The Best Family-Friendly Activities on an Alaska Cruise

A 2023 cruise to Alaska offers something for everyone. Consider wildlife viewing opportunities like whale-watching, take a dog sledding tour, or let your kids try their hand at panning for gold. If you have older children looking for adventure, consider sea kayaking, rainforest zip lining, a glacier trek, or dry-suit snorkeling.

Take a Duck Tour on an amphibious vehicle, floatplane tour, fjord cruises, and more. You'll also find a superb selection of cultural and historical activities, such as salmon bakes, lumberjack shows, totem carving demonstrations, and tribal dance shows.

Family Cruises to the Bahamas & Great Stirrup Cay

Norwegian's 2023 Bahamas cruises include a stop at Great Stirrup Cay , a private island available exclusively to Norwegian cruise passengers. You can spend the day relaxing on the beach or splurge for a private cabana or villa for your family.

You'll find plenty of things to do on Great Stirrup Cay. Go snorkeling, zip lining, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more. You can also book an excursion to see the Swimming Pigs of Treasure Island, which are only a 10-minute boat ride away.

Great Stirrup Cay features plenty of food options after you've worked up an appetite. Create tacos in the complimentary Abaco Taco or try out the new food truck, Tropic Like It's Hot. Travelers older than 18 in your family can have a freshly muddled mojito at Bacardi Bar or a margarita on the rocks at the Patron Bar.

Family Fun

Things to Do on a Bermuda Family Cruise

Many people book a Bermuda cruise to spend a couple of days relaxing on the pink sand beaches. However, you'll also find several Bermuda excursions to keep you and your family entertained. Choose from multiple snorkel trips, sunset catamaran cruises, glass-bottom boat tours, and more. You can also book an Atlantic reef fishing excursion aboard the "Jolly Roger," a 57-foot custom fishing boat.

If you have your SCUBA certification or you have wanted to try diving, you'll also find available options. Book a two-tank dive if you're certified or sign up for a Discover SCUBA course. You can experience a shallow dive in a supervised and safe environment when you book this course.

Family Cruises to The Caribbean

Norwegian is an industry leader when it comes to cruising in The Caribbean. You can sail year-round to numerous islands, all of which offer plenty of family-friendly activities and excursions. Book a Norwegian Caribbean cruise if your family enjoys spending time on the beach or in the water.

Opt for a Western Caribbean itinerary to visit ports in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. Here you'll find no shortage of extraordinary dive sites since you'll be traveling along the Mesoamerican Reef. This reef is the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. The region is also rich in history, with hundreds of Maya sites within reach.

You can also head to the southern portion of the Caribbean and visit iconic islands such as Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, and more. Explore the Dutch colonial buildings of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. You'll find superb diving here as well as plenty of other activities, such as four-by-four safari adventures, kayaking, and catamaran tours.

When you choose a region in The Caribbean you want to visit, check out the comprehensive list of Caribbean shore excursions . You can filter by port and activity types, such as family, sightseeing, or adventure.

Idyllic beaches & Scilly Isles: family cruises 2025 from £99 per child

Family cruises from the UK eliminate a ton of airport and flight stress, whisking you and the little ones away to exciting shores – and this Ambassador cruise has the bonus of being a real bargain.

mum and daughter in the sun - family cruises

Children can cruise for £99

Ambassador Cruise Line is starting to make a name for itself when it comes to affordable, no-fly family cruise holidays.

This year the British cruise brand is offering cruises for families from the UK to both the Mediterranean and the Norwegian Fjords during the summer holidays, with more to come next year.

However, in 2025 multigenerational groups don’t have to hold out for the hotter months thanks to the Ambassador family cruise in the Easter holidays.

The Easter Multigenerational Getaway, taking place on 17 April 2025 – for those of you who really like to plan ahead – sails from London Tilbury on board Ambassador flagship Ambience.

Ambience cruise ship

Ambassador flagship Ambience

Family members of all ages will cruise from the UK to France, the Isles of Scilly and Ireland on this seven-night Ambassador Cruise Line holiday during the Easter break.

No need to worry about soaring costs on Ambassador family cruise holidays, though. Children can sail for just £99 per child and adult tickets won’t break the bank either thanks to whopping savings of 31 percent – fares start from £549 per person on this family cruise 2025.

What’s more, it’s only £349 for any third or fourth person sharing, and remember, all these prices include food and entertainment onboard making for a seriously economical escape.

Because Ambassador is normally an adult-only cruise line (except for its select multigenerational getaways during school holidays) note there are no dedicated children’s facilities onboard on these cruises for families, but there’s still lots to do for the kids at your ports of call. Let’s check out the itinerary…

Honfleur harbour family cruises

Honfleur’s old harbour

Ambassador family cruises: Easter Multigenerational Getaway 2025

Honfleur, france.

This beautiful town in Normandy has served to inspire numerous artists, including the great Claude Monet, so who knows what the little budding creatives in your family might go on to achieve after a visit here!

Head to the Eugene Boudin Museum to find out all about the fellow Impressionist painter or check out the Maisons Satie, a museum dedicated to the life and works of renowned composer Erik Satie. Kids will enjoy the interactive experience where the maestro’s eccentric world can be explored through music, art and multimedia installations.

Don’t miss Honfleur’s old harbour (Vieux Bassin) where families can stroll along the harbour, admire the colourful boats and soak up the maritime atmosphere. To appreciate the town from up high, visit hilltop park Mont Joli where children can run around, fly kites or picnic to a panoramic backdrop.

You’ve got the entire day in Honfleur on this Ambassador family cruise so why not check out the lovely beaches nearby? The closest beach is Honfleur Plage just a short drive away. First one into the sea gets an ice cream.

St Mary's Isles of Scilly beach - family cruises

St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly

St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, UK

This archipelago might be off the southwestern tip of Cornwall, although you’d be forgiven for thinking this Ambassador cruise had arrived at a more tropical destination: UK spring arrives first in the Scilly isles and warm, sunny Easter weather isn’t unusual.

Ambience calls at St Mary’s in the Isles of Scilly and there’s culture and fun for all the family here.

The beaches are particularly impressive, with Porthcressa Beach and Town Beach both popular choices for safe swimming. If you’d rather stay dry get stuck into sandcastle-building or rock pool-exploring.

To get out on the water, hop aboard a St Mary’s boat trip – excursions include everything from wildlife spotting and snorkelling to fishing trips. Just remember it’s not always a competition Granddad…

There’s lots of fauna to be seen from land too. Take your kids on nature walks, where you can spot various bird species, seals and even dolphins if you’re lucky. You can also visit the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust’s visitor centre for educational exhibits and activities.

Other family-friendly holiday activities here include walking the Garrison Wall – an elevated headland on St. Mary’s with a historic fortification – and visiting the Buzza Tower, a folly built in the late 19th century. Climb up the spiral staircase and see what you can spot from the top!

cobh-cork-church-southwest-ireland-holidays

Cobh, for Cork

Cork, Ireland

Your last port of call on this Ambassador cruise is Cobh, for Cork in the southwest of the Republic of Ireland. In Cobh itself you can visit The Titanic Experience which offers an interactive journey narrating the story of the doomed ship and its passengers – an educational and engaging experience for kids. If you’ve got teens, why not get their interests piqued with the Kate and Leo film epic?

From Cobh passengers can head to Cork where for more history there’s Cork City Gaol, a former prison turned museum where youngsters can learn about the history of the prison, see the cells and gain insight into the harsh conditions prisoners endured. Eek, don’t leave us here, Mum!

Alternatively explore the Lifetime Lab, an interactive science centre located in the old Cork City Waterworks. It offers hands-on exhibits, workshops and demonstrations that make learning about science and technology jolly for children of all ages. Perhaps one for impressing science teachers when term resumes?

When the kids tire of education (it is their summer holidays after all!) head to Fota Wildlife Park, home to various animal species, including giraffes, zebras, monkeys and penguins. Here families can learn about conservation and even feed some of the animals. Cork has several parks and playgrounds where kids can play too, if little ones need to let off some steam!

Hop on a cruise during school breaks to go on a family adventure, or choose an off-season cruise August-October for a quieter experience. It's nice to soak in some solitude with waves lapping at your feet.

The sapphire-colored waters of the Eastern Caribbean will draw you into bubbling biodiversity beneath the surface. Come face-to-face with manta rays, sea turtles and dolphins on your journey to the deep. The spring and summer months see the most activity from these majestic sea creatures.

In addition to having lots of cruise options out of Orlando , Fort Lauderdale and Miami , there are Eastern Caribbean itineraries from New Jersey’s Cape Liberty . A great option for snowbirds and travelers looking to escape winter for sunshine and warm weather.

In addition to coral-safe sunscreen, pack a few swim shirts or tropical skirts to keep you comfortably covered from the sun.

Respect the marine life: If you see dolphins and sea turtles out and about during the day, just admire them and leave them be.

LOCAL CUISINE IN-FUSION-ED WITH FLAVOR

The cuisine of the Eastern Caribbean is shaped by the fresh seafood and shellfish pulled from the region's pristine waters. Blend that with a taste for richness expressed through coconut-based desserts and hearty plantain side dishes, and you've got an approach to food that checks all the boxes for the pleasure-seeking palate.

Can anyone give advice? If the season is not a good time I may considering visiting it durin summer later

' class=

I presume you mean Western easter. Russian/orthodox easter falls on April 8th in 2018. Some years it's more than a month later than the Western one.

> Found that the weather can still be chilly. Some say it can be raining and when snowing is melting it’s not convenient for travelling around

March is winter with a lot of snow still around. Of course it varies from year to year but I have skied in early April more than once. This said, there's nothing insurmoubtable about that - just be sure that you are dressed properly for coldish weather and have warm and waterproof footwear.

> is there fasting before easter in Russia?

Yes but not everybody practices that, besides a lot of people around are not even Christians at all.

> I wonder if restaurants would be affected too.

Some restaurants will add some "fasting-compliant" dishes to their menus but all their usual stuff will still be available.

family cruise easter 2023

The one time I was there for Easter I was truly amazed at the very festive nature of the city, which included outside of totally normal religious aspects wonderful “street markets” on many of the city’s plentiful squares. Aside from the weather as noted (it is still after all winter this year...as stated, sometime it can come closer to the end of April). As for what weather to expect, my standard advice is to check any of a number of web sites - both well in advance (more “climate”) and then all week before you leave...but for sure, be fully prepared for quite cold temps and a lot of snow, or a lot of melting, mucky snow!

" If the season is not a good time I may considering visiting it durin summer later"

- I would do exactly that, taking into account your home climate

If this year, stay away from early June thru later July...World Cup in Russia...few if any hotel rooms left...

One can always rent an apartment.

But it's true, most Muscovites are fleeing the city, myself included :)))

But you should wear proper clothes (better have a cap, a scarf, gloves and waterproof boots). I also recommend a spacious jacket with a hood and a thin sweater and a sweatshirt under it. Better a few layers of clothing than one thick and warm thing.

From what I have seen, apartment rental prices are as can be expected going up along with hotels...these folks are not fools...and from what I have also checked on, a lot of the apartment prices even BEFORE this were not too far off of hotel prices...advantages being one could cook, etc...but also unless you use a middleman (as in, they get a cut) like AirBnB, you are in truly "buyer beware" territory...and would hate to see someone rely on this as a sure fire way to save a few (hundred?) $...
