How to Choose the Ideal Croatia Cruise

  • Ship Size:  The size of the cruise ship can significantly impact your experience. Larger vessels offer a range of amenities, entertainment options, and expansive facilities. On the other hand, smaller ships provide a more intimate setting, often allowing access to smaller ports and coves that larger ships can't reach. Consider your personal preference – do you value the excitement of a bustling cruise or the tranquility of a more secluded voyage?
  • Delve into the Itinerary:  Carefully examine the cruise itinerary to ensure it aligns with your interests. Different routes showcase different aspects of Croatia's beauty – from charming towns and historic sites to pristine beaches and cultural hubs. Choose an itinerary that captures the essence of what you wish to experience, whether it's Croatia's history, natural wonders, or vibrant local culture.
  • Amenities and Comfort:  Cruise ships offer a range of amenities, from luxurious spas and fitness centers to entertainment venues and specialty restaurants. Consider the amenities that matter most to you and your fellow travelers. Are you looking for a wellness-focused journey, a culinary adventure, or a balance of relaxation and exploration?
  • Immersive Experiences:  Immersive experiences can elevate your cruise to a truly unforgettable adventure. Some cruises offer unique shore excursions that allow you to engage with local communities, visit historical sites, and participate in cultural activities. Look for cruises that offer opportunities to connect with Croatia beyond its coastlines.
  • Duration and Departure Points:  Consider the duration of the cruise and the departure point. Some cruises are shorter and focus on specific regions, while others offer more extensive journeys that encompass multiple destinations. Additionally, consider the convenience of the departure point – is it easily accessible for you, and does it align with your travel plans?

Quick Guide to Croatia's Wine Culture and Wine-Tasting Tours

Hassle-Free

Handpicked experiences, expert crew, trusted by many, unbeatable support, things to know.

Our fleet comprises a variety of motor vessels constructed from wood or steel, available in different sizes, shapes, and categories. These vessels have undergone renovations to adapt them for tourism, with some being over a hundred years old. Most of the steel or iron yachts we offer are either brand new or recently built.

While our vessels are sometimes referred to as sailing ships, their primary mode of propulsion is through engines. It’s worth noting that several of our steel boats do not feature masts and sails.

If you prioritize privacy, luxury, and comfort, we recommend considering vessels from the Premium Superior or Premium categories. For younger passengers or special interest groups comfortable with shared spaces and bathrooms, the Traditional Ensuite vessels are a suitable option. However, Traditional Ensuite vessels typically do not have air-conditioned cabins, and bunk beds are common.

The number of passengers per vessel varies, ranging from 20 to 40 individuals, depending on the size of the boat.

The cabins on our vessels in Croatia are equipped with standard Type F sockets, featuring two pins and grounding. These outlets are compatible with plug types C, E, and F, providing a power output of 16 A and 220 V. Some newer vessels may also include USB sockets.

Fishing equipment is not provided on the boat, but passengers are welcome to bring their own gear. Special permission for fishing is required from specialized agencies in harbors.

Snorkeling equipment may not always be available on the ship. It is recommended to bring your own gear if you plan to go snorkeling.

All vessels are equipped with life-saving boats and life jackets, stored in designated wardrobes on the deck, in the salon, or under beds in the cabins. Passengers who cannot swim should inform the crew and captain. Additional safety guidelines include caution while navigating staircases, holding onto railings on slippery decks, and refraining from prohibited activities like climbing the foremast or swimming too far from the vessel during swim breaks.

While the tap water on the ships is of good quality, it is not recommended for drinking. Water dispensers with reusable glasses are provided, and passengers are encouraged to bring their own refillable bottles.

The primary currency accepted on the ship and throughout Croatia is the Euro. It is advisable to exchange money at a bank or withdraw cash from ATMs. The local currency is required for onboard drinks and additional services. Credit card payments are accepted on Premium and Premium Superior vessels.

Tips are not included in the tour price and are discretionary. They are usually given to show appreciation for good service. If you choose to tip, it is recommended to use your own currency or Euro. Gratuities are equally distributed among all crew members.

During July and August, the sea temperature typically averages around 24.5°C, while the air temperature averages around 28°C. For spring and autumn departures, it is advisable to pack some warmer clothes for cooler evenings.

Cabins on Premium Superior and Premium ships offer either twin or double beds, and some can accommodate up to three people with an additional bed. However, bed availability is limited, and specific types cannot be guaranteed. Guest preferences and requests are considered during the cabin assignment process.

Cabins on Premium and Premium Superior ships have twin or double beds, with twin beds measuring approximately 90/100 cm x 190/200 cm and double beds measuring around 150/160 cm x 190/200 cm. Traditional Ensuite cabins often have bunk beds, but twin or double beds may also be available. Double beds in these cabins typically measure 130/140 cm x 190/200 cm, while bunk beds are about 80/90 cm x 190/200 cm in size.

The cabins are distributed on two levels: deck and lower deck. Deck cabins are located on the main or upper deck, providing direct access to the sea and better ventilation. Lower deck cabins are situated in the ship’s hull and may offer quieter surroundings as only passengers with lower deck cabins pass by. Lower deck cabins are also comfortable due to their location at sea level, which keeps them naturally cool. Lower deck cabins usually feature small portholes.

Lower deck cabins are located in the boat’s hull and typically have small portholes. However, Croatian law and vessel regulations require these portholes to be closed while sailing to prevent water from entering the cabin. The portholes can be opened when the boat is docked. On newer ships in the Premium Superior and Premium categories, the portholes are fixed and cannot be opened.

The frequency of cabin cleaning depends on the vessel category. On Premium Superior and Premium vessels, the cabins are cleaned daily, and fresh bed linen is provided upon arrival. Traditional Ensuite category vessels require passengers to keep their cabins clean, while the crew cleans commonly used toilets and bathrooms. Towels are provided, and cabin cleaning during the cruise can be requested for an additional fee.

Air conditioning is available in cabins on Premium Superior and Premium vessels, except during times with limited access to electricity. Traditional Ensuite cabins do not have air conditioning, but lower deck hallways and salons usually do. Air conditioning operates when the motor or generator is running, or when the vessel is connected to shore power while docked. In smaller fishing harbors without electricity, the air conditioning may be turned off to maintain a peaceful environment.

If you plan to sleep on the deck and stargaze, it is recommended to bring a sleeping bag. Removing mattresses, pillows, and sheets from the cabins is prohibited.

The boats have limited capacities for electricity and water. A generator is on board for generating electricity, but it is not operational during the night or in quiet bays to prevent noise pollution. The water tanks have sufficient capacity to match the number of cabins and beds, and they are always filled with enough water. The vessels are also equipped with central heating systems that provide hot water.

During the cruise, you can indulge in meals featuring typical Croatian cuisine. Premium Superior and Premium vessels offer a breakfast buffet, while Traditional Ensuite boats serve a continental breakfast. Lunch is a three-course meal with a salad bar and cheese plate on deluxe ships, while premium and traditional vessels serve a three-course lunch. Dinner is not included, allowing passengers to explore local restaurants.

The “captain’s dinner” is a weekly event hosted by the captain, creating an opportunity for guests and the crew to socialize. It is included in the deluxe and premium vessel categories. On Traditional Ensuite or Traditional vessels, guests can arrange and pay for the dinner during booking or at the event. The dress code for the “captain’s dinner” is Elegant/Smart Casual.

While our onboard kitchen has limited space, we strive to accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences. Please inform us of your dietary needs during the booking process, and our onboard chef will make arrangements to the best of their ability.

Bringing and consuming your own drinks on the ship is not allowed. However, various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase from the ship’s salon, which functions as a restaurant, living room, and bar. If your preferred drink is not available at the moment, kindly notify the crew, and they will endeavor to procure it for you at the next stop.

The onboard bar accepts payments for drinks in Euros. At the end of the trip, guests receive a report showing the total amount spent on drinks, which can be settled during the checkout process. Credit card payments are also accepted on deluxe and premium vessels.

Explore the Croatian islands of Vis, Hvar and Korcula under sail with luxury yacht Kairos.

Your luxury sailing holiday begins in the Croatian city of Trogir. Known for its mix of Renaissance, baroque and Romanesque buildings, the old part of this medieval city lies on a small island connected to the mainland and the island of Čiovo by historic bridges.

A lot of the original medieval town and city wall remains intact, providing a beautiful backdrop for boarding Kairos. From Trogir, you will sail and visit secluded bays, traditional coastal towns, national parks and spectacular waterfalls.

Your Sailing Area

Offering a quieter but equally as beautiful side to the Mediterranean that so far seems little touched by the booming tourist trade, exploring the coast and islands of Croatia is certainly best done by boat. From ancient harbour cities shrouded in impressively thick old town walls to spectacular bays for remote anchorages in crystal clear waters and fair winds, sailing in Croatia has something for everyone. With easy access from UK airports, you can fly from London and relax on board in as little as 4 hours. This sailing adventure on Kairos is perfect for those looking for a little escapism, relaxation, new experiences, stunning landscapes, and 5* service onboard!

As with all sailing holidays, the itinerary is not set until closer to the time but be assured that this cruise will see you exploring the magnificent coastline of the Adriatic Sea and the Croatian coastal towns and islands of Hvar, Korcula, Vis Brac.

The Croatian Islands

A slightly livelier island, Hvar is known for its natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant nightlife. One of the lesser-known but equally charming destinations on the island is Palmizana, a small island located just off the coast of Hvar. Palmizana is a hidden gem that boasts turquoise waters, lush greenery, and several secluded beaches. Palmizana is also home to a botanical garden that features exotic plants from all over the world – it’s well worth a visit!

Nestled in the heart of the city, the old town of the island of Vic is a breathtakingly charming and picturesque area with an impressive array of architectural wonders. Stroll down narrow, winding streets lined with centuries-old buildings featuring stunning medieval architecture. The cobblestoned streets add an extra layer of charm to the already enchanting atmosphere of this place.

The old town is also home to a myriad of shops, cafes, and restaurants that offer visitors the chance to taste the rich and tantalizing flavours of local cuisine and drinks. From savoury soups and stews to sweet pastries and desserts, there’s something to satisfy every palate.

Korcula is well-known due to its rich history, stunning beaches, and clear waters that attract visitors from all around the world. The island is home to charming medieval towns, such as Korcula Town, where tourists can wander through narrow streets, admire historic buildings, and relax in picturesque squares. Additionally, the island is famous for its delicious local cuisine, especially fresh seafood, which is a must-try for all visitors.

All voyages for Kairós

Guest berths: 16 Rig: Bermuda Schooner

Offering guests a sailing holiday experience with luxury at the heart of everything she does, Kairós is a purpose-built charter vessel designed with the beautifully elegant lines of a classic boat. Spending her winters exploring Cape Verde , Kairos moves into the Med for the summer, offering sailing holidays in Croatia , Corfu and Italy.

This beautiful luxurious schooner was designed by Klaus Röder in 2007, who based his design on a classic yacht whilst keeping up with the modern-day schooners, built for performance sailing and guest comfort. Kairós offers berths for up to 16 guests, a total of six private en-suite double cabins with full walk-in shower cubicles, one twin cabin with a small wet room ensuite, and one small double cabin with a small wet room ensuite; these private cabins all have to air-condition. The well-appointed deckhouse has its very own small bar whilst below decks offers still more space to relax, from the saloon with its plasma TV to its very own library for relaxing while underway.

Built with luxury in mind, the outline on the deck is of teak and mahogany with plenty of space to sunbathe, read a book and enjoy the views. All the sails are electronically retractable, so there is no need to “learn the ropes” here! The crew are, however, more than happy for guests to get involved with the operation and sailing of Kairós as much as they would like!

An admiralty ladder provides the perfect place to jump off into the warm Mediterranean waters, have a swim and climb back aboard with ease. Kairós also offers her guests the option of using her water skiing, wakeboard, tube riding and snorkelling equipment!

The professional crew consists of the Skipper, first mate, mechanic, bosun, cook and two stewards, so you will most certainly be looked after during your time aboard Kairós.

Cabins explained : Deluxe Cabin: This cabin has one large double bed and an ensuite with a walk-in shower cubical. Twin Cabin:   This cabin has two twin bunk berths with an ensuite toilet and shower wet room. Small Double Cabin:  This cabin has one small double bed and an ensuite toilet and shower wet room. It is suitable for solo travellers or two young guests.

Life on board

Our sailing holidays on board Kairós are ones of luxury, style and comfort while exploring sunshine destinations and unforgettable locations. A purpose-built charter vessel, Kairós was designed with the elegant sailing lines of a traditional classic boat and is perfect for couples or multi-generational families looking for a luxury adventure on the water.

Authentic Sailing Fun

Sailing with Kairós is certainly one of comfort and relaxation. Think of a boutique, intimate, classic sailing experience where nothing is too much trouble. Her dedicated and professional crew are highly trained and well-versed in a smooth sailing operation.

She has an impressive sail area, and her rig is electronically operated with retractable sails, so there is no need to “learn the ropes” here! That being said, traditional pin and tails are still available if guests want a taste of authentic sailing.

Although there is less focus on the “hands-on” sailing of Kairós , the Captain and crew offer interesting sailing talks and information briefs for guests during the voyage. Learn about the history of the boat, its sailing terms and even take a tour of the engine room if you fancy! Understanding these elegant classic vessels and feeling their power with the wind is truly an unforgettable experience.

Kairos meal onboard

Sleeping and Relaxation

Every space on Kairós is considered with the guests at the forefront of all design. From the spacious saloon, private ensuite cabins clad in tropical wood to the sweeping open decks with plenty of sun lounging spaces – the boat is certainly oozing 5* luxury.

The generously proportioned cabins have plenty of luggage storage, full-size domestic showers and air conditioning units. Kairós has six double cabins and two smaller twin bunks. All bedding, towels and a robe per person are included in the ticket price. The winds of the sea name each cabin, and this matches the allocated swim towel set for guests, so if you leave it drying on deck, a member of the crew will deliver it back to your cabin when dry.

Daily cabin service is also part of the offering. A member of the crew will make your bed and freshen up your bathroom every day and if you want a towel change or full cabin clean, just leave the relevant sign on the cabin door!

Kairos guests jumping

Eating and Entertainment

Although the day is punctuated by meal times, you certainly don’t feel like you’re running on a schedule. The relaxed nature of both the boat and the crew gives a perfect balance.

Depending on the voyage location, the daily routine can change and is flexible, depending on the wishes of the group. Perhaps sit back and relax as the crew sets sails to another remote anchorage to enjoy a freshly cooked lunch and the onboard water toys! Or spend the morning swimming in a secluded bay or exploring an ancient port city before setting sail to a new location.

Start the day with a rich buffet-style breakfast, then a light 2-course lunch at noon, coffee, tea, and cake in the afternoon, before finishing the day with a freshly cooked dinner. For every voyage on Kairós, guests enjoy a meal ashore at their own expense to really immerse themselves in the local culture and cuisine. Guests tend to go off in their own groups, but sometimes the crew can join in if guests are unsure of the best spots!

Depending on the mood of the group, the crew can arrange some light-hearted entertainment too – from local musicians over dinner to a friendly on-board music quiz (which is always amusing with international guests!) or even a wine-tasting session (at an extra cost).

Guests reading and relaxing on deck of Kairos

For those water lovers with a sense of adventure, Kairós has many water-sport activities and equipment available for guests. Adult-size snorkelling equipment is free for guests to use. Water-skiing, wakeboarding and tube riding are all chargeable once on board. Kairós offers this at a moderate price and suggests an average of 10% of the voyage price to serve as a guide for consumption. The onboard currency is EUROS, and guests can open an on-board account, which can be paid at the end of their voyage.

Kairos has plenty of storage space in every cabin but please consider bringing your items in a soft suitcase or bag as hard cases can be harder to store in your cabin. We recommend a travelling light principal with lots of lightweight, easy-drying layers. Below is a list of recommended items. These are not mandatory, and those who have sailed before may have their preferences!

The dress code is always casual – our only request is not to wear swimsuits at mealtimes!

  • Light shoes/trainers (with good grip)

  • Lightweight clothes ( t-shirts, shorts, trousers, dresses, cardigans etc )

'Access to hidden-gem ports': Why this luxury yacht is the best option for beach lovers

“This is your yacht, to do with as you please,” Captain Rob O’Leary told guests of the Emerald Sakara , the second luxury superyacht from Emerald Cruises. “We have an international crew from 21 different nations, and we are all here for you.”

I was on the maiden voyage of the 360-foot Sakara, a December 2023 sailing with the added glamor of a Champagne christening in San Juan, Puerto Rico, led by the ship’s godmother, Kelly Craighead. She is president of Cruise Lines International Association, the industry’s leading trade organization.

“Sakara” is a Sanskrit word meaning “thoughts become things” – a fitting name, given the thought that went into the ship’s chic design. And our itinerary for the week couldn’t be more yacht-like – an island-hopping experience in the West Indies, stopping in out-of-the-way ports that larger cruise ships can’t manage. And while some smaller boats can feel rocky, the Sakara’s stabilizers keep the ship on an even keel.

Are luxury cruise ships worth the money? We did the math for Silversea's Silver Nova.

With just 100 guests and 76 crew, the Sakara is part of the larger trend in cruising: smaller ships that cater to vacationers who want the style and feel of a yacht, and the intimate service that accompanies that, with the amenities of a larger ship. Craighead said small-ship cruises offer “luxury at a great value, access to hidden-gem ports and unique features like marinas for water activities directly off the ship. These small ships can even be chartered for your own amazing, private yacht experience.”

After departing from San Juan, the Sakara reached the Puerto Rican island of Culebra in a few hours, just 20 miles off the coast. We hopped in a taxi van at the port to reach the pristine waters of Flamenco Beach, which consistently makes the world’s top 10 lists. It was a fall-asleep-on-the-sand kind of day, under brightly colored umbrellas, with multiple trips to the canteen for french fries.

“I hope you enjoyed Culebra today because it’s quite hard to get in, through a very narrow channel,” O’Leary said at a supper-hour briefing.

The next day, we stopped at the nearby island of Vieques, which is filled with wild horses – about 2,000 of them – most of which are fully accustomed to the photo op. We docked at Esperanza Bay and wandered the waterfront. Jeeps or ATVs were available to rent for those who wanted to beach-hop, but we settled into the sand at Sun Bay. And when we sailed into Cruz Bay on the U.S. Virgin Island of St. John the next day, there were yachts and catamarans everywhere – and the Sakara fit right in.

The crew outdid itself the next day at White Bay Beach on Jost Van Dyke, the smallest of the British Virgin Islands. A barbecue feast awaited us, along with beach loungers, steel drum entertainment, and all the paddles and water toys from the ship. Later, we wandered down the beach to find a young yacht crowd, groups of friends who have rented their boats, all knee-deep in their mojitos.

“I get a real kick out of driving the Emerald Sakara into St. Barths, muscling in and anchoring next to all the other superyachts,” O’Leary said. “It looks good in the pictures.” A stop there brought a snorkeling excursion, a bit of high-end shopping and a few rosé-soaked hours on Plage de Saline.

Back on board, the creature comforts of the Sakara included plenty of outdoor space to connect with the ocean, a small infinity pool, a full-service spa and a large, elegant dining room and terrace. It’s all part of the cushy yacht lifestyle.

The ship will spend the summer and fall cruising the Mediterranean Sea – heading for the French and Italian rivieras, Croatia and Greece – with eight-day itineraries from $5,100. The Emerald Sakara will be back in the Caribbean next December, with eight-day cruises starting at $4,100.

Cruise Croatia Opens Bookings for 2025 Small-Ship Voyages

Luxury yacht operator Cruise Croatia will offer 105 voyages next year, with five vessels deploying from May through October.

The small-ship line opened bookings for its 2025 line-up this week, which includes 7-night sailings between Split and Dubrovnik along the Dalmatian Coast. Travelers can enjoy visits to destinations like Trogir, Hvar, Korcula and Vis, plus Mljet and Krka national parks.

In 2025, Cruise Croatia will offer a new “Signature” itinerary aboard the 36-passenger M/S My Wish. Departing June 21 and September 20, the vessel will sail from Split to Opatija, with stops at Sibenik, Zadar, Losinj, Krk and Rab along the way. The itinerary also includes Plitvice Lakes.

“With five luxury ships in operation, we have an unbeatable choice for customers to visit the most popular destinations in Croatia, as well as stunning, undiscovered hideaways only accessible via smaller vessels,” says Graham Carter, co-founder and chief commercial officer at Cruise Croatia.

Travelers who book any May 2025 sailing before June 30 can enjoy special savings and perks, including a €75 (roughly $80) per cabin bar credit and a three-course traditional Croatian village dinner experience in Korcula.

When travelers book groups of 10 people or more, they’ll receive a 5 percent discount on the cruise fare, plus a €50 ($53) per person onboard credit. The trip organizer gets 50 percent of their fare.

Cruise Croatia announces 2025 small-ship cruising lineup

' src=

Specialist small-ship cruise line Cruise Croatia has launched its 2025 small-ship cruising program, with 105 guaranteed seven-night departures available throughout the season. The luxury yacht operator will deploy five vessels across the season, with departures from early May to mid-October next year.

The itineraries, available to book now, sail between Split and Dubrovnik, taking in the spectacular Dalmatian coast. Ports of call include well-known favorites such as the medieval towns of Trogir and Hvar, alongside lesser-known, hidden gems such as Korcula, Vis, and the national parks of Mljet and Krka.

In addition to the existing lineup, the 2025 season features a new Signature Croatia Hidden Gems Cruise. The seven-night voyage will sail from Split to Opatija, on June 21 and September 20, 2025, on the 36-passenger M/S My Wish. The cruise will visit hidden gems like Sibenik, Zadar, and undiscovered islands such as Losinj, Krk, and Rab. This itinerary will also take guests to the magnificent Plitvice Lakes with its seemingly endless waterfalls.

Cruise Croatia is also running other favorites, like the Signature Opatija to Dubrovnik cruise, which takes in the full length of the Croatian coastline. This route has proved popular with guests looking to enjoy sailing through four different archipelagos, namely the Kvarner Islands, Kornati Islands, Pakleni Islands, and the Elaphiti Islands, each offering guests a different landscape and experience.

“With five luxury ships in operation, we have an unbeatable choice for customers to visit the most popular destinations in Croatia, as well as stunning, undiscovered hideaways only accessible via smaller vessels,” said Graham Carter, co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer at Cruise Croatia.

To celebrate the launch of its upcoming itineraries, Cruise Croatia is offering €75 per cabin bar credit and a three-course traditional Croatian village dinner experience in Korcula for any May 2025 departure booked by June 30, 2024. Plus, for group bookings of 10 or more, guests will receive a 5% reduction in cabin costs, alongside €50 per person in onboard credit. The group organizer will also receive a 50% savings on their cabin cost.

Each sailing includes sea-view accommodation; breakfast, lunch, and two on-board dinners; daily excursions including guided tours, wine tasting, and park entrance; use of water toys; on-board educative lectures; private airport transfers in Croatia on arrival and departure and a privilege card offering exclusive rates at restaurants on shore. Rates start at $1975 per person.

Ten of the best small-ship cruises

Not a fan of mega-ships our cruise expert has picked the best boutique sailings to keep things exclusive and adventurous.

Nassau, Bahamas

T here’s something special about small-ship cruising. You’ll feel a deeper connection to the sea, and there’s a certain pleasure from being docked in chic little ports among the superyachts or anchored in a remote bay far from the crowds. Of course, there won’t be Broadway shows and a choice of restaurants, but simplicity is all part of the appeal. Here are ten of the best small-ship cruises for this year and next.

This article contains affiliate links, which can earn us revenue

1. Authentic Caribbean

Le Ponant sailing yacht

Explore some of the tiniest islands in the Caribbean on Ponant’s smallest ship: the swish, recently refurbished sailing yacht Le Ponant, which carries just 32 passengers. Sail from Marigot on St Martin to Prickly Pear Cays on Anguilla, St Barts, Nevis, Falmouth Bay on Antigua, Barbuda and the chic Îles des Saintes in Guadeloupe — in other words some of the most seductive islands in the region. On board you can expect the fine dining and service that comes from the ship’s partnership with Relais & Châteaux. Details Seven nights’ all-inclusive from £5,550pp, including excursions, departing on March 8, 2025 (uk.ponant.com). Fly to St Maarten and back from Guadeloupe

2. Croatia under sail

Kairos

Explore Croatia in detail on the classic schooner Kairos, which sails out of medieval Trogir to Vis, Hvar and Korcula, as well as lesser-known islands and anchorages, depending on wind speed and direction. With just 16 passengers and seven crew on board, this is small-ship luxury at its best — and you don’t have to help to sail the boat unless you want to do so. When you’re at anchor, jump straight into the warm Adriatic. Evenings are spent either in lively towns or anchored in remote bays. Details Seven nights’ full board from £3,025pp, departing on August 10 (venturesailholidays.com). Fly to Split

3. Butlers in the Bahamas

The Bahamas

This 12-night cruise zigzags from New York to Bermuda for an overnight stay, through the Bahamian islands of San Salvador, Exuma and Honeymoon Harbour on tiny Gun Cay, then on to Miami before ending back in Nassau. Expect luxury all the way, with a butler service, an open bar and helicopter trips, plus a submarine and water toys to play on when the ship’s marina platform is down, which is often. Scenic Eclipse carries just 228 passengers, with the vibe of a swish private yacht in its glossy lounges and smart, high-ceilinged cabins. Details Twelve nights’ all-inclusive from £6,914pp, including flights, private transfers, tips, wi-fi and excursions, departing on October 12 (scenic.co.uk)

4. turkey as you please.

Salamander

Muster a group of 12 and you can charter a gulet for a blissful week exploring the Turquoise Coast of Turkey. Sailing from Bodrum, you’ll travel on the gleaming wooden Salamander, which comes with a crew of four, including a chef. Visit pretty fishing villages and drop anchor in pine-scented bays surrounded by green mountains for swimming off the boat, as well as playing on the water toys. On board are six en suite cabins and plenty of lounging space on deck, where you’ll also have meals. Details Seven nights’ full board (excluding two dinners) from £22,870 for 12, including transfers and house wine, departing on June 24 (salamandervoyages.com). Fly to Bodrum

5. New year in the Seychelles

Praslin

Spend more than a week over the new year pottering around the dreamy Seychelles on Emerald Cruises’ sleek, 100-passenger Azzurra, visiting Praslin; rugged Curieuse, home to Aldabra giant tortoises; La Digue, location of the much-photographed Anse Source d’Argent beach; and Aride Island Nature Reserve, a breeding site for seabirds. You can snorkel and paddleboard off the back of the ship, which has a distinct superyacht feel thanks to an infinity pool and lovely alfresco dining area. Details Seven nights’ all-inclusive from £5,445pp, including flights, tips, wi-fi and some activities, departing on December 29 ( emeraldcruises.co.uk )

• Ten river cruises for adventurous travellers

6. Amazon adventure

A jaguar in the Amazon rainforest

Trace the northeast coastline of South America on a 19-night expedition on Swan Hellenic’s smart SH Vega, which carries 158 passengers. You’ll start in Barbados and head to Trinidad, but this is no ordinary Caribbean cruise — the next stop is Georgetown in Guyana, then it’s the volcanic Salvation Islands, a former penal colony off the coast of French Guiana now returned to nature. From the Brazilian town of Iquiqui you’ll head into the Amazon rainforest in search of jaguars and pink river dolphins. While in Brazil there’s also a chance to see the rippling white sand dunes ofLençois Maranhenses National Park and the Unesco world heritage town of Olinda before arriving in colourful Bahia. Details Nineteen nights’ all-inclusive from £6,980pp including wi-fi, taxes, excursions and a night in Barbados, departing on October 12, 2025 (swanhellenic.com). Fly to Barbados

7. Maritime history on east-coast US

Sag Harbor

Sail from Boston to New York City on American Cruise Lines’ 90-passenger American Independence, built for the shallow inlets and rivers of the US east coast. You’ll learn about the history of Boston and call at arty, boho coastal towns packed with maritime history. Plymouth was the first pilgrim settlement, while yachtie Newport is known for its opulent seaside estates and lobster. Old Saybrook, settled in 1635, is one of oldest towns in Connecticut, while Sag Harbor is famed for its art galleries and endless beaches. Details Seven nights’ all-inclusive from £5,999pp, including flights, excursions and a night in a hotel pre-cruise, departing on September 29 (fredholidays.co.uk)

8. Tall ship Atlantic crossing

Star Flyer

Crossing the Atlantic under sail is special; you’ll have days to commune with the ocean, leaving the stresses of everyday life behind. Join the 170-passenger tall ship Star Flyer in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria — the city from which Columbus set sail in 1492. There’s a stop at the Canary island of La Gomera, then 13 days at sea as you head west to the Tropics, making landfall at St Maarten. On board you can help the crew with the sails, splash around in the pool, have a Thai massage and — on this sailing, which has a yoga theme — practise your sun salutations. Details Fifteen nights’ full board from £2,015pp, departing on November 15 (starclippers.co.uk). Fly to Gran Canaria and back from St Maarten

9. Tempting Tahiti

Moorea

Discover Tahiti in all its high-definition beauty on the small ship Star Breeze, which carries 312 and is based in Papeete. You’ll visit dreamy islands including Bora Bora, Huahine, Moorea and Raiatea on a seven-night meander through French Polynesia, with swimming in turquoise lagoons, rainforest hikes and visits to vanilla plantations and ancient sacred sites on the agenda. One night there’s a special dinner on a private island, followed by a fire-dancing display under the stars. Details Seven nights’ all-inclusive from £6,200pp, including flights and a night in a hotel pre-cruise, departing on October 17 (windstarcruises.com; book by June 30)

10. Wellness in the Cyclades

Milos

Potter round the lesser-visited Greek islands of the Cyclades on the 50-passenger Elysium, a tiny ship that can anchor in smaller harbours, away from the mainstream cruise ships. There’s an emphasis on healthy Greek food for meals onboard, and you can choose the most inviting taverna in town for either lunch or dinner each day. A wellness coach travels on every cruise to help balance mind and body, with yoga, meditation and hiking on offer. On a seven-night Divine Cyclades cruise you’ll sail from Athens and visit islands including Delos, Naxos, Milos, Serifos and Kythnos, as well as big-hitters such as Santorini and Ios. Details Seven nights’ half-board from £2,530pp, departing on September 7 (elixir.cruises). Fly to Athens
