Before this tour, please meet at the café at Jökulsárlón 20 minutes before your departure, where you can exchange your vouchers for amphibian boat tickets. From here, you will proceed to board the amphibious vessel on land and wait for it to drive into the lagoon.

When immersed in the lagoon, with huge icebergs surrounding you from all angles, you will experience a different kind of beauty; this stunning environment is simply breathtaking.

You will spend 35-40 minutes exploring the glacier lagoon. Your English-speaking guide on board will tell you all about the area’s history and future. You will have an opportunity to taste the glacier ice; considering it is thought to be a thousand years old, this is quite a special experience.

Fjallsárlón Lagoon

Glacier Tours in Iceland, Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon - Iceland Tours Booking

Vatnajokull, Iceland’s largest and Europe’s most voluminous glacier, has given rise to a multitude of glacial marvels, with the renowned Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon being the most celebrated of them all. As the Breidamerkurjökull glacier tongue breaks apart, its glacial meltwater feeds the lake below, causing colossal ice blocks to gracefully meander through the cerulean lagoon, eventually drifting towards the ocean. This natural spectacle ensures that Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon’s appearance is in a constant state of transformation.

During the summer, this lagoon serves as a natural haven for wildlife, offering a chance to glimpse seals swimming or resting on icebergs, while Arctic Terns fill the air with their cheerful chirping.

Situated within the magnificent Vatnajökull National Park, this area is a true paradise for nature enthusiasts. In winter, the captivating blue ice caves take center stage, captivating visitors year-round. Its distinctive beauty has also captivated the attention of filmmakers, with two James Bond movies among those inspired by its allure.

Diamond beach

Adjacent to the glacier lagoon, the Diamond Beach derives its name from the captivating juxtaposition of velvety black sands and shimmering ice fragments. Various shapes and sizes of icebergs grace the beach, remaining serenely as waves ebb and flow, weaving a mesmerizing symphony of nature unique to Iceland. This awe-inspiring location serves as a beloved haven for photographers and nature enthusiasts, offering an extraordinary exploration of Iceland’s wonders.

At this point, you’ll fasten your flotation suit or life vest and prepare for an incredible Icelandic glacier tour, taking you to Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier and the deep serenity of the lagoon.

Drifting between these looming, curiously shaped icebergs on a Jökulsárlón Zodiac boat tour is an enchanting and otherworldly experience, enjoyed by photographers and adventurers alike. On the surface of the icebergs, you will see vibrant blue tones and gray veins, which were formed from ash residue as a result of various volcanic eruptions. Make sure to keep your camera ready at all times so that you’re able to catch the crystal-clear reflections of the icebergs on the surface of the water, as well as the humbling glacier scenery.

Over time, the appearance of the lagoon and surrounding areas could change drastically if the icebergs melt. So, if you’re planning to enjoy a Zodiac boat tour at the lagoon, we recommend making the best of your time here and exploring the area. Take the time to make the short walk to the nearby Diamond Beach. This black sand beach, officially called Breiðamerkursandur, is a truly hypnotic sight. Pieces of the icebergs at Jökulsárlón break off and float to this beach, resting and glistening against the black sand.

Another option would be the Landmannalaugar Safari on this tour you get to explore parts of the Icelandic highlands and bathe in natural hot springs. During their lifetime the trees absorb carbon and store it in their root system, trunk, and branches. Trees also prevent soil erosion and maintain the storage of carbon in the soil.

The Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon Zodiac Boat Tour

The Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon Zodiac Boat Tour is a great way to experience an iceberg boat tour in stunning surroundings. Often overlooked by visitors in favor of the larger Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, Fjallsárlón has been a well-kept secret in the South East. The lagoon offers beautiful views of Vatnajökull Glacier, the largest glacier in Europe.

After meeting your guide and group ( max. 10 persons per boat ), you’ll start off by suiting up in warm overalls. You’ll then walk down to the glacier lagoon and take off on your adventure. During the tour, you’ll glide amongst floating icebergs that break off the slowly crawling glacier. Each iceberg is unique in color and form and on a zodiac boat, you’ll get the chance to get up close to the best ones. Your experienced guide will also give you information about the glacier, as well as the landscape and history of the lagoon and it’s surrounding area.

The Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon Zodiac Boat Tour departs multiple times daily from 9:30 in the morning. In the high summer season, the last departure is at 17:30. You can easily combine this tour with another adventure, such as a glacier hike in Skaftafell.

Western Iceland is where you can find Snæfellsjökull National Park, home to the beautiful glacier.

Snæfellsjökull was declared a national park in 2001 and is only one of three national parks in the country .

Snæfellsjökull is described in Jules Verne's famous novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

There are several black sand beaches in Iceland that are truly a sight unlike any other.

A GUIDE TO SIGHTSEEING IN ITALY: A ROMAN ADVENTURE AWAITS YOU

One of these is Reynisfjara, a black sand beach good for seeing but not for swimming because of the cold water and strong currents that make it dangerous.

You can also see the sparkle of Diamond Beach while in Iceland. This black sand beach is full of diamond resembling ice, making the water shimmer and shine.

Again, Diamond Beach is another beautiful landmark, but avoid swimming in this water, mainly because of the icebergs that can cause injury.

Vatnajokull glacier is Europe's largest. You can explore the glacier on foot or rent a snowmobile to see more in a short time.

There are so many breathtaking ice caves to explore throughout the glacier.

Vatnajokull may look familiar to you, even if you haven't visited Iceland before, as it was featured in the HBO series "Game of Thrones" and two "James Bond" films.

Vatnajökull National Park is where you can find Skaftafell nature reserve. Skaftafell nature reserve has been a part of Vatnajökull National Park since 2008. Glacier lagoons, black sand and mesmerizing rock formations can all be found here.

EXPLORING THAILAND'S TAPESTRY OF TRADITION, ADVENTURE, TIMELESS BEAUTY

It is just about 45 minutes from Diamond Beach.

Taking a Golden Circle tour is a must-do activity on a trip to Iceland. The Golden Circle is a scenic route where you'll be able to see Iceland in all its beauty.

How much time you carve out for this depends on how long you want to spend at each stop. You can easily spend days exploring this area, or you can rent a car and spend a few hours driving around.

There are three main stops part of the Golden Circle: Thingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall.

Reykjavík is filled with bars and restaurants , making the city a great spot for thriving nightlife at the end of a busy day exploring.

While here, you can also visit Hallgrimskirkja Church and stop by one of the many local swimming pools throughout the city.

AUSTRALIA TRAVEL GUIDE: WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU VISIT THE LAND DOWN UNDER

Skogafoss waterfall is a breathtaking beauty you will not want to miss when traveling to Iceland.

Get your cameras ready for this stop, because you'll want to snap a picture of you in front of the enormous waterfall. It's not a bad idea to pack a pair of waterproof shoes on your visit.

You don't need to carve out too much time for this, 30 to 45 minutes will do. Rainbows are very common here, so keep your eye out for that, too.

While in Iceland, you'll most likely be able to cross "see the northern lights" off your bucket list.

Making a plan to see the colorful lights in the sky is a little tricky, since their occurrence is not super predictable. That said, visiting between September and April, when the nights are long and dark, will give you the best possibility of seeing the aurora borealis.
