Dermot Kennedy, who’s consistently one of the most listened to Irish artists, will be back on Irish soil this weekend to conclude months of touring. He’s been promoting his latest album, Sonder , which hit number one in Ireland and across the pond too – not an easy feat to follow up a number-one debut record with another one, even after Without Fear became the biggest-selling album of the millennium by an Irish artist. If Kennedy was Something to Someone, he’s now something large to his Irish fans, selling out two huge summer gigs in Dublin this weekend.

Although he is finishing a UK and Ireland tour in his home country, he is fresh off a jam-packed tour across the US and Canada, playing gig after gig, night after night. That he still has the energy or vocal cords to finish with five gigs in Ireland is impressive in itself. So what can we expect from the concerts?

When does he play?

Kennedy and Co will play to a crowd of 40,000 people at Marlay Park in South Dublin on Friday, June 23rd, and Saturday, June 24th.

What time should I arrive?

Gates open at 4pm and the show starts at 5pm. Amid increased traffic and security measures, fans have been advised to be at the venue in sufficient time. No overnight or early queuing is permitted.

Who are the support acts?

Kennedy will have three support acts, so it will be some time before fans will get to the main event. David Kushner, the American songwriter who went viral on TikTok last year with his song Miserable Man, will be the first guitar-brandishing act of the evening. Next up will be Kingfishr, a Limerick-based folk/indie trio, followed by Nell Mescal, the sister of Oscar-nominated actor Paul, and, more importantly, a talented artist in her own right.

How do I get there – and home again?

Concertgoers have been asked to allow at least an extra two hours travel time to and from the venue. Organisers have said delays are “inevitable” and fans are encouraged to use the special event transport outlined below.

By Bus: Buses will transport fans to the ground of Marlay Park. For information on where and when to get a bus, visit evntz.ie . Marathon are operating a bus service from Custom House Quay in the city centre direct to the concert grounds. Tickets can be purchased here .

By Luas: Take the Luas green line from the city centre to Dundrum or Balally, which are a 35-minute walk to Marlay Park. A shuttle bus from Dundrum Luas station to Marlay Park will run every 30 minutes from 2pm, and tickets can be purchased from Marathon here . A joint ticket for Dundrum Town Centre parking and the shuttle bus can be purchased from Marathon for the Friday and Saturday concerts.

By Car: Car parking at Marlay Park is extremely limited and must be pre-booked for €25 per car. At the time of writing, it is sold out . The car park entrance is located on College Road and is accessed via Whitechurch Road. Only those who have pre-booked can park here. The organisers recommend the SuperValu car park on Balinteer Avenue as a suitable spot for drop off and collection by car. There will be road closures surrounding Marlay Park on the day.

By Taxi: Following the concert, a passenger pickup point will be facilitated on the Brehon Field Road, however, the organisers have said they cannot guarantee taxis will be available.

What will he play?

At his most recent concert in Boston, Kennedy played for a little less than two hours. Spoilt for choice in his song selection, he played as many from Sonder as his first record, Without Fear. So you can expect the Dublin gig to look at little like this:

Are there any tickets left?

This is a sold out show. However, keep an eye out for resale tickets at ticketmaster.ie . Buy tickets from accredited sources. Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic, last month advised fans to download their tickets to their phones before getting to the park as there is no guarantee of internet connection at the gates of Marlay Park.

What’s the story with security?

Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult; bring your passport, Garda age card or driving licence as evidence of your date of birth. Allow time for security checks on the way in. Bags larger than A4 size will not be permitted and all bags may be searched, and this can be time-consuming, so consider going bagless for easier entry. There will be no cloakroom or storage facilities. No umbrellas, alcohol, garden furniture, selfie sticks, flares, glasses or cans, among other items, will be allowed into the event. There are no readmissions to the concert, so once you leave there’s no getting back in.

Supt Tomás Gormley of Tallaght Garda station told a preconcert press conference last month: “There will be a big policing operation in place which will impact our policing commitments around the rest of the district,” adding his “number one priority” was keeping eventgoers and the surrounding community safe.

Can I take photographs at the concert?

Yes, but only with a smartphone or small camera. Professional cameras with a detachable lens and any other recording equipment are banned.

What’s the weather forecast?

If you have tickets for the Friday gig, it’s bad news. Met Éireann is forecasting scattered clouds, showers and temperatures of up to 22 degrees. A light rain jacket wouldn’t go amiss. On Saturday it should stay dry with clouds, sunshine and temperatures set to reach 24 degrees. So if you’re looking for a resale ticket, Saturday is the one to eye up.

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Dermot Kennedy has announced his biggest ever tour, including a headline show at The O2 on Friday 14 April 2023.

The tour announcement coincides with Dermot releasing his latest single ‘Innocence and Sadness’, a song taken from his upcoming second album ‘SONDER’ out on 4 November. ‘Innocence and Sadness’, a beautiful piano ballad that’s as quiet and delicate as it is huge and powerful, is a perfect uplifting slice of the upcoming record, hitting you straight in the gut and leaving the listener reeling like only Dermot can.

On the track, Dermot commented; “It’s impossible for me to express how much this song means to me. I wrote this song on the piano in my parents’ house. “Innocence and sadness in the same night” means I cling to my childlike sense of wonder while learning how to face all the challenges of life. All in search of steady rhythm joy. Reliable and true joy.” 

Dermot recently released the fantastic single ‘Kiss Me’; co-written by Dermot, Dan Smith (Bastille), KOZ (Kendrick Lamar, Dua Lipa) and Steve Mac (Pink, Ed Sheeran), ‘Kiss Me’ is pop perfection, marrying poignant lyrics about love’s intensity with an infectious, hook-laden melody that immediately draws the listener in.

Dermot Kennedy has also announced the dates for his 2023 UK and European tour.

The Dublin singer-songwriter’s tour which will kick off on March 31 in Glasgow, before wrapping things up at The O2 in London on April 14.

Along the way Dermot will make stops in cities including Aberdeen, Manchester, Birmingham and more, as well as playing shows across Europe.

He also recently shared his latest single , “Innocence and Sadness”: a powerful, piano-led offering that will feature on his second studio album, Sonder – due for release on November 4 . The release of the track has also been accompanied by an acoustic performance shot live from Mission Sound Studios in Brooklyn, New York.

The tour will support Kennedy’s aforementioned Sonder LP, which will feature the already released tracks “Kiss Me”, “Better Days” and “Dreamer”. The album follows on from his 2019 debut, Without Fear .

Since then Dermot has earned himself a BRIT Awards nomination for Male Artist of the Year in 2020 and towards the end of last year, he raised over $300,000 with charitable performances in Dublin and New York.

After performing two sold-out shows at Dublin's Marlay Park last month, Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy heads west to play three headline gigs at Thomond Park in Limerick.

The globally acclaimed artist will take to the stage at Munster Rugby's home ground on Friday 7 July, Saturday 8 July and Sunday 9 July, and for anyone who has tickets to one of the gigs, here's everything you need to know before you set off for Thomond Park.

Getting there

The best way to get to Thomond Park is by using public transport, and coaches will be available to book in advance. Ticket holders will be emailed the Public Information Notice directly which will contain the relevant links to book their transport.

Limerick's Colbert Station is approximately 2.5km from Thomond Park and is around a 25 minute journey by foot.

There are also official designated car parks available to pre-book here online on www.evntz.ie .

There will be road closures in place, and a comprehensive traffic plan will be in operation. Ticket holders will be emailed information about how best to access/travel to Thomond Park.

Concertgoers have been urged to ensure they leave sufficient time for additional traffic and security measures.

There will be two entrances to the concert site. The RED/GREEN entrance is located off Knockalisheen Road for the East Stand, Gold Circle, Premium Access and Pitch Standing.

The BLUE entrance is on Cratloe Road an is for the West Stand.

An Garda Siochana and event security will operate ticket checks. All concert-goers will be subject to a search.

Stage times

Gates will open at 5pm with the show set to get underway at 6pm.

Ticketholders should take note that there is no re-admission to this event – if you leave the site for any reason, you will not be allowed to return. Concertgoers are urged to be very careful to bring everything you need with you on the day.

Rising Cork pop purveyor Cian Ducrot is set to perform on all three nights, while Limerick band Kingfishr will take to the stage on Friday and Sunday, with singer-songwriter Nell Mescal - sister to Oscar-nominated actor Paul Mescal - lined up as the opening act for the Saturday show.

With two acts performing ahead of him each night, concert-goers should expect Kennedy to take to the stage at around 8.15pm, with his set expected to be around 90 minutes long.

It is expected that Kennedy will stick to a similar setlist to the one he played for his two gigs at Marlay Park so fans should expect to hear the following tracks.

Things to know

There will be catering and bar facilities onsite, no alcohol can be brought in. Water points are also located throughout the site.

People have been advised to not bring animals (except registered working dogs), large backpacks, glass cans and hard plastic or metal, umbrellas, alcohol or illegal substances, professional camera or video equipment.

Other banned items include garden furniture, deckchairs, fold-up chairs, umbrellas, selfie sticks, flares/fireworks, megaphones and air horns, aerosols/spray cans, smoke and gas canisters, glass, drones.

All under 16s attending the event must be accompanied at all times by an adult aged 25 or above. Adult ticket holders must remain with under 16s and take full responsibility for them throughout the event. Strict age monitoring will be in place at all entrances. The promoter reserves the right to refuse entry to any unaccompanied under 16’s without a refund.

No under 16 will be permitted in the Gold Circle or on the pitch. U16s must be either seated in the stands, or else standing in the terraces. If your tickets aren’t age appropriate, please contact Ticketmaster via your MyAccount to enquire about availability of exchanges to a more suitable area.

Kennedy's visit to the Treaty City marks the beginning of the singer's Sonder Tour, named after his latest album, featuring hits such as Something to Someone, Kiss Me, Dreamer and Innocence and Sadness.

His album, Sonder, reached the Number 1 spot in Ireland and the UK. A dynamic and powerful live performer, Kennedy has become one of the biggest and fastest selling live artists ever following his historic run of Irish shows in 2022 - with eight huge concerts across Ireland. He also headlined Electric Picnic to over 70,000 people last September.

His debut album Without Fear is also the biggest selling album of the millennium by an Irish artist.

Event Details

Dermot Kennedy initially rose through the ranks of the open mic scene in Dublin, studying classical music at college. Born and raised in Ireland's County Dublin, he was first inspired by his cousin to pick up the guitar at the age of 10. Writing his own songs from his mid-teens, his father actively nurtured his talent by taking him to the city to play in bars he otherwise would not be old enough to drink in.

Kennedy found early inspiration in the likes of acoustic singer-songwriter David Gray. His sound evolved over subsequent years, moving away from the more traditional folk and integrating elements of hip-hop into his music. Drawn in by the strong storytelling across both genres, he began to experiment with the confinement of genre boundaries, yet by his own admission remaining firmly rooted to his acoustic past.

He's on his UK leg at the moment

Dermot Kennedy is currently mid-way through the UK leg of his 'Sonder' tour , in support of his current album , where he performs hits such as ' Outnumbered ', 'Something to Someone' and 'Power Over Me'.

Dermot has been touring Europe, but with his first UK gig in Glasgow at the end of March, he now has several more dates across the UK, including dates in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and London.
