bushnell v3 tour manual

GM verdict: The Tour v2 was an outstanding product that remains an essential piece of kit for many players. Wisely, the new v3 uses similar styling and ergonomics, so that it still feels great in the hand. New JOLT technology is fantastic for reinforcing when you have found the closest target to you (normally the pin), and helps to speed up the process. This is a fine addition to the Bushnell line.But... although the holding pouch offers good protection, it isn't quite as user-friendly as the one on the Tour v2 model.PGA pro verdict:An excellent rangefinder that?s easy to operate and fits beautifully into the hand. I really liked the JOLT facility, which gives the user a small vibration through the unit when it locks on to the flag. It gives very fast readings and was a joy to use. The unit has a very striking design, and I?d recommend it to any golfer. Importantly, it's also waterproof. A top product.Test team rating:Performance: 5/5Visual appeal: 5/5Innovation: 5/5Value: 5/5Overall: 4.5/5

The addition of JOLT technology on the new Bushnell products is outstanding and offers reassurance that you have found the yardage to the flag. As with previous Tour V models this unit fits very comfortably in the hand and is excellent at picking up the intended target. It is undoubtedly a very solid all-round performer and it’s still easy to see why we have given special mentions in previous tests. Another impressive offering from a fantastic laser brand.

If you can afford to pay the extra money, the Tour Z6 model offers all of this and more in a compact package. The white colour means it can get grubby quicker than some of the other models in the Bushnell range.

The Golf Monthly team brings you its Bushnell Tour V3 JOLT review, revealing all you need to know about this golf GPS device

Key technology: Bushnell Tour V3 JOLT review

Bushnell family of rangefinders incorporates new JOLT technology, which means the unit vibrates when the nearest object (usually the flag) is located. The Tour V3 model magnifies by five and can pick yardages up to 1,000 yards away and can pick up a flag from 300 yards and in. A newly designed unit, it should improve the fit and feel in the hand, and is also waterproof.

Bushnell Tour V3 Review

Full Bushnell Tour V3 Review

Bushnell is a well-regarded maker of high-end optics used for a variety of sporting purposes. The Bushnell Tour V3 rangefinder adds to the brand’s positive appeal with a truly versatile and effective golf rangefinder. The Tour V3 is the successor to the very popular Bushnell V2 and promises to improve upon an already highly regarded golf rangefinder that is accessibly priced but not cheap in any way.

Bushnell Tour V3 Rangefinder Review

General Overview

The Bushnell Tour V3 offers an exceptional 1,000-yard range that fully covers just about any reasonable distances measurement a golfer could use. It is accurate to within 10 yards at up to 1,000 yards, which is plenty good for sending the ball where you need it to go. When you are within 300 yards, accuracy improves to within a half a yard or meter of the target.

The viewfinder gives you 5X magnification so that you can get a very clear view of any hazards, traps, trees or other obstacles by looking through a large 24 mm objective lens. An included scan mode gives you a continuously updated distance reading to various objects on the hole and presents the information on an LCD display.

You can use a scan mode to quickly view the golf hole that you are about to play and get various distance readings to the tree line, water hazards, sand traps and other objects that might interfere with your par-or-better score. That makes it possible to set up a much better approach shot to the green without slowing down overall play. The lower your score, the faster your round goes, too.

Build Quality and Dimensions

The Bushnell Tour V3 improves upon the prior generation V2 with a lighter and more svelte design that better fits your hand while putting the rangefinder power at your fingertips. The rangefinder measures 2.8 inches tall by 4.2 inches long by about 1.6 inches wide and weights just 6.7 ounces.

Use is exceptionally simple with a single button located on top of the rangefinder enabling you to cycle through user modes. Its light and ergonomic design makes it a perfect companion for a round of golf on a hot a humid summer day. A polymer body and waterproof build help it to work even on a cold and misty morning on the golf course or at the driving range.

  • Quick scanning and 5X magnification with large viewing optic.
  • Comfortable ergonomic design.
  • Long battery life.
  • Waterproof body.
  • Slope Edition measures angles to within 1 degree of accuracy.
  • Accuracy within a yard not as exact as competing brands.
  • Does not use a rechargeable battery.
  • No slope compensation on the standard V3.

PinSeeker and JOLT Technologies Ensure Accuracy

The best golf rangefinders include a feature that ignores other objects to quickly lock in on the flag and pin so that you get a quick and accurate distance reading to the hole. The Bushnell Tour V3 does to, too, with its PinSeeker technology that locks in on the flag and gives you the correct distance to the hole instead of a background object.

The JOLT technology is just a fancy way of saying the V3 gives you a gentle but noticeable vibration when the rangefinder locks onto the pin. The vibration helps you to know you are getting the correct reading without having to overthink what is going on and instead can concentrate of choosing the proper club and swing to get the ball to where you need it to go.

The JOLT technology is an improvement over the Bushnell Tour V2 model and helps to affirm the new edition of the Bushnell’s Tour rangefinder series continues to improve upon an already very popular golf rangefinder that does just about everything as well as you could hope.

Bushnell Tour V3 Slope Edition Technology

The Bushnell Tour V3 Slope Edition gives you the angle reading to the hole and tells you the effective distance after analyzing the slope change. When a rangefinder gives you a straight distance to the hole it does not bother with any change in elevation. The slope technology in the V3 gives you the slope reading to within 1 degree of accuracy and then compensates for the elevation change to tell you what the effective distance is to the hole.

If you are working on an approach shot to the green the playing surface either rises or fall, it will have a very telling effect on your golf shot. When the terrain rises to a slightly higher elevation, the Tour V3 tells you what the elevation of incline or decline is and then gives you the compensating information so that you know how far the ball needs to travel to get to the green .

It is important to note that if you want the slope-compensating technology in the V3, you must buy the V3 Slope Edition. The standard Tour V3 does not include it because the slope compensation is banned in organized tournament play. Most rangefinders that offer the slope compensation enable you to turn it off to make it legal for play. The V3 Slope Edition does so as well, but those who do not want to worry about it can just opt for the standard Bushnell Tour V3 and save some money.

Affordable and Accessible Bushnell Tour V3 Battery

The Bushnell Tour V3 battery is a standard CR2 type commonly found in retail stores around the globe. The battery provides substantial power that users say will power up the rangefinder for about a year, depending on how often you go to the range or play rounds of golf. The included Bushnell Tour V3 battery power indicator tells you when you have plenty of power on tap or the battery is getting weak and needs a replacement.

The batteries generally are sold in packs of two, so it is easy to obtain and keep a fresh spare just in case. It the one in use suddenly shows it is weak and you are unsure it will last the entire round of golf or your trip to the range, you can put in the new one in just a few seconds and continue as intended.

Should You Buy One?

The Bushnell Tour V3 is a definite improvement in design and function over the prior V2 model that many golfers considered to be the best of the Bushnell line. The V3 and the optional V3 Slope Edition rangefinders are great tools to make any golfer’s game better and a generally good value.

Bushnell Tour V3 Review – Does This Laser Rangefinder Deserve Praise?

Charging around and looking for distance markers, then calculating how far out you are from the pin, wastes time and detracts from the fun of golf. Fortunately, like with everything else, technology has solved this problem for us, with range finders.

The initial GPS rangefinders had their flaws as their accuracy was more of an estimation than an accurate measurement. However, the advent of laser rangefinders has brought the accuracy of some devices on the market to within one yard of the actual distance.

A laser rangefinder that golfers constantly praise for its accuracy is the Bushnell Tour V3 laser range finder. Let’s see how deserved this praise is.

Bushnell Tour v3 Slope Laser Rangefinder

Features & benefits, 1. bushnelltour x, 2. callaway 300 pro laser rangefinder, 3. mileseey pf210 laser rangefinder, final thoughts, related articles, things to consider before buying a laser rangefinder.

Before considering which laser rangefinder is best suited for your needs, you may want to consider whether the laser option is necessary in the first place. If you are on the hunt for a device that gives you the yardage to the front, back, and middle of the green, then a GPS option is sufficient.

If you want more specific information such as the exact yardage to the flag, then keep reading, the laser rangefinder is what you seek. These are a few key factors to consider before going out and buying the next rangefinder you see.

To prevent the hassle of researching all the laser rangefinders on the market, set yourself a budget, and work from there. If your budget is higher, you will likely be able to purchase technology that is more accurate and provides you with more advanced information in terms of your target. That said, some golfers just want a simple measurement.

Determine the environment in which you will be using your laser range finder and the distances that you will be working with. If you only use the rangefinder on the range to help you improve your distance control, then you may not need a device with long-range. If you only use it on the course, then make sure your laser rangefinder is equipped to cover the distance you require.

Think about the space that you have left in your golf bag , as well as the size of your hands. For optimum functionality, you need to hold the pathfinder as still as a sniper. Make sure your device can fit comfortably into your hands, to maintain a stable grip, and achieve better focus.

The point of a pathfinder is to give you the distance between your ball and the target, so you would expect them to all be accurate. However, it varies, and while some devices can achieve accuracy within one yard of the actual distance, others have been known to be off by over 30 yards.

Given the variety of elements found on a golf course, it can take pathfinders some time to identify the flag or your target. In some cases, a device may mistake leaves behind the flagstick for your target and provide an incorrect measurement.

In other cases, manufacturers use Jolt technology, which creates a vibration in the device when it locks onto the target. This informs you that the device has identified the flag and measured the correct distance.

If you opt for a device with slope, you will receive accurate yardage readings, even on courses that are loaded with hills and undulating fairways and greens. If you regularly play on a flat parkland-style course, then a slope option is not necessary, however, if your home course is a links, you are going to want to use the slope feature to your advantage.

Bushnell Tour V3 Slope Edition Golf Laser Rangefinder, White

  • Accurate to within in 1 yard
  • Locks onto the target easily
  • Range of 1000 yards
  • Jolt technology notifies you when it has measured distance to the flag.
  • Easy to hold and stabilize
  • Older version of laser rangefinder
  • Not waterproof
  • It takes longer to open the case to get the rangefinder out

The Bushnell Tour V3 standard edition is another example of golf tools created to make the lives of the everyday golfer easier. From my perspective, the accuracy of laser pathfinders is in another world in comparison to GPS. On some courses, you don’t have the option of being a few yards too long or too short, you need to be on the money.

Caddies on tour often use laser rangefinders in practice rounds to know the exact distance to each location of the green come competition time.

Whether you want to work on your distance control when you are on the range. Or you are looking for dead accuracy on the course, this is a technology that may be up your alley.

Pinseeker Technology

We have all become accustomed to Bushnell’s Pinseeker technology in their laser range finders. It allows you to zero in on the flag, and blur any other objects out, giving you the distance only to the flag. This dramatically increases the accuracy of your distance measurements.

Jolt Technology

Jolt technology enhances the performance of Pinseeker technology. Once you have zeroed in on the flag, you will feel two brief vibrations. This is to inform you that the Tour V3 has read the distance to the flag, and the information displayed on your screen is the accurate measurement.

As a result, you have peace of mind that you have the right read, and can hit your shot without fear of going long or coming up short of the green.

Ergonomic Design

The expert ergonomic design of the Tour V3 makes it an easy device to handle and stabilize when aiming at your target. It was designed to fit perfectly into your hands and give you a better grip and control over it.

Zipper Case

I did mention above that the case was one of the cons of the Tour V3. My reasoning was more to do with how annoying it is to get the device in and out of the casing every few minutes when I am on the course.

That being said. The case does an excellent job of protecting your device and preventing it from falling out of your bag.

While the case of the Tour V3 is sturdy and designed to prevent you from losing your laser rangefinder, Bushnell’s made a device that is also durable and able to withstand a drop or few.

Bushnell Tour V3 Laser Range Finder Alternatives

No products found.

The Tour X is a newer edition laser range finder than the Tour V3. It is designed with many of the same features as the older Bushnell model, including the brand’s award-winning jolt technology.

Tour X laser range finders are equipped with stage technology. This gives you an interchangeable face to switch from slope mode in practice rounds to standard in tournaments. As per the USGA rule 14-3, “multifunctional devices are permitted during tournaments, but may only measure distance, not the environment around it.

The more you use the slope feature in practice rounds the better you will become at judging the distance of undulated course designs, without the assistance of the slope feature.

The other feature that this range finder has, which was not found on previous models, is the light setting. You can change the light setting from dim to bright, depending on the time of day that you are playing. This helps your device achieve optimum magnification to better identify the pin, from dusk until dawn.

This is a rangefinder for the golfer who wants more detailed feedback regarding their distance. Mid to low handicap players that are looking to improve their distance control may want to consider the Tour X.

Callaway Golf 300 Pro Slope Laser Rangefinder

The 300 Pro laser rangefinder is an excellent example of Callaway’s commitment to innovation. This device includes the same features as most other laser rangefinders, including pin seeking technology.

Callaway has employed the use of their Pin Acquisition Technology (P.A.T), which helps you to accurately lock onto the pin from 300 yards away. The maximum range of the device is 1000 yards, useful for navigating the hazards in play on par 5’s and longer par 4 holes.

The scan feature on this laser rangefinder enables you to scan the hole in front of you and receive distances to a variety of targets simultaneously. You will get distances to bunkers, water hazards to keep you away from trouble at all times.

This is another laser rangefinder that is more suited to the serious golfer, looking for detailed information to help them with their shot selection.

The PF210 laser rangefinder has the lowest range of the devices we have looked at. The maximum range is a little over 650 yards, which shouldn’t be a problem if you only want the distance to the target of your next shot.

This is another laser rangefinder that is equipped with slope mode, to help you receive more accurate distance readings, that factor in your environment. It also comes with a flagpole lock feature, which is effectively Mileseey’s version of pinseeker technology.

The PF210 is a pocket-sized device, which is easy to hold and stabilize. Giving you faster and accurate yardage measurements to your target. It also powers down after 8 seconds to save battery. This is a rangefinder that has three modes. Normal, scan, and pin.

In normal, you turn on your device aim at your target and press the power button to get a reading. Scan mode allows you to continuously scan your surroundings to get real-time distances to various targets. Finally, Pin mode picks out the flagstick and gives you a direct measurement of the bullseye.

Bushnell’s continue to show why they are regarded as the best in the laser rangefinder market. While there are several newer rangefinder models available on the market, this device still gets the job done.

The biggest benefit of the Bushnell Tour v3 Slope Laser Rangefinder is that it helps players improve their distance control. This can benefit all handicap golfers, that play on courses with tight greens that offer no room for error.

The device will give you accurate readings to within one yard, allowing you to swing easy, and land the ball close.

It is also a suitable option for those players who are looking to move away from on course distance markers or GPS devices. While it may be an older generation product from Bushnell’s,  its accuracy, ergonomic design, and jolt technology, still make it a product worthy of consideration.

If you are looking to make the move onto a laser rangefinder, to help improve your distance control, and accuracy around the course, take a look at Bushnell Tour V3 here .

Sophisticated digital technology instantaneously calculates distances by measuring the time it takes for each pulse to travel from the rangefinder, to the target, and back.

The ranging accuracy of the Tour® X Jolt® is plus or minus one yard / meter under most circumstances. The maximum range of the instrument depends on the reflectivity of the target. The maximum distance for most objects is 1000 yards / 914 meters while for highly reflective objects the maximum is 1300 yards / 1189 meters. Note: You will get both longer and shorter maximum distances depending on the reflective properties of the particular target and the environmental conditions at the time the distance of an object is being measured. The color, surface finish, size and shape of the target all affect reflectivity and range. The brighter the color, the longer the range. Red is highly reflective, for example, and allows longer ranges than the color black, which is the least reflective color. A shiny finish provides more range than a dull one. A small target is more difficult to range than a larger target. The angle to the target also has an effect. Shooting to a target at a 90 degree angle (where the target surface is perpendicular to the flight path of the emitted energy pulses) provides good range while a steep angle on the other hand, provides limited ranging. In addition, lighting conditions (e.g. the amount of sunlight) will affect the ranging capabilities of the unit. The less light (e.g. overcast skies) the farther the unit's maximum range will be. Conversely, very sunny days will decrease the unit's maximum range. E.S.P.2™ (Extreme. Speed. Precision. 2nd generation), our advanced second generation ranging technology, provides the fastest, most accurate ranging measurement based on target conditions. The laser analyzes multiple individual measurements to the target and calculates and displays the best possible result. Target variations such as reflectance, shape and color can affect the accuracy of a laser measurement, but E.S.P.2™ automatically assesses the conditions and improves the measurement up to 1/2 Yard Accuracy whenever possible from 5–125 yards. When this occurs, display readout precision will be refined to 1/10th yard.

OPERATIONAL SUMMARY While looking through the Tour® X Jolt®, depress the power button once to activate the display. Place the aiming circle (located in the center of the field of view) upon a target at least 5 yards away, depress and hold the power button down until the range reading is displayed near the bottom of the in-view display. Crosshairs surrounding the aiming circle indicate that the laser is being transmitted. Once a range has been acquired, you can release the power button. The crosshairs surrounding the aiming circle will disappear once the power button has been released (i.e. the laser is no longer being transmitted). Note: Once activated, the display will remain active and display the last distance measurement for 7 seconds. You can depress the power button again at any time to distance to a new target. As with any laser device, it is not recommended to directly view the emissions for long periods of time with magnified lenses. The maximum time the laser is transmitted (fired) is 7 seconds. To re-fire, press the button down again.

ADJUSTING THE EYEPIECE The Tour® X Jolt® is equipped with an adjustable eyepiece (+/- 2 Diopter Adjustment) that allows you to focus the display relative to the image. Simply rotate the eyepiece until the display is in focus.

INSERTING THE BATTERY Remove the Posi-Thread™ battery door by lifting the battery door tab and then rotating counter clockwise. Insert a CR2 3-volt lithium battery into the compartment negative end first, then replace the Posi-Thread™ battery door. Note: It is recommended that the battery be replaced at least once every 6 months.

ACTIVE LASER Crosshairs surrounding the aiming circle indicate that the laser is being transmitted. Once a range has been acquired, you can release the power button. The crosshairs surrounding the circle will disappear once the power button has been released (i.e. the laser is no longer being transmitted).

PINSEEKER ™ WITH JOLT ® Ever have trouble getting distance to the flag? This advanced mode allows easy acquisition of the flag without inadvertently getting distances to background targets (i.e. trees) that have stronger signal strength. For ease of use, the device will always be in PinSeeker ™ Mode. To use, align the aiming circle reticle onto the flag that you want distance to. Next, press and hold the POWER button and move the laser slowly over the flag or desired object until a circle surrounds the flag indicator. If the laser beam recognized more than one object (i.e. flag and background trees), distance of the flag will be displayed and a circle will surround the PinSeeker™ indicator informing the user that distance to the flag (i.e. closer object) is being displayed. The Jolt Technology provides two short bursts of vibration to confirm that the distance displayed is to the flag. There may be times when only the laser beam only sees one object in its path. In this case, the distance will be displayed, but because more than one object was not acquired, a circle will not surround the flag indicator. Tip: While pressing the POWER button, you can move the device slowly from object to object and intentionally force the laser to hit multiple objects to ensure that you are only displaying the closest of the objects recognized by the laser. Once the device has shut off, the unit will always default back to the last mode used.

PINSEEKER™ WITH SLOPE +/-™

HOW TO USE SLOPE +/- ™ Once in this mode, you will see a " - - - " in the field of view informing you that you are in the Slope +/- Mode. Press the POWER button to obtain distance to the flag or other objects. Once the range is displayed, continue to hold the POWER button down for approximately 2 seconds while holding the aiming circle on the flag and keeping the unit as steady as possible so as to allow the inclinometer enough time to measure slope. Then release the POWER button. Once you have released the power button, a degree of angle and compensated range will be displayed beneath the standard distance. In the example on the next page, the true distance is 162 yards, slope is +4 degrees, and the compensated ("play-as") range is 173 yards.

THE ADVANTAGE OF SLOPE +/-™

DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS The bright red LED display dramatically improves contrast, clarity and light transmission while increasing brightness of the digital readout, making distance readings legible in low light environments. There are four intensity settings to choose from and this is the first setting within the SETUP menu. Press the MODE button for 3 seconds to get into the SETUP menu. The existing brightness setting will be flashing (i.e. BRT1, BRT2, BRT3, or BRT4), pressing the MODE button will toggle between the four brightness settings. "BRT1" is the lowest intensity while "BRT4 " is the brightest. Simply press the MODE button until the desired brightness setting is displayed and select by pressing and releasing the POWER button.

UNIT OF MEASURE OPTIONS The Tour® X Jolt® can be used to measure distances in yards or meters. The unit of measure indicators are located in the lower right portion of the display. There are two measuring settings to choose from and this is the second setting within the SETUP menu. Look through the eyepiece, depress the "MODE" button ("B" Button on side of device) and hold it down for approximately 3 seconds to get into the SETUP menu. Depressing the MODE button will toggle through the brightness settings if the bright red LED display is selected. If you are changing from yards to meters, a change in unit of measure will be indicated by the illumination of the M for meter indicator while the Y for Yard indicator is turned off. If you are changing from meters to yards, the opposite will occur. The Tour® X Jolt® will return to the last unit of measure setting used each time the unit is turned on.

CLEANING Gently blow away any dust or debris on the lenses (or use a soft lens brush). To remove dirt or fingerprints, clean with a soft cotton cloth, rubbing in a circular motion. Use of a coarse cloth or unnecessary rubbing may scratch the lens surface and eventually cause permanent damage. For a more thorough cleaning, photographic lens tissue and photographic-type lens cleaning fluid or isopropyl alcohol may be used. Always apply the fluid to the cleaning cloth – never directly on the lens.

TROUBLE SHOOTING TABLE

If unit does not turn on / display does not illuminate:

  • Depress power button.
  • Check and if necessary, replace battery. If unit does not respond to key presses, replace the battery with a good quality CR2 3-volt Lithium battery.
  • Ensure the display is on the brightest setting while in sunlight. While pressing Power Button, cover the objective lenses to determine if the display is on. See the display brightness setting instructions.

If unit powers down (display goes blank when attempting to power the laser):

  • The battery is either weak or low quality. Replace the battery with a good quality CR2 3-volt Lithium battery.
  • Make sure display is illuminated.
  • Make sure that the power button is being depressed.
  • Make sure that nothing, such as your hand or finger, is blocking the objective lenses (lenses closest to the target) that emit and receive the laser pulses.
  • Make sure unit is held steady while depressing power button.

Note: The last range reading does not need to be cleared before ranging another target. Simply aim at the new target using the reticle, depress the power button and hold until new range reading is displayed.
