cruise singapore halal food

Updated on 2 February.

Dream Cruises has been the go-to cruise liner for Muslims in the Asia Pacific for a couple of years now because of its Halal-certified kitchen. The liner is taking it a step further by getting Muslim-Friendly certification and rating. The United World Halal Development (UNWHD) has worked with World Dream Cruise to make it Asia Pacific’s First Halal-Friendly Cruise Ship. Based on the facilities available for Muslims on the cruise ship, CrescentRating has awarded it a Crescent Rating of 5 and is the first cruise liner to receive a rating.

The  CrescentRating system  rates the overall Halal-friendliness of cruises on a scale of one to seven - with one being the lowest rating and seven being the highest. A rating of 5 is awarded to cruise ships that are able to provide facilities/services such as halal-certified food, provide prayer information & facilities, and have bidets in the washrooms.

Genting Dream to sail again on June 15, fitted with first internationally halal-certified kitchen on cruise ship

cruise singapore halal food

SINGAPORE - After a change in management, Genting Dream will set sail on its maiden voyage on Wednesday night (June 15)  with new features, including the world's first internationally halal-certified kitchen on a cruise liner.

For its first trip, a three-day, two-night cruise to nowhere, the ship will sail at half-capacity to ensure smooth operations. Along with the crew, this means close to 3,000 individuals on board.

"It's important to start the new brand correctly," said Mr Michael Goh, president and head of international sales of Resorts World Cruises, in an exclusive interview with The Straits Times.

"So for the first few cruises, we're not looking at filling up the ship... Instead, we're trying to manage it at 50 per cent to make sure our guests get the full experience."

The first sailing comes after a troubled few months at the start of the year, when Dream Cruises, the ship's then owner, applied to be wound up in February after its parent company, Genting Hong Kong, folded.

It stopped operating its vessel, World Dream, in Singapore, leaving thousands of customers in the lurch and demanding refunds.

Resorts World Cruises - owned by Malaysian tycoon Lim Kok Thay - later stepped in to offer credits to affected customers.

Bookings for cruises aboard Genting Dream kicked off on May 18.

Despite the hiccups, there has already been a strong response from both the domestic and international markets.

"Besides the domestic response, we've been getting a very good response from the overseas market... for example, we got 22,000 cabin bookings from India alone within less than three weeks of announcing (our relaunch)," added Mr Goh.

As part of the relaunch, Genting Dream has introduced some new features on board.

The ship is now the first OIC/SMIIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation/ Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standard halal-friendly cruise ship in the world and will serve farm-to-fork halal meals out of a certified kitchen on board.

Halal food items will take up some sections of the buffet spread in one of the ship's biggest restaurants, The Lido, which has more than 500 seats.

"The halal certification was really important for us to get because we want to cater to different segments of the business... It is something that our Muslim passengers consider before they pick the brands (they cruise with) or the destinations," noted Mr Goh.

"We know that this is an important market as in South-east Asia alone. More than 60 per cent of the population is Muslim."

"But more importantly, it's not just Muslims who enjoy halal food... We could introduce this cuisine to a wider audience," he added.

Besides the new dining offerings, entertainment options on board have also been refreshed.

There will be more resort-style offerings throughout the day, from family-friendly games on the pool deck to Latin-themed nights at Tributes bar and sunset or night foam parties at the splash pool at Zouk Beach club.

In the coming months, Genting Dream is going full steam ahead with trips to international destinations.

Last week, it announced that  its cruises will call at Bintan and Batam from July 1, as well as Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Penang from July 3.

It also plans to include more popular destinations such as Phuket, Krabi and Bali as early as October.

First Muslim-friendly cruise set for ‘seacation’ in Singapore

Author Profile Image

BY Staff Writer

SINGAPORE - Singapore now has its first Muslim-friendly “seacation”.

World Dream, one of the services from Genting Cruise Lines’ Dream Cruises brand, follows the halal tourism guidelines set out by the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC). It is certified by Singapore-based United World Halal Development.

The cruise is also officially rated by halal travel authority Crescent Rating.

The Singapore-based Muslim-friendly travel authority told Salaam Gateway this is the first time it is rating a cruise service.

“Based on the services they (World Dream Cruise) offer (halal-certified food, prayer facilities etc), they are rated Crescent Rating 5,” Crescent Rating CEO Fazal Bahardeen told Salaam Gateway.

The company rates travel and hospitality services – such as hotels and restaurants –  based on availability of halal food, prayer facilities, services during Ramadan, and level of non-halal activities, as well as level of Muslim-friendliness that rank from Helpful (Crescent Rating 1, 2, 3), Accommodates (4, 5) to Specialised (6,7). Seven is the highest rating, said Fazal.

World Dream made her Singapore homeport debut on November 6. It offers two and three-night trips. A spokesperson for Genting Cruise Lines told Salaam Gateway the ship has a halal-certified central kitchen with halal-certified ingredients for halal cuisine, prayer room with access to Quran, prayer mats, and compass to locate the qibla. It will also cater to Ramadan guests with suhoor and iftar menus.

There have already been cruises in the Asia Pacific region serving halal food but World Dream is the first to embrace a more holistic Muslim-friendly approach beyond just having a halal-certified kitchen, said Fazal.

“The “halal/Muslim-friendly cruises” concept has been talked about since a few years now. It has been getting more and more interest from Muslims pre-COVID. This growing interest from Muslims encouraged some cruises to have halal-certified kitchens,” said the Crescent Rating CEO.

“We are now seeing the start of the next phase of development of Muslim-friendly cruises, with companies like Dream Cruises taking more steps to make it more Muslim-friendly.”

Singaporeans have turned to seacations as international leisure travel remains out of reach.

However, just this week a passenger on the Royal Caribbean “cruise to nowhere” was reported to have tested positive for the COVID-19, forcing the ship to turn back to shore a day early for the 2,000 passengers. The affected COVID passenger went on to test negative three times for the novel coronavirus.

Dream Cruises pointed Salaam Gateway to its COVID-19 preventive measures to meet local authorities’ health and safety protocols. Mandatory COVID-19 antigen rapid tests costing 60 Singapore dollars each will be conducted on all guests before embarkation.

As the travel sector in Singapore continues to tread extra cautiously, Fazal says there’s “definitely” a growth market in the Muslim-friendly cruise niche. “How big is the market projections and how COVID-19 will impact that growth in the medium-term is something we are planning to look at as part of a future report on this segment,” he added.

Crescent Rating in July forecasted three recovery scenarios for the ASEAN travel sector. “The “Plausible scenario” is looking like a realistic scenario currently. In this scenario we projected the ASEAN travel market recovering to 71% of 2019 levels by mid-2022. Having said that, we also plotted a “Pessimistic scenario” where ASEAN travel will only recover to 31% of 2019 levels by the end of 2022. We are still not out of the woods for this “Pessimistic scenario”, said Fazal.

Globally, the International Air Transport Association believes things could look up in 2021 , with a “vaccine bump” expected during the fourth quarter. Boston Consulting Group sees clearer skies may be ahead in 2021 but predicts travel overall won’t rebound to 2019 levels until 2023 or 2024 .

Cruise Lines That Serve Halal Food

  • by halaltouring
  • April 26, 2023

cruise singapore halal food

There are currently more than 300 cruise ships in operation worldwide. The idea that cruise ships might be used for more than just business and transportation purposes didn’t seem all that far-fetched as people learned how much fun a holiday at sea could be.

With millions of passengers each year, cruising has developed a thriving sector in the tourism business. Due to rising consumer demand, there is now a market for vacation cruises.

Like everyone else, many Muslims take vacations on cruise ships, so Halal food has to be offered. The diversity of the passengers grew over time, making it more hospitable to individuals from many ethnic groups, which inevitably led to a growth in the number of people having vacations on the water.

Cruise Offering For Everyone

cruise singapore halal food

As the cruise business expanded more quickly than ever before and ethnic diversity rose, cruise companies began offering services for persons with specific requirements. Since cruise companies offer more than just transportation, their recreational offerings must be appealing to virtually everyone, which brings us to the subject of food!

Related: Cruise With Confidence

The nicest elements of any travel are without a doubt the food and getting to know different cultures. Without question, cruises add to that experience.

halal food options

The majority of cruise lines offer meals that are suitable for vegan, kosher, halal, and vegetarian diets. Everyone should be able to access special diets wherever, and cruise companies have assumed this responsibility to ensure this as well as a more enjoyable dining experience on cruise lines. The good news is halal food is now being served on many cruise ships, and some of them have even been certified.

Cruise Lines Offering Halal Food

Cruise lines must purchase specialized ingredients. They have a limited supply that can only be transported onboard in specific ports. So inform the travel agency or cruise line of your dietary restrictions as soon as you make your reservation. For most lines, food requests must be made 45 to 90 days in advance; get in touch with the line’s accessible travel department. Foods that are halal are becoming more accessible, so no one needs to restrict themselves while on vacation.

Below are the cruise lines that offer halal alternatives on the lunch and dinner menus:

Genting Dream Cruises (Depart From Singapore)

The new Genting Dream Cruise from Resorts World Cruises is the first cruise ship in the world to include a halal-certified kitchen. The first OIC/SMIIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation/ Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standard halal-friendly cruise ship.

Royal Caribbean International

Exclusively serves Halal meat on cruises leaving from Singapore and Dubai. Only the main dining area serves meat that is halal. They provide Halal meat, either beef (steak) or poultry, not Halal “meals.” Fill out the ‘special needs’ form to request halal meat 90 days before sailing.

Disney Cruise

For Halal meals, the request has to be submitted at least 5 weeks prior to the sail date. Dietary requests notated on your reservation will not be automatically applied at our quick-service meal locations or through in-room dining. Once on board the ship, please be sure to:

  • Visit the onboard dining session that is available on the day of embarkation.
  • Even if you mentioned it while making a reservation, please let the dining team know when placing an order at any of their dining locations.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises offer Halal meals on board all ships in its fleet, which represents Celebrity Cruises in the Middle East. The luxury cruise line has made special efforts to introduce Halal meals in the main dining room.

Departing Cruises From The Middle East

Halal food will be served in all cruise line dining outlets throughout the ship if departing from the Middle East.

Asia/Far East-Departing Cruises

Cruises departing from Far East Asia locations like Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia have halal food options. Please check with the cruise line in advance before booking.

Please Note: Although every effort has been made to provide complete and accurate information, halaltouring assumes no liability for any information error or takes responsibility for halal food served on cruises.

Fatehah  ‱  Jan 04, 2019

Gone are the days when cruises used to mean ‘eat and sleep on repeat’. Genting Dream gives cruising a whole new meaning with its exciting array of activities and facilities onboard! There’s no room for boredom here, as there is just so much to do ?

Credit:  giphy

From ziplining to an outdoor movie experience, this cruise is set to blow you away. To help you make the best of your experience, we’ve gathered 14 essential tips for the best cruise vacay ever â˜ș

P.S. Set sail on Genting Dream from SGD219 per person for a 2-night Kuala Lumpur cruise. The package includes your room, meals onboard and a string of activities you wouldn’t want to miss out on!

[inlinewidget id=58629]

1. Board early

The cruise remains docked for a few hours before it actually sets sail, but don’t wait till right till the last boarding call to get on! You can start enjoying the myriad of facilities and activities onboard once you board, so we highly recommend boarding the cruise as early as you can.

cruise singapore halal food

Boarding time differs according to the cruise and destination, so do check your cruise ticket prior to your trip!

2. Download the Dream Cruises app

Activities and timings differ according to the cruise, which is why having the schedule at your fingertips is super crucial. And no, we don’t mean that you have to carry around the hardcopy schedule? There’s no need for that when everything is available on the Dream Cruises app!

cruise singapore halal food

Download the app before you board! You can check out the cruise schedule and book your seats for performances all in one place with this app ? And yes, we know how important it is to stay connected to your social media apps even during the cruise. That’s why we recommend purchasing your Wi-Fi on the app!

3. Get a balcony stateroom

cruise singapore halal food

Having a comfortable and spacious room is a must when you travel. And the balcony stateroom is just that! We loved the room’s plush bedding and well-equipped washroom. There’s even a pull-out sofa that can fit an extra person.

cruise singapore halal food

Our favourite part of the cabin was the cosy balcony! From the comfort of our cabin, we could enjoy the beautiful ocean view and nothing comes quite close to that experience ?

P.S. Elevate your cruise experience by staying in The Palace! Your exclusive all-suite accommodation is on the upper decks of the cruise. You will experience top level hospitality from the dedicated European-style butler concierge service, and enjoy exclusive privileges!

4. Savour yummy halal-certified food

cruise singapore halal food

What truly sets Genting Dream apart from other cruises is the halal-certified food served onboard! Yes, this is the only cruise in Asia which has JAKIM halal-certified food ? Head to The Lido and savour a wide array of yummy food up to 3 times a day. The buffet spread is made up of a soup corner, mains and desserts and we especially enjoyed how much seafood there was.

Do note that only a section of the restaurant is halal-certified! No pork or lard is served in the whole restaurant though.

cruise singapore halal food

On the first night, we were even treated to a special BBQ dinner in addition to the normal buffet spread. From sirloin steak to grilled butter prawns, the fresh and mouth-watering seafood made it a dinner to remember ?

Note: BBQ dinners vary with cruises. This BBQ dinner is not halal-certified, but we’ve confirmed with the chef onboard that the spread is from halal sources. Do dine at your own discretion!

5. Scream your heart out on the slides

cruise singapore halal food

Time to put all the energy you gained from the food to good use? Genting Dream’s giant waterslide park is every thrill-seeker’s dream come true. There are 6 waterslides of varying intensities, so take your pick! We personally felt the purple slide was the most thrilling, followed by the yellow slide next to it. But the blue slide tops the list as it’s the only one with a swirling tube in the middle!

6. Overcome your fear of heights

cruise singapore halal food

Don’t let your thrilling adventure stop at the slides! Challenge yourself at the Rope Course, where you will face your fear of heights head-on by walking on an outdoor plank 18 decks above the sea. Your reward comes at the end as you glide across the ocean on a 35m zipline ? This one’s definitely not for the faint-hearted.

cruise singapore halal food

Seeking a challenge, but one that’s not too intense? The rock climbing wall is your answer! At first glance, the wall looked pretty short and we thought climbing it would be easy. But we quickly realized just how challenging it was going to be once we took our first step up ?

The professional instructors were really patient and helpful in guiding us though! The best part is that these activities are completely free ?

7. Bond over family-friendly activities

cruise singapore halal food

If you’re looking for activities to do together as a family, mini-golf would be a good place to start. Playing golf usually costs quite a bit of money but on this cruise, you have the chance to play for free! Get the whole family together for a friendly game of golf – with a gorgeous sea view â˜ș

cruise singapore halal food

Alternatively, head indoors for a game of bowling! This activity is chargeable (from $2 per game) but you’ll definitely enjoy chilling out with your loved ones ? Head here anytime from 1pm till late!

P.S. From just SGD 219 to Kuala Lumpur (2N), your dream cruise adventure awaits ! Bask in the comfort of a beautiful room, yummy meals onboard and endless activities on Genting Dream.

8. Watch a movie under the stars

cruise singapore halal food

Speaking of late-night activities
take your movie experience to a whole new level by watching it outdoors! As our cruise was Spiderman-themed, we had the chance to watch the Spider-man Homecoming movie. Lounge on the day beds and relax as you enjoy your favourite movie (with your favourite people!) under the stars â˜ș

P.S. Screenings differ according to cruises – do refer to your cruise schedule for the screenings and timings.

9. Book your show seats early

cruise singapore halal food

There’s so much to do and see on the cruise, but nothing quite tops the jaw-dropping performance of Sonio – A Tale of Two Dreams, a signature show onboard Genting Dream . We were blown away by the acrobatic and dance moves, singing and the incredible LED graphics! The performers are so talented that they left the whole audience gasping in disbelief ?

cruise singapore halal food

As show tickets are limited and available on a first come, first served basis, we highly recommend booking your seats before the show to avoid disappointment! Head to the Box Office onboard or book them via the Dream Cruises mobile app.

10. Take part in free classes

cruise singapore halal food

Take some free workout classes while you’re onboard! Exercise classes differ according to each cruise, but we managed to learn taichi on ours. The instructor was patient in guiding us through the warm-up exercises and the various taichi moves. We were surprised to have learnt so much during the short span of an hour?

There are also classes at Crystal Life Fitness if you’re up for learning some yoga, pilates and more! Classes are private and taught by professional trainers, so you can be assured that they will be tailored to your level of fitness. Do note that classes at Crystal Life Fitness are chargeable.

11. Work out (with a view!) at the 24-hour gym

cruise singapore halal food

Work out at your own pace and time, at the gym! Crystal Life Fitness is equipped with the newest and most innovative workout equipment. But the highlight of the gym is the gorgeous sea view. It’s not everyday you find a gym with such a breathtaking view, so you’d have to add this to your cruise bucket list ?

Note: The gym has a minimum age requirement of 16 years old.

12. Drop the kids off at Little Pandas Club

cruise singapore halal food

Looking to spend some alone time with your partner? Well, the Little Pandas Club is the perfect place to drop the kids off for a few hours. From arts and craft activities to Mario Kart games, the kids will be so occupied they won’t even notice you’re not there ?

cruise singapore halal food

Enjoy your time alone worry-free, as all the staff at the club are certified childcare professionals! Do note that entrance to the club is not included in your room package, but you can enjoy the first 2 hours free ?

13. Enjoy thematic activities and programmes onboard

cruise singapore halal food

During our cruise, we had the chance to take part in a Spider-man themed experience at sea thanks to Genting Dream’s collaboration with Sony Pictures. We even had the chance to meet and greet the man himself ?

cruise singapore halal food

Some of our favourite themed activities includes the Spider-man Velcro wall. We suited up in a Velcro costume (it was hard even walking in it!) and hopped on the inflatable to stick ourselves to the Velcro wall. From 4 th January onwards, be sure to look forward to the next themed experience - Monopoly festive fun at sea! ?

If you’re a fan of Sheila Majid or Warna FM DJs A B Shaik and Mariam Mas’od, here’s your chance to cruise with them! From SGD 630, book the 5N Surabaya – North Bali cruise (13 to 18 Jan 2019) to cruise with the Warna FM DJs. Experience a 60-min live concert by Sheila Majid when you book the 5N Penang – Phuket – Langkawi – Kuala Lumpur cruise (27 Jan to 1 Feb) cruise! You can enjoy SGD 100 credit onboard too.

14. Instagrammable spots for the perfect feed

cruise singapore halal food

And of course, your cruise would not be complete if you do not have any beautiful pictures to remember your experience onboard, right? ? Lucky for you, there are many instagrammable spots around the cruise! Head to Deck 19 Forward to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the entire ship. These cool-looking chairs are also perfect for the ‘gram ?

cruise singapore halal food

You wouldn’t want to miss snapping away at the jacuzzis overlooking the sea! There are many jacuzzis around the cruise but these are our favourite as they are a tad less crowded and boast a gorgeous view ?

Excited for your cruise already? You should be! With the wide variety of activities available and delectable halal-certified food, we thoroughly enjoyed our time onboard and bet you (and your loved ones!) will too ? Now that you have these essential tips in hand, it’s time to set sail on Genting Dream from SGD219 per person for a 2-night Kuala Lumpur cruise.

Which Cruise Lines have Halal Food?

Cruise lines often offer a huge variety of different foods from across the world, but many are left wondering if cruise ships offer halal food. While halal food is a common request among many cruisers, it can be sometimes be difficult to find halal food on a cruise. Some cruise ships have halal food readily available while others require that halal food be requested in advance. Keep reading to find out which cruise ships have halal food, which cruise ships have readily available halal food, and which cruise ships require advanced notice for halal food!

Royal Caribbean Cruise Halal Food

cruise singapore halal food

Halal food is only readily available on Royal Caribbean cruises under certain circumstances. If you are sailing from Dubai or Singapore, you can find halal meat readily available on your Royal Caribbean cruise. The halal meats available on Royal Caribbean cruises sailing from Singapore or Dubai are often beef or chicken.

If you are sailing on Royal Caribbean from a port that is not Dubai or Singapore, you must request halal meats with a Special Needs form. This form should be filled out and submitted to Royal Caribbean at least 90 days before your cruise sets sail. The Special Needs form is the only way to request halal meals on Royal Caribbean if you are not sailing out of Singapore or Dubai!

Norwegian Cruise Halal Food

cruise singapore halal food

Unfortunately, you can not find halal food readily available on Norwegian Cruises. However, Norwegian Cruises does have a dietary needs policy where you may be able to request halal food. Although it is worth noting that the dietary needs policy on Norwegian Cruise Lines does not specifically mention halal foods. However, previous passengers have claimed that they have been accommodated with halal meats like veal and chicken. Norwegian Cruise Lines requires that Dietary Needs Forms be submitted at least 30 days before your cruise sets sail.

Looking for more dining options on your next cruise?

Carnival Cruise Halal Food

cruise singapore halal food

You can only find halal food on certain Carnival Cruises and only by request. While Carnival claims to accommodate a variety of different diets, halal food is not explicitly stated as being available on most Carnival Cruise ships. However, Carnival claims to offer assistance with dietary restrictions as long as you make arrangements with before your cruise sets sail.

While halal food is not explicitly stated as being available on Carnival Cruises ships, Carnival does offer a handy program to help you determine what food to eat. Carnival offers a program called Menu Mates that allows for guests to input your dietary needs and receive a curated list of foods that fit your criteria! You can just input your dietary needs, like say halal food or maybe an allergy, and you will see all of the foods available on board that satisfy your requirements!

Halal Food on Celebrity Cruise

cruise singapore halal food

Not only can you find halal food on your Celebrity Cruise, but Celebrity Cruises also hosts one of the largest selections of halal food on a cruise ship! You can enjoy halal food on every single Celebrity Cruise ship! However, halal meat must be pre-ordered the night before or before your cruise sets sail. Although Celebrity requires that you pre-order halal food, there is also often a large variety of traditionally Middle Eastern foods available, many of which are halal.

Disney Cruise Halal Food

cruise singapore halal food

Like with Norwegian Cruises, Disney Cruises do not have halal food readily available but you can request halal food. Halal food can be easily requested through the Disney Cruise website on the ‘My Reservations’ page under the ‘Already Booked’ tab by completing the ‘Special Requests’ application. Alternatively, you could also submit your request by phone. No matter how you make your request for halal food, you must make your request at least 5 weeks before your Disney Cruise starts.

Additionally, halal versions of meals available in the Main Dining Room must be requested the night before. Disney Cruises often assign 1 or 2 servers that will stick with you throughout your cruise, so they may be able to help you out in selecting halal offerings along the way.

Halal Food on MSC Cruise

MSC Preziosa. White cruise ship alongside shipping containers.

Fitting with the trend of most other cruise lines in this article, you can order halal food on your next MSC Cruise only by request. To enjoy halal food on your next MSC Cruise, you must make a request with MSC at least 2 months before your cruise sets sail. MSC claims that any request made less than 30 days before your cruise starts may not be fulfilled, so make sure to get your request in early!

Halal meats offered on MSC Cruises are sourced from certified suppliers and kept separate from other meats on-board. However, all of the meals served on your cruise are prepared within the same kitchen. Halal food offerings on MSC Cruises often include dishes consisting of beef, lamb, or poultry.

While many of the major cruise lines do offer some form of halal food, it can take some planning to ensure that you are receiving the food you need. If halal food is a must for your next cruise, make sure to make arrangements before your cruise sets sail! While specific cruise lines like Royal Caribbean have halal food readily available when sailing out of ports like Singapore, the majority of cruise lines require that you make a special dietary request long before your cruise. Some cruise lines like Disney Cruises require your dietary request form 5 weeks before your cruise and Royal Caribbean requires your request for halal food 90 days before your cruise! If you know that you will require halal food for your next cruise, make sure to plan ahead!

A variety of halal food in Singapore you can choose from when visiting Marina Bay Sands

Singapore Foodie Guide

Halal Food in Singapore

Singapore’s colourful diaspora has gifted the city with a culinary scene that celebrates its diverse culture. A benefit of this harmonious stew is the influence of the island’s Islamic community and the availability of halal restaurants and delicious halal food. We highlight some of the city’s best for halal bites.

A Culture of Cuisines

Best Halal and Malay food, Nasi Lemak, which can be found at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Malay food, which is typically found in halal-certified establishments, is characterised by intense flavours and spices that reflect traditional Southeast Asian palates. One can expect the rich sweetness of coconut milk and  gula melaka  (palm sugar) in desserts, and the spicy zing of  sambal  (chilli paste) on a plate of  Nasi Lemak .

These days, halal restaurants and cafes incorporate culinary influences from around the globe for an array of dining options spanning a spectrum of tastes; these can be found in hawker stalls and halal fine dining restaurants alike.

Halal Certification

Halal certification for halal food in Singapore

Photo credit: Singapore Food Manufacturers' Association

As you roam the streets in Singapore, it won't be long before the seductive aroma of spices leads you to a restaurant or hawker stall with a selection of tempting halal fare. Halal-certified establishments in Singapore can be easily recognised by spotting a certificate awarded by the  Islamic Religious Council of Singapore  (MUIS). These typically include the authority's distinctive logo, the name of the restaurant or hawker stall, and their address. With this certification, you can be assured that the food has been prepared correctly according to Islamic laws.

While some food outlets and stalls don't have halal certification, they may display a sign indicating ‘no pork, no lard". This does not guarantee that the food is Halal as the preparation process hasn't been checked and regulated. MUIS advises Muslim consumers to be aware of this and exercise caution and discretion before dining at these restaurants.

An Array of Flavours

Kampong Glam, Singapore's Muslim Quarter, with a variety of best halal food in Singapore

You don’t have to go far to discover something irresistible to eat in Singapore, but your hunt for the best halal restaurants and treats should begin in Kampong Glam. One of the Lion City’s oldest neighbourhoods, Kampong Glam is a bright and bustling area where tradition and trends blend seamlessly into a feast for all senses. Wander along the brimming streets and soak in the energetic atmosphere as you discover extraordinary mosques, gift shops, and markets selling ornate trinkets and dazzling materials.

As a beloved area for Singapore’s Muslim community, Kampong Glam is a landmark spot for food and drink enthusiasts. Beyond the retail stores and stalls, you will find a plethora of halal-certified restaurants serving an incredible variety of Indian, Indonesian, Turkish, Lebanese, and other cuisines to suit all tastes.
