver Wind. In fact, a number of the cruises around the Caribbean on Silversea look to be comparatively cheap. Departures in December usually start at around £3,700 GBP per person for 11 nights. Prices around the Caribbean will be less in US dollars as UK prices include transatlantic flights.

4. From Singapore to Mumbai

Back to the Silver Spirit and a continuation of the same cruise mentioned above, is another of the cheapest cruises that Silversea offers from Singapore to Mumbai, which usually departs mid-November. Prices start at around £5,500 GBP per person for 20 nights.

5. Middle East to Europe from Dubai

You can also travel on the Silver Spirit ship on its return journey from Dubai to Europe, usually in the spring. You can pick up a cruise for around 18 nights for around £5,000 GBP, including flights out from the UK.

6. Copenhagen to Stockholm

You can board the Silversea Silver Spirit with prices from around £3,500 GBP for a European adventure, too. Start in Copenhagen, stop in Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, which lies just 53 miles (85 km) from Helsinki across the Gulf of Finland, midway between St. Petersburg and Stockholm.

7. Venice to Venice

Probably my favorite cruise itinerary is Venice to Venice. Enjoy the watery majesty of Venice, the turquoise beauty of the Corfu, the Elaphite archipelago of Dubrovnik, and the colorful mosaics of Ravenna. Enjoy breathtaking views, James Bond-style speedboat adventures, majestic architecture, and delectable local cuisine… the only effort you’ll have to make is deciding how much or how little you want to do. The price? Around £6,000 GBP per person.

8. Barcelona To Venice Cruise & Orient Express

How about a 15-day cruise & rail on Silver Shadow by Silversea from around £8,000 GBP pp inclusive of flights? You would depart in spring from Barcelona to Venice and then travel the coasts of Spain and Italy for increasingly glamorous ports. An out-of-season stop in St. Tropez. Rome needs no introduction, but it is an overnight in the liquid grandeur of the Serenissima. am To get home, take the Belmond Venice Simplon Orient Express back to London. Enjoy a delicious breakfast in your cabin this morning before a brief stop at Paris’ Gare du Nord sees you speed towards Calais to cross the channel as you enjoy brunch. Then, back in the UK, enjoy an afternoon tea on the Belmond British Pullman with a glass of English sparkling wine before you arrive in London, Victoria.

9. Monte Carlo To Venice

Perhaps the most glamorous Silversea cruise of all, and not an easy one to get cheap, is the journey for those who truly appreciate the finer things in life. Cruise from Monte Carlo (we have reviewed the best luxury hotels in Monaco ), around Italy to Venice.

With chic coastal towns such as Portofino and Sorrento on the agenda, why not treat yourself to a private tour, a gastronomic meal, or a trip to Calvi. Dubrovnik continues the glamourous theme but with an added element of Slavic beauty. End your journey in the sheer loveliness of exquisite Venice. The price will be around £6,000 GBP per person.

10. Antarctica Expedition from Ushuaia to Cape Town

If you don’t mind the cold and have a generous wallet, how about Antarctica Expedition from Ushuaia to Cape Town on Silver Cloud. The total all-inclusive price for this cruise starts at around £20,900 GBP.

Better to book directly with Silversea or via agent?

I'm planning to book the Aug 25 Venice to Athens cruise on the Spirit. This will be only my third time cruising (so many questions!), and in the past I booked directly with the cruise line. It seems, though, that agencies sometimes offer better deals than Silversea (larger onboard credit, e.g.). Not sure if this is to be trusted, or if the deals really are better with an agency. If so, I've heard there are specific agencies/consortiums that work with Silversea a lot, and can offer the best deals, but don't know how to find them. Spaces are running out on this cruise (Silversea already has said there are no port-side cabins on deck 6, for example), so I know I need to do something soon. Any help would be much appreciated!

p.s. I would also love to hear about any particular Veranda 4 category cabins that are particularly good (or bad) on deck 6. My first cruise on HAL was in a loud, squeaky cabin and I'm not eager to repeat that experience (the second, on Seabourn, was perfect).

Outstanding TA's belong to one of the major travel consortium's (virtuoso, signature, vacation.com) and generally provide a generous SBC ($250-$750 depending on the Silversea cruise booked. Moreover, most likely you will get cash back (discount from this TA's from 5-10%.

We have sailed on the Spirit near a 100 days since the maiden crossing and for a Veranda 4, you can't go wrong with any suite from 644-657. We like V4's closest to

mid ship (e.g. 657,656). Would not book suites 638-645 since they are directly above the 5th deck/bar-- dance floor and you will hear evening dance music in your suite.

So I am also booked for the same cruise and a relative newbie since my one and only cruise on Silversea is from 2008. I am on Deck 6 as well in a triple cabin.

The only warning I saw was to avoid cabin 640-648 over the bar area. This may no longer be relevant as insulation was added shortly after it was built.

Also, I learned it is inappropriate to ask about agents on this board.

That makes it easier to just do it yourself via the Internet and/or phones. We have worked with ours since 2006 and she is so important because of her vast travel experiences around the world, being honest, blunt and candid for options being considered, etc. In 2014 for our Australia-NZ adventure, she had been there 25+ times and had many keen insights. Personally, I like to do lots of reading and research myself. I do not do everything that she suggests, but it is all part of the "total information picture" in planning and preparing. That is the best of all world . . . an excellent agent AND an involved, interested customer. In most cases, if you book it yourself and/or through a cruise line staffer, you are going to be paying the same amount for the cruise. Why not, if possible to have a smart and savvy travel agent, enjoy those extra benefits and gain so much more insights about where you are visiting, designation options, etc. Finally, when or if you have a "problem" and challenge during the pre-cruise period, it is good to have a strong advocate to push and argue on your behalf. Of course, getting an excellent travel agent is not always that easy. There are some secrets that I can suggest, later, if it is of interest.

Yes, some travel agents will give back more or a lesser amount as cabin credit. Maybe that is significant. Maybe not as much. For us, especially in going to more unique areas of the world, the good agent's super skills and tips there make a very important, valuable difference.

Thanks for the very helpful replies everyone. In particular, I appreciate all the good advice and tips (I did not know that providing the names of specific TAs is a no-no, for example). I have to admit, however, that I am really at a loss about who to pick after seeing the overwhelming number of agents out there. I started looking at the agencies that are members of the largest, most reputable and powerful travel consortiums, and there are hundreds (and hundreds). Impossible to know where to begin and the work week approaches!

Anyway, Silversea (no agent) is offering business air for $499 each leg, which seems like an impossibly good deal. I haven't seen the itinerary for the flights, but heard that the carriers are Delta, KLM, and Lufthansa. If anyone has ever taken this deal, I'd be curious to find out how it worked out. Perhaps the itineraries are difficult (departing from the West Coast on the red eye, then flying all day across the Atlantic and arriving at 6 or 7 pm in Europe, facing a sleepless night-?).

DEFINITELY book your cruises with a travel agent! Yes, you may receive various credits and goodies, but their professional value goes way beyond that. Matching you with the ideal cruise line or stateroom category.. handling specialized pre-cruise requests.. arranging custom tours or car service.. or as Terry mentioned, acting as your tireless advocate if something goes wrong. Most passengers sail along without a problem, and many of us are perfectly capable of selecting our own itineraries and suites, but an individual passenger has little recourse if something goes truly wrong -- I had this happen once (not on Silversea) and our agent worked a miracle.

To locate the agent that's right for you, you can certainly ask around, but also check out the cruise line websites, which often supply lists of agencies they do a lot of work with. These days, with email and overnight delivery, you don't have to limit yourself to a local agency.

I suggest calling several agents and ask to make an appointment to discuss your needs. (And it's best to do this by phone, not email, so you can really gauge their interest and listen to each other.) Be prepared to discuss your budget.. past travels, cruises, hotels.. what you liked.. what you didn't like.. what you're looking for in ambience, food, activities, comfort, whatever is important to you. The agent will probably want a little time to pull some ideas together. Then see who you felt most comfortable talking to, and who really "gets" what you're looking for.

Appreciate these excellent points and suggestions from the smart NYC poster. Agree that talking/sharing by phone can be a good way to interview/test and see how well a potential travel agents listens and understands your personal interests, needs. For taylorcl, don't be distracted by a Silversea representative on their payroll offering some airfare bargains, etc. In most all cases, those "sales incentives" are detailed on their website and apply to all potential customers, whether you are going through the SS staff or using your own travel agent.

Here are a few of my tips, suggestions, successes:

1. I started out looking at a long list of a couple hundred top-rated travel agents from a National Geographic publication. I looked for a couple of people with more international experiences and focus, including for doing Australia and New Zealand. I reached out and got a good response from one of the persons contacted. We talked more, she was very helpful, was very accessible and responsive, etc., etc.

2. Don't assume that the TA has to live in your town or immediately nearby. Phones work well to give quick connections. E-mail can keep communications going, even if the TA or you are traveling internationally, etc.

3. It's your key choice as to whether you just want an "order-taker" who has not traveled much, nor experienced personally many of these key locations in the world. OR , if you desire "value-added" by someone who can give you honest, detailed, on-location background insights and proper warnings on what to seek or avoid.

4. It is possible to make an initial booking with a SS agent on the ship or by phone. BUT, then you have about a month or two to have that preliminary reservation moved to be handled by YOUR agent.

5. You're the customer!! Make clear what you want and need. They cannot read your mind. Articulate upfront what you seek, can afford, rate highest, etc.

It's a shame the boards don't allow info to be passed on TA. I'm not against using one, but the two examples above is why I'd always book direct. (Until I'm confident I've found a TA that will be acting on my behalf!)

I haven't had much luck in finding a TA willing to give me any Ship Board Credit or discount at all. The last TA I used promised a small rebate and never came through. So, now I book direct with the cruise line, and usually get some SBC. So, I'm perplexed by what I'm reading on this thread. Last year, I phoned around again to various TA's in my area, and nobody was willing to give me more than $50 in credit or rebate (even though I had done all the work already, and all they needed to do was take over the booking).

An advantage of booking direct is that you can phone or email your cruise consultant to ask questions. It's more efficient than having to track down your TA, telling them your questions, and waiting for them to get back to you after they contact the cruise line. Why should I bother going through this, if the TA isn't even giving me any incentive for dealing with them.

We are not permitted to share our TA's on this forum but trust me there are TA's out there who give rebates and other perks. I usually do all the research anyway and then have my TA book my cruise.

Yes, all TA's are not created equal. Same is true of any profession.

Ask people you know for a recommendation.

Interview them. Actually talk with three or four of them and ask questions.

Ideally find someone familiar with the product and someone you feel comfortable working with.

Yes TA's can provide amenities that the cruise line won't provide. That's a big positive.

But a good TA can save you money by making sure you avoid mistakes.

And a good TA can be your advocate to not only cutting through red tape (if they understand the cruise line such in this case as Silversea) but should something go wrong they can push for a resolution that you might not be able to get if you are just dealing with them yourselves.

One suggestion. During the cruise ask around who your fellow passengers would recommend. It took us two cruises to find a good TA this way.

I'm in the same boat (pun not intended) as we are about to book on the Muse for May. I would really rather slit my wrists and drink my own blood than use a TA. We have never had a good experience with one and simply don't "need" one. We are both proficient with a computer and at doing trip research, we have sources we trust for opinions and information and we can and have done everything from buy luxury vehicles to rent luxury prooerties over the Internet. And I would never in a million years think of booking any component of our many land vacations with a TA. We can do it all ourselves with such ease. BUT the cruiselines are so tied to travel agents that it seems impossible to get as good of a deal booking direct as you can with just about any old TA. My question is, the cash back the TA is offering is probably coming from their profit of commission in booking the cruise for me. So if I book directly, SS should be able to give me a better deal since we would be cutting out the middle man. Better deal for me and more profit for SS. And then if I have a question or issue arrise, I can deal directly with the service provider, the cruise line, without having to get a game of telephone going with the middle man in the way. The gentleman I spoke with at SS told me he would give me OBC, but I didn't ask how much. I came here to find out what others have experienced. Has anyone booked directly and gotten great OBC or even a lower cruise fare?

Using a good TA pays dividends besides rebates (10%+, SBC) they go to bat (representing scale to SS) for you when there is a problem on board. When we had a problem with a Silversea Hotel Direct on a cruise last year, our TA made some phone calls and within hours this HD called my wife to apologize. Silversea later (after our TA's work post cruise) gave us a large future cruise credit for the poor on board experience. A good TA not only provides service before the cruise, the TA continues to provide service during your cruise, and service post cruise.

When the booking rules were different (3+ yrs ago) we first booked direct then had SS transfer to our TA on record, why? Absolutely, no way Silversea can match the rebate, SBC and service we get with our TA.

Technically they don't sell it cheaper. What they do, or at least can do, is rebate a portion of their commission back to you. Using simple math let's say the published cruise fare is $10,000 after non-commissionalbe fees and taxes are taken out and the commission is 12%. The agency/agent would get $1,200 and out of that $1,200 they might give a $1,000 cash rebate or on board credit or some combination of cash and on board credit. The cruise line still gets their $8,800 no matter what the agency/agent does with the commission. Of course the best world for the cruise line is for a passenger to book directly with them and pay them the $10,000. Sure they pay their inhouse cruise consultants but no where close to what they pay an external TA in commission.

Needless to say we deal with an agency/agent that gives us a 10-12% cash discount and often even throws in an on board credit from time to time. We had used an inhouse Silversea cruise consultant for a couple of our first cruises and she was super but couldn't offer discounts or rebates. Still would highly recommend her but for us getting the rebate is a "business" decision and not personal.

Really depends on the level of service. I can't speak for others but when we contact our TA we've done all our research. We've picked our specific cruise and know what cabin category and deck we want. We often even provide cabin numbers in order of preference. We have our own flights, pre and post cruise hotels, and transfers booked or at least planned depending on how far out we're booking. We're planners by nature and profession and right now we'd have it no other way. So yes, if a TA is willing to discount the cruise and we're asking for virtually no other support or assistance than the booking then I see no issue using them.

That's really a personal decision. Most of us deal with Silversea at great distance so having a true personal friend with the cruise line is not the norm. As for potential issues that might arise......that's hard to judge and put value on. We've never had an issue or problem arise that I can think of in 22 years of cruising, at least not one that was a major issue that wasn't easily addressed but we all have our own set of concerns and risk aversion. Enjoy your first Silversea cruise! 👍 😀

This vacation stinks.

Nearly 30 people aboard a luxury cruise liner known for its phenomenal cuisine have fallen ill thanks to a gastrointestinal outbreak that swept through the ship.

At least 28 of the Silver Nova ship’s 633 guests and one of its crew members reported feeling sick during their 16-day voyage from Peru, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  said Monday.

The group all reported one main symptom: diarrhea.

The cause of the outbreak — which has impacted roughly 5% of the ship’s passenger population — is still unknown, but the CDC notes that norovirus outbreaks are primarily caused by eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water.

The Silver Nova is Silversea Cruises’ newest liner and among its most luxurious.

Introduced in 2023, the Silver Nova boasts butler service for every suite, one crew member for every 1.3 guests and “outstanding gastronomy” — it even welcomed “Top Chef’s” Nina Compton to its ranks at the end of last year.

The ship includes multiple kitchens, grills and even an interactive space where guests can cook with Compton.

To quell the spread of the stomach bug, Silversea Cruises reportedly quarantined its impacted passengers and crew member and “increased cleaning and disinfection procedures,” the CDC said.

“The health and safety of our guests, crew, and the communities we visit are our top priority,” a spokesperson for Silversea Cruises told The Post in a statement.

“To maintain an environment that supports the highest levels of health and safety onboard our ships, we implement rigorous cleaning procedures, many of which far exceed public health guidelines.”

The outbreak was reported one day before the “Easter” themed cruise was scheduled to end.

The 11-deck cruise ship started its journey in Callao-Lima, Peru, on March 31 and is set to end on April 16.

Prices for the 16-day excursion started at $11,700 for a double occupancy room, according to CruiseMapper.

The Silversea Cruises outbreak marks the fourth this year — including one that saw 104 become infected aboard a Holland America Line ship and more than 130 people on Cunard Cruise Line’s Queen Victoria struck down by a bout of diarrhea and vomiting in February .

Norovirus was the cause of the three preceding outbreaks.

In 2023, the CDC logged a jaw-dropping 14 cruise ship outbreaks.

Travel | Alaska is ready for another record-breaking cruise season

Alaska is home to more than 30,000 grizzlies, but the state’s cruise industry is experiencing anything but a bear market as momentum of last year’s record-breaking season is expected to continue in 2024.

The most-visited Alaskan port, Juneau set a new mark a year ago with 1.65 million passengers descending on the capital city during cruise season, which generally runs from April to late October. That figure from the Juneau Chamber of Commerce is a Denali-sized jump of 30 percent compared to pre-pandemic 2019.

Coinciding with Alaska’s 65th anniversary of statehood, the upcoming cruise season appears to be just as robust, with 19 cruise lines sending 43 ships to the Last Frontier. Kicking things off for the second straight year is the 4,008-passenger Norwegian Bliss, which docked in rustic Skagway last week. With four mainstream-category ships homeported in either Seattle or Vancouver, Norwegian Cruise Line  has nearly 100 more after that.

Two competing companies have staked out even larger claims in this modern-day, maritime Alaskan gold rush. Holland America Line is sending seven premium-class ships for 141 total cruises. And at the top of the totem pole is Princess Cruises , which is celebrating its 55th year in these waters with seven premium ships sharing 158 departures.

Not counting grand voyages with itineraries so rich they make a visit to Alaska seem more like a pit stop, this cruise season will see more than 800 trips of mostly seven to 10 days starting or ending on this side of the Pacific. Where they’re all going is a destination rich in unparalleled wilderness, wildlife and native culture. In other words, bucket list stuff.

“Alaska is one of those places that draws you in and sets the hook right away,” said Kristi Switzer, destination marketing manager for Travel Juneau. “Visitors come for the otherworldly experience of being in the presence of glaciers and fjords, seeing whales and bears and finding the balance of Alaska Native cultural heritage with the rustic sophistication found in the capital city.”

Although Switzer recommends visits lasting several days instead of several hours, the city’s destination evangelist hopes that a partial day in Juneau and each major Alaskan cruise port will have 1.5 million passengers wanting more.

“This magical corner of the world has so much to offer beyond being a checkmark on people’s bucket lists,” she said.

Alaska is a checkmark for about three-quarters of all passengers headed there, according to the Alaska Tourism Industry Association, and the same can be said for two ships this season.

Starting with a six-day sail out of Vancouver on May 11, the namesake of Celebrity Cruises ’ popular Edge class will make its Alaskan debut with weeklong roundtrips from Seattle through Sept. 13. The 2,918-passenger vessel features a unique “outside-in” architecture that provides more floor-to-ceiling glass on the exterior and expanded outdoor spaces to soak up the Alaskan coastlines.

Edge will be joined by a pair of fleet mates for the season, albeit Summit’s seven-day roundtrips are turnarounds out of Anchorage or Vancouver, and Solstice’s weeklong jaunts are solely based in the British Columbian seaport. Celebrity, a premier-category cruise line has 57 departures to Alaska scheduled this year.

The other new recruit is Silver Nova, the youngest Silversea Cruises  ship in the luxury fleet to ever service Alaska. Capped at 728 guests, Silver Nova was launched last year and has the goods to do justice to a dreamlike place that captures the imagination of wilderness lovers and history buffs.

“Silver Nova is the ideal ship for Alaska cruising,” said company spokesman Brad Ball. “Her innovative design, which incorporates an unprecedented 4,000 square meters of glass, immerses guests into the incredible scenery of Alaska from virtually all venues and suites, with far-reaching views at every turn.”

The ship’s reimagined pool deck, which overlooks the water on her starboard side, and all-new outdoor venues — the Dusk Bar and the Marquee — allows unique openness to view spectacular Alaskan glaciers and wildlife. Those who want to experience an older and smaller Evolution-class Silversea vessel can book the Silver Muse, which also will sail mostly seven- to 14-day trips between Anchorage and Vancouver.

Because nearly every Alaskan cruise includes the staples — Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Inside Passage and Denali with a land add-on — some cruise lines like to shake things up with unique itineraries.

Holland America has a roundtrip that makes it easy to visit the 49th and 50th states without a long flight. A new “Glaciers & Volcanos: Alaska to Hawaii” cruise, part of the premium line’s Legendary Voyages collection of journeys from 25 to 59 days, departs on Aug. 31 from Seattle or Sept. 1 from Vancouver aboard the 1,916-passenger Westerdam. The nearly four-weeklong itinerary includes seldomly visited Kodiak and Dutch Harbor before heading down to the tropics to make four calls to three Hawaiian islands.

Seabourn  strives to offer a more tasteful Alaskan cruise and not only because it’s an ultra-luxury cruise line. “Caviar on the Ice” is a savory and swanky soiree on every Alaskan voyage, and when the 450-passenger Odyssey is in Sitka, a town originally built by Russian traders in the early 1800s, Seabourn guests can enjoy a culinary adventure that includes a scenic drive to a taproom for a sampling of local brews and a few eateries to try Siberian-rooted pelmeni dumplings and a hot dog made with caribou that the locals call “reindeer dawgs.” Sorry, vegetarians and friends of Santa, but Blitzen on a bun is da bomb.

Disney Cruise Line  is sending its 2,700-passenger Disney Wonder out of Vancouver for 15 week-long roundtrips, one five-day spin leaving on July 24 and an extended nine-day voyage on July 15.

Other cruise lines showing passengers a whale of a time in Alaska include Crystal, Cunard, Hurtigruten, Lindblad/National Geographic, Oceania, Ponant, Regent Seven Seas and Viking.

See Four Seasons' upcoming ultra-luxury cruise with a $350,000-a-week suite bigger than most homes

• Four Seasons says it will begin sailing an  ultra-luxury yacht cruise in January 2026.
• The 222-guest vessel would have 95 spacious suites and 11 dining options — but food wouldn't be free.
• The largest suite would have four floors and bedrooms, a spa, and a price of $350,000 per sailing.

Four Seasons plans to expand its high-end hotels and resorts portfolio with a luxury 222-guest cruise ship.

The company says the 95-suite vessel will debut in January 2026 and cost a minimum of $20,000 per weeklong sailing.

For that price, the luxury hospitality giant says travelers would enjoy a one-to-one guest-to-staff ratio and massive suites spanning as many as four floors. If all goes as planned, the 679-foot-long Four Seasons I could become one of the most expensive and opulent options in the cruise industry.

The ultra-plush 14-deck Four Seasons I is scheduled for 19 voyages in 2026 to more than 130 Caribbean and Mediterranean ports.

Reservations opened two weeks ago. Those interested can register to join a waitlist or book through a travel agent.

So far, "sales have been very encouraging, and the demand is exciting to see," Thatcher Brown, chief commercial officer and head of joint operations for Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings, told Business Insider in a statement. The company is a joint owner and operator of Four Seasons Yachts.

Renderings make the Four Seasons I look as opulent as the brand's land-based properties.

Four Seasons says its vessel will have 95 suites ranging from 537 to 9,975 square feet, some with three bedrooms.

The smallest suite starts at $19,700 for a five-night roundtrip voyage to Athens, Greece.

No windowless interior cabins here: Like other ultra-luxe cruises, the suites would all have terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Customers could expect upscale amenities like a walk-in closet, down-filled duvets and pillows, and marble dual vanity bathrooms, per Four Seasons.

The most premium suites would also feature additional accommodations for "personal assistants," such as au pairs or security personnel.

Some options, like the 7,952-square-foot Loft Suite, could be adjoined with seven other cabins to accommodate up to 20 people.

Without connecting cabins, the Loft Suite would already have three bedrooms and bathrooms, a powder room, and a sauna.

Others, like the largest Funnel Suite, would have its own spa and kitchen.

Four Seasons says the 9,975-square-foot mansion, partially perched in the ship's glass-lined funnel , will span four floors, four bathrooms, three bedrooms, and three powder rooms.

Not to mention the private elevator, pool, and $350,000-a-voyage price tag.

Accommodations of this price and size are generally unheard of in the cruise industry.

Luxury operator Silversea says the largest suite on its upcoming 728-guest Silver Ray will be 1,324 square feet. Competitor Regent Seven Seas' new Seven Seas Grandeur debuted in 2023 with a more expansive six-guest 4,443-square-foot option.

Both suites' sizes and prices — Regent's starts at $42,000 per person for a total of $252,000 at maximum occupancy — would be stunted by Four Seasons' promise of a 9,975-square-foot, $350,000 floating mansion.

But cabins with six-digit prices aren't unheard of.

While not a luxury cruise line, Royal Caribbean's popular three-floor townhouse on the new Icon of the Seas is being booked at an average of $100,000 a week — although it's about four times smaller than Four Seasons' largest.

Royal Caribbean and other mass-market cruise lines are beloved, in part, for their unlimited complimentary food options.

Regent Seven Seas' all-inclusive fare also covers caviar, foie gras, and Champagne.

But don't expect any of these to be free on the Four Seasons I.

Breakfast would be complimentary. Lunch, dinner, and booze would not.

The vessel's 11 restaurants and lounges would be priced similarly to Four Seasons' on-land properties. (A dinner entrée at its resort on the Caribbean island of Nevis — also one of the ship's destinations — ranges from $34 to $163.)

The pricing structure may sound odd to most cruise traditionalists. (Hey, at least WiFi would be "free.")

But some of the ship's amenities could look familiar: Like most cruise liners, the Four Seasons I would have a pool, spa, and clubs for children and teens.

The company also promises a lounge and marina that will open onto the water, giving guests direct access to activities like snorkeling or windsurfing.

Four Seasons Yachts plans to take delivery of its $399 million vessel, now being built by famed Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, in late 2025.

A second Fincantieri-built ship would join the hospitality company's fleet the following year. The next vessel would cost more than 400 million euros, about $429.2 million, Four Seasons says.

This isn’t Four Seasons' first foray into itinerary-based vacations.

The company has also found "tremendous success" in its private jet-based "cruises," Alejandro Reynal, the president and CEO of Four Seasons, told BI in a statement.

Its 2024 vacation-by-air itineraries started at $135,000 for a 16-day Asia tour. Demand has been growing, he said, "signaling that luxury travelers are looking for immersive, exclusive, end-to-end travel journeys that allow them to explore the world with their favorite brands."

But its new ultra-luxe cruise arm would be entering an increasingly crowded luxury market, soon to be dominated by like-minded hospitality giants.

High-end Aman Resorts and Orient Express plan to launch their own luxury cruises in 2027 and 2026, respectively.

Staying ahead of the competition, Ritz-Carlton debuted its first 149-suite Evrima yacht cruise in 2021, with a second 224-cabin ship scheduled to begin sailing later this year. Its least expensive itinerary is currently $5,100 per person for a six-night voyage from Barbados to Puerto Rico in early 2025.
