Foo Fighters Have Announced A Huge Glasgow Gig As Part Of Their Next Tour

The announcement follows the band's surprise appearance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury last Friday, masquerading as 'The Churnups', to which they travelled by train.

Emmeline Banks

All eyes were on Glastonbury this weekend as Worthy Farm hosted headline slots from third-timers Arctic Monkeys and last-timer Elton John , but many held the most anticipation for a band called ‘The Churnups’… who turned out to be the legendary Foo Fighters . Following their surprise set, the band has announced a huge UK leg of their Everything or Nothing at All tour for 2024 , and Foo Fighters will be rocking Glasgow at Hampden Park to kick it all off on June 17, 2024 .

With stadium-fillers such as All My Life , My Hero and Everlong , Foo Fighters belong on the biggest stages in the world, bringing 2000s rock to audiences of all ages. Frontman Dave Grohl has proved himself to be the sweetheart of rock , and an adoptee of British culture, not least by the fact he led the band onto a Great Western train to reach the legendary festival.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Foo Fighters (@foofighters)

The 2024 tour of UK stadiums, hitting London, Cardiff, Birmingham and Glasgow, will be the first since the band lost beloved drummer Taylor Hawkins just last year after suffering a heart attack, and Foo Fighters are sure to keep his memory alive in Manchester as they have been doing ever since. Their Glastonbury set concluded with the emotional anthem Everlong , which was dedicated to Hawkins, and his memory is never far from the band’s performances.

Hampden Park in Glasgow seems the perfect place to host the band, with a 51,000 capacity and a long string of massive events having taken place there, such as Coldplay last August , 2022. As usual, Foo Fighters are in good company in Glasgow.

emirates-old-trafford-crowd-sunset

Supporting the rockers in Glasgow on June 17, 2024, will be Isle of Wight duo Wet Leg and up-and-coming Manchester band Loose Articles , ensuring a night full of great vibes and wonderful music. Presale for tickets begins on Wednesday, June 28 at 9am and ends on Thursday, June 29 at 10pm , with general sale starting from Friday, 30 June at 9am here .

Foo Fighters Announce 2024 UK Stadium Tour

By Jazz Monroe

Foo Fighters Dave Grohl

Foo Fighters will tour British stadiums in June 2024, with a support bill that includes Wet Leg and Courtney Barnett at select dates. The announcement of shows in Manchester, Glasgow, London, Cardiff, and Birmingham follows the poorly kept secret that was the band’s unlisted Pyramid stage performance, last Friday, at Glastonbury . On stage, Grohl promised that the band would be back next year, not saying whether he meant to England or to Glastonbury itself. The dates announced today, which you can see below, run from June 13 to 27, meaning Foo Fighters will at least be in the country around the festival.

Foo Fighters returned this year with But Here We Are , their first album since the sudden death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. They have been performing with Josh Freese , who was announced last month as Hawkins’ replacement.

Foo Fighters announce June 2024 UK stadium tour

They play six epic shows

Fresh from storming Glastonbury last Friday, Foo Fighters have announced a UK stadium tour for June 2024.

Dave Grohl , Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Rami Jaffee and Josh Freese will play a total of six gargantuan shows on the Everything Or Nothing At All Tour.

The tour opens at Manchester Emirates Old Trafford on 13th June and visits Glasgow Hampden Park, two nights at London Stadium, Cardiff Principality Stadium and Birmingham Villa Park.

Tickets to Foo Fighters’ stadium tour will be extremely high in demand when they go on sale from Absolute Radio Tickets at 9am on Friday 30th June.

Support on Foo Fighters’ Everything or Nothing at All UK Tour will come from Wet Leg, Courtney Barnett, Himalayas, Honeyblood, Hot Milk and Shame.

Foo Fighters were due to play a UK stadium tour in June and July 2022, however all dates were cancelled following the untimely death of drummer Taylor Hawkins .

With Josh Freese newly recruited as their drummer , Foo Fighters made their live return in May at a series of shows across North America last month.

They also headlined Germany’s Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park before their coveted ‘secret’ slot on The Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury .

The Foos are currently touring their “emotionally raw” 11th studio album ‘But Here We Are’ , which debuted at Number 1 in the UK on 9th June just ahead of Noel Gallagher’s ‘Council Skies' .

Dedicated to Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl’s late mum Virginia, ‘But Here We Are’ has spawned the singles ‘Rescued’, ‘Under You’, ‘Show Me How’, ‘The Teacher’ and ‘The Glass.’

Foo Fighters’ UK tour dates:

Manchester Emirates Old Trafford – 13th

Glasgow Hampden Park – 17th

London Stadium – 20th

London Stadium – 22nd

Cardiff Principality Stadium – 25th

Birmingham Villa Park – 27th

JOSH FREESE On Being Asked To Join FOO FIGHTERS: 'It Felt Like Someone Kind Of Socked Me In The Stomach'

Josh Freese , who officially became FOO FIGHTERS ' new drummer a year ago, filling the vacancy left by the late Taylor Hawkins , spoke to producer and YouTuber Rick Beato about how he landed the coveted gig. He said in part (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET ): "On my children's lives, I had zero plans of being called to be the drummer. And everyone and their mother — my neighbor walking the dog, 'Hey Josh , the FOO FIGHTERS call you yet?' Other people hitting me up, other drummers, Reddit forums, ' Josh Freese is gonna be the guy.' I'm going, 'I don't even know if they're gonna continue on [after Taylor 's death].' And most people I knew said, 'Oh, they're gonna have to. They're gonna figure it out.' I was, like, 'Well, maybe. Who knows?' I didn't ask them that question during those [ Taylor Hawkins ] tribute [concerts in September 2022]. Once again, I wanted to give everybody space. I wasn't gonna be another guy coming at Dave [ Grohl , FOO FIGHTERS frontman], going, 'So dude, if you need a drummer, I'm around. I'm just saying.' I didn't mention it once, and was busy enough and making a good enough living already that I wasn't freaked out about it. I wasn't going, 'God, I hope they call. I hope they call.' I was, like, 'You know what? Whatever happens is gonna happen.' And that's how I kind of like to roll."

He continued: "Months went on after that second, L.A. [ Taylor Hawkins tribute concert]. I guess it was September [2022 when the two shows took place]. And Dave had said that he'd written a bunch of songs. He was gonna record a bunch of stuff after those shows. So, cool. So it sounded like he was gonna make a record. And then I guess it was right before Christmas that year, 2022, and I got a call from him. I got a missed call. I was on a walk with my wife and some of our dogs, and I go, 'Ah, Dave just tried calling me like 20 minutes ago.' And she's, like, 'I know why he's calling you.' I was, like, 'Easy. I'm not thinking that.' I swear to God, that's not why I thought. I go, 'You know what? He might be having a New Year's Eve party. He might be doing a project where he has all those drummer friends of ours that perform at the thing, we each play a track. He could be calling me for numerous reasons, but I'm not gonna pretend like that's why he's calling me.' I called him back, and we small-talked about Christmas and our kids and do they still believe in Santa Claus ? And who's the hardest to shop for? And just this silly small-talk family stuff, if anything. I said, 'Hey, did you go record?' He goes, 'Yeah, we recorded a bunch of stuff. And I played drums, and I'm really happy with the way it sounds. I'm really excited about it. And we had the drummer talk. And we want you to be the guy.' And it felt like someone kind of socked me in the stomach. I didn't go, 'Wow, yippee, this is so cool.' I didn't get excited like that. It was almost like I got the wind knocked out of me. And I was, like, 'Oh my God.' I was, like, 'Here we go.' 'Cause I knew… I had time to think about it and all that, but I was, like, come on. After the holidays, Dave and I got together and talked and he played me the new record, we were talking, and even there's sometimes when you go, 'You know you've gotta do this, right?'"

Freese went on to say that he had no doubt he would accept the offer to become FOO FIGHTERS ' new drummer. "It couldn't have gone down any other way after being asked, and being asked by someone that I've respected forever, not just as a songwriter and a singer/guitarist, but as a drummer," Josh explained. "First and foremost for me, Dave is such a bad motherfucker, man. And he just innately has this thing. That stuff can't be taught; it just can't be taught. You can try to explain it to somebody, but you're either gonna do it or you're not. And he was blessed with being able to do it and just deliver. So, for me, as a drummer, it's great. And I used to talk about it with Taylor all the time. He was, like, 'Oh, man, it's so cool. Look at Dave .' He loved Dave 's drumming, and we'd talk about it."

Freese continued: "I've made records with bands where the singer maybe used to play drums. But Dave 's a drummer's drummer. And so it's not, like, 'Oh, yeah, he used to play drums.' Nah, he's the drummer. And I've tried to let that be a source of inspiration and excitement when I'm playing with him and playing in a band with him rather than letting it intimidate me or freak me out. 'Cause if you start going down that path, it could intimidate you and freak you out. 'My God, I'm Dave Grohl 's drummer.' But he makes it so comfortable and good and natural, the way we play together. And as a drummer, his rhythm is great. Most bands, when you've got a break, you've got a four-bar break and the guitar is playing, I'm making sure to keep that time on the hi-hat. [With Dave , I] never have to [do that]. It's right there all the time. Ah, it's so cool. It's so cool. And when he turns around and we lock in, luckily — maybe one day it will become nerve racking — it's never been nerve racking for me. It's always fun and exciting, 'cause it's kind of laid out that way. It's not some heavy trip or weird thing. It's just all good. It's all good stuff."

FOO FIGHTERS revealed Freese as part of its touring lineup on May 21, 2023 during a pre-tour livestream called "Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts" . Freese was unveiled as the drummer during the livestream after comedic cameos by Chad Smith of RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS , Tommy Lee of MÖTLEY CRÜE and Danny Carey of TOOL .

Prior to joining the FOO FIGHTERS , Freese had most recently been drumming for Danny Elfman but was recently replaced by Ilan Rubin . Freese was also touring with THE OFFSPRING up until 2022, with former SUICIDAL TENDENCIES drummer Brandon Pertzborn stepping in to officially replace him.

Freese is a veteran session drummer who has performed with GUNS N' ROSES , A PERFECT CIRCLE , PUDDLE OF MUDD , NINE INCH NAILS , WEEZER , PARAMORE , THE REPLACEMENTS , Sting and THE VANDALS , among many others. He has also played more than 300 recordings ranging in genres from pop to rock to country.

FOO FIGHTERS ' 11th album, "But Here We Are" , was released in June 2023 on Roswell / RCA .

Hawkins tragically passed away in March 2022 at the age of 50.

Hawkins was found dead in a hotel room in Colombia, shortly before FOO FIGHTERS were due to play a festival in Bogotá. No cause of death was ever announced.

Hawkins had been the FOO FIGHTERS drummer for 25 years, taking over from original drummer William Goldsmith in 1997. He is survived by his wife Alison and their three children.

FOO FIGHTERS staged two tribute concerts in honor of Hawkins . The first tribute concert took place September 3, 2022 at London's Wembley Stadium. A Los Angeles concert was held on September 27, 2022 and raised money for Musicares and Music Support charities and served as a farewell party for Hawkins 's adopted hometown.

Other notable tributes to come in the months following Hawkins 's death included a segment at the 2022 Grammy Awards , a drum circle in Taylor 's hometown, and a live performance of the FOO FIGHTERS song "My Hero" by more than 1,000 musicians.

HellFest returned in 2022 after being forced to cancel its 2020 and 2021 edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival returned over two weekends in 2022, where the likes of Guns N’ Roses , Metallica,  Nine Inch Nails ,  Deftones ,  Alice Cooper , Steel Panther,  Judas Priest  and  Korn  performed.

Metallica recently performed their penultimate live gig of 2023, which saw  Kirk Hammett fall on the stage before tossing his guitar during the band’s November 12 show at the Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

They’ll be performing in Saudi Arabia for the first time ever at Soundstorm Festival on December 14, before they pick up their ‘M72′ world tour again on May 24, 2024 in Munich, Germany.

In other news from HellFest 2024 headliners, The Prodigy completed a European tour this month, which included two nights at Alexandra Palace in London over the weekend.

The band recently changed the controversial lyrics to their hit song ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ . The 1997 song originally sparked backlash for the lyrics, which some said celebrated violence against women.

Elsewhere, both Queens Of The Stone Age and Avenged Sevenfold are set to also headline   Download Festival 2024.

Imagine Dragons announce 2024 tour. Get tickets today

You won’t have to imagine an Imagine Dragons tour this year.

The “Radioactive” rockers just announced a nationwide tour in support of their upcoming seventh studio album “Loom.”

Starting in late July, the high-octane trio will kick off the run with back-to-back stops at Camden, NJ’s Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on Tuesday, July 30, Wantagh, NY’s Jones Beach Theater on Friday, Aug. 2 and Holmdel, NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center on Sunday, Aug. 4.

While fans will likely hear cuts from their sizable stable of hits — as well as tracks from the new record which is due out June 28 — the band wants their audience to attend shows for the communal experience.

“It’s just a lot of people in a room together realizing they’re not alone in their feelings,” lead singer Dan Reynolds told AP News . “I don’t necessarily need them to feel happy or sad or anything. I just want them to look around them and see that other people are also feeling something.”

If that sounds like the spiritual show for you, tickets are available for all upcoming Imagine Dragons concerts as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 26, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues and links to buy tickets can be found below.

Most recently, Imagine Dragons headlined at Dallas, TX’s South Side Ballroom on April 13, 2024.

Here’s what they performed that night, courtesy of Set List FM :

01.) “Believer”

02.) “It’s Time”

03.) “Thunder”

04.) “Birds”

05.) “Follow You”

06.) “Shots”

07.) “Natural”

08.) “Whatever It Takes”

09.) “Sharks”

10.) “Enemy”

11.) “Bad Liar”

12.) “Demons”

13.) “On Top of the World”

14.) “Bones”

15.) “Eyes Closed”

16.) “Walking the Wire”

17.) “Radioactive”

Ahead of the album release, Imagine Dragons dropped the quirky single “Eyes Closed,” which walks the line between rock and Hip-Hop, effortlessly switching between the genres, verse by verse.

For our money, the brooding three-minute track fits squarely into the band’s catalog of sonically adventurous anthems.

Sound like the jam for you?

You can check out “Eyes Closed” here .

For those about to rock, we salute you.

We also want to recommend a few shows if you don’t mind.

In addition to Imagine Dragons, here are just five more iconic acts you won’t want to miss live these next few months.

Foo Fighters give rare performance of 'New Way Home,' introduce new drummer at DC concert

foo fighters tour glasgow 2024

WASHINGTON – It wasn’t until the final quartet of songs that Dave Grohl mentioned Taylor Hawkins.

For two and a half hours, the Foo Fighters thundered and sweated through a 22-song set list, most of them classics ( “My Hero,” “Learn to Fly,” “Big Me”) and a few new heartbreakers from “But Here We Are,” the band’s first album since Hawkins’ March 2022 death, out Friday.

But Foo Fighters’ Tuesday performance was an anomaly in many ways. This was only the band’s second proper concert since reconvening without Hawkins and its location was filled with meaning for Grohl.

It was, as the vigorous frontman noted before his quiet dedication to Hawkins, “a really weird week.”

Foo Fighters christen intimate venue in DC

Foo Fighters were tapped to open The Atlantis , a snug, 450-capacity venue in D.C. built as a replica of the original 9:30 Club (also called The Atlantis when it opened in 1980), the famed venue that shares the sidewalk.

Grohl, a product of nearby Springfield , Virginia, regularly attended shows at the initial location as a teenager and recalled seeing musicians wh o became his “heroes.” Fittingly, punk singer Peter Stahl of Grohl’s early band, Scream, joined the Foos onstage for an opening blast of Bad Brains’ “At the Atlantis.”

Earlier Tuesday, a life-size sculpture of Grohl was unveiled – “one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life,” he joked from the stage – and the emotional cloud that followed him through the day “surrounded by friends and family” led to him conclude “just getting up here and (performing) again” wouldn’t have happened without the support of the band’s fans.

How are Foo Fighters paying tribute to Taylor Hawkins in concert?

Coming out of Foo Fighters’ scream-filled rager “Monkey Wrench,” with a snippet of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll” tossed in to close the song, Grohl turned pensive.

“Not a day goes by that we don’t think about him,” Grohl said. “This one’s for T.”

The pretty guitar opening of “Aurora,” from Foo Fighters’ 1999 album, “There is Nothing Left to Lose,” reverberated as subdued blue and teal lights faded in and out over the song’s mesmerizing cadence.

The follow-up, the infrequently played “New Way Home” from 1997’s “The Colour and the Shape,” also felt tinged with Hawkins-related meaning with lyrics such as “I’m still trying to keep this time from running out/head down, always moving on and on.”

But regardless of specific mentions of the late drummer , the entire concert felt like a catharsis for the band.

With guitarist Chris Shiflett and keyboardist Rami Jaffee flanking Grohl on the right, guitarist Pat Smear, bassist Nate Mendel on his left and new drummer Josh Freese behind Grohl on the compact stage, the band unleashed plenty of emotion, but also appeared to thoroughly enjoy being in each other’s company.

Foo Fighters introduce new drummer Josh Freese

Grohl was in his usual state of shaggy, his long dark locks matted with perspiration before he finished slamming through the opening “This is a Call,” the first of many aggressive rockers to dot the hits-filled set.

Freese, a veteran of bands including The Vandals and Nine Inch Nails, is a locomotive slinger whose muscular drumming bulldozed with a nonstop blitz during “Learn to Fly” and a ricocheting snare drum throughout “All My Life.”

Grohl’s daughter, Violet, 17, joined her dad with her own robust vocals on “Shame Shame,” one of the slinkier songs in the Foos catalog.

“She makes everything better,” a proud Grohl said, smiling at his progeny.

Are the Foo Fighters’ new songs about Taylor Hawkins?

The band’s 11th studio album arrives with 10 songs almost expressly about loss, grieving and the struggle to move on.

“Under You,” Grohl’s most blatant love letter to Hawkins, soared with its inspired pop chorus, while “Rescued,” which opens the album and made an early appearance at Tuesday's show, couches its pain-filled lyrics (“It came in a flash, it came out of nowhere/it happened so fast, and then it was over”) in a pillow-y melody.

As the band prepares for a full-fledged tour kicking off in mid-June – including high-profile slots at Bonnaroo June 18 and Riot Fest in Chicago Sept. 15 – they will undoubtedly sprinkle in more songs from the memorable and meaningful “But Here We Are.”

Prepare for a visceral performance with the purpose of release as Foo Fighters continue to edge down their new path.
