Jace Everett (born May 27, 1972) is an American acoustic rock and country-inflected singer-songwriter and guitarist that has enjoyed consistent European success, hailing from Evansville, Indiana, U.S.
Born in Evansville, Indiana, Everett moved around regularly with his family in order for his father to secure work. From an early age the Indiana-native played music in his church and subsequently contributed to school concerts and performances. After graduating from high school the singer attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee before dropping out to tour with a pop cover band. A tumultuous period ensued for Everett, however in 2005 the singer-songwriter landed a deal with Epic Records, who issued his debut single “That’s The Kind of Love I’m In” in June 2005. The single charted at No. 52 on the Country Charts and paved the way for his debut, self-titled album in March 2006.
The album’s subsequent singles included “Bad Things”, “Nowhere in the Neighbourhood”, and “Everything I Want”, after which Everett received a Broadcast Music Incorporated Award for co-writing Josh Turner’s No. 1 Country Chart song, “Your Man”. Prior to the release of his second album, Everett’s single “Bad Things” was chosen as the theme song for the HBO series “True Blood”. The feature catapulted the singer to international notoriety, with the single charting in Norway, Sweden, and the UK.
The full-length “Old New Borrowed Blues” arrived in November 2008 on Western Records, followed by “Red Revelations” in 2009. The latter peaked at No. 12 on the Norwegian Albums Chart, aided by the Norwegian No. 2 re-released single “Bad Things”. Having signed with Hump Head Records in 2011, the singer-songwriter released his fourth full-length “Mr. Good Times” in September that year, followed by “Terra Rosa” in July 2013.
Live reviews
This singer, Craig Armstrong has such a list of accolades to his name that you wouldn’t believe. This guy has the most diverse looking audience, all looking as though they have come from all sorts of different walks of life. This guy co-wrote Josh Turner’s Number One Single, “Your Man”. He is also that baritone/bass voice behind the True Blood theme song “Bad Things” which oddly enough earned it’s highest chart position in Norway when it made number two in the charts over there.
Anyways back to this fantastic evening of live music bestowed on us this evening. The atmosphere is busy, with many people packing out this Middle America venue. There’s a point of the set when Everett plays “Bad Things” where the gathering go absolutely wild, singing the song that graces their TV screens every single week like clock work, so the lyrics to this song are truly embedded in their heads by now! It is no surprise that Everett knows exactly what he’s doing when playing his electric guitar.

I had never been to this venue so I didn’t know what to expect. I had enjoyed Jace Everett’s music for a few years (since the True Blood days).
Wow what an evening! Jace was friendly, approachable & very down to earth & that voice is like rich deep velvet.
The venue was excellent, intimate & cosy like my nan’s front parlour. Drinks were good value as was the ticket. I would love to see Jace again & would definitely like to see other events at the slaughtered Lamb.
Amazing evening last night in Leeds. Support act was superb but when Jace came on he blew us away with his music. Totally brilliant and funny too. So glad we got tickets...too good to miss.
The best live gig I've ever been too, absolutely fantastic night of great live music.
All the artists are excellent in their own right however Jace Everetts voice is quality.

True Blood theme song brought singer's career back from the dead: 'It's a mitzvah'
Jace Everett looks back on how his career was in a rough spot after his eponymous album failed, only to gain newfound notoriety when HBO tapped his song "Bad Things" as the True Blood theme.
Nashville-based singer Jace Everett was in a slump. He recorded a country album in 2004, but it failed upon release. By 2006, he had lost his record deal and was in what he refers to as a "tough spot financially." Everett was getting some income from his craft, having written a No. 1-charting song for a different artist, but he was forced to go back to playing bass in various bands to make ends meet.
Then True Blood happened. Everett credits the sexy, sultry HBO vampire drama starring Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer for revitalizing his career after the network chose his song "Bad Things," off that failed album of his, as its theme song.
"It's a mitzvah," he tells EW over the phone as part of a celebration of the best TV theme songs of the 21st century . "It's further proof that you can't control anything. All you can do is try to do the best you can. I've had plenty of ups and downs since then, but I've got Entertainment Weekly calling me today. That's crazy!"
The success of "Bad Things" still surprises Everett, since he wrote the track in about six minutes to try to seduce a woman. "There's nothing to it," he remarks. "It's a synthesis of, what, maybe 20 other songs? The thing that's unique about is the chord progression because of it being in a minor key. It's just an old swingin' blues-type thing that I put my own spin on. And that tends to be what people like: things they heard before."
Everett's label didn't quite like it at the time. They felt the song was "a little too this, a little too that." But Everett put it on his self-titled album anyway. Then the album bombed. The singer played "Bad Things" one time on The Tonight Show to try to drum up buzz, but that didn't move the needle much.
It wasn't until 2008, at a time when he was playing bass in a cover band, that HBO approached him. He got a call from True Blood 's music supervisor Gary Calamar, asking about using "Bad Things" for the opening theme. Calamar sent him a couple episodes, sans music, to see if there was any interest. Everett didn't know how the show would land, but he figured the song was just sitting there — "rotting," as he puts it.
Everett churned out multiple versions of the song as options. One, he remembers, had a Latin groove. Though, the songwriter admits he didn't have the skills as a young producer at the time to fully remix it.
When he finally saw the opening credits sequence, designed by Chicago-based Digital Kitchen, he was "flabbergasted."
"They did such an amazing job of making my song way cooler than it actually was. That [series creator] Alan Ball and Gary Calamar just kind of threw up their hands and said, 'Well, I guess this is it because I don't know how we're going to top this opening sequence' ... it really took a dozen different people to make it what it is. The song was cool. The visuals were cool, but when you put them together it sets up the show. The show could be scary, but also ridiculous and hilarious."
Everett is also credited with C.C. Adcock on the True Blood season 2 soundtrack for the song "Evil (Is Going On)." Adcock, Everett says, had also been in the running for the opening credits song with the tune, "Yall'd Think She'd Be Good 2 Me." That track was later repurposed as the first song viewers hear in the True Blood pilot episode.
He and Everett later recorded "Evil (Is Going On)" in New Orleans together for the show. "C.C. was very friendly to me, but I'm not going to say there wasn't just a little bit of resentment, understandably," Everett recalls of landing the theme song credit over Adcock. "He's a sweet guy."
Because of True Blood , Everett would find himself in rooms with people he dreamed of working with, including Questlove — something that didn't seem possible until the show gave "Bad Things" a pop culture boost. He's now working on all different kinds of music these days, his latest being a jazz album. But he considers it almost "contractual" to perform "Bad Things" from time to time.
"I went through that season where it's like, 'Oh God, I'm a one-hit wonder.' But then I realized that it was a pretty chicken s--- attitude to have," he says, "because it's like, this gave you a seat at the table. Be a good guest."
A version of this story appears in the February issue of Entertainment Weekly , on newsstands now and available to order here . Don't forget to subscribe for more exclusive interviews and photos, only in EW.

Jace Everett is an American singer/songwriter/producer based in Nashville, TN. Best known as the writer/artist behind “Bad Things” (the theme song for HBO’s True Blood), Everett is a prolific artist with dozens of TV and film syncs, albums, EP’s and singles.
Jace was signed to Sony Nashville in 2004 and released an eponymous album on the label. Although the album didn’t chart in the mainstream country market, it did include the song “Bad Things”. After enjoying his first #1 radio hit as a writer (Josh Turner’s “Your Man”) and securing the theme placement on True Blood, Everett has been writing, recording and releasing an eclectic body of work in country, rock, and even ambient music. His most recent releases find Everett continuing to explore different styles of writing and production. May 2022 saw the release of Way Down Here, a 5 song EP of songs inspired by his heroes Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Nick Cave. In October of 2022, Everett released his second collaboration with Norwegian guitar wizard Amund Maarud. The 6 song EP entitled RAUS is filled with dark, high energy rock inspired by the likes of Iggy Pop and David Bowie.
Performing solo, Jace brings as much humor to the stage as music. His self effacing stage banter undersells the depth and breadth of a world class writer who seems to be having a genuine laugh at himself for the preposterousness of it all. With just a handful of dates in the UK this year before a full band tour in Europe, this is a rare chance to see an American talent that’s genuinely unique and beyond categorization.
