Calling All ARMYs: BTS 'Map Of The Soul' Tour Dates Are Finally Here

This is not a drill: BTS are going back on tour. After much speculation, the band announced their Map of the Soul world tour on Jan. 21, and ARMYs are over the moon with excitement over the news. Now, fans have had their fingers crossed for this news for weeks, but it was well worth the wait. BTS' Map of the Soul tour dates are hitting nearly every continent.

Leading up to the big announcement, there were weeks of rumors surrounding the tour . ARMYs had an inkling that a tour announcement was coming, as various hints about the MOTS tour dates leaked on the internet. But they probably couldn't have guessed their tour would be this epic.

The fun is set to kick off on April 11, 2020 in their home country with four shows in Seoul, South Korea. After that, BTS will hit a whopping 17 cities. The Map of the Soul Tour will take them across North America, South Korea, Europe, and Japan... no big deal.

The best part of all is that the tour arrives just two months after their new album, so there will be tons of new songs to dance to. The K-pop megastars previously announced that their next album, MAP OF THE SOUL : 7, is due out February 21 via BigHit Entertainment.

Here are all the dates announced (so far) across the globe:

Now for the important question: where to get tickets?!

Global Official Fanclub ARMY members will have the first chance to purchase presale tickets beginning at 3pm local time on Feb. 5. Then, general presale will start at 3pm local time on Feb. 6.

Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Feb. 7. at 3pm EST. Seeing as the guys completely sold out their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour , fans better be raring and ready once tickets do go on sale.

BTS perform live in concert.

It's been a week full of treats for ARMYs, and on Jan. 19, the band released an art film reaction video for their new single, "Black Swan," which arrived two days earlier, on Jan. 17. The song marked the first official single from the new album, and included an epic visual to coincide, which featured Slovenian dance troupe MN Dance Company. After watching the art film themselves, ARMYs loved seeing what the BTS boys had to say about it.

ARMYs are always so proud of the boys, and as they get ready to embark on this truly massive tour, they're prouder than ever. Shout out to the guys for blessing us, yet again, with so many epic shows in the year ahead.

When ‘Interlude: Shadow’ , BTS’ comeback trailer dropped, fans got a sense of all the darkness the boy band is about to unleash. Something tells us, this 2020 tour is going to be very different. BTS went from launching games to announcing a whole universe of TV shows . And just when we thought they'd slow down a little, they're back to doing what they do best - fill stadiums with adoring fans.

Things To Note About BTS’s “Map of the Soul” World Tour Dates

bts mots 7 tour dates

Big Hit Entertainment recently announced the official dates for BTS ‘s Map of the Soul world tour for 2020.

bts mots 7 tour dates

The tour starts off in Seoul and ends in Tokyo, but what stands out the most is the fact that more tour dates have been added to the U.S.

Starting off in Santa Clara on April 25, to Chicago on June 6, the group will be spending almost a month and a half of the tour in the states. They will be performing in 9 cities throughout the course of 15 days, revealing that their U.S. portion of the tour has grown three times since their last tour. This proves just how much more popular they have become in the states.

bts mots 7 tour dates

Something else to note is that Toronto has been added to the tour list as well. This will be BTS’s first stadium tour in Canada. During their LOVE YOURSELF: SPEAK YOURSELF tour, the U.S. and Canada were put together in the same category, but this time they are seen separately on the tour list.

bts mots 7 tour dates

Another new country has been added to the list; Spain. On July 17-18, they will be performing in Barcelona. Seeing all these new cities being added to the list only proves just how global BTS is becoming.

One last thing to note about the tour list is the blank space on June 13-14. Fans speculate that it could be a country that has not been seen on the tour list before. Others believe that they could hold a fan meeting in Seoul because these dates happen to be the date they debuted.

BTS Announces "Map of the Soul: 7" Album Sub-Units and Solos

bts mots 7 tour dates

By Sara Delgado

Map of the Soul 7 BTS

We officially only have a few hours before BTS’s new album, Map of the Soul: 7 , arrives, and Big Hit Entertainment has just announced more details regarding the album's tracklist .

Preparing ARMYs for the launch of the album, on February 20, Big Hit sent out a press release explaining the themes behind the 15 new MOTS: 7 tracks and each member’s involvement in the songs.

The album, of course, begins with five already-beloved tracks from Map of the Soul: Persona . But as far as unreleased songs go — lead single “ON" is described as a “powerful and energetic hip hop” song that will take the member’s “calling and mindset as artists during the seven years” as its foundation. And you can expect the digital-only remix of the song, featuring Sia , to have a “pleasantly different vibe” than the original.

The previously released "Black Swan," as well as “We are Bulletproof: the Eternal,” and “Louder than Bombs” (which was co-penned by Troye Sivan) will be the other OT7 tracks from the album. The other tracks will be performed as sub-units or solos.

“Intro: Persona,” "Interlude: Shadow," and “Outro: Ego,” which have all been released, will be performed by RM, Suga, and J-Hope respectively. Together the rap trio will also be in charge of “UGH!” a (diss) track where they’ll sing about anger and malice. RM and SUGA will also show off their wordsmith skills as a rap duo in “Respect.”

Meanwhile, the vocal line will have a song of their own in “00:00 (Zero O’Clock)” — which is being heralded as a heartfelt track. Still within the vocal line, Jimin and V will link up for a duet singing about “their special friendship” in “Friends.”

Apart from those, each member will also have their own solo. Jimin will showcase a never-before-seen side in “Filter”; Jungkook’s “My Time” will look back at his journey since his trainee days; V will sing to “his past self who was going through a rough time” in “Inner Child"; and Jin will serenade ARMYs with “Moon.”

The first official video for the lead single, “ON” will drop at the same time as the full album on February 21 at 4 a.m. EST.

Map of the Soul: 7

By Sheldon Pearce

Pop/R&B

Big Hit Entertainment

February 25, 2020

The BTS brand has never been stronger. The seven Bangtan Boys have already parlayed their massive fanbase into a merch and media empire that includes a Mattel toy collection , a mobile game , and a soundtrack doubling as a collaborative EP. Their new album, Map of the Soul: 7 , is already a huge global hit . It sold two million copies in its first two hours in South Korea and is projected to do bigger first-week numbers stateside than Justin Bieber did. The shareholders are satiated . The Army is spoken for. The K-pop superstars have emerged as the product arm of a worldwide commercial apparatus that’d make the Svengalis behind turn-of-the-millenium teen-pop salivate.

Except the members of BTS maintain that there’s still a beating heart at the core of the machine. Authenticity is part of their appeal, and they use vaguely philosophical, Jungian blueprints to make music about being true to one’s self. 7 , which follows (and includes much of) the 2019 mini-album Persona , is part memoir, part fan service, part amateur psych eval. Though the music is flattened enough to appeal to just about everyone, it can still tap into something enchanting, but the glimpses of personality are fleeting.

The “seven” in the title is an obvious reference to the number of members in the group and the number of years they’ve been performing together. Fittingly, the album is dedicated to their group arc and highlighting their individual journeys within. 7 is highly self-referential, with new songs sampling old songs and alluding to others dating back to their 2013 debut. It is tasked with doing a lot—not only chronicling the group’s path to this point but also unpacking the rest of their ambitious yet hard to parse concept: an exploration of the relationship between the persona and the shadow. There is some obvious overlap between the two: the negativity we unconsciously bear and its correspondence with the masks we all wear mirrors the dichotomy of managing a public face amid the looming private pressures of being a famous K-pop star.

Because the album repurposes Persona as a five-song preface, 7 really begins with the interlude “Shadow,” performed by Suga. “One message that penetrates the album as a whole is that you must face your inner shadow, but resist becoming submerged into its depths,” he explained during the album’s seemingly endless press junket. “Shadow” is supposed to set the tone for a more intense exploration of self from the Boys, together and individually, but it turns out to be the most thoughtful moment on an album that is unnecessarily drawn-out, jumbled, and uneven.

Persona lacked the natural fluidity and chicness of their best music. Those problems aren’t exactly mitigated here, since most of those songs appear on this album too, but within this new context, they feel like a flashback before the saga continues. Many of the new songs are better about balancing Easter eggs for day-ones with new entry points for more casual listeners. J-Hope’s solo cut “Outro : Ego” flips the boom-bap sample from their first intro “ 2 Cool 4 Skool ” into a vibrant dembow groove, and this sonic convergence of the band’s past and present traces its musical history, as he traces his personal one in the lyrics. Conversely, “Louder Than Bombs,” co-written by Troye Sivan , is moody synth-pop that represents the group they’re transforming into—one less reliant on rapping.

Unlike most of their K-pop peers, the BTS prototype was constructed specifically around rap. “I had considered putting together a hip-hop crew, not an idol group,” Big Hit CEO Bang Si-hyuk, also known as group producer Hitman Bang, told Time last year. “But when I considered the business context, I thought a K-pop idol model made more sense.” BTS rappers RM, Suga, and J-Hope were the holdover trainees from that original vision; Bang Si-hyuk refers to them as the group’s “musical pillars.” Tiger JK, of the trailblazing Korean rap group Drunken Tiger, has claimed that BTS cornerstone RM broke the stigma of idol-group MCs as mere roleplaying puppets. Rap-laden art-pop is still what they do best, but they’ve diverted their focus of late. In its attempt to placate every type of BTS fan, 7 sacrifices what’s most effective about the unit.

There are a few reminders. On the lyrical speed run “UGH!” the group’s trio of MCs place themselves among the best Korean rappers, lashing out at haters in the process, with J-Hope putting on a cartoonish display to rival a kook like Danny Brown . With trap drums and heavily Auto-Tuned vox, “Black Swan” sounds like the kind of SoundCloud rap novelty that, in an alternate reality, would land the posh crew on a No Jumper pod. And when solo, Suga and J-Hope each sound comfortable in their elements.

As on 2016’s Wings , the members of BTS separate for solo turns on 7 , and those can be more illuminating than their characterless crossovers with Halsey and Sia . Jimin glides throughout the sanitized, Latin-leaning “Filter,” bringing some color to its convoluted concept and tapping into music’s hottest market . Jungkook’s “My Time” uses a strobing R&B template usually reserved for professing love to capture the overwhelming pace of his career like a nostalgic time-lapse video. But for every moment on 7 that feels revelatory, there’s another that is regressive. On the spectrum of transitional, autobiographical pop, it’s closer to Bieber’s flavorless Changes than Ariana Grande’s vibrant thank u, next .

No genre courts extramusical interest quite like K-pop. There’s a blood pact between stans and idols that complete devotion to the product may sometimes have a dehumanizing effect. As the biggest act working in the industry, it’s interesting that the members of BTS seem to have at least a surface-level desire to maintain the humanity within their cash machine. But their conception of the shadow is personified so literally (as a swallowing black mass of negativity) and so vaguely (rarely speaking to the being of any individual specifically) that it lacks pointedness.

If the most personal is indeed the most creative , then 7 could have benefitted from a bit more personality. V has been open about how “scary” it is to be stalked by fans and Suga has rapped about depression before, but that kind of candor and complication doesn’t factor much into this, their album about the dark side of the psyche and the BTS journey. They could’ve gone deeper and used this psychoanalytic framework to say more about the joys and terrors of all-consuming celebrity—about what it does to the soul. Much has been made of BTS’ autonomy as creators, but their album feels like a brand activation, the latest petition for everyone to like and subscribe.

BTS Achieves Fourth No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart With ‘Map of the Soul: 7’

BTS lands its fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with the biggest week of 2020 for any release, as Map of the Soul: 7 storms in atop the tally.

By Keith Caulfield

BTS

BTS lands its fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with the biggest week of 2020 for any release.

Map of the Soul: 7 storms in atop the tally with 422,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 27, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Of that sum, 347,000 are in album sales. It’s the fourth No. 1 in less than two years for the seven-member South Korean pop group.

BTS’ big bow is accompanied by two more debuts in the top 10, from YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Ozzy Osbourne.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new March 7-dated chart, where Map of the Soul: 7 enters at No. 1, will be posted in full on Billboard’s website on March 3.

BTS Fans Inspired to Donate Concert Ticket Refunds to Coronavirus Relief

Map of the Soul: 7  was released on Feb. 21 via BigHit Entertainment. Its first-week total of 422,000 equivalent album units comprises 347,000 in album sales, 48,000 in SEA units and 26,000 in TEA units. The album’s SEA sum equates to 74.79 million on-demand streams of the set’s 20 tracks in its first week.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the achievements BTS earns with the act’s latest No. 1 debut:

Biggest Week of 2020: With a whopping 422,000 equivalent album units earned, Map of the Soul: 7 lands the largest week for any album in 2020. The last set to tally a bigger week was Harry Styles’ Fine Line , which arrived at No. 1 with 478,000 on the Dec. 28, 2019-dated list.

Biggest Week for a Group in Four Years: Map of the Soul: 7 scores the largest week for an album by a group, in units, since the Dec. 5, 2015-dated chart, when One Direction’s Made in the A.M. bowed at No. 2 with 459,000 units.

BTS Cancels Korean Tour Dates Over Coronavirus Outbreak

BTS Continues to Grow: Map of the Soul: 7 ‘s overall first-week units of 422,000 and its first-week sales of 347,000 are high-water marks for the group. Each of BTS’ last four albums — all No. 1s — have started with successively larger first-week units and sales. The act’s last album, Map of the Soul: Persona began with 230,000 units (with 196,000 in sales) on the April 27, 2019-dated chart. Before that, Love Yourself: Answer started with 185,000 units (141,000 in sales) on Sept. 8, 2018, and Love Yourself: Tear bowed with 131,000 units (100,000 in sales) on June 2, 2018.

Biggest Sales Week for an Album in 2020: Map of the Soul: 7 sold 347,000 copies — the biggest sales week for any album in 2020, and the best sales frame for a set since Harry Styles’ Fine Line sold 393,000 copies in its first week (Dec. 28, 2019-dated chart).

Map of the Soul: 7 sold well without the aid of a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer, nor any merchandise/album bundles, as has become the norm for many major releases (including Fine Line ).

BTS Cover Post Malone, 'Friends' Theme With James Corden For Carpool Karaoke: Watch

That said, Map of the Soul: 7 sold strongly thanks in large part to the availability of four elaborate collectible CD packages — the same release strategy employed by BTS with its three No. 1 albums, as well as many other South Korean pop acts. Of Map of the Soul: 7 ’s first-week sales of 347,000, sales of its CD variants comprised 95% (330,000), while its digital album totaled just 5% (17,000).

Each of the four CD variants of Map of the Soul: 7 has the same base contents (the CD album, a photo book, lyric book, a mini notebook, a postcard, a sticker, coloring paper and a poster), though each has slight differences depending on which of the four CD packages the customer purchases. Further enhancing the collectability of the packages: each contains one of 32 randomized photo cards.

Fourth No. 1 Album: Before Map of the Soul: 7 , BTS led the Billboard 200 with its last three charting albums: Map of the Soul: Persona (2019), Love Yourself: Answer  (Sept. 2018) and Love Yourself: Tear (June 2018). The group has now racked up four albums in a little more than one year and nine months’ time, as its first leader, Love Yourself: Tear , bowed at No. 1 on the list dated June 2, 2018.

BTS Take Over 'The Tonight Show,' Perform 'ON' at NYC's Grand Central Station: Watch

The last act to earn four No. 1 albums faster was Future, who logged his fourth No. 1 (a self-titled album, on March 11, 2017) just one year and seven months after his first ( DS2 , Aug. 8, 2015). He claimed his fifth No. 1 one week after his fourth No. 1, when HNDRXX bowed atop the list dated March 18, 2017.

The last group to generate four No. 1s faster than BTS was The Beatles, who took just one year and five months between Yesterday and Today (July 30, 1966) and Magical Mystery Tour (Jan. 6, 1968).

And finally, the last group to log its first four No. 1s faster than BTS was The Monkees, who took just one year and 21 days between the quartet’s self-titled debut album (with its first week at No. 1 on Nov. 12, 1966) and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, and Jones, Ltd. (Dec. 2, 1967).

10th Mostly Non-English Album at No. 1: Map of the Soul: 7 is the 10th album performed mostly in a language other than English to reach No. 1. The previous mostly non-English No. 1s were BTS’ three earlier leaders, SuperM’s The First Mini Album EP (2019), Andrea Bocelli’s Si (2018), Il Divo’s Ancora (2006), Josh Groban’s Closer (2004), Selena’s Dreaming Of You (1995) and The Singing Nun’s self-titled album (1963).

Back on the new Billboard 200, rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again bows at No. 2 with Still Flexin, Still Steppin , which steps in with 91,000 equivalent album units. Most of that sum, 87,000, was in SEA units (equaling 137.3 million on-demand streams for the set’s songs) making it the most streamed album of the week. The artist has racked up 13 chart entries in just over two-and-a-half years. His previous album, AI YoungBoy 2 , became his first No. 1, opening atop the chart dated Oct. 26, 2019.

Ozzy Osbourne’s Ordinary Man debuts at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, granting the rock legend his eighth top 10 album, and matches his highest rank ever on the list. The set starts with 77,000 equivalent album units earned, with 65,000 of that sum in album sales.

Elton John Breaks Record on Mainstream Rock Songs Chart, Thanks to Ozzy Osbourne

Osbourne previously topped out on the Billboard 200 at No. 3 in 2007 with Black Rain . His last studio album, 2010’s Scream , debuted and peaked at No. 4.

Justin Bieber’s Changes falls from No. 1 to No. 4 in its second week, earning 66,000 equivalent album units (down 71%). Roddy Ricch’s Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial slips 4-5 with 65,000 units (down 8%), A Boogie Wit da Hoodie’s Artist 2.0 descends 2-6 with 57,000 units (down 49%) and Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding shifts 6-7 with 50,000 units (up 1%).

The late Pop Smoke’s Meet the Woo, V.2 is a non-mover at No. 8 with 49,000 equivalent album units earned — up 23% following the first full week of tracking impact after his death on Feb. 19. Trippie Redd’s former No. 1 A Love Letter to You 4 vaults 36-9 with 43,000 units (up 148%) after it was reissued with bonus tracks. Rounding out the new top 10 is Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? , falling 7-10 with 38,000 units (down 14%).
