Fire breaks out at TN Safari Park

Grass fire at TN Safari Park

ALAMO, Tenn. (WMC) - Multiple fire agencies responded to the Tennessee Safari Park Wednesday after fire broke out on the property.

Crockett County Sheriff’s Department say agencies from Gibson, Haywood, and Dyer Counties along with the Tennessee Division of Forestry, the Tennessee Department of Transportation and Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the scene just before noon Wednesday.

Deputies say the fire involved around 40 acres and a portion of Highway 412 was temporarily shutdown, but has since reopened.

The park says their staff, animals and customers are safe and no injuries were reported.

The fire was caused by a welding spark that got out of hand, according to park officials. Multiple states including Tennessee, are facing dry conditions and fire agencies are reminding residents of the current burn ban.

Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce says thanks to the fast action from Crockett County and surrounding agencies, this large fire was able to be brought under under in less than an hour.

Family's Car Catches Fire Inside Safari Park's Lion Enclosure

car on fire safari park

A family driving through a Safari park’s lion enclosure faced two lethal dangers; their car was on fire and they were surrounded by lions. INSIDE EDITION has the story.

A car was in flames at a Safari park, while a mom and her two children were trapped inside, but they couldn't move because they were surrounded by lions.

Other tourists watched in horror. According to Huffington Post , one recorded calling for help, saying, “We are in the lion enclosure and there's a car on fire!”

Helen Clements and her children, George and Charlie, were enjoying a day out at a safari park when smoke began pouring out from under the hood.

Watch The Segment on This Story

In an exclusive interview with INSIDE EDITION’s Paul Boyd, Clements explained, “The next thing we know there were flames and we thought, ‘We just got to get out of here!’”

Rangers shouted at them to stay inside the vehicle because the lions were right there.  At last, rescuers arrived. Clements told INSIDE EDTION, “Another ranger came up by the side of us and he opened the door we literally just jumped into his vehicle and we said, 'We're staying with you!'”

Other tourists were videotaping when the gas tank exploded.

Charlie jokingly told INSIDE EDTION's Paul Boyd, “I was thinking it's going to blow up and we're all going to die.”

“You laugh about it now but at that moment it's deadly serious wasn’t it?” asked Boyd.

"Yes," she replied.

Safari parks can sometimes be dangerous. Fortunately, the lions at the Safari park in England seemed to be as terrified of the fire as the family inside.

  • Published: 11/08/2023 08:22 PM

A three-alarm fire caused 40 acres of a popular West Tennessee animal park to burn down Wednesday after park officials said a welding spark got out of hand. The Crockett County, Tennessee, Sheriff's Department said their dispatch center first got a call about a fire at the Tennessee Safari Park around 11:52 a.m. Wednesday. Park officials said the fire started when a welding spark got out of hand, and lit a nearby pasture ablaze, quickly spreading out of control. Crockett County dispatch raised three alarms to different fire departments to help get the fire under control. Highway 412 was closed as firefighters from Gibson, Haywood and Dyer Counties battled the blaze. The fire finally was brought under control around 12:46 p.m. The Sheriff's Department said 40 acres were involved in the fire, and park officials said no animals were harmed in the blaze.

Fire at Ohio wildlife park leaves 10 animals dead on Thanksgiving night

By Caitlin O'Kane

Updated on: November 29, 2019 / 11:10 AM EST / CBS News

A devastating fire at an Ohio wildlife park broke out Thanksgiving night, leaving at least 10 animals dead. The African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton, Ohio, said the fire destroyed a barn where the animals were housed.

Three giraffes, three hogs and four antelopes were lost in the blaze, CBS affiliate WTOL-TV reports .

"Oh, we are devastated," park owner Holly Hunt told the station. "Our team, they work so hard to care for these animals. It's just gut-wrenching that this could happen. Our team works so hard every day to care for these animals. It's just heartbreaking."

It was unclear what started the fire. Hunt said the general manager of the 50-year-old park near Lake Erie saw the fire after noticing problems with his electricity, according to WTOL.

A barn burns at an Ohio wildlife park November 28, 2019.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, African Safari Wildlife Park wrote in a Facebook post. The 100-acre park will be closed Friday as staff members mourn the loss and care for the other animals.

"We are grateful that our staff is safe and no one was injured, but the loss of the wildlife that we care for every day is tragic for our team members who love these animals," the park wrote in its post. "We are still assessing the loss of wildlife that was housed in the barn for over-night care and security."

Cars to go extinct at Parc Safari, wildlife park to use electric trucks

Engines will no longer be roaring alongside the animals at Parc Safari.

After more than 50 years, the Hemmingford, Que. wildlife park is going car-free for the 2024 season, instead offering visitors rides on electric trucks in its famous Safari Adventure site. "This year, I'm biting the bullet and taking a chance that people will appreciate driving through our Adventure Safari while a guide tells them and informs them of different aspects of life in the wild," Jean-Pierre Ranger, the owner of Parc Safari. "And going in the park, as you would if you were in Africa, is the intent."

Nine electric Lion trucks, inspired by African safaris, will let visitors get up close and personal with some 300 animals. The transition hopes to offer a more "authentic experience," the park said in a news release.

"Visitors will now have the opportunity to discover the majesty of the wilderness without the noise, vibration, and pollution," it said.

Until now, visitors have driven through the Safari Adventure site in cars, though the park has gradually introduced safari trucks over the past two years. Ranger said the electric vehicles will allow the park to save the gas consumed by 10,000 vehicles.

The park said this new approach will get the "public closer to the wonders of the wild through more intimate encounters and unique sensory experiences such as feeding the animals."

It will also offer an educational component, where guides will share information and anecdotes. Trucks can accommodate up to 50 passengers at a time and are wheelchair accessible, the park said. Ranger said he's been dedicated to sustainable mobility for decades and has long envisioned this project. He hopes it will be a hit, but so far, reaction has been good. And either way, a car-free park is here to stay.

"The smile on the face of people who come out of the bus on our docking area is a demonstration that it works. Now will all people like it? I don't know. But we're not going back to adding individual automobiles in the five-kilometre-long drive through the safari."

Park Safari opens for its 52nd season on May 17.

Lazy tiger hitches ride on car bonnet around safari park

Watch the astonishing moment a lazy tiger hitches a lift on a car bonnet around a safari park.

The big cat scrambled onto the vehicle while tourists were being driven around the Yinji Animal Kingdom in Henan , China , on Thursday 18 April.

Footage shows the white tiger initially standing up, before settling down as the car started to move.

It later climbed down and nobody was harmed.

The Yinji Animal Kingdom is home to more than 3,000 species of rare wild animals and offers visitors the chance to experience a close-up view of the animals.

Cars catch fire at NAIA parking lot

Several vehicles at the extension parking area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 caught fire on Monday.

According to Nimfa Ravelo’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, the Pasay Fire Bureau said they were still looking for the cause of the fire.

Authorities are also checking if anyone was injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eric Ines said that around 19 cars were affected.

He also clarified that the MIAA owned the property where the parking area was located, but it was being leased.

“Palagay namin aksidente. Hindi siguro sinadya ito. Mabilis lang talaga kahit anong tingin mo nakakatakot talaga magsindi ka lang ng konti ang bilis,” said Ines in Mark Salazar’s “24 Oras” report.

(We think it is just an accident. The fire just spread quickly.)

“Di namin alam kung sino-sino mga may-ari. Ipapatawag namin kung sino in charge dito. Halo-halo na. 'Yung isa empleyado daw pero yung iba di namin alam. Baka nga di nila alam hanggang ngayon na nasunog,” he added.

(We don’t know the car owners. We will ask the people in charge of the parking lot. The owners are a mix of people. One of them is said to be an airport employee. We have no idea about the others. They may not even know about the fire.)

Ines also said they would coordinate with the private concessionaire running the pay-per-parking to determine the assistance the firm will extend to the affected car owners.

“Well, I cannot tell that we will have to ask them legally kung ano ang ano nila. Ang importante is how we can avoid ang mga ganitong klaseng sitwasyon because very dry ang season natin ngayon. Susceptible to fire,” he said.

(I cannot tell and we’ll have to ask them legally what their assistance will be. What’s important is to prevent a repeat of the situation.)

In the meantime, the MIAA would deploy a fire truck in the parking lot until the fire-gutted cars were all towed away.

The fire did not affect the operations at any NAIA terminals.

The fire came amid the dangerous heat index levels in some parts of the country. PAGASA said that the heat index in some areas may rise to 42°C to 45°C. — DVM, GMA Integrated News

Burnt out motors still stranded at Luton airport car park months after huge fire

Burnt-out cars at the Luton Airport car park, with an inset picture of the fire.

Charred vehicles are still sitting abandoned inside Luton Airport’s burnt-out car park, six months on from an inferno that caused millions of pounds of damage.

The newly built £20 million building went up in flames in October last year after a diesel Range Rover suffered a fault.

Some 1,300 vehicles were affected by the ferocious blaze , which caused part of the multi-storey to collapse.

Several cars were completely destroyed, while others were left untouched but trapped in the building, including an £80,000 Porsche seen teetering over the edge of the building.

According to the Mirror , insurance payouts to affected vehicle owners have soared to more than £10 million.

New photos show demolition works to take down the car park are underway, but several of the cars remain.

The fire broke out at around 9pm on Tuesday, October 10, and quickly spread across multiple floors, tearing through the vehicles parked there.

A car that has been burned beyond all recognition at the Luton Airport car park.

More than 100 firefighters from more than 15 crews attended and all flights in and out of the airport were suspended that night.

Four firefighters and a member of airport staff were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, while another firefighter was treated at the scene.

It’s believed the flames were burning at a temperature well over 600°C (1,110°F).

A Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said at the time: ‘One half of the structure is fully involved in fire and the building has suffered a significant structural collapse.

Diggers work to remove debris from the site of the car park.

‘Fire crews are working to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings and vehicles on air side of the airport.’

At 8.45am the following day the service confirmed the fire had been extinguished.

It later said the disaster was caused by a diesel car and an investigation found that ‘all evidence’ pointed towards the most probable cause being either an electrical fault or a component failure in the engine bay while the vehicle was moving.

Earlier this month Luton Airport said more than 60% of the affected car park had been dismantled and 75% of the 1,300 vehicles affected have been ‘removed by salvage experts on behalf of insurers’.

It said clearance of the structure was on track and due to be completed next month, with the rebuild set to start later this year.

The new car park will accommodate 1,940 vehicles and feature a ground level drop-off and collection zone.

A screen grab of a video showing the extent of the fire last October.

The airport said that as well as ‘meeting all current fire and safety regulatory requirements’, the new car park, due to be finished in late 2025, ‘will incorporate a fire suppressant system’.

Alberto Martin, Luton Airport’s CEO, said: ‘The dismantling of the car park has been a precise and painstaking process, and its proximity to passengers, buildings, aircraft and the Luton DART railway station has added to the project’s complexity.

‘At the same time, we are working hard to deliver a number of passenger enhancements, including a second premium passenger lounge, several new restaurants and a spectacular mezzanine bar and diner.’

He said the airport was also on track to complete a £20 million refurbishment of the security hall this summer, featuring ‘state-of-the art scanner technology’ to speed up security processing times.

San Carlos Park firefighters rescued a dog from a locked, non-running car on Friday afternoon.

According to the San Carlos Park Fire Protection and Rescue Service District, the crew used their vehicle lock-out kit to get into the car within three minutes.

The dog was rescued before suffering from a heat-related emergency.

The fire department states that in just 30 minutes, a non-running car can heat up by 40 degrees.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Authorities responded Sunday afternoon after two car batteries ignited a fire in downtown Las Vegas.

The first LVFR unit was on scene three minutes after their assignment and found two vehicles inflamed upon their arrival.

TOP-11 Moscow Parks to Visit

I have chosen the best 11 Moscow parks to visit and spend a beautiful time for you. Do not miss and choose one that you like the most – cycling, festivals, flowers, panoramic views and many other things are waiting for you!

Gorky Park (The Central Park of Culture and Leisure) – The main one of the Moscow Parks

In my opinion this park could be called the main park of the city. Why? Because of its huge territory, the central location and the amount of people visiting the park daily.  It was founded in 1928 and in 2011 it was totally reconstructed. Now it pleases visitors with modern objects and soft green lawns.

  • Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 9

The Gorky park is a the right choice for everyone! The youth will like a free WiFi, bicycles, skateboards and other rentals; the couples will enjoy spending time near the river, watching a sunset; parents will appreciate colorful playgrounds and a room for mother and child. Everyone can find something for themselves: from yoga classes  to watching movies in a cozy summer cinema, from dance classes to volleyball playground. Gorky Park is also the venue for all kinds of exhibitions, festivals, events for children and adults. During the winter there is one of the biggest skating rinks in the park.

Museon Art Park – A Second Gorky they say

“Museon” is located on the opposite side of Krimsky Val street. And right now some people believe that Gorky and Museon together is a one space sharing the same beauty.

  • Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 2

The Park of Arts was named this way because there is the largest composition of open-air sculptures in Russia. In its territory there are already more than 1000 unique exhibits: from monuments of the socialist realism era to various kinds of contemporary art. But this is not all the attractions of the park. In recent years, “Museon” has become an important cultural site of the city. The park regularly hold many different concerts, festivals, educational projects in the field of art and design. There is a Central House of the Artist, a comfortable summer cinema and other attractions on territory. Be sure to stroll pedestrian Crimean embankment, which looks like a modern park.

Neskuchny Garden – True Russian Nature is Here

Neskuchny garden is located on the right bank of the Moscow River. Today it is also seen as a part of the Gorky Park. This landscape park is one of the oldest in the city and is protected by the state. Its name was received from the Neskuchnoye Estate of  Prince Trubetskoi which is still located in the park.

  • Leninsky Prospekt metro station, Leninsky Prospect, 30

This park is famous mostly for its location close to the Gorky park. It is a quite place with true nature, lots of trees and squirrels and also ancient architecture. As in every park, there are sports and playgrounds, cafes and even a football field.

Zaryadye Park – 5 Steps Away From The Red Square

The area of this brand new park was opened only in September 2017 and located in the very heart of Moscow – right near the Red Square.

  • Open from 10AM to 10PM
  • Teatralnaya, Okhotnyi ryad, Ploschad Revolutsii

The park has 4 zones, each of them represent different parts of Russian landscapes. Above the river there is a floating bridge from where you get to see one of the best panoramic views on Moscow. Other attractions of the park are 5D cinema where you can take a flight above Moscow, few cafes and restaurants, pretty lakes with fishes and old preserved churches. In addition there is still being built a  philharmonic hall, covered with a huge dome and an Ice cage where the temperature will always stay below zero degrees.

When you are on the Red Square do not miss it!

All-Russia Exhibition Center (VDNKh) – The Soviet Style Moscow Park

Park VDNKh – one of the most famous parks in Moscow. This park is one of the sights of the city as it hasn’t changed much since the Soviet era.

  • VDNKh metro station, Prospect Mira, 119

The symbol of VDNKh is a fountain with 16 women symbolizing the friendship of the nations of the USSR. Around this fountain there are all the pavilions representing 16 republics. Now inside the pavilions you find various shops, cafes and exhibitions. If you go deep inside the park you will find a rocket Vostok and and an aircraft. What is funny the inside of the aircraft there is actually a photo exhibition. Near the northern entrance you there is a famous sculpture “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman”. It is extremely famous among Russians as all the movies by Mosfilm corporation used to start with the picture of this statue. But if you go further inside the park you will reach a very calm area. A lake is there, forest and birds singing. Since the park occupies a large area I suggest you to rent a bicycle.

Sokolniki Park – A Place For A Hunt Or For Leisure?

The park got its name because of the royal falconry, which took place there in the past when there was a dense forest. (Sokol means a falcon.) In 2011 it was significantly transformed: updated lawns, landscaped ponds and picnic areas, restored summer cinema and theater, a large rose garden, sports grounds, bicycle paths and other things.

  • Sokolniki metro station, Sokolnichesky Val, 1, p. 1

From the main entrance along the alley you can walk to the Sokolniki circle, where 8 alleys form 9 sectors, in each of them you will find trees of the same breed.  The park is famous for its rosary, as well as flower decoration. On the territory of the park there are concert halls, a library, amusement zone, dances zone and many many other attractions. In winter the park has a skating rink (a free of charge one) and ski runs. During the warm season you can rent a bicycle.

Tsaritsino Park – A Different World Inside Moscow

Here you can walk for hours, admiring the most beautiful nature and magnificent architecture.

  • Open from 6AM to 12AM
  • Tsaritsyno metro station, Dolsky, 1

The most amazing part of the park is the lake with a light and musical fountain. Every evening the fountain starts the show. Lights and music combined make you feel like you are not in Moscow but in a fairy tale. The park is also well equipped for sports lovers and healthy lifestyle. There are volleyball and basketball courts, a tennis court, sports facilities for acrobatics, bodybuilding equipment.

What I personally like about this park is the atmosphere. This place is actually far from the city center but I love going there anyway. Whenever I go there I feel like I left Moscow with all its hectic lifestyle. It is the place where I relax, enjoy myself or a company of my friends and feel kind of different. By the way totally suggested for a date!

Kolomenskoye Park – Combination Of Reserve and Architecture

The Kolomenskoye park is actually a Museum-Reserve. It is a former residence of Russian tsars and one of the most scenic places in Moscow.

  • May to September – open from 8AM to 12AM, October to April – from 8AM to 9PM
  • Kolomenskoye metro station, Andropov Ave, 39

Alike with Tsaritsino park Kolomenskoye park has its own special atmosphere with all the architecture, trees, ponds and even a river bank. The park regularly hosts various folk festivals and different fairs. In summer time you can play with kites or rent a bicycle and ride around the huge area of the park.

I love the view that you get on the city from one of the hills near the river. I love the apple trees alleys and the beautiful churches. It is also a bit far from the city center but yet worth going there. One of my best friends even celebrated her wedding there.

Aptekarsky Garden or Botanical garden of the Moscow State University – The Best Botanical Garden in The World

Aptekar in Russian language means a pharmacist so basically it is a pharmacist’s garden. It was founded in 1706 by Peter The Great for growing medicinal plants for the royal family. But later they moved it from under the walls of the Kremlin to the current location.

  • Open from 10AM to 8PM
  • Prospect Mira metro station, Prospekt Mira, 26

In the botanical garden there are no attractions and noisy crowds of tourists. The area of the garden is not as big as any other park in Moscow. And the entrance is not free. But this exactly what makes this park one of the most comfortable in the city. In the Aptekarsky garden they grow thousands of different plants, flowers and trees. Some of the trees are more than 300 years old. They held different festivals there: flowers festivals, sand and ice sculptures expositions.

For me it is one of the most beautiful parks not only in Moscow but in the world. I have never seen so many different flowers and plants anywhere else. And trust me I am a real park lover. And what is more the staff really takes care about every single tree or plant there, some of the trees have names and stories. I love it there and I think the price is really worth what you get.

Victory Park – A Park That Makes Us Remember The War

The park is located on the Poklonnaya Hill and it has one of the world’s largest memorial complexes dedicated to the World War II. The park was opened for the 50th anniversary of the Victory on May 9, 1995. It is also one of the main venues in the city for holding a variety of mass events.

  • Park Pobedy metro station, Brothers Fonchenko, 7

On the main avenue of the park there are with 1418 fountains – exactly as long as the war lasted. Fountains make five water terraces, symbolizing five years of military operations. And in the center of the park there is the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. If you are interested in the history of the war do not miss it. The Poklonnaya Hill is a part of the park and from the hill you get one of the best views on the city of Moscow. And I could say this is the best place for watching the fireworks during the mass celebrations. But be aware it gets too crowded then. As in most of the other big parks you can rent a bicycle or rollers there.

Izmailovsky Park – A Mix of a Big Forest and Attractions

Izmaylovsky Park occupies a huge green territory, making up a large part of the Izmailovo district. The park consists of two parts: Izmaylovsky Park of Culture and Rest and the forest park of Izmailovo. First part is full of attractions and restaurants while the second one is like a real forest with pine trees, birch groves, beautiful clearings and ponds.

  • Izmaylovskaya, Shosse Entuziastov or Partizanskaya metro stations, Izmaylovsky Park

It is easy to spend there a whole day. A large landscaped area and a lot of various entertainments for children and adults will help you not to get bored. An observation wheel, a boat station, children’s playgrounds, a dance floor, sports grounds, a skate park – all this is only a small part of the possible leisure activities. In the park there are bike paths and a rental services.

I don’t go there often to be honest. But the park is very very close whenever to a souvenir market on Partizanskaya metro station. And whenever the weather is nice and I have enough of free time I stroll through the alleys of the park and enjoy the nature. So if you are going to the souvenir market too and you have enough free time then do go to the park too.
