Meaning of Don’t Even Trip by Peeping Tom (Ft. Amon Tobin)
The song "Don't Even Trip" by Peeping Tom (featuring Amon Tobin) explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and forgiveness. The lyrics suggest a complex relationship between the narrator and their friend, who may have made mistakes or displayed negative qualities.
In the first verse, the narrator implies that despite their friend's age, they should know better than to make certain choices. The phrase "I won't use that stupid word forever" could refer to the friend using derogatory language or behaving inappropriately. The line "Cross your heart and hope to die" suggests an agreement or promise that the friend should uphold.
The chorus states that "assholes grow on trees" but also acknowledges the narrator's willingness to forgive and overlook their friend's shortcomings because they still value the friendship. The metaphor of trimming the leaves emphasizes the narrator's commitment to maintaining the friendship by cutting out the negative aspects.
Throughout the song, the phrase "Don't even trip" is used repeatedly, indicating a desire to not let small issues or disagreements hinder their relationship. It can be seen as the narrator urging their friend not to worry, as they still consider them a friend despite their flaws.
In the third verse, the lyrics take a more confrontational tone as the narrator questions the friend's actions and character. The lines "Drop that gun, you ain't my fucking hero" and "You think it's cool to be a fucking zero?" imply that the friend may be engaging in harmful behavior or portraying themselves as someone they're not. However, the line "Can't believe I called you 'mi amigo'" suggests a sense of disbelief or disappointment in the friend's betrayal.
The song ultimately concludes with a reaffirmation of the friendship. The lyrics express the narrator's struggle to reconcile their negative perception of their friend with their desire to maintain the bond. Despite acknowledging their friend as a "piece of shit," they choose to overlook it for the sake of the friendship.
Overall, "Don't Even Trip" explores the complexities of friendship, forgiveness, and the challenges of accepting someone's flaws while still valuing their presence in one's life. It serves as a reflection on the complicated dynamics and emotions that come with long-lasting relationships.

I agree, mint song. Mike is hardcore 24/7
The character had a falling out with his dad (or friend), tries to rationalize what happened and why, and tries to make peace.
the line that's listed here as "daddy you're still my friend" sounds quite clearly to me like "that you're still my friend."
i think the song is from the POV of someone who's been screwed over by a friend and realizes that the person's a complete jerkoff, but is willing to let it slide one last time. there's a warning right there in the song title - don't even trip. you screw up once, even in the smallest little way, and it's all over.
Anyone think this could be directed towards Trey Spruance?
facelift, if that song is directed towards Trey Spruance then it's a complete joke. The lyrics in Peeping Tom are brilliant cause they fit on every listener, plus Mike Patton doesn't really take himself seriously.
Anyway, this song is about old friends and a really big warning towards one of them. The main character realizes the other one is nothing but a fuck and asks himself if they're still friends. Probably yes.
This song has a serious dose of Patton's humor which is damn weird and I totally love it.
I was just thinking that because lately i've been reading on various forums from people talking about rumors surrounding the breakup of Bungle and some are who supposedly close to some of the members. The most common reason that came up was some pretty serious fights between Mike and Trey.
Upon first listen, I immediately thought, "Trey." And what many people forget is that the meanings of songs are usually more specific in the beginning. Or they may stay that way, and the artist himself or herself may alter the "meaning" for the general public. After all, the second person is "still [his] friend." What kind of friend throws another under the bus with a song, especially a tongue in cheek trip hop song?
its most def "that your my friend" and not "daddy your my friend"
i think this song is from the POV of god or at least a spirit that has been with the person he is singing to for a long long time. i think he is trying to give him words of inspiration even though he calls him a piece of shit, he calls him that because he knows what mankind is, pretty shitty at times. but the words of inspiration come from saying "drop that gun you aint my fucking hero, think its cool to be a fuckin zero" cause he wants the subject to be an influence in people's lives but its not the right way to go, and then, "speak up now, and one of you is a hundred loud, when you preach they'll join you on the roofs and streets" he is saying, use your words instead of weapons, and the people will listen to him, as if he was a born leader. i kind of think the long was set up for a person with dilusions of grandeur and what his "voices" in his head are telling him, but this time, those voices might be right.
