Joey Bada$$ just announced his new album 2000 drops on June 17, five years after his last full-length project and 10 years to the day after his classic debut mixtape 1999 .

The Badmon took to social media to inform his fans the long wait for a new project is over . “Back on the set like I never left… #2000 #newalbum #june17th,” Joey Bada$$ wrote. He also shared an accompanying visualizer featuring what could be a snippet of a new song from the project.

“1999-2000” Tour

Not only that, but Joey Bada$$ also announced he’s celebrating the new album and the 10th anniversary of 1999 with a summer tour. The 1999-2000 Tour kicks off in Boston on Jul. 1, with a finale in Los Angeles on Jul. 28, joined by opener Capella Grey. The trek also includes a hometown NYC show on Jul. 7 at Terminal 5.

Joey Bada$$ dropped the “ Head High ,” single in March and “dubbed it one of my favorite songs that I’ve ever recorded.” He said it felt “weird” to be asked about coming back after a hiatus “because I never actually stepped away from it. That’s just kind of what it looks like out in the open because it’s been so long since I’ve actually put music out.”

The rapper turned actor has been flexing his acting chops in roles including 50 Cent’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan , as the character Unique.

“But the whole time, I can’t remember a month that’s gone by where I wasn’t in the studio working on music,” Joey Bada$$ told XXL earlier this month. “January was probably the first month in five years where I did not record any music.”

Joey Bada$$, born Jo Vaughn Virginie Scott on January 20th 1995 is an American hip hop recording artist from New York in America.

Joey's musical career started off like many stars nowadays, on YouTube. He uploaded a video of himself free styling. This subsequently went on to the video being re-posted on to American hip hop site World Star Hip Hop which then led Joey to be noticed in the hip hop world.

From this, Joey went on to become the co-founder of the hip-hop collective Pro Era, with whom he released three mix tapes. Then in 2012 Joey released his debut solo mix tape, named, "1999". The release was highly successful and following this, a video for one of the songs on the mix tape, "Waves" was released in June that year. Impressively, the mixtape immediately increased the New York born's popularity in the underground hip hop scene and led him to embark on his own tour.

Additionally, Joey went on to release a track with hip hop artist Ab-Soul titled "Enter the Void" along with "Waves". These songs were his first official releases to retail.

In 2013 Joey later appeared alongside his Pro Era crew in the opening act on highly regarded legends, Wiz Khalifa and ASAP Rocky's 2013 summer "Under The Influence Tour."

Live reviews

Joey Bada$$ is leading a movement that comes with a certain aesthetic and has garnered a strong following within a matter of two years. His shows, before the brink of his major success that is surely on its way, are intimate and oddly organic. They are organic considering his inspiration from hip-hop's past, specifically the 90s era. In 2012 he released his debut mixtape, 1999 and Summer Knights in 2013, which were both were well received by hip-hop enthusiasts alike. Joey will soon be releasong his debut studio album, 'B4.DA.$$' later in 2014.

In 2013, Atlanta held it’s 4th Annual One Music Festival at the Old Fourth Ward Park to an ecstatic crowd out to enjoy the festivities. Upon entering the gates, they were pre-occupied with food trucks and vendors on the open terrain. Amongst the performances of a stellar lineup including Snoop Dogg as the headliner, Erykah Badu, CeeLo Green and Goodie Mob, was Pro Era’s Joey Bada$$. Joey had accumulated a large audience around the time he was scheduled to perform earlier in the day. Joey performed a number of songs from his 1999 and SummerKnights mixtapes including, “Waves,” “World Domination,” “Sweet Dreams,” and “95 Til Infinity.” Long time DJ and producer DJ Statik Selektah aided Joey on the turntables and Pro Era member Kirk Knight accompanied him on stage. The 90’s essence was prevalent in their style and sound. For those unfamiliar with the Pro Era movement, their nostalgic sound mirrors the epitome of what hip hop sounded like in the “Golden Age” and perhaps that’s what is so captivating about Pro Era. That old feeling is what keeps his fans satisfied and for some reason, it’s being heard with a new refreshing ear.

Spitting like a veteran in the music industry, Joey gave the crowd his all through his advanced lyrical ability and energetic stage presence. He brought New York to the South and the way that the crowd vibed with him was a clear indication that he was well welcomed.

Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott better known by his stage name Joey Badass has been causing huge waves on the hip hop scene since he first rose to prominence in 2010 at the age of 16. Although many may say that his junior age means he may lack experience and knowledge, he more than makes up for it in youthful enthusiasm.

He performs his live show with such a great energy that clearly communicates to the crowds that he could not be more happy with the situation he is in, he reminds them that he is also grateful between tracks. He demonstrates a lot of skill as a freestyler during 'Greenbax' and 'Save The Children' and this almost acts as justification as to why Joey finds himself stood on large stages to masses of fans at the age of 20 but it is clearly down to his staggering talent.

It is unusual for a new artist to be able to hold a crowd's attention for a 20 strong setlist, yet he does it with ease keeping them jumping to an all cannons blazing rendition of 'Freestyle'.

I saw Joey Bada$$ in Mesa AZ on July 18th for his All Amerikkkan Badass tour and it was absolutely amazing, I got the vip so I had early entry to the venue and I got an amazing spot, he was very energetic and was able to hype the crowd up immensely, the DJ also did an amazing job as well, hopping on his booth and dancing, to being part hype man as well. He had us do cell phone lights for his song Devastated which was very cool to see everyone participate, and he ranged music from all the way to his mixtape 1999 to his newest album, All Amerikkkan Badass. He even brought another member of pro era up on stage, it was quite fun and full of energy and lots of amazing Bass from the speakers, would absolutely go again 10/10

Well i can tell ya this concert was full of stars. A whole heep of rap artist and djs occupied the stage and sometimes all at once. It was my second rap concert and joey blew the crowd away. After surviving 8 or so rappers, joey come on with a bang. Asap rocky and the pro era crew also made an apperance which was AWESOME. It was a little uneasy to sit through some of the earlier rappers with high anticipation for joey, but it was well worth the wait. Everyone who is a joey bada$$ fan must go see him live. Hes an amazing performer and his music makes you feel like a booble head lol.

Great set! Lots of energy and a positive forward thinking message from Joey. From the old 'Survival Tactics' with Steez to Joey's new music such as the unreleased track he performed. The gig had everything you could want. The day 1 fans will have enjoyed it more as many sons were dedicated to them and so I felt right at home. Big shoutouts to Sampa the Great who was a solid and fast-flowing killer! One of my favourite emcees and definitely built the atmosphere up nicely. Anyone who hasn't seen the Badman live, do.

Awesome show. All the guys in Beast Coast having a lot of fun. Joey Headlined with Flatbush before him, and Under achievers and others opening the show. Joey came out for verses on Beast Coast tracks that were played throughout the show, before coming out as the headliner which was cool. They had these guys hooked up to harnesses flying around the stage. Great time. Mosh Pits, Joey crowd surfing. Couldnt ask for a better show. Pro Era, Joey Badmon and all Beast Coast are always puttin on!

Joey BADASS album

Big news for fans of Joey BADA$$ . This week, the Brooklyn talent took to social media to announce the forthcoming release of his new album 2000 , which — judging from the title — will act as the sequel to BADA$$ ‘ classic mixtape 1999 . Added to the news is a trailer that further confirms the connection with shots of kids skateboarding in a park before the camera focuses on BADA$$ — all while a Statik Selektah-produced track begins playing in the background.

Released back in 2012, 1999 was BADA$$ ‘ debut mixtape that contained 15 songs and appearances from members of the rapper ‘s Pro Era collective, along with additional contributions from MF DOOM, Knxwledge, J Dilla, Lord Finesse, and more. Along with its lead single “Waves,” 1999 solidified BADA$$ ‘ position as one of the next artists to lead the hip hop movement, which continued with the albums B4.DA.$$ and All-Amerikkkan Badass in 2015 and 2017, respectively. He’s also since stepping into the acting game, delivering top tier performances in the series “Mr. Robot” and the Oscar-winning short film Two Distant Strangers .

Check out the official trailer for 2000 below, which officially arrives June 17. In related news, Joey BADA$$ will also be going on tour in support of the album — you can take a look at the dates for that as well.

Joey Bada$$ is set to make his full-fledged return to the music scene, as the rapper has announced that his next album will be titled 2000 and will be released on June 17. This date is significant, as 2000 , the Brooklynite’s first album release in more than five years, also marks the 10-year anniversary of the release of his breakout mixtape, 1999 .

In a post on his social media account, Joey revealed the album title and release date while sharing an accompanying trailer for the project, which includes a snippet of a previously unheard song from the rapper. “Back on the set like I never left… #2000 #newalbum #june17th,” he wrote.

While details surrounding what listeners can expect on 2000 are still being revealed, Joey has dropped bits of information regarding the album, such as a tentative production lineup that includes 1999 collaborator Statik Selektah, Mike Will Made-It, Cardo, and Kirk Knight.

Joey also previously teased a collaboration with DJ Premier, a song that’s particularly anticipated by fans. In conjunction with news of the impending arrival of 2000 , the rapper also revealed that he was set to hit the road for an upcoming tour that kicks off this summer with an opening show on July 1 in Boston and runs through July 28, with a final show in Los Angeles.

In March, Joey released the latest single, “Head High,” which he stated was one of his favorite songs he’d ever recorded and was inspired in part by late rap star Nipsey Hussle.

Joey Bada$$ has been building his star power via his acting chops over the past few years, scoring roles in the television show Mr. Robot  as well as 50 Cent’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan , in which he plays blood-thirsty drug kingpin Unique. The rapper recently appeared on Hot 97 for a freestyle with Funk Flex, which you can check below to get a sample of what’s to come on June 17.

Joey Badass accuses Delta Air Lines of breaking his recording equipment

Joey Badass is in the midst of a major tour, but if you let him tell it, Delta Airlines is doing its best to throw him off.

On Tuesday, the rapper and actor hopped off the plane in Portland, Ore., to discover his equipment had apparently been damaged midflight. While sharing footage of the studio rig on his Instagram story, he went off on Delta Air Lines, alleging that the external case had been removed and several of the knobs were broken.

“Yo Delta, what the f— is going on?” he asked . “You guys just messed up my whole studio rig, bro. First of all this s— had a whole case on it... y’all broke my f— knobs, do you know how much this cost? Y’all going to have to reimburse all of that.”

Joey Badass performs at Shepherds Bush Empire on Nov. 25, 2014, in London.

“This is the second time y’all f— up one of my luggage pieces in the past month,” he continued. “Y’all broke my RIMOWA bag, still didn’t pay up on that. I’m a diamond medallion member, what is good with y’all?”

Joey, whose given name is Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, said there is $12,000 in damages.

“Delta teams will look into this described situation and reach out to the customer to address,” the airline told The Times in a statement.

In 2018, Joey had pledged his allegiance to Delta after accusing American Airlines of racial profiling. While putting his luggage into the reserved overhead compartment, he said a flight attendant told him he couldn’t put his bag there because it was for “first-class customers.”

“So I show her my ticket and the whole plane just laughs at her,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “American Air is the best airline for racial discrimination. This is why I’m #teamdelta.”

But on Tuesday, he seemed to sing a different tune as the luggage mishap happened in the midst of his cross-country tour, which is set to touch down at the Novo in Los Angeles on July 28. On Friday, he’ll drop his long-awaited album “2000” — which arrives five years after his last album, “All-AmeriKKKan Bada$$,” and is a sequel to his breakthrough 2012 mixtape “1999.”

The new album was previously set to be released June 17, but the day before, Joey said on Twitter that he had to delay the release indefinitely due to “sample clearance issues.”

“Man I got some terrible news,” he tweeted . “My album won’t be coming out tonight due to sample clearance issues. Right now, it’s unclear how long I’ll have to postpone it but my hope is no more than 2 weeks. I wanted to have a new date before I told you guys but it’s out of my control.”

Just a few hours later, Drake would announce his surprise blockbuster album “Honestly, Nevermind,” leading many to believe Joey actually pushed his release back to avoid competing with one of the biggest names in music.

“Y’all thinking I pushed my album back because [of] Drake is comedy,” Joey tweeted. “Can’t say I ain’t happy tho hahaha.”

Joey’s acting career is in full swing too, including stints on “Mr. Robot,” “Grown-ish” and “Wu-Tang: An American Saga.” He is set to reprise his role as Unique in “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” when Season 2 premieres on Aug. 14.

LeBron James' Strong Statement After Lakers vs. Nuggets Game 1

The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Denver Nuggets in Game 1

  • Author: Joey Linn

In This Story:

The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Denver Nuggets in Game 1, and while they played well in the first half, the Lakers were seriously overmatched in the second half. Speaking with reporters after the game, Lakers star LeBron James got honest about what his team needs to do in order to not only win this series, but be the championship team they aspire to be.

"I've never played on a championship team that didn't pay attention to detail," James said. "There's no if, ands, or buts about it. You have to."

Knowing what it takes to win it all, James has four NBA championships, and is in pursuit of another one this year. The Lakers' path to a title is incredibly difficult, and begins with the defending champion Nuggets, but this is a group that has their sights set on that goal.

Any team with LeBron James is expected to compete for a title. The Lakers last won it all in 2020, and they have had varying levels of postseason success since then, but have not reached the Finals again since that season. A path back to the Finals feels unlikely for this Lakers team, but if they are able to pay attention to detail in the way James is speaking about, they will give themselves the best chance possible.

Fantasy baseball prospect watch: Joey Loperfido, Colson Montgomery, and more

Fantasy baseball prospect watch: Joey Loperfido, Colson Montgomery, and more

We heard the names in spring training. We’ve seen the buzz around the blue-chip prospects who have been called up. Sometimes they work well early — Toronto ’s Yariel Rodriguez has struck out 13 in 7 2/3 IP and is still only on 21% of rosters in Yahoo leagues — and other times they don’t — Jack Leiter gave up seven runs over 3.2 IP in his debut and was sent back down to AAA the following day.

Even the most hyped prospects can join the big club and be an early fugazi for a fantasy baseball manager. Keith Law’s top prospect Jackson Holliday is 1-for-30 so far in Baltimore and his roster percentage is dropping (he’s down to 78% in Yahoo) as fantasy managers don’t feel like waiting around to see him make the necessary adjustments.

So what do we do? Sally forth. Here’s a quick update on five prospects who obviously have the talent — and may soon get the opportunity.

Note: I’m using Yahoo for roster percentages. There are going to be a few pretty significant differences if you play on CBS/ESPN (for instance, Rodriguez is on 42% of CBS rosters), but Yahoo, I’ve found, is a solid middle ground for a general look at rosterships.

Marcelo Mayer , SS, Boston Red Sox

Trevor Story is out for the year after undergoing shoulder surgery and the fill-ins up the middle in Beantown have left a lot to be desired. Alex Cora is using a mix of David Hamilton , the newly locked-up Ceddanne Rafaela , and Enmanuel Valdez , all of whom are hitting below the Mendoza line.

Mayer (4% rostered), who was the No. 4 pick in 2021 and our No. 8 rated prospect overall, has gotten off to a good start, hitting .314 in AA with the Portland Sea Dogs. He also has speed and has yet to make an error this season in the minors. Mayer has missed significant time due to injury the last two years, but he’s healthy now and making the most of it. The fact that Vaughn Grissom is playing 2B during his rehab assignment further suggests that the Red Sox see Mayer as the SS of the future, and the future could come sooner than originally expected.

Joey Loperfido , 1B/OF, Houston Astros

The Astros have been one of the more disappointing teams this season and find themselves in the AL West basement, below even the Oakland A’s! José Abreu certainly hasn’t helped matters, hitting just .068 with 0 HRs and 1 RBI in 18 games — looking nothing like the 2020 AL MVP (but very much like his 2023 version ).

Meanwhile, Joey Loperfido (12% rostered on Yahoo) may be the best power hitter in all of minor league baseball. He’s near the top of MiLB with 10 HRs, 24 RBIs, 53 Total Bases, and an 1.047 OPS in 19 games for the AAA Sugar Land Space Cowboys. He was also the Astros’ 2023 Minor League Player of the Year with 55 extra-base hits in 124 games. On top of all that, he’s versatile — Loperfido has played all three outfield positions, fist base, second base, and even five games at third. If the Astros’ slow start continues, I can see them making the call for some extra pop.

Colson Montgomery , SS,  Chicago White Sox

The White Sox are 3-18 through 21 games and somehow have already sunk to a -71 run differential; they are on a path to becoming one of the worst offenses in recent memory. Eloy Jiménez missed most of April with an injury, and with Luis Robert and Yoan Moncada on the shelf for an extended amount of time, why wait to look toward the future?

No. 42 overall prospect Colson Montgomery (5% rostered on Yahoo) represents one of the brightest lights for that future, and there’s no reason to keep him on the farm. He started slow for the AAA Charlotte Knights, but has two bombs in the last 10 days. Plus three steals and three doubles on the season, after putting up a .455 OBP last year.

Montgomery can help an offense that’s dead last in the majors — one that’s scoring only 2.14 runs/game, a full run worse than every team not looking to relocate. But will the White Sox bring him up any time soon? In the throes of a lost season, my hunch is yes.

Here’s a nice segue…

Colson Montgomery is a top-10 prospect in baseball. Christian Scott has struck him out swinging both times he’s faced him tonight. pic.twitter.com/yoS9P2oa5B — Syracuse Mets (@SyracuseMets) April 16, 2024

Christian Scott, SP, New York Mets

Kodai Senga has been out all season with a shoulder injury, and the New York Mets have been piecing it together with pitchers like Sean Manaea , Jose Quintana , and Adrian Houser . Those three have combined for only one quality start in 12 outings, while Christian Scott (6% rostered) is zooming up prospect lists while at AAA Syracuse. Scott has a ridiculous 26 strikeouts in 14.1 IP, allowing only 13 baserunners in that span for a 0.91 WHIP. His control has been good, too, walking only 3 batters so far this season.

James Wood , OF, Washington Nationals

James Wood (16% rostered) hit .364 with four homers in 44 at-bats this spring with the Washington Nationals, posting a 1.214 OPS before getting sent down to AAA Rochester. The No. 19  overall prospect — the centerpiece of the Juan Soto trade — has continued to mash with the Red Wings, hitting .306 while slugging over .470 and scoring 16 runs in 18 games. He only has two home runs (he had 26 last year) but has hit six doubles.

The advanced metrics show he’s getting good wood as well (see what I did there?) with an average exit velocity around 96 m.p.h. and a 59% Hard-Hit rate that’s near the top of MiLB. The downside? Wood has four multiple strikeout games in his last seven. Still, the Nationals are the fifth-youngest team in the majors with an average age just over 27, so you know they don’t mind the youth movement, with C.J. Abrams (23) and Luis Garcia (23) playing significant roles. The Nats are below .500 with no real aspirations of contending so it may not be long before the 21 year-old joins the big show to help an offense currently sitting at 25th in runs scored.

Stats of Significance

There are currently six players at the AAA level with double-digit steals: Cade Marlowe (14), Ryan Bliss (12), Greg Jones (12), Brewer Hicklen (11), Brandon Lockridge (11) and Caleb Durbin (10).

Of those six players, Hicklen, a Brewers prospect, has the highest OPS at .976 — with three HRs, 14 walks, and seven doubles.

I’m not sure where to file Andrés Chaparro , but he has six home runs, a .355 OBP, and two seasons of 20-plus homers under his belt. He’s kind of blocked at first and third for Arizona, but… who knows. He might be interesting to keep an eye on in case something happens.

Matt Shaw shouldn’t be a secret to dynasty players or Cubs fans, but he’s living up to the standards he set last year (.357 avg., 8 HR, 15 SB in 38 games across three levels) with three homers and five steals this season, along with a .295 average.

Blue Jays minor leaguer Addison Barger had a breakout season in 2022 followed by an injury-marred step back in 2023 (elbow). He currently has 10 doubles, three homers, and a .435 OBP in AAA.

A lot of the attention on pitchers focuses on Paul Skenes and Christian Scott, but Orioles prospect Cade Povich has struck out 33 in 21 1/3, while allowing just two runs, for a 0.83 ERA and 0.74 WHIP.

Detroit ’s Brant Hurter has struck out 23 batters in 16 innings while still carrying a 1.7 GO/AO rate.

Giants prospect Mason Black has a 1.53 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 20 Ks over 18 2/3 IP.

If you want to keep an eye on Carson Palmquist , the Rockies prospect has 25 Ks in 16 IP and has yet to allow a run this season in AA… but his ultimate destination is Colorado, so… figure that one out. Keith Law (and I’m paraphrasing) has said he doesn’t take the final stop under too much consideration because trades happen all the time, but it doesn’t look like the Rockies are going to be giving up prospects in deals anytime soon.
