UAE Family Group Tourist Visa: Kids Under 18 Enter for Free
Tourists can now apply for a family group visit visa, and the good news is that it’s free of charge for children.
Under this scheme, children below the age of 18 can receive a visa without any cost, while the standard visa fees apply to their parents. The application for this visa should be submitted alongside either the father’s or mother’s application.
Industry experts highlight the growing popularity of this entry permit among visitors, citing its convenience and cost-effectiveness, as there are no visa fees for children under 18. Importantly, there are no restrictions on the number of children eligible for this permit, and it even applies to children traveling with only one parent. This visa is available for stays of 30 or 60 days, with the option for extension within the country.
Application Process: To apply, a family needs to submit passport copies and photographs to a travel agency all at once. While the visa itself is free for children, travel agent service charges and insurance fees will apply. The agency then processes the application, typically issuing the visa within a day or two.
Cost: The visa fee for parents, along with service charges for children, may vary depending on the travel agency. For a 30-day visa for a parent, costs range from Dh350 to Dh500, and service charges and insurance for a child range from Dh80 to Dh120. A 60-day visa will cost Dh500 to Dh650, with service charges, including insurance, varying from Dh130 to Dh170.
Requirements:
- Passport copy
- Passport-sized photograph
Extension Policy: The family visa can be extended without exiting the country, but a full visa fee must be paid for children during the extension. Visitors can extend the family visa for up to 120 days without leaving the country.

Tourists to the UAE wishing to avail of the visa fee waiver for children under 18 years can apply for it through licensed travel agents, national carriers or UAE-based hotels, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) has announced. They can also apply for it through the ICAI mobile phone application or its website (www.ica.gov.ae). The national carriers are Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Air Arabia. The exemption is applicable for tourists travelling to the country from July 15 to September 15 every year. Major-General Saeed Rakan Al Rashidi, acting director-general for foreigners affairs and ports at the ICA, said if tourists are applying for the exemption through hotels, they need to "comply" with their reservations. He added that the scheme was announced by the UAE Cabinet earlier this year. - [email protected]

Dubai: Families that are visiting the UAE can benefit from the family group tourist visa service offered by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA-D).
On November 1, Gulf News reported that the family group visa application allows parents and their children to apply for visas as a group, through authorised travel agencies.
If you are planning to visit the UAE with your family, here is all you need to know about this visa option.
How to apply
Reaching out to a travel agency is extremely easy, as most agencies in the UAE allow you to send the documents online, through email or Whatsapp.
“All you require is the clear passport copy and passport-sized photographs. You can send these to a travel agency and they can apply for your family’s visa as a group, and it will be collectively approved,” Joseph Lancy Dsouza, general manager at Dubai-based Arabian Nights Travel and Tourism told Gulf News.
He added that this option is more convenient and economical for families, as children under the age of 18 are not charged the visa fee. However, the travel agency may charge a service fee for the visa processing.

How much does the visa cost?
Travel agencies who spoke with Gulf News said that the cost for adults in the group application – as well as the service charge for children – may vary depending on the applicant’s nationality. For example, the cost for adult members of an Indian family are approximately Dh300 to Dh350 per person.
While children do not have to pay any visa fees, the processing charges for each child’s application may be between Dh80 to Dh100.
The processing costs can vary from one agency to another, so it is advisable to speak to them in advance to enquire about their charges.
Documents required
Myrna Quindoyos, admin officer at Dubai-based East and West Travels LLC, said that there are only two main documents that are mandatory for applicants:
1. Clear passport copy 2. Passport-sized photograph
However, in some cases you may also be asked to provide the following documents:
1. Birth certificate of children 2. Marriage certificate 3. National ID 4. Bank statement 5. Hotel reservation 6. Return ticket
“If you are from a country where the parents’ name is mentioned on the passport, you do not need to provide a birth certificate. But in case the children’s passport does not have the father’s or mother’s name, you need to provide the birth certificate. This may also be required if the parents are of two different nationalities. In such cases, you may also need to provide a marriage certificate,” she added.
Nationals of some countries and applicants in certain age groups may also be asked to provide their National ID or bank statement.

What is the duration of the visa?
According to GDRFA-D, travel agencies can now apply for short-term tourist visas, with a duration of 30 to 60 days, which can be extended to a maximum of 120 days, if necessary.
How long will it take to get the approval?
According to Dsouza, the application may take up to three to four days to get approved, but often times the visa is issued much sooner.

No Visa Fee for Children: Here's How to Apply for a Family Group Visit Visa in UAE
Tourists can apply for the family group visit visa through travel agencies for either 30 days or 60 days which can be extended within the country.
If your loved ones are planning a trip to the UAE, here's a reminder: tourists can apply for a family group visit visa, in which children receive a visa free-of-cost.
The family group visit visa allows children under the age of 18 to receive a visa free-of-cost, while the parents to pay for their own fee.
“The application for this visa should be submitted along with either father’s or mother’s application,”
said Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager for inbound and outbound operations at Regal Tours Worldwide.
Industry experts said that the family group visit visa is highly in demand and many visitors are opting for this entry permit.
“A family group visit visa is more convenient and cost-effective for families, given that there is no visa fee for children under the age of 18,” said Subair adding that it is not restricted to any number of children.
“The visa can be applied for one parent and both of them visiting the UAE is not necessary,”
added Subair.
As it's the festive season, we are issuing many family group visit visas every day as Indians want to celebrate Diwali in Dubai, said Firoz Maliyakkal, founder and CEO of Tahira Tours and Travels
Experts say that this visa was introduced two years ago and people from all over the world who are aware of it prefer this service.
How to apply
To apply for this visa, visitors should collectively submit passport copy and photos to the agency.
“We will process the entry permit as a family visa, where the children can travel without visa charges. However travel agent service charges and insurance must be paid for children,”
said Firoz.
“This visa will be issued in a day or two,”
Firoz added.
The visa fee for parents within the group application, along with the service charge for children, may vary on the travel agency.
However, the cost for 30 days visa for a parent ranges from Dh350 to Dh500 on average and the service charge and insurance for a child lies between Dh80 and Dh120.
“For 60 days visa for single person, the fees is Dh500 to Dh650 on an average and the service charge including insurance may vary from Dh130 to Dh170,”

- Passport-sized photograph
Experts said that the family visa can be extended without exiting the country,
“however, a full visa fee has to be paid for children. The extension within the country is not free for children,”
said Subair.
“Visitors can extend the family visa up to 120 days without exiting the country,”

Children Below 18 to Get FREE UAE Visa
Traveling with kids has just gotten much easier and more affordable in UAE. Every summer season, the children of tourists traveling to the UAE are exempted from visa fees .
You heard that right! Seeking to boost the country as a major tourist destination, the UAE Cabinet has introduced new visa rules . One of these is the exemption of tourists’ dependents from visa fees during a specific period each year, according to WAM News Agency .
UAE Exempts Tourists’ Kids from Visa Fees
During the first quarter of 2018, around 32.8 million passengers transited through the UAE’s airports. Many of them are tourists who have to come to see the sights, experience the culture, and basically enjoy all the amazing things that the 7 emirates have to offer!
Notably, the latest rule further highlights the country’s status as a leading destination for families. The visa fee exemption applies to:
- Dependents of tourists from outside the UAE
- Accompanying children who are below 18 years old
- Travel period from July 15 – September 15 every year
The #UAE Cabinet approved a decision to exempts accompanying dependents of tourists under the age of 18 from visa fees from July 15 to September 15 of each year. #UAEGov pic.twitter.com/Km9ZbHjYvu — UAEGov (@uaegov) July 15, 2018
Aside from this new rule, the UAE Cabinet has also introduced the following recently:
- 48-hour transit visa for travelers
- 6-month temporary visa for job seekers
- 1-year visa for widows, divorcees, & people from war-torn countries
- 10-year visa for investors, select professionals, & top students
All of these changes continue to make the UAE more accessible and “travel friendly” for different kinds of people. With policies such as these, it’s no wonder that the country has become a major hub for business, development, trade, and tourism!

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a family group tourist visa, allowing parents and children to apply together. Children under 18 are exempt from visa fees when traveling with their parents. The visa application process is exclusive to authorized travel agencies, both within and outside the UAE. Brigadier General Khalaf Al-Ghaith, Assistant Director General of the Entry and Residence Permits Sector, clarified that this offer is only available for tourist visa applications processed through travel agencies.
Key Details about the Family Group Visa:
- Intended for single applications for families traveling together.
- Travel agencies can apply for short-term tourist visas lasting 30 to 60 days, extendable up to a maximum of 120 days with an early extension application.
- To apply, families need to submit a passport copy valid for at least six months and provide a passport-sized photograph.
For comprehensive information and documentation, prospective visitors can refer to the GDFRA website.
Additionally, foreigners residing in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries can now obtain an entry visa to the UAE for up to 30 days, extendable once. The application process is facilitated through digital channels, available 24/7. Users can register on the GDFRA website, select the desired service, enter accurate details, including full name, pay the required fees, and receive the visa via email upon approval.
It is crucial to ensure the accuracy of information during the application process, as incomplete data may lead to rejection. The UAE government has upgraded its visa application process, allowing travelers, even those outside the UAE, to secure their visas within minutes, marking a significant improvement from the previous hours-long approval process.
