Playing six-stops around the country throughout August and September

Listen to First Beige's smooth new single 'BBL'

Brisbane outfit First Beige have announced they’ll be hitting the road later this year, to celebrate their forthcoming single ‘Sudden Weight’.

Sharing the news today (June 25), the band took to social media to reveal the six-stop tour. They’ll be kicking things off with a free show in Wollongong on August 6, before playing Sydney, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Adelaide, eventually wrapping up in their home city on September 4.

Their second single of the year, ‘Sudden Weight’ is set to arrive on Friday July 23, just in time for the tour. It’ll feature vocals from Melbourne artist Allysha Joy , following on from the smooth sounds of ‘BBL’ which they dropped in May.

An ode to their favourite club in Brisbane, ‘BBL’ boasted a mix of electronica, jazz and funk, with atmospheric vocals and an infectious rhythm.

“‘BBL’ pays homage to Black Bear Lodge, a place where we have spent many many many nights not just dancing, but also learning about music and how it can make us feel,” the six-piece said of the track at the time.

The band have been relatively quiet since the release of their 2019 EP ‘Mirrors’, only releasing one single last year called ‘Not Gonna Feel The Way You Asked For’ .

Just call it tortured couture.

Following a two-month break, Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour resumed in Paris, France, on Thursday — and along with adding several songs from her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” to the already-sprawling setlist, the superstar treated lucky ticket holders to some fresh fashion, too.

Swift performed new tunes “But Daddy I Love Him,” “So High School,” “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?,” “Down Bad” and “Fortnight” wearing a white taffeta dress with a corseted bodice, dramatic hip draping and her own lyrics (“I love you, it’s ruining my life”) scrawled down the high-low skirt — a custom design by Vivienne Westwood, as the brand confirmed to Page Six Style.

Taylor Swift performing

She accessorized with one of the house’s signature three-row Orb chokers ($720) and, before launching into “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” topped off her gown with a matching white trench coat featuring military-style epaulettes and frogging.

Swift then switched things up with an on-stage costume change, stripping down to a second Vivienne Westwood ensemble: a black crystal-embellished bra top and briefs, which she layered beneath a metallic gold tailcoat with black crystal-embellished lapels to close out the “TTPD” section with “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

Taylor Swift performing

The new costumes are perfectly in line with the literature-inspired looks Swift’s been exploring while promoting “TTPD” — think corsets, pleated skirts and plenty of black and white .

“There’s definitely a ‘literary academia’ style that’s going on,” Taylor Swift Style blogger Sarah Chapelle told Page Six Style last month. “The [visuals] are telling a very cohesive story, which is clearly pointing to being inspired by female poets of the past.”

The “Black Dog” singer collaborated with a number of major fashion houses on her stage styles for the Eras Tour, all of which are inspired by her past album aesthetics .

Taylor Swift performing

Standouts include the bedazzled Atelier Versace bodysuits Swift wears during the “Lover” section of her performance, the sparkling Roberto Cavalli crop-top-and-miniskirt combos she sports for the “1989” segment and the flowing, fluttering Alberta Ferretti gowns that add ethereal drama to the “Folklore” portion of the show.

And given that the aforementioned brands provided several different color variations of each look for Swift to rotate between as her tour rolls on, additional “TTPD” costumes are practically guaranteed to pop up at the shows ahead.

Neil Young reunites with Crazy Horse after a decade, performs double encore

first beige tour

On Thursday night, magic happened in Tennesseee.

Singer-songwriter Neil Young and rock band Crazy Horse came together to perform their hits over a two-hour show at FirstBank Amphitheater on their first tour together in a decade.

The 2024 "Love Earth Tour" features the now 78-year-old singer alongside the Los Angeles rock band yet again.

Canadian singer-songwriter Young, best known for songs "Heart of Gold," "Harvest Moon" and "Old Man," released the album "Fu##in' Up" with Crazy Horse on April 25, featuring nine rock 'n' roll tracks. The two have released 15 studio albums together.

Young and Crazy Horse kicked off their brief 16-stop tour on April 24 in San Diego and will continue with upcoming stops in Virginia, New Jersey, New York and more.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Thursday's concert in Franklin was originally slated for Wednesday evening, but was postponed by a day due to  inclement weather .

But Thursday night brought the calm after the storm; the evening was serene.

Neil Young returns to Spotify after 2-year hiatus following Joe Rogan controversy

After opener Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping , a musical performance art experience that draws from religion, Young hit the stage.

The set-up featured a backdrop with a galloping horse and giant speaker cabinets and road cases, the same ones Young took on the road with him for his "Rust Never Sleeps" tour in 1978.

Young appeared in a striped cap, a denim work shirt that featured paint splatters and a Spartan Truck Equipment patch, black pants, black shoes and of course, his guitar, Old Black .

He mentioned the venue's beauty multiple times — a stage nestled in the woods of Graystone Quarry in Thompson’s Station.

"How you doin out there? Nice to see you," Young said to the Franklin crowd.

"What a beautiful place. You guys are very lucky to have this place."

Alongside Young was the band, comprised of 80-year-old Billy Talbot on bass and 80-year-old Ralph Molina on drums. They also have a new member, Micah Nelson on guitar.

Nelson, Willie Nelson 's 33-year-old son, took over for the band's previous guitarist Nils Lofgren earlier this year.

Throughout the show, Neil Young and the band played a 17-song set, full with jam sessions and occasional harmonies. Young was energized and playful, captivating the crowd with his trademark nasally, emotional voice.

The set list was mostly comprised of older hits, like 1969's "Cinnamon Girl" and 1972's "Heart of Gold."

The band didn't play any songs from their recent album; the most recent song was 1996's "Scattered (Let's Think About Livin')." Nelson's big moment came during the tune; he traded his guitar to play a swinging keyboard that descended from the ceiling.

Young's guitar playing—both electric and acoustic—was adept and agile. Though Young shared in January he has been playing guitar with arthritis in his hand for years, audience members wouldn't have guessed.

He played the blues on song "Vampire Blues," hitting guitar licks with a precision like Stevie Ray Vaughan's. He also performed drawn-out, warping guitar solos on songs like "Like a Hurricane" and "Powderfinger."

Between songs, Young would hand his guitar off to his techs (who all wore white lab coats), but was audibly uncomfortable until he had a guitar in his arms yet again.

The night's concert walked the line between a Young that leaned into classic, grunge rock 'n' roll with Crazy Horse and a Young that gently cooed with Crosby, Stills & Nash in '69, strumming an acoustic.

Young pulled off the balancing act.

Here are some of the top moments from the night.

Neil Young opens with 'Cortez the Killer,' sings newly released verse

On a purple-lit stage, Neil Young and Crazy Horse kicked off the show with the 1975 song "Cortez the Killer."

The first lyrics from Young brought cheers from the audience as he sang, "He came dancing across the water / With his galleons and guns."

Young surprised fans at the first concert of the tour by singing unreleased lyrics to the song, ones he said did not record due to a power outage on the recording console in 1975.

Young found the lyric manuscript, he said in an interview mid-April this year.

The verse was lost for nearly 50 years. Young sang the verse again in Franklin.

“I floated on the water / I ate that ocean wave / Two weeks after the slaughter/ I was living in a cave / They came too late to get me / But there’s no one here to set me free / From this rocky grave / To that snowed-out ocean wave.”

Neil Young calls on local non-profits to support his eco-friendly mission

Neil Young has been vocal about his environmental efforts throughout his career .

In 1985, Young helped establish the annual Farm Aid concerts . In 2022, he released album "World Record," an album that focuses on climate change. Later that year, Young said he refused to play venues that are supported by factory farms .

The environmentalism was felt at his Franklin show.

Upon entering the concert, fans saw a series of tents and tables from local environmental organizations all hand picked by Young, including Tennessee Local Food . The organizations attended the concert and chatted with fans about their missions.

Young calls it the "LOVE EARTH Village."

At different stops on the tour, hundreds of non-profits working for sustainability and social equity will join to chat about issues like organic farming, wildlife protection, Native American rights and climate change solutions.

According to a venue employee, Young also changed the menu for the venue's offerings on Thursday, opting for more eco-friendly options (Coke products were nowhere to be seen).

On a handout at the venue, Young wrote, "Support your friends, support your land, and support the people that want to care for the land.

"The revolution starts with us. The revolution starts with you."

Neil Young goes acoustic mid-show, takes stage alone

At one point, Young took an empty stage, traded Old Black for an acoustic, and donned the harmonica around his neck.

He sang songs, "Comes a Time," "Heart of Gold" and "Human Highway" onstage alone, leaning into his folk singer-songwriter roots.

Despite the occasional hoot or holler in the audience, a hush crept over the amphitheater as Young sang, played plucky guitar and showcased his harmonica skills between verses.

It was a gentler, softer and more intimate side to the evening.

"Heart of Gold" stood out among the acoustic section.

Young sang his biggest hit: "Keep me searching / For a heart of gold / I've been a miner / For a heart of gold."

An encore and...another encore

Before the encore, Young ended his set with song "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)," leaving the audience with the classic and singing, "Hey hey, my my / Rock and roll can never die."

And it didn't die just then, Young and the band returned to the stage to play "Roll Another Number (For the Road)" as their encore.

After the song finished, the audience didn't stop cheering. Young and company came back to deliver a second encore, this time three songs long.

For encore two, they performed "Danger Bird," "Don't Cry No Tears" and "Sedan Delivery," ending the night on a grungy rock 'n' roll note that included pink lights and plenty of reverb.

Afterwards, the band and Young gathered arm-in-arm in a single spotlight and gave their final bow.

Robert macintyre, contending for first pga tour win, admits life away from native scotland is a challenge, share this article.

first beige tour

Robert MacIntyre is heading into the weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a shot off the lead as he seeks his first PGA Tour victory. He nearly claimed his maiden victory at last year’s Genesis Scottish Open, his 18th-hole 3-wood wowing the gallery before Rory McIlroy spoiled all his fun.

MacIntyre has status on the DP World Tour as well but is committed to making the most of his time on the PGA Tour. However, it’s not always easy moving thousands of miles away from home and settling into a new life.

After his second round Friday, MacIntyre opened up on the challenges of living far from home.

“I’m from a small town on the west coast of Scotland. A lot of people never leave Oban. They go on holidays and stuff, but they’re born there, they work there, they ultimately die there. My whole family and friends are there. They’re probably always going to be there,” he explained.

“It’s just difficult when I come over here, me and my girlfriend. We’re trying to make it home, and it’s difficult when you’ve not got that family connection. We’re giving it our best shot, but it’s completely different to home life.

“Obviously I got home there for three weeks and managed to have somewhat of a normal life for three weeks.”

He was then asked about his U.S. homebase.

“What is your home life like? Obviously you’re traveling a bunch. Where are you living in the U.S., and is it a permanent home?” was a question from the media at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

“No, it’s not a permanent home. Again, it’s a trial period. We’re trying to test out where home is going to be. Renting a place in Orlando, practicing out of Isleworth. The facilities are absolutely incredible.

“I thought that moving to the U.S. was the only way of achieving my dreams in golf. I don’t know if that’s the answer.

“I feel like a happy Bob MacIntyre is a dangerous Bob MacIntyre on the golf course, and home life makes me happy. That’s why I’m probably going to go home after the next couple events. I’ll go home to Scotland rather than go to Orlando.”

He was then asked how long he thought he was committed to playing on the PGA Tour.

“I’m trying to keep my card out here. It’s not easy. I’ve not had the greatest of starts, or after an alright start, I’ve not played the way I wanted to play. I want to be one of the best players in the world, so whatever I’ve got to play, I’ll play, whether it’s in the U.S., whether it’s in Europe, whether it’s further afield. It doesn’t faze me. I’m used to traveling.”

“Is that why you came to the U.S. and the PGA Tour, to try to be the best in the world, and how difficult of a decision was it actually to make to actually pull the trigger?” he was asked.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision. The world ranking points, the financial gain and the practice facilities, it can only benefit me if I play good golf.

“I can go back to European tour anytime I want. I’ve obviously got that grace period with the 10 cards that we’ve got this year, and I’ve obviously got one in the back pocket from playing Ryder Cup. I’m comfortable. I’m just trying to become one of the best players in the world.

“I don’t know what limit I’ve got in golf. I don’t know where my limit is. I’m just trying my best every day to accept what score I get and work harder.”

The European leg of the Eras Tour is finally here. After a two-month hiatus, Taylor Swift is refreshing her setlist following the release of The Tortured Poets Department. Read on for the updated setlist for the Eras Tour (so far) in Paris .

On May 9, Swift performed her first of four shows in Paris to kick off the European leg of her high-grossing tour. Throughout the three-hour set, Swifties took note of various changes to the performance, including new glittery outfits and the addition of tracks from her latest album, TTPD .

The most notable change of the night was when Swift added seven tracks from her latest album to her setlist. This included abbreviated renditions of "But Daddy I Love Him," "Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?", "Fortnight," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," and "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart," along with samples from "So High School" and "Down Bad."

Unfortunately, Swift had to trim some tracks from her lengthy set to make room for the new songs. Songs that were dropped include “The Archer,” “The Last Great American Dynasty,” “The 1,” “’Tis the Damn Season,” and “Tolerate It.”

Swift also switched up the sequence of her eras by moving the Red era earlier in the setlist and shifting the reputation era to a later slot. Additionally, she merged the Folklore and evermore eras together. “On The Eras Tour we have now reunited the sisters!” she told the audience. “You can call it Folklore , Evermore or you can call it the sister albums!”

Also, when the singer enters her Speak Now era, there is a new transition with florals on the screen while her dancers perform a new routine before she sings “Enchanted” (which was previously “Long Live,” which she added mid-tour last year).

Faith Popcorn, thought leader, trend-spotter and flamboyant futurist, never saw townhouse ownership in her own future.

In the early 1990s, Ms. Popcorn (originally Plotkin) was living in a small studio apartment with a Murphy bed, a rental turned co-op. She felt wonderfully comfortable there — until a friend from California, who “had this gorgeous place in Beverly Hills,” came to visit. “She embarrassed me,” Ms. Popcorn recalled. “She said: ‘You are moving! This is ridiculous.’”

The implicit message: Ms. Popcorn needed at long last to act like an adult.

She is, in fact, skittish about revealing her age, preferring to say she is a decade younger than Willie Nelson, whom she adores and who just turned 91. (Go ahead and do the math — we’ll wait.) But Ms. Popcorn is happy to have it known that her consulting firm, BrainReserve , which provides marketing advice to companies like PepsiCo, Home Depot, Pfizer, American Express and Comcast, celebrates its 50th anniversary this month. These days, she works from home: The Upper East Side townhouse she bought in 1995 serves as home and headquarters.

“We’ve had so many different kinds of people here, company presidents and chairmen, no names but heads of countries,” Ms. Popcorn said. “We brainstorm. We think together.” And because many of BrainReserve’s clients run Fortune 500 companies, and many of those top executives are men, the house is decorated in a sort of corporate baronial style.

“I chose the furniture with the goal in mind of making men comfortable,” Ms. Popcorn said of the custom-made sofas and chairs , many tufted and all upholstered in velvet. “It’s not about big and small but about neutral colors.”

There is blue-gray velvet in the ground-floor entryway and taupe velvet in the second-floor living room, a space that can seat 18.

Red roses sit in a Palissy-style ceramic vase that has three-dimensional lizards on it. The vase sits on the mantelpiece with a large classical painting behind it.

Ms. Popcorn owns more than 35 pieces of Palissy majolica , between the townhouse and her home in Wainscott, N.Y. She became interested in the ceramic style after reading about it in Proust’s “Remembrance of Things Past.” “I love animals of all shapes and kinds,” she said, “and Palissy’s vases and plates with snakes, fish, lizards and snails lying pondside celebrate abundant animal life.”

The Pullman kitchen between the living room and the dining room, one of three kitchens in the house, is hidden by a wine-colored velvet curtain.

A silver bar cart next to the stairs is stocked with liquors, mixers, bottles of Pellegrino, glasses of various shapes, bar tools and a silver pitcher. At one end of the cart is a vase full of red roses.

But the silver bar cart , about the size of a vintage Volkswagen, is out by the staircase, fully stocked and always open for business.

As soon as she found this narrow five-story stucco building in Lenox Hill, Ms. Popcorn was a goner. “It was like a canal house,” she said. “Beautiful.”

The real estate agent said it was in foreclosure. Ms. Popcorn said she didn’t have any money. But her company was doing well, and she ran the numbers: If she gave up her office space on Madison Avenue and moved operations to the house, she could swing it.

“I didn’t realize at the time that the house needed everything ,” Ms. Popcorn said. “I made so many rookie errors. It was the longest closing in Citibank history. I didn’t have the guts. I thought, Oh, I’ll just lose the 10 percent deposit.”

But, Ms. Popcorn continued, “I squeaked through somehow, and then I was so happy because a couple of years later, I adopted my first daughter.” Later, she adopted another daughter. Their childhood portraits, painted by Joe Duffy, an artist and designer, are on display in the dining room on the second floor.

Ms. Popcorn bought the Warhol prints from the writer Fran Lebowitz. “She must have needed the money,” Ms. Popcorn said. “I know they were for sale, and at the time I didn’t have any money. I really did not have money, and I think Fran wanted $1,000 a piece for them. But a friend told me, ‘Buy them.’ Everything seems cheap in retrospect.”

Ms. Popcorn is fond of saying she lives above the store. In fact, her bedroom and study are above the living room and dining room, the site of business meetings and business meals.

Several dark green Palissy-style ceramic vases with various three-dimensional creatures on them sit on the stone mantelpiece.

There’s more Palissy majolica above the fireplace.

When Ms. Popcorn was worried about taking on the expense of the house, her sister told her that their grandmother, who had owned several buildings in Lower Manhattan, would have wanted her to have it. That fortified her to complete the transaction and to undertake a comprehensive renovation.

Standing on the terrace, she said, “At some point I realized that my bedroom here was at exactly the tree line of where it was when I stayed at my grandmother’s apartment.”

In the ’80s, Ms. Popcorn accurately foretold the trends of “cocooning,” the desire to isolate from a scary world, and “icon toppling,” the rejection of pillars of society like government and religion. Another term she coined, “cashing out,” from the early 1990s, recognized the eagerness to find work/life balance — and to leave the corporate world altogether. And Ms. Popcorn came up with “AtmosFear” long before climate change and Covid-19 became front-page news.

Visitors to the home seem to expect something straight out of tomorrowland. “Everybody who comes here is like, ‘Oh!’” Ms. Popcorn noted. “Maybe they’re surprised it’s retro. But I didn’t want clients to be in something that felt like a spaceship. I felt I should put them in an unchallenging, comfortable place not defined by time.”

It’s clear from the look of her study on the third floor that Ms. Popcorn, too, prizes comfort. Throw pillows crowd the sofa. More velvet — here, it’s claret-colored. Several pieces of majolica are on the mantelpiece …

Several ceramic Japanese Chins, a pop art print of four Japanese Chins in a grid, colorful vases and a painting of a monkey sit on a stone mantelpiece in the study.

… along with ceramic Japanese Chins , a tribute to the seven members of the breed Ms. Popcorn has had over the years.

Framed black-and-white photographs of Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall and Judy Garland, along with a line drawing, hang on a white wall in the study.

Behind her desk are photos of Judy Garland . “When I was young, people told me I looked like her,” she said.

Guests tend to fall into one of two categories: friends running away from their own homes (there’s a very nice guest room with a compact kitchen on the top floor) or clients buffeted by ill winds and tough choices.

“We’re helping them reposition their companies,” Ms. Popcorn said. “No matter what decade you’re in, the future is painful because the future means change. It means rethinking things. Sometimes it means they have to buy new technology. It means figuring out if they have enough of this or that thing.”

Ms. Popcorn likens her house to a refined version of the Factory, Andy Warhol’s New York City studio. “I love the fact that he worked there, he entertained there, he was crazy there,” she said. “My feeling is that if you love your work and you love your life, there is no need to separate them. It’s one big, beautiful thing.”

The State of Real Estate

Whether you’re renting, buying or selling, here’s a look at real estate trends..

A couple’s tiny cabin in the Catskills, one of the few extant examples of a popular 1970s design, had no heat or toilet . But it was theirs for $85,000.

Fueled by the public’s love of reality TV and desire to view luxury homes,  real estate agents are chasing fame  as fervently as they chase deals.

Property is generally worth less if it’s owned by a Black American. Here’s how the “Black tax” has affected homeownership  for Black Americans.

Your first look at Lufthansa's Allegris aircraft, with new seating in all cabins and a shock in first class

Ben Smithson

Seven years after it was first announced, the wait is finally over.

Lufthansa's first aircraft equipped with the carrier's new " Allegris " cabin has landed, with new seats in all classes. TPG got a sneak peek Thursday in Munich.

The inaugural flight featuring the new Lufthansa cabin is scheduled to depart Wednesday from Munich Airport (MUC) to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in Canada. Service on Allegris aircraft will continue to roll out in the coming months to Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ), Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD), Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) as the airline receives more aircraft fitted with the new seats.

Want more airline-specific news? Sign up for TPG's free biweekly Aviation newsletter .

Vancouver was chosen over high-profile routes like John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York and Washington's Dulles International Airport (IAD) as the first destination in part because that route typically has less demand for first class.

By the end of 2027, Lufthansa expects to have installed 27,000 new seats across 120 long-haul aircraft as part of the airline's 2-billion-euro investment in the passenger experience. Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter told TPG the airline purposely sourced seats from several competing seat manufacturers so they were not reliant on a single supplier, given how delayed the product already is.

First class

First up, some bad news and what will likely come as a shock to passengers at the front of the cabin.

Due to manufacturing and certification delays, the new first-class suites were not installed on Lufthansa's first Allegris-equipped Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Ritter was understandably frustrated by this delay, explaining that while good things come to those who wait, his patience has worn thin.

first beige tour

Instead, the front of the A350 cabin, where the three suites will be installed at a later date, has a single row of economy-class seats that will temporarily fill the space and will not be bookable. They will remain blocked like this until replaced by the first class suites.

first beige tour

Ritter told TPG that while he expects the first-class seats to be ready to be installed by late August or early September, they will go first into newly delivered aircraft, and then those existing A350s and 747s undergoing top-to-tail refurbishments.

Lufthansa's eight-strong Airbus A380 fleet will not get new Allegris seats in any class.

As for the aircraft being delivered with the empty space at the front of the cabin, like the bird we toured, the seats will only be installed when the aircraft is taken out of service for routine maintenance periods of six weeks, so for a factory-fresh A350, this rather awkward space will likely be flying for some time.

first beige tour

Lufthansa also told TPG that while the middle seat of the first-class cabin will have a double bed, making it one of the most luxurious suites in the sky, and can be booked by two passengers, they will only be able to enter and exit the suite through the left-hand side.

This will mean one passenger will have to climb over the other if they wish to use the bathroom while their traveling companion sleeps, which is not a very first-class experience.

first beige tour

While undoubtedly opulent for a single passenger, the center suite does seem tight for two adult passengers sharing it.

Business class

It's a more positive report from the business-class cabin.

The Allegris cabin has seven different seating types, all of which have been installed on the new aircraft and are ready to fly. These include:

  • Suites in the first row (double suite inside, single suites by the window).
  • Extra-space seat.
  • Window seat.
  • Seat with an extra-long bed measuring more than 7 feet.
  • Privacy window seat with baby bassinet.
  • Double seat. (In the last row of business class, two neighboring seats with a smaller distance between them can be combined to form a double berth using a retractable center console.)
  • Regular seat.

I was impressed to see that a row of minisuites has been installed in both the front and second business-class cabins.

first beige tour

Other airlines that have chosen to create a premium space like this in their business-class cabin, like Virgin Atlantic's Retreat Suite , have only installed these seats in the very front cabin.

first beige tour

The high walls of these seats provide excellent privacy, akin to Qatar Airways' award-winning Qsuite business class, and if you have your choice of any seat in the cabin, these would be the ones to aim for.

Also desirable are the "extra space" seats, where Lufthansa has taken inspiration from sister airline Swiss' "throne seats," with plenty of space on each side of the seat for personal items and electronics.

first beige tour

Passengers can only enter and exit these throne seats from one side.

There are no "bad" seats in the Allegris business-class cabin; all have decent privacy and personal space.

The beige walls are a little drab, though the rich Lufthansa blue does provide pops of color.

first beige tour

I sat in a few different seats, and except for the minisuites, the walls around the seats weren't high enough to provide a lot of privacy, a common feature of new business-class seats across different airlines.

first beige tour

Some neat features in business class included stylish individual reading lamps, wireless charging and rollaway storage lockers for headphones, water bottles and personal electronics.

first beige tour

Also of note: a large touchscreen display panel to adjust the seat, pair your devices or choose which movie to watch next.

first beige tour

The inflight entertainment screens, while modern and crisp, do feel a little small given how large many of the seats are, though the airline promises the screens in first class will be a whopping 43 inches.

first beige tour

Premium economy

The premium economy cabin, spread across three rows at the windows and four rows in the middle, has a 2-3-2 layout.

first beige tour

Following the new Swiss premium economy seat design, Lufthansa's new seats have a fixed-shell design, with the seat sliding forward rather than reclining backward.

first beige tour

Unfortunately, Lufthansa has decided not to install a curtain to make this class of service a separate cabin, as most other airlines do. This seems like a missed opportunity to elevate the product, as I recently noted when I flew premium economy on the older 747 .

first beige tour

That being said, Lufthansa has significantly elevated the bedding provided to passengers with plush, thick blankets, noise-canceling headphones, and wireless charging now offered.

first beige tour

Economy class is laid out in an industry-standard 3-3-3 configuration with 31 inches of legroom.

first beige tour

The inflight entertainment screens are large and have crisp displays, with a fold-down ledge if passengers prefer to stream content from their devices and Bluetooth capability to connect their headphones.

first beige tour

As far as economy-class seats go, these look about as good as it gets to Europe and beyond.

first beige tour

Food and beverage

Passengers in business class will now be served an amuse-bouche before the meal, with a small bowl of cheese and olives on display for the preview event.

first beige tour

A new bread offering, specially developed by 2022 World Baker of the Year Axel Schmitt, will be offered on Allegris flights departing Germany. Schmitt advised us, "You've never tasted bread like this in the air," because it is designed to continue to rise at altitude for ultimate freshness and lightness. I tried a sample of the new bread at the event, and the master baker hurried to warn me that it didn't taste as good on the ground. It was tasty, if not life-changing.

first beige tour

Lufthansa has also partnered with Ziegler Distillery to create a new aperitif cocktail for premium passengers named "Avionic," which combines juicy peaches, fresh citrus notes, subtle wild meadow herbs and marigolds.

first beige tour

New concept lounges

Lufthansa also revealed the next generation of airport lounge design. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) will be the first to see the new style, with a first-class dining area and central bar for all guests to socialize and unwind before a transatlantic flight. Following Newark, next to see the concept will be the new terminal at JFK, followed by Stuttgart Airport (STR) and then Dulles.

first beige tour

Lufthansa's current lounge design is corporate and functional, so it's great to see modern pops of color and design in the new style.

first beige tour

Bottom line

After so many years of waiting for this product, it was great to finally see it in the flesh on board a shiny new Airbus A350. The empty first-class cabin space is a frustrating and somewhat embarrassing reminder to the airline and passengers that despite seven years of planning, the execution has not come together in time.

The business-class seats are a huge improvement over the current, exposed 2-2-2 layout, and the minisuites at the front of each cabin are terrific, with high walls, plenty of space and privacy. Segmenting the cabin into many product types will challenge the airline to market and allocate, especially as it intends to charge extra for the best seats.

But, for now, those lucky passengers on an Allegris aircraft can select any seats in the cabin for free.

Farther back in premium economy and economy, both classes look solid.

Stay tuned for coverage of Lufthansa's maiden Allegris flight to Vancouver next week.
